DPXDC Prompt #142 Part 1
It had been a few days since his birthday, his parents forgot again but that was how things went in his family. At least his sister, Jazz knew how to throw something together quickly so he at least got to spend it with her and his friends. Speaking of his friends, they were hanging out in the park together. They had gotten close over the summer. Trips to the Nasty Burger, followed by trips to the mall and then late night sleepovers were the normal weekend pattern for the trio especially the later in the summer it got.
They’d talk about all sorts of things while swinging or chilling around the slide. Currently their conversation had drifted towards which superpower would you like if you had the meta gene. Strangely the whole town seemed to be meta free. Not that anyone in the town hated metas just that no one possessed the gene.
“I think I’d like to be able to control Technology with my mind.” Tucker said, pointing toward his forehead in emphasis, “ I’d never have to set poor Lucy down again!!” He hugged his current PDA tightly.
Sam and Danny shared a look while Sam rolled her eyes. “I think I’d like to control plants like Poison Ivy. I wonder if she’d be up for a goth side-kick” Sam said, punching the air in front of her with her fist. “What about you Danny?”
Danny took a few minutes to mull over the question before answering, “I think I’d like to fly. Even if I don’t get into the college I want I’d be able to fly up there anyways.”
“Pfft, bring me back a piece of a meteorite when you do,” Sam chuckled. They all knew their dreams of getting powers would never come true. Not without the meta-gene anyways.
“Sure,” Danny shrugged, “Oh, by the way since my parents are out of town I’m going to check out the portal to see if I can get it running for them. Want to see it?”
“Dude, that’s sick! Unfortunately my parent’s cousin is flying in tomorrow and I’ll need to help prep stuff” Tucker said sadly.
“I don’t know about that Danny, your parents are great but I don’t know if I trust this portal” Sam said, raising an eyebrow at him.
“I wouldn’t worry it’s not likely to actually work or anything,” Danny shrugged.
Soon the trio had to get back to their respective homes. Well Sam and Tucker did. Danny’s parents were out of town at some convention.
They had left Danny and Jazz home alone and they gave instructions for Danny and Jazz to take turns cleaning the lab and making sure the portal didn’t suddenly turn on while they were gone. They had tried before heading out for their trip but unfortunately nothing happened when they turned it on.
Danny wanted to check it out for them when he was done cleaning. He also figured if he could help his parents with their science it would be easier for him to get into the college he wanted to achieve his dreams.
He quickly finished cleaning, and then put on his hazmat suit. Sam had once made fun of the Jack Fenton sticker placed on the front and fortunately it was easy enough for Danny to remove. Then he took a calming breath and stood in front of the portal. As it stood at the moment, it was a dark hole in the wall that seemed to suck all the light out of the room. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up as he suddenly got the urge to run out, maybe he could come back with Sam and Tucker? Unfortunately he knew his parents were back tomorrow so if he wanted to help he needed to do it now.
Stealing his nerves he took a step forward and then another. Into the tunnel he went. It was then he realized he made an error when he found something caught on his foot. He flailed as he tried to catch himself and his hand pushed some kind of button on the wall.
A flash of white light and he felt an eternity of agony. It felt unbearably hot as Danny could feel himself being melted and then put back together. Soon he lost consciousness as everything went dark.
He wasn’t sure how long he was out but he definitely wasn’t at home anymore. He seemed to be in the hospital, the usual medical supplies seemed to be all around as well as a few things he couldn’t identify. He didn’t seem to be attached to any monitoring equipment which seemed a little off but the fact he weirdly didn’t seem to have any burn marks on him. He was sure the portal should have killed him and the fact that he was somehow completely unscathed made him a little worried. Maybe he did die?
His thoughts were interrupted as someone walked into the room. They had messy blond hair, blue eyes, and wore a trench coat. He looked relieved when he saw Danny was awake.
“Took you long enough, kid you were out for a whole week!” The newcomer exclaimed.
A week.
The thought swirled around in Danny’s head. That meant his Family thought he was missing. Sam and Tucker knew he was missing. That also meant he missed the first week of school. That probably wouldn’t look well on an application.
He could tell his thoughts were spiraling a little but he couldn’t help it. He didn’t even know what exactly caused him to be out for that long.
He thought about what could’ve happened to end him up in a hospital and then the thought occurred to him.
The portal.
“What about my parents' portal?” Danny asked the guy.

The house of Nightingale & Constantine ( P. 1 )
> next part
.・゜-: ✧ :-
You know, when Batman reassured him (was it tho? His way of using words is a bit... confusing.) of bringing in a third person for their common problem, Phantom, Danny, didn't press nor worry.
He regrets it now, just a little bit.
Dick liked Danny.
The small guy has been an absolute delight!
(He isn't grinning when he and Damian duke it out, doesnt watch fondly when Danny and Jason exchange the most weirdest ways of insulting someone or when He and Steph gossip, Cass sitting behind him with her hands in his hair.)
(He can see from the corner of his eye the way Tim hides a grin behind his hand, texting Danny someone rapidly and their Guest laughing at random times, the way even Duke, despite wearing the sunglasses, seems to warm up pretty quickly to their new brother friend.)
(It's doesn't help that he has black hair and blue eyes either.)
Danny has been living with them for some time now, temporarily as it may be, and grew on them all pretty quickly.
Bruce told them when Constantine arrived at the cave, seemingly irritated for unknown reasons, and they all were ushered to the elevator.
There is no noise as they arrive, Danny few feet off the ground and engaged on a hot topic with Steph as they go down the stairs.
The moment Constantine is in sight however, has their resident ghost snapping out of the conversation and zooming in on the man from afar.
It's kind of funny? The way his black hair fluffs up like in a Ghibli Movie, the way his eyes narrow to slits, glowing a faint green.
Many shout in alarm at the sight of agitation (?), Dick sees Constantines own eyes glow a eery gold??
It's like two cats staring down one another, a showdown.
(Someone should record this.)
The two meet down in the middle of the cave, Danny is bristling and John scowling.
"Really Bats? A Nightingale?" The blond man scoffs, pushing his hands into the pockets of his coat, hands roaming for cigarettes probably.
"Excuse me? I thought the line of Constantine died out back then, with the way you handle your stuff." The teen hisses back, a hand running through his poofed up hair.
"Hah!" The Hellblazer gives a mocking laugh, cigar already in hand and lit. "'With the way we handle our stuff'? Weren't the Nightingales out of commission not so long ago?"
The glow might have died out, but the tension only rose higher.
Danny turns to Batman, glowering.
"Asking for the help of the house of Constantine? Are you crazy? Those nutjobs have no self-preservation!"
John's eye twitches at the remark.
"No self-preservation, my ass. Nightingales do nothing but mess with stuff they shouldn't, talk about self-preservation when you have it yourself, pipsqueak."
And Danny? Danny growls.
"All you do is trick every being to do your bidding! One day all of this will catch up to your house and me? I will watch as it burns."
The blonds cigarette snaps in his grip.
"Burn? Me? Doesn't the house if Nightingales hunt the beings we 'trick'? It seems to me that your lineage is already going down as we speak."
The argument (?) continues and the batclan does nothing but watch as if its a particularly interesting tennis match.
(John looks like he's about 5 seconds away from strangling Danny and the teen about to bite off John's head.)
"What's going on?" Finally, Batman steps in.
"What's going on? What's going on?? You said you'd bring in a third person! Not a constantine!"
The bat shows no signs of anything really, when both teen and man whip around to face him.
"I thought you'd know better than to involve yourself with the house of Nightingales."
"I was here first! No take backs!"
"And yet I know bats longer, don't I, pipsqueak?"
"Foolish trickster!"
"Imprudent necromancer!"
(Apparently, beef between two houses of dark exists and they had the chance to experience it first hand.)
(This is one of the many occurrences.)

A DpxDc prompt because I <3 all of you but am too shy to talk in the discord.
The Subnautica au I promised! (I might make two of them)
Okay, so Danny is around 14 or 15 in this. He is still a halfa but the portal has been temporarily closed for plot reasons. So the portal is closed and Danny has no clue what to do now. Due to the portal being closed Danny's grades have improved exponentially enough that he gets an work offer from Altera (ignore the child labor it's the Giw/Altera's shady business practices fault)
Danny is ecstatic because he's finally getting the opportunity to go to space! He knows if he waits the portal will be reopened and he'll never have a chance like this again so he takes it. In less than a month Danny has been trained and is shipped off to the Aurora. He's heading towards planet 4546b with very little information on the planet itself.
The crash happens and Danny doesn't use his powers to save the ship because something around the atmosphere was preventing full accessing his powers in full. Danny scrambles to the life pods and ends up being the only one in life pod five. The whole life pod scene happens with Danny being knocked out by the panel flying off the wall.
He wakes up with the life pod on fire and quickly uses what he can of his ice powers to put it out not realizing there's a fire extinguisher. Danny exits the life pod and realizes that a lot of people he talked to on the ship not even a day ago were probably dead. Judging by his inability to go ghost, he wouldn't be reuniting with them in the ghost zone any time soon.
He is devastated but goes about exploring and trying to find any other survivors. His hope of finding survivors near the crash zone dies when the ship explodes and starts leaking deadly radiation. Danny of course rushes to try and fix this. It's easier for him to get there because he can stay under water for an inhuman amount of time and has a built up immunity to radiation as a halfa.
Now to the DC part of this. Let's stick with only the batfam existing in this universe. The entire batfam are classified as leviathan's. All of them have two forms with one of said forms being semi humanoid mer like appearance. They are still pretty big in this form, think 7-8ft at the smallest (aka Damian) The other form is something I like to call
Big f-ken fish™
Which is full on terrifying reapers (we'll decide what each of the fam specifically look like later) and a lot of them are chilling in the crash zone when Danny is fixing the Aurora's reactor. Danny has not yet been spotted by the reapers.
Now they're already pissed off because a big arse ship just crashed into their planet and destroyed a great deal of it. They don't exactly know what a space ship is but they do know that the technology is advanced and the only thing remotely close on their planet is from the precursors who were a bunch of pricks.
Before the explosion the fam kept an eye on the weird creatures that crawled out of the metal eggs They watch them almost immediately start dying from predators or Kharaa. They were there when the ship exploded and started leaking radiation and killing the local wild life much to Damian's despair.
So the Fam are pretty pissed off at this point and are circling the ship. They immediately noticed when the ship stops leaking radiation and spot Danny swimming away from the reck quicker than any of the other ones that crawled out of the eggs.
Granted most of the other ones from the eggs immediately died and didn't have faces (the wet suits looked weird and Danny refuses to wear them no matter how much easier they would make things >:(
They start watching him because obviously there's something odd about this thing it looks kinda like a much smaller version of their smaller forms. Danny is getting pretty ticked off that his PDA keeps making false alarms of leviathan's. Duke, and tim are the ones monitoring Danny in the safe shallows. Jason and Dick in the crash zone. Barbra and Stephanie in the kelp forest. Cass and Bruce are patrolling the grassy plateaus.Damian is by himself at the quarantine gun/ sunbeam landing sight.
Danny sets up base near the quarantine gun™ because for some reason even though he's not infected he can't turn the damn thing off. So Damian is the only one currently capable of watching him. Damian has a theory that he 100% sure is correct. As a 1600 year old leviathan he's not a baby he's almost an adult and doesn't remember being a baby. This thing crawled out of an egg and is super tiny so it is obviously a baby and a very smart one at that. While it didn't have the claws, gills, tail, or scales they had it was super fast, could freeze things, had super strong hands despite looking dull and frail, it could take useless scraps and rocks and turn them into complex structures. It was obviously a new type of leviathan the ship carrying eggs. Danny was the smallest of the babies but he was also the strongest, and smartest; surviving long enough to have eyes and hair. This baby was young enough that he still needed to surface for air he needed to be protected.
Danny has no clue he's now being stalked by a group of reapers that decided he was their new baby brother/son

Prompt 238
"Ugh. There's a group at the barrier again." Star squinted over the buildings they were all sprawled on almost lazily. "Seriously? I thought the GIW would have given up by now since there's 'no more humans' here," Sam's voice was sarcastic as she combed claws through her hair. The others grumbled in agreement, Valerie spreading her wings in a stretch. "Who wants to bet Danny is already about to crash their intrusion?" "Hah! I bet Dash is there already to video it!" "Those are both suckers bets," Wes scoffed, clear eyelid closing over his eyes and temporarily dimming the glow. "Let's be honest, Paulina has already left, she's going to get there first."
- - -
The GIW have been having a bit of trouble. Maybe just a bit. See, they were supposed to be taking care of the ecto-entities. Studying them, y'know? But er, some earlier agents had been a bit trigger happy, which meant the entities were well... aggressive. And a city full of dragon-fae-beings disliking any presence wearing white was rather terrifying, so they... might have gotten permission to bring a hero with them. For protection of course. ... Hopefully no one dies-
Feel free to ignore any of these pics lol, they're just ideas.
Order: Jazz, Danny, Tucker, Sam, Valerie, Wes, Dash, Kwan, Paulina, Star, Ellie, Dan

cant stop thinking about danny fenton DST mod. sketchdump time
mod concept/rambling under the cut:
Danny Fenton
The Half-Ghost
Favorite food: Veggie Burger (despite the name, this is actually considered a meat item. both sam and tucker would be willing to eat this!)
200 Health | 175 Hunger | 120 Sanity
PERKS:
Is a ghost... sometimes [neutral to ghosts, innate cold resist, human + ghost form]
Human food only feeds half of him [.5x stat gain from food + need for ectoplasm]
Has obsessions to fulfill [increased attack/defense when allies are nearby, decreased stats when no allies, loses sanity/other consequence if allies die]
Has a deadly weakness to electricity [increased damage+sanity loss from lightning, electric damage] ...also damaged by proximity to evil flowers, but this will apply to ALL ghosts, not just danny
ABILITIES:
Transforms into his ghost half by alt-clicking himself.
can fly over/walk through obstacles (ignores collision)
increased damage/defense & increased hunger drain, constant sanity drain
ghost-like sanity drain aura (applies to nearby players except Wendy)
is a "monster" (attacked by pigmen, bunnymen, catcoons, etc)
takes more damage from electricity + evil flowers than his human form. (maybe also increased damage from magic/shadows/planar attacks?)
Cannot talk in ghost form. Uses incomprehensible language instead (either "OooOOOoo" like DST ghosts or made up ghostspeak)
Can shoot ectoblasts by alt-clicking enemies. Costs hunger per use. Usable in both forms, but deals more damage in ghost form.
maybe has a small chance to freeze enemies, with increased chance in winter?
If Danny dies, he leaves his human corpse behind (instead of a skeleton) and is stuck in ghost mode.
Permanently insane, -90% max HP. Corpse needs to be revived with a telltale heart [or some other item] (revives with no health penalty).
If killed again, corpse is replaced with a skeleton and danny becomes a "normal" DST ghost. When reviving using vanilla methods, has a bigger health penalty + sanity loss.
ITEMS/MOBS:
ECTOPLASM. Periodically spawned by ghosts & pipspooks. Chance drop on a ghost's death.
Danny needs to eat ectoplasm regularly or he gradually gets weaker [or some other consequence here].
Can be given to ghosts to make them temporary allies [Danny only]
DOG TOY. Temporarily spawns CUJO.
limited "loyalty" (spawn time) but can be fed ectoplasm to keep him around longer
immortal/can't be killed, loses loyalty instead
can walk on water (ignores collision)
"gets big" whenever danny is attacked. will attack all nearby mobs (even if not aggressive) for a certain amount of time before shrinking again
BLOB GHOSTS. passive mob/won't attack.
either spawn near headstones or around ectoplasm left on the ground
“prey” animals like rabbits (will run away from scary creatures & players, excluding danny/other ghosts)
automatically start following danny whenever he's near + grant him small sanity gain
will periodically spawn ectoplasm on the ground (higher rate than regular ghosts) OR passively restore danny’s ectoplasm meter based on proximity
ectoplasm is guaranteed drop on death (but why would you kill them you monster 🙁🙁🙁🙁)
despawns after a couple days
other potential items/perks:
ectoplasm tracker- points towards ectoplasm/ectoplasm sources on the map. or maybe cujo can track it instead?
fenton thermos- holds ectoplasm and/or ghosts in storage slots?
Other things I'm less certain on:
if ghost form has higher hunger drain, should it also drain the ectoplasm meter faster?
want something to imply that ghosts are emotional creatures/danny's strength is tied to his emotions somehow, but "growing weaker/stronger at low sanity" is an overused perk. maybe he takes increased damage at low sanity?
maybe some other protection based perks idk
maybe his human form should be weaker than average, to encourage gathering/etc in human form, and combat in ghost form?
ok its that it byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Going Light speed at a Dead stop
(Danny is 15 in the beginning)
When Barry found Danny he thought he was dead, he couldn’t find pulse and he wasn’t breathing. So needless to say he almost had a heart attack when he tried to call his captain and the kids says no cops. Barry drops the phone and rushes to his side and tries to convince the kid he needs help but he refuses and tries to leave. Barry isn’t having it and picks the kid up and is shocked at how light he is. Meanwhile Danny barely hanging on feels a rush of energy from Barry and turns to him and say “what are you?” Before his eyes roll to the back of his head. Barry speeds him home where Iris is waiting with a large order of Chinese on the table. The moment she sees the teen in his arms she gets to work she grasp some towels too put on the couch so Barry can run and get her everything she needs. He’s rushing not even gone a moment before he returns to find Iris in shock. He looks to see an incredibly familiar incision, one he had hoped he would never see outside of work, let alone on kid. That’s when he notices the green mixed in his blood. They look at each other and decide that whatever is going on they were going to make the people who did it regret their lives.
It takes a week for Danny to wake up and when he does he’s STARVING. Iris is the only one home as they were taking turns calling out of work she was searching through missing persons reports to see if she could find her mysterious guest. When she hears noise in the kitchen she grabs a bat an sneaks around to see who it is. To her surprise it’s the kid rummaging through the drawers. She puts down the bat and says “I keep the hood stuff in the pantry”Danny falls over himself in shock he says sorry but that he was just SO hungry. She laughs and says come on you can’t possibly eat more than my husband. So she starts making him some food and, out of habit, just keeps making food not noticing he stopped eating about 3 pizza slices when it was her turn to be startled when he comments “Lady I don’t think anyone eats more than your husband” they both laugh and go to the couch after they set aside the food for later.
Iris looks at Danny seriously and tells him that she and her husband just want to help him Danny says that no one can help him and she says that you’d be surprised. When Barry gets home soon after because Iris messaged him he walks into Iris telling the kid about the Christmas turkey incident. Iris properly introduces them and Danny says don’t worry so long as the turkey didn’t gain sentience he’s got him beat. They offer Danny a place to stay and he gratefully accepts “temporarily”
It takes a few weeks but Barry and Iris manage to convince Danny to tell them about what happened. He explained how he wasn’t normal and that he died and came back half ghost, he explained the anti ecto acts and he finally revealed how his parents turned on him. When they manage to get Danny to bed after the tearful confession Iris and Barry get to work. After contacting Danny’s sister and working together they managed to put together enough evidence of child abuse and neglect to get custody taken from them. Jazz assured them that she had a way to prevent them from announcing to the world that Danny was a half ghost (Desiree though it took a lot of convincing not to simple “disappear” them) and Barry worked with his government sources (Batman) to try to take down the GIW. It takes about a month but they manage to get everything done and even get custody papers together. Jazz comes by and helps give the good news and when they offer to adopt him he accepts whole heartedly. When Barry offers to help Danny with the hero stuff he explains he was only ever a hero to stop the ghosts, but it’s been awhile since any of them have attacked. Jazz then reveals that CW had left a message for Danny to come meet him and to bring his new parents.
When the arrive (is Wülf helped them get in the zone) at long now Danny guides them to the living room where he sees a plate of glowing green cookies and digs in. Both adults are surprised as they’ve never seen Danny eat so much but before they can question it the answer rings out. The cookies contain very little calories but have an incredibly high ectoplasm levels which he will be needing if he is to grow into a healthy adult. When Danny sees clockwork he pounces giving him a hug. He looks down at Danny and says that he’s missed him and that he’s sorry he could not stop what happened. Danny says that while he’s not happy about it he does understand. He explains that by ghost standards he is in fact Danny’s ghost parent but that he still needs his human parents as well and that they should think of it as joint custody. They started talking about Danny’s needs and well-being having a reasonable conversation. If only Barry could shake the feeling that this guy wasn’t staring into his soul, judging him. Danny asks about Elle and if she was okay and CW tells him rest assured she was fine, they try to ask who Elle is and CW stops them and says that will be revealed when it is time. Clockwork explains to Danny that the reason the ghost have stopped attack is that with his defeat of both Nocturne and Vortex as well as winning favor with Pandora by willingly returning her box he has been accepted as the next king. Barry and Iris look shocked at this but Danny tries to reassure them that it’s just a fancy title, Clockwork begs to differ and swears them to secrecy as the identity of the young king should not been known in the mortal realm else people will be able to summon him.
As they are about to leave Clockwork gives Danny the ring of rage and tells him that until he learns on his own this will help him make portal to see him so they can spend time together and study his future duties and powers. Throughout the whole interaction Barry can feel the ghosts eyes on him even when he was clearly looking at Danny. Just as they were about to step through the portal Clockwork says “Barry Allen time is not to be tested by the living, I will be watching you” Barry gets a chill and nods before stepping through the portal.
(This is getting way longer than planned)
Thing are going great Barry and Iris enroll Danny in school and with attentive parents helping him when needed Danny excelled in school and Jazz even came to visit during he breaks. About a month after the adoption is finalized Danny is introduced to the rest of the family where he meets his Flash crazy (danny will never let Barry live it down) cousin who immediately takes a liking to Danny. It was a fun afternoon and Barry made sure to make the grave sacrifice of eating extra so no one would notice when Danny barely touched the food. This is the first day Danny actually calls Iris mom without noticing and she doesn’t say anything as to not spook him “. She does however lord it over Barry’s head for a week that she got called mom first until Danny starts calling Barry dad.
About a year in Wally finds out that Barry is The flash and recreate his accident to get his powers. When Danny finds out what Wally did he refused to speak to him and when he finally did he screamed at him about how irresponsible he was, how no matter how smart he is he’s still just a kid and he could have DIED and by the end of it Danny is crying and I’m a rare moment of maturity Wally apologizes that he didn’t think of that as a possibility, but that he’s okay and he’s not going anywhere anytime soon, Danny says good cus if he did he would not rest until he found his ghost and beat him up. That changes when Wally charges in one day and sees Danny’s scar. Barry sits Wally down and explains a few things, not everything, but enough that he understands that he can’t tell anyone not even dick.
Wally laughs not knowing Danny is dead serious. Eventually Wally joins the YJ team and he absolutely will not shut up about this girl named Artemis which Danny teases him about all the time. Now Wally’s birthday is coming up and Danny spends the whole day before his birthday with him (to distract him while they got all the party supplies) he gets to ride on Danny’s new Harley And they spent the whole day hanging out unfortunately Batman vetoed Danny coming to the cave so he wouldn’t be able to attend the party. When the snowstorm happens the next day, at first Barry thought it was Danny’s doing but that was disproven when they realized the full scale of the storm. Danny, who had met and semi befriended captain cold through pun wars every time they run into each other, contacts captain cold to try to get some intel. He doesn’t get much, he doesn’t expect to colds still a villain after all, but he did get advise for places to avoid. After a day of doing what he could to lesson the storms incognito Danny learned what Wally during the crisis and he congratulate him on a job well done. Now at this point Danny has not met any of the YJ team except Dick and though he is unaware he is robin. However Danny encounters a problem of his own that he needs help with. He shows up one day at the base unannounced and ends up fighting with other Kaldur who thinks he’s an intruder. Danny is flirting and making puns the whole fight until Wally and Dick arrive and stop the fight. Wally gets mad at Kaldur at first before Danny jumps in and says something along the lines of I’ll admit I should have introduced myself.
Anyway once Zatanna, Conner and M’gann arrive from school (and wtf Wally you just FORGOT to tell me you had a Martian on your team not cool) Danny and Flash (who was running late…again) explain that their mission is to recover a young girl who was being held captive. None of them are aware at the time this is actually a training exorcise as well as a way to introduce their new teammate. After the mission they arrive at the base where Elle pounces on Danny and yells Dad confusing everyone in the vicinity including Barry. Both of them laugh at the collective faces and Danny explains that Elle is his clone, created by an insane billionaire who was obsessed with him being his son, so he tried cloning him and well. She came out missing some parts and a bit more dead than expected. They were all still pretty confused until Danny (with the go ahead from CW) transforms in front of the team and before he can even introduce himself Zatanna does it for him. Absolutely fangirling over THE Phantom, ghost hero who has guarded the world from Plasmius and gone toe to toe with vandal savage. This of course shocks everyone because he’s like he’s 17. Danny just says time travel whatcha gonna do, and I wouldn’t say I’ve gone toe to toe with vandal, but did I break into his hideout in 1653 and paint it entirely pink, yes, yes I did. He explains that yes he is still alive and he is also dead and no he doesn’t plan on joining the team, but his daughter is very excited for.
I might add some more tomorrow but I need sleep but let me leave a bit of cold current before I sleep
When Kaldur pulls Danny to the side and asks why he didn’t just explain who he was, he said he couldn’t resist teasing him a bit, and hey that’s how he got together with red huntress so, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Wally doesnt know wether he should watch Danny possibly crash and burn or be his wingman

Im... um.. the ambassador? 1
I did it. Its a fic now. Based off this idea I had.  A03 Next
Ellie misses her monthly check in with Danny. He finds her in the basement.
The first time Ellie destabilized Danny got panicky. Granted so was she. It was only thanks to the Red Huntress change in heart that she got out alive. A quick little jab of an experimental ecto-dejecto was all it took. She was off on yet another worldwide adventure. Unlike Danny, she didn’t want to go amongst the stars she wanted to sightsee. Find her own path in life. Freshly stabilized with some new equipment she was off. Her first stop was going to be Hong Kong. Now equipped with a phone and translation app Sam downloaded it. Danny wanted her to have at least one call a month to ensure she was safe.
Danny was just being overly protective.
Until he wasn’t. Week three hit and it starts all over again. Her powers being stripped, slowly turning into goop with prolonged use. She had barely explored Hong Kong. Ellie never got to figure out if the mysterious black bat even existed. She’d heard about it in some alley. The same one she was currently having her conundrum in. She wouldn’t make it to Danny on her own. Making the dreaded phone call she pretended not to notice the feeling of being watched.
The phone was a good call. Not that she’d ever admit that to Danny. Danny answered on the first ring and opened a portal the moment she explained. Showing up in full regal attire cursing as he walked through. Whoops. He had been in one of those council meetings.
Danny had just been pacing in the medical ward in the far frozen. A constant back and forth as frostbite began performing tests. Connecting her to tubes she was even in a clear tube at one point. It was as frostbite said a worst-case scenario. The reason Vlad had been so unsuccessful wasn’t due to a lack of DNA as he thought. Those of the infinite realm needed a core to maintain their powers. In Danny’s case, the Ice core is what allowed his powers to safely flow through him. Without it he would either fully die or just never have maintained a ghost form. The core is what allowed the balance between life and death.
She was not made with a core. Hence the destabilizing when using her powers. A core could not form over time without steady ectoplasma. They only grew. When Danny died in the portal accident it was the ectoplasma from the realm that created his core. Or the start of one. Frostbite was a tad bit confusing. Apparently, the core over time gets more mature as the ghost comes into their powers. She was made with DNA and ectoplasma. The powers the ectoplasma gave her would kill her. Vlad had the time for the ecto acne to create a core. Had his powers shown immediately after his college accident it was a one-way trip. No half-life included.
Frostbite found a way to temporarily as in maybe 24 hours max keep her staple as is. Meaning she could keep using her powers for the next 24 hours. His only solution was to attach her to one of his vats of pure ectoplasma. She’d be stuck in the far-frozen medical ward on an IV, with no powers nothing for at least a year. Frostbite says three would be his guess. Her having powers prior to the core was a setback.
Danny did something that seemed to surprise Frostbite. You could see the shock on his face. The way his eyes showed concern. Frostbite had looked at her and then at Danny.
Frostbite then pulled Danny out of the room. Ellie should have been concerned by that, but one of the yetis asked if she wanted to learn some fighting stances. That was much more fun than waiting in worry. If she was going to end up stuck for a couple of years, she was going to make these 24 hours the best she’s had. If it came to it, she’d stay in the medical ward. No more turning into goo for her.
When Danny came back, they had a solution. Ellie could receive a portion of Dany’s Core.
Those in the room seemed to be still at the admission. When she asked if it was safe for her the response was simply that there are cases where a parent ghost gave up a part to save their child when the core was injured or destroyed. As she was Danny’s clone it should be perfectly harmless for her. She would have no problems in the future.
After the procedure was done it wasn’t Danny who took her back to the human realm. Jazz had shown looking concerned telling her that Danny had kingly duties to attend to. Paperwork to handle the boring stuff. Jazz was happy to spend the next week coming to Sam’s to hang out with her. She wasn’t going to just leave before properly saying goodbye to Danny. Especially since Jazz was going to be heading off to Gotham U the following month. She had a full-ride scholarship. Jazz had refused any help from her parents.
Ellie had some new guidelines for the next year or two. Besides monthly in-person visits, a weekly call, and a minimum of a text a day she was back to exploring the world.
The first three home visits with Danny were some of the most exciting times she’s had. Danny’s rouges were super fun to help take down. Danny just told her she could go feral on them. It only took two home visits for them to flee from her.
His parents were a whole different breed. He’s warned her about the whole tear him apart molecule by molecule thing. But man, this was something else. The two even managed to get a hit on her.
On her next visit, only the box ghost was in town. Danny just let her deal with him. She made it last it would. Danny tended to keep their visit calm when he could. Go get food at the nasty burger, mini golf, and jazz-approved events. Jazz wanted them to have a healthy bond. Not one based on bashing in enemies.
It was that time of the month. Her visit day. She had stories to tell him. Ellie had met actual Heroes while she had been out and about. They tried to ask her a bunch of questions, but she honestly didn’t want to answer. Ellie would just turn invisible and stop breathing. If that didn’t help, she just traveled under the ground. Not in caves just underneath the ground. She had intangibility for a reason. Even figuring out how to maintain her temperature with the core. She could match the temperature of the air around her if it was cooler than 75 degrees. Danny’s ice core only allowed her to go lower than her standing body temp. She was super excited about the new use of his powers and one of the heroes was even an alien. Danny was going to flip out.
Ellie was so caught up in grabbing her phone to tell Danny she was here to notice the Fenton parents watching her fly in. Her quick look around revealed nothing. The flash of white happened, slowly transforming back into her human half.
Something hit her. It forced her to the ground. It was worse than when she was destabilizing. Her eyes began to shut. The last thing she saw was the blue and orange lab suits.
**
It had been three hours since Ellie and he was meant to meet up. Danny had a day planned at Sam’s house. It was her 7th visit. The gang was going to have a movie marathon. All four of them. Now Ellie isn’t the best at showing up on time. Normally she’s only an hour or so late and always gives a heads-up.
No, he is not overbearing despite Ellies claims. Its bad enough to let a twelve-year-old be on her own. She’s nearly turned to goo in front of him twice. He has every right to be concerned with her well-being. Especially since she now had a part of his core. While there were no physical effects it did put her at risk. Ellie could be a target to anyone who wanted to get one up on the Ghost King. If it was possible, he would keep her in Amity with them. There were two problems with that. Ellie herself and then his parents. Ellie would never want to be stuck in Amity, she’s a free spirit. A small town would never be enough for her.
Then there were his parents. It was bad enough they managed to shoot her once. Now they were hellbent on getting the ghost girl as well.  Overall, their whole ghost-hunting thing had spiraled. They were desperate to get their hand on a specimen. Danny’s been doing a lot of damage control.
The council was getting antsy. The whole situation was spiraling. The anti-ecto acts were in Congress now. All he can do is hope they don’t pass. Seeing how the GIW has been moving it seemed to be guaranteed. The group had no issues acting early. The last 3 months had been a disaster. Balancing being king, high school, his parent's babysitter, and stopping the GIW's attempts have not left time for much.
Today was not a day to worry about what his parents or the stupid ghost council wanted. He was going to get Ellie and start the movie night. Jazz was even willing to pop in via the web from her dorm room.
There were no responses to any of his messages. Now was a time to be concerned. It's almost hour four. Drastic times meant drastic measures. Did he have Tucker put a tracker in the phone they gave her? Yes. It was finally going to get used. He didn’t abuse the fact it was done. He did trust her.
He found the phone but not his little sister.
The phone was cracked.
On the ground.
Without her.
All he could do was hope this was some prank. It's not uncommon but, this would not be a good one. Ellie did lack a lot of social development. Vlad really didn’t program that in. Better to manipulate those who wouldn’t be able to tell and read him. That’s what this had to be right. Just some stupid prank to mess with him.
That’s it.
He’d go back to Sam’s, and she’d be there. Ready to laugh at him.
But she wasn’t.
The trio was on full alert now. Tucker was checking the tracker's history, pulling up cameras. The first place he was going to check was the GIW. They got a bug in their system a while back that makes rescues a breeze. Sam was taken a hands-on approach and would search Amity. Danny was going to go to Frostbite.
Danny promised he’d never take the infa-map again. Nothing was stopping him from asking. He’d beg if he had to. If they wanted him decked out in full regalia, he’d do it. Announce her as the princess that’s fine with him. Ellie won’t be pleased. She didn't even know.
The council wanted an announcement as it was such a big deal. A royal family was not common. There was only one other king who had one. Kingship was taken by the victor of a fight. The core of whoever took won then morphed. The ghost core slowly takes power from the previous king until the new core forms. Danny became king not as he was the sole combatant, but Pariah's Core after being resealed destabilized. It only latched on to him because he was the closest. It was a first.
He received all the Pariahs core at once. On top of his still-forming core. Danny giving up a piece of it before both melded could would lead to problems in the future.
Giving Ellie a part of the “kings” core, it made her part of the royal family. Becoming king meant taking power. Those after power in the afterlife didn’t typically have kids. She was the first official princess of the realm.
Danny refused to push any of the responsibilities on her. No official announcement had been made. If he had his way, there never would be. Once her core formed around his, Ellie would get to choose.
Danny didn’t notice his and Ellies phone next to Tucker as he left.
In record time he was outside Fentonworks. The ghost shield was on. Something wrong. He noticed the GAV was gone as well. Turning back human he headed in. Inside there wasn’t a note. Ever since Jazz was off at Gotham U his parents always left a note saying where they were. Booking it to the lab he got to the door. It was locked and the security system told him he was unauthorized to enter.
The shield was on. There was nothing to keep out. The lab was on lockdown.
They wouldn’t have.
Tucker had a built-in override to the lab. Activating it not only turned off the security system but the ghost shield as well.
Rushing to the lab he saw his worst fears come true.
There his little sister was. Strapped to a table, arms, and legs cuffed down. The cuffs glowing green had to be blocking her powers. Machines were connected to her. The beeps only taunted him.  The worst part was the fact she was fighting the restraints her mouth gagged.
Jack and Maddie had strapped and gagged a little human girl down.
His sister.

Hey, Lexx! Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💜
LEXIE THIS IS SO CUTE!
Okay I couldn't narrow it down so I'm adding a 6th fic akjnsdfksjnd. So here's my top 6 fics with some commentary because I'm extra af:
1: Everything Was White: After being accidentally revealed to the public and taken away by the government, Danny deals with the aftermath of his time with the GIW.
Yeah, this won't come as a surprise to many. This VERY angsty longfic sorta marked a turning point for me where I started taking writing more seriously, really looking at plot structures, doing research, interacting with other writers. I went into this with "I'll just do a twoshot cuz I suck and I'm not capable of writing much more," and seeing how far I've come in skill and confidence has honestly kept me totally enamored with this fic. I love that I can see my improvement as the fic's gone on. I've gone back and cleaned up the early chapters, and I can still see a distinct difference. Makes me very happy!
2: Morge: It was a beautiful day outside. The birds were singing, the flowers were blooming...a corpse was found in the woods.
This was my first Invisobang fic and also my first (and only? so far?) Outsider POV fic. I loved exploring the perspectives of Amity Park and Phantom from somewhat regular people who don't know much about ghosts. And, of course, writing Danny slowly losing it as the fic went on was a great bonus!
3: Transformation Troubles: A hit from one of Skulker's weapons leaves Danny temporarily unable to transform out of his ghost form. Unfortunately for him, he still has classes to attend.
This fic is just a vibe, honestly. It's a "guilty pleasure" category of DP fics that are few and far between (glitching powers, still has to go to class) but I absolutely inhale any chance I get to read one. College AU, post-reveal MY BELOVED real tea y'all. This basically came from me wanting a niche thing and going, "Fine, I'll write it myself!!"
4: and then he woke up: In his dreams, he woke up in his cell again.
This oneshot is similar to EWW where it's my take on what a realistic GIW recovery might look like. Aka, Danny Has A Bad Time. It's a very sad hurt/comfort fic, but I think it also represents a "level up" in my descriptions and pacing that I've been trying to employ more in recent fics.
5: Black and White Roses: When he died, he didn't get a memorial service. He didn't get the vigil, the flowers, the headstone. In fact, no one even found his body.
Dude idk man I just really love Valerie and Phantom's dynamic. Also, thought it'd be really interesting to write a full ghost AU fic, which it was, because as I was writing it I realized like hey, he'd have a corpse, and corpses are kinda freaky aren't they? Like how would you react if ur ghost friend was like "Hey yeah my corpse is over there." That'd be fucking nuts.
6: Birthmark: “No, it’s…” He trailed off, rubbing a hand over his face. His eyebrows were pinched and he looked almost sick. When he finally spoke, his voice was small. “They’re not tattoos.”
Lichtenberg HC my beloveddddd seriously I love it so much I am SO normal about it. That and Phantom and Valerie becoming friends fics. Literally so fucking normal guys. Just trust me bro.
Yeah 5 and 6 are so similar so I couldn't pick between them hahaha. But this is my current top fave fics!
I'm also REALLY excited to release all the stuff that I've been working on the past year this fall. Not tryna gas myself up here but I've been sitting on so much stuff since last NaNo and I'm just ahhhhh!

A DP x DC crossover. A what if went through my head. What if somebody from the DCU gets incomplete information about a Halfa, wants one, can’t reach them because they’re too far away in a different universe?
And decides- then we’ll make one (with the incomplete information they have) and control them! Because they come to the conclusion that halfas are pretty powerful. (Spoilers: They are in this AU!)
So the prompt:
Somebody from DC researching different universes finds out about halfas - specifically the most recent entity (Danny, not that they now that) - ghost portals, the Infinite Realms, while lacking crucial details. What they pick up leads them to the belief that they could turn a human into a monster capable of adapting their strength and powers to anything.
So they kidnap Batman - as one epitome of what an average human without modifications., enhancements, metagene, etc. can achieve - and somehow brute reverse-engineer the transformation via ectoplasm. (Not Lazarus Waters.)
'Somehow' means that they don't replicate the exact details of Danny's accident. It’s simply impossible because they're in a different universe with different rules and there's various differences between Bruce and Danny.
He 'survives' as a halfa, because he clings to his love for his family and friends. He doesn't want to leave them hurt again, his children orphaned (once more) and his father lost of his son. That lets the universe-boundary-shattering metamorphosis take hold. His body is torn apart and put back together, ectoplasm infusing him.
It also fries his memories (temporarily). He only remembers that he has to 'protect' someone, with his focus being on the outcast and children. It’s not an obsession, more like the only lead he has in his worries. (There are no ghost obsessions in this AU.) He flees, frenzied in pain and lack of memories, and believing for the short-term future that he's dead so he's stuck in ghost form.
Not that anybody has these details at first because their experiment goes horribly wrong for these people as well as Bruce. Their memories get fried as well that they don't even remember their research on different universes or that they had Batman kidnapped. Any records were destroyed. The portal blew up.
Unfortunately it’s enough for those who paid for them to keep looking for Bruce.
It leaves Bruce's loved ones believe that these people might've killed him. There's simply too much of his blood on the scene and everything points to human experimentation.
Bruce drifts in the physical world and feels drawn to Gotham, where he becomes a helpful, protective cryptid.
Danny, in the ghostzone, feels a full-body shiver. He’s no Ghost King, will never be, but somehow he senses that something has happened.
Clockwork’s senses have alerted him to this and he’s grim.
Remember - halfas are powerful in the AU. Bruce has no idea what happened to him and is in a bad mental state from his half-death on top of his already existing trauma. He fears that his family is dead but doesn’t know and the uncertainty makes things worse for his mind.
Nobody has idea what he’ll be able to do because the way he became a halfa, his mental state, his experiences, his age, all differs from Danny.
I promise for this would be a happy ending, if bittersweet. Bruce died - he was changed in a way that can't be undone. Not to mention the side-effects as well as adapting to that he's a new species. His loved ones at least thought for a few weeks that he was completely gone.

Dentition
Here's what you need to know about ghostly dentition: For the first few years of unlife, the ghosts of humans have teeth of roughly the same size and shape as they did while alive. However, these are the ghostly equivalent of baby teeth. After a ghost has been dead for at least two years, but no more than five, their teeth will begin to change shape. Change shape, not fall out and be replaced. Ghost anatomy is much more plastic than that of a human. This process takes about one month, give or take. Additionally, if the ghost is one of the lucky few to become venomous, their venom sacs grow in at the same time. Once the process of growing the teeth and associated structures is complete, the fangs are retractable.
Here's what you need to know about half ghost dentition: Half ghosts undergo a similar process. Their human halves reflect the changes. However, they do lose their initial set of teeth to make room for their new ones.
Here's what you need to know about Danny Fenton: He is a half ghost. His luck is also incredible.
Not in a good way, of course.
.
Danny's whole mouth felt tender, and he didn't know why. The feeling had been building since yesterday morning, but, by this point, it had become almost unbearable. That, coupled with the growing desire to chew on and bite things, was slowly driving him insane.
"It almost sounds like you're teething," said Sam.
Danny grunted dubiously. He had all his adult teeth.
"I mean, it might be a ghost thing," clarified Sam.
"Or you could have burned your mouth on something without realizing it," offered Tucker. "Or you could be getting some canker sores?"
Danny shook his head. That's what he thought at first, when the pain had been limited to the roof of his mouth and a few places on his gums, but now it was everywhere.
Jazz, who was on spring break from college and driving the three of them home from school, made a face. "I hate to suggest this, but do you think Mom and Dad could have put something anti-ghost in our food?"
Danny groaned and let his head fall against the dashboard. It did him no good. In fact, jostling his face made his mouth ache even more. It would be like his parents to unintentionally and unknowingly poison him in the name of protecting him from ghosts.
"I'll cook tonight," said Jazz.
.
Despite Jazz cooking (and nothing coming to life!), Danny mostly pushed his food around his plate and avoided everyone's eyes. He wasn't sure if the pain killed his appetite, or if the idea of his food being poisoned did it. Either way, he wasn't hungry. He did, however, chew on the collar of his shirt until it was wet and disgusting.
Immediately after dinner, Danny slouched up the stairs and made a beeline for his room. He wanted to sleep this out, if at all possible.
He threw off his normal clothes, threw on his bedclothes, and collapsed, wrapping his covers around him and rolling over instead of climbing under his covers like a normal person. That was fine. He wasn't a normal person.
He went to sleep.
.
A dream about swimming ended when the thought that the water was only wet on his face crossed Danny's mind. Slowly, he pulled his eyes open, and his brain eventually processed the fact that (a) it was still dark out, and (b) his face was pressed into a truly prodigious amount of drool.
He sat up, the fabric of his pillowcase trying to stick to his face. He threw the pillow to the side, and walked to the bathroom to try and clean up a little before going back to sleep. Usually, Danny had pretty good night vision, to the point of being able to see in the dark, but his vision and brain were so fuzzy at the moment that he fumbled for the bathroom lights anyway, and hissed as the bright lights temporarily blinded him.
Finally, his eyes adjusted enough for him to look up, into the mirror, and his heart almost stopped.
He was covered in blood.
His hands flew up to cover his face as he stumbled back against the far wall. Yes, he was half-ghost and had technically died, that didn't make him immune to shock or particularly happy to see blood all over the side of his face. It hadn't been drool sticking him to the pillow. Not just drool, anyway. It had been blood.
Why was he covered in blood? Had he turned into a vampire in the night? Did he hurt someone? Were vampires based on half-ghosts? Considering Vlad's aesthetic...
No, wait. On second glance, the blood had a distinctly sparkly cast to it. He stepped closer to the mirror, and a shiver of relief work its way into his body. That shimmer was ectoplasm. It was his blood.
But why had he been bleeding? Maybe he had bitten himself.
Or, more likely, whatever the heck was going on with his mouth was reaching a new level of bad. His teeth, now that he was thinking about them and not the blood, hurt much worse than they had when he went to bed.
Hesitantly, he probed his front teeth with his fingers. They moved.
THEY MOVED.
.
Danny did not often sneak into his sister's room at night for advice, but 'not often' was a far cry from 'never.' Jazz wasn't surprised when he prodded her awake. Sleepy, yes, possibly just a little annoyed at waking up, though that vanished when she saw Danny's stricken face, but not surprised.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"I think I'm losing my teeth," said he little brother, eyes wide and a touch too bright in the dark.
Alright, that was unexpected. "What?"
"I woke up, and my teeth were bleeding, and now they're all loose." His voice wobbled.
"Oh," said Jazz, still trying to kick her brain into gear. "Um. Is it a ghost thing, do you think?"
"I don't know," moaned Danny. "Nobody talks to me about anything." He sniffed. "What am I supposed to do?"
That was a good question. What kinds of options did Danny have?
"Do you have any ghost friends you could talk to?" she asked.
"Maybe," said Danny. "But they're far away, and they don't really have human teeth."
Jazz refrained from asking what kind of teeth they did have. She'd known about Danny's ghost powers for over a year, now, and she still only knew a fraction of what he got up to.
"I know you're not going to like this, but, um, what about Vlad?" Danny gave her a horrified glare. "I mean, he knows more about ghosts and half ghosts than we do, and he won't want anyone, you know, examining you. Which is what is going to happen if your teeth fall out."
Danny wilted, and put his hand to his mouth. "I guess." He shook himself. "I woke up in a puddle of my own blood and drool. Mostly blood."
"Ah," said Jazz.
"I'm going to go now."
"He might not appreciate you waking him up in the middle of the night," warned Jazz.
"Vlad doesn't sleep," said Danny.
"I'm sorry," said Jazz, "is that, like, a real thing, or some kind of joke? I'm too tired to tell."
"He's too evil to sleep."
"Danny, really. Don't antagonize him when you want his help."
Danny put his arms around his knees and looked very small. "Okay," he said. "You're right. But what should I do until then? What if- What if one of my teeth really does fall out?"
That image was more disturbing than it had any right to be. "Just go to sleep, and if your teeth do start falling out... I guess we'll deal with it. I've heard putting them in a cup of milk and spit helps preserve them? So they can be re-implanted?"
"Oh," said Danny. "I guess that's good to know."
"Get some sleep," Jazz said again. "First thing tomorrow, I'll drive you to Vlad's."
"I'll just fly."
.
The conversation with Jazz had been painful. Talking should not be so painful. It sucked. It was the worst. And he was not able to get to sleep again.
As soon as the sun was up, Danny left to harass Vlad. Which was how his brain pronounced 'ask Vlad for help.'
He could hardly believe he was doing this. It was so stupid. Vlad hated him, he wasn't going to help. Maybe he should ask Clockwork, or make the flight to the Far Frozen, even if he wouldn't be able to put up a good fight against a ghost in this state. After all, Vlad would probably try to fight him. At least random ghosts in the Ghost Zone might leave him alone.
Yeah, he didn't believe that either.
He set down right outside Vlad's front gates, invisibly, not sure if he should just phase in, or if he should press the buzzer and wait outside. Usually when he came to Vlad's he was with his parents, Vlad had dragged him there, or they were already in the middle of a fight. He wasn't sure how to... petition Vlad, and that was what he was doing.
Danny pressed the buzzer. Ancients, he hoped Vlad was here and not in Colorado or Wisconsin.
"What?" came the short, clipped, reply. Clearly, Vlad was annoyed at being bothered so early in the morning.
"It's Danny," said Danny. "I need to talk to you about something."
There was a long silence, and Danny wondered if Vlad had chosen to ignore him.
"Daniel." The smoothness of Vlad's tone was broken only by the crackle of the intercom. "What an unexpected surprise. Do come in. I am in my dining room, and I am sure you can find your way."
Given permission, Danny phased through the gates and then the walls of Vlad's mansion. The dining room was, as Vlad had intimated, easy to find, and Danny dropped his invisibility.
Vlad did not look up from his breakfast, which seemed to consist of some kind of complicated omelette. At the smell, Danny's stomach growled. He hadn't a full meal since this time yesterday.
"So," said Vlad. "To what do I owe this pleasure, Daniel?"
Danny looked up at Vlad, then away, then at Vlad again, then away. He glared at Vlad's clean, shiny floor.
"Well, I do hope you haven't come because some cat ghost stole your tongue," said Vlad, sarcastically.
"My teeth are falling out," said Danny. They were certainly looser than yesterday.
Vlad stared at Danny for several heartbeats, then started laughing. He actually slapped the table a few times. Danny glared. If he knew how to do the eye laser thing, Vlad would be on fire.
"Oh, my dear boy," said Vlad, "forgive me. Has no one told you about ghost fangs?" He suppressed a snicker with his hand.
"No," said Danny.
"Well, that's quite an oversight in your education, isn't it? If you had accepted my offer..." he trailed off suggestively, almost purring.
Danny tried to purse his lips, but winced as doing so pushed his front teeth back.
Vlad smirked, and gave him a quick rundown of how teeth developed in the recently dead. "... of course, he finished. Half-ghosts like us are different. We, unlike them, do lose our original teeth. But you'll be glad to know the whole ordeal will be over in a month."
"A month? My teeth won't grow back for a month? Vlad, I have school! I can't hide that I don't have any teeth for a month!"
"Doesn't your spring break start today?" asked Vlad patting his lips with a napkin.
"What does that matter if this will last a month?"
"Calm down, boy. Your most visible teeth should regrow themselves in a week." Vlad pushed his food aside. "Of course, those will include your fangs, and part of why this takes a month is that the last molars and the muscles and bones involved in retracting and extending the fangs are developing. Nevertheless, that shouldn't be an issue so long as you avoid talking and eating around people less oblivious than your father."
"Hey!"
"Or perhaps you could convince people that you are wearing novelty fangs. Your friend Samantha enjoys that kind of thing, correct?"
"It's Sam," grumbled Danny, resenting the fact that Vlad was giving him good advice. "What about before my front teeth grow back in?" he asked. He didn't want to refer to any of his teeth as fangs. He didn't even want to think about having fangs.
(Hair made of fire and eyes as red as fresh blood flickered in his mind's eye.)
"Well, as I said, you're on spring break. Wouldn't this be a wonderful time to take advantage of, say, an internship opportunity with your beloved godfather?"
"I'm sorry, what? My what?"
"Me, Daniel. I'm offering to let you stay with me until your teeth have grown in enough to pass muster."
"Absolutely not," said Danny.
Vlad scoffed, and leaned back in his chair. "Don't mistake me. I'm not doing this out of some misplaced sense of altruism. I don't want anyone looking too closely at your anatomy."
"Gross."
Vlad ignored the comment. "If you are found out, the best defense of my identity, that no one knows half ghosts are possible, vanishes. This is merely enlightened self-interest. Does that make you feel better?"
Oddly enough, it did.
"Good. Now," he made a little shooing motion with his hands, "go home. I will make arrangements with your parents."
.
Danny arrived on Vlad's doorstep, his father in tow, making a valiant but ultimately futile attempt to avoid playing with his now very loose front teeth.
"V-man!" exclaimed Jack, exploding through the door without bothering to knock. "It's been forever!"
"It's been two days, Jack," said Vlad, repressively. He had, wisely, been waiting at the top of the wide stairs that led to the mansion's second floor.
"But it feels like so much longer!"
"I wish," muttered Vlad.
Jack, undeterred ran up the stairs and hugged Vlad.
"Yes, yes," said Vlad, strained, "very good. Now, Jack, Daniel and I have a very busy day ahead of us. I'm afraid we must be off at once."
"Aw, already?"
"My pilot doesn't like waiting."
Danny leveled a baleful glare at Vlad. The man hadn't mentioned anything about leaving Amity Park.
Jack skipped out the door, and the GAV sped off.
"Oh, do stop looking at me like that," said Vlad. "We aren't leaving your precious town, although I'm sure it would survive just fine without you."
"Then why-?"
"Well, we certainly couldn't have your parents dropping in at all hours to check up on you, could we?" Vlad shuddered dramatically. "In any case, I have your room made up. Follow me."
Danny picked up his luggage, no longer pretending he found it heavy now that his father wasn't around to see, and trudged up the stairs after Vlad.
The room was nice. Too nice. A little too space-themed for his peace of mind as well, with the stars on the walls, spangled bed sheets, and planet-shaped lamps on the bedside tables. The game console in the corner had the effect of making the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.
"Please tell me you set up this room in the last two days."
"Don't be ridiculous. I've had this room decorated like this since I moved in. I had hoped you would come to your senses."
"My senses. Right," said Danny, trying to decide if it was too late to hide at Sam's for a week. Sadly, it probably was.
"Well, get your things put away, and meet me downstairs for brunch in half an hour. I doubt you've eaten much since we last spoke." Vlad strode out of the room, not looking back.
Danny stared after him, unsure if he should feel touched or creeped out. Both, maybe.
Finally, he sighed and heaved the suitcase up onto the bed. He had asked for this, he reminded himself. Not the bedroom. But Vlad's help.
If there had been any other friendly ghosts within flying distance...
Okay, he'd still have needed the cover, and Jazz, Sam, and Tucker could only do so much.
Danny finished unpacking in a few minutes. He hadn't brought a whole lot of stuff with him. Just enough clothing to last a week without washing, the thermos, some homework, the Spector Deflector, the collapsible version of the Boo-Staff, some Fenton Sleeping Bag Capsules, in case he had to run and spend the remainder of spring break roughing it in the woods.
Okay, he didn't think he'd have to do that, otherwise he wouldn't be trusting Vlad even this far, but it was better to be safe.
He walked downstairs, slowly, then started to look for the kitchen, vaguely worried about being ambushed. He wasn't. Point for Vlad.
Another point for Vlad - He was actually cooking.
"I doubt you want to eat anything too tough at the moment," said Vlad, "although once your new teeth grow in, you'll be gnawing on things before you know it. So, I'm making eggs. You aren't allergic to anything?"
"Not other than blood blossoms, no."
Vlad sighed and tipped the eggs he was frying onto a plate. "Shall we let bygones be bygones, little badger? At least for the duration of our little truce? For the sake of your problem, if nothing else."
Danny's lips twitched, sending a wave of pain across his face. "Yeah, okay," he said. He reached out for the eggs.
Vlad passed him the plate. "I'd like to do some scans of your teeth, when you're done."
"Why?" asked Danny.
"So suspicious," said Vlad. "Remember, you asked for my help."
"Last time you wanted to do scans of me, you were trying to clone me."
"This is different," said Vlad. "Although, I do wonder if Danielle will be losing her teeth, soon. Something for you to watch out for, hm?"
"What do you want to do the scans for, anyway?" asked Danny, picking up a fork.
"Oh, the usual. Making sure your teeth are growing in properly, checking if you'll be venomous, that kind of thing."
Danny dropped the fork. "That's an option?"
Vlad smirked. "Oh, it isn't very likely, but... You do have very odd luck, Daniel."
And didn't Danny know it.
"I'll pass on the scans."
"Really?"
"Cloning," Danny pointed out.
Vlad sighed. "I suppose you have something of a point. Let's make a deal. If I haven't done anything sinister by the middle of the week, you get those scans. It will, after all, be much harder for me to help you without them."
Danny frowned. "I didn't know that you were going to 'help' me beyond, you know. Hiding me."
"Please, Daniel. I'm trying to convince you to join me. I'm hardly going to deny you medical care while you're here. Besides, if you go back to your parents looking like a trainwreck, I'm the one who will get in trouble. Assuming they notice, of course."
Well... when he put it like that... "You're awful," said Danny.
"And yet, here we are. So, what is your decision?"
Danny sighed. "I'll think about it."

The director and producer Norman Jewison, who has died aged 97, had a career dedicated for the most part to making films that, while entertaining, included socio-political content. His visual flair, especially in the use of colour, spot-on casting and intelligent use of music, enabled him to raise sometimes thin stories into highly watchable films.
He hit the high spot critically and commercially with In the Heat of the Night (1967), which starred Sidney Poitier as a northern US city police detective temporarily held up in a small southern town and Rod Steiger as the local sheriff confronted with the murder of a wealthy industrialist. The detective mystery plot was perhaps mainly the vehicle for an enactment of racial prejudices and hostilities culminating in a grudging respect on both sides, but it worked well. The final scene, much of it improvised, in which the two men indulge in something approaching a personal conversation, was both moving and revealing.
The film won five Academy awards – for best picture, best adapted screenplay, best editing, best sound and, for Steiger, best actor – and gave Jewison the first of his three best director nominations; the others were for Fiddler on the Roof, his 1971 adaptation of the Broadway musical, and the romantic comedy Moonstruck (1987). In 1999 Jewison was the winner of the Irving G Thalberg memorial award from the academy for “a consistently high quality of motion picture production”.
The son of Dorothy (nee Weaver) and Percy Jewison, he was born and brought up in Toronto, Ontario, where his father ran a shop and post office. Educated at the Malvern Collegiate Institute, a Toronto high school, Jewison studied the piano and music theory at the Royal Conservatory in the city, and served in the Canadian navy during the second world war. On discharge, he went to the University of Toronto, paying his way by working at a variety of jobs, including driving a taxi and occasional acting.
After graduating with a bachelor of arts degree, in 1950 he set off with $140 on a tramp steamer to the UK, where he landed a job with the BBC, acting and writing scripts. On his return to Canada two years later, he joined the rapidly expanding television industry, producing and directing variety shows for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Jewison was spotted by the William Morris talent agency and invited to New York, where he signed with CBS and was given the unenviable task of rescuing the once successful show Your Hit Parade, which was by then displaying signs of terminal decline. He revamped the entire production and took it back to the top of the ratings. He directed episodes of the variety show Big Party and The Andy Williams Show, and specials for Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Harry Belafonte, Jackie Gleason and Danny Kaye.
On the Belafonte special, Jewison had white chains dangling above the stage, an image that displeased many southern TV stations, which refused to screen the show. This was the first indication of his stance on racism.
Success brought him to the notice of Tony Curtis, who had his own production company at Universal, and Jewison began a three-year contract with 40 Pounds of Trouble (1962), starring Curtis. This was followed by the likable but light Doris Day comedies The Thrill of It All (1963), Send Me No Flowers (1964) and The Art of Love (1965).
In 1965 he got out of his contract to make the first film of his choice, MGM’s The Cincinnati Kid, starring Steve McQueen (the Kid) and Edward G Robinson (the Man) and centring on a professional poker game between the old master and the young challenger. He took over the project from Sam Peckinpah, tore up the original script by Paddy Chayefsky and Ring Lardner, and commissioned Terry Southern, the result getting him noticed as a more than competent studio director.
In 1966 he made the beguiling but commercially unsuccessful comedy The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming, about a Russian submarine stranded off the coast of Cape Cod. This was at the height of the cold war and gained him a reputation for being a “Canadian pinko”, although it was nominated for a best picture Oscar.
In the Heat of the Night was followed by The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) in which McQueen and Faye Dunaway played thief and insurance investigator respectively and engaged in a chess game that evolved into one of the longest onscreen kisses, as the camera swirls around and around above their heads. The theme song, The Windmills of Your Mind, was a hit and the film a success.
Fiddler on the Roof, with a silk stocking placed by Jewison across the camera lens to provide an earth-toned quality, won Oscars for cinematography, music and sound, and a nomination for Chaim Topol in his signature role of Tevye.
Jesus Christ Superstar (1973), his adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera, and Rollerball (1975), starring James Caan, were followed by F.I.S.T. (1978), a tale of union corruption starring Sylvester Stallone as an idealistic young organiser who sells out, and And Justice for All (1979), starring Al Pacino, a deeply ironic portrayal of the legal world.
A Soldier’s Story (1985), based on the Pulitzer prize-winning play and including an early performance from Denzel Washington, dealt with black soldiers who risked their lives “in defence of a republic which didn’t even guarantee them their rights”, and some of whom had internalised the white man’s vision of them.
Moonstruck, a somewhat daft love story but a tremendous box office success and for the most part a critical one, won the Silver Bear and best director for Jewison at the Berlin film festival and was nominated for six Oscars, winning for best screenplay, best actress for Cher and best supporting actress for Olympia Dukakis.
Then came Other People’s Money (1991), a caustic and amusing comedy on the new world of corporate finance and takeovers, in which Danny DeVito played a money hungry vulture, made largely in response to Reagan’s era of deregulation, and The Hurricane (1999) in which Jewison again worked with Washington, who played the real life boxer Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, falsely convicted of a triple murder and imprisoned for years before the conviction was quashed. The latter film aroused controversy over its alleged manipulation of some facts and, despite its undoubted qualities, this fracas probably contributed to it being commercially disappointing.
In the early 1990s, Jewison had begun preparations for a film on the life of Malcolm X, and had secured Washington to play the title role, when Spike Lee gave his strongly expressed opinion that only a black film-maker could make this story. The two met, and Jewison handed over the film to Lee.
Jewison’s last film, The Statement (2003), starred Michael Caine as a Nazi war criminal on the run. He was also producer for films including The Landlord (1970), The Dogs of War (1980), Iceman (1984) and The January Man (1989).
He had returned to Canada in 1978, living on a ranch north of Toronto with his wife Dixie, whom he had married in 1953. There he reared Hereford cattle, grew tulips and produced his own-label maple syrup. In 1988 he founded the Canadian Centre for Advanced Film Studies, now known as the Canadian Film Centre, in Toronto.
He was a confirmed liberal, a man of integrity who turned in his coveted green card in protest at the Vietnam war and saw film not only as entertainment but also as a conduit for raising serious issues.
Dixie (Margaret Dixon) died in 2004. In 2010 he married Lynne St David, who survives him, as do two sons, Kevin and Michael, and a daughter, Jennifer, from his first marriage.

Owen's Timeline (Part 3 ~ Teenager Continued...)
Tumblr media
And here we have Part 3 of Owen's timeline basically summarizing the rest of the most important events so far in his first story arc.
Owen senses something is amiss about their visitor and rushes down to warn Vlad, horrified to find that it's the same Wraith in disguise who tried to kill him too that fateful day. At the same time Vlad realizes she must have killed the investigator at some point to get those files so she could personally deliver them to Vlad, thereby getting a shot at Owen again too.
Owen's powers start going off wildly in response to seeing his parents murderer and this time the power is so concentrated even Vlad can see those butterflies swarming around him to create a barrier. Taking advantage of the distraction while the Wraith is fixated on Owen -who isn't acting like himself- Vlad attacks her. Then Danny shows up after using Vlad's ghost portal as a shortcut inside and lends Vlad a hand keeping the Wraith busy.
Owen's consciousness is temporarily taken over by the collective memories of all his past lives and tells Danny about Revenants/Living Ghosts who are people who have died but returned to life again.
He also mentions how Danny is “marked by Death” too which is an important detail to keep in mind for later.
Lastly this entity temporarily awakens Danny's ice powers from within his ghost core which he uses to help pin down the Wraith long enough for Owen to banish it.
After the fight Danny tells Vlad about the occult website with haunted photos on it, one of which happens to be of Azrael/Kurst and Owen.
While staying at the Regal Hotel Vlad and Owen get a call about ravens circling the mansion who were most likely called there by Owen's Necromancy powers but Vlad refused to go back to make sure of that since they might be spies working for Azrael/Kurst. (Note: Owen will get his own Familiar later on though.) Also Vlad was half right, some of them were spies and helped track down Eris so he could hold her hostage and entice Owen to come looking for her.
Two days later they go back to the mansion and that night Owen discovers another new power, the ability to use astral projection to separate his soul/consciousness from his body while his body is still alive.
The next day Owen calls Danny and finds out Azrael's name, a part of him unconsciously remembering that's actually the name of an Angel of Death and not his real one which we later find out is actually Kurst.
Owen confronts Vlad shortly after for not telling him Eris had been reported missing. They sort things out then decide to visit Salem in search for answers, hoping to find Eris too.
As soon as Vlad and Owen get there they discover the entire town has been put to sleep by Nocturne, the Ghost of Sleep. Vlad takes Owen back to his childhood home there to escape notice. And while there Owen starts to wonder if his mother knew more about their family ties to necromancy than she let on before she died.
Owen suggests summoning Nocturne to save them both a lot of time and effort wandering around Salem, insisting that the sooner they get the town back to normal the sooner they can get back to searching for Eris and answers about his connection to Azrael
The summoning works but sadly Nocturne breaks free due to Owen's inexperience and Vlad gets knocked out from a nasty blow to the head. Meanwhile Owen astral projects out of his body to escape and takes refuge in his mother's antique shop. There he's found by Eris who managed to escape from Azrael earlier by magically transforming into a cat and she hangs up on his call to Danny asking for help, insisting on telling him the truth about herself at last.
Danny, Sam, and Tucker manage to convince Frostbite to let them borrow the Infimap to reach Salem sooner via a nearby ghost portal and make it to the antique store just before Owen's spirit is forced to return to his body.
Meanwhile Vlad is trapped in a dream until he's shocked awake by it taking a very sudden dark turn and sees the aftermath of Azrael controlling Owen and making him use his powers to utterly defeat Nocturne before Danny and the rest of the gang get there.
Owen wakes up inside some sort of ritual chamber and meets Azrael again face to face who tells him everything. About how they were friends in his past life and made a blood pact as children that has kept them connected all these years, making Azrael a ghost while Owen was reincarnated into who he is now 400 years later.
Azrael tells Owen they're going to destroy the council after his awakening once they renew their blood pact. But Owen remembers the tracker Vlad gave him and uses it to give the others a heads up to where he is.
While Vlad and Danny confront Azrael, Sam and Tucker sneak down to Owen's location but unfortunately are unable to free him and he ends up dangerously close to dying, meeting a Shadow of Death who reveals his destiny to stop Lilith, Azrael's real name, Kurst, and Death's part in creating the Ghost Zone to protect ghosts from becoming one of her Wraiths and destroying the living world.
Sam manages to resuscitate Owen after he had stopped breathing and he rushes off to confront Kurst, saving Vlad's life and then using the same dagger that Kurst killed him with in his past life after being tricked by the council to remake their pact but on his terms, not Kurst's. This releases an incomplete Wraith from Kurst's heart which Owen destroys by incinerating it's core with his now fully awakened necromancer powers.
Two days later Owen wakes up and Vlad tells him about his plans to officially adopt him and help solve the rest of this mystery about the council's schemes and the master of the Wraiths which Owen hasn't told Vlad anything about yet since they've been through enough recently without adding more fuel to the fire so to speak.
Then they pay Owen's parents a visit at the graveyard before heading back to Wisconsin to prepare for the charity event.
Eris lays low at the mansion though since she's still considered a missing person and doesn't want to work for the council anymore after learning what they did to Kurst and Owen 400 years ago.
The charity event starts off smoothly until social workers come for Owen, telling them the director of Mistveil has been arrested because he's suspected to be behind a bunch of recent kidnappings so they have to take him into protective custody. They have until after the event is over so Vlad asks Danny for help again searching for clues about what's really going on.
They soon discover through the combined efforts of Eris's shadow along with Danny, Sam, Tucker, and a vision from Owen that seven people had snuck into the building who had been given orders by one of the council members to capture Owen along with several other children from Mistveil suspected of being gifted as well. They even mistook Danny as one of them earlier and tried to corner him but they got away.
After leaving Owen in their care for the time being Vlad tracks down four of the impostors who attempt to force the social workers to leave the building while posing as fake security guards. Vlad fights against their magic and wins, immediately teleporting to where Owen and the others are to help them detain the final three intruders.
Once the intruders are arrested Vlad convinces the police to send patrols to keep an eye on the Mistveil kids for their protection instead of sending them to a shelter so whoever is already staying in a foster home won't have to deal with the stress of unnecessarily being taken away from a familiar setting, promising to hire more security in his mansion for Owen too.
His timeline ends there for now but I'll make a Part 4 of this once the sequel is finished!

I just sat up all night praying that he won’t die.
Danny offers himself as help to Andy on the farm. It’s a new day and DI Keysell is once again keeping an eagle’s eye on Andy and Robert. Alan and Rodney check on Jack via Robert who is clearly exhausted at this point but Rodney manages to lighten the mood at least temporarily. Jack’s doctor easily persuades Keysell to leave the room post haste. Jack begins to stir.

(Read part one first.)
Tim sits on the couch with his legs folded under him. He bounces a knee to try to keep himself calm as he stares at the body strewn on the brown chaise cushion opposite him.
Unconscious body. Not dead body. They are pretty cold, though. No matter what Tim does to warm them up or wake them. But they’re breathing. A little. Should he get them to a hospital? Is there even a hospital to go to? Maybe if he went back--just for a second. He could dump them there and run. Of course, they’ll talk when they wake up. “It’s simple, nurse. Me, a superhero person, almost died in this crazy magic nowhere house I found. The guy there fed me crappy eggs, erased the stairs, morphed into a smurf, and then told me his legal name.” Smooth move, Turner. That won’t raise any alarms.
He could make them not tell. But. No. He really shouldn’t. It’d probably just get him in more trouble in the long run, anyway.
He’s been dancing around the point with this argument for an hour.
It’s too late. He’s already toast.
Tim looks at the body. They’re wearing some school gym shirt. Some jeans. Sneakers. Black hair. Patchy stubble. Zit marks.
They were never here to hurt him. They’re just… some dude. Who got lost. Weird powers or not.
Tim’s guts wind up with guilt. He rubs his face.
The body’s foot twitches. It hasn’t done that so far.
Tim leans forward and raises a pointer finger, then hesitates.
He pokes the foot.
The guest’s head jerks up, along with the rest of them. About a foot off the couch, with hangtime. They pull themself back down when they see Tim.
Tim breathes a huge sigh of relief.
His guest’s eyes dart around the room before noticing that he’s lost his weird glowy clothes.
“Yeah you fainted,” Tim throws out. “You didn’t look hurt but–I mean you’re not hurt, are you?”
“No, I think I’m okay,” the guest replies slowly.
“Good. Things got kind of scary for a second there. Hey, how did you do the whole quick change trick?”
The guest glances away with their mouth pressed in frustration.
“It’s a secret. Nobody’s supposed to see it happen.” They take a phone out of their pocket and start trying to get it to work.
“Oh. Then, don’t worry. Never happened.” Tim waves a hand dismissively.
The guest looks up.
“Really?”
Tim nods.
“Dude, I tried to shoot you.”
Tim shrugs.
“That phone’s probably dead, by the way,” he remarks, not skipping a beat. “And you might need another nap. I went out there once, and I wound up eating half the food in the house and sleeping all day. I think it uses cool shiny stuff to lure people into it, but it doesn’t work if you just use a lasso.” Tim swallows his nerves. “You probably came here from somewhere else, and you were really confused and sick, and I just made that worse by being a cagey jerk. And I’m really sorry.”
His guest puts the phone away and sits up.
“It’s fine. I’ve had much worse, trust me. Where are we, though--really?”
“This is my house. I made it.”
“Yeah, but where is it?”
“Well, it’s hard to explain, but–it’s a pocket in space. Temporarily. I’m the one who’s just passing through. I really wasn’t trying to scare you. I’m just not that good at using… this stuff I have. I can’t even get food to taste right. Or get this to stop.” He points at his hair, which has slowed to a lazy gradient of yellow, blue, and green.
“Why’d you make your house into a labyrinth?”
“I dunno. I was just copying stuff out of a magazine, and I kept needing more room. But seriously. If I don’t tell anybody about you, you can’t tell anybody about me or my house.” He gets up on his knees and puts his hands together in plea. “I would be so, so screwed.”
The guest smirks sympathetically.
“Deal. Uh, what was your name again?”
“It’s Tim. He/him.”
They extend a hand to shake.
“Same here. I’m Danny. Danny Phantom, professionally.”
Tim takes it firmly.
“That’s a rad name! I guess you see weird stuff like this all the time, huh?”
“Oh, yeah. Especially out here. I ran into a crab monster that almost took my head off.”
“There are monsters in the black void thing?”
“No, no. In the Ghost Zone.”
“The...”
"The big green place attached to the real world. I can’t imagine how anything could survive in the trench I fell into.”
Tim goes numb.
“...You okay?”
“I’VE BEEN SITTING HERE FISHING FOR MONTHS, AND THERE WAS A WHOLE WORLD JUST OUTSIDE THE BLACK PART?! ALSO–GHOSTS? YOU’RE A GHOST?!” Tim claps a hand over his mouth. “Ohh. That was the secret, wasn’t it?”
Danny chuckles.
“Well, I kinda gave it away,” he admits. “I’m half ghost. Er, a cross-dimensional mutant, depending on how you look at it.”
“That’s the coolest thing I’ve ever heard.”
“But you must be, too. How else could you do stuff like this?” Danny gestures at the pitcher still on the table.
Tim sits back and folds his arms defensively. His hair darkens to magenta.
“I–I’m not. I mean, I’m not super sure I know much of anything about this, anymore. But I can’t tell you any of what I do know. If I say too much, it’ll raise a red flag, and some guys will find me who are trying to take me away and wipe my memory. Or throw me in jail. Prob’ly both.” He rubs his elbows nervously. “Pretty sure I’m not dead, though.”
Danny’s eyebrows knit.
“Are these guys government agents in suits?”
Tim shakes his head.
“Uh. Well. Sometimes. They could technically look like anything, but the ones at the top usually just wear robes.”
“Are they ancient judgemental blobs of goop with a big eye in the middle?”
“Uh, the first and second things, yes. Third and fourth things, no.”
“Huh.”
Tim looks down and catches himself picking at his fingernails. There are little chips of lime green paint on the sofa cushion. He opens a hand, and a thick rubber band appears out of thin air in a tiny puff of dust.
Danny winces, fighting a sneeze.
“That’s it. That’s what’s been bugging me,” he exclaims, rubbing his nose with a wrist. “It definitely doesn’t feel like ectoplasm.”
Tim winds the rubber band around his fingers, looking nervous.
“Are they wormholes?” Danny asks.
“No.”
“But it’s memetic, isn’t it?”
“I don’t know what that is.”
“Is it a photon thing?”
“Stop guessing!”
“Okay, okay. Sorry. Can you at least tell me where you’re from?”
“Somewhere else,” Tim answers quickly.
Danny takes a second to process the meaning.
“And there’s more than one somewhere else?”
“Uh-huh. Lots more.”
Danny rubs his forehead.
“Okay. Sure, I can deal with that,” he mutters with discomfort.
“Honest, it’s nothing to worry about. I’m not planning on being here long. I can drop you off wherever you want, and you can go back to doing your thing.”
Danny considers. He doesn’t get far. His head has gone back to swimming.
“Who am I kidding? I’m not going anywhere like this. I probably couldn’t even fly straight if I tried.”
“That’s fine. You can stay if you want.” Tim pulls the rubber band down to his wrist and musters a question. “In… in that case, you think you could tell me more about the ghost stuff?”
“Uh, sure.”
~
It turns out that there’s quite a lot to tell. Danny goes on nostalgically about the days when he, Sam, and Tucker were stumbling their way through their first year or two of ghost encounters.
The whole era is a little cringeworthy for Danny to look back on, with all the close calls and petty mistakes. At the same time, he can’t help but feel the sweeping moments of triumph at the size they were when he was so small and outmatched. Listing off all the enemies they faced is staggering even to him. He even remembers a few of his best one-liners in combat. He keeps waiting for Tim to lose interest, but his host only gets more enraptured as the tale goes on. Danny’s already feeling better, too. Lucky, since he has to stand up in order to fully animate the time a legion of bayonet-wielding undead soldiers swept through Amity Park with a headless chain of commanders at their heels. Tim holds his knees close to his chest with eyes fixed forward. He only flinches at the moment where an ear splitting cannon shot ripped through the sky–and nearly Danny.
The later years were different. Danny and his friends weren’t just beating back monsters and dead guys anymore. As they grew closer with ghosts, enemies became allies and allies became friends. There was still no shortage of rowdy ghosts to wrangle, but it more often came down to unraveling the circumstances that put them there, leading to bizarre new discoveries about the Ghost Zone’s lore and inhabitants. The really tough cases usually took the form of corrupt officials, paranoid vigilantes, and the ever-growing presence of the Guys In White. Danny spends so many days and nights on patrol now that the Ghost Zone feels like the only place he can relax.
“Geez. How do you find time to sleep?” Tim asks.
“I don’t need to anymore. I think this is the first nap I’ve had in a couple months.”
“Is that a normal ghost thing?”
“Yes,” Danny replies, visibly unsure if that’s true.
“Aren’t your friends around to help you?”
“They were, up until last year.” There’s something sorrowful in his delivery.
Tim’s brows knit with disbelief.
“They didn’t just up and quit, did they?”
“No! They only agreed to let it go because I had it handled. The stakes got bigger so I got tougher, and they’re… still just human, y’know? I can’t blame them for wanting to move on.” Again, Danny looks a little less than sure of his words. “The truth is, I’m trying to find a way to hang it up, too.”
Tim sits bolt upright.
“Why?!” His hair turns orange.
“Because I’m not a kid anymore. Sam and Tucker are already at college, and I’m stuck here trying to make sure the whole town doesn’t get overrun.”
“Can’t you just go to a college nearby?” Tim asks blankly.
“That’s not the point,” Danny insists. “I told Tucker I’d catch up with him next semester in California, and I have zero time to do the long-distance thing with Sam, and–I dunno, maybe the three of us could pick back up where we left off after we graduate. But I can’t just let myself get left behind playing superhero.”
“Bullshit!” Tim exclaims, leaping to his feet on the cushions and pointing accusatorily. He retracts his energy a little at Danny’s stung face. “Sorry. It’s just–You’re not ‘playing’ anything! You went through so much to get good at your powers. You don’t have to follow anybody’s stupid rules, and you’re not a huge jerk about it. Er, anymore, I guess.”
Danny glances away as Tim struggles to get his point together.
“And... god, there is so much stuff in life that’s boring and unfair. You’ve already got something that’s yours, and you can actually do something with it. That’s huge! You can’t just let it go. Who knows how long you’ll have it?”
Danny stares pensively at the floor.
Tim sits on the back of the couch with his mouth shut. His hair rapidly changes from shade to shade.
Danny has a seat too, suddenly feeling tired again. “It’s funny. Sam and Tucker were the ones who were into the whole ghost powers thing from the start. I thought it was a curse. I kept looking for ways to get rid of it so my life could go back to normal and I could grow up and go away to be an astronaut. But they kept saying how unique it made me and how I could use it to rise to the occasion. Even the score. Help people. And it turns out they were right. It’s a part of me, now. I can’t picture my life without it. Flying around the city at night’s only a chore when I keep getting shot at. Also, it turns out that the Ghost Zone actually has a lot in common with the celestial body formations and electromagnetic radiation patterns in deep space. Who knew?”
Tim’s eyes finally glaze over just a little.
“And that would be great and everything. It just means that the part where I got to do it with my best friends is over. And I feel like I wasted the last of the time I had chasing…”
“Ghosts.” Tim tries not to grin.
“Well, Guys in White, mostly.”
“Then why’d you say you had it handled?”
Danny sighs.
“I did,” he explains. “I spent the whole winter kicking the Guys out of town. But they came right back the next summer. They’re like vermin.”
“So? Kick ‘em out harder!”
“It’s not that easy.”
Danny goes on to describe how the government vans had rolled back into city limits with an arsenal of new technology and jurisdiction–signed off by some lackey of the Secretary of Defense with the aim of “containing and studying” the ghost presence in Amity Park and all surrounding areas. They immediately started setting up surveillance and restrictive measures on the townspeople. And Vlad, forever-mayor of the century, has been funding them and letting them do whatever they want as long as they stay out of his obviously evil, illegal, and ghost-related agenda. Anything to grant himself as much control over the city as possible. The Guys’ actual ghost-hunting exercises do little more than break down shaky truces and city blocks–all blamed on Danny, of course. The spirits they do catch wind up as creepy bioweapon experiments or unwilling informants. There are actually more ghost incidents than ever, as the animosity between the living and dead continues to climb. The ghosts are getting crafty–forming plans and alliances Danny can only ever catch the tail of. These days, it feels like he can never quite be sure if he’s being watched or who to trust, no matter where he is.
Tim continues to be blown away and takes a second to form a response.
“That’s crazy. What about that Red Huntress lady? And your sister?”
“Which one?”
“The clone one. Adopted one.”
“Dani.”
“Yeah. Are they gone too?”
“No, they’re still there. They were actually gonna take over for me after I left. But I can’t just leave them with the whole Guys mess.”
“Why not? There’s two of them and one of you.”
“Because,” Danny reluctantly answers.
Tim opens his hands expectantly.
“Okay, here’s the thing,” Danny explains. “Dani is a kid.”
“So were you.”
“Yeah, and I almost died. A lot. What the Guys are doing is worse than anything I faced when I was her age. Also, she’s not coming at this from where I did. She doesn’t go out to fight ghosts and train every night. She just wants to have a home and a family and show up to school about 80% of the time. Handling the Guys is my job. She shouldn’t have to deal with any of this.”
“But she does anyway cause she’s scared.”
“Exactly. And Va–Huntress has always been on the fence about what side she’s on. We started settling our differences a couple years ago, but she mostly did her own thing. She was more willing to team up after the Guys came back, which I thought was great. But then, I caught her letting out a bunch of random ghosts to go after a heavily guarded surveillance outpost.”
“I thought she didn’t like ghosts,” Tim interjects.
“She doesn’t. She can barely stand me. It was clearly an act of desperation.”
“So, they were also scared.”
“And so was I. Especially when I found out she was roping Dani into it. I tried to talk them out of it, but they wouldn’t listen. So I had to go in and–y’know–control the situation. But it turns out I couldn’t handle it either, and I screwed up and wound up kicking the Guys up to defcon-two. And now everything’s worse and neither of them are talking to me and all the ghosts and the people in town think I’m not on their side anymore.”
Danny doesn’t realize how fast he’s been talking until he’s out of words and breathless.
Tim stares, his chin in his hands.
Danny takes a long breath and continues steadily.
“The only way I can think to fix it is to do something really stupid like getting my hands on a cursed object or a ghost weapon with enough power to throw the whole operation out for good. Which would probably do something terrible to me or someone else. But I can’t risk letting the others get hurt because of me. And if I don’t do something soon, it’s just gonna keep getting worse.” He looks at Tim. “And now, I’m sure you’re deeply disappointed to find out what I really am–the world’s biggest screw-up. You probably are better off just getting out of here.”
Tim immediately cracks up laughing. He keeps laughing as Danny sinks into the couch. He sinks and sinks further, his back flat on the seat. Having surrendered himself to the cushions, Danny stares at the ceiling in placid humiliation as he waits for Tim’s wheezing to bring itself to a slow hitching halt.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. It’s just. Man, you have no idea.” Tim sucks air sharply to catch his breath. He sweeps the hair out of his eyes, now a garish mix of cyan and red. “Alright, if you’re the world’s biggest screw-up, then I am the screw-up center of the universe. My screw-up-itude transcends time and space. Cause I did exactly what you did, only worse.”
Danny doesn’t move more than an eyebrow, skeptical.
Tim clears his throat and continues.
“So, back home I had…” he stops to choose his words carefully. “Some friends. And some power. But it wasn’t mine. I was borrowing it. And they made all the bad stuff in my life a lot better.” He pauses again and glances around, waiting to be interrupted. He isn’t. “Honestly, I coulda made a lot of other people’s stuff better too, but I wasn’t thinking about it. Anyway. I got a little older, and it was all going to have to go away. Which felt like the end of the world to me. I mean, I was twelve. In fact, I got so upset that I wanted to make sure nobody would ever be able to take them away from me. So, I went somewhere I wasn’t supposed to go and stole something that would let me use some of the power for myself. It went really, really bad. I got in huge trouble. I couldn’t give the thing back. It just was me, now. I ran away, and I just keep running and screwing things up wherever I go. And… I spend all my time thinking about the stuff I wish I’d done differently. But I can’t just make it better because I barely know how to use any of this.” Tim flicks his hand. Danny winces and wrinkles his nose. Tim folds his hand back into his lap and plucks at the rubber band. “The worst part is that I was so sure it was the right thing to do. I was gonna prove that I could fix everything. But I think I was just telling myself that because it meant I wouldn’t have to give anything up. I lost my friends, but they lost me too. They didn’t do anything wrong. But because of me, they didn’t even get to say goodbye. That’s not fair.”
“How old are you?” Danny cuts in.
“Sixteen. You don’t mind taking advice from a sixteen-year-old, do you?”
“No, it’s just weird that it’s making sense.”
Tim snorts and keeps twanging at the rubber band.
“So what would you do if you could go back?” Danny asks.
Tim looks up at the ceiling. The twanging slows to a contemplative beat.
“Things were gonna change no matter what. If I’d leaned into it, I could’ve at least seen where it was gonna go and–tried to steer it, I guess? Cause now, I’ll never know. And all this?” He makes a sweeping gesture at the disembodied house around them. “Sucks. And I’m bad at this ‘growing up’ thing, obviously. But I think if I had the chance to apologize, I’d take it. I’ve made it through a lot of wild stuff I never thought I would, but I definitely coulda used more people on my side. Or, they coulda used me on their side.”
The corner of Danny’s mouth pulls.
“What do you do about missing the days that didn’t suck?”
“I still got ‘em as long as I remember them,” Tim says simply.
Danny concedes, nodding.
“Besides, I might be nuts, but the Huntress’ plan doesn’t sound half bad,” Tim  keeps on. “Can you imagine an army of ragtag supernatural rebels and monsters going up against an evil government agency and some rich bootlicking mayor who also has superpowers, oh my god! Everybody’s gotta watch each other’s backs and fight to set the record straight on who the real bad guys are. That’d be amazing!” Tim has gotten up on his feet again, pacing on the cushions and making dynamic poses and sound effects.
It doesn’t sound so bad to Danny, either, when he puts it like that.
“Aa! You’re smiling,” Tim points.
“Alright, alright. It might not be impossible–if we had the right help.”
“Really?? Uh, I would. Agree,” Tim stammers, clutching his fingers modestly. “I bet you have lots of friends you could call.” His hair is bright pink.
“Do… you wanna help?” Danny offers gingerly.
“For real? Even though I’m a kid?” He laces the last word with a little contempt.
“As long as you’re not my sister. Also, you managed to trap me. I’m not sure I could stop you.”
Tim brightens.
“Oh, man. I’m not sure what I could do, but I’ll try and think of something. Like, uh–”
“Having a secret safehouse off the grid?”
“Sure! I’ll work on some other stuff, too. Anything’s better than sitting here alone being a coward.”
Danny’s about to comment when Tim interrupts.
“Can I see your phone?”
His guest uncertainly hands it over. Tim leaps down the stairs and opens a closet in the hall. A drift of anachronous junk spills out. Danny follows. After some digging, Tim produces a plastic pill-shaped brick with buttons on it. He shakes the two phones until they both light up. Danny sneezes. Tim punches in numbers with his thumbs until each has the other’s contact saved. Then, he hands Danny’s back to him.
“Here. Call me if you need anything. Also, since you’ll probably have to tell them about me… Just don’t tell them more than you have to, okay?  And no guessing!”
Danny makes a zipping motion across his mouth.
~
The purple door takes itself to the part of the Ghost Zone where Danny came in. It swings open, and the ghost boy floats out. Tim peeks his head past the frame to have a look at the wavering ethereal depths of green.
“Whoa.”
Danny turns and gives Tim a short salute with two fingers.
“Well, seeya. Thanks for everything.”
“Hey, wait!”
Danny stops.
“Do you have 7/11 here?” Tim asks, his hair trying hard to match the space around it.
“Yeah.”
“Awesome. I’m gettin’ a slurpee, then practice. And shower.”
The door shuts and disappears.
Danny smiles.
He summons the portal home and passes through its membrane, back to his parents’ lab. The steel hazmat doors shut behind him with a pneumatic whir and a clang.
He’s still a little fatigued, but not enough to beat out his urge to check for trouble. His intangible form heads through the wall and up to the street. To his surprise, it doesn’t seem that late. There are several people casually walking around in the dim moonlight. Yellow windows shine into the autumn dark from nearby apartments. His parents must still be up, since the ghost shield’s not even on. Despite all his fretting, he hadn’t thought to check the time yet. He takes out his phone. It’s not even midnight.
He hesitates, then finds a secluded spot and calls Valerie.
It rings.
He’s already composing a voicemail in his head when it picks up at the last second.
“What do you want, Fenton?”
“Hey. Are you busy?”
“Nnno.”
There’s clatter in the speaker, followed by a hushed voice.
“Is that Dani?” Danny asks sharply.
“Hi,” his sister calls sheepishly from the background. “Don’t be mad. We can handle this.”
“Where are you? Are you okay?” he demands.
“We’re fine,” she insists with a whine.
There’s a sudden wail from a rusty hinge and a single sharp cry from an alarm, followed by the swift destruction of electrical components. A low husky voice mutters in a garbled romance language.
“Is that Wulf?”
“Hellooo…” the giant voice rumbles.
“Relax, okay?” Dani assures him. “I’ll tell you about it tomorrow.”
There’s a huge crash.
“What was that?!”
“I’m hanging up now,” Valerie states.
“Wait, wait, wait! I’m sorry. That’s not why I called. Please, I just need you all to listen for a sec.”
Valerie sighs and moves the phone.
“You’ve got three minutes.”
He feels like this might not be the best time for this, but he forces himself not to chicken out.
“I really screwed up the other night.”
“No duh,” the girls say in unison.
“Not just that. I’ve been a control freak through this whole fiasco. The Guys in White are your problem, too. And I don’t get to tell you how to handle it. Because I don’t know. I have no idea how to fix this.” His apology trails into a laugh that quickly burns out. “It was stupid of me to try to fight everybody just so that I could pretend to be in charge. I’m really, really sorry.”
Wulf grunts, but there’s nothing else.
Danny waits in the silence.
“Well,” Valerie says a bit more softly, “you’ve still got some time on the clock. Is there anything else?
Danny rubs his neck, thinking.
“I understand if you don’t want to, but–maybe I could take the back seat for a while and help you guys out instead?”
“I dunno. Are you gonna behave?”
“I’ll do my best. You could always put me in the thermos if I don’t.”
“We’ve already got someone in the thermos,” Dani tells him. “One of Walker’s guys.”
Danny’s tone drops.
“What are the Guys in White doing with Walker?”
“Get over here and find out!”
Danny’s phone buzzes. She just sent him an address.
“On my way.”
He hangs up and flies off into the night.

INDEX
(Pardon my insanity. I’ve had a version of Danny and a version of Timmy growing simultaneously in my head, and now they get to hang out.
I also really like the idea of Danny having to deal with new challenges alongside a rotating B-team of people he’s less developed with. Could be interesting.)
