Referring to the little short post I did about Erwin's life is chaotic, I think that's why it's hard for me to go full-on like the "HE IS A DIRTY CHEATER, BOOOO YOU GO, GIRL, FIND A BETTER MAN" kinda thing in Holy ground because deep down, even when I don't justify him, I feel we don't really empathize with him. Like in Mike's pov when he admits that Erwin was so burned out with work that couldn't even give himself a sort of time to do the "mourning" of their relationship. This also leads to Erwin feeling his relationship with Y/N is another task in his list of duties, we don't really know if he loves her or not. It's more like "I need to make it up, fix the relationship because all these people are expecting me to date her and have this idealized version of myself and society, etc. And what kind of man am I if I can't make my woman stay?" As if "I'm hitting my 30s, society expects me to settle down, marry a girl and my best-laid plan decided to go full battle against me. She won't talk to me, she won't listen, she won't even try to understand," but at the same time, he's still not over a relationship he broke up with because Marie didn't understand his style of living. While he did a lot of really questionable stuff, I feel like Erwin is just.... tired. And by losing Y/N, he didn't only lose his girlfriend... but his pillar. In a lot of memories, we see that Y/N was some sort of "emotional support person" or "a person he allowed himself to be vulnerable around" and, also, a person he could rely on a lot professionally. Y/N was someone that will become the person Erwin needed her to be, an assistant, a nurse, a leader, a mediator, a pretty face for meetings but, overall, a friend. I'm not saying haha that Erwin doesn't have other friends but "male/male friendships" usually lack that sort of "vulnerability and emotional openness" that sometimes females provide (and I'm talking about this from experience, guys rarely talk about their feelings to other guys but they do to their girlfriends, sisters or female friends) And we see this with Levi hahaha he's like "haha, my dick is bigger, you're all drunk" hanging out with the rest but when he's with the readers he's more of a cuddly cat that begs you to hug him and comfort him. Closing this little rampage of thoughts by saying that Mike thought "Erwin will bounce back" as sort of "my bro will do it, he will never give up, he's a strong dude" while Erwin was actually suffering because he hurt someone that knew him enough to hit him with it actually hurt him.

That analysis post about why Levi likes tea so much reminded me, with this panel, of something I also don't think people fully understand. Which is why Levi was so angry at Erwin at first, and why he was so out for his blood.
It's because he threatens Furlan's and Isabel's lives here. He orders his men to hold their swords to their throats, simply because Levi had refused at first to give him his name. Levi's belligerence on that front is rooted, I think, in how Erwin and his men are treating him and his friends. Having them down on their knees, in the filth and mud, with their arms bound behind their backs, making demands of them all the while. It's made worse when Erwin orders Mike to push Levi's face into the sewage. And that's what it is. It's sewage, not simply mud. You can see it coming out of the drain pipes. Levi was deeply upset by this, and understandably so. Putting someone's face into a puddle of sewage is a ghastly thing to do, especially when one really considers what the consequences of something like that could be. There's all sorts of diseases one could contract from inhaling that kind of filthy water. But it's what happens next that I think really drove Levi to wanting to kill Erwin.
Isabel is certain that the scouts are going to kill them in the above panel, and in a show of defiance, tells them to just get it over with. Furlan's face is frozen in fear, sweat trickling down it, because he feels the threat is real too.
But look at Levi's face.
Where before he'd only been angry, here, he's horrified, shocked and frightened. He realizes, suddenly, that Erwin isn't just capable of humiliating them, but seemingly willing to take their lives if he doesn't comply. He's threatening the only two people Levi has in his life. The only two people he's ever been able to call friend, and really, are more like his family. The two people he's done all he can to protect in the dangerous world of the Underground City. Basically, the two people he lives for.
I think some people tend to think Levi wanted to kill Erwin over wounded pride. Even just calling what Erwin did, before ordering his men to hold their blades to Isabel's and Furlan's throats, a case of wounded pride is an understatement, I think. He thoroughly humiliated Levi and his friends, and treated them inhumanely, as if they had no rights or autonomy. But it really wasn't that which drove Levi toward wanting to kill Erwin. It was that Erwin presented himself as a threat to his family.

However, I don't know how to feel about Levi because of the real source material (Isayama interviews, smartpass story and side material like that…) and the 'professional' Japanese translators on this blog. I think he really is, according to the correct Japanese translations and Isayama interviews, he is really dragging humanity through the mud for his personal feelings… and he is someone who is floating and aimless because of Erwin's death… So much so that Isayama even thought of killing him many times because he didn't know what to do about him and threw him aside… also I guess he has no interest in women… oh and Ackerbond is probably real… I know it's not a canon ship and I know he's not in love, but that doesn't mean it's not written too reductively to Erwin. And it disgusts me…
Because of the source material, side material, canon discourse and Japanese translator blogs, my opinion of him is changing more and more and I think I will throw my LevixOc project in the trash… Levi is really someone who (because of Isayama's writing) has been hypnotized by Erwin's own goals and has taken control of Levi's entire character and actions. I don't think I could take him (or s/o) out of this hypnosis.
I know you can say "Isayama's opinions can change" or "only what is in the manga is canon" and I used to hide behind that for consolation, but I realized that once Isayama said it, it was true and it stayed there. And I think the interviews are necessary to understand the content of the scenes etc. in the manga.
Even analysis is no longer a comfort for me… after all, why need complicated writing when interviews and manga are the source of what really happened there…
I guess he's not the character I thought I wanted… I wish he was his own man… I wish he wasn't a character to be discarded just because he died because of another character… or someone who is too picky and only accepts high standards… (this is just my own opinion based on the manga and the material/opinions I think Canon!Levi would be like that)
I'm deeply disappointed… As delulu as the Eruri fandom is, most of what they say is unfortunately true… after all, they take real sources and cite them as evidence… I don't think they are mistranslating because there are professional cold-blooded translators in this fandom and most of them quote what that blog says…
I wish I had never encountered this fandom and this character, so I wouldn't have to be so upset all these years…
Except that half of the interviews are either fake, completely twisted or don't exist. Especially that flaoting ballon bullshit, which a lot of Japanese fans say wasn't even said.
I will this again, please read the manga on your own and base your opinions on Levi on your own.
Since you already mention Eruri and i might ruin your day here but Eruri is as canon and Levihan is, it isn't. No Levi never prirotized Erwin over humanity and you'll understand that if you read the manga for yourself and analyse it for yourself without letting the fandom get to you.
Levi is his own man, he has his brain to think with and the only people who think he doesn't are shippers. Not once did Levi put his own selfish desires before humanity for anyone, he was as sad about Erwin's death as he was for the rest of his comrads. Not a single instance in the manga/anime or any actual official interviews given by Isayama was Levi reduced to Erwin, only a shipper would think that way. Oh and Ackerbond thing too, not only is that damaging to Levi's character, it is just creppy and definitely not a thing.
I am sorry anon but it seems like you don't understand Levi and his character at all. Isayama always said that Erwin and Levi were equal and sworn friends, he didn't say that because he hid some sort of hidden romance between the two, he said it because that's how it is, its a strong bond of trust and commandership and reducing it only to "Oh Levi is a love sick puppy who only cares about Erwin." is a mischaractertion at max.
My advice to you is to take a break from the fandom is they are making you not like your oc x Levi anymore, that's the best way to get them out of your head and please, base your own opinions, not what people online say.

You said something about Levi feeling grief at the fullest once he kills Zeke. KEEP GOING PLEASE, IM LISTENING
i love your character analysis, please don’t tease me like that🧎
Tumblr media
i think you sent both of these maybe?? hopefully!!! and thank u :D
yess levi did go back by himself to retrieve erwin's skeletonized remains so that he could be laid to rest properly. though in all those other cases, that privildge couldn’t be afforded to him (for hange, isabel+farlan, and his old squad).
i'm thinking about hange's speech to mikasa during midnight sun about what being a scout entails.
"You understand, don't you? Everyone you meet will be parted from you one day. I know it's hard to accept. It's hard to stay sane living like that. It's painful. So painful. I know that. But even so, we need to keep moving forward."
that in mind, it's honestly staggering how levi never lost his mind or ever seemed to even waver despite every single death of a loved one or friend he's experienced - sometimes because of his own choices. the easiest explanation would be that levi simply doesn't feel much for his friends or loved ones - which of course is a joke.
so really, how does levi deal with so much loss?
1: most obviously throughout the series, levi is distanced emotionally - at varying degrees - from every single character in the series. he is never open about his feelings (although he’s earnest and unapologetic in expressing his ideals and convictions). instead he expresses his strong emotions in roundabout twists and turns that he tries to put in an objective lens.
like in his convo with eren after his squad died. levi simply told him that "no one knows how things will turn out" - to reassure eren that he shouldn't dwell on it. in fact what levi doesn't say also matters. he gives off no impression whatsoever that he resents eren or blames him.
levi is also quite liberal with thanks and praise, he's unapologetically himself, but you still couldn't describe him as even remotely the sort of person who wears their heart on their sleeve.
levi keeps himself emotionally distanced, and vigilant to the slightest sign of vulnerability (like eating around others) in order to protect himself from the inevitable pain of loss. as a result he has very few close emotional connections (although he has compassion for everyone).
2: i think that - similar to erwin and hange - levi believes that his dead are watching him from somewhere. except, different from them, he finds comfort in it more than judgment. all his life, either loss or willing abandonment has followed him, so it's really no wonder in my mind that he would believe in some sort of an afterlife to cushion the blow of so much loss. (i understand that an afterlife is confirmed in the manga, but before that, im sure levi believed in it regardless.)
he chooses to believe that his loved ones (but especially his comrades) are always watching him. the reality of that loss then doesn't feel as final, and he doesn't have to feel as much alone.
in fact i think that's where most of levi's strength comes from that he uses to move forward. it's his responsability to carry the hope and will that his comrades died for forward, but it's reassuring for him to believe that they're encouraging him even from death.
that said tho, levi is probably the furthest thing from religious.
3: we know that levi had his mother's dress fashioned into a shirt for a very long time in the underground, and (tho i think it's fan rumor that i just agree with) that he later had it fashioned into the cravat he wears. considering just how little he probably remembers about her in later adulthood, and the fact that she must've literally been his whole entire world when he was a kid, then it makes sense.
we don't know if he kept anything from kenny, although he might have the first knife he gave him. but really it'd be understandable if levi just didn't.
as for his comrades, it's canon that levi collects the wings of freedom patches from their jackets to hold onto. he did the same for petra before he generously gave it away to someone else who was grieving, and lied about who it belonged to to reassure them.
so i believe he has little knacks or keepsakes from people he loves - including stuff that we don't know about in canon.
4: otherwise the way levi deals with death is just... avoiding any and all emotional reminders as much as humanly possible. after erwin died, he never even spoke his name and just used 'he' whenever he spoke about him.
levi buries those negative feelings (especially regret) as deep and dark down as possible. if the pain he feels can't teach him anything (like he referred to in s1), then he's better off not letting himself feel it. in his mind it's probably an automatic coping mechanism to feel absolutely nothing about his griefs, because if he does, then the weight would try to break him.
so that said, he definitely dissociates a lot. i don't bet that his memory is very good either, if you want to get into the psychological side of things.
oh and i go much more in-depth about levi being forced to deal with all his grief at the fullest after zeke dies (specifically after the war ends) here!!!

Ahh sorry, so when writing the story what was the hardest part of writing this crossover?
Two things come to making a crossover work in general and how I've applied it to my work:
One: character interaction. I'm certain that I brought this up before, but basically I have to figure out how different characters from different settings would react around each other, and to the new ideas that were present. For example, when Optimus first showed up, Hanji's initial reaction is going to be excitement. Of course it would be. They just learned that there's a metal titan and life outside their world. Meanwhile Levi is going to react with suspicion and mistrust. It's a giant, metal, titan that claims to want to help with no ulterior motives. It's only when Levi and Optimus really talk one-on-one after his squad's death that they get a better understanding of one another and Levi puts his trust in him. Once Levi did, their relationship was pretty similar to that of Erwin and Levi.
I have to do a lot of research on how all the characters react in certain situations and how they would react around each other. Some of it is based on assumptions, other times analysis, sometimes its even a gut guess based on what I've seen.
Two: "Power scaling". Basically I can't make someone too powerful or else there'd be no story. It's why I didn't have Optimus 2.0 in the story and why Megatron 2.0 doesn't have his weapons. But I also need to give the enemy a fighting chance against Optimus and Megatron and create some sort of conflict. At the same time, I have to find a way to make it make sense in the context of the story. Especially with the whole energon serum situation. Again, that's based on research and assumptions and theories and what not.

Hange appreciation/analysis
Ohhh I’ve been waiting for someone to ask about my theories. We’ll see how long I can go before I get bored of typing but ughhh OKOK so
I’ve adored Hange since I was in middle school (about 6-7 years?) ever since they were introduced in the show. I love how lighthearted they appear and at the time I really enjoyed all the goofy shenanigans people would headcanon for them. Obviously that’s like, the baseline what’s on the surface analysis of their character but I’ve just always loved the “crazy sleep deprived scientist who’s too curious for their own good” trope. It provides some MUCH needed comedic relief for the show and in the fandom, but also they’re really unique among the rest of the vets due to their more positive way of thinking, even if it’s fake most of the time. That being said as I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten more into the character analysis side of things in everything I watch, and it’s made me appreciate Hange a lot more past the fandom based uwu scientist view we often see them under. They have a lot of hate and anger in their heart, towards the Titans and towards humanity as a whole in some ways. I kind of like seeing their anger issues kick in, because they’re a very emotional driven character who’s often placed in situations where they have to keep everything in for one reason or another and it’s oddly satisfying to me when they just go nuts and let that all out. Knowing that they’re such an emotional person makes them all the more strong to me as well. Sometimes their anger is hot and misguided, sure. Like in the journal OVA when they argue with Erwin, it’s mainly emotionally driven anger y’know? Or when they get pissed and kick the table in s3. But what gets me is the cold side of their emotions. The calculation and the rationalization they go to. Their speech to Oulo in the OVA about how to defeat an unbeatable enemy you have to watch them. Observe them. Learn every little part of their routine and exploit what you can. That sort of anger, the intensity is my favourite. Because it serves as a reminder that they’re not just a quirky scientist doing this just coz. They’re smart and lethal
I’m losing my train of thought here soooo bad oh my god. Point is there’s so much I absolutely adore about hange’s personality and writing 😭😭 here’s a little doodle I did to warm up as a thanks for reading

Database Techniques: Design, Implementation, & Management
If the end person already has an automatic system in place, the designer rigorously examines the present and desired stories to describe the information required to assist the reviews. This process is one which is generally thought of a part of requirements analysis, and requires skill on the a half of the database designer to elicit the wanted info from those with the area knowledge.
We have suspended the usage of Qualifications Development Facilitators (QDFs) for the development of occupational skills, half skills and abilities programmes with instant impact. Many students efficiently change careers to programming after taking our programs, even if they have been completely new to programming when starting out. This data science course will place you at the coronary heart of the digital economic system and provide you with endless scope for development. In terms of normalization, this strategy meets the third regular form’s gridlines, however there should be the potential of redundant data getting stored into the DB. It’s a fact that making a database is straightforward now, but when it comes to architecting it to carry out optimally and give you the best return on investment, it's a bit difficult.
Most of the services we take pleasure in on the internet are provided by internet database purposes. Web-based e-mail, on-line buying, forums and bulletin boards, corporate web sites, and sports activities and news portals are all database-driven. To construct a modern website, we will oracle database develop a custom build database application. Your knowledge and abilities might be examined by means of on-line performance-based assessments and apply questions. These instruments will assist prepare you for the certification exam by testing your ability to use your information.
Single-Table design poses some unique challenges that have to be addressed all through the design section. Gary Allemann has over 20 yr's experience solving business problems utilizing data. He is passionate about the success of South Africa, loves the African bush, and believes in local talent.
For instance, customers can choose to see the desk name solely or most info together with table name, columns, major keys, international keys and datatypes. Information processing necessities across functions, databases and companies usually are not ever prone to be the same. Congratulations, you might have just renamed your primary ID field and completed creating your first table! To do that, you needed to create the desk, create two fields and choose their data sorts. You also had to ensure that the entries within the username field were unique and required, and that passwords have been required. Ensure data options are constructed for performance and design analytics applications for a number of platforms.
ERwin maintains both a logical and bodily model of the database design. This permits one to design a logical model of the business with out compromising for the chosen database platform. In addition, the names, definitions and comments hooked up to every attribute/column, entity/table and their relationships can differ between the 2 fashions. All of this data could be readily extracted by way of quite so design a database much of customisable reports. Normalisation is a scientific method of decomposing tables to remove data redundancy and Insertion, Modification and Deletion Anomalies. The database designer constructions the info in a means that eliminates pointless duplication(s) and offers a rapid search path to all essential information.
“Don’t turn it right into a bottleneck,” he warned, adding that preallocating house for tempdb — and making sure it’s large enough to accommodate your workloads — is one of the best ways to stop performance issues. Though Verbeeck vouched for clustered indexes overall, he emphasised that DBAs and developers database design should also examine other SQL Server indexing choices before committing to a selected design. Even though data storage is cheaper than it used to be, it takes a query longer to read larger columns, Verbeeck pointed out.
This course will teach you everything you need to know to begin out using the extremely well-liked MySQL database in your Web, Cloud and embedded functions. In learning about MySQL, you will develop an understanding of relational databases and the way to design a robust and efficient database. You will harness that power by learning SQL and use it to build databases, populate them with data and query that data via extensive hands-on practices.

And btw do you know that 99% of men hate levi just cause we women like him? They even claim that floch is more useful than him and that levi's strength doesn't make sense! They are talking about that 24/7 in anime groups saying that we women ruined aot by liking Levi way too much
Tumblr media
Dear anon, those two questions are complementary, so i'm answering them in one shot.
To be honest, if at the start of the manga Levi wasn't here to please the fangirls, he quickly became that sort of totem, and it is confirmed by two things : fan polls and Isayama's interviews.
Levi was always popular in the character popularity polls, then there was Isayama who said in an interview that he gradually made Levi in a way that would be appealing, also saying that when he came up with the character, he knew he got something, and something that was going to be popular among a specific category of fangirls, so the "fanservice" is partly true if we refer to the author himself, but I think he did it in a subtle well-manoeuvered way, since Levi is actually a really good character, not just here for decoration.
Even if Levi didn't have a bit of fanservice component in its creational process, he sure does now, he's extremely popular among girls and women, and we can't ignore how a lot of official art and goodies are clearly fanservice, and that's just the anime game.
Now about men saying women ruin snk with the Levi adoration, well, you know, i'm old enough to have witnessed these allegations many times and in different fandoms. The problem i have with this type of statement is that, if the fangirling is all the men witness, then they get annoyed and don't see the rest. Men think that if a woman simps for a character and only shows her love/obsession for the character, then she "misses the whole point" of the work or is not capable of grasping the complexity and depth and basically the whole point of the series.
Well i disagree with that, and we, the Levi lovers on tumblr, are a living proof of that. We're here to fantasize, squeal and write self indulging fanfics but we're also capable of coming up with meta analysis and deep introspection about the profundity of the character and what drives his actions, choices and such. Because everyone knows a well-written character when they see one, be it men or women.
We can scream in high-pitched voices when we see Levi's abs on a new official art, AND we can appreciate his character's writing. We can write a particularly graphic work of fiction about him taking us in every way possible AND we can debate for hours about the complex connections of Levi to Kenny, Mikasa, Erwin, Hange, how his past shaped his present, what he fights for, why as a character he ignites in us this respect, admiration and affection. Women just show affection differently and with more expression, maybe. It's not always one or the other, it can be both, we can both use our brains to appreciate the story and our imagination to fuel our fantasies.
I'll add that Levi Ackerman, of all characters, isn't logically the hottest character or the character that a girl or woman would call "dreamy", in case men forgot : Levi is shorter than them all, not necessarily on the pretty side, make metaphorical representations about poop all the time, is brutal, stoic, and expressionless, a former thug, poor, and i could go on.
So why we love him to death ? His personality, charisma and overall persona ! What's not to respect about this kind of love ? We love the character for who he is and what he reflects.
Another thing i'd like to add is that it's pretty hypocritical from men to blame us for such a thing, since they also simp hard for some female characters in video games, movies, anime and such, and it's not always for any underlying reasons than their bodies, some do know how to appreciate female characters with who are well-written and who add to the story, but men also do what they blame women for, they just aren't as expressive as us and they don't necessarily go and write thousands words fanfics or hang in forums to say why or how much they love said character, they express it their own way.
Like in Star Wars, some men really do appreciate Princess Lea as a character and what she brings to the story, while at the same time obsessing over her in that little outfit she was wearing with Boba Fett, so why can't we do the same ?
The fangirls who ruin it (for everyone not just men) aren't necessarily the majority, and they are doing their own thing in their corner, but the fangirls who actually sit and watch the anime or read the manga with an appreciation for the intellectual and art work exist, and they have the right to go on their laptops and write a 5k fanfiction about their beloved.

Analysis of Ch.19 Levi and reader fight.
One of my key observations regarding the final chapters of "Holy Ground" is the subtle implication that Y/N was, in essence, "running away." While this notion may come across as hurtful, especially to Levi, who is the other party involved, it's evident that Y/N was utilizing the relationship as a sort of "getaway car." It's somewhat disheartening that even Levi himself acknowledges that he noticed Y/N was less into it than him.
While I have no doubts about the mutual love between Y/N and Levi, I do feel that she harbored a somewhat "delusional" perspective on their relationship. By "delusional," I don't mean the typical fairy tale fantasy of "living happily ever after with a prince in shining armor," as was the case with Erwin. Rather, she saw Levi as a means of escaping from reality. Levi became the person she turned to when she wanted to evade the real world, allowing herself to engage in actions she wouldn't under normal circumstances. It's evident that "breaking the rules" doesn't impact her much, as she clings to this mindset. She becomes visibly upset when Levi attempts to break that spell of running from the law and insists on facing reality. Y/N frequently refers to Levi as her "winter break" or her "wonderland," signifying a daydream of escaping the disarray in her life. She's fully aware that her life is falling apart, especially if their relationship becomes public, but she cannot confront this reality.
This is why she rejected considering "what Thomas told her" and blindly entered into the new relationship. She desires Levi to be the person with whom she can isolate herself from society. She envisions Levi as that "table in the corner of the mess hall where he sits alone" to which she can escape from her friends. Y/N wishes to revel in carefree moments, allowing Levi to slow dance with her in a dimly lit attic.
Levi, on the other hand, sees Y/N as his "second chance." He is willing to put in extra hours to improve his chances of obtaining legal papers, not because he cares about "the king, MPs, legality, or social rules," but because he recognizes the importance of these things to her. Levi understands that for Y/N to have a respectable life by his side in the eyes of society, he needs to straighten things out. He's committed to doing that and more. Unlike Y/N, Levi doesn't aim to escape reality; he seeks to create a small haven of "joy, calmness, and normalcy" in his life. Y/N is his "cherry blossom tree," the bright spot in adversity. That's the fundamental issue.
Y/N is not being honest because she dreads anything that might shatter the small, delusional bubble of happiness she has managed to find. As a dignified daughter of the Wall royalty, she prefers lies over reality. A delusional dream of a dying king is preferable to the truth.
Levi, on the other hand, is the rightful son of the underground, searching for small moments of life that keep hope alive. Even in the harshest of realities, he believes that sunlight can sneak through the cracks in the unforgiving world. He's willing to do everything in his power to create something authentic in a world filled with loss and uncertainty.

hi! hope you're well :) im not sure if my ask went through or not bc my wifi was being glitchy and it didn't seem like it sent so pls disregard this if the ask happened to go through lol during the acwnr arc, we see isabel and furlan interacting with the scouts and it seems like they're genuinely engaging in conversations with them. both of them open up about their pasts and connections to levi, although im not sure whether it's a manipulation tactic to gain trust or if they truly felt comfortable opening up to these people they've gotten to know over the course of several months, according to the manga. my question is: aside erwin and that one interaction with hange, do you think levi interacted with other members of the scouts as well? obviously, levi isn't very approachable and is a pretty blunt guy. but if someone were to be friendly with him and treat him like everyone else, would he engage in a conversation, even if it's a small one, or just remove himself from it all-together?
im really curious to hear your thoughts on this as i always love hearing your analysis on levi <3
Hi there, and thanks for the ask! I don't think your first attempt went through, so no worries about sending it again!
First, about Isabel and Furlan, I can't see Isabel being manipulative, really. Her personality just doesn't seem naturally geared that way at all. She's a lot like Levi in that way, in that she's really honest with her emotions and thoughts, only obviously, a lot more outgoing and friendly than Levi. So I think her interactions with the other scouts was probably genuine. Furlan on the other might have been trying to cozy up to them to give them better cover and make their presence there seem less suspicious. Though given the way Furlan relates the story about Levi, I think he was being pretty genuine too. You can tell how much it meant to him, that Levi saved his life.
With Levi, I kind of doubt he interacted much with anyone, for one thing, as you said, because Levi sort of exudes an unapproachable vibe. Not intentionally, he's just a very introverted and quiet person and also, yes, very blunt, which no doubt rubbed plenty of people the wrong way. If Levi doesn't like you for any reason, he's probably going to tell you so. Most people would pretend just to make their own social interactions easier, but Levi doesn't do that. Like his interactions with Flagon, we see him basically unable to pretend to like the guy, even as it's making his, Furlan's and Isabel's situation more difficult. Or his unmoved attitude when Shadis gets in his face and tries to intimidate him. Levi's not too good at ingratiating himself to people or placating them. So I think that probably had a pretty adverse affect on his ability to get along with people at first, and find any, real social interaction. There's also the fact that Levi was reluctant to get close to any of the scouts, because he knew if he did, he would start to feel responsible for them and want to protect them. When Hange asks him if he would be willing to teach some of them his fighting techniques, Levi turns her down, and when Furlan asks him why, he says he doesn't want to be responsible for anyone else. That's Levi's fear talking. He doesn't want to get close to them or try to teach them anything to protect themselves, only for them to then get killed, because he knows it will weigh heavily on him. He knows he cares too much about people to keep a really detached or unaffected attitude about them and their well being. The difficulty for Levi is, even in trying to keep his distance so he doesn't end up caring about these people, he still does. Like the soldier who he saved at the beginning from impaling himself on a dummy titan, or the soldiers he had to watch die when the first abnormal titan appeared. Levi felt guilty that he learned from watching that happen how to approach killing the titan himself. He'd already developed a protective instinct toward all of them, despite not being close. I think that's why Furlan gets so worried when Isabel starts talking about understanding why the scouts do what they do. He knows Levi, and he knows Levi has a bleeding heart, and that he's already starting to feel an attachment to the soldiers around them. We see this demonstrated again later when we see part of the reasoning Levi leaves Furlan and Isabel behind is because he wants them to help protect Flagon and the rest of his squad.
So I think, if someone were to try and approach Levi and be friendly with him, for one, he'd be pretty surprised, as he was when Hange approached him and the others, but he'd also probably be reluctant to try and engage back, again because of that fear he has of growing close and then losing them. But I think if someone really, genuinely tried with Levi to be his friend, he would eventually reciprocate. Levi's never going to be some effusive, gregarious person. He's never going to be super talkative or outgoing or enthusiastic in his expressions. He's always going to appear very reserved and introverted and flat. But that doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy being with someone else. I think you couldn't wish for a better friend in the world than Levi. he's always going to be there when it really counts. When things are hard. He'll always be loyal. He'll always do his best to protect you and support you.
Basically, if someone just has the patience to keep trying with Levi, eventually you'll end up finding in him someone worth every ounce of effort.

An in-depth analysis of Mikasa’s character development in relation to Eren and Levi
Author's Note: Hi, all! As I was re-reading and going over my previous post/analysis titled "On the change of dynamics of Mikasa's relationships with Eren and Levi," I realized that there were some points that I should've/could've included. Lol. I also came up with other points of analysis as well as arrived at other realizations concerning Mikasa's connections with Eren and Levi. So, I've decided to post them here. This post can be considered a continuation of the previous analysis since it supplements and further expounds on the last post's points. But this can still stand on its own since it also talks about additional issues. Haha. If you want to read the previous post, the link is up there. Hehehe.
Fair Warning: This is a very long post. Lol.
This post will analyze the following:
1.  How Mikasa's connection to Eren is rooted in their shared history. This was already touched upon in the previous post, but this post will expound more on this.
2.  How Mikasa's character development is affected by Eren's own character development. How her development as a character is affected by this will also be discussed. This segment will also analyze how Mikasa's connection to Eren became strained because of the latter's drastic change in the latter part of the series.
3.  How "Chapter 138: A Really Long Dream" is about Mikasa finally letting go of and "waking up" from her dream. This post shall also analyze how Chapter 138 is actually the climax and turning point of Mikasa's character development concerning Eren.
4.  How Eren represents Mikasa's dream, while Levi represents her reality. This will be further expounded on later.
From the foregoing topics, it’s clear that this is a primarily Mikasa-centered analysis. Haha. I just had so many thoughts running through my mind about her development that I was eager to make this post. Lol.
So, anyway, we now delve in:
1.    Mikasa's connection to Eren is rooted in their shared history.
In the series, most of Mikasa's actions and reactions tend to either revolve around or be connected to Eren. About this, it is necessary to take into account their relationship and shared history.
Before Mikasa met Eren, she was a young girl who lived a relatively peaceful and quiet life with her loving parents. But then, all that changed when human traffickers killed her parents in front of her eyes and kidnapped her to sell her as a sex slave.
During this time, she was just an innocent young girl who hadn't experienced much of the world yet. So, one can only imagine the pain, shock, and trauma that she must have felt during her brief period of captivity. Being so young at the time, she was understandably shaken and scared – having had her family and her innocence forcibly and violently taken away from her.
However, hope came in the form of a young Eren who had gone looking for her on his own when he and his father discovered her parents' bodies. When he found her, he wasted no time taking action and immediately killed two of her captors before freeing her. When the third captor arrived and tried to strangle Eren, he told her to fight. At first, she was scared to do so, as evidenced by her shaking when she held the knife Eren used to cut her binds. While he kept telling her to fight, memories suddenly flashed in her mind, and they made her realize that they lived in a cruel but beautiful world. During this time, her dormant "Ackerman powers" awakened and thus gave her the strength and courage to actually fight and deliver the killing blow – thereby freeing both herself and Eren. As we all know, in the aftermath, the Yeagers took Mikasa in, and Eren gave her his scarf when she said that she felt cold.
As mentioned before, Mikasa and Eren's shared history is important. This is because it defined the early dynamics of their relationship. Eren was literally and figuratively her savior. He saved her from captivity and from a potential future of abuse. He also saved her from loneliness and despair. When she lost her biological parents, she found a new family in Eren, Grisha, and Carla. The Yeager parents treated her warmly and kindly, and Eren was her constant companion (apart from Armin, of course). Having experienced the severe trauma of violently losing her parents, she never wanted to lose anyone precious to her ever again. This is evidenced by the following situations in the series:
a)  When she and Eren desperately wanted to save Carla from the Smiling Titan in Season 1. Neither she nor Eren wanted to leave her behind. So, when Hans carried them away to safety, Mikasa was visibly crying and heartbroken.
b)  When she attacked Levi with tears in her eyes when he initially declared that he would use the Titan serum on Erwin instead of Armin. Armin, alongside Eren, was one of the most precious people left in her life. As such, the idea of losing him was painful. When Levi eventually decided to save Armin instead, Mikasa wept tears of joy when Armin fully recovered after eating Bertolt.
c)  When Mikasa cried upon seeing Sasha's dead body. While the development of their friendship wasn't fully shown, it was clear that Sasha meant a great deal to Mikasa as the former's death affected her deeply.
About Mikasa not wanting to lose anyone close to her, it is evident and apparent that Eren was the most special person in her life. This is not surprising since Eren was the one who literally saved her, and there's also the fact that he was the only one left of her adoptive family. Apart from these, I think that the following reasons are also possible and probable causes as to why Eren was the most special:
a)  Eren was her source of hope and strength. When she fell into despair when she was kidnapped, Eren gave her hope when he came to her rescue. It was also during the struggle against her captors that she awakened her inner Ackerman power. So, she might have attributed her then new-found strength to him.
[Side note: I'm aware that Eren was lying when he commented that Mikasa had responded to his "command" to fight back then because she mistakenly thought that he was a "royal host." In the “Attack on Titan ANSWERS” guidebook, Isayama-sensei himself stated that "[Mikasa, Levi, and Kenny] are all part of the same Ackerman bloodline. However, their reasons for protecting their respective counterparts do not have anything to do with the bloodline itself—it is just their nature." When I said that Mikasa attributed her then new-found strength to him, I was talking in figurative and emotional terms. Lol.]

b)    In her eyes, Eren represented the good in their cruel world. Because of Eren, Mikasa realized that the world is cruel but is also beautiful – meaning that there's also good in it

My take is that all of these things shaped and formed the beginnings of Mikasa's connection to Eren. Their shared history influenced Mikasa's overly protective nature towards him and her affection for him. Eren was the foundation of her strength and a constant reminder that there was still good in the cruel world they lived in. As such, she would have done anything to protect him and all that he meant to her.
This is particularly important as we proceed to the second point of this analysis, which is how Mikasa's character development is affected by Eren's.
-----
2.    Mikasa's character development is affected by Eren's.
For the most part of the series, Mikasa has been characterized by her strong urge to protect Eren. The reasons behind this protective nature of hers have already been expounded earlier. At this juncture, I shall now discuss how Mikasa was affected by the kind of person Eren used to be.
Specifically, this portion of the analysis will be divided into two (2) parts: the first will be about their character developments during the pre-Marley arc. The second will be about their developments during the Marley arc and going onwards.
a)    Pre-Marley Arc
As previously mentioned, Eren was her literal savior. And she saw firsthand how he would willingly place himself in danger to protect others. She appreciated Eren's good-nature. And she likely saw him as a sort of embodiment of the things that make the cruel world they live in more bearable and more beautiful.
It is essential to consider the kind of person that Eren used to be before the Marley arc. Before the truth of the world and the Titans was revealed, Eren was a mischievous and stubborn child. Still, at the same time, he was also good-natured, determined, selfless, and courageous. His resolve, courage, and desire to protect others were further amplified when the Warriors of Marley attacked his hometown of Shiganshina and when the Smiling Titan ate his mother.
The early stages of Eren's development are relevant to Mikasa's own development. Due to his well-meaning nature and their shared history, Mikasa felt strongly inclined to side with him and protect him at all times. While this is understandable on her part, it has also proven to be problematic.
Her disposition towards Eren impaired her judgment
For instance, it has been shown on more than one occasion that Mikasa's affection for Eren has impaired her judgment. This has been exemplified in the following cases:
a)    Back in Season 1, when both she and Armin thought that Eren had been killed, Mikasa went on a reckless rampage on her own against the Titans which invaded Trost. To be fair, she was grief-stricken under the circumstances. Nonetheless, her actions were still irresponsible, and she nearly lost her own life because of them.
b)    When she recklessly went after Annie in her Female Titan form after the latter had captured Eren in the Forest of Giant Trees outside the Walls. Mikasa would have probably been killed had Levi not arrived. Furthermore, because of her rage towards Annie during this time, Mikasa disobeyed Levi's order not to engage Annie in battle. Her decision endangered her; it also resulted in Levi's injury, which rendered him unable to fight for some time.
It also narrowed her priorities and way of thinking
As mentioned in my previous post, Mikasa is not cruel or heartless towards others. It has been shown that she has empathy for innocent and helpless people. This is likely because of her own experiences with being powerless. The following instances exemplify this:
a)    When she saved Louise and her mother from one of the Titans that had invaded Trost.
b)    When she threatened Dimo Reeves with her sword when he refused to allow the district's defenseless citizens to pass through the pathway leading to the protected areas until all of his merchandise and goods were carried through. She only relented her threatening demeanor and actions when he had this cart moved to the side to make way for the citizens to pass.
However, because of the extent of her concern and devotion to Eren, Mikasa seemed to disregard nearly everything else whenever he was in danger.
An example of this was during the Struggle for Trost and Eren's military trial in Season 1. When Eren transformed to begin the mission to seal the Wall, he initially lost control and attacked Mikasa and the others. It is worth noting that it was unintentional on his part. However, that does not change the fact that his loss of control nearly jeopardized the mission and placed his comrades in danger.
While the mission was ultimately successful, Eren's loss of control was still a serious source of concern. Because of this, he was temporarily imprisoned. It was also decided that there would be a trial to see if he was either a threat or an asset to humanity within the Walls.
During this time, Mikasa was understandable apprehensive, and worried about Eren. It is worth noting that, as mentioned in my previous post, she was more concerned about him than the fact that he was still a potential threat at the time. It should be remembered that during this time, the inhabitants of Paradis (save for a select few such as the royal family and their followers) were ignorant of the truth about Titans and the world. As such, the fear directed towards Eren was valid and understandable. Yet, despite this, Mikasa was still singularly focused on him.
This is evidenced by the following:
a)    Her glaring at Rico when it was revealed that the latter had mentioned Eren's loss of control in the report that they had submitted. When Rico responded with, "Did you expect me to lie in a report?" Mikasa simply continued to glare at the Garrison soldier. On this, Rico was clearly in the right for telling the truth since Eren's powers were still a mystery and still potentially harmful to others. Yet, Mikasa was probably too worried about Eren to realize this.
b)    When she attempted to attack Levi when the latter began to physically beat Eren. She would've undoubtedly intervened had Armin not stopped her. I had already expounded on this in my previous post, but I will just add the pertinent excerpts here:
"The display was necessary to emphasize and prove that Levi, who is widely known as "Humanity's Strongest Soldier," was best suited to subdue Eren should he lose control of his abilities. Because of this, the Scouts were able to convince the Military Police and Premier Zackly that they should be given custody over Eren. At the time, Mikasa was gravely concerned about Eren's well-being and was perhaps too furious at Levi to think about anything else. Because of this, she probably did not immediately realize that Levi had effectively secured Eren's relative safety at the end of the day. "
"During the trial, the MPs spoke of planning to dissect him, among others. Conversely, the Scouts proposed that he participate in an upcoming scouting expedition to determine whether he is a threat or not. They also suggested that Eren be placed under Levi's direct supervision so that he could be subdued in the event of an incident. While the latter proposal still entailed some degree of violence, it was far less hostile and more beneficial to Eren than the MP's proposal."
To conclude this part, I think that Mikasa focused more on the fact that Eren never meant any harm. And she probably thought that Eren should not be punished because of this. Again, all of this shows how Mikasa was inclined to always side with Eren (even though his actions may sometimes do more harm than good) because of his good and well-meaning nature and their shared history.
b)   Marley arc until the present time
The second part of this segment shall now discuss how Eren's drastic and dark development affected Mikasa.
As mentioned before, Mikasa always sided with Eren because of their past and his good nature.
However, when Eren began changing for the worse, their relationship began to deteriorate. As mentioned in my previous post, they slowly but surely drifted apart until they lost their common ground.
At the start of the Marley arc (which is the beginning of the fourth season in the anime), Eren's personality had noticeably become darker. This is evidenced by his horrible actions, which endangered and cost lives, such as the following:
a)    When he executed his and Zeke's plan to raid Liberio so that they could both escape to Paradis Island. As a result of this plan, countless innocent civilians and children were killed in the process. Furthermore, several of his comrades from the Survey Corps/Scouting Regiment lost their lives, including Sasha.
b)    When he initiated the Rumbling with the intention to destroy all of humanity not residing within Paradis Island. This plan and course of action would eliminate both their enemies who were actively plotting to attack Paradis and millions of innocent civilians and bystanders.
At this point in time, Eren had changed from a good-natured and compassionate soldier dedicated to protecting innocents to a depressed and violent extremist. This change was triggered by the revelation of the truth about the world and his gaining access to the memories of the past and future inheritors of his Attack Titan.
With regard to how his terrible change affected Mikasa, it is clear that she was clearly disturbed by it.
Mikasa had begun to acknowledge that Eren was no longer the "good" in their cruel world.
During the raid on Liberio, she was visibly distraught and affected by Eren's destructive actions. It seemed that she was in disbelief – she even asked him if he was aware that he did things that cannot be undone. As mentioned in the previous post, Mikasa was even more distressed because Eren consciously caused the destruction and did not appear to show any remorse.
It is worth noting that Mikasa's empathy for innocent and defenseless people, especially children, was highlighted in this scene. When she asked Eren if he was aware of his actions' consequences, there were tears in her eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

At that point in time, Mikasa had begun to realize that the Eren she once knew was no longer with them. She had started to see that Eren no longer represented the good in the world; and that he had become a source of what makes it cruel.
Mikasa felt conflicted because she was in denial.
Throughout the Marley arc events up until the Rumbling arc, Mikasa still held on to the hope that Eren could still change for the better. It is true that she believed (or maybe desperately wanted to believe) that Zeke was manipulating him, but does not change the fact that Eren was acting on his own accord.
On several occasions, Mikasa had expressed her desire to talk to Eren and kept insisting that sense could still be talked into him. I think that this is an indicator that she was in a state of "pseudo-denial."
I used the term "pseudo-denial" because, from how I see it, Mikasa was already aware that Eren was no longer the same person who saved her.  That he was no longer the same person who insisted that Historia eat him so that humanity can be saved. That he was no longer the same person who would jump right into battle to protect innocent people; that he had turned into someone who had harmed and would continue to harm innocent people. However, it appears that Mikasa did not want to accept this fact. This is why she kept insisting on talking to Eren in the slim chance that he could still be persuaded to abandon his plan of initiating the Rumbling. She was torn between reality and her personal sentiments. In short, she still hoped that the kind person who stood up for the helpless and who saved her from bondage was still in there somewhere. This exemplified by this scene from Episode 14 of Season 4:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Screenshots taken from Season 4, Episode 14 of the “Attack on Titan” anime
This pseudo-denial placed her odds with her allies and comrades. The others, such Armin, Annie, and Levi, had already accepted that Eren needed to be killed in the worst-case scenario. On this, it's apparent that Mikasa knew that they were right considering the circumstances. But she still felt conflicted because she still hoped that Eren could be convinced to not go through with his plans. However, that hope was dashed when Eren himself told them that the only way to stop him was to kill him. Yet, even then, she was still hesitant and conflicted.
Mikasa had matured because of their strained connection and had begun outgrowing her bond with Eren.
In a way, Mikasa was still holding onto the past. On this, Eren's dark character development is what caused their relationship to deteriorate. As previously discussed, Mikasa's connection to Eren is rooted in their shared history and the type of person he used to be. In the past, Eren was her savior, her family, and her source of strength and hope. But when he stopped being those things to her, the foundation for their bond was lost.
While it is tragic and drastic for Mikasa, this caused her to become more keenly aware of other priorities. She became more cognizant of the stakes involved rather than just focusing on Eren. Although she still cared greatly for him, she was no longer singularly focused on him. She became wise and mature enough to not turn a blind eye to the danger and threat that he posed. This in sharp contrast to how she acted in the past. Before, she would always place Eren's welfare first before nearly anything else. But because of recent developments, she finally began to realize and understand that there were other things more important than Eren. And I think that this is a significant turning point for her since he had affected and influenced her for most of her life.
Before Chapter 138, Mikasa was still in a state of "pseudo-denial" because of her hope for a more peaceful solution in dealing with Eren. But I think that the fact that she started feeling conflicted was the start of her process of outgrowing her bond with Eren. This is because she knew that she could no longer just turn a blind eye to his actions and their devastating effects.
The significance of her process of outgrowing her connection with Eren will be further expounded in the next point of analysis below.
-----
3.    "Chapter 138: A Long Dream" is about Mikasa finally letting go of and "waking up" from her own dream.
It has already been established that Mikasa had dreamed of living a peaceful life for the longest time. She dreams of one that is similar to the kind she once had with her parents. In particular, Mikasa wanted to live such a life with her loved ones, particularly Eren. The "dream" she had during this chapter is evidence of this.
It is unclear whether what Mikasa saw was a dream, a hallucination, a vision, or, as some fans speculate, a memory from an alternate reality. In any case, it was not the reality that she lived in.
I've already stated earlier that her process of outgrowing Eren and their bond was significant. Concerning this, I think that the said process was part of a slow build-up towards her decision to finally let Eren go and kill him.
As previously mentioned, Mikasa seemed to have difficulty accepting that the Eren of her past had turned into the Eren who wished to destroy all of humanity outside of Paradis. She had struggled to fully acknowledge and accept this fact because it was too painful for her. However, as the situation started to become more drastic and desperate, she realized that she had no other choice but to face reality.
But even though she knew this, she still felt conflicted. Even when Eren told them that the only way to stop him was to kill him, she was still hesitant. She knew what needed to be done but could not accept it because of her attachment to Eren.
On this, I think that the "dream" or vision (or whatever it really was) that she had during the battle is representative of the kind of life she wishes and dreams for. When she, Levi, and the remaining Titan shifters were the only ones left to fight, she started having another headache. And when Levi told her that they were the only ones left who could kill Eren, her head pain intensified until the dream/vision started playing in her mind.
This is my take on this moment: the headache represented Mikasa's conflicted feelings. She knew that Eren needed to be stopped to save humanity. She knew that the rest of the world did not deserve to suffer from the cruel fate that Eren wished to bestow upon it. But her emotional attachments held her back from taking action. As for the dream/vision, I think it was her way of arriving at an epiphany and decision. And on this, maybe it was this dream/vision that gave Mikasa the resolve and courage to finally accept the reality. I will expound further.
In the dream/vision, Mikasa was crying. She said that she "shouldn't be there." And then dream-Eren spoke about their decision to run away from the Marleyan-Paradis conflict so that they could live in isolation and in peace during the last few years of his life. Dream-Eren then apologized for "bringing up the past."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

I personally think that this was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. During this dream/vision, Mikasa finally realized that her wish and dream to live a peaceful life with Eren could no longer come true. Her dream was born in the past, and if there was any chance of it happening, it had already passed by. Mikasa finally realized that attaining her dream was already impossible at that point.
I also think that when dream-Eren told her to forget about him after he dies, this could be interpreted as Mikasa realizing that if she were to finally have a quiet and peaceful life, then Eren would not be a part of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Screenshots taken from Chapter 138 of the “Shingeki no Kyojin” manga
Furthermore, Mikasa saying that she "had a long dream" could mean that she finally let go of her life-long wish/dream so that she can wake up to the reality she needed to face. It could be interpreted as her choosing to give up on Eren for good to make the world a less cruel place. On this, her decision to kill Eren herself was likely her way of letting him go and saying goodbye. It was the climactic resolution and outcome of her internal conflict where she struggled to choose between doing the right thing (saving humanity) and holding on to the most special thing in her life (Eren). In the end, she chose humanity over him because she knew that if she chose him, then their already cruel world would become darker and crueler.
Tumblr media

A quick note on Mikasa saying that she can’t forget Eren:
Some people might say that Mikasa’s declaration that she can’t forget Eren means that she decided not to let him go. I personally disagree with this. It is completely possible to move on from someone and let them go without forgetting them. In Mikasa’s case, I think that by saying that she won’t forget Eren, she meant that she will always remember the peaceful, good, and happy times that they had together. I also think that it means that she will fondly remember Eren as the good person he used to be.
I think that it’s understandable and fair that Mikasa chooses to remember the good times and the good things. Because, for better or for worse, Eren was still a huge and influential part of her life. The old Eren and the good times they had together were very much real, and the happiness she felt during those times was also genuine and valid. I also think that her decision to wear the scarf around her neck before delivering the killing blow was her way of saying, “I’m letting you go. But I will always value the good moments we had together. Goodbye.”

4. Eren represents Mikasa's dream, while Levi represents her reality.
This is a personal take and interpretation of the possible symbolisms connecting Mikasa and Levi in Chapter 138.
During the final battle against Eren, only Levi, Mikasa, and the titan-shifters were left to fight. And during this battle, Mikasa started to have her dream/vision. While dealing with her conflicted emotions, she began to drift to her "dream" about Eren and away from reality. And while she was drifting away, Levi kept telling her to "stay with [him there]."
Tumblr media
Screenshot taken from Chapter 138 of the “Shingeki no Kyojin” manga
This could be interpreted as Levi being the voice calling out to her to stay in the current reality and not get lost in her distant and impossible dream. It is interesting to note that before she began "dreaming," an image of Eren as a child was shown, followed by a panel of a close-up of Levi's mouth with no dialogue. Meaning that everything around her had already faded away before she was immersed in her dream during that time.
Tumblr media
Screenshots taken from Chapter 138 of the “Shingeki no Kyojin” manga
This could symbolize the inner conflict and turmoil that Mikasa was experiencing. She was torn between holding on to the past and accepting the present.
When she woke-up, both literally and figuratively, Mikasa had decided to let go of her dream and of Eren. She finally accepted the reality and returned to it. She returned to Levi's side and faced reality alongside him.
Tumblr media
Screenshot taken from Chapter 138 of the “Shingeki no Kyojin” manga
Following this line of thought, this symbolic moment could foreshadow the kind of relationship they would have in the future. Considering that this final stand against Eren might very well be the most important battle of their lives, it would be reasonable to assume that they might form a deeper connection and relationship in its aftermath. They finished it together, so perhaps (and hopefully) it means that whatever the future might bring, they would also face it together.
Going back to how Eren and Levi are symbols, Eren represents her dream. Eren is not only a part of it; it is also linked to her past. Mikasa knew that her dream was impossible to achieve at that point and that it was necessary to finally let it go.
Levi, on the other hand, represents her reality. The reality she currently lives in is cruel and harsh. However, she can control what she does in it and what she makes of her life in the said reality. In other words, her reality is full of possibilities and various choices. This is in contrast to her dream of a life with Eren, which was impossible to attain. Furthermore, she only had two (2) choices as to what to do with the dream. It was either to keep holding on to it despite its impossibility or to let it go completely.
Thus, it can be said that Eren represents and symbolizes “what could have been”. Whereas, Levi represents “what could be”. Prescinding from this, there really is a good chance of Mikasa and Levi growing closer in the future.

You Can't Save Them All Prologue
Tumblr media
Attack on Titan Modern Detective AU Hange Zoe x Fem! Reader Series Masterlist
Synopsis: Hange and the rest of the BAU take on the case of Y/n L/n, an international superstar who is being plagued with a relentless stalker.
Prologue
"I like when you get mad"
Hange Zoe scrambled into the conference room where her coworkers awaited her arrival. The entire Behavioral Analysis Unit has been chattering and gossiping about the latest case revolving around the international superstar Y/n L/n. Hange, knowing nothing about the woman, was absolutely clueless as to why everyone was making such a big fuss over things, but she figured she would be briefed for hours on this girl by the unit supervisor Erwin Smith, so there was no need to do any outside research just yet.
As Hange entered the room and took her seat, Erwin sent her a curt nod and began the meeting.
"I'm sure everyone is familiar with the case that we have been given so let's dive right into it. Y/n L/n, lead singer in the band 'Corruption at its Finest' has been dealing with a stalker recently. Unlike any ordinary case, this case is to be handled at top-level security because of the status of this celebrity which is why we were brought in instead of the local police force," Erwin begins.
Hange looks at the image on the projector and sees the h/c female who looks to be in her early twenties. As Hange looked through the folder with all of the images for facial recognition, she noticed a few things. The dark circles under her eyes that were poorly concealed, the lack of a smile in any of the pictures, and the cold dead look in her eyes. Just looking at the pictures sent a shiver down her spine.
What the hell happened to her that made her seem so lifeless?
"I can't believe I'm going to get a chance to meet her. I've been a fan of her since I was in middle school!" Armin Arlert, the technical analyst exchanged conversation with Historia Reiss, the communication and media liaison.
Historia smiled and nodded her head enthusiastically, obviously agreeing with Armin's statement.
Eren Yeager, a rookie field agent fresh out of training, rolled his eyes at the two.
"Are you guys seriously fangirling over her? She literally looks brain dead in most of these pictures. A drug addict if I've ever seen one. The only reason she isn't labeled as one is because of her status," Eren scoffed.
Hange listened carefully between the exchanged that the other agents had and realized she had no idea who this superstar was.
"I'm sorry but, I've never heard any of her music," Hange retorts sheepishly.
Armin and Historia's eyes widened at Hange's lack of knowledge of the superstar and Eren rolled his eyes yet again. Mikasa shot an apologetic smile to Hange as if she knew what was going to happen next.
"Come on four-eyes, you're telling me you've never heard of her? Even I have and I just switched to a smartphone from a blackberry a few months ago," Levi chides, making Hange laugh.
Armin and Historia rush over to Hange and Historia pulls out her phone.
"You have to listen to her songs! She's literally amazing. There's a reason she's been nominated for a Grammy every year since her debut in high school," Historia explains.
Hange looks at the contents on Historia's phone and sees a music video being pulled up.
"The goodbyes are getting old, Next time you can go ahead and go I'm tired of begging you to love me"
Hange notes the restraints on the young girl in the video and takes note of the minimal visual effects which adds to the eeriness of the song.
"Why do I cry to sleep? Goodness gracious I'm replaceable You say that I'm too crazy. I guess you were right I guess you were right"
"Well this girl is obviously facing some unresolved trauma. Maybe from a past relationship? We can start there. If her songs are a direct representation of her feelings, then there's evidence of obvious gaslighting and emotional manipulation. Whoever was the influence behind this song could possibly be our lead," Hange interjects when Historia pauses the video.
"That's a good connection Zoe," Erwin remarks.
"Well we have a lot of exes to sort through. She previously dated the bassist in her band Jean Kirstein, and there's an on and off platonic relationship with her best Ymir Fritz. Those are the most recent ones but they started dating after this song came out," Armin chided.
"I can't believe you guys are whipped for this woman and you haven't even met her," Eren scoffed.
Hange quirked an eyebrow at Eren's foul mood, but eventually brushed it off.
"Well I think it's very interesting and I think the better we understand how she became the girl we see in the pictures from today, the easier we can establish a connection between her and the stalker. It could be someone close to her," Hange retorts.
Levi gives Hange a knowing look.
"I understand you want to help her, but this is strictly for the case shitty glasses. Don't go getting attached to her with your hero complex. We don't have the time nor resources to save every overworked celebrity that develops a drug addiction," Levi says.
"I'm not trying to save her! I'm just interested," Hange defends.
Erwin notes the exchange between the two and nods his head, agreeing with Levi.
"Just remember Hange, this case comes first and personal feelings come after. You can't save them all, especially when they don't want to be saved," Erwin says.

Hey! I hope you're well. I started watching AOT and realized that levihan was a ship. And after reading the manga Ive come to the conclusion that they were more than friends if not just friends. Mostly because I saw Levi act with Isabella, a friend and a sister of sorts even Farlan. But with Hange he was just different. And thats what made me feel maybe it really was something more. He was a different Levi with her. All the teasing and the overprotectiveness, the unnecessary sass and hostility sometimes, but that makes me wonder WHY? Why was he like this towards her? And when was the moment he fell for her or decided to befriend her that way that yes I will tease this person from now on. At first I thought its because of how they met maybe but their first meeting was so sweet. Hange seemed impressed by him and he even thanked her for her compliments. I didnt think their interaction would lead to something like this. So what are your thoughts because I wonder alot on this. Also can someon pls tell me why Levi looks at her that way in aot 4 when hange meets the kids with him and says if they dont understand us we'll meet them and teach them. Like. What happened? Thank you !
Hi! I am well, thanks! And thank you for leaving me an ask! I always appreciate hearing what people have to say. I’m gonna try my best to answer your question without going on any tangents lol (but I can’t promise I won’t). This is going to be long.
Mostly because I saw Levi act with Isabella, a friend and a sister of sorts even Farlan. But with Hange he was just different. And thats what made me feel maybe it really was something more.
I 100% agree with this. When I read the manga and watched the anime, I thought maybe Isabel was a love interest (AT FIRST). When I realized she would call him “aniki” (brother) and the way he acted around her (patting her head), I knew there was a different relationship between Isabel and Levi. He saw her as a little sister and was always trying to avoid his two friends from getting into trouble. That’s why he decided for all of them to join the SC after all.
But with Hange he was just different. And thats what made me feel maybe it really was something more. He was a different Levi with her. All the teasing and the overprotectiveness, the unnecessary sass and hostility sometimes, but that makes me wonder WHY? Why was he like this towards her?
I think that the reason Levi had always acted different with her than anyone else was because of their first interaction. It was not in the anime but it WAS in the manga where Hange approaches the trio saying “I was watching you at that crucial moment!” (Not to mention the chapter Hange appears for the first time is called “Hearts” and in 139 we see “...hearts” over her head). At this point, Levi, Farlan, and Isabel were ready to kill Hange since they thought she found out about their plan to kill Erwin. What actually happened was she had seen how cool they all were and wanted to pay them a compliment. Ever since that trio left the underground, Hange was the first person to show them kindness. I don’t think this is something Levi would forget or take lightly. If it were me, I’d definitely remember that moment. I know there is a post somewhere comparing how Levi looked at Hange for the first time vs how he admired the nature outside the walls for the first time. After Farlan and Isabel died, who did he have? Practically no one. It’s my own HC but I’d like to think that Hange stuck by his side. Levi and Hange both have lost so many comrades that they found solace in each other. They bonded through grief I suppose. Also, I think Levi was intrigued by Hange’s personality. Their personalities complement each other: Hange is extroverted, loud, messy; Levi is introverted, quiet, reserved, clean.

When I first saw them, I definitely felt some romantic attraction of sorts. We eventually learn he is a clean freak, yet he has no issue grabbing her hair (which probably was greasy and unclean). Also, I believe that wasn’t in the manga and Isym requested it be added? I can be wrong with that, but I think that if there was nothing planned for their relationship, he wouldn’t have requested it. From the second I saw them, they reminded me of an old married couple. The way they bickered and how Hange never felt threatened by him.
One of my favorite scenes is when Hange enters the room that Levi’s squad is in at the castle.
E: Oh, I’m not sure if I have the authority to help you.
H: Levi, what is Eren doing tomorrow?
L: Cleaning the courtyard.
H: Okay! It’s settled!
See how she doesn’t ask permission? See how Levi doesn’t retaliate? If it were anyone else, I’m sure that 1) someone wouldn't ask that and 2) Levi wouldn’t have responded that way. We have seen all throughout the anime and manga that he usually goes along with whatever she wants to do. Remember in the OVA where Levi grabs her and yells at her? She doesn’t retaliate from his tone either. She SMILES at him. Why? Because he is expressing concern for her. He is showing he cares about her (also he’s grabbing her and bringing her close again). Eventually at the end of the OVA, we see how Levi tells Hange that Erwin agreed to capture titans for experimenting.

And when was the moment he fell for her or decided to befriend her that way that yes I will tease this person from now on… Also can someon pls tell me why Levi looks at her that way in aot 4 when hange meets the kids with him and says if they dont understand us we'll meet them and teach them. Like. What happened? Thank you !
I am not sure if there was a specific moment, but I do believe it definitely developed over time. One specific moment is the one you mentioned later on in your message, “If you don’t know something, go figure it out. Isn’t that what the Survey Corps is all about?” Levi looks at Hange almost in a surprised manner. In my biased LH eyes, it shows that Hange really is a brilliant and wonderful Commander, and Levi is appreciating her and her intelligence. In reality, it is most likely because it is something similar to what Erwin would have said as Commander. In all seriousness, her statement is entirely true. I think we can all learn from and use that statement in our everyday lives. But I think that in this moment, he possibly starts to realize how much he admires the Commander. We can also see Hange taking her own advice in chapter 126? 127? Where she forms the alliance with Pieck. She is not sure how to stop the Rumbling, so she goes to figure out how she can by talking with Pieck. As it turns out, she is successful in forming the alliance.
Overall, I think that Hange and Levi complement each other perfectly. Even if you aren’t looking too deep, I think their relationship is quite obvious. I mean… why would you ask someone to live with you if you didn’t care for them or even love them? I think that this is one of the points that other shippers bring up to break up LH (how L dislikes H or vice versa). Levi didn’t reject her. If Isym wanted him to reject her, he would’ve made him say something similar to Erwin’s “Give up on your dreams and die” statement when Erwin stated his selfish dream and was willing to sacrifice all of humanity for his selfish desire. Hange told him while he was unconscious and “not listening”, and he didn’t reject her. He says “if we run and hide, what will that get us?” and “I know you aren’t able to stay out of the action” when he sees her building the cart. We also see Levi “confess” or “respond” in 132 to Hange’s statement in 126. “Dedicate your heart”?? OMG Do not get me started on that lol.
Getting back on track, the pair is almost always together in the anime. They’re together in the manga panels when they don’t have to be. They don’t even need to speak actual words to communicate. They are the sun and moon, two wings of a bird. Levi is almost always looking at Hange in the official fanarts. We know from the smartpass AU’s that Hange says “he is a good guy” and “he doesn’t say what he means.” That’s why I think they use nicknames frequently. Four-eyes could be seen as an endearing comment coming from him. Also, Levi making Hange chocolates in the Junior High manga?!?!! Oh, yeah, its definitely to shut her up.
Im sorry for the huge tangent but I hope some of this answered your question. I enjoy reading the levihan analysis’ from other blogs. Thank you for reading if you did read this far. Have a good day/afternoon/night <3

is it possible to ship levihan but hate hange?
I have been asking this question to myself because god knows how levi doesn't sit right with me, but reading your analysis made me wonder why the fuck did i hate him before. I used to blame him for what happened to hange. yes, maybe i am dumb.
anyways, you're a blessing to this fandom. thank you very much for feeding us.
Thank you for the ask Anon and of course, thank you for your kind words! This made my evening and of course gave me some fuel to rant for the nth time about how much I love these two idiots.
is it possible to ship levihan but hate hange?
No, I actually don’t think so. I think everyone who ships Levihan is an avid Hange stan. I think it requires a minimum amount of love for Hange to actually ship her with Levi.
I mean, given the amount of people who love Levi and his overall role in the story, we have people of course shipping Levi with Erwin and shipping Levi with Eren. To actually like a ship, I generally feel like we all have to like both people in the ship? I mean the whole point of wanting them to be lovey dovey and wanting to explore their dynamic is because we’re fascinated with them as characters right? And why would you read fanfiction and draw fanart of a character you don’t even like.
And I actually thought about this because I do hang around twitter sometimes and I noticed a pattern among Mobuhan shippers… (Correct me if I’m wrong) but what I noticed is that Mobuhan tends to be a secondary pairing for a lot of shippers? Like they would ship Mobuhan specifically because they ship Levi with someone else. Like I did see a lot of twitter profiles had the tendency to scream… AVID ERERI SHIPPER/ AVID ERURI SHIPPER and btw I like Mobuhan.
Levi is an incredibly popular character and he is a top 1 character for a lot of people and if those people are shippers, then of course they’ll ship Levi with someone? I mean, come on give me a shipper who loves Levi and just wants Levi to live alone (or maybe they ship Levi with themselves I dunno). And given the most popular pairings… most of these people probably ship Levi with either Eren or Erwin if not Hange. (Are there other popular Levi ships?) and when they do ship them and they are an avid shipper, sometimes they do have secondary pairings, and sometimes they ship Moblit and Hange by default.
Don’t get me wrong, I find Moblit and Hange an incredibly cute ship. And I think there are a lot of Hange stans who just genuinely like Moblit with Hange.
But the point really I wanted to make is that, one needs to be a Hange stan to actually be on board with the whole idea of Levihan.
And my general understanding behind it is this:
If people hate Hange or ‘they just don’t like her too much,’ they usually see her as some sort of crazy scientist character which is the general interpretation for a lot of casual fans since I have mentioned in previous metas that Hange is chronically criminally misinterpreted and underestimated by fans.
Levi on the other hand is incredibly celebrated by the fandom and we all know that by the amount of ships and the amount of hype he gets. And generally, we get more explicit character exposition overall for Levi than Hange. (Just look at season 3, it’s all Levi exposition) Tbh, he literally gets exposition everytime he shows up, the whole reason why so many people love Levi in the first place.
And compared to other ships, Levihan isn’t generally fetishized. Like sure we do get our fair share of smut fanfiction but a lot of the more popular Levihan fanfiction and posts from what I can see are generally those that celebrate Levi and Hange’s bond more than they fetishize them as a couple. For one, they’re not a male x male couple after all and the male x male couples are generally the ones that get this treatment.
And for people to appreciate the actual non malexmale relationship for Levihan and for people to actually headcanon, write fanfiction, draw fan art and generally want to explore something without the need to fetishize it, they need to have a more in-depth understanding or interpretation overall for Hange’s character which given the state of Hange’s portrayal in canon, requires some emotional investment and some analysis to get into.
Like to be frank, it took some more effort on my end to explore the relationship of Hange and Levi since it was more subtle in canon compared to Eruri. Eruri leading up to season 3 had more explicit portrayals definitely and I completely understand the reason behind shipping Erwin and Levi honestly. (I’m not even against Eruri at all. I do read my fair share of Eruri fics and metas because I love their bond as well.)
Hange on the other hand, although she has her moments, she just generally has this I’ll do my best to stay happy and confident because I'm a commander type of demeanor. And even before she was commander, she did have this happy-go-lucky demeanor and of course, she doesn’ have a backstory so what really is there to explore with Hange’s character right?
We get the ‘I’m tired,’ and in the anime, the scene after Eren attacked her. But Hange’s quick to bounce back. She gets no flashback. She gets no in depth-discussion or explicit proof of her vulnerability and that’s why it’s so easy for people to brush off whatever stuff she goes through.
Like jfc just think 132?? Even when hange was walking to her death, she was literally smiling. She didn’t even have a moment of ‘regret’ unlike Erwin where we had this whole exposition about his regrets and how he would have wanted to see the basement.
All we got from Hange was a ‘that’s that.’ and a ‘please let me go,’ and terrified face hidden behind a smile. And what was the last face they showed before she died? She was smiling. Till the last moment, Hange did not complain, she did not actively show her vulnerability as a character. She never complained. She never talked about her regrets.
The only hint of vulnerability we did get was  a ‘let me go.’ then some nervous Hange then her smile that quickly fell for a second.
And which other character rarely explicitly verbalizes their desires? Which character just grins and bears whatever bullshit comes their way? LEVI.
I know I mentioned Levi does get a lot of exposition but if you notice the exposition never comes directly from Levi. Usually it’s from Petra, his squad, Kenny, etc etc. Levi just like Hange never explicitly shows his vulnerability. Hange is just a tad unlucky on the exposition part because no one ever really bothered to say something along the lines of “BY THE WAY HANGE HAS DEPTH” in the actual narrative.
And given that really interesting commonality between Levi and Hange, I just have to point out that their inability or refusal to verbalize their desires is one of the main reasons why they’re two of my favorite characters.
They don’t actively verbalize their desires yet it’s so apparent in their actions and as a stan, I want them to be happy. I want to explore their depth and it just seemed so natural that it’s both of them right? Especially given what had been going on in Season 4. And just look at the fanart? The dynamics of the survey corps post Season 4. If 132 happened, it would have been Hange and Levi living together..
So when people do ask why I ship Levihan for Levi and for Hange? I tend to ask really… who else do I ship them with? It just seemed like the most natural ship to fall into place.
Anyway, I really hope I managed to answer your question. Thank you for the ask again.
