hi! i loved your hermit tommy and the hermit canyon au, question for hermit ghostbur au: what happens when ghostbur goes endbusting? and what happens once wels shows ghostbur everyone's old megabases?
howdy!! i chose to do wels showing ghostbur a few megabases instead of endbusting :p
Wels leads Ghostbur down a very long Nether highway tunnel, using more rockets than strictly necessary just to goad Ghostbur into focusing on keeping up instead of stressing about his very new acquaintance with using an elytra. They end up at an area with a gigantic map on the floor and lit portals all over it.
“Pick your poison,” Wels says with humor in the corners of his eyes, “which district do you want to see first?”
Ghostbur bites his lip and hums noncommittally. “What are my choices?”
“Let's see, off the top of my head..? Modern, fantasy, futuristic, industrial, medieval, aquatic… and the shopping district too, I suppose?”
Ghostbur wonders what the hermits think the future will look like. If they're all as good as Wels is, they probably think that the future is a utopia, only a month's hard work away from reality. Wels seems like the kind of guy who'd have a noble goal like making the future a kind place. Ghostbur's plan for the future, he thinks, rarely extends past tomorrow's sunrise.
“I'd like to see the futuristic district,” Ghostbur decides aloud, like his mind wasn't made up the moment the word left Wels's lips.
Wels nods toward a structure that looks like a human-sized blender, which sits on top of a glass sea. His eyes betray his eagerness, his pride in his friends and their works. With a cheeky “See you there!” Wels hops through the blender-portal.
Ghostbur rushes to follow, not wanting to be left alone in the Nether, but when his vision clears of the swirling purple miasma of the portal, his heart skips a beat at what he sees.
There's a massive open space ahead of him, circular and made of white concrete save for the brilliant beacon beam in the center. He follows the path of the beam, craning his neck up and up past the ridiculously high walls through the circular hole in the ceiling. The building goes on and on and on, with little glimpses of other floors peeking through. Absolutely incredible.
“Wow, Grian really picked up the pace on his base-- it really looks finished!” Wels exclaims.
“Grian?” Ghostbur says. “This whole building belongs to one person?”
“It was built by one person,” Wels grins.
With wide white eyes, Ghostbur takes in his surroundings once more through a completely different lens. He stares, completely transfixed, until Wels nudges him.
“Come look,” he says.
Ghostbur follows the knight out to the floating ring around the gigantic base. The sea sparkles, alight with the sun on the water and sea pickles below. In the distance, a gargantuan monstrosity made of shapes and concrete stands tall and proud atop an island. The behemoth is like a wire-frame globe: a flat polygon platform in the center, surrounded by ellipses like stripes on a beach ball. It's industrial, and it's magnificent.
The sun dances upon Wels's golden hair, dazzling anyone with eyes in a ten foot radius. His thin gray shirt is caught awkwardly in the harness of his elytra, and his troubled eyes gleam the same pure blue as the water below. Wels is so pretty, because he's so full of kindness and life that Ghostbur wishes he could have. Ghostbur is transparent and drained of vivaciousness; Wels is everything Ghostbur wishes he could have, wishes he could be.
It's not fair.
“Mumbo's made a lot of progress…” Wels says. A note of disquiet rings through his voice. “We should-- we should check out something else. Maybe the shopping district?”
He gives Ghostbur a jerky little nod in what Ghostbur presumes is the direction of the shopping district, then takes off with a burst of rockets. Obviously, Ghostbur follows, though he lags a fair bit behind because he can't help but slow down to look at the hermits’ amazing creations. A giant raining cloud made of glass looms overhead, and a pirate cove with a blackened island to tell the story of a corrosive Nether portal catches his eye down below. Far away, in a different style, someone's built an entire pirate ship.
Ghostbur wants to stop and marvel, but Wels is already a speck in the distance, so he hurries along. Wels lands on a cute path, and Ghostbur crash-lands into a patch of dry coral just as dead and gray as he is. They walk in tense silence, and Ghostbur feels like he's shrivelling into himself.
“Oh, Cherry’s not stocked,” Wels says faintly as he catches sight of a store with glass doors and redstone on all the tables. “At least I can count on Scar to be reliable… Even if I can't find him…”
“You're worried,” Ghostbur says, because it's obvious but Wels doesn't want to admit it. “We should head back.”
Wels's shoulders slump. He leans against the side of the redstone shop like he's suffered a great defeat and clutches his arms across his body like a sad hug. “I need to find them, Ghostbur.”
“You're hurting yourself,” Ghostbur says.
“When I find them, and everything's alright again-- then, then I can rest. I'm fine.”
“Wels, you're hurting yourself,” Ghostbur repeats himself. His hands reach out to Wels's, wrapped around his arms and digging short, dull nails into reddened skin. The ghost gently pries Wels's hands away from his arms and, on an impulse, wraps his arms around Wels instead. He knows he isn't warm like a living person, that he isn't good enough, but he's all that Wels has got right now.
Wels trembles faintly in Ghostbur's arms, though he tries to suppress it. A drop of water falls onto Ghostbur's shoulder and dissipates with a hiss, but the ghost refuses to let go.
“Now I'm hurting you instead,” Wels chokes out. Another two drops, one after the other, fizzle out on Ghostbur's sweater.
“It's okay,” Ghostbur says. “We'll find them. You'll be alright. You're not alone.”
A dirty, exhausted yet manic man lays on the floor of a small room covered wall-to-wall in ravings. He can't bring himself to look at the button on the wall.
“I heard there was a special place, where men could go and emancipate…”
Ghostbur says the words he wishes someone had said to other-him. Wels hugs him back, and Ghostbur hopes that this isn't a repeat of Exile, that he doesn't have to watch this one die inside too.

Dream SMP Recap (April 5/2021) - The Case of the Disappearing Sheep
Ponk and Karl both make plans to speak to Niki about her haven city.
Tubbo does a lap around the server to check out what’s going on, but some mysterious messages crop up on screen.
Tommy and Ranboo attempt to move Friend to a safer location and in the process, Friend goes missing. How do you lose a bright blue sheep? No one knows, but it sure happened anyway.
---
VOD LINKS:
Ponk
Tubbo
Foolish
Tommyinnit
Ranboo
Karl Jacobs
Captain Puffy
---
- Ponk has something he needs to do.
- The Egg has enemies. Everyone hates the Egg. But you know who people don’t hate? Niki.
- Things don’t last forever, so Ponk needs a backup plan for when things go south with the Egg. He goes to Niki’s secret city to leave a message.
(Ponk is going to try and get Purpled in on this, Sam too. He’ll have lore that has to do with before Tommy joined, so he wants to get Sam, Bad, Punz, maybe even Alyssa and George involved too, as well as having some cameos. He mentions Boomer and Snifferish, Redvelvet, 5up, etc., as possibilities)
- He leaves a sign for Niki asking to chat sometime and heads back.
- Ponk retcons his fake kneecaps
- He continues to work on his flower hill for Sam
- Ponk talks to Delta.
- Tubbo aims to get the most powerful sword in the game possible so that he can interrogate people.
QUICK I DONT
HAVE MUCH TIME
- Tubbo goes down into the spider spawner and thinks of sword names.
STAY AWAY FROM
- He considers names like “the Hornet,” “Soul-stinger,” among others.
- He then chooses between “Final Hope” and “Checkmate” and settles on naming the sword Checkmate.
THE NORTH!
- Tubbo visits the mansion
- Tommy logs on and Tubbo spots Tommy walking up Drista’s god staircase. Tubbo is confused and tries it out for himself.
A STRANGE METAL
WEAPON WASHED UP
- Tubbo goes to explore Kinoko. He remarks that a lot of the big places on the server are south of Snowchester.
- He sees Kinoko and also goes down into Niki’s underground city.
IT POISONS
- Next, he decides to check up on the Egg.
- As he heads over, he sees Fundy’s honeymoon suite for Dream and reminisces about Dream’s iron door MCC nightmare.
- He checks up on the prison first and notices the god McDonald’s.
- Then, he goes to the Egg.
THE NATURE
- Tubbo enters the Egg Room.
- Tubbo also visits Ranboo’s house in the Arctic.
THE WATTER
- He goes all the way out to his jungle base and finds a pufferfish in a bucket in a chest. He decides to take it.
- Then the guardian farm
NO ITS NOT
- He returns to Snowchester and sees Michael.
THATS IT WE ARE
LEAVING
- Tommy logs on. He’s gotten a barrier block from Drista and plays around with the invisible staircase.
- They noticed a mysterious nether brick block with a single sign on it. All it says is “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.”
- Jack comes over to them.
- They go back down and Tommy speaks to Ranboo one-on-one. Ranboo suggests they might need Jack as a sacrifice, and Tommy mentions that now that he’s finished with the tower, he might be taking back his hotel.
- They recount the events of last time, where they attempted to rescue Henry.
- Tommy says that until they can give Friend back to Ghostbur, he doesn’t want anybody knowing where he is. They should put him in a vault. Specifically, a place that everyone walks by every day, but no one goes to.
- They visit the Oogway Shrine and Ponk’s green room.
- Tommy points out King’s Court to Ranboo. Everyone sees it, but no one goes up there. It would be the perfect spot to put Friend. They leave Friend tied to a post near the highway elevator.
- They go up to King’s Court.
- Jack comes up and Tommy speaks with him. Jack says he might have a court case coming up due to Puffy suing him for the hotel. Tommy and Jack argue about who owns the hotel. Tommy tells him to give it back, and Jack refuses.
- They see that Friend has gone missing and are confused. They ask Jack if he took their blue shieep.
- They start looking around for Friend.
- Tommy and Ranboo speak away from Jack, trying to figure out who took him.
- Ranboo says he has some of Ghostbur’s blue and suggests they just make a new one.
- Tommy explains to Ranboo that Jack stole his hotel, and as he’s been gathering up resources, working towards Netherite so that he can go to the prison again, he’s decided that he might as well get his hotel back.
- They go back up to King’s Court to work on the vault some more.
- They go back down and discover Friend tied up to the post by the elevator again. They’re extremely confused and speak to Jack again.
- Tommy and Jack fight about the hotel. Jack tells Tommy that since he’s come back, he’s basically a different person and has to buy it back with leverage. Jack says he’s got business deals going on.
- They notice that Friend has disappeared again.
- Tommy asks Jack why he shouldn’t just kill him right now. Jack claims that Friend’s life depends on him.
- Tommy and Ranboo demand Jack to prove that he can summon Friend again.
- Jack leaves and comes back in a detective outfit. He admits that he doesn’t actually know how to summon Friend, but if they need a detective...
- Foolish comes over and they question him.
- They start digging up the hillside.
- They call Dream to try and figure out what happened.
- Jack wonders if maybe Friend pulled a Jack Manifold and went to Hell.
- Phil sends a clip of him singing about Friend dying in autotune.
- Tommy leaves and Ranboo finds Friend with Jack and Foolish.
- They discuss whether Friend’s name is spelled with a capital F in various incarnations.
- Ranboo realizes that Friend is tied to a different fencepost and takes Friend away.
- Karl and Sapnap run around Kinoko on Karl’s account. They decide Jack Manifold’s shoreline restaurant has to go.
- Karl explains that he wants to merge with Niki’s country, and he can’t sell her the deal with this building here. Hannah is there, and says that it’s her favorite burger restaurant.
- Karl starts tearing it down. Foolish hands him TNT. Punz shows up. They light TNT inside and mines down the walls. Hannah says he’ll pay with his life.
- They see a fish in the pond and decide to name him Lasagna. If anything happens to Lasagna, Sapnap would take a canon life.
- They also retrieve Hutt the fish, Rutabaga, the Party Island llamas
- Karl writes a book to Niki saying he’d love to show her around his beautiful country, and that he’s noticed their countries are close together. He remembers creating Rutabagville together, and suggests they might do something similar and combine territories. He puts the book and George’s wall shield in his Ender Chest.
- Puffy pranks Bad and Skeppy by replacing the quartz in their mansion with white concrete.
- Puffy sacrifices Antfrost for Karlnap.

Upcoming events remain the same.

here’s some headcanon lore stuffs i jsut finished writing, and ig it would go with the small fanfic part i wrote that i’ll probably never finish.
————
Grian is the half brother of Wilbur and Techno who are the half brothers of Tommy.
Grian is human at first.
Wilbur and Techno are twins, they are piglin hybrids. Techno prefers his piglin form. Wilbur prefers his human form. They are from a bastion in between a soul sand galley and a chrismis forest.
Tommy is also a piglin, not to bothered by either form. His tusks are sharper than his brothers as he is a warped piglin. A piglin from the warped forest.
Grian is a year older than wilbur and techno, people think that they are triplets. When grian was 6, and wilbur and techno were 5, their mom brought wilbur and techno home who up till that point lived in the nether with their father in another server.
The mom was cheating on grian’s father with a piglin hybrid, who was cheating on her.
grian’s dad finds this out and déforces her, taking grian and going to japan.
A year later grian is disowned for bein trans. At the same time, Tommy turns 1.
One day their mom is killed and wilbur and techno are left to fend for themselves on the streets.
Wilbur goes to steal some food, meanwhile techno is attacked in the ally way they were staying in. He gets kidnapped for bein a piglin and taken to another server where he is forced to fight other children in a ring or wutever it’s called.
Wilbur is left alone, worried, and scared. Phil finds and adopts him half a year later, and another half year they move to a new server and find techno.
Techno escaped the place he was at, getting his golden crown in the process.
Techno and Wilbur were happy to see eachother.
Tommy is adopted when the twins are 8. Tommy is 3 at the time.
Later, when they are in smp earth, they hear about their home world disappearing. Wilbur and Techno are really upset, altho techno doesn’t show it around others. They barely remember their older brother.
How ever, Tubbo and Dream are brothers, bein the sons of Schlatt. When their parents split up, Tubbo goes with his mom, and Dream stays with Schlatt.
Tubbo’s mom drops him off the side of the highway miles away from his brother and father.
He’s only 2 at the time, and Sparkles finds him there, and adopts him.
They, when they go to a new server, meets the sbi and Tommy and Tubbo become best friends, almost brothers. It’s a joke about how the sbi found Tubbo.
Tubbo was playing around when they found him in a box on the side of the road, not knowing he had a dad. so they took him and a week later they found out that sparkles was his dad.
Sparkles was relieved, as he had found his son, and that his some was with Phil, someone he knew and trusted, and had not been kidnapped.
Dream and Tubbo both are half goat. And Tubbo doesn’t recognize dream, as dream wears a mask and cloak to hide his goat features. They both file down their horns, like tommy and wilbur file down their tusks. (it doesn’t hurt them at all, as long as they don’t go past a certain point.)
Dream and Schlatt realize that Tubbo is their brother/son. they don’t say anything about it, thinkin that he was adopted by the sbi.

word count full: 1,041
word count summary: 637
word count liveblog: 293
Overall pretty chill stream, good for some techno ranboo dynamics and no real lore
SUMMARY:
Techno starts the stream in his base. While people find the stream, he rambles about how Phil doesn’t ever have time to do plot streams with him, and jokingly declares him canonically dead, and asks Chat if they have a grandpa who could replace him. He does a little advertisement for his new Technoplushie, and mentions that he wanted to have a video out this week, and that he actually edited last night.
He talks about how he lost his in-game notebook, but finds it quickly. He reveals that he’s finally ordered new glasses, good for him, and then shows his chat Ranboos shack. Techno repairs his armor a bit, and then gets a friend for Bob, his cow. He also moves his villagers down to the villager area.
Dream joins the server, and Techno bullies him about his homeless status. Ranboo joins his VC, and Techno threatens his parrots because they make Creeper noises while Ranboo tries to sleep. Ranboo has to leave the call, and restart his computer, due to technical issues.
Techno tells his chat that if they donate a Technopepe ($50, i think?), he’ll name a dog after them. He is immediately overwhelmed by donations and spends several minutes naming dogs. Dream asks him to name one ‘dream has a house,’ and Techno says that that would be the favor. He is also asked to name one Technochan.
The dogs kill several zombies, and Techno eventually finishes with the named dogs. There are around 25 dogs following Techno at this point.
0:27:40 Ranboo gives Techno a present, an Efficiency V, Fortune III, Mending, Sharpness V, Unbreaking III Netherite axe, as a replacement for the Axe of Peace. Techno assures us that his heart is not warmed at all, totally, he is still completely indifferent about this child Phil adopted.
Ranboo mentions that he’s going to find another Woodland Mansion, and Techno decides to tag along.
While ringing the sellout timer, the first dog dies. This one is Mackenna, and they die because of the fireplace. While looking at the fire, Edward hits Techno, and the dogs immediately run and attack him. Edward dies. Ranboo mentions that he liked talking with Edward.
Ranboo and Techno eventually leave, and Ranboo shows Techno the stronghold by his house. They go into the Nether and onto the roof, while talking about past events and Sapnap. They move on to bullying Tubbo about his dying habit.
They make it around 1,000 blocks from spawn, and Techno builds an uncomfortably square portal. They find that they’re too far south, and they go back into the Nether.
Techno starts singing ‘99 bottles of beer’ and i just….love his singing voice so much it’s at 0:48:55 and you should watch it. They make a few different portals, and eventually they find the right area and go to the overworld. They find the mansion, and Technos dogs try to kill the vex. It does not work that well. The dogs do attack an evoker, and Techno gets his first totem of the day.
Two dogs die to a creeper, including one named ‘Dream has a house.’
Ranboo lights a fire in a cat statue, and they watch as the mansion burns to the ground. Techno plays sad music.
They search the chests, which don’t burn, and try to find better loot. They do not succeed.
Techno and Ranboo head back home, and they talk about a random pig who managed to go through the portal in, and then out, of the Nether.
They find a Soul Speed highway, and Ranboo has to explain it to Techno. They talk about miscommunication in Dream SMP, and eventually reach the house. After sitting down all the dogs, Techno goes back up to the sellout timer and ends the stream.

Goodbye Town - Pope Heyward
Tumblr media
Warnings: Underage drinking, drugs
Word Count: 2355
A/N: This is based off my favorite song. I thought about writing with JJ but I think it works better this way.
Right there's the high school where we met
We'd sneak out back for a couple kisses and a cigarette
And that parking lot was our first date
And her momma slammed the door when I dropped her off too late
At one point in time, if you asked Pope Heyward who he loved his answer would be Kiara Carrera. He thought the sun set and rose just for her everyday. That was until he met Y/N Y/L/N. He never expected to like anyone beside Kie. Maybe Kiara was out of his league and had a thing for his other friends, but he didn’t care until that day. It was raining outside, he was in class, geometry to specific. His AP class to give him extra credits towards college. When the teacher introduced her, she said her name wrong, but the girl was to polite to say anything. She sat three seats behind him, her yellow backpack hanging off the back of her chair. He knew from that moment on he was in for it. He saw her around school, and talking to other people and finally he saw her talking to his friend John B. His heart dropped knowing he could never compete with someone like him. He thought he lost all chances until he introduced the two of them.
“Hey guys, this is Y/N, she just started in my art class.” John B introduced the blonde girl to everyone. She smiled, with a small blush.
“Are we still skipping last period to go surfing?” Kiara asked the brunette. They had been talking about it all day in the group chat. Something about the waves being supreme for surfing. Pope wanted to go but knew he would get in trouble for ditching again, plus last period was with Y/N and he wasn’t missing that.
Everyone was having their own conversation, while Pope was trying to finish geometry homework from the night before. He had finished JJ’s English assignment knowing he wouldn’t do it. He was lost in his math problems when she spoke to him. “Is that the homework from last night? Man, that was hard, what did you get for question 12?” Pope had to double take. Is she talking to him? “Yeah it-t is. Uh, I got the angle being 43.” “Oh, really how’d you get that I got the angle being 36.” He didn’t know where he got the confidence from but out of no where he spoke up. “I can show you after school if you want, these losers are going to be surfing for a while, and I’m going to need something to do.” She smiled at him. “Of course, that would be great why not by the bench outside, after class?” The rest was history.
They met there all the time, and Pope fell harder and harder for the blonde hair girl. She would smoke a joint, and he would help her with the math. Sometimes she would draw. She was an amazing artist. Always talked about leaving and going west to LA. A pipe dreamed she called it. One day when the sun was setting and they were running late, Pope took a chance and kissed her. It was quick just a few seconds, but she smiled, and kissed him back. He walked her home that night. It was the first time he had ever seen were she lived. He mom was at the door waiting. “I’m sorry for what’s about to happened”, and before he could respond her mom was hollering about how she was running late. Slamming the door in Pope’s face when he tried to take the blame for what happened.
She's gone
Chasing that highway wind
She's gone
She ain't coming back again
This ain't nothing
Nothing but a goodbye town
These streets are only bringing me down
Gotta find a way to finally get out
Out of this goodbye town
As Pope was packing up his things for college, he found her sweater. It was just a little over two months ago when she left. He missed her so much. The way she always smelled like lavender and a hint of weed. They way she was so carefree, something he need to be more of. He was proud of himself for getting into UNC, he didn’t think it would actually happen. He applied for a ton of scholarships and with finical aid it wouldn’t be so bad. He got a job at a restaurant on the mainland. A friend of his dads. He put your sweater in the box of things he still had of yours. Scrunchies, a few bracelets, one of your old sketch books. These things that made his heart hurt, like a hurt he’s never felt. He wonder if you made it out west in the beat up car JJ helped fix for you. When he looked through the sketch book you left at his house and found pictures of buildings around town. Nothing but a goodbye town, he thought.
We sat down on those courthouse steps
Fourth of July those fireworks over our heads
And they'd ring the bells of that little church
No there ain't nowhere I can look that doesn't hurt
She's gone
But I still feel her on my skin
She's gone
But she ain't coming back again
This ain't nothing
Nothing but a goodbye town
These streets are only bringing me down
Gotta find a way to finally get out
Out of this goodbye town
Looking through your sketch book he found one of the courthouse. It was your second fourth of July on the island, the first one you spent not knowing anyone. He smiled thinking back to that day, it was perfect. You guys had spent the night at John B’s place. You lied to your mom saying you were sleeping at Kiara so she wouldn’t get mad. There was a party at the boneyard the night before, and he wanted you to go. When you guys woke up in the morning you were wrapped up in his arms asleep on the couch. He was always the early riser, while you loved to sleep in. He treasured these moments. The way you eyelids flutter from the dream you were having to the small sounds escaping your lips from breathing. Once everyone got around for the day, John B and JJ suggested you go into town and watch the fireworks. It was cold and you forgot you sweater so Pope gave you his.
Watching the fireworks was memorizing to you. You loved all the colours that came from them. Sometimes they would be to loud and you would cover your ears. You split a smoke with JJ before leaving, he claimed it would enhance the experience. It just made them way too loud. Sometimes Pope still feels your breath on his skin. It wasn’t been long since you left but he was regretting everything about this goodbye town.
I can't erase the memories And I can't burn the whole place down No this ain't nothing Nothing but a goodbye town To hell if I'm sticking around Gotta find a way to finally get out Out of this goodbye town Oh yeah Out of this goodbye town I'm out of this town So out of this town Oh oh oh oh oh...
Pope didn’t know if he wanted to remember all the good times you guys had together. He didn’t want to feel the pain anymore. He kept looking back on the day he left you crying in your driveway. The day you guys called it quits. He couldn’t believe he just walked away
~Flashback~
It was the end of the school year, and you guys were getting ready for graduation. Some how you all made it through. JJ finishing with barely enough credits, but with Y/N and Pope’s help they got him through. It was the night after prom, you begged Pope to go with you. Claiming you guys only got one prom and you wanted to spend it with him. He could never say no your pout, it was like magic. So he got all dressed up in tux he borrowed from your brother and you wore a beautiful green dress that Kiara let you borrow. It was magic. You both were going to UNC, of course you were little disappointed, it wasn’t your first choice. You applied for an art school out west but got waitlisted. Of course you were happy to go to them same college as you boyfriend. You guys looked at apartments together, and you even got a job at a local bar. It was a dream come true.
That was until the morning of gradation, your mom stopped to pick the mail up on her way home from your hair appointment. You were causally looking through the bills when you saw it. Your heart stopped, this was the letter you had been waiting for. You ripped it open and started reading, “we would like to congratulate you on your acceptance to the Otis College of Art and Design. You’ve been accepted into this years fall term.” You were freaking out. The first person you wanted to tell was Pope, but that’s when you remembered all the plans you guys made. He couldn’t be mad, could he? He knew this was your dream. When you got to your house he was there waiting for you. His smile made your heart drop. “How can I tell him mom? We made plans, I love him, but this is my dream.” You asked your mom. She looked at you sympathetically. “I know you love him Y/N, but never let a boy stop you from chasing your dreams. Just because you made plans with him, does not mean you have to give up your dreams for his.” She was right, you loved Pope and he will always be your first love but you couldn’t live your life wondering what would have happened if you never left.
Pope opening the door startled you. “Hey I’ve got our gowns and caps. Kie wants us to do pictures at her house, something about it looking nice in her garden. Everyone is meeting there, so go get your dress on.” He looked up at you. He could tell something was off. He knew you like the back of his hand. “What’s wrong Y/N/N?” that’s when he saw the letter. He recognized the LOGO from one of your art books. “Is that a letter from the art school out west? Y/N did you get in?” You could hear the fear in his voice and couldn’t blame him. He knew what was coming. You both did, but nether of you wanted to admit it. “Uh,-yeah-yeah it is. I got accepted. Someone must have dropped out. Crazy right? The school year wasn’t even started yet.” You looked at him and the look in his eyes killed you. “So what, are you going to go? I mean what about us? We made plans Y/N.” “I know that Pope, you don’t think I know that. This is a big deal for me! You know how bad I wanted this. We can make this work, we can do the long distance. No it would be easy, but I don’t want to lose you.” You pleaded with him as he turned away from you. He was so angry with you, changing the plans the two of you made. “No, I don’t want to be in a relationship with someone I don’t get to see. I want you to stay Y/N. It’ selfish of me but I need you here with me.” You couldn’t believe what he was saying to you. “Do you really want me to chose between you and my dream college. Don’t make me do that Pope. Please.” You had tears running down your face at this point. Not caring about your makeup. “Yes, I want you to choose—“Then I choose college.” You said it so fast you didn’t have time to take the words back. He looked at you with anger in his eyes. You’d never seen him mad like this before, of course you guys had disagreements but nothing like this. “Fine then.” And with that the love of your life walked away. Even with you screaming for him to comeback. He didn’t. It broke him, but he knew if he turned around that you would stay with him. And he couldn’t be the one to keep you from chasing your dreams.
~Flashback over~
Pope didn’t like to regret things. He stopped by your house a couple days later, but your mom said that you already moved. Deciding on spend the summer in LA with your aunt to get to know the place better. He knew that was a lie. He knew you left because you could stand to see him. He walked around the town all summer seeing all the places you guys would hang out. The Pouges tried their best to keep his mind off things, as well as his parents. His dad offered to move him to the mainland early, but Pope wasn’t ready yet. JJ agreed to move to the mainland with him, getting a job and going to the community college near the university. It was the small gesture Pope appreciate from his friend. Pope was putting the last of his boxes in the truck, JJ had already moved over a week before starting work. He was finally ready to leave. Leave all the memories the two of you had behind. It was done and, in the past, but he couldn’t help but think about you smoking by the school doing homework. He was ready to leave this goodbye town.
You'll be just a memory in the back of my mind You'll be just a memory yeah Oh, somewhere in the back of my mind In the back of my mind, yeah One day you're gonna look back at what we had You're gonna think of me You're gonna think of me When I'm long gone I'll be long gone

A young woman is given a wish (or three wishes) for her friends and family. Right before wishing, the genie casts a temporary spell on her. Everything she wishes for will be perverted, and she’ll have to watch her friends and family deal with the wishes she didn’t mean to say.
Your wish is my command, hehe.
It was a few hours later after Cassandra Crowe made it into town. She sat in the cracked leather seat of her Jeep and traced her fingers along the imperfections in the glass of the souvenir she bought from her trip to California. She was almost certain her mom would love it. She was pretty into those super old tv shows and this was too good a deal to pass up. It was a real lamp from I dream of Jeannie. Apparently, the actors and crew were pretty butterfingers about these and they had a whole bunch of them made for the show. Even if mom didn’t care for it dad could probably use it as a cool looking decanter.
It almost never happened. It shouldn’t have happened. But as a drunk driver ran a red light across from her she instinctively slammed her brakes, sending her lurching forward. Her hand shot out to grab the prop, hoping she could protect her hundred dollar investment. But her aim was off and she had only rubbed along its surface as it flung forward and cracked against the dashboard. “Shit,” she said. Dejected at her lost present she carried on to her family home, not noticing the red haze that was rising from the broken glass.
She drove absentmindedly, fully under the control of highway hypnosis, when she heard a voice next to her say “Hello.” Her head turned sharply and she let out a shriek of shock as the wheel jerked one way then back. “Who the hell are…” Cassandra began, but as she came to a stop at the side of the road and turned to face this stealthy intruder her mouth simply hung open. She was so…she didn’t know why but beautiful seemed like such an inadequate word to describe this woman. Her skin was golden and her eyes, her eyes were the brightest shade of green. Her hair was dark and long and its tips didn’t just end, it seemed that they flowed and bloomed like flowers somehow. She covered herself in red robes, one over her sizable chest and another around her waist. Her legs were bare and her ankles and wrists were decorated with markings and jewelry. “You know,” she said with a voice like a sunrise, “I’ve heard of them but this is the first time I’ve been inside one of these things. It’s called a car, right?”
Cassandra’s faced flushed. She wasn’t gay, never had a single gay thought that she could recall. But this woman invoked feelings in her that she hadn’t felt even for Josh, and they were together for years. “Who…?” she said again. “Who? Don’t they teach you children anything anymore?” “Uh, I’m twenty-nine…” “And I am old enough to have seen the stars change their shapes, but there’s no need to argue. Who are you, whom I am meant to serve?” Cassandra nearly didn’t hear what she said, it was so easy to get lost in this woman’s eyes. “Wait, serve?” “Yes, milady. I am a Jinn, and I will endeavor to grant you two wishes. So, what would you like me to do?”
Cassandra sat dumbfounded in her idling car, staring at the beautiful Jinn that just offered to grant her wishes. She raised her hand quickly, “I don’t think you believe me just yet, how about this?” she said. She snapped her fingers and suddenly she and the Jinn were standing in her parent's driveway with her car parked on the sidewalk. There was no transition, it just happened. “Oh my God…” Cassandra said, “You really are a genie!” The Jinn’s eyes twitched a little. “It’s actually Jinn, not Genie. But I suppose that’s all right, and like I said I will give you two wishes for freeing me from that prison. But there are some rules. First, these wishes are only to be used for your family and friends, not for yourself. Second I will not grant any wishes of death for a person or to bring someone back from the nether realm, not that I can’t I just won’t. Third, no wishing for more wishes. Fourth, nothing will be granted that would throw the cosmic order of the universe out of balance. Understand?” Cassandra had listened to all that and it sounded simple enough. “So,” the Jinn said, “What do you command?”
Cassandra was racking her brain trying to come up with good wishes. But she could only use them on her family? That was a weird rule. She could make her family rich, but then they might get spoiled. She could wish that everyone in her family had long, productive lives, but what would the genie think is long enough. It might add up to centuries, that might need explaining eventually. Well, if she had two then she could use one for her mom and dad then the other on her brother. She remembered her mom telling her that their relationship had been strained the past few years. Ever since mom found out she can’t have kids anymore. That’s it! But what about the wish for Richey. He was young, barely eighteen. He just wasn’t very open or outgoing and spent all his time inside. Perfect, now all she had to do was say it. “All right, Ms. Genie. I know my two wishes. First, I wish that my mom and dad swapped their genitals and that my dad was super fertile and for my second wish I wish that my brother was a super sexy cat girl in heat all the time!” The realization of what she had just spoken aloud didn’t hit her until the beautiful Jinn said “Your wish is my command!” A sly grin turned up the corners of her mouth.
Richard Crowe smelled the stale, leftover pizza from the night before. He wasn’t especially excited that his sister was coming over. It just meant that he would have to stop raiding with his guild and go upstairs and pretend to be interested in their conversation. He was actually trembling with what he thought was excitement. Tonight was going to be a big guild event and he would hopefully level a few times. But before he could log on he went over to his bed and performed his favorite good luck ritual. He grabbed his long pillow and removed its sheet, revealing an image of a young woman almost totally naked with cat ears and a tail. He hair was golden brown and she wore almost transparent lingerie that left nothing to the imagination. Eris, the perfect waifu. He flopped onto his bed, holding the body pillow to him, and planted a kiss directly on the pillow's lips.
Why can’t all girls be like this? he wondered. As he kissed the pillow, he thought for a second that he felt a returning pressure and a moistness around his lips that shouldn’t be there. He opened his eyes and saw the face of his beloved pillow looked distorted, as if it was melting. A drop fell from the dolls face onto his own, it was warm and felt tingly. Was this sweat? he thought. But as he felt another drip and another, and others falling all over his body it became clear that it couldn’t be. Soon the drips became a stream, then a torrent as he was drenched in his melted waifu. He threw the pillow away, it was nothing but a plank bag of cotton now. The strange gunk was still covering his body and he stated and pulled the semisolid gunk away but each time it sprang back.
His chubby body began to feel strange. Tingles covered his skin, but elsewhere too. Like he wasn’t all where he should be. Soon it became impossible to distinguish him from the gunk that covered him and it was getting hard to move, but even though it covered his entire face he didn’t have any difficulty breathing. Suddenly it began to get hot, really hot. For a second he thought someone might have light him on fire. As the heat continued the gunk became unified over his body. No longer a mess, it began to take shape. His round belly was gone, replaced with a flat tummy. His hips stayed the same, perhaps a little bigger, but the distribution of fat was radically different leaving him with a huge, pert ass and thighs that just barely rubbed together.
The most alien addition was the growing protrusion about his ass. It began as a hardly perceptible nub then suddenly shot out nearly four feet. Like everything on his body, it lacked color and definition. But soon it took on a familiar golden brown hue. It was impossible for him to feel where he ended and this horrible gunk began. His body felt wrong but in a weird way, better. The gunk on his arms refined them into slender waifish things and his chest ousted out now with tremendous breasts. His face smoothed and his mouth and nostrils opened again and he took the first big breath in what felt like forever. His chest heaved out with a new weight and his body felt totally out of balance. One glance down and he understood why. He saw his breasts, he saw his tail flick back and forth keeping his balance. He reached up and help his long hair and to triangle shaped ears on the top go his head. He grabbed his tits and pulled them apart and got an eyeful of his hairless pussy and he heard his new, cute voice for the first time when he screamed out “NYAAAAAAAAAA!!”
Gail and Michael Crowe were in their living room. Michael sat in his chair, absorbed in his adventure novel. Gail click-clacked in the kitchen as she could smell the apple pie she had just finished baking, her third pie that week. She never ate them, mostly she gave them away as gifts. But it still felt nice to do something. To have a purpose again. She had set the pie on the counter when she felt a rush go through her. She clutched her small role of pudge as she went to her knees. It was as though she had just been punched in the stomach. “What in God’s name was that?” she asked to no one in particular. As she began to stand she felt something. Something familiar but alien at the same time pressing against her panties. Looking to make sure she wasn’t being spied on, she grasped her crotch with her hand. She recoiled instantly as she grabbed much more than she thought she would.
She pulled her skirt out and looked at the large bulge in her panties. She pulled them away and nearly fainted at the huge cock she inexplicably had. She began to hyperventilate as her mind went to every piece of information she had to explain this. But she stopped as she looked at the, or rather her, left testicle. It had two small moles on it. No, she thought, there was no way. She had seen those moles every time it was Michaels birthday, and they were the subject of a lot of worried speculation at the doctors several years ago. Without readjusting her skirt and panties, allowing her new member to flap about, she ran to the living room and confronted her husband. He sat on his knees on the floor, a look of pure worry on his face as his hand was down his pants. He looked up, wide-eyed. He saw his wife’s new equipment, then without a word he pulled his hand out from his trousers and revealed the slickness of his fingers. Their eyes met, and something sparked between them. A new understanding, or perhaps simple instinct. Either way, they knew that their relationship was never going to be the same.
“Tell me I didn’t say what it sounded like I said, please Ms. Genie,” Cassandra said. The Jinn shook her head and said “Sorry, but I already granted your wishes as they were stated. I should have said, my presence tends to have that sort of effect on a person. It’s hard to turn off.” Casandra was gobsmacked. She left the Genie and ran up the front door. She rang the bell but there was no answer. She began banging on the door but still nothing. After a minute the lock finally began to move and the door opened to a naked brown haired woman with…oh no. “Richey?” she said. The woman nodded, “Cassy, nya, I don’t understand what happened, nya. It’s so hard to think, nya, my insides are so hot, nya.” Richey squirmed awkwardly as he stood. His hips thrust out behind him as his chest hung invitingly. “I’d say that as a pretty good wish,” the Jinn said from behind her. She reached out and took one of his breasts into her hands and he let out a low, adorably needy ‘nya’.
She pushed past them and looked for her parents, she didn’t look long. There they were, rutting in the living room. Her father was on all fours, pants around his ankles and his own lubrication running down his thighs. Her mother was using her new cock to rapidly piston in and out of her husband. Both of them had a look of pure ecstasy. “We’re doing it babe”, he father said between thrusts, “we’re gonna have another baby!” Gail continued to thrust deep into her husband's womb, not a care for what was happening around her. “I know, I love you so much,” she said. She barely had to wait before the two of them sang out in simultaneous orgasm, unknown to them that Michael Crowe was already pregnant for the first time.
Cassandra stared open-mouthed at her parents. She turned to her former brother and the Jinn as the pair began to sneak away. “Where are you going?! You need to fix this!” she said. The Jinn shrugged her shoulders. “Sorry, I can’t undo wishes. Now if you’ll excuse me, I think I’d like to help your brother get acquainted with his new body,” the Jinn said. She rubbed the front of her robes, and to Cassandra’s surprise, she spotted the Genie’s undeniably large erection begin to grow. “Who knows,” she continued, “maybe if this pretty little kitty can entertain me, I’ll give her a wish or two.”
The End. Oh boy, looks like we’ve got a new character to add to the roster! Hope Y’all liked it!

A caravan of 70 San Franciscans, cruising a desolate highway in Northern Nevada, halts in a swirl of dust at the edge of a dry lake bed. Car doors open and everyone piles out. With the toe of his cowboy boot, a man draws a long line on the arid desert floor. The group gathers silently along one side and grabs hands. One, two, three... as a single entity they step across the line. “Yahoo!” “Yeah man, we’re here!”
They’ve entered the Cacophony Zone.
The caravan drives on across the dead lake, a gold Volvo coupe leading the way, a sand storm billowing in its wake. In the middle of nowhere, the caravan stops again; cars, trucks, and vans form a circular encampment, creating a tiny village in the barren desert.
“Lawrence of Arabia” erects his domed pup tent. Across the compound, Louise, in yellow and pink harem garb, spreads lambswool rugs beneath a canopy. Nancy tends to her pots of cacti. “They had to come along, this is their home,” she informs. Phil dons Arab headgear. Margo parades by with a parasol, but Margo is only Margo when she wears her long black wig, so for now she is Jane. For this event anyone can be anyone and many go by nom de guerres. Props are part of the trip, but then it isn’t just a trip, it’s a Cacophony event.
As “Moses” puts down his divining rod, the coolers appear and the beers start to disappear. Next to the camp Larry Harvey supervises the building of a gigantic wooden man. Sven plays drums and Ron, the Dadaist poet, watches John sand surf. After a game of croquet,
Nancy and Steve wander off for a splash in nearby hot springs.
By sundown the next evening, the wooden sculpture is finished and lays stiff on the sand like an enormous wooden corpse. It’s time for a cocktail party. The nomads exchange their desert gear for elegant cocktail dresses and formal evening wear. Beside the supine wooden figure, a man in a white tuxedo chats idly with a women in taffeta and pearls. Then the call goes out, everyone grabs onto a long rope connected to a rotating jib and pulls. Slowly, as the last purple and orange rays of light fade from the desert sky, the wooden man rises to his feet. He towers more than four stories high. Moments later, Dave Warren, a fire-eater, blows an enormous torch of flame from his mouth, igniting the sculpture. Against the starry night, The Burning Man soars to life. “His groin burns blue as flames ascend his spine. His arms outstretched, reach upward and the fire, flaring red about his heart.”

“Burining Man, Zone Trip #4” was an elaborate Cacophony Society event. “Event” is the catchword used to describe adventures, projects, and pranks. Events have included a canoe ride under the piers, a night of surrealistic theater as written by the audience, a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on the Embarcadero Freeway, a walking tour of Oakland’s sewers, midnight picnics, the Atomic Cafè, a Golden Gate Bridge dinner party, and a midnight laundry bash. A Cacophony event is anything the mind can imagine and the body can execute. Anyone can join in. Anyone can give an event. Indeed, you may already be a member...
“You could say that a lot of the events are like the experiences you’d have while taking drugs, but without the drugs. The events themselves make people look at things differently,” explains “M-Squared,” a society member for the last two years. “A lot of us grew up in the 1960s and ‘70s. We were exposed to a barrage of alternative ideas. Now as we mature, we aren’t going to settle for the norm.”
There are few organized aspects to the group, but among them is the newsletter, Rough Draft. In it upcoming events are communicated to 250 or so member/subscribers. There’s also a monthly meeting at the Common Grounds Coffee House on Hayes Street where ideas for events are formulated and organized. Planning an event can take weeks or months- and includes everything from assessing the dangers to scouting out the perfect location and renting equipment. Once a new person starts showing up, it isn’t long before the old hands start asking hopefully, “When are you going to give your event?” The only constraints on events are that they can’t be commercial, nor may religious or political groups use events to propagate their views. “We give events to challenge the mental set of contemporary society,” says M-Squared. “We break ordinary reality either for ourselves or other people. We challenge reality, stretch it, twist it.”

Your host: Sebastian Melmoth —Rough Draft, December 1990

About 25 people gather in the chilly night air at Lincoln and 7th, a favored place of convergence. Blindfolded, they are driven to a predestinated location, Then, hand- in-hand, they are led down a hill, through mud and along a gravel path.
Finally they are allowed to halt. “Okay, you can take off your blindfolds now,” invites tonight’s host. The participants find themselves in a dimly illuminated, wooded area (which turns out to be Golden Gate Park (near the windmills). Sebastian Melmoth (not his real name) hands out tarot cards, and whoever picks the card Death is “it.”
“I hope I get the death card,” someone whispers.
“Whew,” someone else sighs, “I’m just a zombie.”
Melmoth calls out, “Let the game begin!”
Within the boundaries of the playing field, the “zombies” shuffle around trees and paths, merging into the shadows or, for the more adventurous, stalking Death. Once again, there are few rules: no running or talking. Should Death manage to sneak up and squeeze your shoulder, you die. The victim must let death escape by first counting to 30 before emitting a blood curdling scream and falling to the ground. The dead stay where they fall, silent until the game is over. In order to kill Death two zombies must point him out at the same time.
“We live in the kind of society where you pay other people to entertain you,” says Melmoth later. “You pay to go to a movie someone else made, or pay to go to a play, or pay to see performance art. That’s all great, but it’s not something that you’re doing. You’re sitting there watching images and ideas that someone else went through enormous amounts of anguish and grief and creativity to create. It’s their thing that you’re experiencing. In an event, initially it may be the idea of two or three people, but the best ones are those that everybody gets into, interacts and are doing... physically doing themselves. Events are an incredible experience.”
Melmoth breaks events into several categories: infiltrations (like joining the Moonies); street theater; games in weird places and costume; and exploring bizarre environments. “I wouldn’t want to do anything else. It’s a great way to socialize. It’s a way of getting people together that isn’t based on money, commerce, or the desire to have sex or whatever else normally gets 42 people together.”

The Cacophony Society’s roots go back to a stormy night in January of 1977. Four friends went to Fort Point underneath the Golden Gate Bridge, to the place where in heavy weather the ocean’s waves would hit a concrete pad below in the surf, splash up 30 feet in the air, and then crash down on top of anyone standing there. The four clung tenaciously to the ruined iron railing that once secured the area while the waves threatened to drag them into the treacherous surf and certain doom. Later that night, huddled around a fire with hot drinks, they formed the Suicide Club. Its members were asked to “put their worldly affairs in order and live each day as though it was their last.” The Suicide Club was a totally exclusive, infamously secretive, underground club that bathed in rumors of illegal and dangerous doings.
Melmoth along with 40 others went on the first mass Suicide Club initiation. “We were blindfolded and taken to an undisclosed place (Fort Funston), led over a narrow beam (in a parking lot!”) then taken underground, given one match and told to find our way out. After three hours of total darkness, groping along, I saw this tiny light. I’m walking toward it with this person... holding her hand but I didn’t know who she was... had never seen her... and we’re walking towards this tiny light. Then this figure with a shroud blowing in the wind stepped into the middle of the light, it’s getting bigger and bigger as we get closer and closer. Then the figure walks away. And we’re outside. It was a pretty mind boggling experience. I decided at that point that that’s what I wanted to do. I wanted to start doing events right away.”
The Suicide Club was composed of college-age, college- educated, pre-career people, says Melmoth; people a little too old to be hanging out in the Haight and a little too young to be in business. Drugs were forbidden on events- in part because the event was supposed to produce “the trip” and in part to avoid hassles with police. “The group was just adventurous, took a lot of risks. For the first three years, it was great being a secret society. We could get by with doing a lot of things because no one knew about us. But it was very insulated and that’s what killed it,” he continues. “As the years went on we became too ingrown.
“Cacophony is a lot more open, especially to the world at large. People know who we are and what we’re doing. We communicate and get together with other groups to do events. That’s something the Suicide Club never did. Cacophony interconnects and intertwines with a bunch of smaller groups, serving as an umbrella to make things happen. By not being as secretive and paranoid as the Suicide Club was, we don’t have as much to fear. We’ve been able to integrate with a real mix of people who we wouldn’t be exposed to otherwise. And that’s great because out of ten people, maybe one has an instantaneous mindmelt with the group. They go, ‘hey, this is great. This is what I want to do.’ Then give events and open our minds up to new things.”

Gothic Nouveau Winter’s Ball
The notes of airy waltzes, steamy sambas, and pounding trash rock filter across the waters of a dark lake to call those who would and will to dance. Don your (warmest) finery, bring a snack to share, and a chair to the rotunda at the Palace of Fine Arts. Some dances will be taught so that all may engage in dancing regardless of the number of left feet. The music’s taped, the dress creative and the mood festive.

“From a social standpoint, Cacophony provides friends,” says M-Squared, as he takes a breather form dancing. Under the lit dome, four circles of dancers, some in baroque ball gowns and pantaloons, skip and sashay as if Louis XIV were holding court. “It’s a society, a kinship. In general, those in Cacophony are more open and sincere, that is, accepting and less judgmental. There’s an atmosphere of trust. We don’t judge on lifestyle, money, or looks. It’s the individual character and imagination that matters. You can be a real misfit or oddball and you’ll 43 be accepted.”
“There are some people who are really unusual and seem gifted in some way,” agrees Louise Jarmilowicz, an artist. She is the current editor of Rough Draft and specializes in such events as the Haute Trash Fashion Show and Midnight Laundry. “Through the group they can express that. They blossom. It may not be noticeable right away. That’s kind of fun. Every time someone comes in, they have their own imagination and ideas that no one else has ever thought about. It’s very exciting because there’s always an unknown factor.”
“Beyond that, if you’re shy like I am,” adds M-Squared, “Cacophony helps us challenge ourselves to participate.”
Bar-B-Que on the Edge
Meet: Bouncers Bar, 64 Townsend St.
In the spirit of previous Midnight Picnics, we will gather for a late night meal in a picturesque, industrial setting. This particular spot is located on the water (swimming is not suggested), where wild plants meet abandoned machinery. Bring food and drink, something to barbecue, and suitably appropriate tales to read or tell. Wear dark clothes.
— Rough Draft, May 1990
“I’ve always looked at this city as an urban environment, an urban playground,” says Melmoth. “You look at places that people don’t even think about, that are completely negative places in the daily life of commerce living. Those are the places that I look for- underground, behind buildings, on top of buildings, in abandoned buildings, in between freeways, under freeways. Places that you don’t even know exist. I think about what event I could give there.
“We were at an abandoned pier for a Midnight Bar-B-Que, you had to sneak out on to it, walk on this little trail along a fence then climb over a railing and go out on this rotting pier. About 150 yards away under the freeway overpass there was this encampment of six or eight guys, most of them Vietnam Vets, and I’m 95 percent sure, really heavily cranked up on speed. Speed freaks. They had all the markings. Really dangerous people. And we were
44 doing an event with 20 or 30 people on the pier!
“I knew that they might be a problem beforehand, so I just walked over and talked to them. I said, ‘Hey, we’re going to have 20 or so people walk through here around midnight, having a bar-b-que. How about it? Why don’t you come over later for a beer?” They left us alone.
Probably because they thought we were weirder than they were,” “It’s not for everybody.”
The BART Lounge
Hey there, you truly fabulous people! BART is going to Vegas! This will be a truly incredible evening of entertainment, when the evening commute BART train is transformed into a Las Vegas-styled lounge. We are looking for three sorts of people to join in:
1. If you have an act (comedy/magic/showgirl-routine, or any other entertainment), be prepared to perform.
2. If you want to be part of the atmosphere, come decked out in your best Vegas wear (Iowa house-wife, lounge lizard, eloping couple, cowboy, etc.).
3. If you want to dress “straight,” we do need plants to blend in with commuters. Remember, you in the audience are the ones we truly, truly love the most!
Cost: 85 cents if you get on & off at different but adjoining BART stations (ex: on at Powell, then go to Glen Park, off at Montgomery). Info: Dwayne & Dusty.

Chris couldn’t believe it. On his commute home from San Francisco to Concord, there was this woman in a bushy brown wig and slinky, pink lounge gown singing into a microphone with her partner, a tall blond-haired man in a white and gold tuxedo, while parading up and down the aisle of the BART car. A cigarette girl, more of a woman really, sauntered behind, two rats crawling across her wooden tray of goodies. Another man handed out a questionnaire: What kinds of acts would you like to see on the BART Lounge? Should we designate any BART cars as non-entertainment? Are you interested in becoming a BART Lounge entertainer? Suddenly, the cigarette girl was on Chris’s lap. “Those your rats?” he asked. She chuckled, “Naah, I just found them in the trash. Chocolate?”
Weirdness feeds on itself, goes the saying, and Cacophony upholds the theory. Everyone encourages, even competes, to be slightly more outrageous. “Have you ever been to Britain?” asks Alexander, Rough Draft’s first editor and producer of Ritual Lying, Midnight Picnics, and an Absinthe Literary Party. “Eccentrics, who are basically people with an idiosyncratic vision, are tolerated, even cultivated there. The U.S. is shifting towards a more centralized concept, everybody is thinking the same thing. I think there’s still room for people to be eccentric, for individualism. But less than there used to be. Maybe Cacophony provides that, a place where people who have their own strange vision can be together.”
Sometimes their strangeness attracts the REALLY strange, even too strange for Cacophony. “We tend to draw weirdos and kooks,” says M-Squared with a laugh. “And the authorities,” he laughs again. “But as long as people aren’t violent or too disruptive, we try to remember that we’re all equal. The main thing is that people are interested in getting together and experiencing events.”
In these serious times, the question often asked is: wouldn’t all that time and energy be better directed into the pursuit of something of significance? Alexander replies, “Cacophony is a place to be amateurish. There’s a real drive, even among the whimsical, to be very professional. And that can be intimidating. In Cacophony there’s definitely a playfulness.”
Alternative views, eccentrics, creative, accepting—of course, The City is the natural place for a group with such adjectives as these. “San Francisco has always been a boomtown, a place to go to make your dreams and indulge in your grandiose impulses,” says Larry Harvey, artistic creator of The Burning Man. He joined forces with the Cacophony Society to stage “Zone Trip #4” in the desert. “The City is a place where people are tolerated-in the old days because you had to, if you didn’t your neighbor might shoot you. It’s more of a small town than big city. Small enough to create a community, which also creates tolerance. You can come here and be whatever you imagine yourself. There’s so much diversity that co- exists here. Cacophony represents that—a society of free spirits. Where else would they exist? Cacophony is made by the same instincts that started the Beatniks and Hippies.
M-Squared concurs, “All the weirdos have come West.”
