Play Day

A Dead Poet’s Society agere fic :3

On Saturday morning, Charlie was awoken early by a knock on his door. He blinked groggily, propping himself up and yawning as Cameron groaned from across the room. “Get the door, Charlie.” He mumbled into his pillow. Charlie sighed and hoisted himself out of bed, stumbling towards the door as the knocking continued. “Yeah, hold your horses I’m coming!” He called. Opening the door, Charlie squinted tiredly at the two boys in front of him. Neil looked back at him with equally tired eyes as he carried the other boy (who Charlie assumed was Todd) like a koala.

“Hey.” Neil said.

“Hi?” Charlie said, very confused.

Todd whined and Neil bounced him up and down gently. Charlie mouthed a quiet oh and stepped out of his room, making sure to shut the door quietly behind him. “What’s up?” He whispered, checking his watch. 6:30. “I promised Todd we could have a little day today, but my dad called last night to say he was picking me up to meet some ‘work friends’” Neil sighed, rubbing Todd’s back. Charlie nodded, leaning against the door in anticipation. “So… You want me to watch him?” Neil nodded. “If it’s not too much trouble, that’d be great!”

Charlie bit his lip in consideration. He had already told Meeks and Pitts that he would take care of them while they have a little day, could he really take care of another kiddo? But then he looked at Todd, whose face was pressed into Neil’s shoulder, and knew that he could. He smiled at Neil and nodded, chuckling at his sigh of relief. After a moment of fussing, Neil was able to put Neil down in front of Charlie. “Alright bub, Uncle Charlie’s going to take care of you today, so I need you to be extra good, okay?” He said gently. Todd sniffled and nodded, rubbing his runny nose with his sleeve. “Be back soon?” Todd whispered, looking nervously towards Charlie. Neil hesitated before pulling Todd into a big hug. “I will be back as soon as I can, baby.”

“Promise?” Todd sniffles.

“I promise.” Neil said, ruffling his baby’s hair.

After getting everything situated (they decided to use Neil and Todd’s room so as not to disturb Cameron), Charlie pulled Neil to the side. “Would it be alright if Meeks and Pitts joined us? I kind of told them we could have a regression day as well.” Neil tilted his head thoughtfully. “I don’t have an issue with it, but let Todd know first, he doesn’t do well when plans change so suddenly.” Charlie made a noise of understanding and walked over to sit next to Todd, who was currently playing with a red stuffed dragon on the floor. “Hey bud,” he said gently, “that’s a pretty neat stuffy!” Todd nodded shyly, making the dragon fly up and down between him and Charlie. “His name’s Bart.” He mumbled. Charlie nodded, reaching out to pat the dragon.

“Hey, Todd? How would you feel about having a playdate with Meeks and Pittsy today? I know it’s a bit short notice, but I’m sure they would love to play with ya!” Charlie said, smiling as Todd perked up and looked at Neil.” It’s okay buddy, whatever you choose.” Neil said. Todd looked back down at his dragon quietly. “Ummm… they wanna?” He asked, looking slightly skeptical. Charlie chuckled. “Of course, bud, they love playing with others!” Todd gave a small smile, rocking and forth while he thought. “Mmm, okay!” He said. Charlie ruffled his hair and Neil smiled down at him. “Thank you bud.” Charlie said. “I am so proud of you honey.” Neil chuckled, kneeling down and holding his arms out for a hug, which Todd gratefully gave.

“Well, I think my dad should be getting here soon.” Neil sighed, giving Todd one last squeeze. Charlie nodded and stood up. “You want us to walk you out?” He asked. Neil shook his head, frowning at his watch. “Naw, it’s probably for the best only I go, I don't want my dad to ask questions.” Todd huffed, folding his arms over his chest and frowning. “Hey, that’s alright,” Charlie said, patting Todd’s shoulder softly, “we can watch from the window, right Todd?”

Todd shrugged, looking down at the floor and shuffling his feet.

Then a horn sounded outside, and Neil cringed. “That would be my dad. You guys got everything you need? Toys? Clothes? Snacks?” Charlie nodded, looking at the bin at the end of Todd’s bed. “I think so, you go have as fun a time as you can with the old man and we’ll see you tonight, yeah?” Neil smiled at Charlie and ruffled Todd’s hair before heading out the door. Immediately, Todd was at the window, watching the car speed off with Neil in it.

Charlie sighed, going to the window and pretending not to notice Todd’s tears. “Hey, we’re going to have a great day today, alright?” Todd nodded quickly, wiping his eyes and leaning against Charlie, who wrapped a protective arm around his shoulder. “Da best day…” He whispered.

Soon, Charlie took Todd to wake up Meeks and Pitts, who were more than happy to let Todd tag along on their little day. Meeks even offered some of his animal crackers to Todd, who had been hiding quietly behind Charlie ever since Neil left. At the mention of animal crackers however, his eye lit up and he creeped out from behind Charlie reaching his hand out carefully and taking the treat. After that, the two were fast friends. Pitts however was a different story. Since both boys were so shy, getting the two to play with each other proved a difficult task, one that Charlie wasn’t sure he was going to be able to accomplish until they ended up solving it on their own.

It was early afternoon. They had all had some lunch and were playing quietly in Todd’s room, Meeks and Todd with their stuffys and Pitts toddling about with his stuffed bear as Charlie finished up some homework. Suddenly, Pitts tripped over a wooden block, tumbling roughly across the carpeted floor and hitting his head against one of the beds. All went quiet. Then Pitts started crying, quietly at first but then louder, sobbing into the floor as Charlie rushed to his side and helped him sit up. Meeks was by his side almost as fast as Charlie, watching as Pitts tried to sign something (he usually went nonverbal when regressed) and then giving him a big hug.

“ S’okay, Pit, s’okay.” Meeks said. Todd stood back awkwardly, watching as Charlie checked the boo boos and tried to make sure his head was okay. Pitts wrapped tightly to Meeks, just like Todd had wrapped around Neil earlier, and Todd started to worry his bottom lip in concern. What could he do? Pitts was crying, and at this rate Meeks would soon follow. Charlie was looking around for the band aids and trying to keep everyone calm at the same time, but it was pretty clear that he was struggling, and if they didn’t stop the crying soon someone would be sure to come check on them. So Todd made up his mind, walked towards his bin, and pulled out a small lunch box. Carefully, with his dragon and lunch box in hand, he walked over to the others. He tugged on Charlie’s sleeve and offered up the lunch box, smiling at Charlie’s sigh of relief when he opened it to see an assortment of first aid items. Then, he walked over to Pitts and Meeks and tapped the crying boy on the shoulder. Pitts looked up in confusion, his eyes red and puffy as he stared at the other boy.

Slowly, Todd held out his dragon. Pitts looked between the stuffy and Todd, his sobs changing to small snuffles as the dragon “flew” closer to him. After a moment's hesitation, Pitts unwrapped himself from Meeks, reached out and grabbed the dragon, holding it close and looking into its face as Charlie began to patch up his knees. The older boy looked over to Todd and smiled. “Thanks Toddy, that was really cool of you.” Todd smiled bashfully and went back to his bin, pulling out a different dragon, this one green with purple spots, and sitting down.

After Pitts was all fixed up, he and Meeks toddled back over to where Todd was sitting, and Pitts handed Meeks the dragon so that he could sign. Play together? He asked. Todd nodded excitedly and pulled out one more dragon, all golden, and offered it up to the others. Charlie chuckled and watched for a moment before going back to his homework and listening to the boy’s roar and make flying sounds.

As the day turned to night, and the little ones got sleepier and sleepier, Neil returned from his day out, thoroughly burnt out. As he made his way to his room, he heard the sound of laughter and roaring coming from inside and smiled, pushing open the door and stifling a laugh at what he saw. There was Charlie, a blanket wrapped around his shoulders like wings and a cone of paper on his head, chasing the boys, who all had little sticks Neil assumed were swords, around the room. As soon as the door opened, they all froze, turning to stare at Neil, before Todd squealed and ran to him. “Dada!” He shouted, hugging him tightly as Meeks and Pitts turned back to fight the “dragon”. “HI baby!” Neil laughed, kissing the top of Todd’s head gently. “Did you have a good day?”

“Ya!” Todd said, turning to look at his friends with a smile, “Da best!”

Pt. 5 of Dead Poets Society Headcanons, age regression edition

Charlie, even tho he’s the clown of the group, is also the main caregiver of the boys when they regress

Todd often regresses due to anxiety

Neil often regresses due to stress, which happens more often than he wants to admit

The first time Neil regressed in front of Charlie he was complaining about his dad

Charlie wasn’t sure what to do but he noticed the regression and just started treating him with what was appropriate with how he was acting

Todd was really nervous to tell Neil that he regresses, and the first time it happened and he came out of it, he apologized over and over again

Meeks is the secondary caregiver and is usually first to notice when one of them regresses

Todd, even tho he’s often quiet, makes little childlike noises when he regresses, he tries to hide them sometimes but Meeks knows better

Neil’s eyes go sort of soft and blurry and his motor control isn’t as great

Pitts is also an age regressor, although it happens less frequently than Neil and Todd

Only Meeks knows about Pitts regression, and calls him baby boy when he does regress

Knox had no idea how to handle the boys when they regress when it first started, but soon he became Todd’s favourite one to play with when he regressed

Cameron wasn’t sure what age regression was, and at first thought it was a bit silly. Until he had a long talk with Neil about it. And now even he regresses sometimes

Cameron only regresses when he’s alone tho. He doesn’t feel safe telling the other boys. Even tho he knows Charlie would take care of him if he knew

Neil had a special stuffy for when he regresses, its a stuffed giraffe

Todd also had a special stuffy for when he regresses, its a stuffed bunny that Neil gave him, its name is Neil

Todd becomes very cuddly when he regresses, Charlie likes it when Todd curls up on his lap and he plays with Todd’s hair

Neil can be a brat sometimes when he regresses. Charlie knows not to push, he knows age regression is a safe place for Neil so he tries to be calming and understanding

Knox likes giving Neil and Todd piggy back rides when they regress

One time, after a very stressful exam week, Cameron accidentally regressed in front of Charlie in their room. Charlie spotted it because Cameron was giggling and Cameron does not giggle, and then he put his shirt in his mouth and started sucking on it. Charlie went straight into action mode, he grabbed the things he has for Neil and Todd when they regress and played caregiver for Cameron

When Cameron came out of it, he didn’t admit it at first, refusing to admit that he was an age regressor but finally admitted it because Charlie’s hands in his hair felt far too nice for it to stop

Sometimes after a rough week, Pitts makes a blanket fort in his and Meeks’ room to help Meeks regress and calm down. Meeks will crawl into the blanket fort and cuddle against Pitts as Pitts reads him a book, usually something nerdy or sci-fi

Meeks also has a pacifier, its green and has a decal of the pi symbol, because even when little, he’s a math nerd

(Writing all of these headcanons makes me want to write a fanfiction based off of them? What do yall think?)

I just feel like all of those boys need to be able to relax once and a while and Mr. Keating would be over the moon to help his boys out and be even more thrilled that they all feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable and small around him. Anyways that's all, have a great day!💜💜💜

Cg!Mr. Keating and Little!DPS Headcanons :3

General:

Keating loves these boys like they were his own

As such he makes sure they all have a place to go that they know will be safe if they can't regress in their own room or if their cg is away

This place ultimately ends up being his office, in which he keeps lots of little gear and sensory stuff (well hidden from the prying eye)

They don't trust him all at once (Todd and Cameron take the longest), but eventually they all spend many a Saturday playing in Mr. Keating's office while he does some paperwork

It's a cozy scene, and one they are all glad of after the long weeks of Hellton

Neil

Neil is, of course, the one who trusts Keating first

He's already something of a parental figure to Neil, so when Niel decides to open up about his regression, nothing really changes

He does treat him a bit gentler when regressed, less pushing and more gentle persuasion (this really goes for all the boys)

Neil LOVES it when Keating reads to him, so he makes sure to buy his favorite books whenever he can

Lots of Arthurian Fairytales and Adventure Stories

Keating will also play whatever role Neil needs him to play in the shows he puts on with his stuffies

(He usually ends up playing the "scary" villain or the wise old wizard)

Neil isn't very used to physical affection from a parental figure, so it takes a while for him to warm up to Keating's casual hair ruffles or back pats

The second Neil gets uncomfortable, Keating stops, but it can be difficult to tell at times

Neil is very good at hiding how he truly feels

Keating actually has an oddly hard time telling when he's regressed if he's not told

But the second Neil comes into his office upset, he is ready to accommodate whatever he needs

Pacifier? On it

Comforting words? A whole notebook full

Someone to sit and listen? He's always had a good ear

He ends up being just what Neil needs in the absence of his own father

Todd

Again, he takes the longest out of all the poets to trust Mr. Keating enough to regress around him

He and Cameron usually just sat off to the side, watching the others play enviously

It wasn't that Todd didn't want to play, but the idea of being that vulnerable in front of others made him want to puke

No matter how much he tried to hide his discomfort, Keating always seemed to know what he was feeling

He was very good at making sure Todd was still included even if he wasn't comfortable enough to regress around him

Offers to take care of the others usually disguised an excuse for Todd to play and have fun while still being comfortable

Eventually the two had a conversation about Todd's feelings on regressing in front of Keating and the other Poets (which is something Keating would never force him to do)

They came to the decision that Todd would start regressing in front of the others little by little, taking baby steps and pulling back whenever needed

Keating made sure he was comfortable and set up his ground rules with the others for playing with Todd

No teasing, roughhousing, or bullying of any kind was the gist of the rules

The others were very kind and gentle with Todd for the most part (Charlie had a couple mishaps)

Todd still stuck mostly to Neil, but Keating soon become one of the few others he would cling to if he needed reassurance or comfort

He very much acts like a little koala, and Keating is usually fine getting clung to unless he needs to chase down one of the other boys

Keating still tries to get Todd out of his comfort zone, but in a much gentler, slower way.

Charlie

Firstly

Keating and Charlie definitely have a more rough relationship at first

Charlie doesn't have much issue with regressing in front of Keating, but when Charlie's regressed?

He's the brattiest little of all the boys.

Keating knows how to handle it, but he gets a little burnt out after multiple days of Charlie's antics and has to remind himself not to snap

If he does snap, he's always sure to tell Charlie that no, he doesn't hate him, he just needs a calm moment to breathe

Charlie knows to leave him alone then, if only for a moment

The two go back and forth with play arguments quite often

Keating also helps Charlie get his energy out by playing lots of soccer, or even sometimes just chasing him around the room until one of them is too tired to go on

The two get on each others nerves, but at the end of the day Keating just wants to make sure that he is safe and happy

Knox

Keating helps Knox out a lot when he can't understand what the others are talking about

He's very good at putting it into simpler terms for the boy and making sure he doesn't get too lost in the conversation

The two sit down together often to work through any homework he doesn't understand and help make it simpler for him (projecting? me? never!)

Keating is also has no problem going to Knox's other teachers and berating them for bullying him in class

Knox is one of the littles who definitely needs help falling asleep, so the others usually find him napping on Keating's lap while he work out difficult problems or works on grading

Meeks

Keating loves to help Meeks with little expirements when the boy is regressed

Does he understand the science? No, but Meeks does and it makes him happy, so what does that matter?

Keating also lets the Meeks and Pitts use the tv in his room to watch sci-fi programs and historical documentaries whenever he can

Pitts

I don't have much to say about Pittsy

However

I do think that he has a surprising sweet tooth that Keating is more than happy to indulge

He gets Pitts sweets anytime he goes into town

Both Keating and Pitts love red licorice, so they have their own stash set apart from the other snacks

Cameron

Cameron is... difficult

he doesn't regress around the others often

(mainly because he thinks that they really hate him)

but whenever he does, he stays very quiet and tries not to get in the way of their games too much, even though he really does want to play

He is the only one of the Poets that Keating pushes a bit harder to play with the others while regressed, because he knows that the others don't hate him

Keating hates seeing any of his boys feeling left out so, much like with Todd, he always makes sure Cameron has at least one person to play with at all times

He actually usually puts Todd and Cameron together to play because of how shy they both are

Because of this, the two become better friends, and end up sticking together like glue most of the time they are regressed.

Anytime Keating sees the two of them stuck together, he smiles a bit because of how proud he is of them coming out of their shells

Hooo this was a doozy! Loved every second of writing it <3 <3 <3
