Battle Subway Depot Agents (Eli’s versions)

Overview: I recently found inspiration to complete my own versions of the Battle Subway’s six depot agents, because there’s almost nothing I enjoy more than shaping barely known characters into my scrunklies. 

Pokémon: The Pokémon listed are both their everyday companions and those used on the Battle Subway. With the exception of the Eeveelutions (which was just meant to be a fun bonus), every Pokémon comes from the potential options you can see on the Subway in-game.

Disclaimer: These designs are free to use, but please make sure to credit me properly (and perhaps tag me because that would make me so happy). I also ask you please make sure to not change their physical appearances (skin tone, hair color, etc.) or pronouns.

Contemplating esoteric oc worldbuilding concepts casually is very fun

Like the permeability (and permenant nature) of the soul and it's relationship with magic, the malieability of form and expression that comes from the extreme mixing of the two (and the rigidity that has to remain else the soul be unmade), how that influences my creatures (echoes) that are 95% magic and 5% the soul of who they used to be basically a pattern or circuit that got so used to being it takes a while longer to unwind from its groove

Then on to magic vs the sense of self (specific to each person despite type or system of magic), two characters that have undergone similar (to a point) mutating processes but who have two different views on their magic & how it changing affects them (one seeing it as a core change, that this alteration has shifted something intrinsic to her and nothing can be the same; the other having a distanced view, this mutation has occurred and can't be reversed but seeing it as a biological thing that no more impacts her as a person than any other mundane life event) and why-

"Issue #28: Viscera, Shiny In the Light of Day"

This absolute monster of an issue is one I've been incredibly excited to get to for months now. Deepdark is a very important character, as the primary antagonist, and he's finally gotten a real spotlight on him. At this point I'm really just writing original xenofiction too, which is fun. Yeah, this a Warrior cats story, you're getting a deer murder cult and you'll be happy with it.

One thing that I think it important to make clear is that Longest-Claws was not the "leader of Defiance before Deepdark". He was the leader of a group that Deepdark took inspiration from and poached several of its members, but Defiance is entirely Deepdark's creation.

Also, it's nice to finally reveal that Lingonberry is just Deepdark's original name! He took on 'Deepdark' after he killed Longest-Claws. Although they are not separate characters, I'll be tagging posts that refer to Deepdark's past with just 'Lingonberry' so as to not spoil any future readers who may be looking through the tag.

The animals featured in the big panels on page 2 and page 9 are cameos from the PATFW Discord, many of which are Defiance fan-characters. All of the characters and their respective creators will be tagged under the cut.

Anne Baxter was part of my Bisexual Awakening. My family has a tradition that every Palm Sunday we watch The ten commandments on TV together... And starting from a very young age, I essentially developed a crushes on Anne Baxter's Nefertiri & Yul Brynner's Ramses. Dude, the woman was HOT! They both were! My crush definitely wasn't helped by the fact that Anne Baxter's costumes were a bit on the sheer side. She had a way of capturing you with her eyes, and I never understood why Charlton heston's Moses didn't just have a threesome with Nefertiri and Ramses. LOL

you guys. you guys you guys. i think i know what i want from the final season of the penumbra podcast. i have spent the past ten minutes pacing around my room. yesterday i read up to chapter 17 of prydon's fic separate but syncopated (https://archiveofourown.org/works/30943430/chapters/76417991) which let's be honest, you've probably read already. it's phenomenal. if you haven't, you should.

so i've been thinking. i just really want to go back to brahma. i want to go back to brahma and take down the guardian angel system.

the thing is, the junoverse is a very character driven storyline, and i love that about it. the second citadel is more event driven i think, and it was more difficult for me to get into that storyline and stick with it (i'm weak i'm sorry). for example, although the first season focuses a lot on juno solving the whole martian artefact doodah, back then the penumbra crew were still finding their feet.

then junoverse season 2 happened, and the entire point of that season was basically "get juno over his trauma" (that's why it was so long oh my god). sure, there was a whole plot with ramses and the theia souls, but i think we can all agree that was secondary to juno's character development.

next, season 3. season 3 is definitely character driven, you literally can't deny it. it focuses on each member of the carte blanche in turn, and it uses the plot, finding the curemother prime, as a secondary tool to further the true point of the season: getting to know the characters.

season 4 i'm a little less certain about because i'm typing this post straight into tumblr fresh out of my brain (if anyone wants to help out with the analysis i'd love that). but i think the point of season 4 is to test and showcase the bonds of the carte blanche with each other, and juno rescuing them all is not only a good story, but also a good way to show off the relationships they built in season 3. his relationship with nureyev is shown through periodic reading of the journal, and juno's copious inner monologues (i say like i'm one to talk when all of these thoughts are swirling around in my own head).

then, season 5. the point of this season mirrors that of season 2, but this time, we need to get nureyev over his trauma. this is way trickier, because we're not inside nureyev's head, we're still in juno's. it's still character driven because the aim is to help nureyev, but the plot is given by juno having to chase him across the galaxy. hence, juno's hesitation when he finally finds nureyev.

well, steel, you've caught him. now what the hell are you going to do with him?

there is no plot to drive the character study anymore. our goal was to help nureyev, and juno (poor juno) has done all he can. the ball falls squarely into nureyev's court now, and juno has no say in the plot of the rest of the story. this is why i have been chewing myself alive since the last episode — we know what's next for the characters emotionally, but we have absolutely zero idea what's happening next plot-wise. it's killing me.

OH WAIT I'VE GOT IT. so. since our whole thing for this season is helping nureyev, and we all want him to go batshit fucking insane, i really want nureyev to go back to brahma, and finish what he started two decades ago. i think it's the perfect circular story arc to keep them occupied while nureyev heals emotionally from the fallout from everything going on with slip.

also, sorry to get real for a second, but i've just been tearing myself apart being morally outraged at the world we live in, and the fact that i'm barely able to do anything about it. maybe one day i could, but until then, it would be nice to see my favourite space gays set an example.

now, i know there's complications with this. nureyev refused to take the guardian angel system down in the first place because of the damage it would cause, and i'm willing to bet he hasn't excised that moral core just yet, no matter how hard he's trying. but i'm sure they can find a way to make it work. they have rita, after all!!

they're definitely hinting at a homecoming arc for juno. i think nureyev needs one too, is all.

Depot Agents Information Post (Part 2)

This is the second half of my introductions to my Gear Station Depot Agents. Get to know them better along with their individual quirks. 

Jackie:

-Jackie is a cisgender woman, uses she/her pronouns, and is a lesbian. She is also 5′8″ (173cm) tall.

-Jackie tends to talk very little in general. She’s often so quiet that people won’t know that she’s entered a room until she makes some kind of noise.

-Jackie’s background is mysterious and very hard to verify. While she’s undoubtedly an orphan, it’s not certain if her claims of being abandoned at the Gear Station and then having never left since then are true.

-Jackie can sometimes get lost in her own thoughts to the point where she forgets to initiate battles with people riding the subway, She always makes sure to apologize for it.

-Jackie cares for her coworkers and others a great deal, but she’s not very good at expressing it. She tends to do better by showing this through actions such as keeping the Subway clean, though her actions can sometimes be strange.

-Despite people’s best efforts to find anything on Jackie, no records of her life have ever been able to be located by anyone. It’s also unknown where she lives.

-Jackie can sometimes be heard humming or singing songs strange songs that don’t sound Unovan in origin. Guests to the Subway can sometimes identify them, though it can’t de declared she’s from any particular region.

-Similarly to Ingo and Emmet, Jackie’s eyes seem to illuminate in the dark sort of akin to train headlights. They think it’s hilarious.

-Jackie possesses psychic abilities that allow her to make short-term prophecies about future events. Though no one really understands it, all of her coworkers have learned to take her seriously. 

Isadore:

-Isadore is a demiman, uses he/him and they/them pronouns, and is bisexual. He is also 6′0″ (183cm) tall.

-Isadore is a very blunt person to the point of sometimes being mean, and they don’t always care about the difference. However, they will straighten themselves out if told to do so by superiors.

-Isadore brags about his battle prowess, but he does genuinely have the skills to back up his claims. 

-Isadore is a sore loser and can also get fussy if their plans are thrown off schedule.

-Isadore does work very hard in regards to his job and will make sure that no task is left unfinished at the end of each day.

-Isadore cares a great deal about the appearances of both themselves and their Pokémon, and will often wake up early to make sure they all look good before the start of each new day.

-Isadore is probably the most skilled of the depot agents in regards to Pokémon battling, only being second to Ingo and Emmet themselves. However, his attitude and mannerisms often cause this aspect of him to be overlooked.

-Isadore is actually a very big fan of Pokémon musicals, but will deny it to hell and back. They get touchy when people suggest they take up participation in that field instead.

-While Isadore is generally healthy, people will sometimes voice concern for his health due to how skinny he looks. However, he insists he’s fine and brushes the subject off.

Ramses:

-Ramses is a cisgender man, uses he/him pronouns, and is gay. He is also 5′10″ (178cm) tall. -Ramses has worked at the Gear Station for over two decades and has gained a reputation as a diligent and polite worker. -As a young man, Ramses took care of a young Ingo and Emmet for about a year after the deaths of their parents so that they could remain in Nimbasa City until they started their Pokémon journeys. -Ramses is often thought to be too nice for his own good, struggling to always handle discipline on the subway. However, he’s noted to be quite terrifying when angered, so it’s not good for people to test his limits too much. -Ramses never had much ambition for his life and has been satisfied with his job at the Gear Station for years. Out of all the depot agents, he’s probably the most satisfied with his life overall. -Ramses has a husband and two children of his own. He’s also by far the best depot agent to deal with children overall. -Ramses is an amazing cook and will sometimes bring meals for all of his coworkers to share and enjoy. No one complains and they all make sure to thank him for his efforts. -Ramses is way more into sports than he might seem, and can commonly be found at Big Stadium or Small Court on his days off. -Ramses is one of the only people working at the Battle Subway who has a driver’s license. He tends to carpool everyone home during times of bad weather.
