Home Sweet Home // Blurb // Original Characters

A/N: hey hey hey, I'm sort of back to writing after close to 2 years without posting any writings. Work, education and other personal things has been a b*tch.

Summary: Your boyfriend of 8 months is an ice hockey player who just got home from a game in the middle of the night. He confesses something to you while you are half asleep.

Oliver just stepped inside of your shared apartment. He had just gotten home from an away game on the other end of the country. This bus ride took about 5 hours with no stops, but due to the late hour, and the driver driving him and his team to the game, he needed to be replaced, so he could rest. 

That pit-stop took about 10-15 minutes, which added up in the end. But it didn’t bother Oliver, he was used to the long trips and the poor sleep that followed, but it didn’t matter to him, because you were there in your shared bed when he got home.

It was currently 03.38 AM and you were in a deep sleep in the middle of the bed, covered in both yours and Oliver’s duvet.

Before Oliver got that far into the apartment, he placed his keys in the small cup you had placed on a shelf by the door, took off his shoes and jacket before he headed to the kitchen to get a snack and something to drink. Oliver continued to the bathroom to brush his teeth and took off his clothes and put it in the hamper.

Once that was taken cared of, he walked into your bedroom slowly so he didn’t wake you up. He knew you usually stayed up a little late when he had an away game, just to make sure that he was heading home safely.

Oliver closed the bedroom door and quietly put on some sweatpants and a tank top to sleep in, even though he felt warm and comfortable, he knew he needed some clothes due to the chill temperature outside and in the bedroom.

He took off his duvet and revealed you far far away in dream land. Oliver couldn’t help but smile at his love. To him, you always looked so cute, so innocent and so relaxed when you were asleep.

He hated to wake you, but back when things started to get serious, you two made a deal that he would wake you up to let you know he made it home safely. 

But today he didn’t.

Instead he redid your duvet over you, which made you even more comfortable than you already were. Oliver then laid down behind you, spooning you and placed his duvet over you and him.

You woke up slightly but this but you were quickly to fall back into your sleep again, since you knew Oliver’s touch and his scent.

But before he went to sleep he whispered three words neither of you had said to each other.

“I love you, bunny. Sleep tight”

Right after Oliver and you fell into a long and plunging sleep.

I think the thing I love most about fanfiction is that no two authors will ever have exactly the same understanding of a character. If you gave multiple writers the same situation with the same characters, none of them would write the same thing or have the characters react in the exact same way, yet every time it would still be completely believable. Every author understands, relates to, and connects with characters in a different way and that will always show in their writing because they’ll bring out certain aspects of a character’s personality that others won’t even pick up on, and still the character will be written in a way that rings of how they were originally in whatever piece of media they’re from. Nobody will write the same thing with the same characters, even if they’re using identical prompts or tropes, and it provides so much variety and enrichment and it’s honestly just a beautiful thing to see how differently everyone views their favourite characters while simultaneously seeing them the same.

"I'm telling you guys," You drawled, a frown tight on your face, "Spencer hates me."

"He does not hate you!" Emily insisted, nearly spilling her drink with how passionate she was about the topic in question.

"He doesn't hate you," JJ agreed, much more soft-spoken.

"Why else would he be avoiding me like the plague? I told him that I liked his tie today and he stared at the ground and walked right past me."

Penelope giggled into her glass, "He lives in the overlap between rude and smitten, Y/N."

"Smitten," You scoffed, "He's an asshole is what he is. What kind of a person doesn't even acknowledge a compliment like that!"

"The kind that won't be able to get one word out without stuttering." JJ suggested, a knowing smirk on her face as she exchanged a look with Emily and Penelope.

"I don't believe you guys." You huffed, busying yourself on your phone to avoid their teasing glances, "If he's so smitten with me, why did he practically sprint away when I accidentally touched his hand?"

"You're so fucking oblivious." Emily scoffed, "I don't know how you've made it this far in life."
