If we're talking about little OCs we've made based on your Fae!AU, then I have a few cuties owo
First one is an old lady by the name of Beryl who runs an ancient arts and crafts store that's been there about as long as the rest of the town. Everyone thinks she's human, but she seems to have a weird sense for fae and cryptids. I imagine Soap would hang around the store a fair bit - what better place to scope out potential artist and writer prey than an art store?
She's a very kind old lady, but she's not stupid, she's been around a long time and knows how to navigate fae and other magical beings. So long as Soap doesn't bother the staff or customers she's okay with him hanging around, but she can and will chase him out armed with a broom like someone shooing off a stray cat if he (or any of the other fae) break the rules. She obviously doesn't share her name, so everyone just knows her as "the old hen" because she frets over her younger customers like a broody mother hen.
There is one person working in the store, a fae all the way from Australia who wanted to explore the world and is exchanging labor for a place to stay while in the country. She's a Mimi (an Australian fae, said to have taught the Aboriginal people of Arnhem Land how to create cave paintings (among other things)) so she's very interested in creating paintings of people and animals.
Her human form is very thin and pale, unnaturally so. She isn't very dangerous herself, being more of a mischievous spirit, but she does have a pet burrunjor that she can summon on command, so it would be best not to mess with her.
Mimi is very interested in Soap since, y'know, she's an artist, but the last time she mentioned it she received a bop on the head with a rolled up newspaper by Beryl because, "no, we do not like the nasty fae man who will eat your soul!"
Sorry if this is a bit much, I just think it's such a fun AU 🦖
Beryl is right to bonk Mimi. We don't chase leanan sidhe, they do not care about their artists the way their artists care about them. Bonk Bonk Bonk
Love is a regular, always showing up for more journal supplies, she makes loud gagging noises every time she sees Soap trying to charm another artist. Gotta remind him that he's just some guy. They bicker like children until one of them threatens to call Ghost and then they shut up real quick.

Australia's Cryptids The Monks Are Keeping You Safe From
Down-under, there have been as many paranormal events as anywhere else. Over the years many strange things have happened there. Ned Kelly himself once spoke of strange creatures in the bush. There have also been multiple UFO sightings.
The trust territories are patrolled by the RAF, whose reports are entirely credible. A famous cryptid of the region is the yowie. Like bigfoot, it is a large hairy hominid. Kadnook is especially notorious.
A hunded or so sightings of strange lights and weird beasts have come out of there. Bunyips are one of the ones to really look out for. Of its favourite habitats is the swamp. Usually it is described as a large black seal-like animal. The Aboriginal mythology however refers more to a devil or evil spirit.
Macfarlane's interpretation of the beast is most well known, but one should refer to the Aboriginal mythology on this matter. Overall, it is universally regarded as an aquatic creature. Nowadays, the foremost cryptid of Australia is the Australian Tiger. Knowing this species is extinct makes sightings of it alive in the modern era a cryptid by the true definition of cryptozoology. Still many scientists refuse to act upon Australian Tiger sightings, so this species may be doomed to true extinction if it really is out there.
I for one believe it is. The drop-bear should not be considered a cryptid.
It is actually a joke played on tourists. So if an Australian warns you about drop-bears, remember they're just referring to the harmless koala.
Most UFO stories and cryptid sightings can be written off as drunken tales. Eureka Stockade might be a good place to search for blue box sightings. Many historical events such as this tend to attract it. Otherwise the mythology of Australia is quite unique. Read all about it. You wont regret it.
Considering how wonderful the monks are and how well they protect us, you can rest assured you will be safe exploring the outback. Really, it would be highly unlikely that an alien creature would bring you harm. I am sure any threats to human life have been dealt with by them. Melbourne's many statues of the monks are a testament to this. Everyone enjoys a life of freedom thanks to the monks.
Whether you believe in UFOs and cryptids or not, sometimes strange things do happen. It is good to ask questions, as only then can the monks guide us. Little by little, we will learn. Learn the monk's truth.
Kilwa Sultanate coins have been found in Australia. It is interesting that they should appear there as they have come all the way from East Africa. Lake Mungo, a possible home of the bunyip, is where the oldest human remains in Australia were excavated. Like, totally rad!
Unknown lights in the sky are much more interesting than cryptids, however.
Well, some reports anyway. Entirely too many of them are made up.
Koalas may be the true identity of the drop bear, but what about Burrunjor? Now unreported for 40 years, it is believed to be extinct even by cryptid standards. Often called “old three toes”, this reptilian cryptid is thoughts to be a survivor of the Cretaceous period. Will more dinosaurs show up in Australia?
The outback vampire, yara-ma-yha-who, is a sort of red goblin. He has a large head and no teeth. Even without teeth, it manages to drain its victim's blood due to vampirit suckers on its fingers. You better hope you never meet this red frog-man!
All rivers have their monsters. Really, it's not just Loch Ness! Even Hawkesbury has its lake monster.
Lake Hawkesbury is home to a plesiosaur-like monster. It was discovered in the 1800s. And it was referred to as the Moolyewonk. Ready to visit Australia yet? So many mysterious creatures to see!

Meeting the Quidditch Players - The Wolf's Tail
With the inaugural International School's Quidditch Cup taking place in the Marauder's Fifth year of The Wolf's Tail , 63 foreign teen Quidditch players and their coaches have descended on Hogwarts and, although every player won't be named in the fic (that's a lot to fit in) each player for every team has been created in my notes. Some of their names are a mixture of canon names and/ or names with mythological/ historical/ cultural or flight related links ... and as there won't be room to go into them in the fic, I thought I would post some of the extra details here. First up, the English speaking schools:
Hogwarts
Gwenog Jones (beater) - the youngest player on the team is the canonical captain of the Holyhead Harpies in Harry's time. A great heroine of Ginny's, Hermione meets her at the slug club and is unimpressed.
Sidhe Moran (chaser) - A member of the 1994 World Cup Irish winning team. Sidhe (roughly pronounced like "five" but starting with an s) is an Irish name which comes from the name for the fairy people who live under the hills.
Ilvermorny
Memengwaa Campbell (seeker) - A First Nations Canadian witch (with a Scottish great great great grandfather), she is from the Ojibwe tribe and her name means "butterfly".
Bertram Aubrey (chaser) - A character canonically famous for having an illegal hex performed on him by one James Potter. Bertram ended up in the Hospital Wing with his head twice the regular size, James ended up in detention.
Diego Di Marco (chaser) - A Mexican wizard and a love interest for Lily, he is named after Don Juan for his last name and has been given a Spanish version of Casanova's first name as his given name. Cassanova's name was Giancomo, which is Italian for ... James
Beau Rogers and Jesse Bonney (beaters) - take their name from assorted famous cowboys/ outlaws notably Will Rogers, Jesse James and William Bonney (Billy the Kid)
Mister Wright (coach) - Named after the Wright brothers.
Yeperenye School of Sorcery
Harold Holt-Bishop (keeper) - The vanishing keeper, named after two Australians who famously vanished. Harold Holt was the 17th Australian Prime Minister who disappeared in 1967 and was never found, and Harold Bishop - a character in long running Aussie soap "Neighbours" - who was lost at sea in 1991 but who was found safe and well (if suffering from amnesia) in 1996. Harold left Ramsey Street for the final time (perhaps) in late 2023.
Ned Barrett (beater) - Takes his name from famous Australian outlaw, Ned Kelly
Basil Burrunjor (chaser) - A Burrunjor is a mythological giant lizard. The first European witch in Australia - and founder of Yeperenye - Joanna Jamieson, fashioned herself a new wand from wattlewood and the heartstring of a burrunjor upon her release from prison (she had been transported for the crime of fraud, after she vanished her neighbour's cow and the authorities refused to recognise she was a witch).
Alinta Gunidjaa (seeker) - Alinta is an Aboriginal Australian and thus has come to Yeperenye via the "Aboriginal Controversy" following the muggle policy of separating native children from their parents. Aboriginal Australians did not traditionally have last names and so were assigned them by the white authorities. Wizarding assigned last names are based off native Australian flora and fauna. A Gunidjaa is a black faced cuckoo shrike, but cruelly is also an Aboriginal word for "motherless child" or "orphan" - the irony being Alinta is not an orphan, she has been stolen from her parents.
Madam Larrikin (coach) - like Alinta she is named after a native bird and so is probably an Aboriginal Australian who came to Yeperenye after ending up in a muggle home. Larrikin can also be used as a pejorative name "you cheeky Larrikin" - which along with Alinta's name - suggests there is a certain amount of racism involved in the bestowing of last names on Aboriginal wizards.
This post is getting quite long, so I'll return tomorrow with another post for the other schools (Durmstrang might need a post all to themselves).

Yowie

Cryptid of the Day: Burrunjor (Longer)
Description: The Aboriginal people of Victoria, Australia told stories of a monster called the Murra-Murri, which cryptozoologists claim is one in the same with the T. Rex like cryptid known as the Burrunjor. It is unknown when sightings of the monster began, though the creature gained international attention when it was featured on the popular cryptid hunting TV show, Destination Truth. According to the show, truckers have seen the monster on isolated stretches of highway in the Outback.

The Burrunjor is said to be a surviving dinosaur that closely resembles a T-Rex. Stories go that this creature thrives in the Australian Outback where it preys on cattle and kangaroos. Previously found 3-toed footprints have measured up to an incredible 3 feet in diameter. However, in recent years, Burrunjor sightings and cattle mutilations thought to be related have dwindled in number. Some researchers believe that the perentie (Australia’s largest lizard) is behind the Burrunjor sightings. Though not as big as a T-Rex, perenties can grow to almost 9 feet in length.
