absolutely no chance that Jack O’Neill, after finding out what Sam Carter said to Colonel Maybourne in “Foothold,” didn’t ask her to tell him that story every day for a month

This destruction of the authority of the Scripture made it possible for LGBT+ groups to gain a foothold in Christian institutions, especially in colleges and universities.

Stargate fandom confession: it seems to be a fan favorite line, but I don't like Sam's "Maybourne, you are an idiot every day of the week. Why couldn't you have taken one day off?!" line. It just feels too transparently written, the writer going, "Look at the clever line I just wrote."
2nd confession: I also don't enjoy the "wacko" moment of Window of Opportunity, I always skip it whenever watching Stargate best-of scene compilations.
I can totally see where you’re coming from with both of them. I love how we all feel so differently about the same show. I like being able to share and discuss opinions with others like this, with no judgement. Like I said, I see where you’re coming from, I just happen to feel differently. You could totally be right about the writers and Sam’s line in foothold, but I also see it as taking her frustration out on a very trying person whose help she desperately needs. As for poor Jack in Window of Opportunity, I see it as the repetition and feeling of being stuck finally catching up with him. He was allowing himself to feel and react to his situation before going back to being the strong soldier that he is. He just needed to take a break and let it out. Sorry, I didn’t mean to babble on and on, I just enjoy being able to talk about our different points of view and how we interpret the same media. :)

A Foothold
“O Lord,” I prayed, “have mercy on me. Heal me, for I have sinned against you.” Psalm 41:4NLT
As I read this scripture and meditated on it, I received a download from Holy Spirit of the likes I’ve never had before. We’re going to take this text scripture apart and chew on it for the next few devotionals. Should you be like me, this will kick you in the booty. It’s going to take a total retraining of my mind, which I’ve started praying for help with already. Help us all, Lord.
Verse4 will rock the theologians’ learning and ourselves as well. Look at Psalm 38:5NLT “My wounds fester and stink because of my foolish sins.” Sickness coming from sin? Not bacteria? Viruses? Generational diseases? Even accidents which happen? Is that possible? Does sin open the door for the devil? I’m not saying sin is the only possible reason. Sometimes there’s testings and trials too.
Check list— The whole armor in place? Ephesians 6:10-18. Living in the secret place? Psalm 91. God’s Word is our shield and fortress of protection. We’re impregnable. How then is it even remotely possible sickness is allowed?
“When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would make arrangements for them to be purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom” Job 1:5NIV. Job is about one man with a test of faith no human ever wants to endure. Allowed by God — Administered by satan. (Satan is where ALL consequences comes from for every fear and sin.)
What grieved God enough to allow Job’s test? Fear? “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” 1John 4:18ESV. Living in fear of something is not being “perfected in love,” hence it’s sin.
Are we perfected ‘in love?’ We’re being perfected by Holy Spirit, (an ongoing process), throughout every area of our lives. Everyone born into this world satan teaches how to fear, then uses fear as puppet strings to control us. Not true? Why did so many Believers get the COVID vaccine? Media blitz ‘fear campaign’ pulled the string— conquering death— ‘stay alive’ —Believers and unbelievers also lined up to ‘help mankind’ ‘not spread the disease.’ (Which we now know was a blatant lie.)
Lou and I’s son was born premature with 85% retardation per the EEG; a partially formed epiglottis; an enlarged heart, and a pneumothorax condition. While I carried him, I was in an auto accident, which put me in the hospital to keep from miscarrying him. Afterwards, I frequently ‘feared’ about birth defects. Praise God for healing him and overcoming my fears.
Whenever satan causes us to fear, he’s got a foothold to put some form of illness on us or release the curse of generations’ past.
Why is fear a sin? Actually fear is faith. It’s having more faith in satan to bring bad things than in God to give us good things. Since writing this tri-devotional, I became deathly ill. I’ve found out much of this theory is accurate. But I’ve written about that part of the story for you to read already.
Perhaps, as a reader, you want to dismiss what I say as being nonsense. Search it out for yourself. Never take what anyone says at face value. Minimally, pray and ask Holy Spirit about it. It’s your choice. You choose.
LET’S PRAY: Almighty God forgive us for allowing fear to dominate us, leading us into sin. Help us to hear what we say before we say something, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

oh, is it true
7x05 coda
Marisol hovers for a moment, awkward, then takes a step back. “So… I’m going to go home,” she says. “If we’re starting from the beginning…”
“Right,” Eddie says. “A little early for a sleepover.”
“I guess I’ll come back tomorrow and, uh—” she gestures at the boxes. “Probably shouldn’t just leave them all hanging around.”
“I’m on shift tomorrow,” Eddie says.
Marisol holds up her key.
“Uh, right,” Eddie says again. “Then I guess… I’ll see you when I see you?”
Something flits across Marisol’s face, but it’s gone before he can figure out what it is. “See you,” she says, and turns for the door.
Eddie feels like he should say something, but he’s still trying to decide on what that would be by the time the door slips shut.
And he’s—he’s not relieved. He’s not. Or if he is, it’s just because this whole unresolved mess has been hanging over his head like the sword of Damocles.
Sword’s still there, some helpful part of him reminds him. You just stepped out of range for a moment.
Depends on what the sword is, he tries to argue, then sighs. He can’t keep track of the metaphor. Definitely not enough to debate himself about it.
Buck would get it, he thinks. Buck would go off on some tangent to explain what the sword of Damocles actually was, and probably tell him he’d gotten it wrong. He’d have some much better analogy to wrap it all up in, and would probably make the entire situation make more sense.
For a moment his fingers hover near his pocket, itching to get out his phone and call Buck. To ask if he’s doing the right thing, or just kicking the can down the road a little. Since the sword is still—
Whatever the fuck the sword is, Marisol is still an ex-nun and Eddie’s not sure if he’s quite right enough with God for that.
But he can’t call Buck, because he’d walked out of Buck’s loft half an hour ago with firm instructions to call Tommy, and he can’t interrupt that. He’s already crashed their date, which—
Oh, God. The date. No wonder Buck had been acting so strange. The urge to call comes over him again, stronger now, to apologise for walking in on something that must have been so nerve-wracking already, but—
He remembers the way Buck’s face split into a smile when he said I can’t stop thinking about him, and he sighs and crosses his arms. This isn’t about him and his problems. It’s about Buck, who looked happier than Eddie has seen him in—months, probably. Happier than he’d been with Natalia, for sure. He doesn’t know if he’s ever seen that particular look on Buck’s face, giddy at the mere thought of a person and full of joy and hope for the future.
And suddenly, there’s a thousand things he wants to ask Buck.
How had he known? How had he been sure? How had he trusted that the little flutter in his gut meant something real?
How had he been brave enough to try?
But the questions will have to wait. Because at this very moment Buck is calling Tommy, his nerves smoothing out into that giddy little smile when Tommy agrees to see him again. Which he will, because Tommy isn’t an idiot.
Maybe they’ll stay on the phone for a while. Maybe Tommy will say something that makes Buck blush, hints of bright red appearing at the tips of his ears and the very tops of his cheekbones. Maybe Buck will flirt back, and his voice will waver a little but he’ll manage to bring it home, and Tommy will laugh low in his ear.
So—no, Eddie can’t interrupt that. No matter how many questions he may have.

god i love how much use the first soulfire base still gets. it's covered in ice and open holes and its known, if they're there they are in active danger of being attacked by their enemies. their blood stains don't wash out of the frozen sands. but it's home. it's a home. and they've lost so much, but they refuse to lose their home

bringing some of this out of previous tags, but something incoherent about the escalation of ‘dolls’ throughout the series, and the (obviously gendered) difference between ‘dolls’ and ‘puppets.’ including but not limited to:
john’s first forays into necromancy as puppeteering ‘Titania’ and ‘Ulysses,’ who are explicitly named as ‘extensions’ of john, which progress to the puppeteering of the world leader, which progresses to the apocalypse and john fashioning the parts of earth he doesn’t consume (alecto) a barbie-shaped vessel.  back in gideon the ninth, cytherea’s puppeting (explicitly called this, i believe) of protesilaus, to be contrasted with cytherea’s own doll-like position. both in her posturing as someone who needed to be carried, adjusted, coddled and in the broader uncanniness of pretending to be dulcinea septimus, of being a passable but undead ‘fake’ substitution of the living ‘real’ dulcinea.* all of the victorian energy also undeniably relevant. all of this progressing to cytherea’s body being a doll? a puppet? a weapon? for commander wake in harrow. the role she forced upon others and enacted being enacted on her own body in death.  rocking back up to nona, where images of dolls and puppets abound. though ianthe describes it as puppeting, naberius body is described, by others, in a way that’s much more suggestive of a barbie doll (“fashion hair” echoes the “hollywood hair barbie”). and naberius, furthermore, stands apart from the multitude of soldiers ianthe is also controlling from a distance. mixed with corona getting quite literally dolled up (hair refashioned, and ianthe’s fixation on the poor condition of corona’s hair, and put into a dress) once pulled back under ianthe’s control (to whatever degree we believe her to be). the doll as a particular extension of oneself, perhaps laced with intimacy? naberius as the conduit through which ianthe can (insufficiently) touch coronabeth; john’s romantic desire for annabel (and his occasional inability to sleep without her comforting him); even the fact that naberius becomes the vessel for palamedes and conduit through which he and camilla can become paul. (noting that camilla and palamedes sharing a body is framed outside of this language, possibly because camilla actively consents, for good or ill, to the process?)  (in dialogue with all of this, the way BOE encodes the lyctors as ancient weapons, and kiriona’s assertion that she is fulfilment of the nine house’s arts, stronger than titanium, faster than a speeding bullet: a weapon in the shape of a corpse, a prince, a girl. [to be a very dead weapon-body rather than a tragically alive one.] [also, as an aside, how her mother conceived of her: a bomb in the shape of a baby.] [also obviously related is that the out-of-house derogatory term for necromancers and cavaliers being, respectively, zombies and minions.])  i do not have a thesis statement, of course, but i think there is a clear development of a theme and some symbols and language that may be helpful to return to later or to unpick some of the various (and very gendered) ways agency is or is not present in necromancy.  * very known, but i think the fact that cytherea and dulcinea are both subjected to the same cancer-eugenics and arrive at a near indistinguishable state, that they are in some ways duplicates of each other, takes on a really compelling sheen in the wake of her comment that john, explicitly, is building a static society.
