It's insane how casually the calls to end a genocide, not just the students in Columbia University but pro Palestinian views in general, are labelled as terrorists. The audacity to still publicly support Israel's actions even after the horrific bombings these last months and then turn around to say that the ones who oppose it are violent anti semites is just baffling

When the rest of the world looks at the united states right now, we see a government who sends billions to support genocide but cannot help their own people starving on the streets.
We see a police force who won't go in to save children from school shootings, but deploy at a rapid rate to arrest peaceful protestors using their right to free speech to protest a genocide
America, you are a war mongering snake eating your own tail. You will protect and support war criminals in another country but let your own people starve and die
To the students bravely protesting now, we see your strength. We see what we saw when students protested the Vietnam War. We have faith you will prevail

The police and the higher ups aren’t arresting protesters because they are afraid that their minds will be changed. They chose money over people and that’s set in stone. No, they are afraid that these protesters will change YOUR mind.

Barricaded doors at the occupation of a campus administration building in California State Polytechnic University Humboldt.
The occupation of Siemens Hall was established after a violent clash with campus and local police in Monday night. The students and community members occupying the building have stated that they have no plans to leave until campus leadership supports a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and divests from companies that support the Israeli military.
Cal Poly Humboldt joins several college campuses across the U.S., including Columbia University in New York City, University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Southern California to occupy campus spaces in support of Palestine.

Right wing Republican politicians and even some Democrats are frothing at the mouth in outrage over pro-Palestinian student protests. Some are calling for arrest, others for the National Guard to suppress these protests. The central rationale is equating anti-Zionism with antisemitism, a false equivalence intended to shut down the protests.
But where was the outrage on the right over decades of christofascist demonstrations at Planned Parenthood clinics? Why was no one calling for the arrest of the mobs of hateful, screaming zealots who inspired bombings and murder? Why today are LGBTQ event organizers forced to arrange their own security as protection from actual Nazis threatening their existence?
Hate speech is hate speech no matter if the target is black or gay or Jewish or fat or trans. No one of these groups deserves more protection than the others.
Protesting for changes in government policies is NOT hate speech. Policies don’t have feelings. Policies can’t be traumatized. In the USA we have a right to protest peacefully.

So I’m clear, those rightwing religious freaks are allowed to regularly berate students on college campuses but an anti-genocide movement is where these institutions draw the line?
Qu(wh)ite interesting!

hey um are you guys seeing that columbia is threatening to bring in the national guard?
for those of you who don’t know, there were protests in the 1970s on us college campuses against the Vietnam War. At Kent State University, they called in the national guard, who massacred the protesting students.
This is an eerily similar chain of events. It’s mind-boggling that the US is so committed to imperialism that they would rather kill their own citizens than stop killing foreigners. More than that, that they would do so multiple times over, decades apart.
I hope I’m wrong and that the students will be okay. My thoughts are with them, just as my thoughts are always with the people of Palestine.
