sorry i’ve just stumbled across your blog after reading one of your lashton fics, but is it just me or is this fandom very y/n fic focused… (people say rpf is bad when y/n is RIGHT THERE) anyways from an outside view (i don’t want to be rude!) this fandom i think struggles with the fic fests and things because there are no “main” ships, if that makes sense. idk sorry you’re an amazing artist and it makes me sad you aren’t able to participate in all the fests you want!

so!! thank u for popping by!! im now going to disagree with pretty much everything you've just said!!

so, first and foremost, yes, I do think we have a large x reader population here (as is the nature of any rpf-based fandom) but I dont think that relates at all to fic fests, especially considering that none of the fic fests I've even seen done in this fandom have allowed x readers to participate.

And also, please don't come into my inbox talking shit about other writers ever, it's not cool <3 x reader is no less valid than slash fic <3 and it is quite simply just a matter of personal preference. No matter what, people are writing what makes them happy, and it's pretty shitty to talk down to it.

second - as I have said a plethora of times now - this fandom struggles with fic fests currently because of the lack of writers/readers and engagement. No other reason.

The fact that we don't have a main ship is actually what has, in the past, made fic fests so accessible and fun for everyone!! because we all get to write what we want!! and having no main ship actually inspires MORE community, not less.

third, I appreciate the concern for me but also I'm totally fine not doing fic fests! i don't really like putting deadlines on my writing, in truth, especially when im so busy in other areas of my life rn. Ive just been getting a lot of asks about it lately from other people expressing interest (which has really thrown me for a loop tbh lol) and I've been explaining why there aren't any being hosted right now.

HOWEVER, if someone wanted to host a fic event, i see no reason why they couldn't. No one's actively stopping them. It's just a matter of... would anyone want to join if they did host it? and, based on the interest form one of our previous fic hosts made earlier this year, the answer is no!! no one really has the time or motivation these days!! and that's just how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

this winter i will be hosting the first 5sos slash fic trope/themed prompt fest!  basically, writers and spectators alike can submit different prompts for a particular trope or theme, and writers will get to pick from that list and write a fic!  writing will begin in mid-late october and fics will post at the end of december

Any recommendations on some good 5sos fics/one shots? I’ve been struggling to find new works that are good.

I'm gonna be honest with you, I haven't read 5sos fanfiction in a while, like the last fic I read was 'do you believe in miracles' back in April when @carouselstars finished posting it, if you like slash and sport romances I highly recommend that one, but I really haven't read anything in a really long time, so I can't really help. And are you looking for slash? OC's? x reader? I have a few of each of those saved in case you want to be more specific.

i dont say this to be rude at all but have some of y’all considered that the reason slash writers keep our stuff on ao3/tumblr is because we want to separate the content we’re creating from the actual people we’re writing about and talking about our work on public platforms where 5sos can see them was never our intention? there’s a legitimate reason I’m not talking about my fics on twitter or instagram (because they’re pretty much the only social media 5sos actively use) so can you guys please respect that decision and not openly publicize my work in places I didn’t originally intend it to be?

set before his betrayal. situationship luke x reader. you know something is going on with luke, but is so in love with him that you refuse to acknowledge it until it's too late. luke comes to you, begging you to go with him, and you finally see luke for what he's about to become. you recoil from him (luke falls apart at this) and he leaves, defeated.

"what are you doing, luke?" you asked. the cabin was dark, the slivers of moonlight peeking in through the half-opened door where luke stood. "what happened to you?"

luke was standing in front of you, a slash across his abdomen, not deep enough to be critical but deep enough to draw blood. droplets of it stained the cabin floors. his eyes were blown wide, curls tussled in all different directions. he dropped his sword and rushed over to you, grabbing your face in his hands. he placed his forehead against yours, "come with me, y/n. let's leave. he has a plan for us."

the comfort you had with his erratic breaths flashed away in a hurry. you pulled away, eyebrows threaded together in thought, "who is he? luke, you're scaring me."

in his unstable state, he didn't notice your small steps away from him. he was looking behind him constantly as if waiting for a crowd of people to burst through the door behind him. ready and willing to take him away.

"kronos," he said, so casually you thought you'd heard him wrong. he began to explain. his words sounded so rehearsed. so pristine. it was clear that this has been in the works for far too long.

and it was too late.

"luke, no," you replied, shaking your head. you backed into a dresser, hissing at the stabbing pain in your lower back. you were cornered.

he picked up his sword again, taking up a fighting stance unconsciously. you flinch as he walks towards you. he pauses. luke looks down at his hand holding his sword. for a moment you saw a flicker of hesitation in his eyes as he studied himself in the reflection. the light illuminated the side of his face, the scar so prominent, so glaring like a reminder of why he was pushed into becoming this.

he looks up at you again, "i would never hurt you."

"i don't think that's true anymore, luke."

his response was cut off by the sound of panic outside. his time is up. and he failed. somehow this failure, the failure of getting you to join him, to trust him, to love him to the point of betrayal, was the most bitter failure he'd experienced.

luke looked at you, trying to commit the memory of your face in his mind as if you weren't going to remain burned into his soul forever.

best friends to lovers!!!!! super touchy, feely friendship between luke and the reader. you're always so flustered after cuddling or when he'd kiss your cheek or give you hugs from behind, but he's so oblivious to your reactions.

one day some ares kid starts flirting with you and you decide it's time to move on from luke anyway because it was getting pathetic. so you start hanging out with the ares kid (who's actually so so so kind and sweet; in another life you'd be in love with him but in this one, luke has you completely) you and the ares kid become super good friends, like besties and 4lifers. (ares kid: y/n maybe you shouldn't let him be so touchy with you. you're never gonna get over him if you keep this up.) you begrudgingly agreed. you start pulling away from luke when he gets touchy and this makes luke :(!!!!!

the nail to the coffin was when he saw you in the ares kid's clothes. you were only supposed to wear HIS clothes. he decides enough is enough.

that night he knocks on your cabin door while everyone is out at the campfire (he knows you hate it bc you smell like smoke for days) and he's seeing red because he hates the ares kid (he doesn't actually, he's just super jealous) and he missed you so much (even though it's only been two weeks since this whole thing started).

he walks in and he's already ranting and he's not even looking at you because he's so ???!!!! then he finally looks at you and he sees that you're wearing his shirt and the ares kid's sweater is nowhere to be found. (you only borrowed it during dinner because you spilled ketchup on your shirt) luke smiles for the first time in days.

he tells you to dump the ares kid and you start laughing and explain the whole situation to him. luke is SUPER embarrassed for being so dramatic but it ends in a cute confession and lots of kisses.

a/n → can i be honest. i have been on a trip recently and this has been the only thing on my mind. literally in pieces over it. also i wrote this in like 25 minutes so absolutely nothing is proofread and you guys are getting this as is enjoy stay warm uhhh. horanghae

“Aren’t you cold up here?” 

Soonyoung’s voice almost gets carried away by the wind, but it manages to reach you somehow. You turn around to look at him, briefly, watch for a moment as he walks closer to you. Pulling the sleeves of your new puffer jacket down to cover your hands, you shrug.

“A little,” you say when he gets close enough. His nose is already red from the cold. “The view’s worth it, though.”

It is, truly. The skyline of an unfamiliar city is more beautiful than anything you’ve ever seen, yellow and blue lights from windows twenty stories high gleaming in the dark. The bridges reaching across the water from one part of the city to the other glow over the barely visible waves. It’s cold, but not bitter. You’re thankful for your hotel’s rooftop access.

“Wah,” Soonyoung says, like he’s just noticing the lights around the both of you. You snort at him. “You’re right, it’s so pretty.”

The two of you stand in silence for a moment, taking in the distant sounds of police sirens and car horns. It’s peaceful, somehow, ambient all the way up here. You feel wistful thinking about the nature of things – on a barely-planned, week long trip with your neighbor slash friend from college. The timing was the least impulsive part about it, despite it being two weeks before finals start rolling out; the calm before the storm, maybe.

With no itinerary and no clue about what was even available to you in the city, you’ve spent your time gently and without any rush. Too many things to do, so might as well just go for the things that seem the most interesting. 

“Hey, look over here for a second,” Soonyoung calls suddenly, and you wonder when he got so far away. You turn a little to see him halfway back to the stairwell door, his phone pointed at you. You blink, but offer a little smile for one picture and a cute pose for another. 

“How long were you taking pictures of me?” You ask, jokingly interrogative. Soonyoung smiles, shrugs, scrolls through a few in his camera roll as he walks back up to you.

“Long enough,” he responds, then, looking at you, “you looked pretty. I wanted to capture it.”

Oh, you think, blinking at him. He smiles, but you can practically feel him start to get nervous at your lack of words. “I see,” you say. “Thank you.”

And maybe it doesn’t have to mean what you think it does, maybe it could mean something sweet and friendly. Something kind and a safe distance away.

But maybe it’s something close and gentle. Something warm and romantic. With just the two of you here…

“You didn’t happen to bring any hot packs up with you, did you?” You ask suddenly, feeling the chill of nervousness start to reach you. You shiver when a breeze flows by.

Soonyoung shakes his head. “No. Should I go get some? I think I brought some with me, they’re just in my suitcase –”

“No,” you interject. Your face feels warm despite the cold, and you think of introducing yourself as his neighbor, and then seeing him on campus the following Monday. You think of his big, eager grin and all the times he’s come over for dinner because you cook so much better than him. “Just, uh. Give me your hand?”

Soonyoung is notoriously a little slow, but he must catch onto you quick, because he grins that big, eager grin and holds your hand, wrapping his fingers around yours gently. It’s impractical, does little to actually keep either of your guys’ hands warm, but you think both of you know and neither of you care.

Besides. With a view this pretty, you can’t even feel the cold.
