Grudge: Given his stubbornness, Randall can hold a grudge for a very, very long time: Though he's a fairly thick-skinned man (in some ways, he feels he had to be, in order to put up with the snide comments and harsh words from his neighbors, coworkers, and employer) and tries not to react outwardly to these insults, Randall doesn't easily forget a slight towards him, nor does he forgive so easily. Even centuries onward, he hasn't forgotten what many of his childhood bullies did to him, and if he ever met them again as spirits, he may not so easily forgive them-not unless he felt they were really, truly repentant (and even then, he may have a hard time letting it go).

Question: Doubt could practically be Randall's middle name: Many times has he second-guessed himself, doubted what others have told him, and just otherwise been uncertain about what's happening. Being a man who isn't always confident in himself and has a hard time accepting compliments or believing someone when they say they love and care about him, doubt is unsurprisingly a huge part of his character, though he tries not to let it be. As such, he is very sensitive about his appearance and his skills-if someone happens to compliment him on his looks or his abilities, it'll be very, very hard for him to swallow.

Vice: If there's one vice Randall has, it's most certainly his unwillingness to sleep: He's struggled with it for several decades now (particularly without his bride by his side, but also because he is often plagued by nightmares), and more often than not will he eschew it in favor of drinking copious amounts of coffee and working on a project until the wee hours of the morning. He's aware it's not a good habit to have (even for someone who's already dead), and knows it makes him even more surly and cantankerous and, therefore, less pleasant to be around, but in many ways, he prefers it to lying awake in an empty bed, or catapulting awake upon reliving his death once again.

One of the biggest HotD missed opportunities is not exploring the trauma that comes from having to marry your immediate family.

Not exploring how Targ women are raised to think of their brothers as their future husbands.

How damaging it is when the lines of what's familial and what's romantic blur.

Helaena grew up knowing she'll marry her older brother, never given an option to even think of finding love somewhere else.

Aegon not wanting to marry his sister but he is a Targaryen and as a Targaryen there isn't much of a choice in it anyway.

Aemond who says he will marry his sister because it would be his duty to do so. Who doesn't even understand how strange and wrong that is - the fact that he sees marrying his sister as just another duty to fulfill.

The fact that we don't see how Helaena (arguably the biggest victim in that situation) feels about it all is just criminal.

The fact that we were never showed Helaegon getting married is such a missed opportunity because it would give an audience a way to understand just how disturbing that Targaryen custom is.

Another missed opportunity is not seeing Helaena pregnant and/or giving birth.

But I especially, ESPECIALLY, hate the way the show implied that it was all Alicent's doing purely because it means that now that highly traumatic experience of not only children but also siblings getting married became an Alicent issue and not an issue of hundred years of one family's abusive blood supremacy tradition.

⭐️- One of Randall's favorite snacks he likes to nosh on between meals has long been strawberries; sometimes with a small side of cream, sometimes without, and of course, he was quick to share his affection for this treat with Erika at a young age (though he always made sure she had some cream on hand, just in case she wanted some; her grandmother June had done the same thing when Randall was Erika's age). Strawberries aren't Erika's favorite fruit, but she doesn't dislike them either, she just prefers peaches-just like her grandfather Wilhelm, actually.

⭐️- Between him and Emily, Randall was very much the worrier, most prone to fretting over every scraped knee and bruised elbow (never mind the fact that he got plenty scraped and bruised as a youngster, doing all sorts of admittedly reckless activities, many of which he laments to Emily that he could've gotten hurt-or worse-doing). Erika pricking herself with one of his sewing needles once made him feel like a horrible father (even though Erika wasn't too hurt by such a tiny prick all in all); he eventually settled down, his worrier tendencies beginning to peter off...but there was still a part of him that fretted deep down inside, even if he didn't voice it.

⭐️- Although his parents aren't around to meet their granddaughter, Randall still puts forward the effort to make sure Erika knows about her grandparents: Whether it's telling the story of his father's journey from the Emerald Isle to America (stubbornly learning English along the way), to showing her the many quilts her great-grandmother Burke made, to bringing out the good Irish china for certain holidays, to taking her to see the beautiful roses his mother planted in the Gracey gardens, Randall has tried his hardest to ensure that his daughter knows who and where she comes from.

Raising pups with non-releaseable surrogate otter moms in our care, like Ivy (pictured here), provides orphaned pups with the skills necessary for life back in the wild. But a successful reintroduction takes a lot more than that! A recent study looking back at 20 years of sea otter releases found that the most important factors for their success were favorable weather and ocean conditions, and low competition for resources.

The study’s results will inform future decisions about when and where to release southern sea otters to maximize their chances of survival. It also provides support for expanding our surrogacy program to other aquariums, increasing our impact on recovering wild otter populations. What an ottertunity!
