Today's mission was a little different. You were being sent to the Grand Glacier Hotel. How grand it truly is you will find out. Montague has been on the UnderGrounds list for a while. 
His vault had many items inside that would give clues as to where Peely was. 
Only problem was there was no way inside without distracting the boss. 
He was quite the mastermind you had to admit. Going from a low life thief to a rich billionaire. Leader of the Society. Heart of diamond, nerves of steel. 
He really had his slogan going for him. Owner of a fancy hotel? He knew how to get the bag. 
Too bad he had no idea about you. High agent in the UnderGround knew just how to get a rich man's attention. 
You pulled up to the hotel on your high class motorcycle. Why get a lambo? It wouldn’t stand up.
Your diamond motorcycle was more classy. Beadies didn’t Montage love diamonds. 
Your outfit was detected out in blue and crystals. A classy race suit. With a helmet just as decorated. This was how you always went to missions. 
With your motorcycle and wit. 
The only reason you even got so high up in the Under Ground was your motorcycle gang. They were tired of the millionaires on the island taking areas that they owned. 
You headed up the steps looking through your helmet's glass. 
A few guards walked around. They instantly turn to you as you enter the building. Your suit glittering in the light of the hotel lobby. Montague was at the top of the steps. He instantly looked at you. 
You noticed his eyes widen at the sight of your outfit. Diamonds sure did catch his attention. Seemed like he had an interest already by the way he walked down putting a hand up in a guard's face to make his way over to you. 
His medallion on his neck glistened. You needed to keep him distracted for about an hour. Jonsey and Hope said any longer and you’d need to leave quickly. Meaning the mission failed. 
“How lovely to see a new face.” The man's French accent hit your ears. A smug smirk tugged at his lips. He sure as hell had a handsome face. Almost felt like a waste to want to take this man down.
Perhaps you could take him down in a different way. There was an idea for a distraction. 
“How lovely it is to see your face.” You offred back as a witty response, slowly sliding off your helmet. Shaking out your hair and letting your helmet rest on your waist. Giving him a quick up and down glance. 
He let out a breathy laugh at your response. “Love to see a woman in diamond.” He bit his lip giving you a once over glance. “Love to see a man in diamond.” You took a step closer. He didn’t move. He was beginning to enjoy this. He had flirted with many women before.
He knew what they liked. How to charm and woo them.
“What brings you here?” He titled his head the white tips of his hair parted so perfectly The scar on his eye made him look so much more menacing. 
“I need a room for the night. Traveling to Ritzy Rivera tomorrow. It’s a tad bit too far of a drive for now though.” You offered a quick excuse. He nodded his head thinking over it. “Of course. We have plenty of rooms.” He headed over to the check in area. You followed him taking note of his outfit. 
“Room 203.” He held out the key to you, your hands brushing as you took it. Or well his gloved hands. 
“Do you mind if we chat for a while?” You quipped quickly noting how he began to walk off. 
He thought for a second. You had caught his attention greatly. He never saw a woman just pull up to the front on a motorcycle. Specifically dolled out in diamonds. 
All the girls he had talked to or been in the presence of drooled or fell over his feet. They never wanted to just talk. 
Maybe you were different. He was rich, had a whole business to run and a gift to make things into diamonds. Perhaps you liked him for him, as much as you knew. 
You seemed rich enough. Didn’t need his money. 
“Sure, we can chat.” He nodded and sat down on one of the chairs in the lounge. 
You took a seat in front of him. Eyeing him with your poker face. 
“Do you often wear such little clothing when biking in the snowy mountains?” His question almost shocked you. Perhaps you did have little clothing on. Your racing suit was a one piece. With holes at the knees, a gap to show your stomach and some of your back. Cleavage on display as well. Perhaps that’s what he liked.  
“Do you like what you see or are you complaining?” You bit your lip and leaned back in the chair. Noticing his eyes go from yours to your exposed chest area. 
“The first option.” He leaned forward in his chair, hands clasping together. 
“Though I would hate to only like you for your body. Do tell me about yourself.” He leaned back now instead of forward. Eyes going back to yours. Being respectful. 
“Right.” A small smile creeped up your face. “I race motorcycles and cars. Got my own motorcycle club. Could say I get quite a lot of money from racing.” You crossed your legs and titled your head a little. “I don’t fall so easily into men like you. So, I'm sorry to burst your bubble if you thought this was going to go somewhere. When I drove that bike up here I didn’t have my legs wide open. Mr.Heart of Diamonds.” A smug smirk came on your face at his reaction. 
“Oh no my heart.” He clutched his chest acting to be in pain. “This girl got me, what a shame she won’t like me.” A fake cry came from him now. He stood up quickly. Gaining himself back to his straight face and tough exterior. 
“I’ll show you how to spread your legs open for me.” He stood over you. He was quite tall. The earpiece covered by your hair went off. 
“Vault successful. Heading out soon.” Hope's voice rang through. 
He leaned down, his hands gripping the arm rests of the chair. You looked up at him. Smirks on both your faces.
“One of us is going to have to crack.” His voice was so low you almost couldn’t understand him. The accent wasn’t helping either. 
The tension was high as he was merely centimeters from your face. The second you walked into this hotel you knew it would end like this. 
Did you mind? No. To be truthful his file photo was pretty handsome. 
There was a reason you were so quick to take this mission. You one knew you could distract him but also. You wanted to distract him. 
He was a bad man. Your group hated him. But imagine how much he could help your club. You could own half the island with him. 
Race on the side and become higher up in the world. The UnderGround was bound to end someday. These guys were too good. It’s not like Hope is going to be able to take down her sister.
Everyone saw how she looked when her sister was mentioned. She could never hit the killing shot. It would have to be here to give the go on it. 
This other option had so much more potential for you in the long run. 
You had betrayed an agency before. Shadow wasn’t so keen on you. 
Midas just had better options for you. Of course you’d be a double agent. Feeding info to both sides never choosing one. 
This time you’d choose a side. 
“Why don’t you give in then? You seem like you want this.” Your teasing voice hit Montagues ears. 
He didn’t even care that you two were in the public lounge now. He chuckled and smashed his lips to yours. “I’d give in any time.” He said between kisses. His lips were cold yet they kissed you with such hunger. 
“You’re the most outstanding woman I've met. To act like you don’t care about the richest man on the map kissing you. Such a little bitch.” He fell back on his chair. Pulling you over with him. 
You slung your legs over and sat on his lap. 
“Maybe I don’t care.” You teased back, lips back on him. His only response was a quiet moan. 
His hands gripped your sides, causing a small gasp to escape your lips. “I know you care, how could you not, beautiful?” He shook his head. His hair shook slightly. 
He pulled you back and let his lips hold yours captive. 
He kissed with such eagerness. Were you truly this desirable? 
Perhaps he was just very horny. 
“Mission is a success. Head out now.” Hope's voice echoed in your ear as Montauges tongue explored your mouth.
You ignored the cue to leave. It will be easy. Just get up and walk out. Leaving the man hard and confused. 
Though you didn’t want to leave so soon. Or ever for that matter. 
“Let me walk you to your room, please.” His eagerness to see you to your room made your heart skip a beat. For him to be a gentleman even after such a hot make out sesh. 
You got off his lap and accepted his offer. He gave a flirty smile and headed up the stairs, leading you to your room. 
The sound of the door unlocking then quickly shutting was all you heard as your lips were sealed to Montagues again. He wrapped his arms around you tightly, not letting go. 
You let him hold you. He was deprived of someone.
He could have all the girls he wanted yet he refused to get too handsy. He would let them please him. Not giving much to them. Not like they cared, they just wanted the money.
You were different.
You made his heart melt.
His nerves flare up.
Your hands running through his hair caused him to be reminded of the boner growing painfully harder in his pants. 
“I have known you for only a few hours, yet I want you forever.” His husky words made you think. 
You pulled back from him. Looking up at him with a serious face. “Are you serious?” His answer would change your life and reputation forever. 
“More serious than I have ever been in my life.” He whispered in your ear. “As long as you aren’t taking me for my money I’d be glad to call you mine.” He kissed your neck as his hot breath tickled your skin. 
“I’ll take you for something else if you let me.” You moaned out receiving a chuckle from the man. 
“Thought you’d never ask.” He shoved you down on the silky bed. Trench coat being torn off and vest unbuttoned in seconds.

The way he had worshiped you in bed. Grabbed you in all the right places and made sure you were okay with anything; made you want to be his even more. 
You were his woman. The reason he was happy to get up in the morning. Sure he had money and a gift to turn anything to diamonds, but you were the best gift in his life. 
He had begged you to stay, bring your club here. He would help you out. 
He was so soft around you, yet such an ass hole to everyone else.
Even better. 
You never went back to the UnderGround. You never even notified them of your leave.
It must have shocked them all the moment your own Pub was established not too far from Grand Glacier. 
Not only that but your club had joined you. Hearing the perks and benefits of this new business deal. 
Not only did you own a part of the map, have Montague around your finger, and a biker club decked out in so many weapons the UnderGround would regret losing you, you also had power.
All the Millionaires on the map know you now. 
They know their boss doesn’t want his girl to be messed with. 
It was only a matter of time before the UnderGround was taken out.
After all, you have picked a side now.

you run a hand against the wall of the dorm to steady yourself as you carefully walk through the pitch dark hallways as you make your way towards heeseung’s room. you tug the sleeves of heeseung’s sweatshirt further over your hands as you hesitantly knock on his bedroom door. you can just barely hear the rapid noise of keyboard clicks as you knock once again - this time a little louder. 
“y/n?” he whispers when he opens the door. “what are you doing here? it’s late.”
“do you mind if i stay? just for a little while,” you whisper. 
“yeah, of course.” heeseung sits down in his gaming chair before patting his lap. “come here.”
you softly smile, walking over to sit in his lap. his hands ghost against your waist as he leans over your shoulder to see the monitor. “put your hands like this,” he whispers, maneuvering you into the correct position.
“here?” you ask as you carefully test out the controls.
“perfect,” heeseung nods. he leans down to press a small kiss against the exposed skin of your neck. his arms rest comfortably around your waist; his chin on top of your shoulder. “you’re perfect.”

a yawn escapes you as you rub the tiredness out of your eyes. you sleepily stumble into the kitchen, leaning back against the wall for support. jay glances up, smiling softly at the sight of you. your hair is disheveled and your face is still slightly puffy from sleep. one of his old t-shirts hangs loosely off of your shoulders and your legs are nearly completely enveloped in his sweatpants.
“hyung?” the word is coated with the remains of sleepiness as it leaves your lips. 
“hey jagi,” jay smiles. he sets his spatula aside to grab a pair of chopsticks, quickly flipping the egg he was making in the pan before sliding it onto a nearby plate. you walk over to where he’s standing, leaning your head against his back. 
jay cuts off a small piece of egg before turning back to you, holding it out with a soft smile. “here,” he whispers as he holds it up to your lips. 
you hum in satisfaction when you finish chewing the small piece, nodding to yourself. “it’s good.”
“good,” jay smiles. he turns around in your arms just enough to face you. he leans down to press a quick kiss against your forehead. “you can have the rest.”
you lean up to press a kiss against jay’s jawline as you take the plate with a smile. “thank you, hyung.”

jake grimaces slightly when another string of violent coughs force their way out of your lungs. he all but winces at the way your entire body trembles between each one before it finally passes. you collapse back onto your bed, a soft groan of pain escaping your lips.
jake carefully pushes your door open, setting a bowl of steaming soup down on your bedside table before kneeling down beside your bed so he’s eye-level with you. he softly smiles as he brushes a stray strand of hair away from your face, making your eyes flutter open. “hyung?” you rasp out. 
“hi honey,” jake whispers. “i made you some soup.”
his hand brushes against your back as he carefully coaxes you to sit upright. your eyes squeeze shut at the sudden wave of dizziness that hits with each movement. you let your body go limp, letting your headboard support your body. 
“thank you,” you finally whisper. 
jake sympathetically smiles, moving to sit beside you. he carefully raises the bowl up before holding out a spoonful of soup for you. “here.”
you flash him a half-smile as he carefully begins to feed you. “i love you,” you mumble.
“i love you too, jagi,” jake hums.

you bring a hand up to cover your mouth as another small yawn escapes you. sunghoon startles slightly when you lean over to rest your head against his shoulder. you sleepily blink yourself awake; your eyes still fixated on the action movie playing on the dorm’s tv. 
“tired?” sunghoon whispers. you simply hum in response. he gently coaxes you to lay down in his lap, gently pushing your hair out of your eyes. you fondly smile up at him before you nuzzle even closer to him. “get some rest, jagi,” he whispers.
another loud explosion plays through the tv speakers. a soft exhale escapes you as you let your eyes flutter closed. sunghoon’s attention shifts from the thrilling action movie playing on the screen to you. he watches as your breathing slowly evens out; your body seemingly unaffected by the various explosions and triumphant music.
“aw,” niki teases from his spot across the room. “what a cute couple!”
“shut up,” sunghoon retorts, hiding his flushed cheeks in the darkness. 
heeseung reaches over to pat his shoulder in a silent gesture of support. “you’re so soft for him,” he chuckles. 
“whatever,” sunghoon murmurs. he playfully rolls his eyes as he ignores him, turning back towards your sleeping form. he softly smiles to himself as he adjusts a stray strand of your hair so it’s out of your face.

sunoo props himself up on his elbow as he leans over to quickly switch his alarm off before it disturbs your sleep too much. he yawns as he stretches his body out slightly before rolling onto his side to face you. he smiles softly to himself at the sight of you peacefully sleeping beside him. 
he reaches over, carefully brushing a stray strand of hair behind your ear before he leans down to press a kiss against the crown of your head. you stir slightly at the feeling; your eyes fluttering open slightly. “sorry jagi,” sunoo whispers. “did i wake you?”
you shake your head slightly, shifting even closer to him. you curl up against his side, burying your head in his neck. “what time is it?” you mumble.
sunoo pats your back slightly as he leans over just enough to grab his phone once again, quickly switching the device on before setting it back down on your bedside table. “early,” he whispers. “come on. we need to get up soon.”
you let out a soft whine, nuzzling yourself even closer towards your boyfriend. “five more minutes,” you whisper as you lean back just enough to look up at him. “please?”
sunoo dramatically sighs before he nods. “okay. but only five minutes.”
you simply hum in response, quick to lean back against his chest and fall back into a peaceful sleep.

“y/n,” jungwon bashfully smiles as he holds his tart out to show you. the chocolate has been delicately decorated with small sprinkles with large, grape gummies carefully set in the center. 
“wow,” you whisper. “it looks great!”
“do you want to try some?”
you glance back at the staff momentarily before turning to face jungwon once again. “are you sure?” he nods as he reaches over to grab a knife to cut a small piece out. 
“here,” he whispers, carefully holding it up to your lips. “try it.”
the tart tastes sweet in your mouth as you bite into it. your eyes light up in excitement as you smile brightly at him. 
“it’s really good!” 
jungwon chuckles as his cheeks flush a light pink. “i’m glad,” he smiles to himself. 
“i’m serious, hyung,” you say, wrapping your arms around his waist. “you should be proud of yourself. it’s delicious!” he shakes his head in denial before a dramatic sigh interrupts you.
“are you two gonna be that cute all day?” niki whines.
“why aren’t you that cute with the rest of us?” jay playfully argues.
you can’t help the laugh that escapes you as jungwon turns around to face the boy’s. “he’s the maknae,” he argues. “he deserves it.”

you let out a content sigh as you relax even more against niki’s chest, relishing in the feeling of his hand occasionally rubbing against your back. “tired?” he whispers, turning away from the drama playing on the dorm’s tv to look down at you.
you softly hum in response; exhaustion slowly begins to hit your body after a long day of practice. “you can’t fall sleep yet. we need to eat dinner and wash up,” niki says as he pushes a strand of hair behind your ear. 
“please?” you ask, shifting to look up at him before you wrap your arms around his waist. you lean your head against his chest. 
you flinch slightly as niki’s cool hands move from rubbing against your back to slip underneath his stolen shirt. his fingers ghost against your bare skin before he abruptly starts tickling your sides. you jump against him; slightly startled at the sudden feeling.
“hyung!” you laugh, squirming in an attempt to get away from him. you instinctively grab onto his hands as he chuckles. niki’s hands remain on your hips when he pauses. 
“what?” he snickers. “i had to make sure you wouldn’t fall asleep.”
“hyung,” you dramatically pout. 
niki smiles as he leans down to press a kiss against your forehead. “okay,” he relents. “i’ll wake you up when dinner is done.”

The tragic fire that claimed the lives of Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffe and postponed the debut manned flight of the Apollo Spacecraft. The Apollo AS-204 was cancelled as NASA officials investigated the cause of the fire and came up with changes to the block II Command Module, set to debut now on Apollo 7. Set back Apollo program by 18 months. This deserves its own post
Here is what was originally planned for the first manned mission (C-type) of the Apollo Command and Service Module:
"Originally planned for the last quarter of 1966. Numerous problems with the Apollo Block I spacecraft resulted in a flight delay to February 1967. The designation AS-204 was used by NASA for the flight at the time; the designation Apollo 1 was applied retroactively at the request of Grissom's widow.
Apollo 205, a second solo flight test of the Block I Apollo CSM, was planned but cancelled on December 22, 1966. The Schirra, Cunningham, Eisele crew from that flight became the backup crew to Apollo 204 (replacing the original backup crew of McDivitt, Scott, Schweickart)."

One proposal was to launch Gemini 11 (or 12 or both) and Apollo 1 at the same time and rendezvous in orbit. If the first two Apollo missions (AS-201 and AS-202) were a failure, then AS-204 (AS-203 did not carry a CSM) would be flown unmanned and a Gemini astronaut would EVA transfer to and enter the CSM-012, check out its systems, and return to the Gemini. However, with the delays with getting CSM-012 ready, having to reconfigure the Gemini capsule to work with Apollo and the eagerness to finish Gemini to focus on Apollo, this proposal was cancelled.

"For the first two and a half hours in orbit, CSM-012 would remain attached to the S-IVB stage much as a Moon-bound Apollo would do prior to trans-lunar injection. After separation of the CSM, Grissom would perform a station keeping exercise with the spent S-IVB stage so that White and Chaffee could photograph the stage as it vented its residual propellants. This would provide vital observations on the behavior of the S-IVB stage to aid in planning future mission activities.
At this point, Apollo 1 would perform an open-ended mission which could last for as little as six orbits in order to meet at least the highest priority mission objectives or as long as two weeks, provided that CSM-012 continued to function adequately. The primary objectives of the mission basically centered on testing all the systems of the Block I Apollo spacecraft during ascent, in orbit and during descent. The first pair of firings of the SM’s SPS would take place the day after launch to raise and circularize the orbit of Apollo 1. No attempts would be made to perform a rendezvous with the spent S-IVB stage. Afterwards, burns of the SPS were planned to be performed every other day during the course of the mission with each astronaut taking turns in the left-side commander’s seat – three burns each by Grissom and White as well as two burns by Chaffee. Apollo 1 would carry a television camera which would allow live broadcasts from inside the CM cabin during the mission. The camera would also allow ground controllers to monitor the CM’s control panel during key parts of the flight.
In addition to the laundry list of systems checks, Apollo 1 also carried an array of hardware to perform a total of nine medical, scientific and technological experiments during its long orbital mission. These consisted of the following:

M-3A In-Flight Exerciser: This was simply a pair of bungee cords that would loop around the astronaut’s feet and grasped by the hand via a handle. Each astronaut would spend three ten-minute sessions each day exercising with this device to determine the utility of in-flight exercise to stave off the effects of prolonged weightlessness. A similar M-3 experiment was flown on the Gemini 4, 5 and 7 long-duration missions during 1965.

M-4A In-Flight Phonocardiogram: The purpose of this experiment was to produce in-flight recordings of the crew’s heartbeat to determine the effects of weightlessness on heart function. Grissom and Chaffee would be the subjects of these tests. This was similar to the M-4 experiment flown on the long-duration Gemini missions.
M-6A Bone Demineralization: The goal of this experiment was to determine the effects of weightlessness on the demineralization of certain bones in the body. This experiment required no special in-flight equipment and would rely on measurements derived from X-rays taken before and after the flight from all three crew members. Once again, this was similar to the M-6 experiment performed during the long-duration Gemini missions.
M-9A Human Otolith Function: The objective of this experiment was to determine the effect of prolonged weightlessness on an astronauts sense of orientation. Each crew member would spend 15 minutes each day in orbit wearing a set of test goggles with their responses recorded by a 16 mm movie camera. A similar experiment was conducted during the Gemini 5 and 7 missions.
M-11 Cytogenetic Blood Studies: This experiment sought to determine if the space environment produced cellular changes in the blood of the crew. No in-flight equipment was required with the necessary data coming from blood samples taken from all three crewmen at set intervals before and after the mission.
M-48 Cardiovascular Reflex Conditioning: In this experiment, one of the astronauts would don a set of vascular support tights one or two hours before the end of the mission to determine if such a garment helps prevent physical fatigue blood pooling in the lower body following return to Earth.
S-5A Synoptic Terrain Photography: This was similar to the S-5 experiment flown on most of the earlier Gemini missions. The crew would use a 70 mm Hasselblad camera to perform near nadir-viewing photography of the Earth during 9 AM to 3 PM local time. Two color film packs with a total of 110 exposures were to be carried on the Apollo 1 mission.

S-6A Synoptic Weather Photography: Similar to the S-6 experiment conducted on most of the Gemini missions, the purpose of this investigation was to provide orbital photographs of weather phenomena at a much higher resolution than was possible with contemporary weather satellites like NASA’s TIROS or Nimbus satellites. One color and one color-shifted infrared film packet along with an ultraviolet filter for the camera would be carried to support this experiment.
T-3 In-Flight Nephelometer: This experiment used a device to measure the size, concentration and distribution of particles present inside the CM cabin. Measurements would be made every six hours starting two days into the mission."

tell me about french train headlights
They're all the same! Or at least they were, from the mid-1950s to about the early 1990s. They all look like this:

Okay, some context for why I find this interesting. Suppose you see a picture of a train, especially one made in the second half of the 20th century, and you want to know where the train is from. The key trick to telling this at a glance is having a bit of autism, but more specifically, the headlights.
In Europe, all major and many minor countries used to have their own government-owned railroad and their own train-building industry, which would build trains to the specifications of their railroad company. There has always been some exporting going on, but for the most part, the trains you'd find in Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria and so on would be all completely different. This has changed drastically over the past 20ish years.
One thing about this old model is that railroad companies would standardise certain parts within their fleets, especially small parts that need servicing and replacing every now and then. It saves on how many different types of spare parts you need to have.
Headlights are the most notable among these by far: Every train needs to have some of them. All trains have basically the same requirements for their headlights, no matter how fast or slow or whatever they are. Before LEDs, you needed to service the headlights regularly to replace the light bulbs, and as glass parts at the front of a fast moving vehicle, they can get damaged, so spare parts logistics are an issue. And most importantly, we as railfans can easily see them. So you get something like this:

As a result, basically all railroad companies in post-war Europe standardised their head- and taillights for all or most of their trains. And all of them had completely different ideas. Fundamentally, all of them agreed that you need white headlights and red taillights, and since modern trains are easily reversible, you put both of them next to each other.
But do you make the white and red lights the same size (West Germany, Netherlands) or different sizes (Austria, East Germany)? Are they separate things, or do you combine them into one assembly (UK, Switzerland)? Do you make them anything approaching normal sized or gigantic (Poland)? Maybe I'll do an overview post over these later, but I don't have enough pictures in my library right now and I'd have to scour Wikipedia for them later.
The French headlight design shown here is in many ways just one of many, but also interesting in its own right: The actual lenses for red and white are the same size, but the white headlight gets this huge lens assembly that makes it look much more prominent. You can clearly see that different French designers had very different ideas about whether you the center-lines (most of them), or the bottom of the lens assembly. Why is the headlight lens so big, and what are the metal was around the bottom half of the circle? I have no clue. My guess is to put some coloured glass panes in, but I have no idea why you'd need that. Also, note that the red taillight classically has a fresnel lens, that's unique as far as I can tell.
I've taken all these pictures in the Cité du Train, the big central French railroad museum in Mulhouse. (That's why I was posting about traveling to Basel early this weekend. Mulhouse is actually really close to Basel, and going via Switzerland is the most practical—and most scenic—route for me) The oldest locomotive I could find with these headlights was CC-7107:

During high speed trails in the early 1950s, this locomotive reached a speed of 326 km/h (203 mph). That made it only second best behind the other locomotive at the trials, BB-9004:

This one reached 331 km/h (206 mph), a world record that would not be beaten for a long time. The difference was nothing to do with technical performance. Instead, both locomotives melted their pantograph, the part on top that touches the overhead line to get power, at around 320 km/h (200 mph). BB-9004 had a second one that it could lift up to continue accelerating, while CC-7107 only had the one. For a long time, SNCF pretended that both locomotives had reached 331 km/h, to protect the reputation of both manufacturers.
What's notable for our purposes is that BB-9004 has different headlights. As far as I can tell, these seem to be an earlier standard design, also found e.g. on the CC-65001 diesel locomotive:

So CC-7107 lost on the high speed world record, but it was the way of the future when it came to headlights. These headlights then started cropping up everywhere. From the detail pictures I've shown you above, we have e.g. Le Petit Gris (the small grey one, an EMU for suburban services in Paris):

A CC-6500, dressed up with a nameplate for the express train it was hauling. Fun fact: One locomotive of this type (not this one) was used in the US for a while, as Amtrak was trying out new electric locomotives to use. They weren't happy with it and bought a Swedish one instead, mostly because this locomotive's suspension did not work well with the American track quality.

It's from the 1980s, so I guess the first are reaching retirement age. But at the same time: The train I took from Basel to Mulhouse was still pulled by one of these BB-26000.

Fun fact: Amtrak did end up buying a few these. They didn't use the same white headlights (although they did use the same stalks), but they did use the same fresnel lens red taillights.
And the headlights went all the way up to the top. To the TGV. Only these headlights aren't very aerodynamic, so for their high-speed train, SNCF decided to cover them up.

As far as I can tell, SNCF used these headlights in the TGVs up to the Réseau series, including the Eurostar. That meant that they're also found, though behind faded glass, on the TGV Atlantique 325 in the outdoor area. Number 325 is notable because it was involved in another high speed trail, and reached 515.3 km/h (320.3 mph) on May 18th, 1990.

That was a world record, of course; in fact only the French ever exceeded 500 km/h on conventional railroads. So these headlights did get their world record after all. They didn't get to keep it for long, though. In 2007, a newer TGV reached 574.8 km/h (357.2 mph). That one is still in service, though, and it was equipped with newer LED headlights. I think it's highly unlikely that this record will be broken anytime soon, but if anyone does, I wouldn't be surprised if it were the French again, they like that sort of stuff.
Some final odds an ends with the headlights, though: Here's CC-40101, which isn't actually relevant, I just like the way it looks.

Designed for service in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, with four different voltages and four different train control systems, and that with mid-1960s technology. It wasn't quite as successful as hoped, and in service it only ever reached Belgium, but still, look at that design. The front is supposed to evoke an athlete, a sprinter about to start, but this type of design has instead become known as "Nez cassé", broken nose.
BB-9291 shows a rare early version without red tail lights at all. Someone thought they were saving money.

The design, in particular the side windows (recessed instead of flush, no outside visible gasket) says Swiss, the headlight and SNCF logo says French, it's narrow gauge and it has a third rail to provide power. Just all around a weird little train, for the weird little line known as the Mont-Blanc Express from France via Switzerland to the bottom of the Mont-Blanc mountain. The train was built in Switzerland, experts of building small trains for mountains, but for the French part of that rail line, so it got French headlights.
Headlights with exporting is a fun topic in its own right. Do you keep the headlights from the country of origin, or demand your own? You will find both approaches. Both Portugal and the Netherlands bought very similar electric locomotives from France. Portugal has French headlights, the Netherlands insisted on (less interesting) dutch ones.
These days, of course, you will still find these headlights, but they're getting rarer. They stopped being used in new trains around the mid-1990s. What's more, the ones you do find, like on this MI-84 in Paris, probably don't have the fresnel lens taillight anymore. Instead, those were replaced with LEDs.

LED lights for railroads make a lot of sense. They last forever and require less power. And since most railroads have standardised their head- and taillights, you just need to design one replacement light for most of France, and then keep building that one until SNCF stops giving you money.
(Since we're showing a picture from Paris, a quick note: These headlights were never used on passenger-carrying trains for the Paris metro. However, some work trains do have them.)
These days, standard headlights are completely gone. LEDs don't need a lot of replacing, and they give you much more freedom to do things like shapes and patterns and designs. Also, we don't have the "one country, one railroad, one rail industry" pattern anymore. Instead now we have multi-national rail conglomerates. Alstom is technically French, but arguably just as much German, ever since they bought Bombardier's rail division, nominally Canadian. Stadler is Swiss, except for the stuff they build in Germany or Poland or Belarus or Hungary or…, and some of their most interesting products right now are built and designed in Spain.

That's a company I saw at a trade fair (Innotrans, Berlin, 2022) that makes LED train headlights, and specifically they make… all of them? Okay, I'm exaggerating, but this is a great picture to drive a European rail fan insane as they try to assign the different headlights to different trains. You get Stuttgart trams, German (and Turkish) high speed trains, lots and lots of Swiss stuff. Nothing specifically French that I could tell, but at least the German high speed train regularly travels to Paris.
The standard headlights, or their LED variants, were still in use for work trains until fairly recently. There are not that many companies that make rail grinders or ballast tampers, and those tend to just use whatever headlight their customer tells them to. But these days they go for shaped LED headlights as well, because they're just better, and because thanks to European standardisation, a headlight approved in one country can (generally) be used in all European countries.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut coupé (1 of 2). 
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR (W 196 S) was a 2-seat sports racer that took part in the 1955 World Sportscar Championship before a catastrophic crash and fire at Le Mans later that year ended its domination prematurely. The car was designated “SL-R” (for Sport Leicht-Rennen, eng: Sport Light-Racing), which was later condensed to “SLR”. Technically, the W 196 S is based on the W 196 R, but has a slightly different engine, displacing 3 litres.
Just as the W 196 R Formula One racer’s M 196 R engine, the W 196 S’s M 196 S engine is a direct-injected 3-litre straight 8 engine (but with a 78 mm bore and stroke); its rated power is 276 PS (203 kW). The W 196 S’s monoposto driving position was modified to standard two-abreast seating, headlights were added, and a few other changes made to adapt a strictly track competitor to a 24-hour road/track sports racer. Two of the nine 300 SLR rolling chassis produced (nicknamed the “Uhlenhaut coupé”) were converted into 300 SLR/300 SL hybrids. Effectively road legal racers, they had coupé styling, gull-wing doors, and a footprint midway between the two models.
When Mercedes-Benz cancelled its racing programme after the Le Mans disaster, the hybrid project was shelved. Company design chief Rudolf Uhlenhaut, architect of both the 300 SLR racer and the hybrids, appropriated one of the leftover mules as his personal car. Capable of approaching 290 km/h (180 mph), the Uhlenhaut Coupé was by far the fastest road car in the world in its day.
Note: A 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé has become the most expensive car to ever be sold after being auctioned off for $142 million. The car, previously owned by Mercedes-Benz, was sold by RM Sotheby’s to an unknown collector.

Fluorite mines still exist in Japan, however they're far inland so the KoS can't make use of their boat routes for transport.
Fluorite is one of the first materials shown to fluoresce (=glow when light/EM radiation hits it), which is what the phenomenon was named after!

One of the major problems in improving telescope quality is getting rid of chromatic aberration, which can be improved by using lenses with a lower refractive index (such as those made of fluorite rather than glass). This bends the light less, leading to clearer magnification.

The rocket design is similar to cruise missiles, in that it uses a jet engine rather than a rocket engine. Cruise missiles will follow an almost direct path to their target, and have the ability to adjust direction at any point. Ballistic missiles cannot.

The Banana Canal seems to be how the villagers remember the name of the Panama Canal, which is odd because bananas only grow in the very south of Japan (if at all) so they're unlikely to have been familiar with them before reaching South America.

The Suez is a man-made canal that gets drained and cleared every 10 years so the boats can pass through unobstructed. The area has also been mostly desert for thousands of years. Sandstorms would soon fill it in, making it impassable.

What Ryusui is worried about here is probably similar to the Ever Given back in March, when winds ran it aground, blocking the whole canal. It had to be dug out to be freed, which the KoS can't do here. Turning around or backing up is also impossible if the canal is too narrow.

Senku always makes sure to number his rockets.
(I spent too long wondering if this was a pun, but the i-shi/stone pun is for 1-4, and "Dr. One" doesn't quite fit how "Dr. Stone" is pronounced…)

The rocket has two sets of controllers, one used by Senku on the ship and the other by Ryusui about half way to the dam. It's unlikely that this choice is due to range issues, as the cell phones worked 80 km apart and this is only 20 km.

The coordination between them is impressive!

India has likely been chosen as Math City because of its long history of mathematics dating back over 3000 years, before Europe had made similar advances. They invented many important concepts, such as negative numbers, the idea of zero, and decimal points.
The other option for India being Math City is that it has many natural resources useful for making computers and other electronics, however I think we'll have to wait until future chapters to see why they chose it!

Liftoff of Apollo AS-203 Saturn IB (SA-203) from Launch Complex 37 at 10:53 a.m., Kennedy Space Center."This was the second in the uprated Saturn 1 Development Mission Series. It carried no command and service module, as its purpose was to verify the design of the S-IVB rocket stage restart capability that would later be used in the Apollo program to boost astronauts from Earth orbit to a trajectory towards the Moon. It achieved its objectives, but the stage was inadvertently destroyed after four orbits."
