The sheer energy that bursts from the screen as the five girls in Mustang play and rebel is the film's greatest strength. It's a story about five Turkish girls in a small village, orphaned sisters raised by their grandmother and an uncle, whose joie de vivre gets them into trouble when a busybody neighbor sees them playing with some male schoolmates, celebrating the arrival of the end of term, and interprets their horseplay as shamefully erotic. The girls are swiftly imprisoned in their home, which becomes a "school for wives," as the youngest girl, Lale (Günes Sensoy), puts it in her occasional voiceover commentary. Eventually, two of the girls are married off, one commits suicide, and two escape to Istanbul, which evokes for them what Moscow did for the sisters in Chekhov's play. The casting is the chief marvel of the film -- none of the girls is a professional actress and they aren't really siblings -- and director and co-writer Deniz Gamze Ergüven makes the most of it. She's less successful at handling the more sensational elements of the plot, the molestation of some of the girls and the suicide, which are treated a little too obliquely. The film was not received well in the Turkey of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, but since it was co-produced by France, Germany, and Turkey, it was eligible to be submitted as the French contender for the Oscar, and earned a nomination.

Mix of some popular ancestor ideas with some fan/crack family tree’s of my own.

While Charm is the most obvious case here I had to include her to connect both Agatha and Bertha to each other as sisters or very similar cousins or something...

While the anime ones are mainly a joke Melli and Harley have the same vibe. Guess you could argue Avery would be a more likely descendant, he also has their vibes.

The Calaba one is random but... Reggies got a Bibarel and Paul’s got the sass. It’s not impossible.

Possible anscestors/descendants in PLA (spoilers!)

So there are bunch of characters who are obviously ancestors of modern-day characters, but these are just some theories for other ones. There are in no particular order.

Palina and Iscan --> Winona & Archie

I think Palina looks like Winona. Also, the goggles. I know it's a stretch, but I feel like they could be related. As for Archie, it's implied that Archie's obvious ancestor was the founder of the Pearl Clan, who could potentially be related to Palina. On top of that, Iscan kind of looks like Archie, between the hairstyle and skin tone.

Adaman --> Juan

I discussed this in another post, but Juan's japanese name is Adan, which is pretty similar to Adaman. In addition, they have similar coats, poses, and they both have multicolor hair.

Volo --> Lusamine or Ghetsis

Obviously, Volo is related to Cynthia, but his character and actions make him similar to Ghetsis and Lusamine. Also, Ghetsis and Volo are the only two trainers in the franchise who essentially have a team of 7, and the last one for both is the third legendary. However, Volo also has a similar color scheme to Lusamine, and they both open portals for their evil deeds. On top of that, all 3 have one eye covered. He just kinda gives me Ghetsis vibes.

Anvin --> Alder

Between the ponytail and bushy eyebrows(and a few other things I can't quite put my finger on, Anvin looks like he could be related to Alder, especially since there are paintings of Alder's obvious ancestor in both the Diamond and Pearl settlements, indicating that Alder's blood is in the region.

Kamado --> Wikstrom

Kamado's armor is literally identical to Wikstrom's, just a different color.

Beni --> Koga(and by extension Janine)

Same deal with Kamado, his attire and occupation as a ninja bear a striking resemblance to that of Koga.

Charm --> Agatha and Bertha

I've seen different people say different things, but I'm pretty certain that Charm is related to both Agatha and Bertha, between her appearance and her team. I think this was meant to acknowledge just how similar Bertha and Agatha are.

Vessa --> Zinnia

The little girl who gives the player the odd keystone and sends them on the quest to find the wisps bears a striking resemblance to Zinnia, between her hair and facial features. However, this theory also contradicts Zinnia's backstory as, to my understanding, she is intended to be an indigenous person of Hoenn.
