Because it’s better than looking at his co-star being brutalized. Because it’s better than looking at a chimp he thought was his friend covered in another person’s blood. The shoe is a miracle in the middle of a horrific incident. Steven Yeun’s character waits for the “other shoe” to drop. It never does. Not until years and years and years later. Not until he believes himself special, and thinks of that shoe as some kind of blessing. He’s the chosen one. He wasn’t. He’s eaten, just like everyone else.

What a wonderful, fun, inspiring film. I laughed (a lot). I cried (unexpectedly). Was it heavy-handed with the messaging regarding feminism and the patriarchy? Yes.

In the most necessary way.

We needed this.

The way he held her after she turned back into a mermaid. The way he went right after her. The way he chose her again even knowing the truth. The way she saved him. The way he wanted to go right back into the ocean to get her. The way she was lying on the rock staring at the castle like she’d been there all day. The way he was so relieved to see her again. The way he rested his head on hers like she brought him an endless sense of peace. The kiss. The way he got married in the same outfit he wore the whole movie. 😩😩😩😩😩😭😭😭😭😭

Nope was so good that it made me mildly antsy in the theater. once it gives you a good look at what the antagonistic force actually is and what it actually does you become absolutely terrified for the rest of the movie any time there’s a threat of it coming back onscreen because you’re just thinking “oh god, please don’t show me That again”

So I saw the barbie movie. It was awesome.

I forgot to take photos in the theater, but I did wear pink as is mandatory to see the movie. I think I looked rather fabulous. Everyone should watch the movie, it was amazing.
