The grass felt divine under your skin as your palms smoothly caressed your surroundings. You closed your eyes, savouring the quiet bliss of the moment. As you lay in the woods in a spot where no tree could hide the beaming sun, all that could be heard was the chirps of a distant bird and the wind quietly humming a lullaby through the leaves and branches. This melody seemed to transport you elsewhere, away from all that ever had you worried or frightened. Before you could notice, your already sealed eyelids became heavier, as did the rest of your body, and you slipped into a peaceful meditative state, one you hadn’t experienced in a while, as elves did not require much rest.
A faint sound later brought you back to consciousness. While briefly lifting your neck off the ground, you peeked at the trees and flowery bushes a few feet away before weightlessly letting your head fall back where it had been resting and you slowly felt yourself drifting away once more.
Just as you were about to reach unconsciousness, you were brought back to reality when something nudged your right shoulder. You groaned faintly while stirring your arms at your side. A smile crept its way onto your lips as you breathed in the summer air blended with the scent of the humid forest encircling you. As you then released the sweet scent you had inhaled, you opened your eyes at last. Instantly, you beamed even wider than you had been a few seconds prior as your sight fixated itself on a familiar white haired ellon looking down at you, his feet just above your head.
“Hi there.” Legolas slightly chuckled. “Today seems to be a very productive day on your part,” he said sarcastically, unable to suppress the grin now gracing his lips while his eyes traveled passed your feet.
Raising yourself on your elbows, you followed his gaze to find the braided baskets you had brought with you to gather berries growing in the nearby bushes. However, they had been long forgotten when you noticed the bright sun gleaming through trees’ foliage and tenderly brushing your skin. Indeed, you had then decided to embrace the beauty of nature by lying down and absorbing the sunlight.
You chuckled at the view of the empty baskets, realizing how carried away you had gotten. You swiftly stood up and faced your long-time friend. Your giggles ceased as you locked eyes with him. Immediately, a luminous smile, mirroring your own, illuminated his features. You lifted your right arm to grab his shoulder and he did the same to you. Happiness filled your being and you tried to ignore the way your heart fluttered at his touch as you knew this was solely a friendly way for him to greet you after having not seen each other in a small while.
It was true that since his 100th birthday, when he reached adulthood 14 years ago, it had been difficult for you two to spend time together. Indeed, Thranduil, your king and his father, had since given him more responsibilities and kept him away to teach him the ways of ruling over Mirkwood. Witnessing the friend you held so close to your heart learn and grow before your eyes filled you with pride, but sadness as well. You could feel that the duties a young prince such as him possessed weighted on him and, consequently, the joyful innocence that had danced in his eyes since you both were children had diminished. However, it had never left him, you could still perceive that light radiating from him.
His hand gave your shoulder a light squeeze before he finally released it and you let go as well.
“Well, it is nice to see you as well Legolas,” you said teasingly. “How long has it been since we were last able to have a proper conversation?”
“Way too long.” He sighed while responding.
Turning your back to him, you walked away to gather the scattered baskets as a way to hide your bubbling excitement from the very ellon who triggered it. You crouched down to pick them up and asked, “So, what has your father been occupying you with as of late?”
“The usual mainly, although father as grown agitated these past weeks. He senses a darkness growling far away. He worries this very forest will eventually fall into the shadow. It surely won’t happen for a few thousand years but still, he considers it is best we find ways to prevent it from growing any stronger than it already is. In all honesty, it is quite frightening seeing my father this concerned, he never is really.”
At his words, you rotated your head to stare at his face you subtly inspected. His expression had a hint of sombreness, one that rarely inhabited his features. You briskly turned back and stood back up, baskets in hands.
“Well, we better enjoy the quiet and delightful days like today is while peace still reigns over Middle-earth,” you said cheerfully, attempting to lighten the atmosphere that had abruptly became grave. You then started to walk away in the opposite direction from Legolas. “Are you coming?” you asked.
You couldn’t conceal a smile as you faintly heard his light feet hurry to catch up to you.
“I was about to pick some berries. Do you want to join me?”, you said turning sideways to hand him a basket, offering him a grin.
“Gladly,” he replied, smiling kindly at you.
You took the lead walking a bit further until you noticed a few bushes full of blackberries that were glistening in the sun peeking from the tree leaves higher up.
“Those should be enough to fill at least one of our baskets,” you stated. You then both made your way over to the bushes, sat down and got to work quietly. Not a word was uttered for a few minutes, merely revelling in the simplicity of the moment, until you broke the silence after having been briefly lost in your thoughts.
“I’m sorry for earlier.” Legolas looked at you curiously and, avoiding eye contact, you resumed, “For having ignored your concerns. If it seemed like I didn’t sympathize with you and what clearly weighs heavily on your mind, I want you to know that it truthfully is the complete opposite. It worries me to see you this troubled and I merely changed the subject swiftly to ease both of our minds.” You paused and completed, “I care for you deeply. You know that right?” From where you stood, sitting sideways to his left, you looked up to meet his eyes which had already been examining you. Under his gaze, a soft pink tinted your cheeks while awaiting his response. Relief flooded your body when a slight smile broke on his lips which made you beam as well.
“It’s alright Y/N. I do not wish to dwell on those thoughts either. I’d much rather spend the day with you, discussing lightly and enjoying each other’s company without a care in the world. Just like we always used to. Your mere company brings me peace and I am grateful to you for that.” He briefly paused and continued, “Still, thank you for clearing the air.”
You smiled at each other and resumed harvesting the blackberries in front of you. Legolas then proceeded to teasingly shove his shoulder against yours. It made you lift your eyes up to meet his face once more which was now bearing a smirk.
Looking straight into your eyes, he smoothly said, “And I do care about you too.”
At that moment, the butterflies came back to life in your stomach. You didn’t know how to react as your cheeks and ears were burning. In the end, you settled on gently pushing back his shoulder just like he had done to you a few seconds ago. He chuckled as you did so.
Silence washed once more over the both of you and you carried on filling your baskets. It remained this way for a couple of minutes, simply appreciating the rare occurrence of being in each other’s company. You never had to say much. Being close to one another had always been sufficient to demonstrate your mutual appreciation for the other.
Taking you by surprise, Legolas shoved a blackberry in your mouth and stood up, hands on his hips and said, “I don’t know about you, but I believe we have earned a break.”
A mischievous smile then lit up his features and he grabbed your wrists. Trying to lift you off the ground, he stated, “Come on.”
As you pulled yourself back on the ground, you both started laughing aloud. His palms still encircling your wrists, you tried to free yourself without being able to stop your laughter and uttered, “Stop! I have promised my sister I would bring back home at least two full baskets. Not even one has been filled!”
“We will come back later and I assure you, we will collect way more than enough of those blackberries. Now come!” He chuckled as he tugged on your arms once again. You tried to resist by leaning back but he had grown way stronger than you with how much King Thranduil had him trained in the last few years. Consequently, he effortlessly was able to pull you to your feet.
You squealed as he now grabbed your right hand, dragging you behind him as you both still couldn’t stifle your chuckles. You initially stumbled but quickly were well able to keep up with his pace, always having been a fast runner.
After a short sprint, Legolas slowed down in front of a pond, the one you and him used to go swim in together when you were but children. He released your hand, took off his boots and began stepping in the water.
“Are you not scared to wet your princely hair now Leg?” you shouted teasingly. He swiftly turned around, flashing you an annoyed smile.
From where you stood, you admired him for a few seconds, his back facing you again. You felt your chest tightened as you took in his beauty. In recent years, his facial features had sharpened while maintaining their innocence and natural attractiveness. Your eyes trailed over his perfect hair braided at the top that cascaded down his lean but strong form. The sun made it gleam, some strands appearing almost silver.
Soon enough, guilt replaced the lightness in your heart. Indeed, it felt unfaithful to be admiring someone you were unsure saw you in the same light you viewed him in. What if the way he cared about you was merely in a friendly manner?
Legolas then proceeded to take off a layer of clothing, throwing it a few meters next to you, which left him in his thin tunic as he immersed in the water until only his head and shoulders were poking out. This seemed to pull you out of your trans. You quickly proceeded to remove your laced sandals and followed him in the shallow pond.
A.N. : Part II coming soon :)

So much time had already passed since you had left your dear home. Of course, you did miss it. In your dreams, you were reminded of what made it your own: the modest but charming garden your mother was constantly occupied embellishing, the cherry blossom trees you could observe from your room’s window gently swaying with the wind flying over the valley, the numerous birds that would wake you from a peaceful sleep when you had left your shutters open for the night…
These souvenirs, the little pieces of home still residing in your mind, brought you comfort and hope that, somehow, you would come back alive to your mother. It was a dangerous adventure and death was constantly near, but you had no regrets. Indeed, the quest you had embarked on served a crucial purpose in which the faith of Middle-earth was at stake. Consequently, being a part of the Fellowship was an honor and you had come to appreciate each one of the members accompanying you. They all were great company and having them by your side eased your growing homesickness. However, late at night, when the time had come to slip into slumber, the loneliness crawled back in with an enhanced heaviness.
This is the state you now found yourself in, lying on your back on a thin layer of ferns while staring at the stars as if they would help you find the rest your body so desperately craved, but couldn’t give in to. You clung onto the thin blanket barely protecting you from the coldness of the night as you once more forcefully shut your eyes, sighing in desperation.
Your sigh must have been louder than you had wished since a worried voice quickly followed, “Are you not able to sleep Y/N?” You swiftly turned your head to the side to find Legolas, the elf on the Fellowship who had quickly creeped its way into your heart, sitting a few feet away against a log surrounding the campfire that had been put out before nightfall. As always, he was up late, not needing to sleep much.
You were unsure whether it was merely your human nature’s reaction to the refined beauty of elves, but Legolas had fascinated you from the moment your eyes had met his gentle ones all these months ago. Since then, you had been able to slightly put aside the odd feelings that had invaded your being the first time you encountered him and a lovely friendship blossomed between the two of you. Legolas was never one to judge you and you truly felt like you could be your true self around him. He was an ellon of a few words, but an attentive listener. Therefore, you were allowed to share and relieve yourself of the fears you had regarding this journey thanks to him. Secretly, he held an extra special place in your heart.
It is the reason why, as he now searched your eyes questioning what was bothering, you felt your chest flutter and you averted your gaze to instead look back at the dark sky saying, “It is nothing new Legolas. I merely am frightened of what’s to come. You know how much I worry I will never come home to my mother.” You paused as you fought back the tears lingering in your eyes.
You heard Legolas shuffle closer and sit close to your head still resting on the ground. His comforting presence calmed you and you continued, “I am all she has left. I can’t help feeling guilty to have left her.” You sniffed slightly and closed your eyes.
For a few minutes, you both fell in a comfortable silence during which all that could be heard was the slow breaths you both let out, the faint snores of your companions sleeping nearby and the wind whistling through the countless trees surrounding you.
Your shut eyes softly opened back when a delicate hand started cautiously caressing your long hair dispersed around your head. His gentle motions started at the top of your head and ended where your neck began, just behind your right ear. His touch was so light you could have believed the breeze was the one stroking your skin and strands of your hair.
As you relished in the feeling of his rare touch on you, you tempted a look at Legolas. Still sitting, his eyes were now fixed right in front of him, mindlessly surveying the woods. From this angle, observing him from below, you could see how the moon reflected on the smooth skin covering his face making it glitter subtly. As usual, strands of his snow-colored hair were neatly braided back revealing his beautifully shaped ears and his perfectly sculpted jawline. While your eyes continued to trail over his face, you couldn’t help feeling as if you were staring at an otherworldly being which technically, he was. His mere existence felt magical. Indeed, Legolas was an elf, but deep down, you knew he felt like more than that to you.
Legolas must have sensed your gaze on him because, in their inspection, your eyes finally reached his again but now, they weren’t fixed on the trees before him anymore. You were now staring directly in his soft eyes looking down at you as they seemed to silently try to read you. Slowly, a kind smile illuminated his face. Color stained your cheeks as you detected a hint of mischievousness in his expression at having caught you admiring him.
His voice was then heard again, “I thought I was helping you falling asleep. Alas, I appear to rather be a distraction to you,” he stated as his playful smirk grew even more. You lowered your eyes briefly, embarrassment creeping in, but quickly lifted them again as you heard him giggle softly.
A newfound fondness towards him filled your body at the sound of his laugh and at the realization of the subtle closeness of the moment. This time, you maintained his gaze until your eyes fluttered close when his hand that had stilled itself on your temple began stroking your hair smoothly once more.
“You like it?” he nearly whispered. You smiled softly and nodded. You opened your eyes again to find Legolas gently reciprocating your grin.
“You haven’t slept much lately Y/N. You need to rest, mellon nin. A long journey still lies ahead of us,” he said. You hummed in response as an idea crossed your mind.
Without overanalyzing it, you asked, “Would you braid my hair like elves do?” Legolas’ hand halted in its movements and if you hadn’t been gazing intensely in his eyes, you would have missed an unknown expression that subtly flashed in them. However, he quickly regained his composure as his hand resumed its path in your hair.
Since he wasn’t responding, you grew unsure of your request. Thankfully, he relieved you of your uncertainty by muttering, “Would it help you fall asleep afterwards?”
“Yes, it would. Your touch is so soothing. It has already helped put to rest all that was haunting me earlier,” you replied quietly, a grateful glint in your eyes.
Legolas scanned your features as if hesitating, but then requested for you to sit up. He delicately covered your shoulders with your blanket and tugged your forearm lightly to guide you further back in front of his crossed legs. He began by brushing his elegant fingers through your hair, untangling the knots that had formed during the day. You closed your eyes once again enjoying how his gentle touch made you feel. Afterwards, he parted your hair and took two strands he pulled together and skillfully braided into a single braid in the back. Your closed eyelids became heavier at each second that passed.
Then, he leaned a bit closer to be able to braid the hair right above your ears, starting on your right side. A shiver ran through your body as you sensed his warm exhale on your ear and neck. Shortly after, your heart rate accelerated when you felt a tremble in his breath as if he was nervous. That is when you discerned the intimacy of the moment you were sharing. You could not recall having shared such a tender act with anyone other than your mother and the idea of you making the ellon behind you anxious filled you with feelings you were not familiar with.
Unexpectedly, now working on the last braid, near your left hear, Legolas softly said, “Regarding what you said to me earlier about your mother and you fearing to never come back to her, I of course can’t assure you that nothing will happen to you since the dangers ahead are unknown, but…” He paused completing your hairstyle and delicately turning you around so you could sit while facing him. For a few seconds, his gaze lovingly swept over your hair and your face halting at your eyes. Finally, he finished his sentence, intently diving his gaze into yours, “I promise that I will look after you and do everything in my power for you to return home unarmed.”
At his words, you felt a soothing warmth invading your stomach and you smiled at him, again admiring his majestic beauty. His right hand still resting on your shoulder now raised itself to lightly take a hold of your cheek. His index brushed your skin tenderly and you leaned into his hand as you grasped his wrist gently. As you stared at one another, a certain tension weighed on the both of you in which so much was left unsaid. Your breaths fanning on the other’s face, a sense of surprise seized you when you became aware of your proximity as you knew Legolas was never one for physical touch, but here you were.
“Bain,” he whispered. “You look beautiful,” he completed while releasing a breath. You stared startled, heart beating furiously. What shocked you even more is when Legolas leaned in to lay his lips on your cheek in a soft kiss and then did the same on your forehead. The skin his mouth had touched was tingling and your body craved for him to lean in again. However, you stayed put, even as the ellon’s eyes briefly drifted to your lips before looking back into yours, pink now tinting his cheeks.
That’s when he put his hands on both your shoulders and leaned back,“It is time for you to rest now, ok?” he said in a low voice which broke the spell you had both fell in while you shyly had explored the other with your sight and touch.
“Yes.” You nodded. “Thank you again Legolas. For everything.” You smiled and he lightly bowed his head, his gentle eyes never leaving yours.
He stood up, leaving you yearning for his touch again as the emplacements on your skin he had been in contact with grew cold. Nevertheless, your insides were burning as you stared at the elf regaining his earlier spot near the campfire. You lay back down on the ground, glancing once more at Legolas who was now observing you from afar, a sparkle in his eyes, before your eyelids who had grown heavy shut one final time and you were transported back home, in dreams, to the birds singing melodically outside your window.
A.N.: If you desire a second part, I will write one :).

The Echo of a Spark (part I) - Legolas x Reader
part I,
Legolas x Human Reader
Summary : Aragorn has newly been crowned King and, along with his companions and allies, decides to go on a tour where he will visit a few towns in Gondor and Arnor to present himself to the population. Your isolated village named RougeCap is among the chosen ones and, having been cut out from any other races your whole life, you are thrilled. Among these guests is Legolas who catches your eye rapidly.
Warnings : none
Words : 933
Sorry for any mistakes, English isn’t my first language.
As the sun was setting over the hills surrounding RougeCap, the small village in Arnor you had been born in and remained in your whole life, you couldn’t help but be amazed by the bright orange colours painting the horizon that slowly were fading to let the graceful darkness set in. Yet, this was far from being the first time you had admired the sunset.
Indeed, from a young age, your parents had often taken you to the roof of your home to admire this spectacle. These formerly shared moments of complicity were now spent on your own since both your parents had been killed in an orcs attack about ten years ago while they were hunting in the nearby woods. Since then, the sky has been a way for you to commemorate them and how it felt to have them close. In addition, the sky was the only thing that allowed you to dream beyond the reality of your little town you so wished to leave but were too afraid to, especially since the passing of the only people who shared your blood.
You had always been told stories of the other races living in Middle-earth such as the powerful wizards, the stubborn but loyal dwarves, the pacific hobbits, the beautiful elves and of course the cruel orcs. However, throughout your 23 years of life, you had solely been surrounded by your own race, Men.
Even though the narrow streets were constantly filled with people of your own kind, a certain feeling of loneliness mixed with a profound emptiness seemed to rest in your heart. The somber night that had now almost taken over the whole sky glittering with faraway stars seemed to be the only way to slightly numb that feeling for a few moments.
Your tranquil train of thought was suddenly interrupted by a thump coming from under the roof where you sat. A faint voice followed. “If you don’t get off of there quickly, I will have eaten your plate my dear,” said Theodora, the woman who had taken you under her wing after you became an orphan.
“Coming!” you quickly replied while skillfully climbing down the roof.
“Sorry…” you muttered weakly as you entered the little cozy cabin she had welcomed you in a while ago that slowly became your own as well. You quietly sat on your respective chair at the table and nibbled at the usual scrambled egg you had for dinner pretty much every day.
Theodora interrupted the peaceful silence that had settled since you came through the front door. “We are expecting very important visitors in four days’ time,” she said, the hint of an excited smile gracing her lips while not meeting your now curious gaze, waiting for her to elaborate.
“Have you heard that a new king of Gondor and Arnor has been crowned?” She looked up swiftly as you nodded slightly. Indeed, the coronation had been the center of every discussion in RougeCap since last week. She continued. “Well, along with some of his companions who helped him reclaim the crown and newly made allies, King Aragorn is visiting a few towns found on his lands as a way to present himself to the population and we happen to be one of the chosen ones.”
You silently gaped at her words that slowly registered in your brain. “This is amazing news!” you said loudly as you felt excitement bubbling up in your body which had not happen in a long time. Indeed, it had been a while since anyone of that importance had come to your town. Theodora finally looked up and smiled at the eagerness you now shared with her.
“How many people are expected?” you asked.
“I don’t know exactly. Close to a hundred perhaps. In any case, starting tomorrow, we are joining everyone else for the preparations. It is said that they will be staying with us two days and everything needs to be perfect while they are here. We don’t want to make RougeCap look bad, especially since we already barely get any recognition in this land.”
You nodded and you both resumed your meal while happily discussing which tasks you could accomplish until the arrival of these people you knew nothing about but couldn’t wait to meet.
That night, you had a hard time falling asleep since you were so giddy knowing what was to come. Finally, you would meet some of the other races of Middle-earth you had always wished to encounter and they were coming to your own town. Eventually, you still managed to rest in order to be ready to begin organizing everything for their arrival.
Over the course of the next few days, everybody got to work. Some were setting up the tents where our guests would be sleeping, others took care of arranging a room were there would be music and dancing both nights and others set up numerous tables and chairs outside in a valley were the two dinners would be held. The remaining villagers, including Theodora and you, gathered up all the food and ingredients you possessed, which wasn’t much but just enough for everyone, and cooked everything necessary. Along with Theodora and a few others, you were in charge of the turnip soup that would be served before the main course which was roasted chicken. You were quite exhausted since you had never cooked for that many people at a time. Nevertheless, you happily kept going knowing it would be worth it.
The preparations kept you busy and before you knew it, the day had finally come.
