worst idea ever but what if i did an english major after all

#like a double major. not a switched major #it’s only fifteen credits more that’s totally doable (lying) #personal #the english chronicles #i think MAYBE i could pull it off if i took two english courses this summer which ive been considering anyway (original plan was just #physics over the summer). but if i do that it would probably be best for the second one to be online bc i have to be out of the state for #two weeks and it would already be an accelerated course so missing two weeks would obviously be Bad. hm. #i would still be short 9 credits w the way i have my schedule currently mapped out but i could Possibly slide them in w my internship #semesters… but im not sure that i’d want to do that since i Already have 3 credits snuck in alongside each of those and technically i think #that’s the maxmimun amount we’re supposed to have. but also they specified engineering credits so idk if the same rule applies here #also apparently my fifth year only has 10-11 credits slotted so i could def fit some there. altho if i do the combined masters that will #probably change 😖 ugh #CLEP is also for sure an option but i don’t really want to do that like what is really the point if you’re not discussing w peers… #but it is definitely there it could give me as many as 12 credits #idk. things to think abt when i am not procrastinating on chem hw #but it’s also like what’s even the point like an english major alone w JUST english credits is so. empty. like historical and cultural #knowledge i feel are so important even if they’re not required outside of the english classes. but i DEFINITELY would have no room for those #actually wait fuck i totally forgot abt the capstone. mmmmm whatever this is a problem for another day #either way i’ll probably take english courses this summer bc then even if i just keep the minor i won’t have to worry abt them during my #internship semesters

What are your hcs about the Stranger Things characters’ futures? Like concerning their careers, where they wind up living, pets, colleges, or anything else that you want to talk about!

ohhhh i’m torn. i want them to all end up in the same place. i don’t think this is the canon answer but this is what makes me happy:

the party ends up in california for college. they all go to uc santa cruz, cause they didn’t get a chance to do the whole college application thing while saving the world and owens pulled some strings. el and max are roommates. dustin mike and lucas get put in a triple, but if mike starts staying at a certain party member’s single most of the time…..that’s none of their business. max starts as a neuroscience major until she fucking hates it. she’s at the arcade one night and watches someone repair a broken machine and is like, oh shit. that’s kinda cool. she switches to computer science, then to computer engineering bc CS is for nerds. (dustin does CS.) lucas came in as a political science major, but he realized he was way more interested in helping max with her neuroscience homework. he ends up doing a double major in political science and human health sciences. mike majors in communication cause it’s a compromise between getting a business degree like his parents insist and studying something he’s actually interested in (this is the problem. mike has no clue what he wants to study). will is a visual arts major obv. el switches her major about seventeen different times (zoology, religion, international relations, mechanical engineering). she ends up graduating w mike in communication bc its the easiest to apply her various credits to. el and dustin get really into improv. el also does theatre, and mike ends up getting dragged into the tech scene. lucas plays club basketball and gets involved in student govt. he sets up a lot of food and blood drives. the party goes to a board game club, but will goes EVERY week and makes a bunch of great friends. max learns guitar and starts playing at open mics (el is the only one who knows. and lucas, a little later). they all join the college radio station. first its dustin helping a mutual friend fix radio tech, then its will filling in for a mutual friend’s missing cohost, then it’s will and lucas starting an advice show, and el and max starting a show where max makes the tapes and el just talks about whatever she wants, and mike fucking around in the background of all his friends’ shows and shouting out unsolicited comments. when they all move off campus, mike and will, dustin and lucas, and el and max get their own apartments respectively. lumax starts talking abt moving in together and el is like “i love you both but i am not trying to third wheel in my own home.” thus, henderhop house is born. these two were BORN to be roommates. they become such good friends and are so respectful of each others space and are so so communicative! and they both love to cook. henderhop lives together for like, six years post college. listen, they have two cats together. they don’t want to traumatize them with a divorce. mike and will get a dog when they’re older (late 20s, early 30s). they used to catsit for their neighbor, but mike is crazy allergic. it always sounds like he’s going through puberty again. the party ends up in southern california. el becomes an archaeologist and travels a lot. dustin lives in pasadena and works for JPL. max does some work with him, does some contacts for a few different companies. she eventually becomes a professor and spends her off time doing research. lucas becomes a pediatrician. later in life he serves on city council, then turns to non-profit work. will get a job as an illustration intern at a comic house straight out of college and works his way up from there. mike bounces around office jobs, does some time at a publishing house, and goes back to school for a creative writing MFA. he sells some original stuff but he ends up mostly writing comics for IPs with will. they make a name for themselves in the Star Wars EA and actually get invited to a couple comic-con panels. dustin flips his shit.

i do not know if tumblr submitted an ask before i was ready to send it or not but quick summary is just love the idea of having a beiguang collection on ao3 since ship tags on ao3 have been turning into absolute slush piles to browse these last few years, and a moderated collection is a viable solution i've seen around before

the questions i have at the moment are twofold:

1. when the intro says the collection is dedicated to works "featuring" beiguang, does this mean that beiguang can be the only pairing present in the fic, no exceptions, or is this a sliding scale? i suppose the intent is that beiguang are the Main Pairing (i.e. they (as both individuals and a unit) get the most focus and development/the plot hinges on their character actions/relationship development), but what would happen in the rare situation that multiple (presumably mutually exclusive) pairings drive the plot equally? assuming it's executed well and (we'll assume two for now, as this argument probably weakens as the number grows) both pairings are featured throughout the entire story, would that qualify as a legitimate part of the collection under the current rules?

and if other pairings are allowed to be features (in the most basic sense of the word, like "facial features", not synonym for "starring") but not costars (in a sense) in a fic, what is the cutoff point for a fic to no longer be considered A Beiguang Fic, but instead A Fic Which Has A Lot Of Beiguang Who Are Important To The Story But Is Not A Beiguang Fic? i understand this is a pretty finnicky question, but art has a lot of grey area by nature, so i think it's worth at least considering.

and 2. aside from Collecting Beiguang Fics, what is the goal of the collection? like, specifically, is it meant to simply be an archive of fics (in the same sense that ao3 is an archive) where beiguang are the main/a major focal point of the story, regardless of how good, bad, or ugly the content may be at times? or is it meant to be more of a community resource, for lack of a better term, for people looking for beiguang fics meant to end well for them? i don't think there's anything wrong with the latter--esp since the rule abt foreign-language fics requiring a fluent reader to vet them first leads me to believe that fics posted to the collection would be fully read before passing judgement on their belonging and would therefore bring up mental health concerns for those moderators in the face of a fandom as prone to bad actors as genshin--and as your collection, i think you should be free to put as many restrictions as you like on the content it contains.

if it's meant to be an archive, then i have some questions regarding the details of the rules simply because they seem worded vaguely enough that annoying tricksters or whatnot with too much free time on their hands might want to toe that line and just generally be problem-riddled nuisances. but, since i'm not invested enough in beiguang to write for them or search through their slush pile, i don't wanna just be Some Outsider pestering a community member abt this resource they've created and curated for other people with substantial investment in the pairing simply bc i happen to enjoy using their resource myself, if that makes sense.

I'll try to answer without rambling too much, so here goes:

featuring beiguang as currently defined is indeed a sliding scale. This is because I think the fics that features two ships where neither of them are exactly a side-ship (so for instance, a double-date with ganqing or similar), may be included as well. With your example of a fic with two ships in a more plot driven fic, i'd say it would depend on more of a case by case basis and by suggestion/submission? An example would be how there are many childe/zhongli fics where beidou/ningguang are also tagged and present, but as I haven't read many of them and can't exactly judge with the rate I'm currently going through the archive, it would be difficult to say whether or not there's enough beiguang to be added to the archive. For drabble fics and the like, with maybe half of the content predominantly featuring beiguang, if that makes sense? Honestly some of your questions for part 1 are ones that have been bugging me as well, but I think I'll need the thoughts of people who have actually read the fics in question to be actually able to determine if it is a predominantly beiguang fic, or if its just one where they are present, but more in the background.

At the moment the collection is more meant as an archive in general: pretty much the good the bad, the inbetween, with certain fics left out (such as those that came about due to harrassment on twitter featuring the pairing but uh, done so in a malicious manner). It's also meant as a way to be able to quickly find beiguang-centric fics in general, seeing as the current tags are filled with chat fics, fics that tag at the slightest hint of a ship, and etc. The foreign language rule is mainly to prevent similarly malicious fics from making it into the archive, so fingers crossed I can find help on that aspect TuT

Since it's meant as an archive, yeah I agree the rules are somewhat vague at the moment and could therefore be suspect to trolling behaviour. It's why the collection, while open, is also moderated, but by the time I start adding more mods onto the team (hopefully soon because this was... a much larger undertaking then I had anticipated), then I hope it is people that I can trust and love the pairing enough to not want to ruin the experience for other people. As I get further along/more people get added, I'll definitely try to clarify the rules more, so hopefully people will bear with me as its still a growing collection and I am only one person orz

- This is where I justify Rageboo - Anyway he and Technoblade are a Ragebound Derse dreamer Dancestor pair (Ranboo's a Maid, Techno's a Sylph) - There's at least four sessions at play -- the first is DTeam+Badlands maybe and was the creator of the universe w/ the initial L'Manberg session (roughly based around some of the S1 major actors) - And THAT session is scratched to generate the NLM session (roughly based around actors more significant in S2) - (how that division is drawn is... it is still complicated the only ones ik for SURE are that Wilbur Eret and Technoblade r in the former session and Tubbo and Ranboo are in the latter. Have not decided which one Tmmy is in. I wanted him to be in the same one as Tubbo bc he's a Time player to Tubbo's Space but it may not make sense? But it also might?) - The fourth session is another completed one: it's Philza's null session. Philza is a Doom player and he's beaten the session and now is hanging out in the cluster w/ everyone else - DreamXD is a First Guardian - The genetic sequence for DreamXD is written predominantly by Ranboo who does so much more consciously than usual - Especially laid groundwork via the Amnesiac (Ranboo as Techno's ancestor) who kind of went off the rails chasing cherubs which he thought he was somehow fatewise involved with bc he's a mutant red like Techno but he's also. Smth went Extra wrong so half his blood is the requisite candyred and half is the original lime - Ranboo who plays Sburb through related reasons ended up put in The Cherub Box for the first half of his life. It fucks him up - Then he gets to troll society which also fucks him up - So he has a propensity bc of those combined experiences for hiding parts of himself, compartmentalizing, caginess, trusting nobody except himself and not even himself for that matter, privately being Not A Fan of societal expectations in general, trying to look palatable anyway, and also sitting alone in his room. You could say he's. You could say he's Homestu - The Bloodgod (Techno as Ranboo's ancestor) fought Dream (fully realized cherub) and Won. He got the horrorterrors retroactively in the brains of every iteration of him for his troubles - this is what allows Techno who plays Sburb to get the survivors out of the scratched LM1 session into the NLM session after Wilbur scratches the initial session on Nov 16th though so  - Dream is a cherub btw that's kind of relevant to the above - Ranb and Techno r trolls (as mentioned above, they're lime/mutant candyred w/ Ranb having the blood weirdness and Techno bein just str8 red. Them) - Unsure abt jack anything else - To go back 2 Tubbo. So you know how the Space player is traditionally assisted by the Knight in breeding the genesis frog. - Tubbo's classpect is the Knight of Space that man is on his own - Whatever happens in Tubbo's session, Tubbo is basically left functionally to breed the frog on his own - While YOU were FUCKING AROUND going into RETIREMENT and DOING FETCH QUESTS, TUBBO was TRYING TO WIN THE FUCKING GAME - He ends up ghosting Doom. Virgil became a Vampire sometime in the 17/1800s?? Logan is from around the 1500s, and Patton claims he lost count a long time ago.(Patton’s probably at least at least a thousand years old though? But he looks more like a young 25 y/o whose attire choices change day to day but generally always gives off that Parent vibe), Virgil was turned by Patton, Logan was born Vampire, Patton was assumably born vampire. Remus and Roman are 27, Janus is 25.

Virgil was locked away for about 150 years, give or take? He missed the entire shift in society and the human experience, from how relationships are viewed/treated to longer lifespans, to cleaner hygiene, convenience, and technology, hell, even the more open existance of the lgbtqa+ community! A /lot/ has happened in the past 100 years, and now Virgil has alot of catchup to do.(and don’t worry, Patton & Logan help Virgil catch up pretty quickly, they share flashcards and Virgil gets h o o k e d on social media when he gets a phone)

He absolutely does. Its a weird adjustment, what with the now wildly varied different textiles and styles and change. Especially the lack of layers, he misses those. Yes! Infact, Roman and Logan share college/uni theatre classes together! Logans currently an astronomy major, Roman a theatre arts major(i think thats what its called?) Logan is a formidible lyrical rival and Roman finds himself constantly losing to his rival in the form of slam poetry, though every day Roman always gets a little closer to winning(Logan adores the challenge, and the passion Roman has to beat Logan at his own game is riviting to experience. Logan would def consider Roman a perfect companion, but would have never acted on it if virgil hadnt been rescued by said companions twin brother, thus gettig both trios heavily involved w/ each other.) Patton’s been alive so long that he doesn’t care too much for academia, and instead focuses on tactile learning, like pottery and woodworking. Remus himself is an arts major, known for making really hyper horror or grotesque creature sculptures/doll customization, so he kind of just laches onto this man who seems to be larger than life and is far from bothered by Remus’s ‘not safe for common convos’ way of talking and its nice not to have someone run away. within two minutes, you managed to grasp that it’s a story about a never-ending spring between these two lovers

there’s something about the whole setting of it actually that just sucks you in

in some plays, the outfits would seem so forced even in the given context that it reminds you of uh a particular superhero movie

and yes ur aware that stage makeup has to be enhanced so that people all the way to the back row would see

but there’s just something in this scene that’s laid out right-now that actually gets you in awe

it’s of the couple in the back of their pick-up truck and everything about it seems so natural

the background straight up looks like what it’d be if you were to go outside

the guy’s arm around her shoulder seems so natural and in nature that it doesn’t feel like a random cue in the script

the girl twinkles and it doesn’t even feel like a forced type of laugh you’d cue in attempt to warm the audience’s hearts

it’s of a plot where the the guy eventually falls out of love with the girl, while girl gets even more smitten with the guy at the same time

it’s what you take from the past ten minutes that you watch in dead silence, and you don’t even remember in the back of your head that you’re supposed to hate plays

you mumble in disbelief under your breath, head shaking profusely

you’ve got too used to seokjin sitting beside you that you immediately turn to your right, whispering out your concerns

ahh tbh, this was some years ago, and I had pretty BIG culture shock living in Minnesota, so I'm not sure about recommendations for food.. but near the school, everyone loved Shish, the Mediterranean restaurant (until there were unconfirmed rumors that the owner was sexist??). We went to a place called Blue Door (that just closed...) to eat special burgers called juicy lucys!! Those were good. I majored in Japanese and Sociology! I loved allll my Japanese profs. In Sociology, my fave was Eric Larson. I studied abroad in Japan, but I didn't go on Mac's pre-approved programs, I instead applied to another program called KCJS to go to Doshisha U in Kyoto. My best friend did the CET Osaka program. I heard BAD things about the Sofia Uni. one, and less than stellar reviews for Nanzan. We didn't want to go to Tokyo, so we got approved for those other programs (and we both had AMAZING times). If you decide you want to go to Tokyo, try for the Waseda program since it's the most prestigious! (and therefore more accountability for quality!! I heard it's really good.) Tips to live in Minnesota: Be mentally and clothing-prepared for the winters!!! Consider making a close Minnesotan friend you can spend the long Thanksgiving weekend with. As much as possible, travel with a friend if you need to go to Frogtown for any reason. There are lots of amazing Asian restaurants scattered across the Twin Cities, so if you like that, make friends with upperclassmen in the Asian culture-focused student orgs. Visit the Mall of America, Como Zoo and Conservatory!!, the St. Paul Cathedral, the Minneapolis Museum of Art, and the Science Museum. um um, and at Mac: If you're spiritual at all, take advantage of the chapel because it's gorgeous. The First Year Course is serious business because they become your first step into making friends. I took part in a pre-orientation program called Ametrica...there might be other pre-orientation programs...but those can also really set you up with friends before the school year even starts! idk, just I hope you meet and make friends with all sorts of people!!!!💗

also i def will have to research more abt where i want to go specifically !! being indigenous/mexican... but also mistaken for middle eastern/arab i’d prefer not to go to an area that is notoriously racist or smthn T_T like in ecuador there was a weird stigma against venezuelan immigrants and tension w ecuadorians but luckily they seemed to like americans? or rather .... like latine ppl that were american haha 

i’m actually from wisconsin so the weather won’t be too different from where i have lived my whole life thus far!! but i can see how making a minnesotan friend would be beneficial.. esp since plane/bus/train tickets don’t grow on trees !! 

i will definitely make note of all these places and try to visit them all !!! the only one i’ve gone to is mall of america and all i remember is 1. hating the tmnt ride 2. loooooving the spongebob roller coaster 

also i will definitely check out pre-orientation programs !!! tbh i was thinking about applying to the bonners program since i fit a lot of the requirements but the way that people are all like Very accomplished and i have been ... not sm... just kind of discouraged me from applying :/ plus like with me being first gen it’s kind of complicated because they consider first gen any students whose parents didn’t get bachelors degrees....but a lot of prev members of the program seem to be the first in their family while i would be the third in my family to go.... idk :( still kind of unsure abt it but i don’t think i would necessarily need it ? 

ahhhh and if you have read through all this ! just one last question, do you remember any certain campus jobs to stay away from? i qualify for work-study and the money it would save... makes me intrigued abt where to work but also... i don’t know if i would thrive in the dining hall or smthn where there would be a lot of eyes watching me ???
