The whole idea of the family weekend getaway was a plan to get Bangtan out of concert mode and have the children bond with them after three months apart. Jungkook and Mi-Hi had just welcomed their daughter Jina to their small family so it made perfect sense for all of BTS to take a month off to help in whatever they could with the new baby.
Namjoon suggested that, since it was summer and it was predicted to be a really hot one, they could rent a house in the countryside, with a pool for the older kids, so they were away from everything, no distractions, for the entirety of their holidays. It really didn’t take much convincing, since Jin was dying for his kids to have something to do which wasn’t following him around all the time asking for snacks. Yura had them well trained but, still, they were sneaky enough to try their father instead, to see if he caved.
It took a bit longer to plan than they would have liked, having to plan for baby, toddler and adult food, sleeping arrangements (since they had two babies that couldn’t sleep in actual beds) and then there was the issue of keeping nine children entertained and happy for two whole weeks. Taehyung and Hobi were in charge of “fun stuff” as Yoongi dubbed.
“Don’t you worry Hyung, each little demon has their preferred toy and with the swimming pool there, they won’t need that much entertaining,” boasted Taehyung, horribly confident and very naive at the same time.

“I’m just saying, seven hyper kids and two babies are enough of a handful,” interrupted Yoongi, a knowing smirk on his face, “you may want to bring something other than Uno.”
Jimin chuckled under his breath and whispered to himself, “And he is the one who has two children to keep in check. He’s gonna drive Iseul up the wall,” his facepalm caught Jungkook’s attention, who was busy feeding his little girl. His attention went automatically back to the baby, giving Jimin the opportunity to elbow Namjoon in the ribs and signal the rest of his hyungs to look at the maknae.
To them, Jungkook had always been their little brother, the fun uncle who loved spending time with and caring for their children, but who wasn’t quite ready yet to be a father himself. Seeing him now, looking at his daughter like the whole universe had shifted and she was now the centre of his, was incredible to his brothers. The newborn was the calmest out of the lot; she had inherited her mom and dad’s quiet disposition and she was content with blinking her big black eyes up at her dad, holding his thumb with her tiny fist and generally just look at her uncles doing silly things in front of her little face.
To say that the whole of Bangtan had a soft spot for the two newest members of the family would be an understatement; Min Ara had them all wrapped around her little finger, and they were all just happy to drool and spend the days doing whatever the babies wanted, much to the moms amusement.
Mi-Hi and Jungkook were a bit reluctant to join the rest on a trip so soon after the baby was born, but soon they saw how being in a house instead of a camping site, close to their friends, was advantageous for them in the long run. “We can just take the room in the ground floor so our little angel doesn’t wake up the whole house with her night-time feeding alarm,” joked Mi-Hi, high-fiving Jungkook over Jimin’s head.
The day they were set to arrive at the rented house, they actually took advantage of the early hour so the younger children remained asleep for the car trip and none of them got sick or annoyed. In Tae and Iseul’s car, however, they had opted to keep the children entertained with some movies so that they would be tired and would easily nap while the parents unpacked. Taehyung smirked at the thought of certain hyungs trying to rein in their kids while juggling camp chairs and several carry-on bags. That was going to be an enjoyable sight to behold. Nabi was clutching her Mulan doll while she tried to sing the lyrics to her favourite Tangled song.
“I WILL READ A BOOK… MAYBE TWO OR THREE… NANANANANA GALERY!” She animatedly sang, not disturbing her little brother who was intently watching Big Hero Six on his tablet and didn’t make a single noise.
In the car just in front, Jungkook took a glimpse in the rearview mirror and saw how Mi-Hi smiled sweetly at their daughter, who was most likely asleep in her carseat (which seemed to swallow her little body). Shifting a bit, he saw how the baby wrapped her hand around her mom’s finger With a radiant smile, he threw a peace sign through the window at Namjoon, who smiled at him while Yura drove and their son snored away in the back seat with his face plastered to the window. It was still funny to him how after so many years Namjoon still wasn’t comfortable behind the wheel when his Moon-Jae was in the car. Usually he would just drive himself to places but when it was one of those days Moon-Jae went to daycare, he highly preferred to request a driver. That way he could ride in the back with his little boy and give him his undivided attention while Moon-Jae told him in his cute half-speech everything he had done.
A couple of kilometres behind, Haneul was laughing as she recorded how Hobi reduced the car’s speed, yet again, when he felt a strange car was getting too close for comfort. Hyuk-Jae was happily babbling to himself while he tried to read the letters in a picture book his uncle Joon had given him, his little voice making Haneul smile and Hobi grip the wheel with even more strength.
“You are the safest driver, love. You can pick up the speed or all of Hyukie’s cousins will be sleeping when we get there and he’ll be bored,” she jokingly told her husband.
He looked at her sideways and returned his eyes to the road at lightning speed.
“I don’t trust other drivers, not while you two are in the car,” he told her, nodding emphatically afterwards, with his characteristic pouting lips.
“You have no problem driving the guys places,” Haneul teased back, giggling when he pretended to look guilty.
“They’re okay, you two I’m not willing to risk,” he ascertained. “Don’t tell the guys, though,” he added as an after-thought, not realising how his wife’s phone was recording him the whole time.
“Too late, I got everything on video!” She told him, loosing it when he full on looked at her with eyes big as saucers and made to take the phone.
She skilfully avoided him and continued to tease him about his speed. If he didn’t pick up the pace, she would show the video to everyone.
“I will be on babysitting duty for two weeks, don’t do that!” He whined.
Hearing how their son had stopped talking, Haneul turned on her seat and saw him calmly reading his book with a focused frown on his cute face, so much like his father’s when he was his age.
“Hyukie, should we be good to daddy? Tell him if he catches up with the other uncles’ cars we won’t show them the video?” She asked him, her hand coming to rest on the little boy’s knee.
“That’s extortion,” her husband muttered, but otherwise remained silent to see what Hyuk-Jae would answer.
“Yes, mommy,” said the little boy, not really lifting his eyes from the colourful page.
His parents chuckled and Hoseok, oh so carefully, picked up some speed until he could see Jimin’s car.
Inside the car, Kae was napping with the background noise that was her son asking Jimin endless question or them starting to sing when the boy recognised a song on his dad’s playlist.
“Can Sangwoonie and I go play daddy?” He asked, watching the trees go by.
“If we see it’s safe, then you two can play,” Jimin answered, smiling at the short while his son could go without mentioning his best friend.
“What’s safe, daddy?”
“It’s when you can play and don’t have to come look for us when Sangwoonie does something scary or dangerous, baby.”
“Oh! Okay! And Nabi noona can play too? Yoojin noona too?”
“If you ask them to play with you, sure! Yoosun hyung too!”
“I like Yoo hyungie, he knows when I have to call mommy…” Chimae got distracted by a bird that was flying up in the sky alongside the car, not caring how his dad was laughing at his last sentence. Tae’s son had all his cousins so attuned to his mischievous ways that the ones who were old enough always managed to call an adult when the boy got in trouble. His little Chimae usually was right there with him, but it looked like he felt safe when Yoosun was there to watch over them. At seven years old, Bangtan and Co. usually relied on Jin’s children to keep an eye on the dynamic duo.
Speaking of the Kim kids, Jin was seriously questioning who thought this trip was a good idea. He only knew he was going to drench Namjoon if he got his hands on water balloons. Or a hose. Or a bucket.
“Yoosun, Yoojin, I promise the two of you, if I so much hear a chirp we’re going back home, and I don’t care if you want to see your cousins” chastised Yura.
“Mommy, but he said he left my bunny at home!” Screamed Yoojin, pointing at her brother accusingly, while he was crying because his sister was mad at him.
“I said I was sorry! I forgot!” The poor boy’s nose was running and he rubbed his eyes to dry his tears.
“Yoojin, your bunny is in daddy’s suitcase. Yoosun, we know you didn’t do it on purpose, stop crying, son.” Jin’s voice didn’t leave room for argument and the children were calm for a while.
Yura was beginning to think that they might just make it to the house without any more drama when Yoosun cried out in pain.
“YOOJIN!” Spoke both Jin and Yura at the same time when Yoosun said his sister had pinched his leg.
Yoongi was the first of the seven to arrive at their destination, since his daughter had only woken up when she was hungry and she didn’t even have time to fuss. Hyejin was right there with her bottle and Yoongi only had to stop on a gas station to burp the baby and change her diaper; right after, she was back asleep and they were on the road.
While Hyejin got their bags, Yoongi unbuckled the car seat and took his baby inside the house, to immediately change her clothes from the car to a clean onesie and open the windows to cool the place. Ara kicked her little feet when her dad tried to put her feet inside the little onesie’s paws, laughing at the faces he was making down at her. Her giggles continued even when her mom went inside the bedroom and gave Yoongi a back hug, looking at her baby over his shoulder.
“Hello, Ara! How are you today, sweetie? You like how daddy is cooling you down, baby? Are you cool now?” Asked Hyejin, cooing down and leaving both her and Yoongi smiling like fools when the baby laughed and waved her arms up and down. After waiting so long, they were finally a family, just looking down at Ara, at their happy and healthy baby girl, it was all worth it.
After a while, they heard noise coming from the field across from the house and went out, Yoongi with little Ara secured to his chest in her ring sling.
Chimae and Sangwoo were running around after so long without seeing each other, three hours, while Moon-Jae tried to keep up with them and Nabi ran after him watching out for him. The other children were running around while the adults unloaded the cars. Not seeing Jin and Yura anywhere, Yoongi asked the maknae if he’d seen them somewhere since their son and daughter, along with Hyuk-Jae, were playing with Yeontan sitting in the grass.
A sleeping Jina on his shoulder, seeming even smaller enveloped in her dad’s big hug, Jungkook signalled to a corner to the left or the house, where a few trees covered some picnic tables.
Yura and Jin were sitting one across from the other, their eyes looking forward but unseeing, a couple of pineapple juice cartons sitting between them.
Yoongi and Hoseok approached them, worried at their tired faces mere minutes into their two-week getaway.
“You’re drinking that juice like you wished it was cheap wine from the convenience store,” said Yoongi, patting Jin on the shoulder and sitting softly next to him. As soon as he was sitting comfortably, Jin turned and started caressing Ara’s soft hair. Yoongi pulled down the sling so that Jin could fully touch his daughter head.
“I miss the days mine were like that,” he whispered, to which his wife nodded. “Now I have a little demon and an angel. Now, which is which depends on the day…”
“So who was it today, Sunie or Jinie?” Asked Hobi, throwing an arm over Yura’s shoulder and squeezing her to try and cheer her up.
“Jinie. She thought Sunie had forgotten her rabbit plushie at home, started shouting at him and he got sad and started sobbing,” Jin told them, dropping his head on his arms.
“Poor Yoosunie,” whispered Yoongi, soothing Ara when she started to fuss after Jin removed his hands.
“Yeah, right,” replied Yura, “he’s started retaliating. Yesterday he pulled her pigtails because she tripped him… Poor Yoosun, sometimes, not always.”
They laughed while looking at the children and the rest of the parents trying to get them to calm down. Namjoon was trying to balance both Chimae and Sangwoo on his arms while Moon-Jae was crying on A-Young’s arms because he thought his cousins were hurting his dad.
“This is chaos,” said Hoseok, almost getting up when he saw Hyuk-Jae trip, only to sit down when the boy just got up and started running again.
“These are gonna be two VERY long weeks,” groaned Jin.
