a headcannon that nobody asked for! overprotective itoshi brothers
if there's one thing that sae and rin can at least get along and agree with, is that no one ever touches their baby sister aka you. like we're talking about no boys breathing within a 1 meter radius from wherever you're standing or they're getting it type of overprotective.
and if anyone tries to cross that border, well, get ready to pray for their sorry asses for even attempting to do such thing.
so when the infamous u20 vs blue lock match was happening, you bet your ass sae and rin (telepathically) were both "concerned" for your being knowing that they'll have to face the most dreading question one could ever ask the two brothers,
"who's that chick that has the same long under lashes like you?"
you were seated at the VIP area where all the rest of the teams families were also staying at. you noticed some had their player's respective jerseys on. you on the other hand, having brothers on both opposing teams, you could only do so much. you only had one balloon from each team in each hand.
hey, it's the thought that counts.
the first half of the match just ended and that means it was time for the half time. there, you took the opportunity to cheer for your two brothers, so they were aware of your presence.
"sae-nii! rin-nii! over here~♡" you wave
even if they were both on the opposite sides of the field, both sae and rin simultaneously looked up to find your voice
and of course that also means that their nosy teammates are also looking at your direction because, what do you mean there was another itoshi that they did not know about?
(both brothers purposely left out the vital information that they did in fact have a little sister because you know..)
"woah! who's that cute chick" otoya was the first to jump on rin. followed by karuso who also said the same thing
"rin, you have a little sister?" isagi joins in the little circle surrounding rin who looked like he was gonna bite somebody's head off.
"she's pretty" chigiri comments, also looking up at you. "long under lashes really run in the family~" bachira says in a singsong voice, waving at you
"everyone shut up!" rin barks, breaking away from the little circle that formed. by little i mean almost the entirety of the blue lock team (yes. including the bench warmers)
"rin-nii~ don't be mean" you yell from above, poking your tongue at him. rin gives you a "not the time' look that he usually gives you at home but to you it was fun to see rin so worked up because you know he's the one that gets verbal when it comes to you
there was a sense of satisfaction when you hear his team laughed and teased rin. choruses of:
"yeah rin-nii chan don't be mean to us~☆"
"just tell us her name, rin! we won't bother you again!"
"if i pass you the ball, would you give me her number?"
on the other side of the field, there was only one person sae has to look out for and that was no other than the man, the myth, the demon himself, shidou ryusei
when your familiar voice rang through sae's ears, you can only imagine what his face was. he clicks his tongue in annoyance and hesitantly looks up at your direction, wary that his teammates would also be looking with him
to his dismay, some were looking with him because who had the guts to call sae like that out in the open?
"she's hot isn't she, under lashes senpai~" he hears shidou tease behind him. sae reacts to this by giving him a good ol' wack on the head.
"that's my sister, you demon" sae spat, internally grimacing that shidou had those kind of thoughts about you. no, not on sae's watch. although, the realization only dawns upon sae that he just openly admitted that he had a sister
shidou somehow lived up to his insect nickname by jumping and zooming around sae in happiness or he says "i'm releasing dophamine~♡". while also screaming about how he now has dibs on you.
"you fucking demon. she's off limits"
sae may be shorter than shidou but damn, can he really threaten someone like it was nothing. shidou lowkey cowers in fear but he doesn't let that get to his head. in fact, he thinks this might be one hell of an opportunity to push the prodigy genius off the edge for once in his life
"if i score a hat trick, i'm getting her number. bet?" shidou proposes in a sing song voice. this agitates sae further. quickly shutting his offer with a simple, "hell no."
"then.. can i get yours instead?"
"if it means you backing away from my sister then i'll consider"

‘Tis I with a review *grabs more tissues*
Sae Itoshi
- CAUSE NAH not the guest bedroom ouch 🥲
- Another big ouch cause not Sae degrading me but not in the fun kinky way 😭😭
- AND YET AGAIN THE KICKER IS THAT DAMN FANCY GUEST BEDROOM BRO THE WAY I GASPED
Aiku Oliver
- Not the leftover college feelings 🤧 those never end well 💀💀
- I love the college friends bit btw I think it really suits Oliver having that one long-time friend that he can be himself around yknow?
- He’s so cold in this but why the heck is it also a turn on 🤨😤🥲
Nagi Seishiro
- I bet watching Nagis face as he plays a challenging game or is losing would be so cute. He’d get this little scrunch between his eyebrows and be unconsciously pouring the entire time and his cheeks would probably look extra squishy too agkjffgkhhg 🥰.
- I lost it when the reader mentioned a diary YOU DONT KEEP DIARIES DUDE SECRETS ARE MEANT TO BE TAKEN TO THE GRAVE I already know how this is gonna go 💀😖
- Knew it I FREAKING KNEW WHY IS NAGI NOSY I COULDVE BEEN HEARTBROKEN BUT STILL BE HAVING GREAT SEX COME ON NOW
I love how you keep the nicknames consistent throughout all your characters and fics. Ariel, Bambi, Miffy, etc. It’s adorable and a great attention to detail. I also love love love how you hint that the feelings aren’t one-sided from the reader. Just the tiny things like bantering with Sae, Oliver being a gentleman and giving you the couch, and Nagi being all cute and just himself while gaming with the reader at the beginning. And ofc the smut was exquisite as always. Nagi’s was my personal favorite smut wise and Oliver’s was my favorite story wise. Sae gets an A in both (irresistible bastard it’s always the freaking red heads I swear). It almost made my forget the angst. Almost 🤧😭💀. Also the fact that none of them stayed until morning like *cries* this is why i could never do anything casual ever. read abt it? heck yeah bring it on. do it in real life? id be a crying mess after the first night 💀💀. ANYWAYS.
I was waiting for class to start when I saw that you had uploaded and I was like heck yeah but then class started so I had to wait until later. How are you btw? How was your day? Uni still the same? Don’t forget to eat something today and drink a bunch of water and get some sleep!! *sends many virtual hugs*

Welcome back !!! <3
Not me chuckling cause this is the nth time i've written angst and atp my bllk masterlist is looking like sebastian's training
But. I have some fluffy hcs coming soon (istg the pace at which I'm going with the angst) ૮₍˶Ó﹏Ò ⑅₎ა
This one is gonna be a long talk but I'm gonna do it anyway
I was thinking abt adding praise for Sae; but he doesn't seem (or rather feel) the type to do that when it is a fwb arrangement. He's very condescending and as far as he concerned, he is done with you when you get off and so does he so nah he's not gonna degrade you in the kinky way, he'll downright be mean; yeah he's an asshole there wasn't much matter in his part cause I'll be covering more of it in the second part. I KNOW. the fancy guest bedroom is where you sleep and he sleeps in his own room and then shamelessly asks you to do his tie the next morning... smh
*sigh* Oliver... where do I even start with this man the way it hit home
Watch me defend this man <;/3
Leftover college feelings never do end well, but YES! *bangs on table* the fact that he can be himself around you + 'we go way back' makes a good reason for him to turn you into fwb. Turn me into a love interest you jackass
He was cold in this one and he is getting slapped next week (I did not stutter. Might make an extra sequel for this one cause... you'll see, no spoilers)
OMG!! YES!! I- *bangs on table and breaks it*
I literally thought of the same thing when I tried to visualize the whole thing with Nagi and how he would be when he games along with the veins on his hands when he holds the consoles and the nerve he had to read someone's diary.
*crying* Nagi giving (y/n) pity fuck, but its good 😭😭
So here's the thing. I can't imagine any of the blue lock characters (or any of the characters I write for) calling someone baby or babe or anything that normal couples call each other in a relationship for some reason? Unless its been mentioned in the manga or the anime (which is like a very rare case) so I come up with names on my own so here's how it went
Sae : Ariel (cause admit it he looks like her)
Miffy : cause my mom made me watch that show and the manga panels with Nagi in it reminded me of it and yeah she loves Nagi cause of it (cause of the 'x' for his mouth) [Even in my tears, your comfort; the opening lines for Nagi's part were taken from the theme song cause we used to sing all the time]
Bambi : Cause I know that he would think you're doe eyed and he has watched bambi and he was upset for two days about bambi's mom
I'm so glad you liked these! (cause c'mon they're adorable)
AND YES! Things weren't one sided. It's always to do with memories and small moments...more of that in True north. I knew that nagi's smut was good cause honestly, i can imagine him having that tiny voice thats raspy and high pitched but mid yk? and there's more of it discussed in the sequel, same goes for Oliver (i'm just hellbent on loving him he's also my screensaver). me crying atp cause i want him to get animated
Oh yeah casual stuff is never fun; I like the thought of affection cause stuff like this can affect a person speaking from experience
i'm actually doing pretty good! started watching a new anime (romantic killer and I feel like riri), finished watching a k drama and i can continue with ghost doctor, been reading and drawing a lot but there have also been downs like the side of my phone case breaking 🥲 and it’s green picked cause it reminded me of Aiku
And it was new too 😭
I had a Gatorade and a protein bar (´-ω-`) ik i don’t eat well but yeah that’s just me. Uni’s going great honestly; working on assignments and presentations and finishing things off little by little. Classes are tiring but I always look forward to learning something new
I hope you’re doing well and having a good day? 🫶🏻
*sending bear virtual hugs* <3

Yumi's Cells Episode 3 Recap - First impressions always count. Yumi and Woong heads out to a homecooked meal restaurant & a frog festival on their first date.
Episode 3 of Yumi’s Cells begins with Yu-mi forcing herself to laugh through Gu-Woong’s awful jokes. Thankfully their coffee is ready and Emotion Cell as livid, with Gu-Woong keeping the conversation flowing by discussing what he’s working on back home. Gu-Woong is a game maker and showed the game about puppies and looks like Yumi is interested.
In Cell Land Hunger strikes. And just in time too given Emotion and the other cells are so tired. Hilariously, Hunger plays the belly pipe which is what causes her stomach to grumble.
Gu-Woong hears this but pretends he doesn’t, tells her it's already dinner time and invites  Yu-Mi to join him at a restaurant of his choice. In fact, she absolutely loves the food there too, downing the dishes. He even let her take the first bite too, he's polite and it seems that Yu-Mi is totally impressed with the food enjoying everything.
This is enough to win over a lot of the cells – except Emotion and Anxious Cell. She keeps her guard up despite Gu-Woong hitting all the right notes. On the otherhand, Anxious Cell is worried about Yu-Mi's blouse getting ruined with the boiling dish that may splatter on her. Before she even took the first bite, Woong is fast enough and gave her a apron. He's a total gentleman. The Cells are impressed that he's considerate, Emotions still dont like him and Anxious does. He has good manners. They both enjoy home-cooked restaurants too which both of them appreciate. Even Fashion Cell likes what he wore its elaborately calculated as a perfect effortless look. Hahaha. Fashion Cell instantly likes him so does the rest of the Cells cept for Emotion.
Well i think first impressions are always the most important. With my second impression of Woong, i love how he ignored the grumble of her stomach to try not to embarrass her he politely solved the situation which is considered a plus point for me.
After the meal, Woong caught Yu-Mi who's about to pay for their meal but Woong stopped her and tells her that she'll pay, while accidentally holding her hand. The Cells started floating on air like they're on cloud 9.
Woong suggests they go to the park and check out the frogs. The date went so well and she's totally not into the frog festival. Though the Cells are having fun and wants to go but not Emotion. Woong pays for the entrance tickets and the ticket lady mentions that they get a discount if they're a couple. Woong says no and Yu-Mi says they are. Woong ended up surprised. The ticketlady gave them headbands to upload on social media and they'll get even more discounts if they take the headband.
While there, one of the workers asks if they’re a couple. While a bit awkward to begin with, Finance kicks in for Yu-Mi and focuses on how much money she can save if she says yes. Well, one thing leads to another and the pair snap a couple photo together, which Yu-Mi decides to put up on social media.
This act attracts the attention of Ru-Bi, who immediately rings Gu-Woong and asks what’s going on. Woong ends their conversation quickly and keeps his focus on Yu-Mi. Nosy Ruby needs to get her thoughts away from Yu-Mi like she's obsessed with who she dates. Woong tells her that Ru-Bi is weird because she talks to him in 3rd-person and Yu-Mi laughed at his comment. She laughed for real this time, finally. Emotion is pissed and wants to go home, Anxious is worried about Ru-Bi. Woong tells her that he can't really lie and says it like he means it. I like him. The Cells does too, he's honest, polite, considerate. All good factors. Emotion Cell is now impressed and decides not to use the robot doll cell.
With the date going so well and Yu-Mi impressed by Woong's compliments she decided to treat him and buy popcorn. Woong tells her that she doesn't have to be grateful when he told her she's cute its because he's honest. The Cells like him too as long as he doesn't do those awkward jokes and they all approve. Hysterius Cell shows up in Cell land and presses the mood lever down, sending Yu-Mi into a depressive downward spiral. Because of this, she suddenly skips out and decides to go home. This is just terrible. The date was doing so and its all Hysteriuis Cell's fault. For once i'm actually mad at a Cell, i don't think i'm going to like him very much.
Things all got very awkward when they both head home. Woong tried to make her laugh with his dad jokes but Yu-Mi wasn't feeling well and head up to the bus. She wants to save herself from heartache like her past relationships. After the date, Woong sees Saeyi heading home and tells her that he likes Yu-Mi. Once he got back, this terrible parting effected Woong too and he's worried that she's not replying to his messages. Meanwhile, in Woong's Cell land a imaginary Yu-Mi has taken over. Like she's all he's thinking about. Woong waits for her texts and looks like he was about to tear up. He immediately heads online to search reasons for her not replying during their first date. With Hysteria still attacking Cell land, Emotion, Fashion and Anxious Cells reach out to Reason Cell. Reason Cells tell them that Hysteria Cell is afraid that Yu-Mi may struggle and will hurt again. They all find a solution and it's Hunger Cell they can rely on. Yu-Mi looses her appetite, lays down and didn't bother replying to Woong. They don't want to think that Woong was rejected by her.
Jumps to conclusions finding reasons as to why she's not replying. Goes on forums to find comments, he thinks about what he has done during their blind date. He believes it’s his beard.  Even asked advice from Louis and he tells Woong that her not replying means he's dumped. On her way to work, she misses her bus and sits down on the bench seeing the candy that Woong gives her on her back. The lights went back on Cells land after she ate the candy. Yu-Mi eventually messages to let him know she’s okay and had fun. Sigh of relief. So it's definitely a misunderstanding on his part because Yu-Mi fell asleep. Woong decided to shave his beard that morning! Sae-Yi is surprised that Woong shaved his beard with the reason being it's a sign of a man's pride but he didn't give a exact reason for him to do so. It just shows that Woong likes her alot.
Yu-Mi messages Woong and tells him to get to work safetly and Woong is happy. Woong messages back and lets her know that he’s shaved his beard. Hilariously, Yu-Mi ended up confused but really didn't care if he did, thinking it's probably one of his jokes.  Even the Cells are confused thinking it's probably slang or something bad. Fashion Cells takes it literally and is impressed once again.
While on the way to work after the bus, Ru-Bi annoys her once again asks about her date. She needs to stop with her nosy attitude. Yu-Mi is stressed and wants to ignore Ru-Bi, so she skipped the elevator and went up the stairs. The office found out about her blind date and her office mates are being nosy. She's stressed about the situation and so are the cells who are wanting for Ru-Bi to shut her mouth. It's a headache and the cells village is about to blow up. The whole day Yu-Mi hasn't eaten and Hunger Cell isn't doing well.
Woong texting Yumi asking her if she has any plans. After Yu-Mi telling him that she doesn't have plans after work. Woong replies back and asks her out on a dinner date. Before she can even reply, a staff who's in a hurry bumped into Yu-Mi, which led Yu-Mi’s phone to break. Urgh. Can the day get any worst? 2nd date please and poor Woong. Yu-Mi is contemplating on pursuing with him and is letting out her feelings to a co-worker. She's afraid to feel hurt, tells her co-worker that her phone broke because it's a sign of the universe for her to not see him anymore.
Woong seeks council from Sae-Yi and Louis, who checks out the text messages and believes that Yu-Mi wanted to end the conversation because of her sentence structures but he didn’t get the hint, making him look clingy and uncomfortable. As the trio about to head out, Woong stays in and tells Sae-Yi that he doesn't condemn to people telling him what to do and that he's slow-witted. That's just the way he is. He knows himself well.
At work, Yu-Mi feels ill she excuses herself to her boss and decides to go home. It's raining outside and she didn't bring an umbrella.  Ru-Bi follows her out of the building and suggests she ring Woong using her number and let him know. After all her pent up frustration, she let it out on Ru-Bi and tells her it's enough. Ru-Bi says that she's just trying to help because she supports them both. Hysteria Cell on the other hand is enjoying this and wants her to release all her negative emotions.
Yu-Mi admitted that she’s always been alone – and will continue to be alone because that's what makes her comfortable. Can someone give Yu-Mi a hug? As they talk, Woong suddenly shows up with an umbrella. Yu-Mi turns and looks at him with amazement. Her knight and shining armor.

@sae-what asked:
Is it okay if I send two requests for your AU yeah August thing? 2 (wings) for Ladrien and 6 (enemies) for Adrienette? (You can do either or both) 💕
yeah i know i said I'd combine the two prompts but it turns out i suck at making my favorite dorks actual enemies :P
anyways here's some ladrien + wings, very much inspired by @tizzymcwizzy, @thechatsmeow, and @justaferal-bastard 's takes on it!!
@auyeahaugust
The noise was deafening. And it was only increased by the sound of the reporters' agitated wings flapping, eager to get even just a morsel of news.
Even if it was at the expense of Adrien's sanity, it seemed.
They screamed, yelled, hollered their questions, volleying them over the police barricade like gut punches he couldn't avoid.
Each question drove his new reality in deeper.
The reality being that his father, Gabriel Agreste, had been Hawkmoth all along. Nathalie, Mayura.
And he, the unwitting son of a supervillain.
"Adrien Agreste, what are you going to do now that your father's been arrested?"
He wanted to spread his wings and escape. But he was rooted to the ground in sheer fear and anxiety.
"Adrien Agreste, your identity as Chat Noir's been exposed to the public, do you have anything to say about that?"
He wanted to scream, to yell at them. Tell them to shut up, tell them that they knew nothing. Tell them the honest, cutting truth—that he had no idea.
Instead, he found his eyes filling with tears.
Adrien raised a shaky arm to his face, and tried to stop the tears.
It didn't work.
"Adrien Agreste, how do you feel knowing your father's been the one terrorizing Paris as Hawkmoth?"
He felt like absolute trash.
When was this going to end?
"Adrien Agreste—"
"Adrien!"
He swivelled around immediately, drawn to Marinette's voice like a moth to a lamp. "Ma— Ladybug," he said faintly, his voice trembling.
Adrien heard the reporters' buzzing rise to a fever pitch when Marinette—or, in this case, Ladybug—pulled him close and wrapped her wings around him. Smiling, he buried his face into the crook of her neck, gladly taking advantage of the newly-formed shield to quickly wipe his tears away.
"Thanks, my Lady," Adrien whispered, his lips ghosting the fabric of her suit.
Marinette's grip on him tightened. Tucking him into herself, she cast a glare he couldn't see at the nosy journalists around them. She watched as they cowered underneath her gaze.
She looked back down at Adrien, her eyes softening when she saw his wings were still trembling.
"It's the least I can do for you, chaton," Marinette answered gently.
She felt his lips pull into a smile against her suit. "Still. Just… thank you."
"Do you want to stay like this?" Marinette cupped the back of his head, tangling her fingers in his silky smooth hair.
Adrien sighed at the gesture, and she felt his wings slump with his body, soft, golden feathers brushing against her own brilliant white. "Yes. Please."
Outside their feathered cocoon, the reporters buzzed. But to the two of them, it felt like there was nothing else that mattered except this.
Marinette pressed a tender kiss to the top of Adrien's head. "Okay. We'll be okay," she mumbled.
Adrien clung to her and those four words like they were lifelines.
send me a lovesquare ship (or lukanette, adrigami, lukagami) + an au yeah august prompt!

3na au for the holidays: sana was buying groceries with nico on a stroller and she bumps with minayeon along with all the children who coo over nico so now the three adults are stuck in an awkward small talk. Minayeon asks if sana is shopping for christmas dinner and wonders where is sana's wife/alpha. Sana forgets that she lied about getting married so she's confused 👀
Happy holidays!
i normally do things in order of when people send them but i figured i would post this before the holidays were over. happy holidays everyone !!!
“Nico-chan are you excited for Christmas?” Sana didn’t get a response, but she didn’t expect one from her baby. Nico was half asleep in her stroller as Sana went through the grocery store. Nico had been a bit fussy earlier so Sana had decided to take her on a walk. Sana also knew she needed to pick up some groceries, so she figured she would get both done at once.
Momo and her both had decided to not go home for Christmas, with Nico still being so young they knew it wasn’t worth it to try and take a trip to Japan. Jihyo had tried to spend Christmas with them, but her family had been insistent on Jihyo going over to their house for a few days for the holidays. Jihyo had promised to come over with Chaeyoung on Sana’s birthday, but Sana understood. She knew Jihyo wanted to be with Nico for her first Christmas, but she also knew how much Jihyo’s family meant to her. She had let her take Nico the night before, but Jihyo had left that morning.
“I bet you are. Mommy got you a pretty dress so we can take lots of pictures of you.” Sana giggled after peaking at Nico. “Miss Minatoaki!” Sana turned when she heard her name getting called. She had run into her students out in public before, and it was always nice to see them. But this time, it was a bit more painful. Because of who the student was.
“Hello, Saki.” Sana smiled at the child. “Where are your parents?” “Over there!” Saki pointed to her parents and sisters. Saya was sitting in the cart while Sae and Sai ran after Saki.
“Hello Sai, Sae. Are you out doing some Christmas shopping?” Sana asked the three, who were all looking at the baby.
“Yeah! Can we say hi to Nico?” Saki asked excitedly.
“Sure go ahead.” The three all giggled and crowded around Nico. Sana took it as a good sign when she didn’t hear Nico whining, she could sometimes be shy.
“I want to say hi to Miss Minatozaki’s baby too!” Sana heard Sai protest. Mina and Nayeon were both shuffling around awkwardly.
“Oh n-no Saya we don’t want to crowd her-” Nayeon tried to say.
“It’s fine. I’m sure she would be happy to see you too Saya.” Sana smiled at the girl. Nayeon looked between the two of them before lifting Saya out of the grocery cart. She set her on the ground, Saya running to where her sisters were. “So…” Nayeon started. The silence was nothing short of awkward, but none of them knew what to say to each other. “Are you shopping for Christmas dinner?” “Oh yes. I’m not going to Japan this year.” Sana knew talking was the only way to fill the awkward silence, and even if she didn't want to say anything to Mina and Nayeon they had to pretend to be friendly, for the kids' sake. “Are you doing the same?” “Oh yes… Yes…” Nayeon trailed off, looking at the group of kids. “Where’s your wife?”
“Huh?” Sana was confused by the question. Wife? She didn’t have a wife. She wasn’t even in a relationship. “My... Wife?” “Your uh wife? Is she not helping you with shopping? That’s pretty shitty of her to leave you with both a baby and all the grocery shopping on Christmas eve-” Nayeon was cut off when Mina elbowed her in the side.
“Sorry about her. She’s too nosy.” Mina sighed.
“No, no it’s okay.” Sana was racking her brain for any reason Mina and Nayeon would think she had a wife. It was then that she remembered she had told them Jihyo was her wife a while ago. “Oh! J-Jihyo’s mother’s health isn’t the best so she’s uh going out to see her. Nico is too young for that long of a car trip so w-we decided to spend Christmas apart.” Sana strung together an excuse. It was terrible at best, but she wanted to say anything to keep her lie intact.
“Ah, okay. That makes sense.” Nayeon nodded, still rubbing her side from where Mina had elbowed her. They were quiet until the kids came back, and Sana said goodbye to them all with a huge smile.
It was as Sana was waving to the kids that Mina and Nayeon realized Sana wasn’t wearing a wedding ring.

Just to let you all know … I will post twice next week on TUESDAY and FRIDAY. THANK YOU all for reading, liking, reblogging and commenting on last week’s chapter.  I really do appreciate you doing so. Thank you too, for your concern for Claire.  Here’s what happens next, so please enjoy this chapter.

  CHAPTER 69
The explosion had been a dreadful incident causing some panic to set in from those gathered in the park, and many people were rushing to leave in case there were more hidden explosives. Despite the pandemonium Claire hurried back to where Karen was still sitting on the bench unaware that the man who had bumped into her had been tailing her the whole time.
When she saw her neighbour jogging back to where she was sitting on the park bench, Karen sat up as she approached, seemingly better than when Claire had left her to rest her ankle.
“Hey what just happened? I heard a loud bang.”
Looking at Karen on the park bench, Claire replied, “Yeah ... a car just exploded in the car park.”
“Oh, my goodness! ... Was anybody hurt?” Karen asked feigning concern but at the same time outwardly noncommittal.
“I think so ... but I’m not certain.”
“That’s too bad. How horrible.”
Shock registered in her voice at such an unforeseen happening. “It was.” However, Claire was a bit more upbeat when she asked, “So … How are you feeling?”
“Much better thanks ... My ankle’s still a little tender ... but it’s okay.” “That’s good.”
“Perhaps we better get going then. This place is going to be swarming with police soon,” Karen added as they heard the loud shrill of police sirens pierce the air. “We could be here for ages especially if the police want to interview witnesses.”
“Good idea ... we might get caught up otherwise.” “Exactly ...” She paused before adding, “Hey! We might bump into Andy on the way home. He did say he would try to meet up with us.” “Perhaps he was held up with the commotion on the other side of the park.” “Yeah ... knowing him he probably went for a stickybeak. He’s such a “Nosey Parker.”
‘You’re obviously made for each other Karen.  He is just like you.” Claire replied satirically thinking that Jamie’s misgivings were accurate.
At that moment she reflected on what she’d just said to Karen Yee and it hit her when the preverbal penny dropped.
She was cross with herself for not picking up on Karen’s personality a lot sooner, but in retrospect she had ignored all those Section One triggers because she wanted to believe that Karen was genuine in her friendship. She really wanted to think the best of people but sometimes her judgement was clouded and in this case hers certainly was.  Perhaps Karen had also pandered to her insecurities that she’d noticed in her, and suspected her as being in need of a friend. Hence, she’d developed a friendship by grooming her to think she was sincere. She wanted to believe in Karen, and hence made excuses which in any other situation, normally would have set off alarm bells.
Jamie, however, had seen through her neighbour’s charade immediately but that was because he was more perceptive than her. Maybe Karen had reacted to Jamie’s more threatening persona.  He had certainly had her on the back foot last night.  Did he unnerve her that much?
All of these reasons now made complete sense.   Section training had skilled her to recognise traits that may be suspicious, but in Karen Yee’s situation these were a slow burn that really had not manifested until Jamie had pointed out his misgivings.  She felt a fool but would continue the charade, but with a little more caution this time.
“Touché Beauchamp … I guess we are.”
Her neighbour laughed remembering what she’d said to Claire about her being nosy as well, but Claire took her meaning differently.  If Karen was suspicious, then so too was her boyfriend Andy Ma.
Slowly getting up from the bench, Karen tested her weight on her sore ankle and hinting that all was fine, they set off together again, but this time at a slow jog. However, this time Claire was more observant of their surroundings.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
As the two women jogged along, they noticed a steady stream of people also making their way to the scene of the explosion in the other direction in the park, obviously for a  voyeuristic look, and curiosity as to what had occurred there. They jogged further away from all the hustle and bustle until it seemed as if they were the only two people around. It was quite isolated now, and winding their way back along the path, they soon came to a small wooden bridge across an ornamental pond.  Since Karen said her ankle was still causing her some grief, they decided to take a brief rest. She sat on the railing staring at the water below, while Claire propped her arms on the barrier too doing a few stretching exercises.
They were alone, and except for the two of them and a drink vendor, the park was deserted.
“We seem to be the only ones here at the moment,” Claire replied looking around canvassing the surroundings but seeing no one.
“I suppose people are curious as to what happened on the other side of the park, or have left and gone home,” Karen said as she glanced around too.
“Probably.”
“I told Andy we’d stop at this bridge on the way home, but I guess he went the other way too,” Karen stated nonchalantly glancing down the path to see if she could see her boyfriend approaching. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Some moments later, Claire saw a few lone joggers pass by out for their morning exercise but Karen’s boyfriend Andy Ma wasn’t one of them. Wistfully staring down into the water she watched as a family of ducks glided under the bridge making the water ripple out as they swam by.
“So, you really think he is the one then?” Claire asked wondering if Karen would elaborate more information about Andy Ma.
“Yes ... yes I do.” “That’s good ... Never be with a man who fails to treat you as you deserve.” “Andy takes such good care of me and he spoils me rotten.” “That’s awesome.” “Thanks. He’s a good man. We have a lot in common.” With her thoughts on one man in particular, Claire answered pensively, “Good men are hard to find.” “Yes, they are. I was so lucky to meet Andy at the club. We hit it off straight away.” ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ While they rested a while, the two women continued their conversation unaware that someone was approaching the bridge. Without warning, the man drew nearer to them as they were talking.  Karen and Claire were soon conscious that they did have company after all when they were distracted by the sound of footsteps on the gravel path.
Karen Yee looked up but her delight soon turned to disappointment when she saw who was approaching them but she quickly masked her reaction of disquiet.  Claire also turned in the direction of the footfalls. Her eyes lit up when she saw Jamie approach casually dressed wearing his signature black and dark glasses. Once he reached where they were standing, he smiled broadly at her seemingly at the “coincidence” of running into her in the park. Leaning towards Claire, he kissed her on the cheek in a friendly greeting.
The touch of Jamie’s soft lips to her cheek felt incredible and her stomach did a little quiver of excitement.  However, because of his dark glasses, she was unable to see the penetrating gleam in his eye as Jamie spoke, but nevertheless his Scottish accent washed over her like the gentle fluttering of butterfly wings.
“Hi Claire.”
“Jamie! Fancy seeing you here? I thought you had gone to Shanghai on business,” she stated smiling brightly and staring intently at his lips. She gave him a secret look then glanced down unable to hold the stare she knew he was giving her.
“What are you doing in the park?”
Despite her friendly banter, to Jamie’s ear, the inflection of her voice indicated that his Sassenach would be waiting for an explanation as to what had happened a short while ago when he had met Fiona Graham.  He thought he’d seen Claire behind a tree, now he was certain.
If only she could see his eyes, Claire would have known that Jamie would explain to her just who the woman was, and why he was meeting her in the park before their rendezvous.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Change of plans Claire. I was to meet the client here but they failed to show up.”
“Oh!”
Jamie didn’t give any more away about why he was in the park this morning but merely replied with a double entendre question of his own, “Sae how are ye?”
Claire saw the wry smile on his mouth and couldn’t help but think of all that had transpired between them last night, but she held her nerves and remained calm despite the butterflies in her stomach at seeing Jamie this morning and replied, “Fine.”
Then breaking from his penetrating scrutiny Claire turned towards her neighbour, “Oh! Karen! You remember Jamie, don’t you?”
He glanced at her jogging partner who had quietly witnessed the exchange between the two people.  Karen gave him a wary glance but her voice was controlled and cordial. “Sure. Nice to meet you again Jamie.”
Sensing some tension between the two of them, and interrupting before any further conversation could take place, Claire asked, “Would you like to join us for juice Jamie?”
Although he answered affably, his eyes did not leave Karen’s face. “Why not?”
“I’ll just be a few moments,” she said leaving James Fraser and Karen Yee alone as she went over to the vendor to get the drinks hoping that when she returned the tension between them would have dissipated.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The two people stood on the bridge not communicating but silently sizing each other up as they watched Claire make her way towards the juice vendor a little way from the bridge. Jamie was well aware of Karen’s unease in his presence although she tried hard to cover it up, it was this fact that intrigued him about her.  Karen apprehensively looked around as if waiting for someone to appear and didn’t immediately look at James Fraser.
Why was she so wary of his presence, and why was she so reticent? If she had nothing to hide, she had nothing to fear about him, but it seemed that she did.
“Do I make ye nervous?” He asked noting her behaviour. That got her attention and Karen looked at him. “No, of course not ... It’s just that you surprised me when you appeared out of nowhere.” What she saw was a man who had a handsome face but with a demeanour that gave her nothing to go on. The dark glasses didn’t allow her to read his eyes either, so it was impossible to see what he was thinking or feeling. However, he did make her nervous. Claire’s friend James Fraser unbalanced her and despite his friendliness towards her ... she just knew this was a dangerous man. Not only that, but her plans may have been thwarted because of his appearance. This may very well change everything. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten ye. What is it about me that scares ye? With bravado, Karen answered his probing question. “I guess … I guess ... You’re a little intimidating ... Which means you’re not very nice.” Jamie’s blank stare was his only answer, but Karen was not to know that, and she rambled on. “You’re handsome too. You probably get everything you want from women.” He elicited a wry smile at her statement. Looking at him, Karen saw her reflection in his glasses which was a little off putting and tried another tact, “So Jamie what ... do you do?” “I’m an art dealer actually ... I buy art for galleries,” he replied reaching into his inside pocket of his jacket and withdrawing a business card. Handing it over to her, she looked at the inscription as Jamie continued. “I’m looking for unique Asian art here in Hong Kong and mainland China which is hardly intimidating or scary ye ken,” he added candidly. Karen fingered the card then placed it in the pocket of her sweat pants. “I heard that Chinese works of art are very popular in the United States. Is that true?” “Aye ... some artists are fetching millions of dollars for their work.” “Oh ...” she replied surprised. Then completely out of the blue, Karen changed the subject yet again. Focusing the attention back onto him and trying to unnerve this menacing man at the same time, boldly asked, “Is Claire your girlfriend?” “No.” “But you love her, don’t you?” “Why would ye say that?” “I don’t know ... just a hunch,” she replied smugly thinking she had achieved a victory by hitting the nail on the head about their relationship because of the way Jamie was being evasive. “So? How long have ye and Claire been jogging together?” Jamie asked ignoring her jibe. “Quite a while.” “Do ye ever jog alone?” “Sometimes ... and sometimes I run into my boyfriend. Lots of people jog in this park Jamie. It’s very popular.” “Aye ... I had noticed.” ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ As they were talking and waiting for Claire to return with refreshments, a man’s voice unexpectedly called out from the path as he ran up to them. “Hey Karen!” Looking up she noticed that Andy had arrived. He looked pleased to see her and smiled. Moving over to where she was standing talking to the stranger on the bridge, he leaned over with his hands resting on his thighs breathing heavily. “Hi babe ... Sorry I’m late. It couldn’t be avoided. Will you forgive me?” “Of course. Where have you been? Claire and I have been here for ages,” she replied trying to cover up her displeasure at his lateness. “There was an incident on the other side of the park. It’s sheer chaos over there. People and police everywhere. I had to take the longer route.” “Oh.” Slyly glancing at the tall, imposing stranger on the bridge Andy placed an arm around Karen to gather her to him, then whispered in her ear in the guise of a kiss. “Who’s the guy?” Jamie keenly watched the exchange between the two. Appearances were not as they seemed and his suspicions about the couple were heightened. The tension in the air was palatable and now that this man had appeared as well, James Fraser’s Section hackles were intensified. Just who was this woman really, and who was the man with her? Karen made the introductions. “Andy ... this is Claire’s friend Jamie.” “Jamie,” he warmly replied extending his hand in greeting. The two men looked at each other. Andy could tell by his handshake that Jamie was an imposing man but he could garner nothing else about him as he was wearing sunglasses. “Andy,” James Fraser replied sizing up Karen Yee’s companion as he was him. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Claire had seen the reticent interaction between Jamie and Andy Ma from the drinks stand and knew that all was not well and as she returned with the juice in her hand, Karen was still making the introductions between the two men. She fleetingly looked at Jamie, then smiled and spoke to Karen’s boyfriend.
“Hi Andy ... so you found us after all.”
“Yeah.” Evidently Jamie had reservations about him as well and she knew by his bearing that he was sizing Andrew Ma up. Whether it was his years of Section One training or not, but James Fraser had an uncanny sixth sense about people whereas she was less analytical and took people more on face value. When she had met Andy at the nightclub, her Section hackles had not been raised except for the name of his band. He had appeared very demonstrative towards Karen and although somewhat shy and reserved, Andy was polite. This was obviously not the case with Jamie as they were quite aloof with each other. Noticing that Claire’s friend was keenly watching them made Karen feel very uncomfortable so she interrupted before more conversation could take place. She also knew that they needed to get out of here before Billy Tan turned up as planned, for they would have to rethink their plans again now that James Fraser had appeared on the scene. She dreaded having to contact their superior Sun Yee Lok, but he would need to be contacted because of their failure to carry out his orders.
“Listen Claire ... Andy and I might get going ... you obviously have things to talk about with Jamie.”
“Please don’t leave on my account,” he interjected, attentive to the way Karen and her boyfriend were behaving. James Fraser studied the interesting interplay between the couple, particularly as his presence had obviously unnerved them. Claire agreed. “You don’t have to go. Stay.” “Yes ... I’ve only just met Andy and I’d like to get to know ye both better.” Jamie added in a friendly manner. He watched as Andy Ma looked at Karen and vice versa weighing up how they could avoid his invitation. Fortunately he gave himself and Karen a way out with his quick reply. “Sorry Claire but I really have to get back for rehearsals with the band; we’re going on tour tomorrow and the boys want to get together for a final rehearsal. I’m already running late.” “Oh ... Okay ... but what about your drink Karen?” “Thanks ... I’ll drink it on the way back home,” she replied taking the offered juice in her hand. “Oh, and Claire ... I forgot to tell you, but I won’t see you for a while. I have a conference in Beijing and will be away for the rest of the week.” “Wow that’s great ... You’ll be back for Jonathan Randall’s party though won’t you?” “I wouldn’t miss it.” The couple began to leave and as they jogged away Karen turned and called out, “Enjoy the rest of your week Claire.” “Thanks.” Following the couple’s departure with his eyes, Jamie observed the obvious tension that was taking place in their conversation as they left and the frustrated way Karen disposed of her drink in the rubbish bin. Regardless if Section had no Intel on Karen Yee yet, she and her partner knew something and he would find out what it was. They were acting too suspiciously. It was all far too coincidental that this Andy Ma had been at the park at the very same time as Claire. The couple had certainly not expected him to turn up at the park when he did.
Had he foiled a kidnapping plot against his Sassenach by the pair?
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Claire came and stood next to Jamie. Turning to her, he removed his glasses and looked her square in the eyes as he ran his hand softly down her back.  He hesitated a little before tightening his hold around her waist.
“Sassenach ... be careful of those two.”
Her eyes reflected her inquisitiveness to his statement, but she turned and quietly watched Karen and Andy leave with his words of warning echoing in her ears. Perhaps she should keep a more open mind about Karen and her boyfriend as this was not the first time that Jamie had aired his suspicions.
“I will Jamie.”
Continuing to watch the couple’s departure, Claire happened to see the man who had bumped into her on the other side of the park jog along the path. She watched as he slowly jogged up to Karen and Andy. They nodded at him as if he was known to them and then they spoke for a short while. The man looked over towards where Claire was standing and waved at her, but he hurriedly continued on his way picking up the pace of his stride when he saw Jamie look his way. James Fraser missed nothing. He too witnessed what had looked like an ordinary friendly exchange between joggers, but his Section mind saw something more. They had clandestinely glanced over to where he and Claire stood then just as quickly had looked away. The three people had exchanged a few, quick but what appeared to be heated words together before they had jogged off down the path out of sight. “Claire.... do you know that person who just passed by Karen and Andy?” “No ... but he looks like the man who bumped into me earlier on the other side of the park.” “Really? What happened?” “Nothing much. He apologised and offered to buy me a drink ... that’s all.”
Jamie was pensive but wary of what she’d just told him. “Hmmm?”
“I know that look James Fraser.  What’s the matter?”
“Oh, nothing Sassenach, really. It’s just, when I saw that man look over towards you, it occurred to me he might be suspicious.” He didn’t wish to alarm her, just urge her to be more aware of those around her, so he repeated his warning once more.
“Be careful Claire.”
“Yes Jamie. I will be more vigilant if I see that person again.”
 ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Thinking nothing more of it, Claire smiled and turned towards him with the juice in her hand asking, “Orange juice? However, although he was piecing two and two together, Jamie was taken in by her infectious smile when she offered the drink and replied. “Aye.” “Voila!” She said handing him a bottle. Unscrewing the top, Jamie placed the bottle to his lips. “Thank ye Sassenach.” Claire watched as if mesmerised by what he was doing, and as he swallowed the orange liquid, she felt a funny feeling inside her stomach.
“You’re welcome.”
It was eerily too quiet all of a sudden.
This was the first time Claire had seen Jamie since last night and if she was completely honest with herself, she was glad that Karen and Andy had gone. Looking around she noticed that there was not a single person in sight. They were alone. She suddenly felt a little nervous but excited too all at the same time. All thoughts of Karen Yee, her boyfriend, the mystery jogger and the woman Jamie had met in the park paled into unimportance. She looked at James Fraser as he lowered the bottle. Their gazes caught and it was as if they were in a world of their own. Claire bit her bottom lip unable to break from his gaze.
Although her mind was in two places at once her heart did a little flip as her thoughts reflected on their growing relationship on this mission and in particular the consequences of their assignation last night.
This mission had certainly brought them closer together and last night had unquestionably proved to her that Jamie did indeed have feelings for her. Her feelings for him were stronger than ever before, but she still had some trepidation about what would happen when they both returned to Section One once the mission was over. Would Jamie pull back or would they be able to make a commitment to each other? She only hoped that they could have a relationship despite obstacles that may lie ahead. Operations and Madeline were obsessed with results and were cognizant to anything that would affect Jamie’s team’s capabilities to achieve success. But if their numbers didn’t alter and 100% containment was achieved, would they be able to sustain their growing feelings for one another in Section? Time would tell. She was totally confident that she could appease any doubts he may have about continuing their relationship.
Jamie could not make love to her so passionately or comprehensively as he did last night and not share the same desires.
Smiling at him, Claire wondered if he could read her mind, but even if he could she didn’t care. She loved him. She was drowning in Jamie’s scrutiny however; there was something more in his gaze this time than she had seen before. His piercing, blue eyes were the window to his soul and she knew he was troubled about something. He was worried about her and this time his concern for her was very tangible. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ to be continued

My Heart is Heavy - an Everlark!Bachelor-ish AU
I’m trash. I haven’t updated my fics in years but after watching The Bachelor last night (major spoilers below if you follow and know what the references are) I couldn’t unsee this little scenario. Sorry in advance. Maybe more to come.
Title comes from the Albert Camus quote: “Yes, be patient with me. My heart is heavy.”
...
My Heart is Heavy
She wasn’t supposed to be here. In what universe was Katniss Everdeen a contestant on The Bachelor?
This universe apparently. A universe where her nosy sister and her college roommate joined forces to submit her application. Prim thought Katniss needed love; Johanna thought Katniss needed to get laid. Regardless, they joined forces and for some reason the producers liked her look and the bio that the two had concocted without her knowledge. When she got the casting call, she figured they’d send her packing. She would do the audition process to appease Prim and get Jo off her back, but she would never get chosen. Somehow, the producers came back to her not a day after her final meeting with an acceptance. They probably figured she could be villain of the season - a surly, scowly girl bound to cause drama without even knowing what she was doing.
She really had no idea what she was doing. She didn’t know then. She didn’t know eight weeks ago when she first stepped out of a limo and stood face-to-face with Peeta Mellark. And she sure as hell doesn’t have a clue what is going on right now.
It is absolutely surreal. She just spent the entire day in Portugal with Peeta. Sweet, adorable Peeta, who took her to an old folks’ dance class where they spun with people who could be their grandparents, who didn’t speak a lick of English but smiled and pointed at them kindly, warmly, as if they were proud of these two random Americans with cameras following their every move. One woman, with curly gray hair that reminded her of Sae back home, danced with Peeta and pointed at Katniss - esposa? Esposa? And Peeta smiled that smile. The one that makes her stomach clench, a touch too shy not to be genuine, and met her eye.
“Maybe,” he told the woman. “If she’ll have me.”
And that’s when her stomach bottomed out.
She paces the floor of the extravagant 5-star hotel they’ve been staying in since they arrived a few days prior. Tonight is the infamous “Fantasy Suites” and on the way in from the airport, the other two contestants left - Glimmer from Alabama and California Cashmere - could not talk about anything other than what they were going to do to Peeta as soon as they got the key from the host, Caesar Flickerman.
I’ve heard great things about that mouth of his.
She takes a breath and continues to pace. Her poor producer has the camera trained on her as he sits on the couch. Pollux is quiet, but so is Katniss. They make a great pair - except for the fact that she’s sure they’re going to be hounding her for additional sound bites later because she and Pollux didn’t tape enough to fill her scenes.
There’s a knock on the door and she stops mid-step. Maybe it’s Caesar. Maybe Peeta decided to dump her before the evening portion of their one-on-one. She shakes her head. Peeta is too much of a gentleman for that. If he was going to send her home now, he would do it himself. Peeta has been nothing but honest this season - something some of the girls have been whining about behind his back. He hasn’t told any of the girls that he has loved them yet, specifically telling them on the very first night that he was going to try not to hurt anyone, try not to lead them on.
“The first time I say I love you on this journey, it’s going to be to my wife,” he had said. “And I’m so excited to figure out who she is.”
She looks up at Pollux and swallows her spit. It’s accumulating in her mouth like a fountain.
“Do you know who that is?”
Pollux shrugs, looking guilty. As a producer, Pollux is typically one step ahead of her at all times. She likes that though. He has been nice about it, sending her nonverbal hints about what is going on since she has never watched a single episode of The Bachelor in its entirety, though Prim gave her an excellent recap of the recent seasons before she left. He definitely knows who it is because he has his camera steady, poised and ready to go.
She walks to the door and swings it open. Her mouth drops.
“You gonna let me in, sweetheart, or you just gonna stand there dumbstruck?” Haymitch says, before pushing passed her.
Cressida, Peeta’s producer, told her that everyone loved Haymitch during her “Hometowns” filming and that the editors are having a field day with all of his one-liners. Prim was sweet and dainty. Jo was brash as usual. Haymitch was...Haymitch. That’s her family. Small, but hers.
And now the whole country’s, apparently.
“What are you doing here?” she demands. “Did you just leave Prim all by herself?”
“She’s a senior in high school, not a toddler,” Haymitch says. He smirks. “I left her a bowl of food next to Buttercup’s.”
Katniss glares and Haymitch collapses on the couch next to Pollux.
“What are you doing here?” she says, crossing her arms. “You flew all the way to Portugal? You’ve never flown anywhere before.”
He shrugs and eyes something in the distance. Before he answers, he stands back up and strides to the mini-fridge, rifling through before pulling out bottle of white liquor.
“I figured it was high time I explored the world’s bounty,” he says, gesturing to the liquor. “Also, when someone hands you a free ticket, you take it, kid.”
She sighs. The producers. Of course. Cressida mentioning Haymitch the other day wasn’t a fluke. It was a warning she never would have caught about them flying him in. But why would they fly him in?
Haymitch strides passed her and presses his index finger into her forehead. “You’re gonna get wrinkles if you keep overthinking everything.”
She swats his hand away and scowls as he takes his seat back on the couch. Then he pats the cushion next to him.
“Get over here, girl.”
She glares at him for a beat before she sighs and does just as he says, taking the seat beside him. They sit, both stiff beside each other, looking straight ahead.
“Go on.”
“Why didn’t you give Peeta your blessing?” she hisses. “He’s so upset.”
Haymitch keeps his eyes focused ahead of him, but taps his fingers against the glass of the bottle in his hand.
“It’s not mine to give,” he says slowly.
They sit in silence as it digests. Peeta asked all the families for permission to propose, something the other girls thought was sweet. Haymitch was the only father figure to say no. Normally, that wouldn’t bother her, because Haymitch is not her father, the tradition is a little archaic even if her father was still in the picture, and Haymitch would be the first person to tell Peeta that the permission isn’t his to give, it’s Katniss’s herself. But the fact that it meant so much to Peeta and Haymitch said no…
“That’s not it,” she says, finally turning to look at him. “Tell me the truth.”
“You’re right. I could have. It wouldn’t have been any skin off my nose to make some dumb line up to tell him.” Haymitch blows out a breath. “Katniss, I didn’t give it to him because I didn’t want to get the poor kid’s hopes up.”
She had a feeling that’s what he was going to say.
He shrugs and continues. “That kid loves you, you know. It’s written all over his face.”
She squeezes her eyes shut. This wasn’t supposed to happen.
“And?”
Haymitch raises his eyebrows. “You need me to tell you everything?”
She covers her eyes with her hands before Haymitch can see the tears pooling in her eyes. It doesn’t matter. It isn’t as if Haymitch is going to pull her in for any sort of affectionate hug like the producers would want him to do. They just sit, side-by-side, while Katniss tries her hardest not to cry.
She knows Pollux is taping her. She knows this is going to be the start of her villain storyline. He told her the other day - when they got drunk at a bar together after Peeta left her hometown and Johanna cheers’d Katniss to ‘definitely getting a rose this week and getting her fantasy’ - that the producers all initially thought Katniss was going to be the villain but they had been pleasantly surprised. He told her that he was sure when the edits were made and the show started airing in January that she was going to be the frontrunner. She was going to be the girl the entire nation rooted for - he was, Cressida was, heck even Caesar Flickerman was rooting for her.
Until now. Now she is sure that the edits are going to make her look like a villain because she is one. And now that is finally going to come out.
“Talk, sweetheart. Just spew.”
She doesn’t remove her hand from her eyes but she does talk.
“This wasn’t supposed to happen,” she murmurs. “I’m so confused, Haymitch.”
He sighs but doesn’t move to comfort her. She wants him to say something to contradict her. But he doesn’t and so she starts saying words she doesn’t want to mean but she knows she does.
“I can’t do this. I never wanted this,” she says. “I don’t know what to do.”
“And that’s fine because you are twenty-three and you have all the time in the world,” he says, in a rare show of wisdom.
“I can’t give him what he wants,” she says. She turns to him. “He wants a wife at the end of this and I...I can’t do it.”
Haymitch puts a hand on her knee. “That’s up to you.”
He knows why she ‘can’t do it’ but he doesn’t say anything for Pollux to catch on camera, to which she will be eternally grateful. It’s not something that she wants the entire world to know.
She hasn’t been totally honest with Peeta during their one-on-ones. He has told her very vulnerable things about his life. He has told her about his lackluster relationship with his father, his borderline abusive relationship with his mother. How his brother Rye is the only family member he really talks to anymore. She told him her father died and mother isn’t in her life right now but that’s all. He took that as enough vulnerability, giving her the rose for the night without pushing her to delve deeper.
She should have told him that seeing her mother turn to drugs after her father died swore her off relationships. She should have told him that she ruined her only solid friendship, her friendship with Gale, because he wanted a relationship and she told him to disappear if he couldn’t get over it. He couldn’t - so when he left for college that was it. She never saw him again.
Instead she told Peeta that when she was little she used to imagine a fairytale ending to her life that looked just like her parents’ - the big white dress, the happy little family, the whole soulmate thing. She just didn’t tell him that it all changed when she was eleven and her world collapsed around her.
No matter what she feels for Peeta - which is something she hasn’t allowed herself to even think about - this isn’t a good start to a relationship. It’s not fair to him when he has been completely honest and she has been manipulating him.
She puts her head in her hands. She was supposed to go home a long time ago. She wasn’t even trying to be the Bachelorette like some of the other girls, who strived to stay long enough to be considered. So why did she stay so long? Other girls have sent themselves home, why didn’t she?
She can’t think about that right now.
“I have to go home,” she says, looking up at Haymitch with puffy eyes and a red face the producers will love. “If I can’t accept his proposal, then I need to go home. He deserves someone better. Someone good like him.”
She has never once cried over a boy. When you close yourself off to the idea of love at eleven, it doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for crushes and first loves that leave you heartbroken, she supposes.
It had to happen sometime apparently.
Pollux shuts the camera off, giving her some dignity. She will have to thank him before she leaves. She probably won’t see him again after she and Haymitch board their flight back to the US. Will they stay tonight? She hopes that as soon as she tells Peeta, they’ll just head straight to the airport. She wants to go home and curl up in her bed and think about how horrible she is for what she has done. Remove all of her social media accounts and pretend like nothing ever happened.
Cashmere and Glimmer both actually love Peeta. Whether or not they love him more than the idea of being the Bachelorette or Insta-famous is yet to be seen, but they can say it. They can say that they love him. They can say yes when he asks to marry them.
She never wanted to get married. Prim and Johanna both promised her that she would be off the show before that was even a question.
Joke’s on them.
“You know you can’t go on Twitter when this airs,” Haymitch says. “Because everyone out there is going to roast your ass.”
She nods.
“I can see it now. You can live a thousand lifetimes and not deserve that boy.”
“Are you going to be one of my internet trolls?” she deadpans.
He smirks and tips his mini-bottle toward her. “Prim already made my Twitter handle.”
She chucks a throw-pillow at his head and Pollux laughs, the first noise he has made since Haymitch arrived.
...
Maybe more to come if anyone wants to see Peeta get heartbroken and then the two coming together.

CHAPTER TWELVE
                                            ~ x JUDGMENT x ~
"I thought you were leading up to something more."
Makoto smirked across the table as she sat back in her chair. "Why, whatever do you mean, Onee-sama?"
Clearly irritated by the formal tone her sister had taken, Sae crossed her legs in the opposite direction to abate the sudden discomfort. "You and Kawakami were kissing on your bed. That painted a very specific picture of the events that would unfold."
"So now you're mad that I didn't meet your expectations? That she didn't push me down and force me into anything? That's nice, Sis."
"Not 'mad'. But that was my hypothesis, and it's… I'll have to adjust my thinking." Then she smirked a little and sat back, unconsciously mirroring her little sister's movements. "I am curious about something else, though."
"Really? Is it the leftover duck? I was a little surprised you didn't ask about that."
"No, no. And I was just thankful that it was delicious." She noticed Makoto's eyebrows shot up at the unexpected praise, but pressed onward. "Why does her teasing about feet get to you so much?"
At that, her little sister looked like her little sister for the first time since she had walked in the door, deflating and scowling toward the corner. "Come on, do we have to talk about that? I swear, I just really liked giving her a massage; she enjoyed it so much! It has nothing to do with me being 'into' feet!"
"Sure it doesn't," she snorted. "Mostly, I'm surprised to be learning all these things about you. It's fascinating."
"Don't be fascinated by things that aren't real," she sighed.
"Maybe not. I suppose you should finish telling me what is real." But while she said as much, she turned the chair to the side and propped her heels up on the table, crossing her legs at the ankle.
And Makoto glanced. She didn't stare at her high heels openly, but her eyes definitely flicked in their direction. Police instinct told Sae that was a red flag that the girl might have a budding fetish, but that didn't necessarily mean she was lying to her; sometimes people weren't ready to admit things to themselves, which meant they were literally incapable of admitting them to someone else.
Or perhaps it was purely due to the teasing - both from her and from Kawakami. Sometimes, that could almost create a fixation against the target's wishes. Or it could have simply been an innocent glance due to the movement and nothing more.
"Y-yeah," she stuttered before clearing her throat. Another red flag. "What's real. I'm not sure you're ready for that, but I'll keep going."
                                            ~ x The Priestess x ~
We finished dinner without anything else happening to interrupt. And the conversation went back to school, and eventually to Ren. I found out that he had known for weeks, and she found out that I already had spoken to him about it a little. Plus, she reassured me very firmly that there was nothing romantic going on between them… despite the many, many visits to his little loft.
Then she helped me with the dishes. I tried to tell her to relax, but she said she couldn't since she was supposed to be my maid - despite the clothing change. It was oddly heartwarming, doing something so mundane and domestic next to her.
"So I guess there's no point trying to change your mind," she sighed as we set the last few in the drying rack.
"Maybe. I still don't really understand all this, but every time I ask myself if I like you… I have to say 'yes'. Even if it's inconvenient."
Sadayo laughed quietly as she picked up the towel to dry off her hands. "That's one word for it. Kind of 'inconvenient' for you to date your teacher."
"Yeah. But how can I let that stop me? Look at you… I mean, you're already so pretty in class, but now? In this dress? It's like you're a pop idol."
Finally, my little comments were starting to flatter her instead of making her distressed. Smiling and biting her lip, she took a few steps away. "What, this old thing?" Then she did a little spin for me, and covered her face when I hooped and hollered. "Stop!"
"Hey, you twirled! If you didn't want me to like it, why did you do that?"
"I don't know!" When she lowered her hands, she was still smiling. "By the way… I don't exactly know how to say it, but you look nice, too. I'm just not used to thinking of girls like that but I should have said it earlier."
"Oh, I don't care about that," I lied. I mean, I did care, but I also didn't… so it was half-lying. I guess.
"But it's important. You're a really beautiful young lady, and I don't want my, uh, straightness to keep you from knowing that."
"Like I'm that much gayer than you! Considering I have never looked at any other women!"
Pacing closer again, she took up my hands and squeezed them gently. "How can I be your first? That seems… I don't know. Unrealistic somehow."
"Well, you kind of tried to touch me somewhere nobody had before," I whispered, and she flinched. "Hey - it's alright. I should have been more clear that I didn't want you to; you just thought I was nervous, like a lot of your other clients probably are."
"They are," she admitted with a hesitant nod. "You sure seemed to enjoy taking my tights off, so I thought I might get to… 'upsell' you into a handjob. Isn't that terrible?"
"Not for most of them. I'm sure a lot of them are happy you're showing interest - and underneath my fear that you would find out my identity, maybe I was, too." In a whisper, I added, "I certainly enjoyed the feeling."
Flushing a little darker shade of red, she whispered back, "And I hated it. But only because it felt like… you know when you're walking up the subway steps, paying too much attention to your phone, and you think there's one more step but then there isn't?"
"Ohhhh. Yeah, I know that feeling - it was like that?"
"Definitely. I, um…" Letting out a deep breath, Sadayo announced, "I've never touched another snatch. What a weird thing I have to say out loud!"
That got me smiling and stepping a little closer. "Me, neither. So at least we both have a first that we can still enjoy together."
"That's true." And her eyes danced with something like hope.
"Anyway, what I meant was that you touching me, letting me take your tights off… flirting at me, giggling, all that stuff. At first it didn't do anything, but after a while, I could feel it…" I paused, gathering my thoughts. My teacher waited. "It drew something to the surface that was already hiding beneath it. I always thought you were beautiful, it was just… I had no reason to think it was anything besides… not quite 'hero worship', that's not it. But similar."
"Am I your senpaaaaaiiiiii?" she called out in a very Becky sing-song. When I rolled my eyes, she laughed and pulled me into a light, gentle hug. "Mmm… oh, Makoto, I'm sorry. This whole thing is my fault; I should have tried to find another part-time job. An educator shouldn't spend her off-hours going down on random guys in a French maid outfit."
"No, she shouldn't," I breathed against her skin, breathing in the light, clean scent. She clearly only used the perfume on her shoes and undergarments; it was so severely muted that I was mostly only enjoying pure Sadayo without obfuscation. "But that's not your fault, and you aren't doing anything wrong. It just… turned out this way because I'm so nosy. It's my fault you ended up servicing me, not yours; I made the call."
"Alright, alright. Maybe we should just quit blaming each other. I just can't believe I didn't see through your disguise!"
Grinning, I began to sway slightly to the piano music that was still playing, even an hour later. "Well, we worked pretty hard on it. My friend and I."
"Your… friend?"
"Yeah. She knew about this, but she didn't know which teacher I meant - and I told her I wouldn't tell."
The taller woman pulled back to blink down at me. "You told a friend? That's… why?"
"Because I'm so confused. Still am a little, but I just needed to talk through some things to figure out what to do."
"Well…" Sighing, she nodded before resting her head atop mine - and it felt so good. Why? I loved it and couldn't even quite put my finger on the reason. "I guess that's not really a big deal. You didn't even tell her who I was. Did you blame Ms. Chouno?"
"She did guess Chouno," I giggled, and she laughed as well. "And you, and Ms. Usami. I just didn't confirm anything at all and she told me she didn't care that I wouldn't tell her. Respected my choice."
"That's a good friend."
"But I trust her. And I did eventually have to tell her everything, because... I needed her help guessing your dress size. I'm sorry, but I promise she won't tell anyone."
"Oh, it's fine. Everybody else and their cousin is finding out, so why should I be mad at you for trusting your friend?" We were both quiet for a minute. Then she began, "This friend…"
"Hmm? You want to know who it is?"
"I do, but it's alright if you don't want to tell me. Cuts both ways, right? That wasn't what I was going to ask." After a brief hesitation, Sadayo went on, "Have you ever… with her?"
"Have I ever what? I'm not s- oh! Oh, no, no way!"
"Sorry, sorry." And she definitely sounded apologetic. More than that, she sounded mortified that she asked at all. "Just curious because, well, this whole thing is new to both of us. I thought maybe you and her…"
Leaning up to gently kiss her cheek, I whispered, "Told you that you're my first. Anything."
"God…" This close, I could actually hear her swallowing, and somehow that was the most exciting thing I had ever heard. "You're driving me crazy…"
"Good. And don't worry, my friend is not going to steal me away from you. I promise. We aren't like that."
After a weak whimper, she finally replied, "Maybe she should… I don't know. Why would you want some oba-san when you can have a girl your own age? Is she not prettier than me or something?"
That made me laugh out loud. "No way! You have no idea, she's practically perfect!" But when she drew back to raise an eyebrow at me, I realized my mistake. My stomach seemed to shoot straight down into the floor. "W-wait, that's not- I didn't mean it how it-"
"No, no, it's totally fine. I know I'm over the hill and shouldn't expect to be able to compete with girls in your class."
"I meant that the reason I like you and not her doesn't have anything to do with her being ugly or whatever! Not that you aren't beautiful, because you are! You're the most… come on, don't be mean to me, I'm new at this!"
Laughing at my expense, she reached up to cup my burning cheek tenderly. "That's kind of the whole problem, isn't it?" The mirth left her expression until she just looked like the exhausted teacher I had come to know over the years. "You have no idea what we're about to go through."
Her telling me that did make me take an extra second to contemplate my response. I already knew what I wanted to say, but I tried to take her feelings into account first. Then I shrugged and kissed her on the chin.
"You're right. I don't know. But I trust you to help me figure it out. I trust you completely."
"That's so dangerous," she warned me as we swayed in the space between the dining room and living room. "You already know my life is a mess, and you think I'm going to do any better of a job with yours? What if I screw this up, and I hurt you somehow? What if I ruin everything?"
One of my shoulders rose and fell as I laid my head on hers again. Letting her lead. "We'll fix it. Or we will figure out that we can't, and deal with that when the time comes."
"Wise little girl. Young woman," she corrected with a quiet laugh. I felt her hand slide down to push into the small of my back, and tried not to think about how badly my legs wanted to turn to jelly. "Too sweet and trusting for your own good. But I promise I'll try my best to take care of you. Really, even if I fail, it won't be because I didn't try."
"Yeah," I said as we slow danced. "And this feeling… I would chase it across the stars."
For a few more seconds, I thought Sadayo would not answer at all. Then she breathed, "So would I." Her fragile, frightened voice just barely loud enough for me to hear it.
"Are you really going to be okay? I keep trying to let you go, and you keep trying to let me go… but we're still here. I could kick you out if it will be easier."
"I… no. I think it's too late for that tonight. Maybe we'll both wake up tomorrow and come to our senses, realise we made a huge mistake. But tonight… oh… Makoto, I really don't think I should be saying these things to my own student. But do you wanna hear them, anyway?"
"Sure. No… let me rephrase. I need to hear them, but will also understand if you can't."
Drawing back to look me dead in the eyes, she swallowed hard - and I saw for the first time that she was crying. But she had kept it out of her voice completely. Maybe that's what being an adult was all about: learning how to cry without crying. Her hands moved up to rest on either side of my neck, holding me steady.
"I think you're strong. And beautiful, and… noble. Nosy." At the last one, I laughed shyly, and she smiled a little wider. "But now I know it's because you just… really need to do the right thing. That's very rare to find. And you're also sweet, and steadfast and a million other things. But more than all that? You make me scared because never in my life have I felt more like losing someone would hurt than I do when I look at you."
The raw emotion in that statement bowled me over, and I had already been floating on a cloud at the rest. Now I felt like I might ascend to a higher plane of existence. "Lose me…?"
"Yeah." As my hands moved up to wipe away her tears, she half-flinched away from them but forced herself to stay put. "I just found you in my life - losing you now… isn't that even worse? When we barely got to…"
"I understand," I breathed as I leaned closer. "It's why I keep coming back for more. Just need you, and I'm scared if I don't take what I can get now, that I'll miss my chance. That's a terrible outcome."
Her head shook from side to side as her lips ghosted over mine. "Terrible… but I still don't understand this." We kissed again, still hesitant but less so. "Don't understand… why me…?"
"Because I'm not an idiot," I whispered back, pursing my lips on her bottom one and tugging gently. That shiver along her spine was real and visible.
"Maybe we both are."
"Maybe… I just can't seem to care."
The next kiss lasted a lot longer, and took us to the wall, then over to the counter. Sadayo's lips were so sweet and inviting, her body warm and soft, that I couldn't imagine ever getting enough - and if her reaction was any indication, mine must not have been so bad, either. We seemed to unconsciously take turns pursuing and being pursued. Oddly enough, even though I hummed a lot and felt my entire body tingling in anticipation, she was the one who more often squeaked in surprise, who took breaks to gasp and mention again how crazy this all was. Wasn't I supposed to be the virgin?
Finally, I had her pinned to the couch as we devoured each other's mouths. We had both felt flashes of tongue but never dared explore that deeper. One particularly loud moan broke us apart to catch our breaths, eyes locked in a blistering gaze of warring intentions.
"This… I really-"
"Holy shit," she finished for both of us, and I laughed a little. "That was incredible! Where have you been all my life?! Wait… wait, don't answer that."
Smirking, I shifted my hips atop hers from side to side. "Why? Don't like to think about where I was when you were my age?"
"Makoto, do you actually want me to keep going or to die of embarrassment?" Still, she bit her lip to weather the heat as I ground against her - a totally subconscious act. "Stop, I don't think I'm… ready for all… that…"
"Neither am I. Honestly, I only know how this is supposed to work from what I've read."
"You read about this?!" she gasped out. "Lesbian sex?"
"No! What?! I mean, mostly in class for sex ed. But then… after all this with you, I started to wonder… how… to do it? And I still can't quite picture it in my head."
My teacher's expression grew even more bashful as she looked away. "You were that serious about me? Before tonight, I mean. That is… I don't really get it, but I can't deny it feels wonderful. Being yours like this."
"You're mine for as long as you want to be," I purred. But it didn't take her long after that to push me back slightly. "What?"
"Listen. I, um… I need a little more time to think about this. Before we go any further, I mean." The shame was etched into every inch of her face, so I had no trouble believing her.
"Okay." My hips came to a stop despite how much I wanted to continue. "Seriously, don't be afraid to tell me to slow down at any time. I know it seems like I'm… only interested in pushing this as far as I can, but I swear that's not what's happening. I'm just really awkward."
Sadayo thought about that for a moment before she snorted. "Yeah right. You're working me so easy! But… I know, it's all new for you. Awkwardness plus inexperience equals… well, a lot of what's happened tonight." With a helpless laugh, she added, "This is insane, I can't believe it feels so natural with a woman! I thought it would disgust me!"
"Me, too! But… at least you've been on actual dates with men before. Maybe that makes it worse for you?"
"Oh, definitely. I keep finding unexpected things and not finding things I expect!" One of her fingers poked the side of my breast and I shivered. "Like these."
"Well, they do tend to be found there on women," I laughed softly, earning a much more full belly-laugh from my teacher.
"And you're so soft and delicate, gentle… which is part of what's throwing me. I'm used to exclusively dating men taller than me who can truly make me feel like a lady. I was kind of shallow about it, if I'm being really honest with you. But a year or so of working this job for Victoria has kind of broken me of that shallowness. Maybe…"
When she had been thoughtfully silent for a few seconds, I kissed her cheek and prompted, "Maybe?"
"Maybe that's part of why I'm not running screaming from this right now. Being required to flirt with and jerk off a bunch of gross guys reset my expectations. A cute girl like you is… a relief? Definitely a step up from any of them, even if I never thought about it before."
"And even if I'm a little younger than would be ideal," I admitted. She did nod her agreement, but also looked apologetic about it. "I get it. And I know there's really nothing I can do about it, but I would if I could."
"Whoa, whoa, wait." She rested a hand on my shoulder. "You don't think I blame you for being in school, do you? I would never-"
"No, no," I assured her quickly.
"Good," she sighed in relief. "This is nobody's 'fault', it's just a really cruel twist of fate. You're an amazing young woman, Makoto, and I wouldn't change a thing."
I must have been smiling even wider than I thought, because Sadayo kissed both of my cheeks tenderly. "Th-thank you."
"What? It's just the truth." Then she rolled her eyes and said, "Besides, if I could magically change one of us, why make you older when I could make me younger? Talk about a waste of a wish; I'd rather add ten years to my life then subtract from yours."
"Nine years," I corrected gently, petting up and down her side. But it made her laugh. "What? Isn't that less bad than ten?"
"Yeah, but I really doubt it's going to make much of a difference to our families." Then her eyes went wide. "Oh God… my parents."
Wincing, I pictured the middle-aged couple that had been yelling at Miss Kawakami in the hospital. I knew they definitely were not her parents, but my brain filled in the mental image with them anyway. "Are they going to think less of you?"
"Definitely. They are good parents, don't get me wrong, but they're pretty traditional. Take your pick! Will they be more mad that I'm gay or that I'm dating a teenager? Honestly, I'm not sure."
"Bisexual," I corrected again. Though I did start to worry that correcting her so much would be annoying. "You still find men attractive, right?"
"They won't care about that. Especially because they think girls liking other girls is 'just a phase' anyway." Her hand caressed over my hair, and I leaned into the touch. "I have to go soon."
My heart squeezed in my chest. "Oh. Yeah, I guess our time's almost up. I should grab your money."
"Thanks. It's… I can use it, sure, but really it's the best protection I have against catching hell for sneaking around with you. If it's part of my job, who can really blame me?"
"Exactly. And it's not forever."
As I extricated myself from her tempting body, she looked vaguely sad. "No… not forever. You're right. Just feels like it."
                                            ~ o ~
Within about five minutes, she was back in her maid outfit and I had her ¥10000 stuffed into her pocket. We lingered by the door. Neither of us seemed to know what to say, but kept trying to communicate something with our eyes to the other person. I know what I was trying to communicate was that I hated to see her go, that all I wanted was for her to stay so we could explore the strange new feelings together. I can only guess what she was trying to tell me.
"Thanks for a wonderful evening," she told me with a smile and a bow. "You really pulled out all the stops. Kind of blew me away."
I bowed back. "My pleasure. I'll… have to save up a little before I can request you again. Sorry."
"Oh… I'm sorry, we can find some time when I'm not working. I don't want to bleed you dry! Maybe…ugh, it'll be riskier but you could come to my place. I live alone."
"Riskier?"
"They'll see you going in and out of my apartment. God… okay, what flimsy excuse will we use? I'm tutoring you? I mean, you're probably the smartest girl in school. But… maybe with me being a female teacher, it could work…"
Eyes dancing with with ill-suppressed glee, I leaned up to deliver another heated kiss to the woman I was suddenly dating. Or something like dating. Then I pulled back, biting my lip as I watched her sway and waiver.
"We'll just have to be very careful. Like a game."
"What a dangerous game. Didn't think a little kid like you could be such a gambler." But at least she was smiling as she bowed low at the waist. "Thank you for your support, Master! Becky really enjoys getting dirty for you!"
I don't exactly know where the flirty line came from. But before I could stop myself, I was muttering, "Seems like you do." It was the reason a deeply blushing Sadayo scrambled for the doorknob and out of my apartment as fast as she possibly could.
                                            To Be Continued…

❝ you’re the really annoying type. know that? ❞ sae-byeok to anyone
Tumblr media
“That’s what everybody told me growing up.” Rory commented with a shrug. Yes, that was exactly what she was told, every... single day. She was too bright, too nosy, too EVERYTHING for EVERYBODY. Too good for Logan, too determined for Dean... the only one she hadn’t been too much for was Jesse, and maybe that’s why she had found her way back to him at the end of the day. “Though, I don’t know what I did to make YOU think I was annoying.”

The enthusiastic, green-wearing brown Delphox stepped up to Yumi with a cheery salute. "Greetings, lassie! Sae, if Ah'm nae mistaken, yoo're familiar wi' th' Weavile thaur, aye?" The girl tapped her chin as she stared at the Heracross. "Many-a pardon foor mah nosiness, but Ah'm jist wonderin', whit will ye dae wi' 'er noo, hm? Any plans faur th'lass?"
Picking out the noticeable words from the vulpine’s thick accent, Yumi pieced together that this delphox was inquiring about Piko. By that point, the heracross had accepted what Piko had done to her.
“Piko betrayed my trust and friendship. She killed someone that had been raising me since I was really young. Someone I looked up to and would follow to the ends of the Earth for.” The heracross sounded conceited and cold as she spoke. “I plan on simply killing her. Nothing more, nothing less. The only uncertainty is when I will kill her.”
A quick huff escaped the heracross as she turned her attention back to the delphox. “I know I seem single minded, but that is what I need to do. No explanation can justify that.”

Appearing before the Dramacourt: Hwarang: Poet Warrior Youth Eps 13-14 (we decided to combine these two eps because yet again there wasn’t much happening in ep 13)
***If this is your first time browsing The Drama Files, please read The Rules section first for our reviewing and rating system***
Issues:
Whether armies are useless when it comes to hungry peasants?
Whether the Hwarang are actually useless?
Whether it pays to be nosy?
Whether the best way to flush someone out is to start killing people?
Whether anything has really happened in this drama so far?
The Rule(s):
Always. Look up anything in history. Peasant Mobs > Armies.
Apparently so. What were you guys doing while Scarface/Peasant Mob was stealing your food and gifts?
It never pays to be nosy. Minding your own business keeps you out of unnecessary trouble.
Not really. There are much better, more effective ways to flush someone out than killing people. Carrots > Sticks.
Again, not really. It’s been 14 episodes and the plot has quite literally CRAWLED. Nothing earth shattering has happened.
Application:
RedRosette J: Guys. Honestly, this drama is really starting to get on my nerves. Whenever I think of Mondays, I now associate it with Hwarang and the annoyance of having to watch it. It’s not cute anymore and it’s just dragging its feet. When you have a very busy schedule, this snail’s pace plot doesn’t help. Episode 13  was especially brutal and slow except for the major plot development as far as I’m concerned being the kiss that we were Ban Ryu-Soo Yeon shippers were all waiting for! Yay! Finally. It was a bit of an awkward kiss, but I love these two so I’ll take an awkward kiss over no kiss. And omg smiling Ban Ryu will be the death of me. Thank you. Other developments in episode 13 was this whole thing to send the Hwarang guys on a road trip with the Pointless Princess and Sun Woo getting more of an inkling of Ji Dwi’s secret.
Jubiemon J: I agree too that Hwarang is beginning to feel like a chore. After I finish an episode, I always wonder whether anything has even happened. I keep asking RedRosette this question as well. Has the plot even moved along? Nothing major comes to mind. Episode 13 at least had that cute kiss.
Girl who’s team are you on???
BOO!
This scene was super cute!
*rolls eyes*
Ye olde road trip
*squeal*
*even more squeals*
OMG that smile!!!
RedRosette J: Episode 14 was even harder to get through. The whole robbery thing and the evil Crown Prince and it was all so meghhh. The only decent thing in episode 14 was we got to see Soo Ho and Ban Ryu bond and it turns out that Soo Ho knows about Soo Yeon’s crush on Ban Ryu. Super cute these two. We also got to see Ban Ryu making the choice to stick with the guys rather than follow through with his dad’s nefarious plan. You Go man! #teamHwarang. There was some other stuff with Han Sung and Dan Sae and a bunch of stuff with the Queen that I just skipped (Ugh!).
Jubiemon J: Episode 14 . . . was cringe-worthy because of that robbery. Hungry peasants vs army . . . hungry peasants win? All of a sudden . . . Hyungsik said not to kill them and then they run off. Later at night, the peasants steal food and Hwarang did nothing? Huh?! What a mess! And now from light-hearted bromance stuff we were promised, we have the heavy political things going on. Aiya.
:)
LOL!
Aww look at you guys bonding!
Please just get over it and be friends already!
When you and your bro about to get told off by gramps…
Not totally cringey…
Issue 1: Whether armies are useless when it comes to hungry peasants
RedRosette J: I would argue yes. Angry peasant mobs are quite effective in achieving results. If anyone has seen any episode of Spongebob, they would know that those angry fish people mobs are super effective achieving results. Similarly, hungry and angry peasants are way more effective than armies. I would think that it would also render an army ineffective against them. That is, a well disciplined one; an army led by a tyrant probably wouldn’t give a shit and would just kill everyone, but one led by a leader with half a brain would be unlikely to kill off all the peasants. Also, if people’s revolutions have taught us anything, its that common folk do have the power to get what they want. The only caveat to this is that is almost always involves some sort of violence. or Twitter. So yea, arguably an army would be useless when confronted by hungry peasants.
Jubiemon J: I think so too. In the end, they outnumber the Hwarang. What bugged me here was that the peasants spontaneously backed away after Ji Dwi was saying that they couldn’t kill them. That made me think that it was pointless for the peasants to have tried to steal food. The next day, Hwarang peeps were saying how all the food was stolen… Okay . . . so you guys were in charge of guarding stuff and you just let them take things . . . ugh…. I mean I know the peasants are starving, but the way they phrased it seemed like Hwarang was totally ignorant of people coming in to steal things in the middle of the night.
Dem peasants tho
Issue 2: Whether the Hwarang are actually useless
RedRosette J: So there’s plot hole that bothers me in this. These guys are supposed to be the smartest bunch of people, yet they are outsmarted by Scarface and his posse of hungry peasants? Really? You expect us to believe that they left a whole carriage of gold and expensive treasures and food unguarded while they were on a road trip to a neighbouring kingdom who may have threatened war on yours. Hmmm. Let’s think about that for a second. Does this make sense? considering that these guys are supposed to be super educated and receiving all this warrior training that they would make such a rookie mistake? I’m sorry but if you really needed to advance the plot in this whole ‘lost everything while on the road’ direction, you could have done it so much better. Have the peasants steal while distracting them or something. This whole scene was iffy and wasn’t working. It made the Hwarang seem useless. If they can’t safeguard a carriage of gold, how are they supposed to safeguard a whole Kingdom?
Jubiemon J: Hwarang doesn’t seem to be very effective because as soon as they all hear that Aro is imprisoned, they start fighting the guards. Okay, Ji Dwi was like no, you cannot use your swords, but you are still fighting? Same thing as provoking some war? Ugh. Really, the evil Prince from the other country was right. They were all fighting for 1 woman that was accidentally imprisoned? Lol . . .
Nice move guys -_-
Issue 3: Whether it pays to be nosy
RedRosette J: No. This is like a basic grade school level concept: MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. Again, they have to go and make Aro a martyr character who makes friends with the “help” and tells stories to the “poor” and is so perfect and nosy that her nosiness gets her in trouble. Ugh. It doesn’t pay to be nosy. Why are you in everyone’s business? I think even if you had to be nosy, you need to think about it carefully before you act on it. Aro’s actions put everyone in jeopardy. There’s a difference between being a nice person and then putting an entire Kingdom at risk. I’m not a fan of Aro and her shortsightedness. *sigh*
Jubiemon J: I feel like Aro is the type of person that thinks she is super smart but in reality she is not. (Pet peeve here.) I mean look at V’s character. He knows he’s not as bright as others and accepts it. Aro, on the other hand, often has a know-it-all vibe. Unfortunately, she doesn’t think deep enough or far enough.
All this means is that you’re a gossip -_-
*rolls eyes*
This is what happens when you don’t mind your own business!
And this happens
Issue 4: Whether the best way to flush someone out is to start killing people
RedRosette J: Not really. Killing people just creates so much unnecessary drama and can cause international incidents. It’s one thing to try to get someone to confess to being the ‘Faceless King’ or whatever, but it’s a whole other story when there’s diplomacy on the line. In this case, the delegation from Silla went to Baekje to avoid going to war and if the psycho Prince of Baekje starts killing off citizens from Silla for a pointless reason, I think that that would be a reason to go to war. But then again, this is when it’s looked at from a modern diplomacy point of view. I guess during Ye Olde Times, a few peasants getting killed probably wouldn’t warrant an “inter-Kingdom” incident. I still think that there are much better ways to try to get the King to show his face rather than killing people. They could have taken Aro hostage (which is essentially what happened anyway. Those poor peasants were collateral damage *shakes head*). Or they could have induced him with some kind of benefit (not that that would happen given Ji Dwi’s character, but still it would be worth a shot). Regardless of the strategy, anything has to be better than killing people. It’s so extra and unnecessary.
Jubiemon J: I guess what the show really wanted to illustrate was how messed up the Prince was? There’s just more drama when you start doing mass threats. It’s kind of funny in a way because he went from . . . Princess, marry me and then after a few mins, he changes to . . let me kill all these peasants. -0-”
The delegation
The psycho
Issue 5: Whether anything has really happened in this drama so far
RedRosette J: Jubiemon and I were talking about this because we’re both so frustrated about how slowly this drama is moving and about how nothing really seems to happen in the episodes. The plot is very very slow and as for the significant developments, I can count on one hand the major things that happened. We’re currently at episode 14 and nothing mind blowing has happened. *sigh* It’s very disappointing considering that there was so much hype around this drama. I also recently found out that there are 20 episodes and not 16 like I had initially thought. OMG. I’m not going to be able to write anything decent on these posts unless the plot picks up in the next episode -_-
Jubiemon J: Yup, I’ve mentioned this before but this drama is just so boring now. I liked the bromance between Do Ji Han and Choi Minho, but now that there’s so much heavy political tension . . . *yawn*. I also think Aro and Sunwoo’s romance hasn’t even been fully developed or nothing interesting or cute has happened between them. Sigh. Can’t we keep it lighthearted for once? Skip the politics.
Our expressions are worse than this every time an episode starts
RedRosette J Aside: The only other characters apart from Soo Ho and Ban Ryu that I like are Dan Sae and the Old Helper dude. Hands up for awkward friendships!
Conclusion: Appeal Dismissed.
Rating: 2 =  Yell At The Writer (Please write something, anything to make the plot move faster!!)
File No: Hwarang: Poet-Warrior-YOUTH-EPS-13-AND-14 Appearing before the Dramacourt: Hwarang: Poet Warrior Youth Eps 13-14 (we decided to combine these two eps because yet again there wasn’t much happening in ep 13)
