It's been a while since a new pixel art editor joined the top ranks. Aseprite is the current go-to recommendation for desktops, while Pixaki (now in its 4th iteration) has always been my favorite on the iPad.
It's time to add another worthy alternative for the owners of Apple Pencils, Pixquare, which is probably the closest you will get to Aseprite on iPadOS. Son Nguyen, the app's developer, says he was inspired a lot by Aseprite, both for the UI and functionality. This is perhaps the most evident in the layer/animation system with the cel grid and of course support for importing and exporting .aseprite files.
I reviewed the app on my latest Twitch stream and it's not (yet) as polished as Pixaki (just one example: pixel grid rendering is not pixel-perfect), but it had all the tools that I needed and more. Among unique capabilities are pressure sensitivity (great for more expressive pixel painting) and importing of Lospec color palettes (on the other hand, you can't yet import palette files).
The biggest switching reason for me is the ability to export a timelapse (which I would say is an expected feature of iPad drawing apps at this point—thanks, Procreate!). For those of us who double as artists and content creators, being able to post a timelapse is very useful. This has been on the feature request list of Pixaki at least since 2021, so it's been refreshing to see Son just go ahead and do it based on the beta test feedback. Going forward, now that v1 is fully released in the App Store ($10, or free Lite version that is limited to 2 files) he wants to continue developing the app based on user feedback, so also join his Discord if you decide to give it a chance.
One more timely thing, you have until the end of July to create an artwork in Pixquare (paid or Lite) to get a chance at winning $200 or $100 (plus app codes to share with your friends). Full details on participating in the contest are on Twitter.

Whoa okay hi another one hit me like a freight train unexpectedly. What can I say? I needed to make him cry.
Warnings - gn!reader, dacryphilia, chair bondage, trying to not get caught, again this was a possession that overtook me so this is all straight from brainrot to page. This is becoming more frequent. Should I be concerned? ...nah I'm sure its fine

He’s always been beautiful. But right now, you were certain he couldn’t possibly become anymore perfect.
The most striking carnelian eyes staring up at you, coated in a delicate gloss from tears that haven’t quite fallen yet. Lashes long enough to make any woman envious clump and cling together, lined with pretty little dew drops of tears that shine in the low light of his room. Another tear slips from his eye to slowly trail down his cheek, disappearing in a still damp track where dozens of tears had been rolling not long before.
Gritting his teeth, he draws in a hitching, shaky breath, his exposed chest visibly stuttering with the effort to remain silent so as not to alert his roommate to his predicament. Not that he wanted it to stop, though one may have easily assumed as much, what with how tightly he was tied to his desk chair, rendering him almost entirely immobile besides his hips and head, completely at your mercy.
Poor thing, he did his best to remain quiet even with the intense feelings no doubt gripping him after having been teased mercilessly by your gentle hand for the better part of an hour. He counted at least three ruined orgasms, but honestly with how much of a mess his mind was at this point, he couldn’t be entirely sure. Hips thrusting meekly at the air, limited by the bindings he had oh so eagerly suggested you use, he sunk his teeth into his plush bottom lip, tasting the familiar flavor of iron run across his tongue from the force.
You however, merely chuckle innocently at his misery, placing both of your hands on the back of the chair behind him. The most sugary sweet of smiles forms on your lips as you lower yourself to his eye level, giving you an even better view of those pretty eyes.
“Hmm? What’s wrong? Isn’t this what you wanted?”
Your soft teasing voice seems to spark a fire behind his eyes, a fire you are all too familiar with. His mouth opens with clear intent to offer a biting word back at you, but anything he may have thought up dies instantly in his throat when he feels your hand curl around his flushed, leaking cock once more. His head drops at once at the sudden rush of feeling against his aching length, he can feel it throb against your palm with joy at the sensation. All he can muster is a cracked little whimper that sounded far more pathetic than he ever cared to be in front of you, much to his growing shame. He had expected to be able to hold out longer than he was, fully going into this with his head held high that he would never crack, yet here he was, biting back needy whines as he rocks his hips with his limited range of motion, desperately craving every bit of friction he can get.
And yet… as much as his helplessness was causing him pain right now, something about the way you looked at him like this made him know full well he was going to ask you for this kind of stress relief again in the future. Probably even sooner than he cared to admit.
Slowly, he lifted his head to face you once more, gazing up at you from under his uncharacteristically messy blonde bangs. His expression was so pitifully needy that it sent a shiver down your spine, the heat of his look going straight to your core in an instant. He blinks and it sends more of those crystalline tears down his face.
Truly, he couldn’t be any more beautiful than he is right now.

my tablet is currently halfway across the country for repairs (my brother's the most tech-savvy in my family and asking him to take a look at it was cheaper than taking it to a shop) so i haven't been able to draw lately. i've made a bunch of traditional sketches in the meantime, but none of them are presentable enough to post here, so i decided to take a trip down memory lane and fill out one of foxorian's influence maps!
below the cut are the names of the artists featured here, as well as a little bit of director's commentary on how they've influenced me :]
yugo limbo (website, tumblr, twitter) - some time last year, i realized something profoundly unnerving: i actually... don't like the art in smile for me's original release all that much? that's not to say it's bad, just that there isn't a whole lot about it outside of maybe its architecture that stands out to me. which is REALLY WEIRD, considering i wrote a whole retrospective about how much this game means to me. art-wise, however, it was only after smile for me's release that yugo limbo's art evolved in a way that really resonated with me; i love how textured everything is, i love the way they simplify clothing folds and the way that skin wrinkles around the joints, i love their love for puppets; all of those things ended up worming their way into my art style and tastes one way or another, and i couldn't be happier!! it didn't feel right to leave smile for me out of the equation entirely, though, so i chose a piece that was both related to that game and that i felt reflected a lot of what i love about yugo's more recent art.
echobsilly (twitter, tumblr) - oh god, speaking of yugo limbo - god. i fucking love echo's art so much i have no idea how to even do it justice in writing. like many people i first found him through his smile for me/limbolane fanart and animations - and those are some of his best work, don't get me wrong, but i really wanted to include one of his original designs to make a point that he's just fuckin great at art in general. character design, facial expressions, body language, composition, LIGHTING... he makes it all just. so so so gorgeous. i always liked "painterly" art styles for lack of a better word, but i think his art is what first pushed me to embrace that more in my digital art. i also like how he talks about dr. habit like he's his dead wife. i'm very proud to call him a friend these days :]
japhers (tumblr, twitter, instagram) - i first found japhers' art in high school and he very quickly became a HUUUUUGE influence on my taste in character and costume design. one of the big reasons i never fully bought into the idea that men's fashion is inherently harder to design is bc so much of his art is already dedicated to exploring fashion Without the restrictions of a gender binary in place which is to say that he's really good at drawing buff dudes in frilly outfits. i also think he gave me more confidence to draw more intricate costumes without having to worry about super dainty and clean lineart, bc a lot of his art looks like it's kinda been carved/rendered out of sketches, and it is Gorgeous.
moe suppe (website, tumblr, cohost) - another artist i found in high school, albeit originally from a long-gone instagram account. his art is what kickstarted my desire to have some Roughness in my art, some Texture. it may not have stuck to my lineart, but it Definitely stuck to my rendering. it helped that i was going through a pretty big angel/demon phase at the time, which meant i was pretty immediately drawn in by his delightfully weird worldbuilding. i should probably read fear not now that it's an actual serial...
val wise (website, itch.io, twitter, instagram) - a more recent influence, but a pretty significant one nonetheless. i featured the cover of délicatesse here because it was the first thing from him that i had ever read, but in general his grasp on the human body really blows me away given how deceptively simple his style looks at first glance, especially his faces. the way fat and hair sits on her bodies, and how much it varies from character to character... it's beautiful without being So glamorous that it feels untouchable. his costume design is also great. i recommend his comics for low fantasy/ursula k. le guin fans who are Dying to see more fat characters in leading roles. i also just found out that i am of two hearts is free on itch.io, so i'll be treating myself to that over spring break.
partycoffin (tumblr, twitter) - if you have known me for any amount of time at all then this should not come as a surprise to you. i actually wasn't going to include partycoffin in this map at first, because while welcome home has inspired me in Many creative pursuits, i didn't think visual art was one of them? i definitely picked up some of clown's love for dramatic lighting and thinner lines with just a smidge of well-placed hatching subconsciously, though.
ryoko kui - probably the most recent artist featured here? anyways i have a confession to make: i have yet to read dungeon meshi. i just know that when i saw a post compiling a bunch of ryoko kui's sketches from her daydream hour series, i was so overwhelmed with this feeling of, like… "oh, yeah, these capture almost everything i love about women as flesh and blood people. when i draw women this is the kind of beauty that i want people to see in them." of course, ryoko kui is a great character designer in general, but something about her women specifically really speak to me. the earthier color palettes and rendering also do a lot to endear her art to me.
shuzo oshimi - specifically his art in blood on the tracks. something that really stood out to me in that series was whenever the shadows would get really intense, and you'd get these big blocks of black with just the faintest bit of hatching to soften out some of their edges. it was always very effective in creating this sense of claustrophobia. i really want to keep incorporating that in my more intense pieces!
person918x (tumblr, instagram) - i don't work with 3d art often and i don't see myself doing so any time soon, but the composition of person918x's pieces is something i take a lot of inspiration of. i also love his sequential art, as someone who does a lot of dream journaling it's sick to see the exact Vibe of a dream be put to (digital) canvas. i also firmly believe that he's one of the only people out there who knows what he's doing when it comes to using generative AI in art.
oops i made this list too long so now i have to put the last two artists in a new block.
10. meatgiri (twitter, instagram) - definitely the artist i've known about the longest out of this selection. i think i've been following her since…. oh god. since i was in middle school. way before she was meatgiri, even. i think her influence probably shows up the least in my art, but there are definitely some characteristics that stuck with me for a very long time (the lil block of black accompanied by one or two lines for shading on the neck, the looser lineart making it really easy to incorporate soft curves and sharp edges, the Eyes, etc etc.) i chose this drawing of her oc juniper bc i thought it was both reflective of her current art And a good embodiment of a lot of things i wanted to emulate from her art as a young'un.
11. dragan bibin (website, instagram) - specifically his 'deimos' series. much like with person918x, it's his compositions that really stand out to me the most, and you probably know by now that i'm a sucker for high contrast. i find it interesting though that he uses high contrast to obscure more than he does to highlight... helps a lot with giving the deimos paintings that air of Quiet Unease. another thing i want to incorporate in my horror-adjacent art! manmade environments gone wrong!

Math, please provide an outline for that Planet Swap AU. This is sending endorphins to my brain. And I need any excuse to write my version but I lack the confidence to do it without some or even any outside validation.
*crawl out of my hole*
Hey hey hey!!! I am back to making text post, I miss them too much lmao.
So! First of all, this planet swap auwas brainstormed with my lovely friend @chemos-factories , who gave me free reign to start yelling about it. So! Without waiting....
Primarch, planet swap edition:
Fulgrim, the flower of Nuceria: To start things up, let's go with the first one we came up with, Fulgrim! He had the horrible, horrible luck to be send on that planet... And to be too pretty for the fighting pit. Since his childhood, he was a pleasure slave for the high rider, sitting like a pretty adornment at their arms as he watched the people fight and dies in the arena. He tried to revolt, and almost succeeded... But he was recaptured in the end. And instead of installing the nails, the bastards on that planet figured out how to take away his biggest weapon: his voice. They removed his vocal cords, rendering him mute. He still is a prideful, elegant, spiteful bastard, and now that he is free, he will never bow down to another master ever again.
Ferrus, the blacksmith of Caliban: Ferrus was very lucky, as in, his pod was found by peasant out in the forest, looking for food. The old tales of Caliban would talk of little children abandoned in the forest by the fair folk, and he was welcomed into their home. His father was a blacksmith, and he learned the trade with him. But always, he was attracted to the forest. It's also where he met a dragon fallen from the sky, with a strange body of metal. He still slayed the beast, but his arms became strange after, covered in metal. Due to his feat, he became a page, and eventually became the most legendary knight of the planet, even his is gruff peasant attitude was often criticize by the noble knights house.
Magnus , the wild witch of Medusa: Magnus grew up very, very lonely. He had a craving, to meet other people, to see others, and yet he was always alone. But from a young age, through his loneliness, object around him would sometime start to glow, and animate themself, become his companions and friends. Magnus himself had no real comprehension of how he did those miracle, they came to him naturally. He would make fire appear in his palms and thunder rumble from the sky. Strange automata, animated by the wrap, would follow him around, and he would sleep under the star, dreaming of far away place, full of green and people.
Perturabo, the builder of Chemos: if anyone was in a perfect environment... It was Pert. He ended up on a planet size game of Satisfactory. Automations, mechanisation, optimisation- all of it were almost a game to him. By the time Big E was there, he had probably created of megapolis that was planet size. Fully self sufficient and automated, he started importing that concept to almost every planet he put under compliance. Think retro-futurism, jetson style. He was also often fighting with the mechanicus, creating quite a lot of tension between the two groups.
Horus, the Gangster of Nostramo: Horus was lucky. As a baby, he was found by people, and adopted, and raised in a loving, if poor family. But he saw the horrible corrupt system around him... And decided that he would be on top. He joined a gang, and climbed the rank, establishing his own empire in blood and fear, becoming the leader of the largest and most terrifying criminal syndicate on the planet. Rules are just suggestion in his eyes. To him, real power is being able to impose your will on others, and he has very few morals and what he would not do.
Corvus, the free spirit of Chogoris: In mongolian tradition, hunting eagles are an important animal. The legend say that baby corvus was found, because a large eagle screamed until the hunters came to discover her. She love the birds, and feel a deep, wild connection to them. Some say that they spy for her, that they would flew above the cities snd come back, whispering secrets. Other said that she could turn into mist and fly away with her beloved friends. In truth, she was mostly using her power, to hide and disappear, and strategy to take down the walled cities.
Konrad, The Oracle of Maccrage: Konrad Curze, this time around, get a happy story. His pod was found, and brought to Konnor and Euten, who immediately adopted the small baby with strange eyes. Quickly, they discovered that their sons had strange power, as their sons would go into fits and see the future, or wake up crying from nightmare of horrible visions. But always, his parents were there, reassuring him: he was burdened with a wonderful gift, a precious power that would help him make the world a better place, and they would always help him fight those apocalyptic visions of the future. As such, he was able to avoid the coup to assassinate his father, and became a symbol of hope and justice on his planet. He is an original, a little weirdo who babble about destiny and doesn't like clothes much, but he is, for once, loved.
Sanguinius, the cryptid of Fenris: the people of Fenris have a legend. Of a winged beastman, living in the mountains. It would slay wolves and bath in their blood, and sometime devour hunter that strayed too far in his territory. All his life, Sanguinius was hunted, feared and hated, by the people of Fenris. He was a wild creature, spoken of in legends, and had to be captured by the emperor himself, to finally become a human, and not a beast.
Mortarion, prince of Prospero: Morty, this time around, get the life he deserve. A kingly positions, love, family, educations... He learned to use his power, never feared them for a minute. But among the intellectual, his interest were seens as odd: he had a strange fascination for flora, and the way plants were linked to the wrap. Under his skilled hands, entire desserts could bloom into brilliant forest, humming with power. Such a strong link was sure to attract mysterious entities....
Lorgar, son of the Emperor on Terra: Lorgar, in a perfect roll of dice, went where Alpharius was suppose to go: right back home. He was raised by the Emperor and Malcador, and all his childhood, had a deep need to please his father, for him to pay attention to him. He is a skilled diplomate, knowing perfectly well how to navigate the high lords and politic of Terra, and would follow any order that his beloved father give him, blindly.
Leman, the Dog of Delivrance: Leman, even at an early age and away from any animals, had the instinct of a wolf. From a very young age, he would listen to the political dissident, and assimilate their belief. The good of the pack was important. They were all, in a way, part of his pack, and he should protect them all. He developed an extreme collectivist streak, and from then on, was a ride or die political activist and extremist. Every human life lost that could be prevented was a tragedy, and every soul mattered. They were all part of his pack. He is fiercely protective of his people, from the most noble of astarte, to the lowest ranked serf. Democratic voting should be applied in all major decisions, and he fully accept to be put in question.
Jaghatai, the barbarian of Baal: Jaghatai had the luck to lend on the mad max world, and he flourished there. He quickly was able to conquer most of his planet, and in general, was a proud road warrior, standing atop a roaring engine and smiling like a maniac, painted in the blood of his enemies. Hemight have encouraged and developed a cult toward motors and machine, wich fully developed into a mechanicus adjacent religion once they joined the imperium.
Rogal, the stolen child of Nocturne: Rogal Dorn was found on Nocturne, and very well loved by his parents, from a very young age. The problem was that, as a pre-teen, a dark eldar raid happened... And Roval was taken in as a slave. The following years were, for him, incredibly harrowing, especially since the drukhari were fascinated by this strange human that would heal fast and grow bigger than others. Still, they did not expect the white haired human to one day brake his chain, escape, and lead the slave of Commorragh into a large, open scale revolt. He was able to escape back into real space, with a large group of slave, and go back home, where he was seen as an hero. From that day onward, he became the terror of the Drukhari, as he swore to purge the galaxy of their race.
Roboute, the patient King of Barbarus: Roboute had... An horrible early life. You know what he endured. But when he was finally able to go down into the valley, to meet up humans, he promissed himself: he would clean the very air of his planet, and destroy the very mountains upon wich the monsters resided. He slowly, surely pushed the populations toward an industrial revolution, establishing large mines into those mountains, figuring out how dynamite itself worked, as he, slowly, prepared to force his own father down into the valleys.
Alpharius and Omegon, the Trickster of Ctonia: The twin were lucky- they were together. Not separated by anything or anyone. They never joined any of the numerous street gang, but instead become some sort of local legend, a vigilante hero, fighting corruption and crimes in the alley and protecting the people. Them being twins gave them an almost supernatural advantage, as they seemed to be everywhere at once, able to see everything. Their ability to pass as normal was also insanely usefull to their crime fighting Endeavor.
Vulkan, the revolutionary of Olympia: Vulkan, from a young age, was close to his sister. But he was also close to all the servent in the palace, and would often sneak out, to talk to the people, and realised early on that his own father was, well... A Dictator. And he did not like that discovery. He was emphatic, and did not see why they needed slaves, or why Calliphone could not rule the city, or why war was necessary! He started talking to the people... And they listened to him. More and more followed him, until he had fermented a full on revolution against his own father. His populist movement grew and spread to other cities, and quickly, his planet became a people's republic, and he had the pride to see his sister, who ha supported him every step on the way there, be elected first Chancellor of Olympia.
Lion, the Tyrant of Colchis: Lion was, in this world, found by Kor Phaeron... But also quickly adopted his way of thinking. He saw religions as a way to stay on top, a tool of power. He would readily conspire with the people around him, seeing assassinations as a completely valid way of asserting dominations. He never actually quite believed in the gods, but saw them as a useful tool, better than any law text to enforce one's will on the masses.
Angron, the Light of Inwit: Angron was dropped into a brutal world. It was not a cruel one per say, but it was one were you had to be dtrong to survive. And Angron, who could feel and take the pains of others unto himself... Could never accept such a situation. Their societydid not have to be as cold as the planet they inhabited, and he fought to establish to change all his life, backed by his beloved grandfather.

A bunch of thoughts after the Showtime transformations trailer. This was supposed to be about the Cowgirl and Ninja one but then I got inactive for a while and another trailer dropped, so this post is about both.
Btw for those wanting to see more than the trailers, the descriptions for the Showtime trailers of Nintendo Japan, Nintendo of America and Nintendo France/Italy all have a link that leads to different sites, each with their own footage (the French and Italian ones are similar). I believe the youtube channel GamesXplain is also trying to group all the footage. It does spoil more things though.
Anyways, thoughts under the cut (around 3.2k words):
- Screaming biting clawing feeling insane I’M SO EXCITED FOR THIS GAME!!! WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER MONTH FOR IT?!
- Very relieved they didn’t change anything other than the box art (not that they would have had the time to since the game is coming out this march, though the icon on the switch home menu will sadly probably be changed to the new art).
- Favorite design overall has to be Dashing Thief Peach. I adore the vibes going on with this costume! I’m also a big fan of Swordfighter (love the “fictional version of the Renaissance-era West-Europe” aesthetic), Figure Skater (the costume is so pretty!), Mermaid (also incredibly pretty, tho it’s funny how mermaid being the only one with her usual haircut makes her look almost weird compared to the other transformations), and Kung Fu (I especially like the color scheme).
I also really like Cowgirl Peach, though with that new trailer it’s going down a bit (she has an attitude I really like, it’s very unique for a character like Peach but there’s a level of playfulness to it that makes it work well, or maybe it’s the knowledge she’s acting, idk. And for some reason the Pow//ser shipper in me is very happy about Cowgirl Peach having horns on her hat).
- Least favorite is Mighty Peach. I want to say it’s because the design is too “basic” but in reality I think it’s just that I’m completely indifferent to Superheroes so this one just does nothing for me. I mean Detective Peach has a basic design and I’m giving it a pass since it’s a reference, which I’m pretty sure Mighty Peach is as well. So yeah, I think it has less to do with the design itself and more with it being a superhero transformation. The “stereotypical superhero run” she does is hilarious tho (from the french/italian websites).
I’m also not a big fan of Patissiere Peach, I think it’s the check pattern of her dress that I just don’t find appealing.
I also originally thought that I didn’t like Ninja Peach but in reality it’s one specific render that I dislike, the one where her scarf covers her mouth. I have no idea why I don’t like this render in particular but yeah, outside of it I do like Ninja Peach.
- Gameplay wise, Dashing Thief and Ninja Peach seem to be the most interesting (yes I like platforming, the stealth elements look really interesting too). Cowgirl Peach also looks really cool with a few diverse ideas. I’m pretty curious about what the Detective Peach segment will fully be about as well. Same for Figure Skater Peach, I’m very intrigued by it.
- Least favorite gameplay wise will probably be Patissiere Peach since I’m not really into that kind of games, with second being Swordfighter Peach due to how straightforwards and repetitive it looks. I also want to say I’m not sure how I feel about Mighty Peach’s gameplay, but again I think it’s just the superhero aesthetic I’m not into (I swear I don’t hate superheroes, I just don’t vibe with it, I also don’t like the “chosen one” trope which probably doesn’t help).
- Funnily enough, despite not finding the Patissiere segment all that interesting, I’m surprised there are no new minigame-centric costumes. Considering the original trailer gave us two action-oriented costumes (Kung-Fu and Swordfighter) and two minigames-oriented ones (Detective and Patissiere), I expected another two or three minigames ones. Like even Figure Skater is about beating up bad guys, and Mermaid Peach is more about exploring than music (ngl I expected a musical show at some point and Mermaid Peach would have been the perfect choice for it. Wdym Kingdom Hearts 2 did it and it sucked?).
That being said I’m still happy with what we got bc my main “fear” about there being too many action-oriented roles is with the possibility of the gameplay feeling too repetitive from one play to another. But from the looks of it, every play still remains unique, with each having their own way to beat up the sour bunch, so it’s all good!
On that note, Figure Skater Peach defeating enemies by dancing with them is the most Peach thing ever and low-key makes me wish the other action-oriented costumes also had unusual fighting styles (which might also be why as mentioned later I’m hoping for a magical girl finale).
- And since I mentioned repetitive gameplay, I’m glad they went with Mermaid instead of Pirate as some theorized, since with the Swordfighter transformation already being a thing, having a pirate one would have gotten repetitive.
- Also, despite not being a fan of Patissiere Peach, I’m still very happy that they gave Peach a baking-related transformation, considering how often her making cakes gets brought up in the mainline games. It’s a really sweet way to embrace and expand on such a recurring element.
- Thinking about it, Ninja Peach is pretty funny in concept. All those years of sneaking around Bowser’s Castle (or her own castle when Bowser takes it over) to send letters and items to Mario are finally paying off!
- In general all the transformations can be justified. Patissiere? She’s been into baking for years. Swordfighter? Doesn’t at least one Olympics game has a fencing minigame? Cowgirl? She’s been in enough sports to justify the use of a lasso, and at least one Olympics game has horse-riding. Ninja? Sneaking around is nothing new to her, same for platforming. Detective? She’s a smart person, of course she can do it. Kung Fu? Isn’t there a martial arts category in one of the Olympics games, meaning that even if it’s obviously not the same sport with the same techniques, it still justifies her ability to learn another sport that centers around physical fighting?
- Continuing on with the new transformations: Figure Skater? It’s in the Olympic Games. Dashing Thief? It seems to center around platforming so it’s nothing new to her. Mighty/Superhero? While unsure if it’s an actual attack the blast from her arms reminds me of the guns from the Rabbids games, and even outside of that the sport games can again justify her punching things. Mermaid? She 100% would, and if you want to dig deeper Superstar Saga claims her voice to be special.
- The more info and costumes we get about this game, the more it seems the internet understands why Bowser feels the way he does, which I find to be very funny.
- On that note, I’m incredibly happy to see not only how much Nintendo is promoting this game but also how positive the reception has been so far. Peach deserves her first fully original game to be a commercial success!
- There’s probably something to be said about how “games made for girls” (with the exception of indie games) usually suck with little effort put into them and how Showtime in comparison is a breath of fresh air that’s even able to include elements like dressing up while still taking their female audience seriously and giving them a high-quality product, but I don’t know enough about the topic to really say something meaningful about it.
- As someone who headcanons Peach as a Toad whose gem is what gives her human appearance, the fact each of her costumes (except Mighty) keep said gem makes me very happy.
- I’m curious what the final boss is going to be. Will we have a long level as some medley using all costumes one after the other? Will it be a brand new costume? Will it be normal Peach using Stella? Personally I’d love for the final boss to have a unique costume (*cough* Magical Girl *cough*), though I could also see the normal Peach one to allow Stella to punch Grape for ruining her theater, though the latter would kinda go against the point of the game being about theater and the costumes/acting. But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
- On that note, while I would go “the game ends with Grape dying bc Nintendo had killed their villains in RPGs many times”, I could also see something along the lines of Luigi’s Mansion 3 where at the end everyone lives and explains that all they wanted was to be included in the play, including Grape. So the game would end with Stella letting Grape and the Sour Bunch become actors as long as they stop doing shit like that and help cleaning up the mess.
Considering how kind of a person Peach is, an ending like that could work, and again it’s been done before with Luigi’s Mansion 3. Plus I’m pretty sure I saw a yt comment pointing out that as far as we know Peach is helping for the sake of helping, which is kind of true (unless it turns out her Toads get kidnapped). So far, it seems Peach has no personal stakes in this, unlike Mario going on adventures to save her or Pauline or prevent Bowser from taking over Kingdoms, and Luigi fighting the Boos to save his brother. So if she does have no personal stakes, it’s even more fitting with her unending kindness.
Granted I could also see the game ending with the Sour Bunch being defeated, or the Sour Bunch apologizing while Grape dies or is shunned from the group just like how King Boo is fully defeated in Mansion 3 and it’s the other ghosts who turn out to be nice.
- And since I keep comparing it to Luigi’s Mansion, does Luigi do the “thank you so much for playing my game” at the end of it? No bc if he does I want Peach to do so as well (on a related note I miss the characters saying “Nintendo” at the beginning of the DS games :( The Animal Crossing one was freaky I loved it)
- I’m curious how many segments we will play as “normal” Peach compared to the costume segments. Looking at the trailers and websites, my theory is that the first play (which seems to be Swordfighter) will have a fairly long segment with Normal Peach as tutorial before the transformation, while the other plays will have like one room/zone/screen with Normal Peach to set the tone and then immediately throw you into the transformation in the next room. Unless they throw some dialogues or puzzles at the beginning of each show to have Normal Peach stick around longer.
- Speaking of Normal Peach her little dancing animation when helping one of the theater people from the american website is absolutely adorable. I also love her idle animation.
- And since I’m talking websites, random observations but from the looks of it we will get a small cutscene both as Peach transforms and at the end of each segment. We can see it on the french/italian websites with Patissiere Peach giving a wink or the part from the trailer with Dashing Thief Peach paragliding in front of the moon, like she just escaped the place she stole from.
- On that note, I’m also curious what the coins will allow you to buy. More health? Something like Luigi’s Mansion 3 where you can buy a bone to stay alive? Some random collectibles?
- The voice will definitely take some time to get used to but I’m fine with it! I wouldn’t even call her new voice deep, it’s just a regular woman’s voice. Mario 64 gives her a “lower” voice than usual and it works very well.
Plus, Patissiere and possibly Figure Skater Peach use her usual higher pitch. “Normal” Peach also has her standard voice. So it does seem like this isn’t a permanent change, it’s just Peach being a good actor and changing her register to fit the character she’s playing as.
So while it will feel weird due to it being different, it’s a choice I can get behind (It might also feel weird due to Wonder keeping her high-pitched voice and even making it higher than usual at times, like when she gets a wonder seed; on that note Wonder is likely more proof that the change isn’t permanent; crazy how quick people are to forget this very recent game when freaking out about how Showtime might “change” Peach).
Gotta say I was surprised to hear Mermaid Peach having a deeper voice, but it’s also very fitting for a “siren” character to have this type of voice. It’s also funny that what is arguably the one overly-feminine costume is also the one with the deepest voice (her Figure Skater and Patissiere designs are also incredibly feminine but mermaids/sirens tend to be almost-exclusively women in stories and folklore).
Last minute addition since a few people were able to try out the game yesterday and put up some footage: the one negative thing I can say about her voice is that Normal Peach sounds very soft and quiet. I’m completely fine with her “Peach time” line and the noises she makes when using the ribbon, but other than that her “show time” and “let’s go” when entering a level on top of her cheering when unlocking something are all surprisingly lacking in enthusiasm.
It’s especially obvious when compared to the extended gameplay for Patissiere Peach who has a very cheerful and energetic tone. Now you could say Figure Skater Peach also has a softer tone but considering she’s acting and given the “serene” look on one of her promotional renders, it works. That’s also why I have nothing negative to say about her energy in the other costumes, she’s acting so it works. Then again given Patissiere is also a role I guess you could argue that her usual cheerfulness is actually her acting when being a Princess. 🤷‍♂️
(I’m actually surprised I wrote this much about the voice since, like I said, I’m fine with the changes. Like I’m looking at this part and going “I literally don’t care about it why is this so long???”. Tho I think it has to do with a mix of seeing other people focusing on it so I want to give my opinion, on top of some lingering worries of what Nintendo is going to do with Peach’s character in the years to come what with the mo//vie potentially influencing them; but yeah if it wasn’t for that worry I wouldn’t bat an eye about her voice being different.
This is actually a feeling I have about this game as a whole. Had the mo//vie either not come out or written Peach properly, I would be head over heels for Showtime without any apprehension since nothing about that game indicates a change in character.
But as it stands, part of me can’t help but be wary of what future games after Showtime will do with her, especially when looking at how much she smirks and her Cowgirl transformation on top of the deeper voice, all of which I would be completely fine with had the mo//vie not portrayed her the way it did. The box art change doesn’t help either.
Another reason I’m “blaming” the mo//vie for it is bc making that comparison post made me realize just how much I like Peach’s character. So no mo//vie with a bad portrayal, no comparison post, no realization, no concerns. And yes, having such worries over some random fictional character due to one portrayal out of fifty is both very dumb and very frustrating, I’m very much aware of that.)
- On a more negative note, I was originally 50/50 on the Kung Fu box art change (like her being more expressive, dislike the use of Mo//vie Peach’s facial features) and after seeing how expressive her game model is in that trailer and the new renders, I’m now fully against the box art change. They literally could have used the face she does in her kicking animation during the Kung Fu transformation from the get go, instead of putting a barely-emotive one and replacing it with a different character!
(And for the center one, if they wanted Peach to have a confident smirk on the box art, why not introduce Cowgirl Peach in the very first trailer and then have her on the box? Just saying)
- Not sure why but her eyebrows in particular bother me when looking at the box art changes. I’ve got two theories though:
1. I’m just used to how her face looks in the games so it being different makes it look weird. Especially since I have no issues with her having longer eyebrows when the rest of her face stays the same like in the Adventures Co//mic, some Stri//kers renders, some of the Showtime renders or even her in-game model for some transformations (tbh the difference in-game is so ridiculously small that complaining about it would be stupid, like that’s even more nitpicky than nitpicking). Or maybe it’s just the knowledge that the new art was based on the mo//vie, idk.
2. Considering the eyebrows didn’t bother me in the mo//vie but do in the box art, it might be due to people talking about how much more expressive the new art is, and eyebrows are heavily used when it comes to characters expressions so it’s easy to point the finger at them.
- Talking about all this actually makes me wonder if the box art change might have influenced some of the promotional renders, most notably the Cowgirl and Mighty “attacking” ones. But looking at how their eyebrows are drawn compared to the new Kung fu one, it doesn’t seem like it. Plus, the Kung Fu one was changed due to being on the cover. Then again, maybe there was in fact some influence, who knows.
- On that note, there’s something ironic about Cowgirl Peach, aka the costume based on the US, being the one whose facial expressions in the renders have a cockiness that could fit Mo//vie Peach very well, Mo//vie Peach being an original character from an US movie.
- With that said I’ve seen people complain about her dress being more like the mo//vie and I just don’t understand where this is coming from, including after going back to look at the mo//vie design. The most change I can think of is the bust part having visible stitches, but I see it the same way I see Mario in Odyssey having much more detailed overalls. Plus, the shoulder and “outside of stitches” parts in the mo//vie version are a darker shade of pink (at least it is in the wiki render), which isn’t the case in Showtime unless I’m missing something.
So yeah, I don’t see it. Had they added golden embroidery around her gem I would’ve understood the complains, but as it stands all they did was put one more detail on the dress, along with making the fabric more visible in general. Smash Bros have done more with it. Look I’m the first to agree Mo//vie Peach is a terrible adaptation and I don’t want her anywhere near the games, but there’s a difference between genuine complains and complaining for the sake of complaining.
- Oh yeah and I’m not buying the new joy cons. This shit is expensive and I already got working ones. Unless they put some art on it rather than just being one color, bc as it stands “it’s a joy con but pink!” isn’t enough to convince me to buy.

Hey so i know you're probably seeing a lot of angry responses right now and that not all of it is going to be constructive and it's going to be understandable to want to just shut it all out, But i hope you might listen and understand where that which IS constructive is coming from, as that anger is justified; AI generation software is constantly using artists work without their permission to generate things, there’s a strong chance that unless the software your using is explicitly against that practice (and even then. be cautious) that your textures are actually generated from another artists work- which sucks. Artists, including photographers (i cannot stress the inclusion of photography as art enough here), have a right to not allow automated technology to rip and redistribute their work as free assets without their permission.
Yes, you did do plenty of work after the fact to make your piece your own and i am in no way accusing you of laziness or doubting your skills and the outcome of the piece. You are an incredible artist! Which is why it is upsetting to see you comparing the current state of AI to software that to my knowledge doesn't usually rip other artists work, and that IS fully auto generated rather than just pulling from images it has no right to use and that people have not consented to have their work used for. Using textured brushes is wholly different from AI, as those are being provided by an artist with the intent for you to use. Yes, AI generation could in theory be a great tool for artists, but as it is currently built on the backbone of art theft and lack of opt-in consent for artists whose work and livelihood is constantly being ripped without their say it is NOT fit for that purpose. There are many (paid or free) brushes out there made by other skilled artists like yourself made to save time rendering. There are free image sites to use to find textures. You have options outside of a technology that is at this time supporting a massive wave of art theft and erosion of artists rights to their work; the issue is not using time saving skills, it is using one that artists have been very vocal about the issues it is causing for them.
If I wanted to shut it out I wouldn't disclose the fact that AI was even used. Instead, I wanted to show that this thing isn't an enemy to artists, quite the opposite in my humble opinion. That and let's face it, the devil is out of the box and this technology isn't going anywhere, so it's beneficial to learn how it can be incorporated into the workflow.
Speaking of how the algorithm learns. It doesn't produce collages of existing works, instead it learns the pattern of how something should look. If someone stuffed my artwork into a data set and an AI created something reminiscent of the way I would draw, then the algorithm is stealing from me the same way I am stealing from Toulouse Lautrec, Moebius, Claude Mone and nature photographers. Personally I wouldn't be mad at a machine doing the thing I do all the time, but it's just me.
But I understand it's a devisive issue so everyone is entitled to their opinion. As it stands, the whole thing is in gray area both legally and ethically. Curious to see what the opinion of it will be when the dust settles and it stops being a novelty.
In conclusion, I don't really plan on using today's technique habitually, I mostly wanted to offer an opinion as someone who's involved with both programming and artistic side of things.

📍Worlds 2017 Post FD
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this moment.. discussed, and as I was watching this comp to make another post recently I got stuck on this moment I’d seen several times, but it hit me in the feels more significantly this time round.
First let me set the scene (which you can go watch for yourselves on the full video here starts at 3:30:40).
Once the competition has finished, VM make their way from backstage under the stands to the k+c/ marshalling area for the medal ceremony. But before that they are to give an interview. A camera person has followed them out to this area and there are a few different people wanting their attention. First, someone from the US fed/team who shakes their hands (says congrats) then one of the competition officials asks them something, then the lady who congratulations them and tells them she will do their interview. They can’t go straight to the k+c yet however because the team who competed last (right after VM), HD are still there (and after a disappointing skate are still being consoled by their coaches). So VM patiently wait off to the side. Then it’s here when this gif starts.
TS only had Marie with them in the K+C, however both Marie and Patch watched their skate and knew they had won- despite not being the last team to skate, they had a large enough lead after the short to essentially render them unbeatable (even with his misstep). When they left the K+C after their skate, they unlikely watched the final team or knew the final result as it pertained to HD, so as they came out for their interview they were probably not fully aware of what was happening in the K+C- obviously they saw they were sad but maybe didn’t know their final placement. Both Patch (and that other coach I don’t like) were with HD in the K+C, so Patch comes from there over to VM.
Now, let’s not kid ourselves, we all would like to admit that there is nothing ‘wrong’ with two men embracing like this- and we’d be right- there absolutely is not. But inevitably just bc of.. society (more so social norms of the past- it’s hopefully changing now) this is not the most common thing to see, and therefore, at least for me and I would assume many others, illicits more of an emotional reaction just bc we don’t see it all the time. It shouldn’t be weird- it’s not weird, but it’s still not something you see everyday.
So with that out of the way… what a truly beautiful moment this is.
I’m not gonna go all on again about Scott and what he was dealing with personally that season (iykyk if not hmu and I’ll tell you/look at some previous posts), he’s said even by earlier 4CC that season he was emotionally wiped, so by now, with the relief of the season finally being done, they had won, there was no needing to hold it all together for the sake of competition anymore. You could tell in the K+C after their skate how drained he was, at least to me it seemed it wasn’t just exhausted from the skate or the misstep, it was a culmination of things.
We’ve looked at previous posts the wonderful way T took care of him in those moments in her own quiet way and just being herself- being there with him was everything he needed (being with her (holding her hand/looking in her eyes) was the only time he felt ok 🥺).
But of course they were not alone in this comeback- and they made sure everyone knew that. The support they had from their team was as important as the support they gave each other, and it’s interesting the different ways that support is displayed- the similar yet different ways between T&S and either of them with a coach.
As I said-in the k+c, he was so obviously drained of energy, emotion, I felt so bad for him but also so proud of him and them for achieving what they did that year, and bad that it wasn’t as excellent as they wanted that final skate to be. Here waiting off to the side, it may be the lighting on his face but he almost looks like he’s about to cry, just so depleted of energy. It may have been that he saw Patch walking over and that was the look of near tears.. The way P seemingly doesn’t even say ‘congrats’ to him/ them. Obviously all skaters/athletes in general have special relationships which their coaches so it’s not like this is whole exchange is unique, but just the way there is communication without words- same thing S has with T but in a different way that is unique to them. The way S almost falls into P, like he just needs someone to hold him up bc he’s so exhausted. P goes to him like ‘here, let me hold you’- that’s what S needed to ‘hear’ in that moment rather than ‘congrats’. Also to see two men embrace like that (& esp when you know the relationship in this case is very special). It’s not a hug of ‘congratulations’ because he doesn’t really need to congratulate them, they don’t need that from their coaches, or more they don’t need it verbalised in that way. They have a deeper connection with them and for P+S, P knows what S needs in that moment is to just be cared for as a human.
I’m so freakin attracted to S for this reason- that he’s so open with his emotions and accepting and giving of affection. Describing him/them often as ‘soft’ isn’t a joke- it’s what they are and it’s an umbrella term to describe their affection and sensitivity.
Then if all that wasn’t beautiful enough, the way T just gently steps back a little to give them space. She is not being excluded, P is of course going to hug her as well, she does not find this awkward. She knows S needs a hug from P and so she gives them that space. I’m really not explaining it very well but I know what it says when I watch it and I’m just hoping y’all reading are getting what I’m trying to put into words.
This all goes back to TS’s just unbelievable level of knowing of one another and now having coaches who they trust enough and want them to be on some sort of level of knowing with them. The way she can be part of that hug without being part of that hug. How they can support each other with out being the one hugged/doing the hugging. The way they are so gentle with their emotions towards each other and create a safe space for each other to feel what they need to feel.

Bryan with lava eyes :DDD
It’s been a while since I fully colored smth :,)
Here’s the Sketch and the one with a background!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I attempted to make lava. I’m not sure if it went well lmao.
I also don’t know how to draw or render muscles but BUFF BRYAN SUPREMACY!
HE IS SLIGHTLY TONED BUT HE CAN FLATTEN A STONE FUCKING COUNTER THATS CANON FIGHT ME
Honestly, I’m not sure if I can write this AU. With confidence I mean. I already got like a 15k word outline going on and it’s still going and it’s been like that for the past 3 years. Yeah. Pretty crazy. But if I can’t write this then I might resort into posting a bulleted list on what I should’ve written in the betterment of those 3 years instead of making a long ass outline to get it out into the world.
I love this AU, you have no idea, but it is so hard to write. So bear with me. I’ll give a bit of insight into it.
• This is a canon divergence of the canon timeline where instead of Bryan taking the hit, it’s Molten taking the hit. (My guy is not having a great time. Both of them.)
• This AU is canon defiant to the actual lore in Bryan’s series. A lot actually. This is a bit more canon compliant to the Fnaf storyline. Focusing more on spirits and souls than portals and portal magic. Soul juice produced from murdered children. All that good stuff. Don’t get me wrong, I love the series but I wish it focused on the souls of the kids and their stories if only a little.
• Let’s say there are a lot of hidden secrets in the old pizzeria that Bryan would carry to his grave. Most of them is guilt. The other is shame borderlining to self loathing.
• “No one would ever believe you.” :)
• This AU’s pov is also on the animatronics side. Mostly Freddy, Helpy (the old one), and maybe probably Foxy (the Rockstar one) I miss them, okay?
• Pat is around too. Watching over the animatronics while getting deathly afraid of them for a definite period of time before making friends with them because wow, those robots aren’t actually gonna force them into a Freddy Fazbear suit. Why did they listen to a pre-recorded message anyway?
• Jon is the one that stumbles onto the secret. But its not complete. He wonders where he should find the other pieces.
• You know OG Freddy? How he was repaired? Yeah. That part wasn’t the only thing that brought him back to life.
• And the monitor Lefty stole from the pizzeria? Maybe Egg Baby? Wonder whats that for?
• The book that Bryan gave to Twisted Bonnie also changed. Still has the blueprints of the animatronics but of different animatronics.
• “Hmmmm, I wonder what I can do for Baby’s birthday? How can I make it her happiest day of her shortlived li—wait, can I even say that?????”
• Also, does anyone know what happened to Twisted Freddy? Did he just become the wind or what? We’ll see.
• Since Lefty didn’t die, let’s say Shadow Freddy had other places to be. And Twisted Wolf? Honestly forgot about that guy hahaha I’ll think of something.
• Oh! EB (Evil Bryan) is there too! Like actually.
• It’s quite funny to have two short humans going on offense while literal monsters go on support and defense lmao. What a bunch of losers.
• “See you on the flipside!”
• Hey. What’s up with Bryan’s eyes?
That’s all for now. Maybe I’ll post another one or work on a chapter? Who knows…
I can’t promise anything. I can only promise that the next will take a whileeeeeeee, a post or a chapter.
I still have not named this AU and marked it as INSERT TITLE HERE.
And to those that recognize that title, I am so sorry. I literally redid the first 5 chapters, finished 4, then dropped it off at chapter 7-8. Chapter 1-4 are finished but 5-8 is a land mine. I don’t know how to keep it going lmao. No really, it’s a struggle writing this dang thing and I want it out of my head too. I can’t promise any chapters or that I’m working on it because I’m so busy but I did not forget it if thats what you’re thinking. It’s just hard to write. Like really hard. That’s why I focused a bit on oneshots.
One things for sure though. It’s either chapter 5, 6, or 7 BUT—
Minigames. Plus Springtrap.
ITH!Bryan: Oh joy.
Feel free to ask questions about this AU! I’d be happy to answer! (Most of them anyway. Can’t reveal everything.)

I wanna say a few things about Synthesizer V, because a lot of vocal synth fans, especially of mainly Vocaloid and UTAU, tend to misconstrue intent when it comes to wishing for vocals to migrate or cross-platform on the engine.
-It isn't about 'realistic,' or at least for the most part. It isn't about disliking their classic robotic sound just because of progress. I'm gonna say it- I do dislike Vocaloid 6. I don't think that's an unpopular opinion. But I don't hate Vocaloid in general, and want badly for the software to improve.
Banks like Gumi and Una got smoother transitions and (bad) crosslang... at the cost of getting put through a white noise factory. Their V4s were much clearer and even Gumi V3 English was far more reliable, while their V6 updates sound as though someone in the recording booth is rubbing styrofoam and the mic lacks a pop filter. Supposedly in the name of the iconic 'Vocaloid sound' that the type of engine noise doesn't even resemble. And for those who like the robotic sound and don't like SynthV because it's not, I've got news for you- you can have it without the fuzz.
For one, you can tune robotically in SynthV very easily. Tune entirely manually like any non-AI program, and since there's very little of that metallic twang, certain effects just move to mixing. Rather than taking out the sound of engine noise, it's putting certain things back in instead, which is a lot easier to do than the inverse- and the option of keeping things sounding more natural and clean without all that work is a huge bonus for people who don't think that sound fits their taste or style.
I personally love robotic-sounding vocals. But a clean, clear, and fluent base render output is essential to get the most out of your sound. I love Eleanor Forte R1/lite because that's what she is. Clean, clear, and fluent. But not realistic in any sense, unless compared to previous vsynths. She's probably just an Arpasing bank with higher render quality, but she's amazing regardless. And free too!
-Accessibility. SynthV is very accessible and easy to pick up. There's a limited version to try it out and make projects at the cost of fancy features that even allows commercial use, and many voicebanks have lite versions also with limited features and no commercial use. There aren't time limits on trying out the program- and just like Vocaloid, if you tune something with one vocal you can send it to a friend to render with another. Having lite voices to work with a lower quality version of the same voice that will render it means you actually know for the most part what you'll get, save for a couple quite old exceptions.
And when you do want full versions, it's dirt cheap. It's cheaper than Cevio, and far moreso than Vocaloid or Piapro. The two most expensive voicebanks on the program convert to roughly $120USD, and they're known for their special features and high quality. Most are 60-90 for digital, and SynthV voicebanks are feature-rich with the equivalent to appends already built in.
Full versions of AI voicebanks (the current gen) are also multilingual with little quality loss between languages, mainly just an accent. No need to purchase a separate English voicebank with no appends or deal with extremely clunky input and tuning. Currently four- (soon five!!) are options usable for any voice. Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, English, and when testing is done, Spanish will go from being exclusive to one bank to fully available.
It's also just generally very user-friendly. Especially if you dip your toes in with the basic editor before being barraged with all the features of pro, everything is laid out simply. While the UI could use a minor revamp because it's getting crowded and being able to resize the sidebars would be nice, there isn't really anything bad to say about it. As someone who'd hardly touched vocal synths myself, I knew how to work it in hours.
Oh, the autopitch. This one is contentious. There is a certain laziness to doing plug-n-play on a cover and calling it a day, just like with any other vocal synth. However, on originals, or working with it to make sure the voice cooperates, more time can be spent on phonemes, parameters, and mixing. Calling SynthV bad because it's just 'too easy' is gatekeeping vocal synths, plain and simple. Being able to make what you want without having to manually make every single pitchbend or fight with the program before getting to do anything more interesting is a way to make people more creative, not less.
-In regards to people complaining about the updates- aside from Stardust because of her limited copies and discontinuation, previous versions are still there! Dreamtonics doesn't give companies or individuals predatory contracts that force them to stop distributing older products with the same VP or wait for years to move. They're okay with their voices being on multiple engines and still supported. You'll still get your UTAU Teto, Renri, Oscar and XYY, Cevio Rose, Popy, and Kafu, and Vocaloid Gumi, Sora, Miki, and Kiyo. And you'll get your SynthVs!
Synthesizer V, Voicepeak, and Dreamtonics are not turning into a monopoly. Vocaloid still has tenure and the current version has a backlog spanning back to V3. Cevio has some heavy hitters that make it huge in Japan. Ace Studio is big in China and has the Vsingers. If you see characters coming to SynthV, that speaks of the quality of the program and its capabilities of bringing a wider audience. It has naturalness for those that want it, high quality render output, expressiveness, fluent English for marketing to the west, and Windows, Linux, and Mac support. There's nothing wrong with wanting options, and the companies know this. It's broadening the market, not vice versa.

An author ask for woo, if we did get pmd5, what would you like to see in it?
// this question is a bit difficult to think about since I feel like PMD as a franchise and my own personal preferences have gotten to a point where they're going different directions- I suspect there probably won't be any future PMD games that entirely be ideal for my tastes, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. but some things I'd like to see are...
Good variety of pokemon (if we get another Gates in this regard I will be Sad. It doesn't have to be literally every pokemon that's shown up but 151 is a bit sparse...)
On that same train of thought, more hero/partner options that aren't just starters. I want weird shit in there like Machop and Phanpy again, give me some stuff that makes me go "why is that here?"
Good mix of accessibility mechanics and challenging gameplay (I think along the lines of Explorers and Super. Settings to toggle mechanics like the auto-movement would also be nice. And PLEASE bring back the standard A attack I'm begging you)
A UI that is generally clean and compact would also be nice- in the post where I talked about my problems with DX I attributed the busyness of the UI to only having a single screen to work with on the Switch, and I conveniently forgot PMD started on a single screen console with the GBA. I don't consider Rescue's UI to be visually crowded at all, so I'm back to the stance of "they should fit everything on the screen better".
If they simply MUST use 3D models and don't want to render new ones, then I just want portraits to emote again. Looking at Gates it seems they had a pretty emotive portraits. I imagine DX looking as bland as it did was because they ported portraits directly from PSMD, which had like, 720 pokemon all with at least 3 portraits (which was understandable for that game, I'm just appalled they didn't even bother remaking portraits for important NPCs in DX). Like look at this little guy he's crying out of his ear. His ear hole shrinks when he's shocked. He's hilarious and I want more portraits like this.
Tumblr media
Something new with the story would be nice :,) ESPECIALLY the ending. Please I am begging. After 4.5 games (DX is only half a game to me since it's a remake) where it ends with the hero vanishing into light and the partner crying about it, it starts to lose its punch. And ngl when I got to the farewell scene in PSMD I was fully expecting another farewell, and I said to myself "if the partner leaves this time I'll bust out laughing". You can guess how that ended. I feel like PMD could offer a lot of different points of exploration in a story that aren't just "natural disaster threatens to blow everyone up" or "everyone was too sad :/ and now the world is blowing up". (Not that those are bad bases for a story, but PMD games tend to have very simple writing that doesn't explore stuff in depth, so it's hard for them to put a new spin on those takes.)
And that's about all I can think of off the top of my head! Unfortunately for you all I have a new crack theory to impart upon you that may be upsetting. I think the Pokemon Presents will not announce a new PMD. They'll mention the Gameboy Virtual Consoles, and show off a list of games that will be on it. Red Rescue Team will be there. And that'll be the end of PMD news. Enjoy this cursed theory.

Surviving Dead
I don’t know if it is still a thing by the time you read this, but did you know that in Minecraft there was a bug where the Ender Dragon’s breath attack would still kill you even if you were holding a totem of undying? You would lose your items and then come back where you last set your spawn…
Cross-posted on AO3 here: Surviving Dead
____________________________________________
Cleo was born the day after she died.
Now, that probably doesn’t make much sense, does it? Unless you know Cleo pretty well. Then you would agree that the statement suits her.
She was a zombie, after all.
You might be able to tell if you spent enough time around her. Would notice the scar beneath her eye that never fully healed or faded. Or notice the way her hair and nails never grew any longer. The pale, bloodless skin that almost looked green in certain lighting was probably the biggest clue, though.
But it was more than that, though. Unlike the rest of the hermits who weren’t ‘undead,’ she left no trace.
Joe was the first one to notice it after she joined the server. She had misjudged the distance on her leap. The ground came rushing up to meet here.
“Whoah!”
She knew it wouldn’t hurt when the bones broke. That she of all people had the least to worry about if she died. Respawn was a nuisance that lost you time and left you scrambling to refind your items. But that didn’t stop the fear from seizing up her arms and legs. Her brain still went blank with panic, rendering the water bucket in her inventory useless. She always did have a fear of heights, and therefore afraid of the ground itself.
ZombieCleo fell from a high place
Cleo rolled out of bed with an annoyed sigh. At least she didn’t have to travel far without armor or tools.
Joe was waiting for her with a chest back by the cliffside. He sat on its lid, twiddling his thumbs, when she picked her way back down.
“I put your stuff in the chest,” he offered, slipping off the lid. ”I wasn’t sure where you would have set your spawn…”
“Oh, my bed’s not far.” She flipped open the lid. Sure enough, he had laid out the armor, pick, and sword carefully along the base of the chest so they wouldn’t scratch against each other. There were also a few stray ink sacks and a flower piled in the corner. When had she picked up those?
“You know, Cleo, I… uh… I saw you fall back there.”
If it had been anyone other than Joe, she would have rolled her eyes. “Yes, I realize. No need to go rubbing it in my face now. I never claimed to be good at survival.”
“No! No no no,” Joe threw his hands out, shaking his head. “That’s not what I meant!”
“Then what did you mean?”
The chest lid creaked closed once more. Now Cleo was the one to sit down on top of it so she could lace up her armor. The buckles on the chestplate were difficult to undo with undead fingers still half numb from respawning.
Another set of hands reached into view. Joe picked up the next strap down. He slid the leather through the metal clasp for her with ease. “I don’t know… I just… I’ve never seen you drop dead right in front of me before. Or if I did I never really noticed. It looked like you didn’t leave a body behind. You vanished the instant you hit the dirt.”
“Ah.”
When your average person died, their body lingered for a moment. There would be a flash of pain as the damage to their flesh and bones set in before their consciousness moved on. The husk they had left behind would linger for a moment, nothing more than an empty shell without a soul and nowhere to go. And after that short moment passed and reality caught up with the newly respawned hermit, the body would fade away only to eventually appear sometime later as nothing more than a hollow shell destined to wander the land looking for the piece of itself that had moved on without it. Forevermore looking for something to fill the gaping hole left inside.
A zombie, if you will.
Cleo didn’t have that issue. She had never come across previous iterations of herself. There were no other Cleo’s wandering around the caves like there were Joes, or Jevins, or Bdubs, or any other hermit, really. Nor would that ever happen.
She stopped bothering with the chest plate and moved on to the boots. She let Joe take it over instead. Regular laces were easier to tackle when you didn’t have circulation in your hands.
Joe took the chest plate without question. He sat down on the chest next to her, sliding the large piece of armor into his lap as he moved. Brown eyes flicked back and forth behind green glasses from the chest plate to Cleo’s face and back again.
“It’s fine. It’s FINE. It’s just a thing I do,” she muses. “One of those things that comes with not actually being alive. Don’t go worrying about it.”
“Are you sure it’s alright?”
“Of course. It’s normal for me.”
“Does it hurt?”
“B-what?!” Cleo dropped her half-tied laces. It took a moment for her to register what he was asking before she broke down laughing. Some of the tension left Joe’s shoulders as he realized she wasn’t upset. He even chuckled along nervously.
“No,” she said once she recomposed herself. “If anything, it hurts less when I respawn than it would when you do.” Part of it was because she didn’t have a body that would linger. Part of it was because her dead nerve endings couldn’t send out those sorts of signals at the rate a normal human body could. They were stunted and slow in comparison.
She finished up with the laces and pulled out the leggings. There were more straps on these, but she only had to loosen a few to slip back inside.
“I’m sorry,” Joe said with a nervous smile. “I guess I never really thought about how things might be different for you, with you being a zombie and all. “You’ve just been Cleo for as long as I’ve known you, and then something like that happens in front of my face and I can’t help but think, ‘Oh! That’s different.’”
“In all fairness, you met me after all this happened.” She motioned to herself.
“If I might ask, how did it happen?”
The strap fell from between her fingers.
“Only if it’s alright with you, though,” Joe added. He had finished up with the chest plate by now. It rested in his lap, waiting for whenever she was ready to throw it on. He leaned over. One shoulder gently bumped against her side. “You don’t have to tell me anything if you don’t want to. But if you do want to…”
She pursed her lips. "I don't think it's a matter of me not wanting to. It's more like I don't think I can."
Joe's nervous eyes narrowed. She could practically see the gears in his brain go into motion as he tried to parse out what she meant. "I didn't mean to bring up bad memories."
"That’s not it. It’s more like there isn't much for me to remember. I can't recall."
Her life before her undeath was an empty gap in her mind. Sometimes there were vague notions and feelings that crept up behind her when she least expected it. For instance, she had a feeling she had been a teacher in her previous life. It was her best guess considering the odd sense of deja vu that set in whenever she lectured one of the other hermits. It felt right.
Cleo was also fairly certain that who she had been before her untimely undeath had been a lot like who she was now. She wasn’t your typical wandering zombie. She didn’t hunger to fill some empty feeling deep inside. She still had a soul. A personality. A need to explore interests and desires. There was talent in her hands that let her build palaces and raise crops. That had to have come from somewhere. “Do you at least know how it happened?”
Sort of. But that wasn’t a very good answer.
“The first thing I can remember was being afraid. More afraid than I have ever been since,” she started. One leg of armor was fully strapped on. Her leg was firmly strapped into the greave of the other, covering everything from the knee down. The cuisse that was supposed to be covering her thigh was still hanging from the knee. Her hands moved automatically to finish tightening the leather fastenings into place.
“It was like I just woke up that way. One moment everything’s dark, and then the next, my eyes fly open and all I can think about is ‘I can’t breathe.’ I couldn’t see. I couldn’t move either, even though it felt like I was shaking like a leaf.“
It hurt like crazy, too. Not that I was physically hurt as far as I could tell later. But I suppose it’s a bit like how you describe dying from fall damage. You guys all say that you come back feeling like every bone in your body should be broken.”
But for me, it felt different. My skin burned like I had just been dipped in acid. When I closed my eyes, I saw an endless black sky and glowing purple eyes staring back at me. There was a little bit of that fear of falling, too. Like I thought I should have been falling through an abyss instead of lying down-“
“So that’s why you don’t like the End,” Joe cuts her off, eyes widening in realization. He pats a closed fist within the palm of his other hand like he’s just cracked a particularly difficult code.
“I don’t mind the End,” she snaps, playfully jabbing him in the side with an elbow. “I just have no illusions about it. I am fully aware that it is a terrible, dangerous place. And I have a healthy sense of self-preservation, unlike the rest of you.”
By now her legs are fully strapped into the armor. Joe offers the chest plate. He holds it up for her so she can slip inside. Then he reaches for the buckles at her side while she holds it in place. “We’re all professionals here. I’ll have you know that last time we beat the dragon I only cried once and died thrice.”
This time, Cleo really did roll her eyes. “Somehow, that’s still better than what I managed on that trip. Now where was I? Oh! So yeah, it didn’t feel like my bones were broken. I don’t think I died of fall damage, at least.”
“But the really weird part was that I woke up underground. In a box. Someone had gone and buried me. They must have thought I had been dead dead. No respawn. No fading body. Just me. And I suppose I was dead. It’s not like I have a heartbeat for them to feel anymore.
“It was pitch black down there. It took some fumbling around, but I managed to feel some other things in the box with me. There were jagged bits of ceramic. Couldn’t tell what those were. Some dead flowers were up by my head. They were nothing but dried-out leaves and petals at that point. And then there was a diamond pick. Whoever had buried me had been nice enough to put the pick in the box with me before closing the casket.
“It wasn’t enchanted, but it was better than nothing. There wasn’t much room to move around in the box. I couldn’t sit up straight or bend far enough to reach my toes, so I used the spike on one end to start scratching at the lid over my chest. It was the best I could do since I couldn’t swing it.
“The scraping noise it made was awful, but eventually I managed to break through. Soil came raining down as soon as I did. The hole I made widened as the dirt pressing down on it shifted. It all came down on top of me.
“It was heavy and it was everywhere; pressing down on my lungs, pinning my arm down… It got threateningly close to where I might just accidentally breathe it in…
“It felt like I would suffocate down there. In retrospect, it’s a good thing I don’t actually need to breathe. If I had, I probably would have been stuck in a death loop, assuming that my spawn was there at the time. It would have had to have been since that casket was the last place I had slept. And I was definitely having a panic attack so you can be sure there was no oxygen left in that box.
“And then I had to make the whole situation worse by pulling more dirt in. There was too much on top of the box. If I pushed out, it wouldn’t go anywhere. So it had to go somewhere. I had to use that pick to shove as much dirt as I could off to the bottom of the casket where my feet were.
“That seemed to do the trick, though. Once some of that soil wasn’t piled on top of the lid anymore, the ground had a bit more give to it. I could drag myself out through the mud, hand over hand…
She was vaguely aware that Joe had stopped messing with the straps hanging from her chest plate. Instead, he wrapped one arm around her shoulders and pulled her against his chest. The armor clattered at the sudden movement. “Joe-?”
His eyes were watery behind the lenses of his glasses. His other arm pulled her in for a tighter squeeze. “You must have been so scared.” Yeah. That’s pretty much how she started explaining all this. Still, it was Joe. “Yeah.” She awkwardly brought her own arm up so she could pat his back reassuringly. “But it’s alright now.”
He returned her pat with a well-meaning one of his own against her shoulder, only to wince as the edge of her armor dug into his ribs. She pulled away and he didn’t protest. “But I still don’t get it. How did that death end up so different?”
“I’m not entirely sure after that. I just kinda rolled with what happened around me after that. It didn’t take me too long to figure out I had a few quirks. But there was one thing about that dumb box that gave me an idea or two about what happened.”
One of Joe’s eyebrows went up.
“I, uh… I went back to the gravesite later. It was so surreal, but I ended up digging it back up to check the casket for clues. It took me a while to clear out all the dirt that had spilled in from the top, but remember when I mentioned those little ceramic things I didn’t recognize?”
Joe nodded.
‘Well, when I looked at them in the daylight, they looked like broken pieces of a totem of undying.”
She paused, giving Joe plenty of time to mull over what she had just said. She watched his face flicker from one expression to another: from contemplation to confusion, to disbelief, to bewilderment. “Are you saying that you must have used a totem and it didn’t work?”
“I’m saying I don’t know for sure,” she stated plainly. “But I suspect that a totem went off and it only partially worked.”
It made sense to her. Totems bound the soul to the body in times of extreme duress. The latent power inside was so strong that it could heal in an instant and protect the flesh from future damage, if only for a little while. So let’s say the totem wasn’t fully charged, or didn’t break fast enough, or whatever other possible mishap happened that she could reasonably think of. Was it really that unreasonable to think that the totem only half worked? It could have succeeded in anchoring her soul to this body but hadn’t been enough to actually save her.
The last few buckles on her chest plate slid into place. She was once more fully protected from the dangers of this world. Or as protected as she could manage. Both she and Joe stood up. He gave her a few steps worth of space so she could pick up the chest.
“That’s actually terrifying to think about,” he said, burying his hands in his pockets. “I wonder if you got bugged out. Have you talked to Xisuma? Or any other admin on any other server?”
Cleo nodded. “I have. X took a look and it doesn’t show that there’s anything wrong with me. If it was a bug, it would be server-related. I am what I am no matter where I go, remember?”
“I know. I know. It’s just.. How does that even happen?”
She shrugged and smiled. “Your guess is as good as mine.” That’s all it really was, anyway. A guess. “Now come on. We’ve wasted enough time here. I need to get down in the mines if I’m going to have any diamonds this season.”

another year another silan portrait babey.... a few days late this time but we still ballin'
i've been very into manga cover design lately (studying them, making my own, etc) so it only felt right to incorporate that into this year's portrait, right? and go way overboard designing the entire front, back and spine including a blurb and barcodes and retail/publishing info, right?? and then go all in on making a matching japanese version with its own alternative blurb and barcode area bc u can't have one without the other, right?? obviously!!!!
like i said i've been really into manga design-
thoughts & details belooow
funnily enough this ended up being an actual portrait again after i did away with them in favor of illustrations in recent years, but ig it's fitting since this is the 10th one, right? (more on that later i wrote this out of order-) a callback to the first one all those years ago... the other reason it's a portrait is bc art has been fighting back lately and a full illustration probably would have been a lot; most importantly tho i just thought this composition would make for a cool dramatic manga cover heh heh
anyway bro the impossible happened i fully rendered flowers AND completed the portrait this year hello??? this has never happened since the v first year wait i just checked it happened in 2019 too this has not happened since 2019 wowie!!!! i put my whole ass into those flowers pls observe them (except the tall purple ones don't look too closely at those. look at the pansies they're my fave ♥️)
this year we have morning glories taking center stage, surrounded by pansies, forget-me-nots, some kind of nondescript purple perennial or perhaps lavender, and some kind of pink blossom (idk that one was just a space filler). don't ask abt the random petals on his mouth & collarbone uhh theres some kind of flowering tree growing just offscreen it's possible
anyway the morning glories are significant bc they represent sythra, silan's twin sister; in my mind her colors are blue & yellow and it seemed like such a good fit, so i'm officially adding it to the Flower Lore (there is no flower lore)
there is, however, Twin Lore; silan's eyes are brown and sythra's are blue, but when they're telepathically linked their left eyes exchange color (so silan's becomes blue & vice versa). the flowers here are meant to represent that, like sythra isn't here but at the same time silan carries her with him wherever he goes... smth like that
the plot described in the blurb is like, sort of what happens but i simplified things for the sake of a neat little fake manga blurb. nobody asked me to do this yet here we are. if i were being realistic abt it this would probs be like vol 2 BUT i made it the 10th volume bc this is?? the 10th silan portrait??? i did the first one in 2014?? hello??? time is fake (my hc is that it's a slice of life club manga about flower pressing for the first 9 volumes but it pivots hard in vol 10 bc the author got so sick of drawing flowers no i am not projecting-)
now regarding the japanese version: i tried my best*
*(if u or a loved one know japanese ur not allowed to make fun of me ok orz i used 姉妹 bc theres no way for silan & sythra to know who's the older twin & idk what u would do in that situation like do u just pick one & go w it or is there another hierarchy-neutral word for sister, 姉妹 is the best i can do w my limited knowledge and even then it probably just sounds like silan is having twin girls which like good for him but even so if i sound like a dork keep it to urself ok but actually do tell me if u know bc i would like to Learn ik this is probably the least of my worries when it comes to that entire paragraph but rn we are just going to focus on the issues i know about and pretend that everything else is fine as is ok thank u for ur time & have a lovely day ur a star ⭐️)
misc fun facts aka u learn how unhinged i was abt this:
the title is May 16th bc that's just what silan's story has always been called. luckily i have that up my sleeve or i'd have had to come up w smth out of my ass like The Silan Portrait or some shit
the author and publishing company are both called astralibrary yes that's me (it has a nice ring to it as a manga publisher name don't u think). i made up the logo on the spot it's my best work. especially the one in the bottom right of the japanese bar code area where i just typed the name and put a star next to it bc that makes it look professional somehow
i stole borrowed the barcodes from existing manga i have good pics of (bc i have an entire folder in my gallery dedicated to manga covers & jpn typography, unrelated); the english one is hanako-kun vol 4, and the japanese one is after the rain vol 10. i changed all the numerical codes tho (variations on the date 5/16 repeating)
i made up the english prices but i picked ¥640 specifically bc that's the price of the natsuyuu volumes i have in my manga covers folder, my only possible point of reference,
rated teen even tho in my mind it'd be targeted more towards young adults; it doesn't have anything in it that would warrant a mature rating but it does feel strange to categorize it in this way even knowing these ratings don't necessarily dictate the target audience
i thought about messing around w the design of the japanese version more to reflect some of the design sensibilities i've observed in japanese manga, like different placement of the text on the cover or a different spine entirely (since they tend to differ a lot between jpn and eng versions)- i even thought about trying to design an obi (long strip of paper that wraps all the way around the bottom portion of the book, usually has announcements & promotional stuff on it), but that is a whole ass project for another day i think this'll do just fine for now skdjlfkdg
and there u have it, thank u for reading my yearly essay abt drawing i did! sometimes u need to go aaaaaa about smth u drew and that's ok 👌
---
edit: oh yea i forgor i should write transcriptions of the blurbs here we go

if you create, you're an artist
we're starting to write our teaching philosophies in my art education class rn so excuse me while i go on a little bit of a ramble
I am a firm believer in the fact that anyone can be an artist. If you find joy and purpose in what you make, congrats! You're an artist. I don't care if it's a huge realism painting that could rival the Mona Lisa, a crochet blanket project you made as a gift, a lopsided bowl you made in ceramics, or even a throwaway doodle on a napkin at a restaurant. If you made it, and you found joy in it, it's art in my eyes and you're an artist.
I've had family members try and argue with me that art is some magical talent people are born with and they'd never be able to obtain the level of skill that I'm at. I say "not with that attitude." I believe that with the right tools and access to learning, anyone can learn to create. You can learn to draw, to paint, to knit, or crochet. You can learn ceramics and sculpting. You can learn. It takes a lot of practice and time to become a "master" at it, but that's how any skill works. I didn't pop out of the womb holding a paint brush and pallete and immediately be able to produce fully rendered semi-realistic paintings like I can now. Hell, I couldn't even do that a few years ago! It took most of my life messing around and practicing to get anywhere near as good as I am now. And guess what? I'm still learning and practicing. But we all start somewhere. It's the passion to create and the tools made available to us that allow us to thrive and grow as artists.
Sure, to some extent I know that some people are able to see color in different ways or have a better imagination. But if you don't, that doesn't mean you can't do art. Literally everyone sees the world differently. Some people are more go-with-the-flow thinkers, while some are more analytical. Some people jump right into an art project with no plan, others plan things out down to every single brush stroke. Maybe that means you don't do art as a career, but that doesn't mean you're not an artist. You can be both a lawyer and an artist, a doctor and an artist, a mathematician and an artist, a cashier and an artist. You can be anything and an artist.
Another thing about art is how many options there are. Painting, ceramics, print making, jewelry making, sculpture, photography, digital art, knitting. The list goes on and within those categories, there's more categories! For example, painting can be broken down into so many different types of paint: oil, acrylic, watercolor, gauche, and probably more. But my point is, if one medium doesn't work for you, there's a ton more options to pick from. That's the beauty of art. Let's say you're really struggling with painting realism. Proportions and colors just are lining up the way you want. You can't get the right angle and nothing looks right. Well, before you throw everything down in frustration and quit all art forever... might I suggest photography? Using a camera would allow you to still play with angles and color (or even black and white) while keeping those proportions just the way you want. You could explore different lens types or mess around with film. It's a whole new medium to explore. Or if you want to give painting another shot, there's a way to take photos and make an exact copy of said photo using grid lines on to a canvas to keep those same proportions. And color mixing can be thought of like a science in a way.
Anyways, do you see what I'm getting at?
There's many different ways to approach the teaching of art to make it accessible and fun. So even if you think you can't do it, a good teacher will help you find a way that makes sense.
Art is so versatile and there's literally no wrong answers or any wrong way to do it. It's all subjective. It's all open ended. It's meant to be fun and a way for people to express themselves, connect to others, and communicate without even speaking a word. There's an infinite amount of ways to play with mediums in art. You can start whenever and however you want. With enough time and practice you can make what you want. And if you're hesitant to start on the grounds of thinking you're not an artist I'm here to tell you that you're wrong.
Anyone can be an artist.

i tried this a little earlier, and it’s surprisingly effective, so i’m going to share it in case other people are interested.
thorns of agony is a bad charm and you will not sway me. it is a good set of training wheels for early game, but by end game there are better charms to swap it out for.
however.
the one merit it has is that the damage output of thorns is equal to your nail damage. in the overworld, this is piecemeal and frankly useless; almost everything dies in one to three hits, especially by the time you have the pure nail. but in boss fights, that extra 13/17/21 damage when you’re close enough to the boss can stack. trading a nail hit’s worth of damage with the boss when you get hit is decent, but the soul requirement for healing is still kind of awful.
but not if you have this build:
Tumblr media
[image description: a screenshot of my charms menu. I have on Thorns of Agony, Dream Wielder, Grubsong, Grubberfly's Elegy, Quick Focus, and Shape of Unn. end image description]
behold the tank build. this is... scarily effective. i scampered around in godhome for an hour earlier testing most bosses with this build, and i pretty consistently ended fights with 5+ masks. dream wielder gives you two casts of soul/two heals and a much shorter dream nail wind up, grubsong and elegy in conjunction give you almost a full heal when you take damage, quick focus and shape of unn let you slug away from danger at the speed of light. and all of that in conjunction will net you way more soul than you need to replenish the damage you take from running into bosses face first. i beat like 50% of godhome with thorns damage only, i kid you not. this is extremely effective.
another thing about this build is that sometimes, if you’re close enough, your thorns can double hit. so you’re dealing two nail swings worth of damage and getting almost a full heal from doing so. i also deliberately restricted myself to thorns damage only; if you’re also doing regular nail hits, this build will probably render you near unkillable.
there are some drawbacks to this build. it doesn’t work on bosses that deal double damage by default, so don’t go bringing this into pantheon five or any ascended arenas. grubsong and elegy give soul based on the number of hits, not the amount of damage taken, so you’re trading two masks for one heal. it also doesn’t fully work on bosses that can’t be dream nailed (ie the dream warriors, lost kin, and broken vessel). for those i traded shape of unn for weaversong, and it works about the same. you also have to be fairly strategic about when and how you get hit; you still get soul from getting hit by projectiles or whatnot, but the thorns damage will get wasted. not a concern if you’re just playing casually, but if you’re doing a thorns damage only run (which is very fun, i will say, and not as difficult as you may think) then you have to try to make every hit count.
i didn’t test this out on uumuu because i’ve done minions only runs and they make the oomas Extremely unpredictable, and also shape of unn doesn’t really work in its arena, so that might be an exception to this. not sure, someone else can try it. i also didn’t test it on oblobbles because they’re mostly an aerial boss, but i imagine weaversong might make it work. but besides them and the double damage bosses this works for Everyone. and i mean Everyone. it works for GPZ, it works for sly, it wrecked collector, it works for watcher knights, it would probably work for soul tyrant but it was pretty decent against soul master. i’m simultaneously delighted and flabbergasted by this discovery.
anyway, happy tanking.

As someone who is slowly learning how to do digital art alone, I may have some advices to give to those who want to start and don't have time/resources to spend a lot of time trying and testing out drawing processes.
These are some things that I've found useful but Boi, it got me a lot of time to get to it. Of course, this is just what I think can be a good advice for who is a newbie like me, you can try it as a way to start your coloring process but it's not something professional t.t so take it with a bit of salt
First advice I wanna give is to do like I did during this drawing process: while I keep everything on different layers (skin tone / armor / hair /detail / background), don't just start with one layer and then start another one after rendering the first one.
Multiple times I've noticed how the different tones didn't match to each other, or the colors were simply horrible to see next to each other. I've spent a lot of time fixing this type of issues in my old drawing, always deleting the layers (fully rendered) or trying to change the tone with horrible results.
Instead, if you too happen to have this problem, I'd advice you to first coloring everything with the base color. As you see in the video, as first thing I simply filled the lineart with base colors. It's not clear but I assure you I've changed his skin tone multiple times because it didn't match the armor. Same with the mask and the red details.
This is something you can easily do at the beginning to see if the colors match and are nice to see all together in the bigger picture.
It's really something easy and I'm 100% sure they teach you this literally at the beginning of art school but Boi I'm stupid. I only learn when I do things myself t.t
Change colors as much as you want until you've reached your desired tones. Be careful of saturation levels. To make everything more balanced, play with the hue level for every base color you've used. You don't like how the red is in contrast with the blue? Change the red layer' hue/saturation values a bit and you'll find the perfect type of red you need.
After you are happy with the overall results, start with the rendering.
This is something I recommend to do if you still aren't used to the use of tones/saturation.
If you need some examples of the pieces where I struggled, here you go: this one is probably my fav one even now that I draw from pc.

As you can see there isn't balance in the colors. Fulgrim's skin is too much out of everything and in general there is too much differences between the colors. It just doesn't look harmonious. Then:

I assure you I haven't re-drawn anything here, just fixed the saturation, tones and hue levels (and added a bit more of shadows), yet now everything matches. (i also have changed the color of the lineart in a few places, look at the hair for example).
This might looks obvious to others, but I've spent a lot of time on this piece with the only focus on making those colors look nicely together and with time I've learned from my mistakes.
Another example: the commission I did a few weeks ago. I had to draw an Imperial fist, so you'd expect to see a yellow armor. Considering that I painted the background with red colors, bright yellow would have been quite a shock to see: that's why the base color is not yellow but orange. Same thing the clothes aren't white anymore but a light pink.

On a white background it looks weird for an IF armor, yet this is the result at the end:

Yellow is only for the parts hit by the light, where the shadow are more on the red tones. (don't mind the light blue for now)
Of course, you have to take in consideration many things before changing the hues of the original colors, but I hope this could help c:
