"How quickly jealous I become of the wind when it, and not I, gets the privilege of properly messing up your hair."

"This is what love does: It makes you want to rewrite the world. It makes you want to choose the characters, build the scenery, guide the plot. The person you love sits across from you and you want to do everything in your power to make it possible, endlessly possible. And when it's just the two of you, alone in a room, you can pretend that this is how it is, this is how it will be."

"We do nothing more than kiss. We do nothing less than kiss. At times, she moves to take it further, but I don't need that. I trace her shoulders as she traces my back. I kiss her neck. She kisses beneath my ear. The times we stop, we smile at each other. Giddy disbelief, giddy belief. She should be in English class. I should be in bio. We weren't supposed to come anywhere near the ocean today. We have defied the day as it was set out for us.
We walk hand in hand down the beach as the sun dips in the sky. I am not thinking about the past. I am not thinking about the future. I am full of such gratitude for the sun, the water, the way my feet sink into the sand, the way my hand feels holding hers."

"...she said, "Distract me."
"Distract you?" He regarded from beneath half-lidded eyes, hand still against her chest.
"What?" she asked, smiling without quite intending to. She couldn't read his expression, but she could read the way his body bent towards hers.
"You really want me to...?"
"More than anything," [she] said, soft and sure.
Leaning over, not speaking, he brought his mouth to hers. For a wild moment she wondered if he wanted her. Her and not just this.
At first, the kiss seemed part of the night and the dancing, a dreamy madness. [He] kissed her as though he could reassure himself she was awake and okay only so long as they were touching. He kissed her as though he thought she'd turn to smoke the moment he stopped.
She rolled toward him, and his arm came around her, pressing her closer, his fingers against the small on her back. Everything felt liquid and slow. As her hands fumbled with his shirt, trying to get it up and over his broad shoulders, as she pressed her cheek against smooth brown skin, and as he made a soft sound in the back of his throat that seemed to be his way of holding in check some other, less polite sound that [she] desperately wanted to hear, she couldn't help thinking of how strange it was to be doing this with a friend."

"The feeling of Miel's mouth on his turned so solid it felt like the chill of metal. It grew from the brushing of her rose petals to the sting of how the winds blew on the shortest day of the year. It took root in him, digging itself harder for having almost been torn out. He felt her, warm and alive as the roots of a yew tree.
The way he loved her was his, even if she wasn't."

Note: Miel's rose petals are the fantasy twist on When The Moon Was Ours; she basically grows a rose from her forearm due to a curse put on her in her childhood. This is what Sam is referencing here.

"She was amber and last night. The moment between summer and fall. The honey she ate off spoons in Aracely's kitchen. This was one of the things he loved about her, that they called her Honey, and that she was so quick to eat her own name. He would never be free or this. How he wanted Miel in a way that hurt as much as the tightening of his lungs against the cold water, a desperation for a breath in matched only by the impossibility of taking one."

"I know that to be with Brian: I would give all ten fingers. I would give everything."
Source: I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
The narrator is an artist. Honestly read this book if you haven't because it's the most incredible piece of literature I have ever read.

"We walked home together, drunkenly, in the dark. In my semi-intoxicated state, knowing what we were going to do, I finally had the courage to do the things I wanted to do to her. I pushed her up against a tall chain-link fence covered in creeping vines and kissed her, more hungrily than I ever had before. I kissed her down her neck, across her collarbone, ran my hands over her hips, her thighs. [She] responded with gasps, ran her fingers through my hair, grabbed tufts of it, pulled herself against me."

"It was his. All of it was his. His body, refusing to match his life. His heart, bitter and worn. His love for Miel, even if it had nowhere to go, even if he didn't know how to love a girl who kept herself as distant from him as an unnamed constellation.
These things belonged to him. They were his, even if they were breaking him."
