Today I learned that there is apparently no easily findable sources of what exact coinage was used in the Kingdom of Alba in the 10th century.
This factoid brought to you by my abortive attempts to figure out what the hell kind of coins Prince Malcolm McAlpin would have given David Xanatos in 975 CE.
Due to a complete and total lack of anything even vaguely approaching actual scholarship, I am going to go with the incredibly generic and almost certainly inaccurate 'groat' or possibly 'sceat' although really I probably should just assume it's a penny, because pennies.
I can't believe I'm about to say this but I kind of miss the Roman empire. I am almost certainly sure the people of Alba would not share this view and I can hardly blame them.
Next I get to try to figure out how the Grimorum got from Finnguala and Mary in 976 to New York 1994...
ETA: apparently a bunch of this is covered in the SLG comics that are out of print that I haven't read. so continuing to plot with just the aired episodes as canon.

Essence of a Babygirl (a tumblr joke essay)
Tumblr media
Babygirl, the term has spiked in popularity, but what is a babygirl? Is the term a bit more complicated than at first glance? What is the essence of a babygirl? Today I will be answering these questions.
Urban dictionary describes babygirl as thusly:
“A term used towards grown fictional men who have the fandom in a loving chokehold.”
A Mashable article titled The internet's 2022 horny dictionary defines babygirl as
“... a term of endearment for when a man is being cute, comfortable in his masculinity, or weak in an evocative way.”
These descriptions are wholesome. They create an avenue of masculinity that can be vulnerable and attractive at the same time. A term for a type of masculinity that creates room for a multi-dimensional character in fiction. Various fictional characters have been affectionately dubbed as “babygirls”. One of the most well known being Leon Kennedy from the Resident Evil franchise.
However the term is also used to describe characters that are remarkably not wholesome. Characters like Izzy Hands, played by Con O’Neil from the incredible show written by David Jenkins called Our Flag Means Death and Marvel’s Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, have been called babygirls. This must indicate a spectrum of “babygirlness” that scales from wholesome to not wholesome.
Tumblr media
A good babygirl can be seen at a glance, but what makes these other characters part of that babygirl spectrum on the negative side? As my colleague (@robogart) and I studied the issue we realized that negative babygirlness included more nuance.
We created a study group to determine what attributes make up a bad babygirl. Included in our study was: Izzy Hands (Our Flag Means Death), Gal Dukat (Deep Space 9), David Xanathos and Oberon (Gargoyles), Anders (DA2), Yami Bakura (Yugi-oh, 4kids Production), King of All Cosmos (Katamari), Patches (Fromsoft), Ratagin (Great Mouse Detective), and the Six Fingered Man (Princess Bride).
The five characteristics that we found amongst all of the babygirls we picked from various media were: being decidedly not wholesome, pathetic, emotionally unhinged and dastardly, but all in all containing some kind of charm.
Tumblr media
We went through and put all of our babygirls to the test with our system. The results were surprising, with Izzy Hands coming out decidedly less babygirl than we predicted and Ratagin being the epitome of babygirlness.

What did these tests show about babygirlness on a whole? The spectrum ranges from morally good characters to bad, but all share a few common traits. However they express their vulnerabilities, either as completely unhinged or emotionally accessible, we as the audience are captivated and find “their weakness evocative”. Another aspect that is continuous through the spectrum of babygirlness, whether good or bad, is that a babygirl is secure in his masculinity however he chooses to express it. Babygirls on either end of the spectrum do end up having a “loving chokehold on their fandom”. Those people in the fandom are not necessarily of quantity, but of quality. Especially for the baby girls on the “bad” end of the spectrum.
In conclusion a babygirl can be summed up as a fictional male character that is evocative in his vulnerability and at the same time confident in his masculinity regardless of his moral compass.
Co-Written with @robogart
THANK YOU FOR READING ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF THIS SILLY LITTLE ESSAY!
Please feel free to copy and paste the bad babygirl diagram and see where you babygirls fit!! I am excited to see your favorites!!

Since this was brought to attention, Lelouch was accused of illegal moves and cheating to win, so the game is on again. Can Lelouch win legitimately and prove them all wrong about how he plays?

"Nice arm for a little bro"
"Nice arm for a mortal human".
More for our "Vlad Masters and David Xanatos are actually brothers and finally found each other again" AU. We should find a shorter name for this. Hmmm... Found Billionaires? Billionaire Bros? (Like this one, BB). Also, we like to draw muscle and men with ponytails, don't judge us.

I love how Xanatos, who will be our main villain, was first shown in full daylight, looking expectantly up at a castle it sounds like he's been trying to locate for some time.
It's his assistant Owen who we watch emerge from shadow, cool and collected and worried about costs.
Given we don't know the roles of all the players yet, this could be a nice little misdirect. Xanatos is full of life and eager and bulldozing on with a passion that doesn't consider 'astronomical costs.' Those are usually traits reserved for protagonists I feel like. So maybe the villain will be the man close to the wealthy guy. Perhaps there's internal strife and betrayal. Own is far more suspicious than Xanatos just yet.
We move on to more explicitly stated risk. Not only is this venture incredibly costly and we don't yet even know why Xanatos is undertaking it, but he just ran alone into a castle known locally to be haunted, which we didn't know before, though certainly we could see that there could be risk of going into ruins that may be structurally unsound before.
I also really love that after Owen mentions the cost, Xanatos's response utterly ignores it, and he's looking at Goliath as he first speaks over Owen's concerns. Just, 'hire the crews!'

ROUND 1, MATCH 45
NO MAGIC, POWERS, WEAPONS, OR ADDITIONAL HELP FROM OTHERS
Tumblr media
David Xanatos:
“This guy always wins. It's because he makes sure every situation is one where he will, in some way, benefit/win. It's why the TVTrope, The Xanatos Gambit, is named after him. Man regularly goes toe to toe with mythical gargoyles, and those guys have superhuman strength while Xanatos is just a guy. But he is also stinking rich - he bought a whole ass castle and transported it over the sea to put it on top of his skyscraper and regularly builds robots and laser guns and shit for fun. He also is seen in the show (season 1 episode 10 i believe) to practice martial arts so like. He aint going down easily. And even if you think you won - he planned for that all along!”
Light Yagami:
“I could beat his republican ass”
“He would go out like a little bitch after getting one good punch in, and I think that's supremely funny. I just want to see him get his ass kicked, is that so much to ask? Look at his face, it's SO punchable.”
“You know what? I want this mf to get beat up. I saw L is also here and I want L to beat him up.”

I love Gargoyles, but whose idea was it to write out 2/3rds of the main cast for all but one episode of a 22 episode arc? Kingdom was a great episode and all, but it was nowhere near enough to balance out the other 21 episodes and it shouldn't have come halfway through the arc. Goliath and Elisa had already been missing for days by the time the Avalon 3-parter was over. Why didn't Kingdom happen then? And why were there no other episodes exploring what the other 2/3rds of the clan did while Goliath and Elisa were gone?
Where's the episode where Hudson has to grapple with possibly having outlived yet another younger member of the clan? Where's the episode where Lex laments that even with 20th century technology (including this fancy new thing called the internet), he still can't find a trace of his missing family? Where's the episode where Broadway finds some time-sensitive clue to Goliath and Elisa's whereabouts but the clan can't act on it in time because Xanatos decided to take advantage of Goliath's absence?
The lack of the majority of the Manhattan Clan is made worse by the fact that, at least in my opinion, the gargoyle the show focuses on almost solely in this arc is the least interesting one. Nothing against Goliath, but the Trio and Hudson are infinitely more interesting to watch than he is. And it is taking this man way too damn long to learn the lesson that sticking to tradition when it hurts your loved ones is a bad idea. Tevye learned the same lesson in way less time, and not because Fiddler on the Roof is a short play.
TLDR; The Avalon World Tour Arc needed less world touring and more Manhattan Clan.

The only self-made millionaire is David Xanatos, who got the money to start his business by traveling back in time to the 10th Century and setting up a then regular coin to be delivered to his younger self in 1975 when the coin is an antique so his younger self could sell it.
