Ok. So. I’ve been thinking…
Everyone involved from Tim to Oliver to Ryan has stated that they want to do the characters justice and tell a story “true” to the characters. IMHO there really isn’t a better story for Buck and Eddie in terms of character growth than them getting together.
Eddie has been constantly searching for a new maternal figure for Christopher and possibly even someone to just play “wife” with him so he can fulfill this heteronormative expectation of a having a traditional family unit that stems from his religious upbringing and what was modeled by his own parents. His identity and self image is that he’s a “nester, he nests”. He needs somebody to love. The rub is that none of his attempts to make that happen have made him happy. Buck is the solution to this. Buck is already a part of the family. What Eddie so desperately searches for in all of his failed relationships is what he already has with Buck and that does make him happy. He just doesn’t realize it yet.
Buck on the other hand is the opposite. Through his upbringing and trauma with his family life, Buck has felt neglected and unloved for a long time. In the earlier seasons, this manifests as hyper sexuality and a need to create intimacy with whoever he can project it on to. It’s quick and dirty and it does the trick for a little but it’s not satisfying and fulfilling the way he wants it to be. Buck needs to be loved. And his solution is Eddie. Buck has that lasting affection and intimacy with Eddie, and I’m not speaking sexually. What’s more intimate than having a key to someone’s house and being their child’s coparent/godparent? Buck also has the belief that he’s expendable and Eddie is the one to help him out of this mindset by making Buck Chris’s guardian in the event of death, which helps give meaning and weight to Buck’s self esteem because now Buck has a reason for self preservation: Chris. Also, Eddie is incredibly patient and kind when it comes to Buck. After the tsunami, Eddie sets Buck straight when he’s beating himself up about losing Christopher. Instead of being angry he lost Chris or just neutral and saying “it was out of your control”, Eddie actively reassures Buck in a positive way. Buck gets what he needs from Eddie. He just doesn’t realize it yet.
I saw something floating around that was really interesting and that I agree with: Eddie knows he loves Buck but doesn’t know he’s queer, and Buck knows he’s queer but doesn’t know he loves Eddie.
Whether or not they intentionally wrote them this way, whether they’re going for just box checking representation or shock value or fan satisfaction, what have you, the reality is that the product they currently have is currently set up in a way for them to do one of the most beautiful, unique, compelling queer love stories we have ever seen on network television. And I really hope they lean in to that.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk…

I would totally see this season ending with a cliffhanger, like Buck and Eddie receiving their wedding licence from Vegas 😀😀

okay here is how i see things. (based on recent interviews and discussions and a cameo)
nobody actually knows if buddie will go canon. not Tim, not Oliver and Ryan, not the network or showrunners. call me to trusting but i fully believe that. we’ve had Tim mentioning how he hasn’t been writing much in advance, especially this season, and we know about all the last minute changes that have been happening (switching of ep 4 and 5, Tommy with Buck instead of Eddie,…). now obviously he must have some overarching idea where the characters are heading and their motivations are, and on top of that we can clearly see he’s been building both Buck and Edie into the potential of being a thing. but i don’t think anybody has decided if they will actually go there. we can also all agree it won’t happen within the next few episodes, most likely not until season 8 or further.
there is a difference between buddie storyline and any other characters, because obviously buddie has been something we’ve been screaming about for years. but for the writers and showrunners themselves it’s not that different. they do listen to us but they’re also not gonna close themselves off to other options for the two guys. they’re aiming for a long running show.
do i think buddie will happen? without a doubt. i just don’t think it’s exactly planned out yet. so when ppl say Ryan and Oliver are “dropping hints” i genuinely think they’re just speaking their own mind. it’s all good vibes now since certain people are not in charge of the show anymore.

Can we have a parallel in Season 8 where Christopher’s classmate mistakes Buck for his dad and says something like: ‘you have really cool dads.’ And Chris is like ‘I know’ as he watches them fondly? Like when the lady did the same in that Christmas episode to Buck, the whole ‘you two have an adorable son.’
Like Chris is on a school field trip and theres a fire. The 118 and another house are brought in to handle it and when they get there Eddie and Buck can’t find Chris. So they just run in? Like Bobby did with May?
And they carry Chris and his friend out and check them over and they’re both super worried and Hen is like its okay I’ve got this and so they go back to doing their jobs and Chris’ friend is just so in awe of how cool Chris’ dads are???
The trip is cancelled so they call his over and help Chris into the Engine for a lift home and he’s just all smiles sitting between Buck and Eddie cause, yeah, his dads are pretty cool.
Added points if before Chris got on the bus for the school trip he was complaining about Eddie worrying over him and calling his dad embarrassing like the preteen he is.
Ugh! I just want more Buckley-Diaz Family🥹

We’ve been blessed with the news of an 8th season of 9-1-1 and some more behind the scenes photos taken by Oliver, including what might be my new favorite or Ryan and Peter looking like a dad

Does anyone know if Tim is going back to lone star after s7 off the og? I thought he said he only came because of the switch to abc and he wanted to help find it’s footing with the new network he never said he was gonna stay my fear is after a couple seasons he goes back to lone star and we’re stuck with someone like Kristen again cause I imagine fox will want him back to helm lone star at some point
Great question and I have no idea. Currently OG and Lonestar are on completely different schedules so I’m hoping he’ll be able to be at the helm for both. I’m not sure OG could survive another Kristen. I don’t know when she took over, but OG started to go seriously downhill there. I’m really hoping we have Tim stay at OG for the rest of its run, but we’ll see.

OK, walk with me here:
So Buck and Eddie get married the night of the bachelor party as a joke but then the next morning they both have zero memory of it.
Jump to the season finale!
Buck and/or Eddie has to do something mundane but legally related (similar to how madney found out about their “tax fraud”) separately. They are confused the whole episode on why whatever they’re trying to do isn’t working and THEN at the very end of the episode one of them checks their mail and there’s a certified letter and they open it and it’s their marriage license and you just get an “oh shit” look and then fade to black.
DO YOU SEE THE VISION?

"we need buck having a mental breakdown in s7!!" "we need buddie kissing in s7!" you know what I NEED? Christopher being in danger and buck getting so worried he growls "get your hands off MY kid" without thinking about it. that or the 118 answering to a fire at chris's school and when buck finds Christopher he yells "dad!" instead of buck. ANYTHING to get these people to finally acknowledge each other as father and son.
edit: of course we can't forget, as Christopher screams "dad!" and reaches out for Buck, he answers with his own desperate and scared "i got you! i got you!"

9-1-1 getting renewed before they finish filming means they don't have to try to wrap up everyone's story with a little bow like they did at the end of season 6 because they had no idea if they'd be back for a 7th season. They can write stories that span seasons if they want to!!
This is SO exciting.

Buck gathers the 118 together: I have an announcement. I'm bisexual and I'm dating a guy.
*everyone congratulates him then looks at Eddie expectantly*
Eddie: What?
Chim: This announcement just feels a little one-sided.
Buck: I'm uh dating Tommy, not Eddie.
Everyone:

Ive seen most people on twitter saying they do not want to wait until season 9 or 10 for Buddie to get together. So that made me curious
Let the people know your thought processes if you would like. I would like to know the thought processes :)
