Thank you so much for entrusting me with this important scene of your story! °A° I was incredibly scared to draw this, if I have to be honest, because the scene you wrote was so powerful and full of feelings I felt I couldn't possibly squeeze in all the emotion you poured in a piece of canvas.

Commissioned by sweet @all-the-birdz (back in September, jeez, it took a lifetime I'm so sorry - and you're also the one I couldn't get in touch with because I replied to your private message without taking notes of your nickname, lol, I'm so stupid send help 😂).

She asked me to draw a scene inspired by the amazing fic linked above (a KakaSaku story based on Hades and Persephone's greek myth!) and I had so much fun! This scene sorta happens in chapter 3!

Thanks for waiting so patiently! I'm really sorry for the abysmal delay. but real-life is kicking my butt super hard lately. Hope both of you like how it turned out!

The flowers in the pool are Narcissi! In the most famous version of the myth, this flower was placed there by Zeus (on Hades request) to lure the girl out of the cavern in which Demeter (her mom) had hidden her. Since it was the last flower caught by the soon-to-be-Queen of the Underworld, it became her symbol and also the flower that is generally placed as decoration near tombs.

Two months ago (beginning of September I guess?) I received a private message in my inbox from a sweet person who wanted to commission me a drawing (a gift actually, for a fic).

Of course, I cannot say what ff it's all about, but they asked me to draw sketches of some very specific scenes, starring Sakura Haruno.

Since I'm a stupid dork (;_;), I replied ANONIMOUSLY ( ͡ಥ ͜ʖ ͡ಥ) without memorizing your name. Pls if you recognize yourself in this message, just know that I didn't forget about you. I just don't know how to reach out (LOL) and tried my best to recognize your name among my and the fic's author's followers but to no avail.

I had so much fun drawing/animating this! Aside from loving Yamato (who deserves some joy, sweet boy), I have a very soft spot for the location in which the story unfolds (I won't tell!).

The flower depicted here is the astounding Centaurea cyanus, a beautiful bright blue flower that grows in meadows and that is used in herbal medicine for its distinct ocular anti-inflammatory properties!

Did you know that fresh flowers were worn by young men in love on the buttonholes of their jackets? If the flower withered too fast, it was said their love was one-sided!

- If you're interested in commissioning me, I still have some spots open for a limited amount of time (I'm about to move and start working as a researcher. It'll probably be quite intense at first, so I may temporarily close my commission windows or be a bit more delayed than usual!).

chamomile - get something off your chest, go ahead, rant!

Uhh. Well. I was quite a rantler when I was younger. I'm not that better now (meaning, there are still a few, rare things that set me off towards rageland) but I tend to be an implosive bomb more than a loud screamer, and I rant only in private with people I trust (so, if you, invisible reader, do happen to hear me ranting, it's because I really do trust you!). So I try my best to avoid rants and public demonstration of annoyance because generally ranting on socials is long and excruciatingly tiring, and I have so little time for my decompressing activities I wouldn't dream to waste it discussing about stuff that upsets me. I generally do my super-best to just avoid this kind of stuff altogether. I abide by the rule "If you don't have anything good to say, then just shut up", and this adheres to my ranting sprees, too (at least now that I'm an adult). So, yeah, if I just have to pick something that I'd like to get off my chest, is why in 2021, with hectic schedules, so much stuff to do, nasty things happening all over the world, humanitarian and ecological crises, epidemics, and one pretty nasty economical downturn that is leaving millions of people jobless and pennyless all around the world (the unemployment rate here in Italy is roughly 10%, so yay, wow, let's turn to a life of crime, shall we), there are still people who waste time leaving hate messages over fictional ships. I mean, how is it these people have all this free time at disposal? Pls share your secrets, because at this point there's something wrong with my life (and I doubt it's due to my shipping choices), since 24hrs are barely enough to eat and sleep with my current lifestyle. This is something I really can't wrap my head around. 🤨

lavender - what is your favourite scent?

My weak spot is vanilla. Anything vanilla scented (parfume, soap, scented candles, FOOD). I used to prepare my own bath bombs with vanilla oils, too when I had more spare time (and I used to give them as Christmas gifts too... awww sweet times)! I crave that scent, like goats crave salt.

iced tea - sunrise or sunset?

Sunset. Most of my happiest memories are linked to sunsets. Sunrise is generally linked to my insomnia (yikes).

There was an amabie girl who fell in love with tengu boy. She told him about her feelings, yet he said that nobody would love such an ugly creature. Those words hurt the amabie girl so much she wanted to forget about her own existence. As the creature of the sea the amabie needed to get back to water but she didn't care about anything, she spent days on the surface being consumed by despair. But one day she woke up noticing that she wasn't alone. Somebody covered her body from the sunlight and watered her skin. A kind tsukumogami spirit took care of the amabie girl while she was asleep. He didn't leave, instead the spirit waited patiently for her to awaken. It was a kind tsukumogami who had been abandoned long time ago, so he felt sorry for lonely amabie and decided to stay with her. "He hides his face..." - she thought.

She looked under his veil and saw his face. It was a very beautiful one. The amabie wanted to be closer to that beauty at least somehow.

The scales from her body started to fall down one by one. Seeing smiling and lively amabie made tsukumogami happy.

Years later on their way, full of adventures, those two helped a lot of troubled spirits and humans, staying always together. HEADCANON TIME - Sakura-amabie almost can't speak, she barely knows some words, and tsukumogami has helped her with learning. - I don't want to demonize Ssk here, but tengus might be d*cks sometimes. - KKS-tsukumogami was abandoned by his owner about 100 years ago. By tsukumogami standards he's practically a baby, lmao. Also i think that he was born from an abandoned veil? A hat? Uchiwa fan? Idk.

Hey guys. I've got some things to say.

(possible TW for health-related things and mentions of the pandemic.)

Well, life has been...hectic lately. As a lot of you are from the US, you're probably aware that the pandemic has gotten worse...especially those of us who live in the south.

And if you're like me and you happen to have a pre-existing condition, then you're probably about as terrified to get Covid as I am. Some of you know, and a lot of you don't, that I have a heart condition called atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia. It sounds way more complicated than it actually is (basically, my heart has extra pathways for the electrical currents that run from my brain to the heart that control the beats).

My heart can go from 75 bpm and in the next beat, it's 200. Sometimes it rights itself on its own and all I have to do is be patient, other times, I have to hold my breath and trigger something called my vagus nerve to get it to come back to normal. As you can guess, even a super simple spell that lasts five minutes leaves me feeling as if I had ran a marathon.

I'm drained both physically and mentally and it makes working almost impossible. Because these episodes are brought on by stress mostly, working in a highly stressful environment surrounded by covid, makes things a bit difficult. A lot of my coworkers have fallen ill. Some of them (not at our immediate store but in our district) have died. A woman who had worked at our store last year passed away from covid.

Some of these people had no pre-existing conditions whatsoever. Which really scares me. So, I've made the decision not to go back to work on site. I'm currently looking for a job at home (wish me luck since our internet is terrible where I live) and picking up freelance work.

I'm going to post my paypal info below. My Ko-fi will not work anymore. I'm not sure why but paypal is just easier for me. I understand we're all struggling right now and I'm not expecting anything. But if you happen to have a few bucks to spare, I would greatly and forever appreciate your kindness.

I don't know what the future will bring. The next few months will be hard.

I doubt we will even have Christmas this year unless the pandemic really settles down. I know so many people who are scared to be out there and I completely understand.

A handy guide for Betas

I thought I should make this post in light of a recent experience a friend of mine had. I’m in no way an expert on the art of editing, but I believe these etiquette tips won’t hurt anyone.

Being someone’s beta is perhaps a dubious privilege, but it doesn’t change that it requires a foundation of trust. A writer’s confidence can be very easily crippled; giving an unpolished piece to someone can very nerve-wracking! I think most betas tend to be authors themselves, can you remember your early days as a writer sharing your work? I’d imagine it was pretty scary.

Not to mention, not all writers are veterans of their craft, some are trying their hand at a new hobby. I think to beta someone’s piece, it takes a certain amount delicacy. And if you’re not that type of editor, that’s also fine, as some writers prefer a blunt, direct approach.

The trick is being clear about that from the get-go!

So here are some general tips:

1. Establish what the writer is looking for; grammar? Spelling? Flow? Dialogue tags? Punctuation? Or perhaps they would appreciate a second opinion on things like plot? Maybe they struggle with writing fight scenes or smut, and would prefer suggestions on sentence construction, for example. It doesn’t hurt to know what you’re looking for.

2. Remember that when editing someone’s piece, you’re refining their work, not rewriting it to your taste. It can be a fine line! It’s important to remember you’re fixing errors and occasionally making suggestions, but to each author their writing style!

3. Be sure to word your suggestions as suggestions, not demands. Text doesn’t have a facial expression and can easily come off as rude/demanding.

For Example

Delete this, it doesn’t make sense

Can easily be: consider clarifying this sentence or removing it as it could confuse the reader. Tone is everything.

What does this mean? Say this differently.

Can easily be: consider rewording this sentence for clarity. Give suggestions.

Notice these examples leave it up to the writer to decide.

These are general examples of course, the point is, like writing, the choice of words here changes everything, has a certain impact.

4. Avoid stating a negative opinion like ‘this sounds corny’, ‘this is cliche’, ‘this is cheesy’. Give suggestions on alternatives. Suggest a rewording for the problematic dialogue.

Just like unsolicited critique on a fanfic can cripple an author’s confidence, demanding or curt remarks from a beta can have the same effect.

There are some additional things betas can do that are pretty great but not required:

1. Praise parts you particularly liked: a beautifully constructed sentence, a clever line, a funny bit of dialogue. That kind of confidence boost is invaluable!

2. Give feedback on the overall piece which can include both praise and advice.

3. Offer to take a second look if the author would like after they look over your suggestions.

Generally, the message is to be kind and considerate. Be sure to use gentle words when making suggestions. Make sure to respect the author’s style.

Feel free to add to/contradict this post with suggestions of your own, or to use any personal experience as basis for advice.
