I can’t look at you, knowing that gleam in your eyes won’t be looking back.

I can’t look at you, not when you’re so still.

Not when you’re the worst contradiction of

pale yet warm,

a beating heart with assisted lungs,

sleeping without rest.

So near and so far.

Please don’t make me have to look at you.

Don’t leave before I get the courage to raise my aching head.

Don’t make me see you, when you aren’t here to see me back.

I should have known that when we caught wind of Buck getting struck by lightning my other “Keeping Vigil” piece would gain a sequel.

The distance in “Keeping Vigil: Part I” was so physical because Eddie had been shutting Buck out. But now, their bond has mended, now we see that when the roles are reversed with Buck in the dire situation, Eddie breaks apart. He can’t bring himself to leave the hospital, can’t leave Buck’s side…and yet, is unable to look at him and make this all real.

73,000 stitches, measuring at 37x49cm (14x19 inch for my American fam)

I’ve had this in my sketches since May, so FINALLY, I have a finished piece for this heartwrenching concept that took a hold of me and wouldn’t leave until I created it.
