Hen drives to the firehouse, and changes her mind with every stoplight she hits.

Red light. Maybe this is an overreaction. 

Green light. Bobby and Athena need help. 

Red light. Cruise ships are built to withstand the weather, and the Uno had turned away from the storm. The Coast Guard has to be aware of the storm by now, and they’ll be on high alert for any distress. 

Every rational thought points to everything being fine.

But—the light turns green, Hen hits the gas, and she remembers a sunny afternoon six years ago. Then, too, every rational thought had pointed to everything being fine, until she and Buck had found Bobby passed out cold. 

There’s just one nagging thought at the back of her mind. 

“Hey, Siri,” she says, slowing down at yet another red light. “Call Karen.” 

“What did Maddie say?” Karen asks as soon as she picks up. Her voice is concerned, and Hen loves her for it. Karen, at least, understands.

“Am I overreacting?” Hen asks instead of answering. The question had been building so long it needed to escape. 

“Tell me what Maddie said first,” Karen says. “I can’t answer without all the information.”

“She thinks something happened,” Hen says. “She called the local 911 down in Mexico, apparently they got a bunch of calls from the ship that all dropped.” 

“Sure sounds like something happened,” Karen says. “So, you’re going out there?” She sounds the way she always does when Hen is about to run headfirst into danger, proud and terrified all at once.

“I—” Hen says, her fingers gripping the steering wheel. “I was going to, but I ran into Chief Simpson.” 

“Oh,” Karen says, then, “oh no, he didn’t fire you?”

“No,” Hen says. “Just told me to get back to work. I told him about the ship, but he just said it’s not in our jurisdiction.” 

“Oh,” Karen says again. There’s a humming on the line like she’s about to say something else, but she stays silent and lets Hen gather her thoughts.

“Is he right?” she asks, after another few seconds of silence. “Am I making the wrong call again?”

“What do you mean again?” Karen asks. “Didn’t you just say he told you to go back to work? That means you made right call, doesn’t it?”

“Just because it wasn’t wrong doesn’t mean it was right,” Hen says. “It was—Karen, I honestly don’t know what it was.”

“We don’t need to figure that out right now,” Karen says. “Do you think going after Bobby and Athena is the right call?” 

Hen takes a breath. One second stretches into two, then five, and still, she doesn’t answer.

“Hen,” Karen says. “What does your instinct say?” 

“Something is wrong,” Hen says. “I know it is. And the ocean may not be part of the LAFD’s jurisdiction, but Bobby and Athena are my jurisdiction.” 

“Then go get ‘em,” Karen says. “But, Hen?” 

“Yeah?”

“Come home to me.” Karen’s voice doesn’t shake, but Hen knows that’s only thanks to years and years of practice.

“I will,” Hen says. “I promise.” 

By the time she hits the red light around the corner from the firehouse, Hen is certain that she’s made the right decision. She might have forgotten it for a moment, but she trusts her instincts. 

The only uncertainty remaining is how she’s going to convince the rest of the team to accompany her, with nothing but a map of ships off the California coast and a bad gut feeling to go off.

But when she walks into the app bay, Chimney, Eddie, and Buck are lined up and waiting for her.

“Get changed and let’s go,” Eddie says. “Chopper’s on the way.”

Hen blinks. “How did you—”

“Maddie called,” Chimney says, brandishing his phone. “So I called Tommy, called in a favour.”

“Don’t you still owe him from last time?” Buck asks, and Chimney frowns.

“Well techincally—”

“We can settle it on the way,” Hen says, before the two of them can really start bickering, but her heart feels like it grows a size with every half-jogged step towards the locker room.

Bobby and Athena are their jurisdiction, and they’re on their way.

justice for sam

If the spnepisodebracket craze has shown us anything, it's that the supernatural fanbase is extremely divided, with the lowly sam stan seemingly at the bottom of the pile. sam is always last in polls, so this is a bracket for the 10% or so who always votes for him. because yeah, there's 327 episodes of Supernatural, but how many are popular because of a dean or destiel moment? how many good episodes are drowned out because they focus on sam?

i've chosen, with some crowdsourced peer review (special thanks to @spneveryseason, @suncaptor, and @ambersock!) 125 episodes that are Sam Relevant. Some are extremely sam-centric, some just have a shot where sam looks like he's being crucified that gives me brain worms -- i tried to be generous about it to keep a relatively even seasons distribution! matchups will be random and polls will last 24 hours each. in the tradition of @spnepisodebracket (who this is obviously inspired by and would not be possible without!) i'll try to rb a gifset for every episode in the poll!

a final note: no this is not that serious but the criteria for voting here should be how good the episode is as a SAM episode, not as anything else, so please vote accordingly! i am making this for people who actually enjoy sam and if that is not you, then this is not the poll for you!

Mea culpa I have been neglecting Columbo posting, the cancer treatment, you know how it is (I hope you don't!!!!), but found that earlier I did take numerous notes on my favorite episode of Season 7, obviously the one about the food

Columbo 7x02 'Murder Under Glass'

A rare case (lol) where I recognized the M*A*S*H side actors by name in the opening credits: Mako, missed u, and brother Alda!

Holy shit they're making him play actually Italian

What I love about Antony Alda is that he is <3 such a bad actor

If Columbo was coming to my Italian restaurant to solve the death of my restaurateur I would offer him minestrone!

Columbo has interacted with “other” Italians twice and both times it’s been so crazy. Who is this man. Why is he cradling Antony Alda’s lil face.

This episode is peak for me. So many chefs keep bringing Columbo exquisite, appalling 1970s haute cuisine, and he’s so excited, and KNOWS WHAT ALL THIS STUFF IS, and again it is literally eggs in aspic.

Visiting the Supernatural shooting locations Part 2

On our final day, we did Deer Lake and Riverview as the main viewing points.

The thing y'all gotta keep in mind is that there are so many locations, that we drove by countless of them just driving around, so I'm not showing you most of what I saw because I didn't get pictures of it all and also because tumblr wouldn't allow me to post so many photos.

That spot that's highlighted in Riverview? They shot 1x05, 1x10, 1x13, 1x18, 2x01, 2x19, 3x15, 4x06, 4x09, 4x13, 4x16, 5x04, 5x11, 6x10, 6x21, 7x02, 7x03, 7x10, 7x17, 7x21, and 10x09 there.

And that's just one building in Riverview.

It's a beautiful park and we got really lucky with the weather and it only poured rain for half of one day. Even with the bright light, it felt very creepy and I can only imagine how it would look and feel with fog or on a cloudy day. There were a lot of signs warning people not to enter the building or stay on the premises after dark.

A lot of the finale was filmed around Deer Lake. Unfortunately, the Burnaby Village Museum was closed because apparently it's only open to the public in the summer. We weren't able to visit there, but we were able to visit several other filming sites.

One of the things I noticed is that often episodes are filmed in clumps. For example, Regarding Dean was filmed in a few locations, but they grouped together the filming at the various locations to make it easier to film. The restaurant they went to was the Denny's near the motel they went to.

At this Deer Lake location, they filmed multiple scenes from the finale Sam playing catch with son, Dean's funeral pyre, the tree scene, the house the vamps broke into, Sam going for a run, and the pie scene, plus scenes from other episodes.

We found the tree where Baby was parked

which was in a slightly different location than the map said, but close enough that we found it easily. This place looked so different

But we're at a different time of the year and we're visiting 14 years later, so it's probably due to that.

One thing that I forgot to mention on the earlier post is that while Bobby's house is gone, the junkyard is still standing and an active business.

We had read online that the owner is very friendly, but it felt kinda awkward going in there and taking photos while people are hard at work. There's a giant dog that barks at you when you walk in.

One place I wanted to visit, but didn't get to was the Spur 4 Bridge where the finale ended.

There's a few shooting locations up there including the spot where Sam and Dean split up in 5.02 and the purgatory scenes in s15, but the Spur 4 Bridge is a hike since it's on a private road. Most people access it through the Fisherman's Trail

Although it's rated as easy here, someone who hiked it recently said that due to a rockslide, bring boots. You can also bike around it.

Since it was such a long hike, I decided to save it for next visit, when I'll plan a whole day around it. I also want to visit the place where they defeat Chuck, which is up in Minaty Bay and visit the area south of Richmond where they filmed Mystery Spot and several BM scenes.

As for getting around in general, the city of Vancouver is very bikeable and there's different bike rental options available. I don't know about transporting them between locations, but you can do this section by bike easy

We had a car, which enabled us to travel to a wide variety of sites and visit locations such as the Lulu Trestle (1x07, 3x07, 4x03, 4x13, 9x14, 12x22, 15x18).

Now you can get to the Trestle by public transportation, but it'll take you an hour from Burnaby Village Museum by bus versus a 16 minute drive. If you don't have access to a car, I'd focus my visit on the cities. At one point, we split up and I took the Sky Train from Burnaby to Westminster and it was very safe and easy. I also took a few buses to get to and from various locations. Vancouver was, in my experience, a very clean, safe city, with lots of public restrooms. Just don't continue going east of Gastown. There may be other parts that are unsafe, so if you are unsure, send me a PM and I can tell you exactly where we went.

I also recommend Salmon n'Bannock, which is an Indigenous restaurant that had some of the best food I've ever had.

Hope this helps! It was an amazing experience and I highly recommend that you visit. I'd pick out your favorite places before you arrive because there's so many places and it can get overwhelming looking at the map!

Why in your polls do you never include season 7? I get it, you may not like it, but your polls are inaccurate without it. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean others can't. Give it a chance to be voted on like the rest.

Great question nonny! (And a fair one to ask, I'm pretty consistent LOL 😅)

For some of the polls, like the 'best #X episode' they're related to this year's rewatch: which is planned to run to 6x13. So it makes sense for those to omit anything after that.

But honestly: 9/10 times it's just because I don't like talking about that season 🤷‍♀️

I'm always down for a sidebar discussion on how brilliant 7x02 was (The Garden 😭), or how John and Emori were MADE for their leadership roles on Sanctum and I wanted years more of that on screen✨. I really enjoyed Dev's scenes and Echope's dynamic and giving Gabriel a found family... but the rest of the season? Watching live was a really unpleasant experience for me, and I don't get a lot of joy from rehashing it.

There could be S7 polls eventually? And I'll happily participate in other blogs' should they pop up on my feed ☺️ But you likely won't find a lot of that season's content on my page.

It bums me out, and I prefer to celebrate the parts of the show I really enjoyed watching

Can you analyse Stefan’s reaction to D: “She (Lily) has Elena” in 7x02?

I think he was pissed at Damon for getting Elena taken. It's the same reaction as to when he found that Damon killed Malcolm and started the whole mess

Damon then proceeds to say that Katherine, sorry, Lily, is playing them off of each other and they have to remain united. That speech is more in reference to the fact that Lily also took Caroline, ("she's taking all of our toys") and Stefan was mad at him for that but I also don't think it's a stretch to say that Stefan was mad at him for Elena being taken as well and was just generally upset that Lily took her.

On another note, I'm going down memory lane.

When I watched it in real time, first I said, if Elena had been kidnapped, Stefan wouldn't have been as nonchalant as he was with Caroline. I also said that Stefan didn't have that much of a strong reaction until he found out that Elena had been kidnapped and I got into a back and forth with a Steroline shipper because they were like Stefan is clearly not nonchalant, he's just not crying like a little girl and he put his faith in Damon to help Caroline out and that's his fatal flaw and when he does have a strong reaction it's not because of his undying love for Stupid Elena it's because he's upset that Lily is taking everything they care about and then provided screenshots of different ways that Stefan wasn't nonchalant

so I explained (this was when I was still trying to hold out hope for SC since I had been shipper)

As I said, I think the writers want to show that Caroline and Stefan are independent characters who don’t need each other and simply want each other and Stefan knows she can take care of herself, which would be an interesting dynamic to explore. I don’t deny the intent, I just don’t think it’s being done as well as the beginning of season 6. I’m not saying he’s indifferent, I’m just saying that to me, he doesn’t seem as moved as he did with Elena. So no, it isn’t rocket science.

and then they said they found earlier seasons Stefan more stoic and we agreed to disagree.

Returning to the episode now, I'm like, yeah I stick by what I said. Stefan is clearly supposed to care about Caroline, he's clearly supposed to be interested in Caroline, that's the story but he would not do any of these things if he was written with Elena

When Elena was in trouble, Stefan did not entertain Damon. Maybe he would plead with him

maybe he would be like, we are storming the fucking castle

but unless they're on their actual way to getting Elena, he's not being glib and waiting around for Damon to do something while reading a map as a backup plan, he's in action.

This was Stefan when he found out Damon tried to kiss Elena

and this is Stefan when the woman he's meant to love now is stuck in a house being tortured

should we not be getting this energy?

The Whole Jon, Arya, Sansa connection

I've said it before, that I believe Arya was meant to be a stand-in for Jon, to be the other Stark (second wolf) who Sansa could run things with. Arya was Sansa's sword in 7x07 (and because of the crypt scene in 7x02, it's a good bet had Jon been present, he would have executed Littlefinger himself), and naturally it was up to the last 4 Starks to save House Stark and the North.

But I was rewatching the scene from 8x04 where Jon is about to have Bran tell Arya and Sansa the truth about himself and it hit me, they really did do that.

When mentioning they need to swear to never tell another soul, Jon looks to Sansa first:

There are a few different reasons this could be: Jon knows Sansa is the one that would be most impacted aka in danger if she doesn't keep it secret (since Dany specifically said she didn't want Sansa to know), Sansa will be the one to blow the whistle, he's worried about her reaction the most (since we know how much stock he puts into her opinion), etc.

He only looks to Arya at the end of his statement. Sansa looks to Arya who is looking back at her. Then Arya asks what it is. Jon tells her she needs to swear before he tells her. Sansa then asks how he can expect her to swear to keep it secret when she doesn't even know what the secret is. Jon tells her it's because they're family (which is exactly what he told Dany they were to him as well).

Considering that he is most worried about Sansa here when it comes to this information, I found it odd that while he and Sansa have that stare down, he then turns to Arya and makes her swear first. When she swears, then and only then does he turn to Sansa and makes her swear.

So that kind of threw me because Sansa was the one he was most worried about. Until it finally hit me:

Two private reunions (where Sansa is mentioned in 8x01 by Jon and Arya sticks up for her showing they're united)

Where we see Jon struggling on Rhaegal's back due to the NK using his storm bullshit, then Arya arming Sansa and sending her to the (allegedly) safest spot during the battle. Jon and Arya fight in the battle and Sansa ends up fighting her own battle in the crypt (though they cut that scene - I will never understand why but then they kept the out-of-nowhere Dany sword fight in). Arya kills the NK.

Jon is fighting in The Last War while Arya is stuck in it and trying to flee. Arya went there to kill Cersei and Jon went there with Dany's men to overthrow (aka kill) Cersei. Sansa is not in this episode but we do get the scene above. A lot of people have pointed out how this scene is reminiscent of what happened to Sansa back in season 2 (and they're right), but it also connects to Sansa because of:

"She's not the girl you remember. Not after what she's seen. Not after what they've done to her."

A lot of people were pissed at this line (not just due to Dany using it as manipulation), myself included, but we see Jon's reaction and how much that reminder affects him. (Kit is the master of microexpressions) We already knew how much what Ramsay did to Sansa affected him due to 6x09 and we see that desire to protect her in 7x02. We didn't need a reminder or for Dany to even say this line (other than showcasing her manipulation I mean) if there wasn't a reason.

The woman about to be assaulted is a citizen of King's Landing and the "invading army" is the perpetrator. Just like what Cersei told Sansa would happen back in season 2 should Stannis win/the city was sacked. And we all know that Stannis is a Dany mirror. So not only does this scene showcase Sansa's presence but it also links back to Dany herself when Mirri Maz Dhur said to her. "Tell me again exactly what it was you saved." Sansa, Dany, and Cersei have all been heavily paralleled, especially the former two, especially when it comes to Jon's story.

Jon stands to Dany's right while she gives this speech. Arya watches from a distance (on the same side as Jon and Tyrion when he shows up). Winterfell is mentioned here specifically, not the region (i.e. Dorne, Qarth) or the Northern people. Just like Lannisport is mentioned which was the seat of power for House Lannister. So Sansa is present as well here.

Then:

Sansa is mentioned here as well (and this is a sort of mirror/contrast to the 8x01 scene between them).

Tyrion mentions both of them to Jon to get him to act. He then mentions Sansa specifically and tells Jon he needs to choose.

Sansa and Arya both defend Jon here. Tyrion mentions to Jon that they both tried to free him.

Sansa is in front of Arya and Bran when Jon sees them. The starting conversation is between Sansa and Jon, then moves to Jon and Arya. He shares embraces with both of them, but with Bran he has the least amount of dialogue and no embrace.

And then we get:

And that made me think back to:

No matter that Bran became King of the 6K, these were the Starks it came down to. Arya was a stand-in for Jon while still maintaining her own story within the Pack and Stark family. Jon took out one threat to Westeros while Arya did the other. And Sansa was essential to both. She maintained Jon's army for him while he was gone and she handled all of the other things that needed handling with so many refugees flocking to Winterfell. She was Regent and ruled the North in his stead. She was also home when Arya returned, and worked with her and Bran to take down Littlefinger. (and I think it bears mentioning that Arya wouldn't have returned had she not heard that Winterfell had been taken back which we all know how instrumental Sansa was in that one) Sansa also saw Dany for what she was, stood up to her, and told the truth about Jon's parentage to save him which also has its own consequences. Sansa was the reason Jon killed Dany, in order to protect her like he promised. It's all connected.

While some have said that this could be OG Aegon and his two sisters, if that's the case, then we know which ones Arya and Sansa each represent and who had Aegon's heart. Not to mention, the image above of them in the crypt for the promo, Arya's wolf armor is on which is made to look different to Jon's and Sansa's furs, while Jon's and Sansa's furs look similar.

It really all came down to these three and they literally said in everything except explicit dialogue: 'Jon and Sansa were always a thing. Here's your power couple.' Arya was the connection between them while also being her own Pack member and having her own journey. There was still Stark Sister power but they literally froze Bran/3ER out after season 7 ended and Jon came back in 8x01.

Insane. The amount of acrobatics they did to show us what the real deal was while the GA was distracted by Dany and Jon was just nuts. But man do I love it.

Loving Maura Changes Jane

So, since I finished Rizzoli and Isles, I've been trying to understand the uncharacteristic ending, where Jane is somehow able to go to Quantico, put down her gun and leave it all behind (which I don't think sticks at all by the way). And I think I've found a way to read it that actually makes some sense and isn't so wildly out of left field. There's definitely some kind of shift that comes with the Alice Sands arc culminating in this exchange in 7x02:

I think that it's how she kills her and what that means for Jane. Jane looks haunted here, but what really makes this time so different? It's not like she's never had to kill someone who was threatening her, Maura, and the rest of her family before. Hoyt threatens Jane, Maura, and Frankie, and Jane does indeed kill him.

There it's a utilitarian kind of killing, whatever weapon she has on hand and a swift, unembellished death.

And it's not like she's never had to kill someone she's had a distant personal relationship with before. There was the cop-killer, Bobby, who also threatened Jane, Maura, and Frankie.

So what makes this time so different? There are two bullet holes in Alice Sands' chest. Two. Jane, who couldn't be more than utilitarian in killing a man who'd tormented her for years, who literally staked her hands and marked her, can put two bullet holes in Alice. How? What's different? Well, I'mma be gay and say it's that she's become entirely aware that she's fallen in love with Maura.

I love to think Jane is a bit repressed and bull-headed and that it would take her a long time to realize her feelings for someone have changed. But Sands having someone kidnap Maura definitely shows very intense feelings. Jane sees this tiny splotch of blood and just...

Jane's been unaffected looking at horrible deaths before.

So, the two bullet holes... they represent what she could do if someone hurt Maura now that she's entirely aware of how she feels for her. She wouldn't just kill for Maura. She would murder for her. And that's absolutely horrifying.

And so I'm much less surprised that Jane would find it fitting to run away from a job that would put her in that position, especially in light of the conversation with Angela in 7x08.

Jane never ever seems to listen to her Ma, except apparently here. The key word is consequences. She's seen her loved ones in danger and it didn't scare her off her job. She's seen consequences. It's instead feeling the consequences of loving someone so deeply while doing the job she does. That person will be in danger as long as she loves them and Jane knows now what she's capable of in the face of her love being under threat. Love has become her flaw (which is very hot if you ask me) because she loves so hard that she would lose the thread on her moral compass and do unimaginable things. She's essentially scared of herself, of what she can do, when she used to be so sure she knew what was right that she never listened to anyone else.

And so, Jane being in love with Maura and actually knowing it, actually acknowledging it to herself could be a valid explanation for why she wants to run off to Quantico and put down the gun, keep herself distant enough that the criminals who hate her won't get to her family. It also explains why it was so hard for her to actually go, why she ends up following Maura to Paris. How do you say goodbye to someone you love so much that you would become someone else to protect them? How do you pretend about love that intense? Running away may feel like the only option for that reason. But for the same reason, it'd never, never last.

thinking on last night's fight between sam and dean, and that has to be one of my least favorite persistent character traits of dean, how he gets mean when he's freaked out/upset/scared/whatever. curious to see what i notice when i start the show over. first time i recall really commenting on it when sam was dealing with hallucifer at bobby's in 7x02. wonder if that's something noticeable going way back.

DEAN So that's how it's gonna be? You give me the silent treatment? SAM I'm not sure what you want me to say. DEAN That you get it. Like, I said, killing Amara, Jack dying... that's the only way. having supernatural politics thoughts. i was under the impression that jefferson rooney's sudden appearance and disappearance completely fucked up the supernatural political timeline, and it kinda did. the main problem is that there are contradictions with mentions of both obama and trump during what should be rooney's time in office (pre-LOTUS 12x08). how do you have time for both a second obama term AND trump, but still sandwich rooney in between?

well, yours truly just spent a few hours going thru every mention of obama, rooney, and trump on supernatural.fandom.com (lol), thinking i was going to be able to prove that this isn't technically possible, and buckleming sucks and that they maybe even killed off obama to make room for rooney after which i was going to be like "what did u do to obama, buckleming???" but actually i found a way for the political timeline to be preserved for the most part without any really big leaps in logic. (buckleming is still dumb as hell for this tho bc it is pure coincidence of air dates and throwaway jokes that it works out perfectly)

ok so obama was definitely president for at least one term in universe bc bobby references obamacare in 7x02 which aired in september 2011. the supernatural wiki says he served two terms, but their evidence for the second term is this part of 10x12, which aired in february 2015:

which. idk that doesn't necessarily indicate that obama is still president. it implies it, sure, but doesn't really confirm it. the last real confirmation for obama being president is 7x12, which aired january 13 2012 (dean says the president is a black guy. gonna just assume this is about obama bc if it's not it opens up a whole new can of worms lmaoo). On that date, obama was still in his first term, so we really have no confirmation of a second obama term. which brings us to jefferson rooney.

jefferson rooney's first appearance/mention is in 12x08, which aired december 8th, 2016. This is after the 2016 election but before inauguration for the next term. this implies, at least to me that rooney won the 2012 election and at the time of 12x08 has already lost the 2016 election to donald trump. by the time we get to 13x09 (aired december 7, 2017), trump is president (kaia says her drug dealer is just trying to make it in trump's america).

all this together tells me that in supernatural, obama is president from 2009-2013, rooney is president from 2013-2017 (which irl was obama's second term), and trump is president from 2017-(2021??). simple! right?

THIS RAISES SO MANY MORE QUESTIONS THAN IT ANSWERS.

first of all, people commonly think of rooney as a republican. generally this has to do with the implication that kelly kline is pro-life, as well as rooney saying yes to lucifer bc he wants to bring about an era of spirituality to america. he's not explicitly stated to be a republican, but he's... republican-coded LOL. makes sense. and it also makes sense for him to have run against obama in 2012. got it. rooney is a republican (and also very clearly a mitt romney stand-in - generally seen as a good guy, religious, ran against obama in 2012).

but how the FUCK did this guy lose to trump. first of all, if theyre both republicans, that means either he lost to trump in the primary (which would be BIG NEWS for sitting president), or trump ran as a third party candidate. ok, i can see that, but what the fuck does THIS line mean then?

how does jefferson rooney become the most popular sitting president in modern history a month after losing his bid for reelection. he literally cannot.

the ONLY explanation that i can come up with is that jefferson rooney MUST have won the november 2016 election. i'm sorry, it's just not making sense to me any other way. which means, jefferson rooney became... indisposed... sometime between december 2016 and december 2017, and somehow this led to donald trump becoming president.

NOW. i very highly doubt that donald trump would ever run as jefferson "i'm satan's little bitch" rooney's running mate (or anyone's running mate for that matter).

ALSO we do have some evidence that trump did run his own campaign for president. in 11x22 (aired may 18, 2016), crowley makes a speech to his demons that parodies trump's campaign announcement speech and uses the phrase "make hell great again." they make the same joke again in 13x02 (aired october 19, 2017) when drexel tells asmodeus that lucifer will return to make hell great again. so trump is almost definitely not rooney's VP.

SO. what does this all add up to? WELL LET ME TELL YOU. here's what i think happened. jefferson rooney went into the november election with TWO major opponents: the democrat challenger (presumably hillary clinton? but unclear) and third party candidate, donald trump. since jefferson is the most popular sitting president or whatever, he wins. but in the US, popular vote does not decide the president; the electoral college does.

when did the electoral college meet and vote in 2016? december 19th. that's right! 11 days AFTER jefferson rooney is last seen on screen (december 8th in LOTUS 12x08, i'll remind you). so presumably, rooney goes missing pretty soon after we see him last.

as for why he goes missing, i'm going with one of two options: 1. he steps down after being possessed because going off the following convo from 12x09 (takes place immediately following LOTUS) :

he either has a 3 day gap in his memory, or he knows he's been possessed by the literal devil and endangered the whole world by letting LUCIFER be PRESIDENT. either way, he steps down bc he questions his own fitness to serve a second term. or 2. he literally just. dies. possibly as a result of a (spoiler alert for two paragraphs from now) demon deal.

what does the electoral college do if the president-elect DIES or steps down before they are able to meet? i cannot believe i researched fucking constitutional law for this stupid fucking post (jk lmao i watched like two cgp grey videos). well, the electors would likely be expected to vote for whoever their national party chooses as a replacement. the logical replacement would be the vice president-elect, but then you need a new vice president-elect as well.

UNLESS. there's a certain third-party candidate that REALLY wants to be president and sees an opening. all he'd have to do is rig the electoral college vote somehow in his favor. hmmm i wonder how donald trump could possibly rig an electoral college-

oh yeah he literally canonically made a demon deal with Crowley (mentioned in 14x20).

SO. theres my answer. problem solved, baby. jefferson rooney went missing after the events of 12x08, 11 days before the electoral college can meet. donald trump sees an opening and makes a demon deal to rig the electoral college votes in his favor, allowing him to essentially steal the election from the most popular sitting president of all time, a month after the election happens. like i said, this deal could have also included getting jefferson rooney... uh... out of the way, as well.

thus, the timeline is TECHNICALLY preserved. well done buckleming! ur stupid president thing only took me a few hours to logic my way out of, and only bc of a throwaway joke from an episode two seasons later that you didnt even write! well done :)

This was reinforced when she woke up in the hospital, Severide was pacing the corridor as Hailey was sat with her arms around you, holding you as the three of you, Boden and Casey waited for Dr Rhodes to check on Stella.

It wasn't until you were able to visit Stella that she gave you the biggest smirk she could produce, raising her eyebrows as she glanced between you and where Hailey was in the waiting room.

"Hey, I didn't technically say anything!" Stella teased, watching you hid your face in your hands.

She also watched you fall off the couch when you got the call from Platt saying they'd been found.

Stella had driven you to the district to go pick Hailey up, both of you staring in horror as Hailey's battered face came into view.

"Did you go to Med? You might be concussed-" Hailey cut you off with a soft smile, gently taking your hand in hers to stop you from fawning over her.

"I'm okay, really!" She replied as she got into the car, spotting Stella's raised eyebrow.

"Sure, Hails, sure... we got takeaway by the way." Stella replied, gesturing to the bag of food you had on your lap.

"You guys went to get takeaway whilst I was kidnapped-"

"No, I got takeaway so Y/n would eat something because they've been on panic mode since Trudy called and told her you were kidnapped! There is a difference!" Stella replied as she began to drive the three of you back to your apartment.

She didn't expect to hear your body drop whilst on the line to her, headache medication on the kitchen counter as she scrambled to try find out what had happened.

She rang Hailey, who immediately headed over to your apartment, using her key.

It was Brett and Foster who were called to help, leaving Stella to head to Med as soon as your address was announced over the intercom.

It was tainted on purpose during production. Y/n was unconscious on the kitchen floor when I found them." Hailey replied, hastily swiping at the tears that had tried to make it down her cheeks.

The two of them were later lead to your hospital room, where you laid, unconscious and attached to the machines monitoring you after you'd had your stomach pumped. You'd only take one tablet, but thanks to them being tainted, the overdose protocols were in effect.

You eventually woke up, more confused than anything as Stella and Hailey fawned over you, leading to the doctors coming into check on you and inform of you of your brush with death.

You chuckled as Hailey wrapped her arm around your waist, taking the box of your belongings into your hands as the two of you walked into her house, the house you were moving into as Stella was moving in with Kelly and Matt.

"Uh, leave room for-"

"For you? I have two arms Stell." You retorted, sticking your tongue out as you side-hugged Stella, who just rolled her eyes.

"Not what I meant, but I will take the hug." Stella replied, leaving Hailey to laugh into your shoulder as she nuzzled into your neck.

in your expert opinion what are some of the most destiel-heavy episodes of spn? i stopped watching around season 7 and have no interest in engaging w the plot of the show at all but i’m in the mood for some gay yearning ykwim

Hi anon! Thank you for reaching out to me about this, I’m, no-joke, very flattered. I’d seen a couple posts on this same question, very thorough and detailed lists on Destiel-centric episodes, but at the moment I cannot find any of them, that would’ve answered your request much faster. So, in advance, sorry, my reply is probably coming in extremely late, but I did write this from scratch, so yeah.

Even though storylines in SPN can be very shitty and hollow, I do feel that to get the full Destiel experience -that long-drawn yearning- one would have to watch the entirety of the show, even if Cas isn’t in the episode or if there’s no explicit mention of their relationship/bond because it gives you a better understanding of them as characters and of how their relationship affects the narrative.

Now, you mentioned you stopped around S7, which is completely understandable and justified given the Dick plot game was very weak and, in my opinion, annoying (so little Cas!). I’m going to start listing from S7 in case you want to refresh your SPN before jumping straight into unseen episodes. Also, since you mentioned no interest in the plot and are specifically craving those sweet crumbs of gay yearning, I’ll skip most one-sided / too subtle episodes and cut to the chase.

Lastly, I hate spoiling things, but you’ve probably seen it all on Tumblr. I tried to keep the episodes’ descriptions short, as it might come in useful. Stuck to key words, quotes and/or little comments.

 Season 7

7x01 – Meet the New Boss: Godstiel, sincere apology. Cas: “I'm gonna find some way to redeem myself to you.”

7x02 – Hello, Cruel World: Mourning. Trench coat melancholy. The heart-wrenching eulogy: “Dumb son of a bitch.”

7x17 – The Born-Again Identity: Emmanuel!Cas, reunion, longing, hurt.

7x21 – Reading is Fundamental: Honey!Cas, hug, hurt, reunion, that painful SORRY (board game) scene.

8x02 – What’s Up, Tiger Mommy?: HUG!!!, Purgatory reunion, face touch, very romantic. Monster: “ You'll find your angel there.” //  Dean: “Let me bottom-line it for you. I'm not leaving here without you.”

8x05 – Blood Brother: Cas vs. Benny cat fight lol. Dean: “Cas... we're gonna shove your ass back through the eye of that needle if it kills all three of us.”

8x07 – A Little Slice of Kevin: Cas comes back from Purgatory, but before that Dean starts seeing him in places. Very tragic; hallucinating your dead significant other trope. Has That boner scene. Dean: “I did everything I could to get you out! EVERYTHING!” Cas helps Dean see what truly happened in Purgatory and not his self-altered memories. PACKED!

8x08 – Hunteri Heroici: Hilarious, romantic, intimate. Dean and Cas have an heart to heart. They actually communicate. Cas “I’ll watch over you.”

8x10 Torn and Frayed: They work a case together, and when I say heart eyes…

8x17 – Goodbye Stranger: THIS. EPISODE. Dean “I need you.”

8x19 – Taxi Driver: Separation. Naomi to Dean: "You're hoping Castiel will return to you. I admire your loyalty; I only wish he felt the same way."

8x22 – Clip Show: Lack of trust, hurt, tense interactions. Romantic too (basically, Cas gets Dean an apology basket).

8x23 – Sacrifice: Meaningful conversation and a gay couple hit by Cupid parallel. Dean “So this is it? E.T goes home?"

 Season 9

9x01 – I think I’m Gonna Like it Here: Dean prays to Cas IN.A.CHAPEL. Worry, longing, separation. Dean “Please, man, I need you here.”

9x03 – I’m No Angel: Human!Cas and jealous!Dean.

9x06 – Heaven Can’t Wait: Human!Cas TEXT-BOOK LONGING. GAY AS FUCK. Gazing, touching, they even TALK (for real).

9x09 – Holy Terror: Adorable Cas, flirty vibes, happyish, funny. Cas: “Cas is back in town!”

9x10 – Road Trip: Cas comforts Dean, Cas and Crowley bitching at each other, overall protective!Cas.

9x18 – Metafiction. Cas finds out about the Mark of Cain.

9x21 – King of the Damned: Hug, strong boyfriends vibes.

10x03 – Soul Survivor: ICONIC. Angel on Demon action! Cas turns down Hannah because he’s too gay and in love. Intimate Deancas talk.

10x05 – Fan Fiction: No Cas, but Destiel references. 

10x09 – The Things We Left Behind: That.Lunch.Date. Deancas introduction to co-parenting.

10x14 – The Executioner’s Song: We get Daddy Murder aka Cain. This is a Pivotal episode to understand Dean’s character development. Plus, it has Deancas interactions.

10x16 – Paint It Black: No Cas, but Dean opens up in confessionary; repressed BISEXUAL AS FUCK.

10x18 – Book of the Damned: Charlie meets Cas. Gay energies everywhere. Cute domestic little scene.

10x20 – Angel Heart: PARENTING! Essential to understand Cas from this point forward.

10x22 – The Prisoner: Just… just watch it. One of THEE Destiel episodes.

10x23 – Brother’s Keeper: No Deancas interactions but it’s the finale, and I recommend watching it because next season takes off literally right from here. No time jumps.

 Season 11

11x02 – Form and Void: Could skip to the very end which is when Cas comes back.

11x03 – The Bad Seed: Cursed!Cas. Dean takes care of him, even wraps him in a blanket. He also cradles his face. Extreme Hurt/Comfort. Jacting joices rejoice.

11x10 – The Devil in the Details: Could skip but has Casifer in it. Interesting to see his dynamic with Dean.

11x18 – Hell’s Angel: Casifer. Dean "It? It's not an it, Sam, it's Cas!"

11x23 – Alpha and Omega: Huggg! Cas willing to go on a guaranteed suicide mission with Dean. Very tender and sad.

 Season 12

12x02 – Keep Calm and Carry On: ANOTHER HUG! Dean presents his boyfriend to his mom<3 Soft and romantic.

12x09 – First Blood: Reunion hug<3, Cas pining… as in he counts his every minute without Dean.

12x10 – Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets: Direct parallel with canon couple. Crystal-clear mutual affection. One of the best. Angel Ishim to Cas about Dean “I'm gonna help you. I'm gonna cure you of your human weakness same way I cured my own… by cutting it out.”

12x12 – Stuck in the Middle with You: A dying Cas confesses his love. “I love you. I love all of you.”

12x19 – The Future: We find out Dean gave Cas a MIXTAPE!!! Very romantic and full of yearning, also worry and what could be seen as a betrayal (ish…).

12x23 – All Along the Watch Tower: Hands down, one of the most distressing Destiel episodes. Cas dies.

 Season 13

13x01 – Lost and Found: This is the worst because you have Dean trying to assimilate Cas’ death. Core of Dean’s widow’s arc. Jack introduction, that’s their new kid.

13x02 – The Rising Son: Widow’s arc (you could skip it, but why would you?).

13x03 – Patience: Widow’s arc (you could skip it, but why would you?). Dean to Sam “He manipulated him, he made him promises, said, ‘paradise on earth’ and Cas bought it and you know what that got him? It got him dead! Now you might be able to forget about that, but I can’t!”

13x04 – The Big Empty: Continuation of widow’s arc and Cas wakes up in the Empty. The Empty to Cas: "I know who you love. There's nothing for you back there." // Dean to Sam “I need you to keep the faith, for both of us. ‘Cause right now, I… Right now, I don’t believe in a damn thing.”

13x05 – Advanced Thanatology: Suicidal and hopeless Dean gets his win. Cas comes back. Gives me the chills.

13x06 – Tombstone: COWBOY BOYFRIENDS!

13x14 – Good Intentions: Happy and fun Destiel scene. So Very Married.

13x23 – Let The Good Times Roll: Season finale, Dean talks about retiring (plans include Cas of course) and just very nice to see them interact.

Season 14

14x03 – The Scar: Reunion.

14x08 – Byzantium: Deanand Cas dealing with their child’s death, then bringing him back by Cas making a deal with the Empty. IMPORTANT EPISODE.

14x09 – The Spear: Cas uses the royal We – married behavior.

14x10 – Nihilism: Dean is stuck in his own mind, and Cas and Sam try to bring him back. Cas “Please, you have to -- you have to try to remember, because the people in your life -- in your real life, out there -- we need you to come back.”

14x12 – Prophet and Loss: Dean gets his very own Dr. Sexy, aka Dr. Cas.

14x14 – Ouroboros: Basically another date (their kid tags along) and They TALK. Very intimate and established marriage vibes.

14x18 – Absence: Shits starts to go south. [ Dean: “Who cares what Jack said? We don't know what happened! But I swear, if he did something to her, if she is -- (points to Castiel) Then you're dead to me. (Castiel looks crushed after Dean says that).]

14x20 – Moriah: Tense and very upsetting. Relationship very damaged.

 Season 15 (I would advise watching the entire season because it relies heavily on Destiel. They’re the heart and the emotional motor leading the plot onwards.)

15x01 – Back and To The Future: Deancas’ in the aftermath of their kid’s death. Tension gets worse.

15x02 – Raising Hell: Tension rises, this is very intense. Cas “Dean. You asked, "What about all of this is real?" We are.”

15x03 – The Rupture: Breaking point ends in divorce.

15x06 – Golden Time: Painful phone call which speaks volumes about the current state of their relationship at the time. Also, good to see where they’re standing and how they’re coping.

15x08 – Our Father Who Aren’t in Heaven: Strained relationship so obvious they’re offered couples’ therapy.

15x09 – The Trap: MASTERPIECE. Back to Purgatory. Can (and is) taken as Dean’s love confession (because it is). 

15x12 – Galaxy Brain: So married. Little domestic date, you can see LOVE written in their faces.

15x13 – Destiny’s Child: AU!Dean and Sam. Not a yearning episode per se, but AU!Dean? SO GAY.

15x17 – Unity: God reveals that the only act of free will in any universe he ever created has been Cas choosing Dean.

15x18 – Despair: Cas confesses his love to Dean.
