[TRANS] IU ‘CHAT-SHIRE’ Album Introduction and Song Introductions
Tumblr media
ALBUM INTRODUCTION
A bunch of twenty-threes, IU's current state which is full of trivial things. Also, your current state.
IU's 4th mini album ‘CHAT-SHIRE’ is out!
IU's fourth mini album ‘CHAT-SHIRE’, which everyone has been waiting for, has finally been released.
IU, who showed her growth as a musician with her detailed and unique emotions through her previous albums and her self-composed songs, expanded her involvement to take part in the production of this album, making her voice heard throughout the whole album.
This album ‘CHAT-SHIRE’ contains a total of 7 songs and from the perspective of characters from different novels, she expresses the experiences and observations of 23-year-old IU, as well as her thoughts and feelings about people around her. The album name ‘CHAT-SHIRE’ refers to a small society where the character of each song lives in their own area and one can finish walking through the whole place in 23 steps.
[Note: A ‘shire’ is a county or something like a town for different characters. See Chat-shire map teaser image. IU also said she meant for the lyrics to be idle talk (chat) and not be taken too seriously. See news article on album showcase.]
Through ‘CHAT-SHIRE’, which features IU's current state, you will think about yourself in your future, present and past. While the stories are based on IU's own experiences and thoughts, these are things that can happen to all of us and that we may think about too. Hopefully, with your image of yourself in mind, you can share and communicate with us through ‘CHAT-SHIRE’.
SONG INTRODUCTIONS
01. 새 신발 (Shoes)
Lyrics by IU
Composed by Lee Jong-hoon
Arranged by Lee Jong-hoon
“I took off my old shoes and slid my feet into silver shoes. They fit just right as if they are my shoes.”
A track that serves as a guide to facilitate a tour of CHAT-SHIRE. While greeting fans who have been waiting a long time for this album with the most familiar-sounding strings and voice typical of IU, this is the busy start of a new date. This song is a medium-tempo song with a vintage sound of the 'Motown' style of the 70s.
02. Zezé
Lyrics by IU
Composed by Lee Jong-hoon, Lee Chae-gyu
Arranged by Lee Jong-hoon
“The tree speaks with its whole body. It speaks with its leaves, its branches and its roots too. Do you want to hear what it’s saying? Then put your ears to my body. You will be able to hear my heart beating.”
This is a kind of love song that is sung while waiting for someone who is charming, but difficult, puts you at a loss, yet lovely. It is a song that stands out with the hip-hop sound of Lo-Fi beats that have not been experimented with in IU songs thus far..
03. 스물셋 (Twenty-three) (TITLE)
Lyrics by IU
Composed by IU, Lee Jong-hoon, Lee Chae-gyu
Arranged by Lee Jong-hoon, Lee Chae-gyu
“‘Can you tell me which way to go from here?’
‘It depends where you want to go,’ said the cat.”
This song is based on the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. ‘Cheshire’, which is also related to the name of the album, is the most important keyword in the album. There are many different ways to look at something, none of which are wrong. Whatever you choose is the answer and it just depends on what you want to believe. This song has a funky beat and disco-like sound, which blend with the light, fun and confusing lyrics, giving the impression of feeling exasperated.
04. 푸르던 (The shower)
Lyrics by IU
Composed by IU
Arranged by Kim Je-hwi
“It was really fun that day... But I have no idea where all this water came from that day.”
The day when my papery heart was soaked with water, my vision narrowed and in one breath, I fell in love with the season I never liked. Is it just good or is it just sad to remember what used to be beautiful? This is an acoustic song that makes you imagine a summer night full of memories of your first love.
05. Red Queen (Feat. Zion.T)
Lyrics by IU
Composed by Lee Jong-hoon, Lee Chae-gyu
Arranged by Lee Jong-hoon, Lee Chae-gyu
“‘She did look as ugly as you. She was redder than you, and with shorter petals,‘ said the rose. ‘She’s the type with lots of thorns.’”
Don’t we all have the experience of a strange feeling when we see the person being attacked by everyone make a smile without worry? This is a song that asks questions about the preconceived notions of everyone who thinks that it is uncomfortable to discover a good side to a villain who deserves to be attacked. The main character of the song, ‘that woman’, can be the first person who comes to your mind as you listen to the song, or it can also be you. Who is the worst between the woman in the story, the speaker and the listener? This is an uptempo track with retro feels that mixes two completely different genres, including the rhythm and sound of bubblegum pop in the ‘60s and chord progression of bossa nova in the middle of the song.
06. 무릎 (Knees)
Lyrics by IU
Composed by IU
Arranged by Lee Jong-hoon
”She patted my head with a touch as light as air.
‘It's always hard to be born. You know that, right? They say a bird must struggle to get out of its shell.’”
This is a song that started out with the idea that doubt keeps a person from falling asleep. ‘Doubt’ can be someone's doubt about me, my doubt about myself, my doubt about the rest of the world, or maybe a doubt about a day that just flew by that makes one feel uncomfortable (Note: because the day flew by without one accomplishing much). Everyone will have a childhood experience of sleeping so deeply in a dreamless slumber, not knowing that they were being moved somewhere in the large hands of an adult. This song is sung in a soft voice with a piano melody accompaniment, on a night that suddenly feels sad because as we grow older and older, we lose sleep even because of a small sound and become more and more wary (Note: of things or people) around us.
07. 안경 (Glasses)
Lyrics by IU
Composed by IU
Arranged by Kim Je-hwi
'“‘Everyone calls you a fool.’ ’Never mind. It's nothing to worry about.’”
This album is made up of question marks. IU's age of 23 is so full of trivial details and confusing that she can't be sure of anything or draw any conclusions. Nevertheless, this song was included as the last track because of the need for a full stop. A conviction not to wear glasses does not necessarily signify innocence. Living day by day with enough freedom and humor to hum a song, while losing sometimes and returning an attack sometimes. For now, that's the image of an adult that 23-year-old IU has the least aversion towards. This is a song with a guitar accompaniment that sounds lethargic, the use of a bandoneon (Note: a kind of concertina musical instrument) and rather bizarre backing vocals that are interesting.
08. 마음 (Heart)
Lyrics by IU
Composed by IU, Kim Je-hwi
Produced by IU, Kim Je-hwi
Something fragile, yet silently shining.
09. Twenty three (Bonus Track)
Lyrics by IU
Composed by PJ, Lee Jong-hoon
Translated by IUteamstarcandy

LOCATION: wonderland FOR: @misscheshirecat
Mason was doing... okay. He would be lying if he said he wasn't still struggling, but he hadn't had a sip of alcohol since the day he decided to stop drinking. It had taken a lot of self-discipline, and he'd had a lot of almosts. He was slowly starting to piece his life back together, from all the ways he'd let it fall apart over the last... few years now. One of those things meant sleeping in his bedroom again. It was kind of sad, maybe downright pathetic, but since Cat had left, he'd pretty much steered clear of the room, opting to pass out on the couch if he made it home from the office. It was easier than lying in their empty bed. He didn't realize how many things she'd left there, and it only seemed fair to return them now, and maybe it would help him move on once and for all. While they seemed to be on slightly better terms, he hoped that if she wasn't working, he could leave the items with a coworker; it would probably be easiest on her if he didn't interrupt yet another shift. Box tucked under his arm, he hadn't expected to find her sitting on the other side of the bar. "Catherine?" He cleared his throat to draw attention to himself. "I brought some things. Is this a bad time?"

LOCATION: pour unfortunate souls FOR: @misscheshirecat
Maybe she was feeling a little reckless lately. Honestly, Veronica was always feeling reckless, but there were different degrees, and the last few days she found herself keeping an eye out for any trouble she could get herself into. That was how she found herself still at work after a short shift, ordering drinks despite already being buzzed from what she sipped throughout work. Looking over to see Cat standing nearby, she couldn't help but admire her beauty. She looked slightly familiar, like maybe she'd seen her out somewhere, but she was the kind of woman that she figured was out of her league. Thank goodness for liquid courage. "Assuming you're not here with someone who will be offended, may I buy you a drink?"

More Reading Thoughts: Three Is Company
Frodo calling it “Our Birthday” is making me feel things. Oh would you look at the time, it’s Crying About Bilbo and Frodo O’Clock again TT~TT
It’s honestly such a mood that Frodo says to himself “I’m following Bilbo!” so he doesn’t have to think about “I’m carrying a thing of great evil into danger and unseen ends”. Me too, Frodo. Me too.
“And see that Sam Gamgee does not talk. If he does, I really shall turn him into a toad.” 🤣
“Bilbo went to find a treasure, there and back again; but I go to lose one, and not return, as far as I can see.” OH WOULD YOU LOOK AT THE TIME—
Also “and not to return” is so heartbreaking, especially knowing that by the time he gets to Mordor Frodo is fully expecting to die at the end of his journey TT^TT
“It may be your task to find the Cracks of Doom.” JUST DROP THAT FORESHADOWING RIGHT THERE LIKE IT’S NOTHING, HUH, TOLKIEN??
Also teehee crack
Yes I am a twelve year old boy on the inside, moving on
The local shade towards the Sackville-Bagginses is HYSTERICAL
“Ah yes Merry is looking out for a house for me in Buckland.” INSTANCE #2 OF MERRY BEING ORGANIZATIONALLY GOATED
I’m honestly very impressed by how neatly Tolkien crafted Frodo’s backstory and interwove it into the story. The idea that he’s going back to Buckland where he grew up really does seem credible! None of the hobbits would suspect a thing! I almost have to wonder which came first in Tolkien’s mind, Frodo’s backstory or the fact that he’d need a good excuse to go East. It’s so well-crafted and it makes my writer brain happy.
F in the chat for Folco Boffin; we know your name and nothing else about you
Frodo draining the last of the wine like “lol at least the Sackville-Bagginses won’t get THIS!” is very funny to me
I have said it before, I’ll say it again, Frodo looking in the mirror and going “geez I’ve gotten fat” will NEVER NOT BE FUNNY
“Frodo did not offer [Lobelia] any tea.” I hereby name you Frodo Sassville-Baggins.
Aww, the Gaffer agreed to Sam going to Crickhollow to work for Frodo!
If only he knew just how far he was really going
“…though it did not console him for the prospect of having Lobelia as a neighbour.” o7 for the Gaffer, everybody
And they had tea by themselves and left the dishes for Lobelia 🤣 FRODO SASSVILLE-BAGGINS
“‘Coming, sir!’ came the answer from far within, followed soon by Sam himself, wiping his mouth. He had been saying farewell to the beer-barrel in the cellar.” LOL
Also I can’t blame him, knowing what he’s walking into
“He waved his hand, then turned and (following Bilbo, if he had known it) hurried after Peregrin down the garden-path.” OH WOULD YOU LOOK AT THE—
Frodo, whining: "My bag is so heavy" Sam, lying: "I could carry more, sir!" Pippin: "Oh no you don't, let him suffer"
Honestly the dynamic of this trio is super underrated LOL
I'm honestly not sure whether "well, we all like walking in the dark" is meant to be sarcastic or genuine—the way it's repeated later on makes me think it's genuine, but I can't be sure—so just to be safe I'm bringing the Frodo Sassville-Baggins score up to 2.5
I'm taking the time to read the walking bits slowly now, and honestly, the way Tolkien describes the countryside of the Shire is so beautiful. I want to go there, and I want to walk there, and I want to see what the hobbits are seeing. Every little piece of nature and topography elicits an emotion; from the enclosed safety of Hobbiton, cradled in its cozy little valley, to the great fir tree standing guard over the hobbits as they sleep, to the road winding endlessly on before them, promising still more work and beautiful scenery and adventures to come. Is this slow reading? Yes. But I love it so much.
Frodo wakes up and the first thing he does is grumble to himself about his back and neck. He really is an old man. I love him.
Honestly this entire scene is comedy gold
Frodo: "Wake up, hobbits! It's a beautiful morning." Pippin, a literal teenager: "What's so beautiful about it?" ROFLOL
Pippin, literally out in the middle of nowhere: "Sam, draw a bath!"
And for that, Frodo steals his blankets and makes him roll over. Frodo Sassville-Baggins score: 3.5
Pippin: "Water! Where's the water?" Frodo: "I don't keep water in my pockets!" SASSVILLE-BAGGINS SCORE: 4.5
And then he makes Pippin come get the water with him, since he wants it so badly. I love Exasperated Older Sibling Frodo and I wish we got to see so much more of it.
Pippin, after Frodo randomly bursts into poetry: "Wow, was that Bilbo's poetry, or yours? It's kind of a downer."
I'm so glad they kept the "it's dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door" line in the movies, because it really is so good.
Sam's canonically good hearing returns!
Frodo suggesting they prank Gandalf for being late is honestly so cute lol
Twice in this chapter we get the eucatastrophe of Frodo just barely not putting on the Ring, right at the last second. The first time, the Black Rider just walks off on his own, and the second time the Elves show up and scare him off. I will praise Frodo's virtues 'till Spring turns into Winter, but I think this is clear evidence right from the beginning that Frodo was not, and could not, be saved from the temptation of the Ring by any virtue of his own. He is saved; he does not save himself. All of which is honestly very Christian of Tolkien.
Pippin, to Frodo: "All right, keep your secrets!"
I love the walking song. I might do a revised recording of it, if you guys will tolerate my singing voice again X-D
Can we just acknowledge how bad*ss it is that Frodo sneaks up and spies on a Black Rider, just out of curiosity?? Like, I know this is more a feat of stupidity than it is of courage, but given everything we know about them by the end of the book, that is honestly WICKED cool.
Sam, having to be dragged back by his arms: "ELVES! ELVES!"
GILDOR!!
GILDOR MY UNDERRATED BESTIE
I can't wait to draw Gildor. He's gonna be so PRETTY
"But we have no need of other company, and hobbits are so dull" is so funny tho
The Elves, with all the love in their hearts: "You can't sit with us, you're boring!"
FINROD MY MAN
I have not read the Silmarillion, but I know enough about it to know that Finrod is the G.O.A.T.
The Elves: "You're being followed by Black Riders?? Okay you're coming with us now"
Frodo speaking the High-elven tongue like a NERD
I love him
And Gildor immediately like "LOL y'all watch your language, the babies can understand us!" I love him dearly
....Okay wait I have a thought about the hobbits walking with the elves until they nearly fall asleep on their feet. A thought about soldiers and Tolkien's experience in war. Wait. I'm gonna have to make a post about this.
Eyyyy it's the Turin constellation!
Something about the Elven hall did indeed become a core memory for young Lady Glasses. I spent quite a few years building a fantasy world that would capture that sense of mysticism and wonder. Just like Sam and Pippin, I never really remembered the details, but the emotion stuck with me, and it enchanted my imagination.
The Elves bringing out a Thanksgiving feast and saying "sorry we don't have better food" is like going over to your friend's immaculately cleaned house and them saying "sorry for the mess"
Frodo speaking the Elves' language and charming them all is so cute
Sam falling asleep at Frodo's feet as he talks to Gildor is SO CUTE
“At last Frodo asked the question that was nearest to his heart: ‘Tell me, Gildor, have ever you seen Bilbo since he left us?’” OH WOULD YOU LOOK AT—
"My faithful Sam" UGH THE FEELS
Gildor: "But it is said: 'Do not meddle in the affairs of Wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.'" Frodo: "And it is also said, 'Go not to the Elves for counsel, for they will say both no and yes.'" HAHAHA GETTIM FRODO
SASSVILLE-BAGGINS SCORE: 5.5
Gildor saying "you don't need to understand the Black Riders, just stay away from them" is honestly very Christian of Tolkien too. The best spiritual warfare advice I've ever heard is "don't try to understand demons; just get as close to your Protector".
Anyway Gildor complimenting Frodo is very cute and that is all

[NEWS] 151023 IU chats with her same age peers.. in ‘A Bunch of Twenty-three’
Tumblr media
The dress code for the CHAT-SHOW was ‘flower’ as flipping the number 2 to look like an ‘S’ and adding a ‘3′ to it looked like a flower. The title of the event was also ‘A Bunch of Twenty-three′
“Just writing the number 23, it looks like flower petals. Doesn’t it? Am I the only one that thinks so? It’s in the lyrics for ‘Twenty-three’ too. It goes like ‘a bunch of twenty-three~’. I think the age of 23 is just like a flower.”
“I’m in a really good mood right now. More people are listening to my songs than I thought and I tell them that too. My songs are doing really well. Am I being arrogant right now? It’s the first album I’ve done producing for, so the sense of responsibility I have for it is really different from before. I searched it up at 1am and was like, oh, I made it! I was really thankful. Really, I thought to myself that I have to live as a good person from now on (I guess she means for good karma). I’m being really excited right now, isn’t it?”
“I wrote all the lyrics. There were a lot of things I wanted to say. Also, the topics were not light ones. These are songs that contain some of my serious concerns. Originally I thought of having an ordinary album title like ‘People’. Or ‘Purple’ as an extension from ‘People’. I didn’t want to make it sound so serious for everyone. That’s why I put a layer of protective film on the album title. ‘These are not serious words, but just my idle talk (which is where the ‘CHAT’ in CHAT-SHIRE comes from).’ Like this.”
The title song ‘Twenty-three’ is inspired by the cheshire cat from ‘Alice in Wonderland’. When Alice gets lost, the cheshire cat appears in front of her and she asks, ‘Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?’ to which the cheshire cat replies, ‘That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.’
"I don’t know what’s real, really. An article about me appears on a web portal. On some days, it puts me in a good mood? Uwah, I’m just staying at home, but there’s an article on me? But on some days I think to myself that I just want to hide somewhere. I don’t know for sure what I really want and all I have are short moments. Is it like that for you guys too?”
IU sang ‘Zeze’ for a fan with relationship issues. It’s a song that uses the motif of the main character, Zeze, from ‘My Sweet Orange Tree’, which is about an angelic boy with a gentle heart who is at the same time a devil and incorrigible.
“It’s the most fun song I’ve written. I thought Zeze’s temper was sexy. Despite his two sides, I was supporting Zeze and fell in love with him as I read the novel. I become the Minguinho (tree) and the song contains my message for Zeze. I left a lot of things open to interpretation as I was writing this song, so if you read the lyrics, you’ll find it quite interesting.”
To a fan with family issues, IU said, “I hope you know that you’re being really cool” and sang ‘Red Queen’ to the fan as a gift. This is a song about the Red Queen in ‘Through the Looking Glass’. A woman everyone hates, a story about a time she was pretty. IU got her inspiration from a picture that f(x)’s Sulli drew.
"I went to Sulli’s house to play, saw the picture and thought of the Red Queen so I wrote this song. ‘That woman’ is mentioned a lot in the lyrics, but to everyone a different person would probably come to mind. Although I called her a ‘woman’, you can think of the person as a man too. Actually the lyrics to this song are rather bitter. So I tried to sing it as cunningly as possible. In order for my voice to sound cunning in talking about that woman, people listening to the song might find the woman quite poor thing and take her side. Did I manage to pull off the cunningness well?”
To a fan troubled about career and aspirations, IU sang ‘Knee’. This song was written on a sleepless night because of how much doubt she felt about herself and she missed the times when she lay in her grandmother’s lap and could sleep without any worries.
"I feel the same way. I’m 23 now, but why have I not adapted to life yet? Spending each day clumsily like an amateur. ‘Knee’ is song I love the most on the album. I think it’s the first time I almost felt like crying while recording. I was feeling so sad that I couldn’t take it.”
IU won’t be promoting this album. From November onwards she’ll start her nationwide concert tour. “This year, I was involved in all kinds of activities. Other than for my concert, I think I’ve spent all the rest of my energy. I wouldn’t want the emotions I felt while producing this album to mix with those while doing broadcasts. I just want to end on a happy note. That’s what I wish for.”
Sad to part with the fans, she said she would create such opportunities for them again. IU went down from the stage and took a group photo with the audience and promised to post it on her Instagram.
“I’ve got to go and work now. Today was really fun. It’s such a pity, I find it a pity too. Two of my ex-classmates are here. You guys are my true friends. I really really had fun and thank you for coming. Get home safely. It’s a burning Friday, so go have fun somewhere. Don’t just go straight home. Annyeong~”

Murwillumbah NSW
Demi a fan from Murwillumbah, in the Tweed Shire far north NSW asked Sam and Duncan about heading to Murwillumbah today and Tuesday. They were like deer caught in headlights 👀. She totally caught them both out.
I chatted with her and she is a girl in the KNOW! Demi was a very serious bidder for the t-shirts. In the high thousands. Just missed out. I hope she gets her beach photo with the guys.
They are headed there for sure. Perfect place to stay outside of Byron which is hectic.
Rounding out the East coast sojourn. Sam returning and Duncan first time.
Raes at Watego for lunch tomorrow?

Ok this is the most random Frodo/Sam thing to be talking about but I must say it.
In the book, two of Frodo’s lines “it did not sound like the old Sam Gamgee he thought he knew” and “[Sam] was a conspirator, and now he’s a jester!” are among my absolute favorites, yet I’ve read a few interpretations of these moments that are so bizarre I feel I must defend and point out their real meaning.
A few chapter-by-chapter analyses/reviews of LOTR that I’ve read, including some on this site, seem to think that Frodo is being condescending here, that because Sam is his servant, he’s surprised to find out that Sam has “actual opinions about things and actual talents other than gardening.”
Clearly these people don’t understand Frodo. Frodo is not condescending towards anyone! That’s one of his best qualities - he treats everyone with respect. Sam and his father both point out how Frodo, like Bilbo, has always treated them with kindness and thoughtfulness.
These lines certainly have a lot to do with the social barrier between Frodo and Sam, but it’s not because of any biases on Frodo’s part. It’s because Frodo and Sam are not close friends. Frodo’s besties are Merry and Pippin, and Sam’s besties are the Cottons. They’re not buddies who hang out and chat all the time at this point. Until now, Sam has always worked outside while Frodo is either inside or lost in thought in a book outside. They’re quite friendly with each other, but they’re not close. At this point there is still a LOT they don’t know about each other. Another reason for this is that Shire life is practically routine. Things are always the same, day by day, and there’s not much opportunity for hobbits to discuss things that are unusual or uncommon to them.
Tolkien wrote these moments to show how Shire simplicity plus the class system has prevented Frodo and Sam from being able to fully know each other. And it’s when they leave the Shire and its class system behind that Frodo learns more about Sam.
Plus don’t forget that most hobbits don’t like things that are different. At all. They dismiss anything they don’t understand. Sam has been wondering about Elves for a long time, but when they actually meet Elves, Frodo is naturally assuming/worrying that Sam will change his mind and be like everyone else. He’s thinking “now that he sees just how different they are from what we’re used to, he’ll stop liking them.” And why wouldn’t he believe this? 98% of hobbits think this way about things that are different. This is why Frodo has never fit in and has been outcast and considered “odd.” He feels like there’s nobody besides Merry and Pippin who share his curiosity about new things. And Sam’s father is so set in his ways and indifferent toward what he doesn’t understand, so why wouldn’t Sam feel the same? Frodo doesn’t know Sam well enough at this point to assume any differently.
This is why I just cannot get enough of that “it did not sound like the old Sam Gamgee he thought he knew” line. It’s just like that classic moment in love stories where one realizes they didn’t really know the other at all but is now discovering they have something special in common. Frodo worries that Sam will dismiss the Elves… but instead, Sam says something very insightful and deep about them. Sam struggles to word what he means, but Frodo gets it. And he’s amazed. It hits him that Sam is different too, like him. Sam is actually interested in foreign things and thinks deeply and critically about them, just like Frodo. Sam is a kindred spirit, and Frodo is amazed. IMO, THIS is the moment where Frodo develops deeper feelings for Sam. He discovers that Sam thinks on the same wavelength that he does.
The same thing happens when Frodo says the “jester” line. He says this after Sam spontaneously invents and sings the song about trolls. Improvising an entire song on the spot, with perfect rhymes and all, isn’t exactly something that everyone can do. I certainly couldn’t do that. That takes a certain gift. Sam’s place in the class system has nothing to do with it. There are plenty of rich snobs in the Shire who could never improvise a troll song if their lives depended on it. Trolls are foreign to the Shire and yet another thing hobbits don’t really understand, but not only that, rhyming is just plain HARD. And here Sam does it like a pro. Of course Frodo is impressed. Don’t tell me you weren’t impressed when you first read this part in the book, and I bet you weren’t looking down on Sam for being the servant. Actually this scene shows Frodo giving Sam more respect than Pippin does. Pippin asks “where did you hear that?” assuming Sam heard the song from someone else. Only Frodo can tell that Sam made it up himself. (Side note: there’s another similar moment with Pippin earlier. Pippin orders Sam to make breakfast like one would order a servant; Frodo punishes Pippin for this rudeness by yanking Pippin’s blanket away and rolling him over. Of course Sam doesn’t mind cooking at all and would’ve done it even if Pippin hadn’t asked, but that scene, though subtle, shows Frodo doesn’t like anyone talking to Sam that way. Frodo himself never orders Sam to do anything. My point holds up.)
And it goes both ways. The horrors of the Quest cause Sam to see new depths to Frodo that he never saw before. He sees Frodo’s incredible endurance against both the Wraith wound and the Ring. He sees Frodo’s incredible nobleness and bravery, choosing to take on the burden of the Ring himself. Normal life in the Shire could never have brought out these qualities in Frodo for Sam to see. Sam, too, has a lot to learn about Frodo, and the Quest lets him see Frodo at his best and at his worst.
And everything they learn about each other only makes them love each other more and more.

Y’know, the ending of botfa was such a wonder to behold. BEAR WITH ME HERE OKAY, HEAR MY POINTS.
I’ll start by breaking down some of the scenes. So first, we have the scene were Fili is momentarily captured by Azog at the top of that old abandoned fortress-thing with all of Azog’s army behind him. Then good old Azzerz (thats my name for azog) does his speech about which order he’d kill everyone in his plan that went horribly wrong, f in chat for azog.
And then Fili does that badass backwards spinning-kick and knocks Azog to the floor, then he dodges all of the army like a pro and kills like 75% of them (we all know how it goes so there’s no point going through it. But fili was awesome in that moment so i just want some appreciation for him there)
And THEN we cut to Kili, Bolg and Tauriel. I love the dynamic between Kili and Tauriel in that moment as they work together to take out Bolg, jumping off rocks and attacking him from both sides and being fabulous as always. Especially that bit where Bolg grabs Kili then Tauriel walks up behind him and kicks him in the balls. What an amazing scene. Then they manage to chase him to Legolas and that sketchy bridge that looks like it would collapse at any minute and Legolas starts flexing his skills and spins and slashes and runs up the bridge as it collapses in slow motion and nearly falls then flips himself back up again and does that cool thing where he stabs Bolg in the head and bounces off his shoulders and the whole bridge sinks then collapses and Bolg dies from fall damage then just in case he wasnt dead, the piece of rubble falls on him. Then Tauriel and Kili finally kiss and see Legolas stood far in the distance and wave at him and he finally accepts that Tauriel friendzoned him but he’s totally chill with it and it’s so wholesome.
AND THEN WE HAVE THORIN VS AZOG!! AND THORIN COMPLETELY WRECKS HIM! So they fight on the ice and Thorin uses Azog’s weight against him. We all know how he picks up Azzer’s big old wrecking ball thing and throws it at him and Azog goes under the ice. Then Thorin starts following him which tbh could have been quite a risky move and could’ve got him killed, but he sees Azog’s eyes open and does a BACKFLIP to avoid Azzer’s sword and does a majestic hair-flip, then yells a dwarvish war-cry and starts attacking him. Then it goes a bit downhill as we all know and how as Thorin’s pinned against the floor, Bilbo comes running at Azog and knocks him off and Thorin’s like “omagawsh ma husband here to save me <33” then Azog is on the floor cus bilbo wrecked him, and Thorin does that thing where he waltzes up to him holding bilbo’s hand and stabs Azog in the back and its so cool tho
and then Thorin proposes to bilbo, they reunite with Fili & Kili and they all hug and they’re tearful and Dwalin shows up and gives them a big old bear hug and its the sweetest. And then the eagles show up and take them all away from the oncoming army.
then when bilbo’s going home, thorin basically does the same as sam and bilbo’s like “i’m going home alone.” Then thorin says “of course you are. And I’m coming with you!!” It’s such a nice nod to lotr and i cried my eyes out there. Then they kiss again and all the dwarves cheer and Kili’s there holding tauriel’s hand then BARD AND THRANDUIL SHOW UP and make up with thorin and the company then Bard and Thrandy kiss too and Thranduil proposes to Bard then Kili proposes to tauriel and thennnnn (sorry for the long post) they all have a joint wedding at the shire and all the hobbits are like 0.0 “wat” at the sight of all these dwarves and elves and men but they embrace it all confused like “those are gonna be some interesting kids lmao!!”
then you see thorin moving in with bilbo after giving the crown to Fili and i cried again when they adopted frodo and you see Fili as King under the Mountain with lots of children and you can see how he looks slightly older and Peter Jackson and the makeup crew did such a good job portraying all the horrors they SURVIVED and LIVED to tell the tale of. And then it cuts to Gandalf showing up like 50 years later and you can see thorin sat in the back in an armchair reading a book and i cried again. overall such a wholesome movie and my favourite out of all three. Love that movie to DEATH haha, death’s a funny thing to mention considering how little of it there was 😅
sorry again for the long post but i had to rant about that movie!
