This is to explain about my fic. I recommend reading it first:

Because I put several Easter eggs, references, and other things you may didn't notice on the first reading.

I try to be careful here, with how/what I write - especially as I'm speaking about religious and culture I'm not a part of. Also, please consider that I don't speak Spanish and that English is a second language for me.

However, I tried to learn and educate myself. I tried looking for mexican writers, and looking more for what PEOPLE said, instead of researchers.

If I wronged anything, please let me know! I'm open to fixing and learning.

2. "As Señora de la Noche ("Lady of the Night"), she is often invoked by those exposed to the dangers of working at night, such as taxi drivers, bar owners, police, soldiers, and prostitutes. As such, devotees believe she can protect against assaults, accidents, gun violence, and all types of violent death."...

"Santa Muerte also has a saint's day, which varies from shrine to shrine. The most prominent is November 1... Others celebrate her day on August 15."

Another reason I focused on Santa Muerta was her being very important to the "lower classes". It works well with the way I see this universe and Urban fantasy. It actually got so long, I had to make it into a whole post.

3. "Catrina" is a version of 'Katherine' - that also means pure, unsullied. I HC her as an immigrant, and therefore wasn't probably originally called "Katherine" - but started using it in USA, as she try to 'blend in', or just as a preferred "mistaken name".

6. la Llorona - ("The Weeping Woman" or "The Wailer") is a Mexican mythical vengeful ghost who is said to roam near bodies of water mourning her children whom she drowned because they had no food.

7. wak-wak - "a vampiric, bird-like creature in Philippine mythology. It is said to snatch humans at night as prey".

Honestly? The moment I read about it, I was like - "yea, it's perfect for the worldbuilding". Why wouldn't people believe Batman is a wakwak? We have here the vampire features (bat), but also birdy, "snatch humans at night", cryptid.

(Another bonus? Remind me of the word "Witwat". If you read my fic "Witwat and the Jin" you understand why I associate it with Batman)

8. Camazotz - In the Late Post-Classic Maya mythology of the Popol Vuh, Camazotz is a bat spirit at the service of the lords of the underworld. Camazotz means "death bat" in the Kʼicheʼ language. In Mesoamerica generally, the bat is often associated with night, death, and sacrifice.

Do I have to explain?

*8. "getting his head turned to a basketball" - there's a story where the Maya hero-twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque go to the underworld. They have to stay for the night in 'the house of bats' and hide themselves inside their weapons. Hunahpu stuck his head out to see if it's day, and one of the bats snatch his head and hang it as a ball for the gods to play with.

(I hope I'm not too wrong here).

So, 1- kids like disgusting things. 2 - think about Kid!Jason, who grew up with this story in his head, being taken away by The Bat to HIS HOUSE. (He was probably terrified af).

9. "Say hi to the big guy for me" - a quote from the Joker. I built a tiny parallel here - it's the last thing he here before he dies (Joker) and before he re-lives (His mom).

10. I sort of use it as an anthropomorphism - I don't go into religion here. I see it as - faith and beliefs and community can turn into something. I see it as one face of Death, but also different. idk. I hope it's understandable.

11. Jason died on April 26/7th. He comes back to life on October 31/November 1st - AKA Día de los Muertos. But, as I understand, Mexican tradition has 2 days - November 1st honors the souls of children (día de los angelitos), and November 2nd remembers the souls of adults.

So - Jason, on the edge of adulthood, comes back to life on the day of the angels, but crawls out of his grave on the day of the adults.

The Bestiary: Abchanchu

In Bolivian folklore, the abchanchu is a shape-shifting creature with vampiric tendencies. This creature frequently finds its victims by pretending to be a helpless old man; when somebody stops to help, that is when the abchanchu strikes. It is not written if it had a particular sort of favored victim.

Not much is known about its true form, or if it really even has one. In some regional lore, the abchanchu is more of a malevolent spirit instead of a flesh-and-blood vampire. In its spiritual form, the abchanchu has been blamed for anything from fires to floods.

There's really only one real reason that the abchanchu sticks out to me, aside from the fact that I think Jareth reads as a little vampiric in nature, and that is the disguise the abchanchu is known for.

Jareth's blind beggar disguise is meant to catch Sarah and Hoggle off guard, and he is certainly able to startle them when he reveals himself. While he doesn't immedeately then chow down, there is some posturing before the eventual attack with the Cleaners.

Is the abchanchu a perfect fit for Jareth? Definitely not. But it could open up some interesting new ways of looking at the Glitter King himself.

the plague-spreading vampires

Excerpts are from the Encyclopedia of Vampire Mythology by Theresa Bane. 

These are vampires that are specifically associated with the plague or spreading sickness in general. The ones listed here are almost definitely not all the types of vampires associated with the plague, but this list is long enough now anyway.

Feel free to add more in reblogs if you want though. 

Abchanchu: This vampire from Bolivia hunts its human prey by appearing to them as a kindly old man who is lost and in need of assistance. Anyone who helps this creature will soon meet with a tragic end. If the victim does not contract a fatal disease soon after the ill- fated meeting, his body will be discovered drained of its blood.

Anito (other names: Anitu, Mamangkiks): From the Philippines comes a vampiric spirit known as an anito. It rises from its grave, a burial mound, as a gaseous vapor. Although the anito seldom ventures too far from its grave, it will assault anyone who enters into its domain. It clings to the victim and allows itself to be inhaled. Although not consumed, the anito will infect the person with an illness that presents as an outbreak of boils. Eventually the disease spreads through the blood and enters into the lungs. Many people who fall victim to the attack of an anito die, especially children. Highly territorial, the anito can be abated with offerings of fruit left on top of its burial mound. There is a chant that offers protection for those who need to walk through an area that an anito is known to defend: “Honored spirit, please step aside, I am just passing through.” Although the anito does not seem to gain any apparent means of nourishment or sustenance from these aggressive assaults, that does not disqualify it as a vampiric being. Many species of vampires are plague carriers and gain no benefits from the death that they cause from the illnesses they spread. 

Baka. (other names: Benin): The baka is a vampiric spirit created when a bokor (a Vodun priest) who has led a life of evil dies. The baka has the ability to shape- shift into any animal it desires and by doing so will have a physical body. Once a form has been assumed, the baka can then hunt down humans to consume their flesh and drink their blood. The baka is especially dangerous because no matter what animal form it takes, it will retain its natural strength, which is powerful enough to kill a healthy adult man. In addition to sating its hunger for blood, the baka oftentimes is a vengeful being, especially if the bokor it was in life was murdered. To ensure that it has its revenge against those responsible for its death, the baka may decide to spread a fatal disease throughout a community.

Begierig (Bur- GEAR- eg), Nachttoter, Nachtzer, NACHZEH - RER, NEUNTÖTER: This is a GERMAN VAMPIRE and the literal translation of its name means “avid chewer.” One of the earlier reports of this vampire came from Minister George Röhrer in a series of reports sent to the theologian Martin Luther. The begierig can be created in one of three rather eclectic ways: by being born with a caul, by drowning, or by being buried in clothes that have one’s name sewn into them. Although this vampire is blamed for tying cows’ tails together, it actually never leaves its grave. The begierig lies in its grave with its left eye open, chewing on its burial shroud. When its shroud is consumed, it begins to gnaw on its own body, all the while making piglike grunting noises. Every night the begierig uses its psychic powers to drain away the energy, both physical and emotional, from its family members (see ENERGY VAMPIRE). GARLIC, if heavily consumed by the family, is a known repellant but not a permanent fix to their problem. The begierig is a known plague carrier and its body is covered with open sores, so one has to be especially careful when exhuming the body. Some object must be placed in its mouth to keep it from its incessant chewing, such as a stone or a coin. Another method is to tie the mouth closed with clean white linen. As is the case with so many species of vampires, beheading it and burning the body down to ash will destroy it. 

Berwick Vampire (Bur- LICK Vam- pire or BER- ik Vam- pire) (other names): Vampire of Berwick- Upon- Tweed In 1196, in the village of Berwick (England or Scotland, sources conflict), a rich, corrupt, and overall sinful merchant died of the plague and was not buried in hallowed ground. The merchant returned to the village as a vampiric REVENANT—a smelling, rotting corpse that carried the plague. At night, the undead merchant would run through the streets screaming, “Until my body is burnt, you folk of Berwick shall have no peace!” Dogs would bark in alarm as he would near and nearly half of the village died of the plague. Eventually, the people of the town exhumed the body, severed the limbs and head, and burned the body down to ash. 

Bruculacas. A vampiric REVENANT from the Greek Isles, the bruculacas looks like a corpse with tightly drawn, red skin (see GREEK VAMPIRES). A foul smelling and filthy creature, its body cavity is filled with slime and excrement, spreading the plague wherever it goes. It preys on humans for their blood. 

Dodelecker (Doe- DE- lic- er) Dodeleker, NACHZEHRER: The dodelecker is a unique and interesting vampire. It is as aggressive as any of the vampires one can imagine; however, it lacks the coordination, manual dexterity, and speed to actually catch anything. Its cries of hunger can be heard as it lies in its grave, chewing on its burial shroud and its own body, struggling to free itself. If it ever manages to escape its tomb, the dodelecker innocuously shambles about, moaning and making whimpering noises as it feebly attempts to catch something. It would love to feed on fresh human flesh and blood, as most REVENANTS do, but because of its physical inability to successfully hunt, it is forced to settle for living a GHOUL like lifestyle and consuming the rotting flesh it is able to find and scavenge. If it were not for the fact that it is a plague carrier, it would be completely harmless. After nine years of nightly risings and wanderings, it will finally lie down in its grave and rise no more (see GERMAN VAMPIRES).

Dschuma (SHOE- ma): The dschuma is a VAMPIRIC WITCH spirit from Romanian lore. Looking like either a young virgin or an old hag, it is covered with cholera that it spreads wherever it goes. At night, it can be heard wailing in pain, as the disease is worse then. The dschuma cannot be destroyed, but it can be made to leave an area. Seven old women must spin, weave, and sew a scarlet shirt all in one night, without speaking, and then leave it in the woods for the dschuma to find. The vampire has a particular vulnerability to the cold and very often has no clothes of its own. As soon as it finds the shirt, the dschuma will put it on and leave the region, perhaps as a token of appreciation. If seven old women are not available, seven maidens can be used in their place. However, the dschuma will take its time when it decides to leave. 

Gierfrass (GEAR- firss): In Germany, when a person commits suicide or is buried in clothes that still have his name sewn into them, he may return as a disease- carrying vampiric REVENANT known as a gierfrass (see GERMAN VAMPIRES). It attacks all of its family and friends first before moving on to strangers. 

Jedogonja (YA- dog- in- ya), LAMPIR, LAPIR, Upir, VUKODLAK In Slavic regions, Serbia in particular, there is a species of vampire known as a jedogonja. It has a hairy body, red eyes, and sharp teeth (see HAIR). It feeds on animals and the blood of the people it knew in life through a hole that it bites into their chests. It spreads an epidemic wherever it goes and anyone who is killed by a jedogonja or died because of the disease it carries may come back to unlife as this type of vampire. Horses and oxen are particularly sensitive to this vampire and become nervous when one is near. If someone leads one of these animals around a cemetery, it will balk and refuse to pass over the grave of a vampire. Once the resting place of the vampire has been found, the body can be exhumed during the day and burned to ash.

Khmoch Long (CA- muck LONG), Khleng Khmoch, Khleng Srak, Preay (“vampire”): In Cambodia there is a vampiric bird that looks like an owl but is not. Khmoch Long (“ghost owl”) flies into a village and lets out a call that causes disease and brings death to those who are already dying. Fortunately, the vampire can be easily driven off by yelling vulgarities and insults at it or by throwing firewood or cheese made from cheese at it. 

Koldun (Coal- DUNE) In Russia, a koldun is a vampiric sorcerer whose name means “one who uses magic.” (The female form of the word is koldun’ia.) Generally speaking, he is a poor man of marginal social status among his people, who victimize him while simultaneously asking for his assistance. The koldun, in life, uses his magic to do harm to others, either by evil inclination or because he was hired to do it, accepting jobs out of whimsy if not financial necessity. Kolduns are carefully watched by the people of the community that they live in or near, as they are both feared and respected. A koldun who has accumulated a great amount of magical knowledge has the ability to “spoil,” a power that causes crops to fail and causes illness and death to livestock and people. Apart from his herbal lore, the sorcerer has a power source that he can tap into— a vampire that gives him the ability to cast spells. Although the koldun is a human, it may be possible that he is a LIVING VAMPIRE, but after his death (particularly if he dies by committing suicide, dies by drowning, or was never baptized), he will return to unlife as a vampire himself. 

Kosac (CO- sac), Orko, Prikosac: In Croatia, when a member of the community returns to unlife, its face red and with an elastic body, it is called a kosac. By day it lies helplessly in its grave. However, at night the vampiric REVENANT returns to its former hometown, knocking on doors, and drinking the blood of anyone who answers; it is especially interested in attacking its former spouse. Victims remember only falling into a deep sleep and awakening feeling tired and drained of energy (see ENERGY VAMPIRE). Kosacs can also spread a mysterious and fatal disease. Although it is impervious to being staked, it can be destroyed by beheading. Croatia was the site of the first “modern- day vampire epidemic.” In 1672 it was reported that Giure Grando of Khring, located on the Istrian Peninsula, returned to unlife and was responsible for causing many deaths. 

Nachzehrer: In German folklore, a nachzehrer is a sort of vampire. The word nachzehrer translates to "after (nach) living off (zehren)" likely alluding to their living after death or living off humans after death in addition to the choice of "nach" for "after" which is similar to "nacht" ("night"). The nachzehrer was prominent in the folklore of the northern regions of Germany, but even in Silesia and Bavaria, and the word was also used to describe a similar creature of the Kashubes of Northern Poland. A Nachzehrer is created most commonly after suicide, and sometimes from an accidental death. According to German lore, a person does not become a nachzehrer from being bitten or scratched; the transformation happens after death and is not communicable. Nachzehrers are also related to sickness and disease. If a large group of people died of the plague, the first person to have died is believed to be a nachzehrer. Typically, a nachzehrer devours its family members upon waking. It has also been said that they devour their own bodies, including their funeral shrouds, and the more of themselves they eat, the more of their family they physically drain. It is not unlikely that the idea of the dead eating themselves might have risen from bodies in open graves who had been partly eaten by scavengers like rats. The nachzehrer was similar to the Slavic vampire in that it was known to be a recently deceased person who returned from the grave to attack family and village acquaintances.

Nelapsi (NELL- ep- see):. A vampiric REVENANT from Slovakia, the nelapsi is known to be able to destroy an entire village in a single night. With two hearts and two souls, the nelapsi is very fast, very strong. It can kill a person with a single blow and is also a plague carrier. To prevent a person from becoming this type of vampire, place money, a religious icon, or personal items in the COFFIN with the body at the time of burial. There is also a very complex ritual that can be performed, which involves running a stake through its heart, carrying the body headfirst to its grave, and tossing a few handfuls of poppy seeds in the grave with it, just in case the ceremony did not work. Should the person rise from the dead as a nelapsi, it must be staked through its twin hearts with a stake made of HAWTHORN, iron, or oak.

Neuntöter (New- un-TOTE- er), Neutoter: The neuntöter is a vampiric REVENANT from German vampire lore (see GERMAN VAMPIRES). Its name, neuntöter, means “nine killer,” as it takes nine days for the vampire to fully transform once it has been placed in its grave. When it does rise, it is covered with open sores and smells like excrement. It is also a plague carrier. People who were born with teeth or an actual spoon in their mouths are heavily predisposed to becoming neuntöters upon their deaths. To ensure that a person lies in rest for all time, the spoon that was in his mouth at birth must be burned to ash and then fed to the child. If this is not done, then after death, the head must be removed from the body between the hours of 11 P.M. and midnight; additionally a lemon must be placed in the mouth before the body is interred. 

Taxim: A vampiric REVENANT said to exist throughout Eastern Europe, the taxim is a plague- spreading animated corpse fueled only by its desire to enact revenge. The taxim seeks out those who caused it great distress in life, and nothing short of achieving its goal will stop it. 

Vukodlak (VOO- cod- lac), Pricolici, TRICCOLITCH, Tricolici, VRUKOLAK, Vukodlack, Vukodlaki, Vukolak, Vukozlak, Vulkodlak, Vulkolak: In Serbia a vampiric REVENANT known as a vukodlak is created whenever a heretic, magic user, or werewolf dies or if a person commits suicide or was murdered. When the vukodlak rises from its grave it looks like a bloated corpse with blood around its mouth, long fingernails, and reddish skin. Its first victims will be its surviving family and friends, and only after they have been killed to the last will it move on to others. Wherever the vukodlak travels it spreads illnesses and carries a plague that affects cattle. GARLIC and silver will ward off a vukodlak, and throwing a handful of carrot or poppy seeds on the ground will distract it long enough for a victim to easily escape, as it is compelled to pick up and count each seed. The vampire can be destroyed but a specific process that must be adhered to. First it must be stabbed with a stake made of mountain ash. Then the vukodlak is decapitated. Finally, its heart is to be removed from its body and boiled in wine. 

Vyrkolakas (Vry- COO- low- casz), Tympaniaois: The vyrkolakas is a vampiric spirit from Greek lore (see GREEK VAMPIRES). When a werewolf dies, its spirit will return and possess a corpse, which it will animate in order to use as its own. Since the spirit is an entity apart from the body it occupies, it is not considered a REVENANT. Once the body becomes possessed, timpanios will occur, meaning its bloated body will become hard, and the skin will become so tight that when it is slapped it will sound like a drum. There is at least one vyrkolakas in every Greek clan. The vyrkolakas will walk through the community it used to live in, spreading disease and calling out the names of people it once knew. Anyone who happens to see it and look directly at it will die instantly; anyone who should answer its call will die within 24 hours.

Of course!

It’s another AU I have, I call it Mixed Blood. Basically the whole premise of it is that Chernabog wanted to make more villains for his plan to enslave the earth. Thus, he takes the blood of the previous villains and (sometimes) heros to do it. His first creation, Abchanchu, was made from the blood of Maleficent, Hades, Jafar, and his very blood.

Abchanchu was grown to be a psychopathic prince, who now wants the very world his main father was willing to share with him all to himself. Using the few children Abchanchu has now, he has his plans set in motion.

The following children live in Abchanchu’s Castle:

You may notice that Disorder is not marked as a blood child like the rest, that’s because he was recruited in by the prince himself. There are many biological children, some of which are either involved or against the castle dwellers.

Monsters of Halloween: Vampires

"But first, on earth as vampire sent, thy corpse shall from its tomb be rent: Then ghostly haunt thy native place, and suck the blood of all thy race;"

So. Halloween is today. I will finish my posts discussing monsters and villains talking about my favorite creatures, the Vampires.

We first need to separate the vampire, the literary creation, and the vampire, an catch-all generic name to all creatures in folklore and legend that sought to drink the blood of the living.

Superstitions about blood sucking creatures always existed, at thought, they often manifested in very different ways depending on the culture. Don't expect the dark aristocratic type here.

In Germany, you had the Alp, an incubus-like spirit, a mischievous elf creature that drinks blood from the nipples of women, men and young children.

In Norse Mythology you had the Draugr, reanimated corpses that lived to protect their treasure, haunt the living, and taking bloody revenge on those who wronged them, devouring their flesh or drinking their blood.

In Bolivia you had the Abchanchu, a shapeshifter that assumes the form of a elderly traveler to drink the blood of anyone who comes to help him.

In a Ireland you had the Abhartach, a tyrant dwarf king, that even after been killed, refused to stay in his grave, and continued to haunt the living.

But it were the beliefs of the people of southern Europe that would plant the seeds of the modern day vampire.

To them the Vampire were the dead. The living dead. The dead would come back to steal the blood, and with it, the life force of the living.

This was the Vampire Craze of 1720's to 1730's. The belief on the Vampire became so strong, that in some areas people were killed suspect of been one.

Serbia under the Habsburg Monarchy, would see exhumations of the bodies of Arnold Paole and Petar Blagojevich, suspected of had been vampires .

People looted graves. They cut the head of the corpses, pierced wood stakes through their chests, cut the legs and placed them in a crossed position. All of that to stop the dead from leaving their graves to haunt and hunt the living.

Around that same time, many of their traditions were recorded for the first time and were made know and brought to the West. These creatures created a huge impact on western literature, with animal-like behavior concealed by a human exterior, and obvious sexual connotations serving as huge sources of inspiration. (Yeah, the Vampire always had sexual tones. In the Balkans, for example, it was believed that male vampires had a great desire for human women)

In poem "The Vampire" (1748) by german Heinrich August Ossenfelder, the main character threatens to invade a girl's house in the middle of the night, suck her blood and then give her his deadly kiss, proving that his teachings were better than her mother's Christianity.

Several poems also speak of the dead returning to take their living significant others to the grave with them. Lenore is one example, although in that case it wasn't her lover, but Death itself in disguise. Other example is in "The Bride of Corinth" by Gothe, where we get this:

"From my grave to wander I am forced

Still to seek the God's long sever'd link,

Still to love the bridegroom I have lost,

And the lifeblood of his heart to drink."

In the same bet between writers Mary Shelley, Percy Shelley, Lord Byron and John William Polidori that gave us Frankenstein, also gave us "The Vampyre" (1816). In there we meet Lord Ruthven, an alluring vampire hidding in London high society, seducing women, draining their blood and vanishing into the night.

During the Victorian times, we had Varney the Vampire (1845–1847), a Penny Dreadful, a cheap serialized story of the misadventures of Sir Francis Varney, a vampire fixated on haunting the Bannerworths, a formerly wealthy family driven to ruin by their recently deceased father.

Many vampire tropes started with these stories, like vampire fangs and two wounds in the neck, invasions through a window to attack a sleeping maiden, hypnotic powers, superhuman strength.

But there was a book that forever would cement the vampire image on public perception. Dracula by Bram Stoker (1897)

Dracula is to the Vampire Genre what the New Testament is to Christianity. He is the one in which all vampires in the 20th and 21th century are molded after. The dark nobleman that would forever put Transylvania on the map and establish vampire lore, the vampire that turns into bats, is weak in sunlight, preys on women and is hunted by Van Helsing.

So, what makes a Vampire so interesting? Easy, a Vampire is a beast pretending to be human. They are savage creatures that want to kill and breed (interpret this as you want), but they must pass for human to survive and haunt innocent victims. They are the window for our innermost desires, our most brutish behavior. They bend gender and societal rules and Taboos. They are the most animalistic and visceral version of ourselves come to light, and their role is to allows a sense of catharsis and to shows us what happens when all our inner demons are free to play through the night.

Οι συμμετοχές θα είναι ανοιχτές μέχρι στις 15 Νοεμβρίου του 2019. Η πρώτη παρουσίαση θα γίνει στα μέσα Δεκεμβρίου του 2019.

«… Σήκωσε το βλέμμα του και κοίταξε με πάθος και θλίψη το φεγγάρι. Ένιωσε το αίμα του να βράζει. Ένιωσε την αιώνια δίψα. Τη δίψα για αίμα. Έχουν περάσει άπειροι αιώνες από τότε, από τον καιρό της Ρώμης, όταν ήταν ένας απλός λεγεωνάριος, σε μια απλή αποστολή στη Βόρειο Αφρική. Τα πλάσματα τους είχαν επιτεθεί ξαφνικά, μέσα στη νύχτα, κανένας δεν είχε προλάβει να αντισταθεί. Για κάποιο λόγο του είχαν χαρίσει τη ζωή, αν αυτό θεωρείτε ζωή, και τον είχαν μετατρέψει. Τον είχαν κάνει έναν από αυτούς. Οι Εκδόσεις Συμπαντικές Διαδρομές δημιουργήθηκαν πριν από δέκα τέσσερα χρόνια έχοντας ένα και μοναδικό σκοπό, να αναγεννήσουν τη λογοτεχνία του φανταστικού στην Ελλάδα και στην Κύπρο και να στηρίξουν τους Έλληνες και Κύπριους συγγραφείς του φανταστικού. Αυτά που θα θέλαμε να μας στείλετε:

Οι συμμετοχές θα είναι ανοιχτές μέχρι στις 15 Νοεμβρίου του 2019.

• Ένα μέχρι και πέντε διηγήματα, από 1.000 μέχρι και 15.000 λέξεις το ένα. Εμείς θα επιλέξουμε ένα με πέντε από αυτά. • Τα διηγήματα αυτά να μην τα έχετε εκδώσει ή δημοσιεύσει κάπου αλλού, σε έντυπο ή στο ίντερνετ. • Μαζί με τα διηγήματα σας να μας στείλετε και τη φόρμα που ακολουθεί, συμπληρωμένη. Για να γνωριστούμε. • Να μας τα στείλετε μέχρι τις 15 Νοεμβρίου του 2019, στο e_mail: [email protected] αφού βέβαια θα έχετε διαβάσει προσεκτικά τους όρους συμμετοχής. • Τα διηγήματα θα πρέπει να ανήκουν αποκλειστικά στον χώρο της λογοτεχνίας του φανταστικού, με σαφής αναφορές σε βαμπίρ και να είναι αυστηρά μέσα στα όρια των 1.000 με 15.000 λέξεων. • Μην μας στέλνετε τα κείμενα σε .pdf. Στείλτε τα ή σε .doc αρχείο του Word ή σε .docx και .odp του Open Office.

Τι είναι τα βαμπίρ Το βαμπίρ είναι ένα πλάσμα από τη λαϊκή παράδοση που θρέφεται από τη ζωτική ενέργεια του θύματος του, κυρίως από το αίμα του. Στην Ευρωπαϊκή παράδοση τα βαμπίρ ήταν νεκροζωντανοί που επισκεπτόταν τους αγαπημένους τους και τις περιοχές που ζούσαν, όταν ήταν ζωντανοί. Υπάρχουν καταγραφές για βαμπίρ στις περισσότερες κουλτούρες. Ο όρος βαμπίρ έγινε δημοφιλής στην  δυτική Ευρώπη τον 18ο αιώνα όταν προκλήθηκε μαζική υστερία από τις παραδόσεις που επικρατούσαν στα Βαλκάνια και στην Ανατολική Ευρώπη, που είχαν πολλές φορές σαν αποτέλεσμα να ξεθάβουν νεκρούς και να τους καρφώνουν πάσσαλους στην καρδιά.     Οι μύθοι για βαμπίρ υπήρχαν για πολλούς αιώνες. Κουλτούρες όπως της Μεσοποταμίας, των Εβραίων, των Αρχαίων Ελλήνων και των Ρωμαίων είχαν ιστορίες για δαίμονες και πνεύματα που θεωρείται ότι προηγήθηκαν από τα σύγχρονα βαμπίρ.

Τι ζητάμε;

Κείμενα από Έλληνες και Κύπριους συγγραφείς που ζούνε στην Ελλάδα, στην Κύπρο ή στο εξωτερικό.   Τα κείμενα σας  πρέπει να είναι στα Ελληνικά.  

Τα διηγήματα  που θέλουμε να γράψετε πρέπει να έχουν θεματική τα βαμπίρ, όπως ορίζεται σε αυτή την ανακοίνωση. Τα κείμενα σας μπορούν να διαδραματίζονται σε κάθε εποχή, στο παρελθόν, στο παρόν, στο μέλλον και στο μακρινό μέλλον. Επίσης τα κείμενα σας μπορούν να ανήκουν σε κάθε είδος: Στη λογοτεχνία fantasy, στη λογοτεχνία τρόμου, στη λογοτεχνία επιστημονικής φαντασίας, ακόμα και στη space opera, με βαμπίρ σε διαστημόπλοια στο αχανές διάστημα, σε άγνωστους πλανήτες.

Επίσης οι ιστορίες μπορούν να διαδραματίζονται σε κάθε κουλτούρα. Αναφέρουμε ενδεικτικά κάποιες από τις κουλτούρες που έχουν παραδόσεις για βαμπίρ.

Φόρμα για αποστολή μαζί με τα διηγήματα: Ονοματεπώνυμο: Τηλέφωνο επικοινωνίας (κινητό και σταθερό): E_mail επικοινωνίας: Πόλη διαμονής: *Ζητάμε την πόλη διαμονής γιατί θέλουμε να μαζέψουμε στοιχεία από ποιες πόλεις είναι οι συγγραφείς για να αξιολογήσουμε αν μπορούν να γίνουν παρουσιάσεις της ανθολογίας και στις πόλεις τους, αν υπάρχει βέβαια ενδιαφέρον από τους συγγραφείς. [Η φόρμα με τα στοιχεία να υπάρχει και στο email και μέσα στο αρχείο με τα διηγήματα. Να φαίνονται ξεκάθαρα μέσα στο διήγημα ο τίτλος του διηγήματος και το όνομα του/της συγγραφέως. Μην στέλνετε διηγήματα χωρίς να υπάρχει μέσα όνομα συγγραφέα και τίτλος. Αποστολές κειμένων με ελλιπή στοιχεία, και όχι όπως περιγράφεται εδώ, θα ακυρώνονται].

Περιμένουμε διηγήματα από όλους σας. Δεν έχει σημασία άμα σας γνωρίζουμε ή όχι ή αν έχετε εκδώσει κάτι ή το οτιδήποτε άλλο. Σημασία έχει μόνο άμα γράφετε! Άμα γράφετε περιμένουμε τα διηγήματα σας!

Μετά τη λήξη της προθεσμίας:

1. Δεν θα δοθεί άλλη παράταση. 2. H ομάδα των εκδόσεων Συμπαντικές Διαδρομές θα επιλέξει τα διηγήματα που θα μπουν στην ανθολογία. 3. Οι συγγραφείς που θα επιλεγούν  θα ενημερωθούν μέσω email. 4. Η αξιολόγηση των κειμένων θα γίνεται λίγες ημέρες μετά την αποστολή τους και θα ανακοινώνεται άμεσα στον/στην συγγραφέα αν τα κείμενα τους έχουν επιλεγεί. Εφόσον επιλεγούν τα κείμενα θα σταλεί στον/στην συγγραφέα το συμφωνητικό έκδοσης. Μετά την αποστολή του συμφωνητικού ο/η συγγραφέας θα πρέπει να το στείλει πίσω υπογεγραμμένο, όπως ζητηθεί, μέσα σε τέσσερις ημέρες, αλλιώς το κείμενο θα αποκλειστεί άμεσα. 5. Για να μπουν τα κείμενα στην ανθολογία πρέπει να πληρούν τους βασικούς όρους. - Να είναι αρχεία είτε του word είτε του openoffice. Αν είναι άλλο αρχείο το κείμενο θα αποκλειστεί. - Να είναι τα αρχεία μέσα στα όρια των λέξεων. Αν δεν είναι, το κείμενο θα αποκλειστεί. - Να σταλεί υπογεγραμμένο το συμφωνητικό μέσα στα χρονικά όρια που θα ζητηθούν. Συμφωνητικά που θα αποσταλούν με ελλιπή στοιχεία ή χωρίς υπογραφή ή δεν θα είναι συμπληρωμένα σύμφωνα με τις οδηγίες δεν θα θεωρούνται έγκυρα και θα απορρίπτονται. Άμα δεν σταλεί, το κείμενο θα αποκλειστεί χωρίς άλλη ειδοποίηση.   - Να είναι τα κείμενα μέσα στα όρια της λογοτεχνίας του φανταστικού, με αναφορές σε βαμπίρ, όπως περιγράφεται. Αν δεν είναι, τα κείμενα θα αποκλειστούν. -Να συμπληρωθεί η φόρμα με τα στοιχεία με τον τρόπο που ζητάτε. Αν δεν συμπληρωθεί με τον τρόπο που ζητάτε τα κείμενα θα αποκλειστούν. 6. Αν συγκεντρωθούν πολλά κείμενα υπάρχει η περίπτωση από ένα σημείο και μετά να ανακοινώσουμε δημόσια ότι δεν θα δεχόμαστε άλλα κείμενα. Όσο πιο νωρίς στείλετε τα κείμενα σας τόσες περισσότερες πιθανότητες έχουν να μπουν στην ανθολογία. 7. Τα ονόματα των τελικών συμμετεχόντων θα ανακοινωθούν επίσημα πλέον στο διαδίκτυο στις 21 Νοεμβρίου του 2019. 8. Η πρώτη παρουσίαση θα γίνει στις Όψεις του Φανταστικού στα μέσα Δεκεμβρίου στην Αθήνα, στην Αθηναίων Πολιτεία. 9. Η επιλογή των κειμένων θα είναι αυστηρή.

Οι Εκδόσεις ΣΥΜΠΑΝΤΙΚΕΣ ΔΙΑΔΡΟΜΕΣ ξεκίνησαν την παρουσία τους πριν από δέκα τέσσερα χρόνια, έχοντας σαν πρωταρχικό στόχο την προώθηση και προβολή Ελλήνων και Κύπριων συγγραφέων που ασχολούνται με τη λογοτεχνία, την ποίηση και τη λογοτεχνία και ποίηση του φανταστικού. Όπως δηλώσαμε και τότε, στην πρώτη ανακοίνωση μας, είμαστε και οι ίδιοι συγγραφείς και αυτή την προσπάθεια την ξεκινάμε πρώτα από όλα για τους ίδιους τους Έλληνες και Κύπριους συγγραφείς του φανταστικού, αλλά και για κάθε Έλληνα και Κύπριο συγγραφέα, καθώς αναγνωρίζουμε τη δυσκολία που έχουν για να βρουν τρόπο για να εκδώσουν τα κείμενα τους, γιατί στην Ελλάδα και στην Κύπρο οι νέοι συγγραφείς, και όσοι δεν έχουν κάποιον γνωστό, πολύ δύσκολα βρίσκουν έστω και την πιο μικρή δυνατότητα να εκδώσουν ακόμα και ένα μικρό κείμενο τους. Και σε αυτή την προσπάθεια είστε καλοδεχούμενοι όλοι. Δεν χρειάζεται να σας γνωρίζουμε, δεν χρειάζεται κάποιος να σας συστήσει, δεν χρειάζονται τελετές, δεν χρειάζεται να έχετε ήδη εκδώσει κάτι. Ποτέ δεν θα απορρίψουμε κάποιον επειδή θα είναι καινούργιος συγγραφέας, αντίθετα θα τον τιμήσουμε ισότιμα, ούτε θα απορρίψουμε κάποιον άμα δεν τον ξέρουμε. Το μόνο που χρειάζεται είναι να γράφετε. Στείλτε μας τα κείμενα σας και θα κάνουμε ότι μπορούμε για να σας βοηθήσουμε. Και αυτό το έχουμε αποδείξει, έχοντας εκδώσει πάνω από τριακόσιους Έλληνες και Κύπριους συγγραφείς τα τελευταία δέκα τέσσερα  χρόνια, στο περιοδικό μας και στα βιβλία μας. Έχουμε αποδείξει ότι ήμασταν πάντοτε κοντά στους συγγραφείς και θα συνεχίσουμε να είμαστε. Δεν είναι σκοπός μας να δημιουργήσουμε μια ακόμα μικρή και αδιαφανή ομάδα συγγραφέων και να προβάλλουμε μόνο τρία-τέσσερα άτομα. Γράφετε, ακόμα και αν δεν ξέρετε κανέναν ή δεν έχετε δημοσιεύσει το οτιδήποτε, ότι ηλικία και να είστε; Στείλτε μας τα κείμενα σας και θα τα τιμήσουμε όλα με τον ίδιο σεβασμό.

Όροι συμμετοχής:

• Οι διοργανωτές διατηρούν το δικαίωμα να μεταβάλουν τις ημερομηνίες. • Η συμμετοχή στο στάδιο της προ-επιλογής είναι ελεύθερη και δωρεάν για όλους. • Οποιαδήποτε συμμετοχή δεν είναι σύμφωνη με όλους ανεξαιρέτως τους όρους συμμετοχής θα αποκλείεται από τη διαδικασία επιλογής με την έγκαιρη, όμως, ειδοποίηση του/της συγγραφέως με e-mail. • Με την αποστολή του διηγήματος του ο/η συγγραφέας αποδέχεται ότι το έργο του θα τεθεί υπό αξιολόγηση. Αποδέχεται επίσης ότι θα υπογράψει συμβόλαιο συνεργασίας για την ανθολογία με τις εκδόσεις Συμπαντικές Διαδρομές, όπου θα καθορίζονται οι όροι της συνεργασίας. Εκχωρεί στις εκδόσεις Συμπαντικές Διαδρομές το αποκλειστικό δικαίωμα για δημοσίευση του διηγήματος του σε βιβλίο (εφόσον επιλεγεί). • Οι συγγραφείς αποδέχονται ότι δεν θα λάβουν κανενός είδους χρηματική ή υλική αμοιβή, εκτός από ειδικούς όρους που θα αναφέρει το συμφωνητικό, που θα υπογράψουν για τη συμμετοχή τους στην ανθολογία. Με την αποστολή του/των κειμένων τους αποδέχονται αυτό τον όρο χωρίς ουδεμία επιφύλαξη.   • Η συμμετοχή τους στην διαδικασία αξιολόγησης των κειμένων για την ανθολογία προϋποθέτει και συνεπάγεται την πλήρη και ανεπιφύλακτη αποδοχή του συνόλου των παραπάνω όρων χωρίς καμία επιφύλαξη.

Βασικοί τρόποι προώθησης της ανθολογίας: - Θα γίνει εκτεταμένη παρουσίαση της ανθολογίας και των συγγραφέων που θα πάρουν μέρος, σε συνεχόμενα τεύχη του περιοδικού μας, Συμπαντικές Διαδρομές. Θα γίνει προσπάθεια να παρουσιάσουμε μικρές συνεντεύξεις αν γίνεται και από όλους τους συγγραφείς που θα συμμετέχουν. - Θα γίνουν ανοιχτές παρουσιάσεις στις περισσότερες μεγάλες πόλεις της Ελλάδας και της Κύπρου, σε βιβλιοπωλεία και χώρους. Αναφέρονται ενδεικτικά κάποιες πόλεις: Αθήνα, Θεσσαλονίκη, Λάρισα, Γιάννενα, Καλαμάτα, Αμφιλοχία, Γρεβενά, Πρέβεζα, Πάτρα, Ηράκλειο, Ρέθυμνο, Λευκωσία, Λάρνακα, Λεμεσό, Πάφο και σε άλλες, στα πλαίσια του Φεστιβάλ που οργανώνουν οι εκδόσεις μας, των Όψεων του Φανταστικού, όπου θα γίνει συνεχόμενη παρουσίαση της ανθολογίας και των συγγραφέων της. - Θα γίνει προώθηση της ανθολογίας στην Διεθνή έκθεση βιβλίου στη Φραγκφούρτη, όπου συμμετέχουν οι Εκδόσεις Συμπαντικές Διαδρομές. Διεκδικήστε και εσείς να κάνετε γνωστό το έργο σας στο εξωτερικό.

Όλοι μαζί αναγεννήσαμε τη λογοτεχνία του φανταστικού στην Ελλάδα και στην Κύπρο, όλοι μαζί συνεχίζουμε στον ίδιο δρόμο. Στηρίζουμε τους συγγραφείς με πράξεις και έργα Ελάτε και εσείς στη μεγάλη οικογένεια του εκδοτικού μας!
