Tumblr media
Ok I'm so obsessed with "Dai Nippon Gothic" and Suehiro Maruo's artwork and manga, I ended up getting a lot of inspiration from that to continue Akumu's mistery lore. I'm doing characters for the secret occult club investigating her death. They're called "Mugen no Kagi" (夢幻の鍵) or just "Fantastic Dream Key". I'll post the other members during the week bc I think each one deserves a post only about them, so here's the first one: Gou Kurogane
His backstory may contain some extreme/disturbing topics, be warned:
Gou is a 17 y.o teenager who is part of the secret occult club that investigates the entity Akumu. He is fascinated by death in every way. Coming from a traditional family and a lineage of samurais who served the Shogun, he follows a strict code of honor since he was a child. His family has a strange tradition of preserving the corpses of men who brought honor to the family in a sacred room in the house. His dream is to bring honor and die heroically in the war to have his body mummified alongside his ancestors, keeping the illusion that "war is honorable" due to his family tradition and the nationalist education given by the schools during the Showa period. He constantly has the job of serving food to the corpses and taking care of them as if they were alive.
Gou's father divorced his mother when Gou was very young and lost himself in alcoholism and prostitutes. Because of that he rarely sees his father and was raised most of the time by his older brother, who has a toxic and abusive relationship with him. Gou's brother is an imperial soldier, and constantly puts pressure on him, saying that "he will never bring honor to the family". Even though he gets excellent grades and being very good at swordsmanship, his brother invalidates his success, and nothing ever seems to be enough to please him. Although, Gou greatly admires his brother's position in the army, and dreams of becoming a soldier just like him and is deeply ashamed of his father and has vowed not to end up like him.
Despite all the problems and oddities, he is a very respectful and modest person in public, which makes people see him as someone exemplary in society and they don't even imagine his creepy side.
All this fascination with death made him start looking for more answers in black magic, and so he joined the secret occult club. Out of all entities and Yokai, he has the most interest in vengeful ghosts (like the Yurei type of ghost) and the Gashadokuro (giant skeletons made of the skulls of people who died in the battlefield). He is constantly desecrating warriors' graves and taking their skulls in the hopes of one day summoning a Gashadokuro. He doesn't usually work with curses and tends to focus more on summoning disturbed spirits and finding definitive ways to invoke each one of them, recording everything in his summoning notebook. He believes he can free Akumu's spirit and find out what happened to her.
*I don't condone the japanese imperial army and their actions nor the act of desecrating graves/disturbing the dead. The character is just inserted in this specific moment in history. Take his attitudes and traumas as a critique of how nationalism and extreme traditions affect people's minds in the worst way and how war is romanticized by some people.

30 for kurofai
30. things I wish you'd said (prompt list here)
The thing about being trapped here in Yama: if Fai just relaxes his mind and stops looking for words he recognizes, Kurogane could be saying anything. Isn't that better? He can get that dangerous look on his face, like he's seeing too much again, but the disjointed clutter of syllables that reaches Fai's ears is entirely open to interpretation.
So, "I miss those sweet things you cooked for us in Outo," Kurogane says when he scowls and points to the grilled fish left untouched on Fai's side of the tray. And then Fai can say something like, I know it's so hard for you here, Kuro-tan, away from the children and me with no ingredients to make you the fancy meals you deserve. Eat my fish instead, and Kurogane can look as suspicious as he likes but he'll never actually know.
Or some night returning from the battlefield, Fai bleeding lightly from a scratch on his shoulder, Kurogane will say, "That was some impressive shooting out there," as he gestures emphatically at the wounded arm. "Looks like you don't need magic after all," he'll add, and obviously he's frowning because he had to admit he was wrong about that. Fai wipes sweat out of his eyes and smiles to accept the compliment.
Or when he wakes up the following night, teeth clenched around nightmares he can't remember, and Kurogane is leaning over him in the gloom with an expression Fai doesn't want to interpret. "You don't have to face these things alone anymore," he could be saying— but no, he couldn't be. That's too much. That's absolution he doesn't have any right to give.
"You're almost done," he could say. There's no way he would know, but this is Fai's fantasy, after all. "And when you have to go, I'll make it quick."
Oh, Kuro-sama. You always know exactly what to say.

Tsubasa Chronicle Month 2023
- Day 4: Fai D Flourite
~
"What was he like?" Mokona asks, voice hesitantly tiny, but tinged with so much innocent curiosity that Fai can't even think to deny her an answer. He has no reason to, anyway.
Not anymore.
He hums, thinking back to the early parts of his childhood, before the valley, before so much death entered his and his brother's tiny world.
Thinks back to days of comfortable silences and tiny, warm hands in his. "He was kind," Fai says, a rueful smile lifting the corners of his lips. "And brave. I was… a timid thing back then - yes, Kurorin, it's possible, don't be so shocked - and Fai would… he'd always hold my hand and encourage me to do things, and he'd always be beside me through everything, no matter how scary it felt."
"So he was the elder of the two of you?"
Fai laughs, and he can feel the bridge of his nose stinging with the onset of tears. Ah, but he misses his brother so. "No. No, I'm the older one. Only by a few minutes, though. But for some reason, it never felt like it."
"I can see it," Syaoran says from where he's sitting cross-legged on the floor by Fai's feet. When Fai blinks down at him and tilts his head in question, the boy's shoulders straighten just a bit. His smile softens ever so slightly. "Fai-san feels like a big brother all the time. Kurogane-san, too, though he's an only child. It's just… maybe it's the age difference between us, but the two of you always felt like elder brothers to me… to us." He shrugs, grin going endearingly sheepish. "When you're not being all fatherly, that is."
And ah, ah, but Fai has drawn such a lucky hand, to have such a good, loving child to call his own. "Thank you for saying that, Syaoran-kun."
Yes, he's lost more family that he cares to remember, and more than once in his long life, but Fai looks around him now, takes them all in - Mokona snuggled in his lap, Kurogane by side, Syaoran next to them, Sakura here in spirit, always, as well as their other, missing children - and marvels at how lucky he is to be here and have it all.

People keep saying Kurogane Spanner is an asshole for this (and I mean. Yeah) but I know the whole truth
Tumblr media
I'm 99.99% sure he just says this whenever he sees any food that isn't purple.
Like the guy carries around his own purple food coloring.
Just like in his pockets. Like WHAT. That's dedication.
And sure, the restaurant DOES carry that purple drink as part of its regular menu (you can see several background characters drinking it in earlier scenes) but you cannot convince me they had enough purple food coloring just lying around for Spanner to make three or more servings of purple fried eggs with purple sauce. He has to have brought his own. I accept no other explanation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly the way Spanner just casually insults people while being, for all other intents and purposes, extremely polite, has the same energy as the time when I was a kid at a family reunion and a lady came up to me and asked "What do you think of my dress? :) :) :)" with like a spin and a twirl, showing off the pattern, and I responded with
"It's bad and ugly."
BECAUSE I THOUGHT ALL DRESSES FELT AWFUL AND LOOKED UGLY IT WASN'T ABOUT HER
At the time I didn't understand why she got pissed off (and I actually had to have it explained to me at length later).
Yeah it uhhhh took me a hot minute to figure out how to express myself and my thoughts in a way that didn't make other people want to kick my ass
Anyway whenever Spanner says some stupid shit it brings a tear of joy to my eye. Go off you fucking idiot (complimentary). One day you'll figure out how to talk to people and that day is not today. Iconic. I feel seen

"I will take you to the hideout." Said Ink. It's true, Rust can be stubborn about his metal arm, Destroyer because he always takes care of it. But now....he is been in his room all day trying to fix it. So it's time for someone to take a look at it.
"His arm really means a lot to him so he's not stupid. He's uh...." What is best way to say it? "He's really protective of it." Said Ink. "Anyway..let me lead you the way."
----- One hour later -----
Tumblr media
Rust is at his desk in his room, trying to his metal arm, Destroyer. He growls as he is using one hand to assemble the parts. But it's getting hard as he is now frustrated."Damn, that guy. Freaking shitty mage." He muttered about his opponent he fought part of a mission. He didn't think he would some damage to his Destroyer.
Then he heard a knock on the door.
"I'm busy!" Rust said.
"Rust! It's me! I brought Gajeel."
Rust pauses when he heard this. "Wait...Gajeel???"

Fai’s post eyeloss vibe shift:
Alright. So after eye loss Fai's official arts became like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Very beautiful, very detailed, very subtle but also - slutty energy. That eyepatch isn't helping at all. Also this is probably most kurofai shippy art we got - and it's around Infinity angst arc.
And it's not just art, but Fai's general behavior:
Tumblr media
You're really hopeless "Kurogane" - Fai plz stop with this vampire divorce thing. But since "no sex before divorce" is a thing in Clamp mangas, it's forgivable Infinity angst banging
Tumblr media
It's us fans, don't mind us, keep on going 👀
Tumblr media
Fai and his slutty blood drinking. It's all innate instinct to him to lick wounds like this so ho genes
And it's not just behavior, outfits too:
Tumblr media
What is that collar Fai plz wear more of it.
Tumblr media
Yes. Like that. Slutty outfit. Excuse the angst for a moment, this is Fai vibes appreciation post. I was about to say how that O-ring has no practical use but:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BDSM arc. Thank you for this Kurogane. I'm sure there's at least one fic that explores this concept. And it's not just infinity angst arc, it happens after it too:
Tumblr media
Fai asked for private room for him and Kurogane, undressed him and licked his blood while looking like that. Talk about being subtle. That half lidded eye tells enough. Fai get a ro - oh you already did :D good :D
He always had a bit of slutty energy around him, but how did it come to this I have no idea since -
Tumblr media
oh. I think i have an idea after all.
Kamui’s blood is responsible for Fai’s slutification! There’s no other - Fai signed up for slutty vampire divorce the moment he changed into a vamp!
Tumblr media
He woke up felling sassy and divorcey; them slutty vamp vibes be doing him good. For mental health purposes I’m not including “good morning Kurogane” panel. Seeing it once in lifetime is enough.
Tumblr media
Fai lying with sus face and slutty black turtleneck; and Kamui’s genes. Fai makes such obvious lying face that mostly consists of either half-lidded eyes + flat smile combo or plastic grin + closed eyes combo (like in that cursed panel).
So basically this one panel set Fai’s slutification in motion:
Tumblr media
Y’all just know it wouldn’t have been the same if he was given Subaru’s blood instead. Fai would half angst and half serve wet sad sad kitten looks; with Kamui’s blood he half angst and half serves slutty stubborn kitten looks. Infinity arc wouldn’t be nowhere near BDSM as it was. Because:
Tumblr media
Yes Syaoran, there’s something not normal about him. It’s the succubus slutty vamp vibes. Also it’s the same slutty black turtleneck Fai has later on; clear as day whose vibes he picked up along genes.
But Kamui went a step further and:
Tumblr media
What is that leg garter?? What purpose does it serve boy?? Looks? Being sexy? Do I even wanna know?
Canon facts that he’s the slutfier:
1) that one pic with Fai. It’s one of sluttiest official arts of Fai and Kamui contributed to it at least 80%; rest of 20% are Fai’s natural ho genes.
2) This twincest vibes:
Tumblr media
Sluttiest pic of trc!Subaru we have (maybe even tb/x!Subaru?) and it’s with Kamui. Plus them earrings. Coincidence - maybe but? It’s all Kamui’s vibes and he’s rubbing of on his not nearly innocent as he seems but still naive brother.
3) No thoughts, just whatever they have going on:
Tumblr media
Fuuma’s expression seems so tender here... and horny. He’s only like this around Kamui so? Also on unrelated note, how did Kamui feed for 3 years in acid Tokyo? Did he bite random people or maybe slashed enemies during fights or maybe - alright, sin stops here. Moving on.
So yea... it’s all in Kamui’s genes, no wonder Fai became a whore along with vampire :D I want main crew to meet with twins in TRC and have Fai thank Kamui for passing on his sassy genes :D Kurogane both suffered and benefited from those genes so he’d probably be conflicted about entire thing
Bonus:
TW: Seishirou
Tumblr media
Bastard rectangle priest with vampire fetish is giving Fai vibe check here: if he attacks and Fai yields - it’s Subaru’s blood (oh would he be mad as high hell, i’d pay to see it 👀🍿). If Fai retorts back - it has to be Kamui’s. Since Fai took defensive stance instead of dropping to his knees, bastard man safely concluded it is Kamui’s blood.
So to bring conclusion to this senseless 300% serious brainrot:

A Summoner Birthday
Special Quest: Kyuma
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This place is awesome, Lupin! I feels like a dream.
Tumblr media
Well, this is a world in a computer. But it's still breathtaking. Even David's enjoying himself.
You brought Kyuma and David to the virtual fairytale world for some fun.
Kyuma: I heard about how you guys fought some dragons in that castle you were sleeping in. I'd like to see that, too.
Lupin: Okay. Let's go there.
Kyuma: (happy) Thanks. Let's get changed first.
So, you, Kyuma, and David go to Arachne's shop before going to the castle of the sleeping beauty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow! This really looks like a fairytale castle. And I really like the clothes Arachne gave us. Mine's look just like the ones we wore at Valentines.
Lupin: (in princely regalia) She had a feeling you'd like it. Now come on, let's have a look around.
David moves around happily as if to say he's eager to see the castle as well.
You, Kyuma, and David look around the castle. Suddenly, you find some rouge wyverns flying around.
Kyuma: (readying his sword) I don't think they're happy to see us.
Lupin: (sword also at the ready) Well, this castle is pretty much their home. We just sort of walked in unannounced.
The wyverns all fly at you to attack.
After an almost long battle, the wyverns finally see you mean them no harm and let you into the castle.
Tumblr media
Thanks! Sorry for just barging in!
Lupin: Don't worry, we won't be any trouble! Now come on, let's see the rest of the castle.
Kyuma: Okay.
David also seems to agree.
So, you, Kyuma, and David go into the castle to see what else is in there. After looking around, you find a place in the castle you never knew about.
Tumblr media
Lupin: (surprised) Wow! I never knew about this place.
Kurogane's voice: It's new. I added it in case you want to see the castle again. You can even go swimming in it if you like.
Kyuma: I don't see why not. How about it, David?
David nods with excitement.
Lupin: I could use a dip. Let's go.
A little later, you and Kyuma get changed and go into the water.
Tumblr media
Ahh! The water's great. Kurogane really outdid himself this time. What do you think, Kyuma, David?
Tumblr media
Oh! Right. I guess it's nice.
Lupin: Is something wrong?
You notice that Kyuma looks jittery with David trying to comfort him.
Kyuma: Sorry. It's just... I think this is such a nice place. You and Wakan Tanka would love it.
Lupin: Yes, it would.
Kyuma: So... Why ask me to come here? You could have asked Wakan or the others to come here. But why just me and David?
You, wanting to assure him, goes to Kyuma and put your hands on his shoulders and therefore, David's arms.
Lupin: Because you are just as special to me, Wakan and the others just as we are special to you. I want you to know that. We all love you and want us all to be together. Though Wakan and I love each other the most, that doesn't mean we love you less.
Kyuma: Even though I'm almost always benched at every game?
Lupin: Even that.
Kyuma: I... I guess. Whenever I see you, Wakan, and the others, I just feel so happy. Not being able to play in games much doesn't seem that bad. Knowing that you all believe in me just warms my heart. It's a feeling I don't ever want to stop feeling. And I know David feels it, too.
David nods in agreement knowing that you and Kyuma love him, too.
In that moment, you three come close together, knowing that the future will be a happy when with this wamrth.
After enjoying the spring a little longer, you three get changed and begin to make your way back to Candyland to return home.

7. Post a snippet from a wip.
20. Do you prefer writing AUs or canon fics?
21. Do you prefer writing chaptered fics or one-shots?
38. What is your most self-indulgent posted story?
74. Do you have a fic you wish got a bit more love?
Well YOU don't ask for much, do ya? :P
7. Ghost snippet!
Fai was a lot of things—flighty, flamboyant, funny, sweet, even occasionally serious when he had to be—but Kurogane had never seen him look like this. His expression was almost angry, and his eyes snapped with some barely-restrained emotion. He pivoted on his heel and started marching away. “H-hey!” Kurogane protested. “Where are you going?” Fai didn’t answer, and Kurogane could do nothing but follow him. Fai went straight to the headmistress’s office and threw open the door without knocking. She was on the phone, but she hung up when she saw them without even making an excuse to her caller. “What can I do for you, Fai-sensei?” “You really think I’m going to let him go without me?” Fai shouted.
20. AU or canon? hmmmmm very depends on the fandom. Obviously TRC is my main jam and I've dabbled with lots of different things in that fandom. My old HP stuff from my youth was almost all AU. ON the other hand, a lot of the fandoms where I've only dabbled and written one or two fics tend to be canon(ish), I think because I only really start exploring AUs after I've spent enough time to go through some of my canon concepts.
.... you know, I actually think my favorite thing is probably canon AU-type stuff. Like, exploring how canon could go differently if X or Y. Final answer.
21. Longfic or one-shots? Listen. I don't know how to shut the fuck up. I have written a lot of one-shots, actually, but I am a long-form writer at heart. I want to build things over time. I'm a friends (or enemies)-to-lovers and slowburn ho. Give me chapters or give me death.
38. What is your most self-indulgent posted story? Oh, definitely Drinks and Subtle Things (Rockstar AU). I did not choose a focus character and chose all of them. I gave all of them just, so many fucking issues, and then I covered them in tattoos and oral sex about it.
Runner up: All the Faults You've Left Behind, closely followed by the other fics where I wrote Kurogane x Doumeki. I remain the only person who has ever used that tag on AO3. Just me, paddling my one-person kayak merrily down the stream.
74. Do you have a fic you wish got a bit more love? I could say my overly-long fic for the 2022 KuroFai Olympics, or grump about how few people leave comments in general these days especially in a fuckoff gigantic fandom like Critical Role, but I'm trolling tonight. I think more people should read my absolutely idiotic Holitsuba-verse porn. Woe, Home Care and Sensei and Souffles be upon ye.
Wanna ask me about my fic? Here's a list of questions. Anonymous is fine with me.

My rough theory on Haibara & the supporting character woman in Detective Conan Movie 26: Kurogane no Submarine
The Reason Why Haibara Was Crying In Tears & More
feat. my own made-up assumptions & delusions XD
* mainly based on the official preview videos, NOT the actual movie!
* Note: I originally wished to make this post earlier and more organized, but time flied OTL and now the movie is already at theater in Japan XD I think I will NOT try to read the movie spoilers (by fans) myself anytime soon, though..!
.
First, we all know Haibara = Shiho = Sherry is the main character for this movie, who is an ex-BO member, who lost her big sister Akemi.
Tumblr media
Apparently her name is Naomi Argento, so I’ll call her just Naomi!
The very “supporting” character that appears in the previews more often than Ran and the Detective Boys trio... I wonder why! So suspicious :’))
To me, Naomi feels like Akemi & Elena Miyano, Haibara’s big sister & mother. At first, I didn’t know her name was Naomi, and now there’s even more similarity with Akemi & Elena asdfg
Tumblr media
The Europol woman who was killed (probably) by Gin has the (almost) same hair color & forelock as Naomi’s, so they might be “related”...as (bio) sisters :’)))
Maybe, the murdered Europol woman is Naomi’s big sis. The engineer Naomi developed the new system related to the security camera & face authentication in order to find out who killed her big sis - so that she could take revenge on the culprit(s) - Black Organization = BO. However, the BO obviously hated the new system already. That’s why BO kidnapped the engineer Naomi, and the battle or war came to begin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m kinda 50:50 (lol) if Naomi = Pinga (the new BO member to die for this movie) or not. I mean, Pinga seems to have some similar hair color (& braid) to Naomi’s...idk XD
Besides, Pinga appears in the movie poster, even if s/he barely appears in the previews...while Naomi isn’t(?) in the poster, even if she appears in the previews quite a LOT (again, more often than Ran!). It looks like Naomi is even staying together with Haibara after both got kidnapped. I know the new BO member is more important than some supporting character, but still lol
Tumblr media
(yeah, I think that’s Naomi on the upper right!)
If Naomi = Pinga, then Naomi & Haibara would share even more parallels - the active BO member now totally betrays BO after their big sis got murdered by BO. This adds even more dramatic elements, so I high-key wish it happen for real tbh :’)))
Vermouth knocked Naomi out and stole some secret info from her, without killing her right away. But it might be that Pinga was very secretive like Vermouth or RUM, and so BO members never knew Pinga’s daily or real face = Naomi. If this is true, then Naomi was so unfortunate that she got picked up as the targeted engineer? asdfg Or it’s just destined to happen at some point from the start, cuz the new system is that dangerous and threatening to BO...
Q. But, if Naomi = Pinga, then how about her own face getting recognized by the new system...?
A. I have no idea :’))) She’s the engineer for it, so maybe she exceptionally corrupted some data in regards to herself with the administrator mode? Ooops XD
Tumblr media
Maybe here Naomi is ranting to Haibara about how much she wanted to take revenge on Gin and destroy BO for her big sis’ death on her own (the new system), how frustrating it is that her plan got completely ruined, and that there’s no hope left now, cuz BO kidnapped them to kill them soon. She probably thought Haibara could never understand her feelings, oops :’)
Tumblr media
There’re some lines from Haibara in the previews, like “I’ve changed...so, have faith!”, as if...she’s trying to encourage “someone” that a BO member is still able to make a choice to change their life for the better in the light, no longer living as a criminal in darkness, or such :’))
I mean, current Haibara is supposed to be (acting like) a 7 years old “kid” and hide her actual identity from almost everyone else. I genuinely don’t see why she would say that kind of line to “a non-BO, ordinary person” who she just met as fellow kidnapped victims, much less to any of the few people who already know her true identity.
To persuade Naomi who gave up, Haibara revealed her personal backstories in regards to her own big sis and parents. And how much her life has changed thanks to Agatha, Conan = Shinichi, Ran, the Detective Boys trio, and so on. And how OP Conan is XD that they, especially Conan, would never give up on her and would definitely come to save her, no matter what. Naomi quickly understands in regards to Conan cuz that young boy suspiciously dodged the new system too well, perhaps XD
In fact, Haibara low-key gave up, too, after getting kidnapped (”Bye-bye...Edogawa Conan-kun.”). But she was not alone there, really, and Naomi in despair reminded of her past depressed self and also how she still has been saved by others several times. Now Naomi got impressed to see the girl being genuinely hopeful in a serious manner, even if she looks / is much younger than herself.
After their long and deep talk, Naomi finally agrees to cooperate with Haibara and try to get out of there “alive” together. Two is better than one, and doing something to survive is better than doing nothing but just waiting for death, right? Not to mention both used to be BO members and so have some more than zero(0) (lol) info and knowledge about BO! Once they get to meet Conan, Naomi might be protected by FBI or such (and/or live in the Kudo residence with Subaru = Akai XD near Haibara’s current home ;w;).
However...of course it’s not easy to run away from BO and their traps, after all, especially when even RUM is actively involved. At some point, only one of the two could possibly survive in some super evil situation, and Naomi sacrifices herself to protect Haibara, so that Haibara would not die right there.
If Naomi betrays Haibara and makes her die alone, then both will simply get to die in vain, and she knows it. Even if Naomi alone survives and escapes somehow, realistically she (probably, oops) has NO remaining family members or friends or colleagues she can safely rely on right away, much less against BO - unlike current Haibara, who has her safe place and kind people to go back to.
Besides, Haibara and her ally Conan have some amazing / potential colleagues from Shinichi’s own OP parents, the great(?) detective Kogoro, Japanese Police, FBI, CIA, MI6 (soon lol), etc etc, who could actually stand against BO. That’s why Naomi decided to leave everything to Haibara - even the revenge on BO. Naomi entrusted her life to Haibara, and Haibara is of course so sad :( She got attached to her, only to lose her so soon, because of BO again :((
Tumblr media
(This crying scene might be when Haibara just realized she got kidnapped by BO, but shhh XD)
# Naomi was like Haibara herself - she was an active & capable member of BO, but she got mad at Gin/BO for killing her big sis, and so she fully betrayed BO in the end. The two could’ve been not only great colleagues but also close friends and even semi-family sisters who share such a similar life...
It might be also that both didn’t really realize their product (APTX4869 / the new system) would cause the horrible chaos in the world that much until it’s too late.
# Naomi was like the big sis Akemi - she’s (probably) older than teenager Haibara/Shiho, so she might start to see Haibara like a little sister. And/or Haibara sees Akemi from Naomi first, more and more (strong and weak, smiling, actually kind, etc). Naomi eventually died to save Haibara from BO - similar to Akemi, who tried to take Haibara out of BO.
Haibara might scream “Big sis!!!” out loud, and Naomi would get surprised and smile at her “like an angel”, right before she dies or they get separated, possibly ;_;
# Naomi was like the mother Elena or an aunt - she’s probably in 20s or 30s, and her big sis might be in 30s (or 40s?), while Haibara is in like 7 years old body. If Naomi’s big sis lived an average ordinary life, she might’ve had a child of that age, and then Naomi would’ve been an aunt for the child. Haibara was like a niece to Naomi because of the body age gap, which made her even more protective of her. Or even like her own child, if she were not a criminal.
Naomi might leave some last words of advice and encouragement to Haibara - “like a mother”; don’t push everyone else from yourself, don’t try to do everything by yourself alone (like I did), get along with good people (like you’ve been recently), go survive and fight & punch BO in some way (for yourself and me) together with Conan, achieve an ordinary happy long life, and such, perhaps.
Tumblr media
...and Haibara did her absolute best as much as possible indeed, not only for herself but also not to make Naomi’s will meaningless. She struggled and almost despaired in the last minute, cuz at that point she’s alone and reached her (physical) limit - until Conan came to rescue and finally found her (= no longer alone).
Haibara reunited with Ran, who is like Akemi or “an angelic big sis” but never going to die.
Tumblr media
I wondered for a second if the color is orange overall here because of the sunset in the early evening - but nope, it’s probably from all the fire in the background asdfg The introduced cool facility and ships got exploded and wrecked again XD My point is, I believe this scene is from the ending part = at night / dawn, after Haibara got rescued by Conan and almost everything got wrapped up somehow. (maybe) Ran is hugging Haibara tightly like that, and Haibara is making such emotional faces.
PS. I’m so curious if Haibara would actually take the APTX4869 pill = become an adult(?) and wear dead Naomi’s clothes for hours...or maybe the staff low-key deceived us, and she never takes any pill lol XP
PS. I read some complaints (long ago, not Tumblr) if both Akai and Amuro really had to appear (again) even in the movie where Haibara is supposed to be the main. But, when you think about it...both are deeply related to Akemi; Akai & Akemi were tragic lovers and cousins, and Amuro & Akemi were childhood friends. Additionally, Akai is watching & protecting Haibara now, and Amuro recently(?) tried to “take”(...) her under his wings, out of BO, even if now he thinks she died then.
PS. If my guesses were so wrong here, then welp, my guesses were wrong, I guess uwu XP
Thanks for reading my long, incoherent ramblings!! :D

It's almost strange seeing Fai use his magic after all this time, and I can’t even enjoy it knowing what it cost
But oh how the spell he casts here also looks like an eye as it takes them into Evil Wolverine’s Evil Branding Department HQ
Like they're all being carried by the exact piece of Syaoran that he left behind (Fai's Eye) for them to use
Tumblr media
Ohoho
Ok despite everything I do like Evil Wolverine looking completely different to normal. Evil Wolverine bleeding? Evil Wolverine almost looking scared as they show up?
WONDERFUL. Lovely sight. 10/10, only improved by Kurogane and Lava Lamp leaping into the air to attack him instantly.

Title: it's warm and real and bright
Pairing: Kurogane/Fai
Rating: T
Word Count: 2.3k
Summary: Post-Canon AU where Kurogane & Fai settle down in Nihon Country after the final battle with Fei-Wong Reed. Fai & Kurogane have been working on resettling Suwa for nearly a year when Fai comes to some sudden realizations. Resettled Suwa AU. [Written for KuroFai Olympics 2022, Team Blessed, Prompt: I See the Light]
[Read on Ao3]
Kurogane presses a hand into the small of his back and Fai stops, hands stilling almost instantly in the air in front of him. The glowing runes encircling his fingers flicker with barely-kept magic as Fai turns his head to look at him, only to be met with a weary and disapproving glare.
“You’ve tweaked it enough for the night,” Kurogane says, in a tone that implies less of a suggestion, more of a command.
Fai sighs and flexes his fingers, the violet runes dissipating from the air in front of him as he seals off the last of the spell.
He would typically brush Kurogane off and send him on his way because Kurogane, in reality, knew close to nothing about constructing and maintaining active magical barriers, but this time, he thinks perhaps Kurogane might be right.
Fai closes his eyes for a moment and rubs a hand over his face. He’s exhausted - has been exhausted for days now. He’s been adjusting the runework on the barrier surrounding Suwa nearly every day since they’d first set foot back in the realm all those months ago. What had started out as a simple and easily-maintainable barrier surrounding their camp while Kurogane and a few of his men began the process of rebuilding had now blossomed into a complex set of runework that bartered protection for what had quickly become a small village.
It’s only when Fai notices that Kurogane is still standing behind him that he cracks his eyes open once more and turns to face him fully.
“I’ll be done in a little while,” Fai assures.
“You’ll be done now,” Kurogane says, and Fai quirks an eyebrow at him.
“Is that an order, my lord ?” He grins when Kurogane scowls at him, and does not protest as Kurogane pushes insistently at his back, leading him toward the hallway where both of their chambers were located.
He stops just before the threshold to Fai’s rooms, his hand still warm against Fai’s back and Fai can practically see him mulling over something in his head as they both stand there silent in the hall.
Kurogane’s jaw tightens, closing his eyes for a brief moment and huffs out a breath, slowly retracting his hand from Fai’s person.
He almost seems reluctant to leave me alone, Fai thinks, quickly running through the possibility that Kurogane might be privy to a threat to the realm that he isn’t letting on, but he halts that train of thought almost immediately as Kurogane moves closer once more. Fai nearly stops breathing as Kurogane sets a gentle hand on his shoulder and pulls him close, resting their foreheads against one another for a long moment.
“Go to sleep,” Kurogane says, and then he turns and vanishes into the shadowed darkness of the hallway.
----
Kurogane is already gone when Fai wakes in the morning, as he often is, so Fai sets about brewing himself a cup of morning tea before he gets to work on checking and updating the barrier. The seasons are beginning to change outside and Fai is distinctly excited to see what autumn will be like here. The morning air is cool and crisp - a stark contrast to the absolutely sweltering summer he’s had to endure in the last few months.
When his tea is finished brewing, he takes a few moments to stand outside on the porch and bask in the morning sun, reveling in the pleasant breeze and the lingering scent of fresh cut cedar. Perhaps it would be a good morning to take a walk around the grounds and make sure all of his rune stones were still intact.
He finishes his tea and checks on the runework he’d sealed off last night, tweaking it just a bit more before heading off to his chambers to change for the day. On his way out of the house, while he picks up his logbook, his eye catches on the small bowl of peaches on the kitchen table and he gets an idea. Not five minutes later and he’s out the door, logbook and a small linen-wrapped lunch for Kurogane tucked under his arm.
----
Leaves crunch under his feet as he approaches the worksite Kurogane said he’d be helping with today. The trees surrounding the small village have started to turn a beautiful shade of auburn and Fai can’t help but feel warm, even in the early chill of fall, as he catches sight of Kurogane standing in the shade of one of them - that well-known scowl present on his face as he surveys the parchment in his hands.
His brow is furrowed, his lips set in a tight line - he looks stressed, Fai thinks, something’s clearly not going according to plan .
“Lunchtime,” Fai calls as he gets close, in the hopes of cheering him up at least a little bit.
“Later,” Kurogane bristles, not even deigning to look up at him.
“Now,” Fai says, draping himself over Kurogane’s shoulders and dangling the lunch he’s prepared for him in front of his face to obstruct his view of the parchment, “You deserve a break, Kuro-sama.”
Kurogane turns in his arms to face him and Fai shoots him a mischievous grin. He moves to disentangle himself from Kurogane, only to be stopped by a firm hand settling itself on his hip, keeping him in place. And he’s suddenly very distinctly aware of how close Kurogane is to him.
Fai flushes, his cheeks growing hot as Kurogane looks at him, a small smile curving on Kurogane’s lips as he leans down, warm breath ghosting over Fai’s ear.
“Is that an order, my prince ?” Kurogane says, just barely loud enough for him to hear, and Fai nearly stops breathing. He pulls back abruptly, a nervous chuckle slipping out of him as he smiles back. Kurogane just gives him a long look, still smiling softly as he takes the bag from Fai’s hands.
He leaves not long after and tries not to notice how Kurogane’s men bow their heads to him as he leaves, almost as if he were also their lord. Fai tries desperately to focus on inspecting the barrier runes for the rest of the afternoon, but instead his thoughts keep circling back to Kurogane - the warmth of his hands, the light in his smile, the rough timbre of his voice. And he does not get much work done for the rest of the morning.
--
Fai hurries back to the house in the early afternoon, tossing his logbook aside as he enters the house, and rushes into the sitting room. Quickly, he settles himself down on the pillow in front of his large oval mirror, swiping his hand along the frame and focusing his magic into his fingertips. It takes a few moments for the mirror-glass to light, warbling indistinctly until his magic finds a familiar connection reaching out to him and latches on.
Sakura’s face lights up in the mirror and she gives him an enthusiastic wave. Fai lets out a long breath and waves back, grinning as he settles back into his pillows.
“Fai! It’s so nice to see you again! I’ve missed you!” Sakura says, her voice only slightly distorted by their tenuous connection across dimensions.
“I’ve missed you too,” Fai chuckles, and they spend a little while catching up.
“How’s Kurogane been?” Sakura asks, and Fai catches a mischievous glint in her eye - which he chooses to ignore for the time being.
“He’s been busy - it seems like more and more people just keep coming every day,” Fai says, absently glancing over at the runestones he’s left unfinished on the table and wondering if he’ll have enough time to finish them tonight and very much not thinking about Kurogane’s hand on his hip, “He’s been handling it well.”
Sakura gives him a look, like she knows he’s not telling her everything and he just smiles at her placatingly.
“Has Syaoran visited as of late?” He asks, trying to change the subject.
Sakura smiles wistfully and Fai notices her worrying the hem of her tunic between her fingers.
“He was able to stay for a day last week, but -” Sakura looks away, a small frown flitting across her face. Fai’s hands instinctively move to reach out to comfort her, as he would have back when they were all together, but he stills them and presses his nails into his palm.
Sakura does not continue and Fai waits a long moment before unfurling his hands and smoothing them along the hem of his tunic.
“It’s difficult to be apart from someone you love so dearly,” Fai says, and Sakura looks at him, a sad smile turning up the corners of her lips as her eyes start to water. She nods and closes her eyes, placing one hand over her heart as she takes a deep breath. Fai allows her her silence, patiently waiting for her to compose herself.
“I suppose that’s why you chose to stay in Nihon,” Sakura says, her voice still a bit rough.
Fai looks at her, jaw dropping open just the slightest bit. He recovers quickly, laughing.
“I stayed in Nihon because Kuro-rin didn’t know the first thing about barrier magic and he needed help,” Fai waves a dismissive hand and continues on, “How have your lessons been going, by the way? Has that high mage of yours been treating you well?”
Sakura arches a brow at him, but lets the topic drop.
 ----
Fai ends the call with Sakura with a promise that they’ll talk again soon. Sakura just gives him a knowing smile and waves as he moves his hand over the mirror, the image of her dissipating into the air like smoke. He sits with himself for a few moments, his hands balled up in his lap and his eyes closed, listening to the far-off sounds of the village he and Kurogane had built together. Part of their conversation still sticks with him though.
I chose to stay in Nihon because Kurogane needs my help.
I chose to stay in Nihon because Kurogane asked me to.
Fai’s eyes slowly open and he stares at his hands as his heart makes a concerted effort to beat itself out of his chest. Kurogane hadn’t asked him to stay, had he? Now that he thinks about it, Fai can’t quite remember a moment in which Kurogane had asked him to stay.
The three of them - Syaoran, Kurogane, and himself - had landed in Nihon, they’d spent time at the palace together, they’d talked about Syaoran’s plans for his future travels, they’d talked about Kurogane’s plans now that he’d been able to return home for good, and when it came time for Syaoran to move on, Fai had just…stayed. It hadn’t been until after Syaoran left that Tomoyo had even brought up the concept of resettling Suwa.
I chose to stay in Nihon because Celes no longer exists.
Fai gently places his palm over his heart and takes in a deep breath. His gaze flits to the room around him, all of the little markings of home that surround him, from his favorite mug sitting next to Kurogane’s on the kitchen table to the practice sword lying haphazardly half-sheathed in the corner, right next to his own set of neatly stacked notebooks.
I chose to stay in Nihon because…
In the distance, Fai catches the distinct sound of Kurogane’s footsteps on the path leading up to the house. He pauses, his mind going blank as he listens to the front door slide open and shut, listens to the soft shuffle of Kurogane taking off his shoes at the door, listens to him move about their home in the easy quiet of this late afternoon.
Kurogane steps into the kitchen, framed by the warm light of the setting sun behind him in a way that makes his skin shimmer like gold. His sleeveless tunic is covered with patches of mud and wayward leaves and Fai’s breath catches in his throat.
Oh.
Kurogane raises an eyebrow at him as he moves further into the kitchen, pouring himself a glass of water and leaning against the kitchen counter.
I chose to stay in Nihon because of him .
“What’s up with you?” Kurogane grunts, rifling through their cupboards, “Did something happen while I was--”
Fai cuts him off by nearly slamming into him, his hands bracing themselves on the counter on either side of Kurogane’s body. Kurogane turns abruptly, a look of confused concern on his face. Fai takes that as his opportunity to quickly take Kurogane’s face in both of his hands and pull him down into a rough kiss. It takes only a brief second for Kurogane to match him, meeting him with a fervor all his own.
Fai smiles against Kurogane’s lips, and it almost feels like a weight has been lifted from his shoulders as he pulls back, resting his forehead softly against Kurogane’s. There are unshed tears in his eyes, threatening to fall as he gently takes Kurogane’s hand in his own and entwines their fingers for the first time. Fai knows he’s being dramatic, but he can’t quite bring himself to care.
“I lov-” Fai starts, but his voice catches in his throat. He huffs, pulling away just slightly so he can look Kurogane in the eye, only to be met with the warmest smile Fai thinks he’s ever seen on Kurogane’s face. Kurogane’s fingers tighten over his own and he pulls Fai back, closer, until he can press his lips against Fai’s hair.
“I know,” Kurogane says, low and quiet, as if it’s a secret that only the two of them share, and he kisses him again.

Kashimo Hajime--Being the strongest is not enough
The character analysis no one asked for based on loose interpretations from like three manga panels.
Idk. There’s just something I really like about Kashimo.
Tumblr media
With Hakari it’s more immediately obvious what’s to love because he’s just cool af and Gege takes quite a bit of time to develop him as a character.
Tumblr media
But with Kashimo, we are left to guess.
We’re given just enough information to get our imaginations going to fill in the blanks and self-insert.
We know he’s a ruthless sorcerer from the past I cannot help myself I love ruthless characters who lived his life challenging himself by going up against strong opponents.
Tumblr media
When looked at his motivations from a face-value perspective, Kashimo’s motivation looks basic af. After all, he looks like someone who enjoys the thrill of fighting for the sake of fighting.
Tumblr media
But is there more beneath the surface to one who chose to have his soul reincarnate in a new era so that he could go up against the strongest sorcerer?
Fighting as a metaphor to becoming the best version of yourself
For some reason this reminds me soooo much of Dragon Ball. My memory around the exact unfolding of the events is fuzzy, it’s been at least two decades since I last saw this particular episode, after all.
But in one of the first tournament arcs in Dragon Ball, Master Roshi, Goku’s mentor, disguises himself as Jackie Chun so that he can go up against Goku. His goal is to defeat Goku because he fears that if Goku wins, he might become complacent, think he has reached his peak, and settle for mediocrity as a warrior.
Tumblr media
While Roshi does defeat Goku after a though battle, Roshi was not aware that even if Goku had won, his fighting spirit, his desire to challenge himself and become stronger would have prevailed and prevented him from leading a mediocre life as a warrior.
This trope is actually very popular in Shonen manga where certain characters are shown to be obsessed with fighting to become the best they can be.
Tumblr media
This is actually one of my favorite panels of Kurogane and I will overuse it like there’s no tomorrow, especially if the shoe fits.
Again, when you look at the trope at face-value, it looks like it’s about fighting for the sake of fighting.
But when you dig beneath the surface, it’s about fighting for the sake of challenging yourself to become a better version of yourself. It’s about transcending your limitations by going up against others who are better than you are.
Tumblr media
So at its core, you have characters whose philosophy of life revolves around self-improvement.
Characters like Kashimo are characters that are driven by a desire to never settle for less than they know they can achieve--and even if they are not sure they can achieve something, they push themselves to try and go beyond their limitations anyways.
But more importantly, from my perspective, it goes back to what the character thinks overcoming said larger-than-life challenges says about them as a person. It’s almost as though they are seeking to validate their existence not just through high stakes battles, but through what it means for them to be the victor.
What’s interesting to me is the idea that even if Kashimo were to defeat Sukuna, I headcanon Kashimo would not be satisfied in a similar way that Ryu is perpetually dissatisfied. They are both seeking power for the sake of power after all.
Rather, I would not be surprised if Kashimo would go looking for the next big opponent to validate himself because he is seeking validation from outside of himself.
Which begs the question: when is enough enough?
Honestly, there is nothing wrong with self-improvement unless your only reason for personal growth is because you are bored.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kashimo is also bored af
The problem with seeking to defeat “the strongest” to validate your existence is that you inevitably get to a point where you are the strongest. The thrill of seeking a higher level of existence ceases to be because, well... you “arrived”.
Which is kind of what happened to Kashimo...
Tumblr media
And one of the things that really strikes me about Kashimo when we’re first introduced to him is that he is shown as someone who is sulking because he’s too strong in comparison to the sorcerers he has killed.
What’s more... that thumb... Is he anxiously chewing on his thumb? Like a kid with a nervous tick?
Tumblr media
So what this tells me about Kashimo is that what drives him is his inability to sit still and be with who he is. He cannot sit still long enough because every moment sitting idle is time he could be validating his existence through high stakes battles and growing from them.
In other words... he’s bored af and it is through high stakes battles that he comes alive--he is literally an adrenaline junkie.
Tumblr media
Seriously, if you go looking through the chapters with him in them, you are likely to see him smiling when he realizes his opponent has a nice trick up his sleeve that might prove to be a challenge.
Tumblr media
So with Kashimo, it isn’t just about the excitement from the battle, but what it means for him to be able to fight a strong and unkillable opponent.
What’s more. I just can’t get over the idea that Kashimo, a man who had once become bound by the limitations of a decaying body, is now occupying a vessel in the prime of his youth.
And that’s actually one of my absolute favorite things about Kashi-chan. The fact that he is so eager and excited to go all out now that he’s in a body that can keep up with how energetic he is.
Tumblr media
Ok that was actually an analysis based on 14 panels featuring Kashi-chan, not 3. But I’ve been fangirling about Kashi for some time now and today I felt like writing and so voilá.
I feel like I am only scratching the surface as per usual and there’s more to say about him but... this is good enough for now.
If you read this, I hope you’re enjoying Kashi as much as I am.

we're all made of glitter and nightmares (and baby, we thrive)
Tsubasa Chronicle Month 2023
- Day 14: Meeting Your Other Self
~
“Oh, yeah, no, this is definitely weird.”
“You’re tellin’ me. I’m startin’ to think I might be going a bit insane here.”
Kurogane blinks, and yes, there’s that headache that was threatening to make his day worse.
And okay, so maybe he’s being a little bit hypocritical, being so damn startled to see his own face in this new world they’ve landed on, especially since his entire current family has at least one double each that he’s either met or heard about (or started the journey with and lost along the way, but it still hurts to think about, even now). He knows it was bound to happen at some point. It’s just. Yeah, it’s weird.
“Who’s the blond?” the other Kurogane asks, raising a pointed eyebrow in Fai’s direction, eyes sparkling with interest in a way Kurogane hates to think his own have ever done.
Fai chooses that moment to raise his gaze from where he’s been looking through a collection of crystals (“They’re perfect for casting spells, Kuro-pon, and as protection charms.”) a street vendor’s selling. His eyes widen when he sees Kurogane’s companion. (Fuck. Hell no.) “My husband,” he tells his other self, as pointedly as he can, turning away from Fai to look at the man straight on. “And I ain’t sharing, before you get any ideas.”
Sudden laughter from right next to him startles him. “Oh, that’s good to know,” Fai says (and just when the hell did he get here so fast?), leaning on Kurogane’s good shoulder, amusement clear on his face. “Though I’ll admit it would be interesting.”
“No.”
The other Kurogane laughs, hard. “Don’t worry, don’t worry. Stop looking like you’re gonna murder me. I have no interest in married men. As pretty as they might be.”
“Aw,” Fai coos, and Kurogane’s forgotten how condescending he could sound when he wanted to. “Kuro-sama thinks I’m pretty.”
Kurogane rolls his eyes. “Shut the hell up. Did you finish looking at your sparkly rocks?”
Fai nods, and turns his most blinding smile at this world’s Kurogane. “Please excuse my husband, he’s a bit brutish when he feels threatened. (“The hell I am!”) I’m Fai.” He stretches out his hand in a polite introduction.
The other Kurogane raises his eyebrow again, before nodding and shaking Fai’s hand firmly. “Youou.” And ah, doesn’t that feel like a gut punch, hearing his own name so easily spoken out loud. “I’m guessing you guys aren’t from around here.”
Fai sways from side to side, hands clasped behind his back, lashes fluttering just so. The picture of innocence. Kurogane snorts just at the image. “You’re right, we’re not. Would You-chan (“You-chan?? What the fu-”) mind showing us around?”
So yeah, Kurogane’s headache is not going away anytime soon.
~
(“Honestly, Kuro-sama, being jealous of your own self, how unbecoming.”
“Shut the hell up. Who’s jealous?”)

@kurogane-redfox approached: "Freed, I may have overheard that yer lookin' for a certain book,"
Tumblr media
Which book was that only Freed (and seemingly, Gajeel) knew. The Dragon held said tome within the grasp of his gloved left hand. It was from his personal collection which was the only reason he'd not yet held it out toward his F R I E N D. While the two of them gave one another crap from time to time, Freed was one of the few people who knew quite a lot about the Dragon and his past. "This is from my PERSONAL collection of books. Which, since ya haven't visited my place yet ya haven't seen the size of, but that's fine. I'm home for a while to rest from my last job so yer welcome anytime."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Freed blinked once; he was always looking for new books to read so it was time to discover which one Gajeel was referring to here exactly. Upon laying his eyes on the exemplar in question, a shimmer of different expression flew across the captain's face for a split second.
                         -Ah.
Where could Gajeel have heard it from? Not many people came to mind, though in this particular case he was glad that it came to the iron dragon slayer's attention and not somebody else's considering the content of the book offered to his taking. Had they talked about this before? They must have. The green-haired man wasn't going to ask which aspects of the book had drawn Gajeel's attention, not right now. Was it the genre? Had it been a spontaneous purchase? Something else entirely?
Every once in a while Freed indulged in a well-written crime novel and in this particular case there may or may not be a quite raunchy gay romance intertwined with the story even. Of course that was not the sole reason for his interest, ahem.
"Ah- it had almost escaped my memory." Had it really? The captain cleared his throat softly as he took the book from the other man's grasp. "Thank you, I'll be sure to notify you once I finished it and it goes without saying that I have to visit your place very soon. I have deferred doing so considerably too long. Perhaps I will simply stop by as soon as I finished this book, so I can hand it back to you and finally get to see your collection."

Kurogane/Fai #46
…out of envy or jealousy.
Fai was a lot of things - a powerful wizard turn vampire turned wizard again, a prince twice over, an adoptive father, a great cook, a bit of a flirt, more than a bit of a trouble magnet, and more on top of all that. What Fai was not, however, was secure enough in himself to remain unfazed by handsome men noticing how handsome his Kuro-sama was. Apparently. It surely wasn't a trait he would have added to his list of character flaws before now, watching some bounty hunter whose name Fai had forgotten laugh and smile at Kurogane as he handed over his broadsword to be inspected by Fai's ninja.
The subtle raise of eyebrows told Fai that Kurogane was impressed by something, either the weapon's craftsmanship or the way the hunter had handled it. Maybe both. It made Fai's face and chest burn unpleasantly. He was aware enough of himself and the world to recognize the feeling as jealousy, but not so mature, even with all of his years, to set it aside.
Before he had the chance to reign himself in and realize what a bad idea what he was about to do was, Fai was on his feet and walking briskly towards the pair of swordsmen.
"Hyuu!" Fai chirped, sliding up next to Kurogane. "What a large sword! Almost too big, ne?"
For his part, the hunter laughed loudly and genuinely. "Aye, she's a mighty large blade," he agreed. "But with all these armored beasties having the extra weight sure does make my job a lot easier!"
Kurogane hummed and nodded, handed the broadsword back. "Each blade has its own purpose," he added. Then, with a smirk usually reserved for sparing fields, said, "I have to admit, it does seem extremely weighted. More of a hammer than a sword."
Again, the hunter laughed and readily agreed. Fai felt the heat in his chest twist sharply. He didn't like how friendly this man was.
"So, friends, where are you all off to now?" he asked. "Bunch of oddly dress fellows like you can't be doing anything but traveling."
"We're looking for interesting legends and myths," Syaoran said, having made his way over to the group not long after Fai. "Do you know of any?"
The hunter paused and looked thoughtful for a moment. "Can't say I do with any clarity, but the library ought to have a right mountain of books about all that."
"Oh! Excellent!" Syaoran said, face lighting up. "Can you tell us which way the town is?"
"I'm heading there myself tomorrow morn," he said. "Come spend the night at my cabin, it's a bit small, but it's warm and dry, and we can head out at dawn."
Fai could see the argument on Syaoran's face before he looked skywards and noticed the setting sun, agreeing to the offer politely. Normally, Fai would also be in full support of spending the night with a roof over their heads and a personal guide to their destination, but he didn't want to spend more time than he had to around this man. Still, he didn't object, even while he didn't agree with his usual aplomb. Something Kurogane noticed immediately.
"Right this way then!" the hunter exclaimed, sheathing his blade and gesturing towards one of the forks in the road.
Fai hung back, turning to face the stare he could feel boring into the back of his head from Kurogane. The expression he was met with was a mix of confusion and suspicion. Fai made to explain himself... probably. There was an equal chance of some lame excuse falling out of his mouth. But he never got the chance.
"Oh! And Kurogane!" the hunter called back, voice booming through the trees. "I'd love some pointers on technique if you wouldn't mind some sparing before bed!"
Maybe Fai was imagining the flirtatious tone in his voice. Maybe it really was just an innocent warrior's curiosity. But Fai didn't care right then.
He grabbed the front of Kurogane's traveling cloak and pulled him down for a sizzling, claiming kiss that would leave no questions about what was what in their little family.
Fai had never seen understanding and bafflement war so clearly on Kurogane's face as he did when he finally released him and smiled at that handsome face.
