courtney love + paul rudd on the set of 200 cigarettes. 1998.
"this photo was taken on day 1 of our shoot of 200 cigarettes. we started with paul and courtney in bed for what would be one of our final scenes in the movie. we were all really nervous and awkward and tense. and everyone was smoking a lot of cigarettes. even me-who didn’t smoke- but the movie was called 200 cigarettes so why not smoke till we gagged, just to push through our fears?"

Hello Tumblr and anyone unfortunate enough to read this!
This past weekend I was able to close off number three of the "big four" crushes I had as a teenager. I wish I had spent a little more time talking to Christina Ricci but she was also very "on" and very present in the moment, which was hard for me to wrap my head around (as I tend to live in my head). She was lovely, don't get me wrong, but there is this immense surreal aura over suddenly (and I mean that literally! its very sudden!) meeting someone you've only seen on television or the movies. But with her: what you see is what you get. The Ricci you see in interviews is who she is when shes talking to the public. My brain just sees it all as a weird disconnect somehow?
I got a photo op with her too. My friend said it looked like a homecoming dance photo, with her broad smile and my slight but obvious nervousness. I later got her to sign the above photo from 200 Cigarettes and the Speed Racer poster (see below). (Random statement of self: I get all mushy and glowy when a woman "pops" their eyes like in the above photo. No idea why, so don't ask.)
Would I like a do-over? Absolutely. Mostly because - and this is no fault of Rhode Island ComiCon or the people running the photo op - conventions are such a meat wagon. Its just go go go and sometimes you need to pause to catch yourself. Earlier this summer I got a photo op with Lance Henriksen, who stopped everyone in line to talk - 5, 10, 15 seconds maybe - and despite the dismay of the photography people yelling at us, everyone took great and very relaxed photos (myself included! Its one of the few times I liked how it turned out). I wish this was more the case than the usual calling out of NEXT to keep the line going. Admittedly, Ricci did stop me to say "Good morning!" and then said "So nice to meet you" with that broad smile and - Jesus, that old crush was absolutely on point.
7/10 experience with a 10/10 person

This ensemble comedy follows an array of young people in New York City on New Year's Eve. Among the numerous characters looking for love and fun are impulsive artist Ellie (Janeane Garofalo) and punks Tom (Casey Affleck) and Dave (Guillermo Diaz), who meet up with Stephie (Gaby Hoffmann) and Val (Christina Ricci), two girls from Long Island. Also interacting with various partygoers are a pensive bartender (Ben Affleck) and a taxi driver (Dave Chappelle) who operates a disco in his cab.
