Round 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under Cut
Misa Amane
she gets treated in-canon the way fandoms treat female characters that Threaten an m/m ship. it's like, "oh why don't you go sit in the corner and be pretty, misa, while the Men have intelligent conversation and pretend they aren't ten seconds from fucking each other, doesn't that sound nice?" it's infuriating. and MAYBE it's better now but i remember her getting treated the same way in fanfiction too, like we all need to do just as badly by our female secondary characters as fucking tsugumi ohba, but with the added insult of making her be alternately oblivious of the relationship between light and L or actively trying to sabotage it—incompetently, of course, because god forbid misa be allowed dignity or moments of cleverness.
she's one of the first characters I think of when I consider old school fandom misogyny. The annoying bitch and clingy crazy gf allegations were AFTER HER ASS. She's also a lot more intelligent than people gave her credit for, but most seem inclined to take the Very Biased word of our unreliable, narcissistic narrator and his homoerotic arch nemesis and claim that just because she's bubbly and into romance that she's also a complete moron. Which is blatantly untrue. Everyone was afraid of Misa girlbossing too hard. Killing people and devoting yourself to the deranged twink of your dreams even though you know he'll never love you back??? Having a hardcore goth aesthetic and being so Hot even literal Death Gods are into you?? God forbid women do ANYTHING!
Not only is she the victim of yaoi culture, she is the victim of early 2000s misogyny by an author that wanted to introduce a girl character because he knew his male rivals were getting too homoerotic. She is a goth bimbo icon who portrays what I think is one of the few callouts for stan culture and what parasocial relationships can do to both the stan and the idol. The fact that she is a toxic fan of Kira and also hot, funny, sociable is tragic in its own way, which I think the author did try to touch on but was too misogynistic too really get through. Of course, she was reduced to villain status by the fandom and anime alike because she got in the way of the supposed romance in their psychological horror anime.
Téa Gardener/Anzu Mazaki
She's friends with Yugi, the main protagonist, who is usually either shipped with his other self (Yami Yugi), or Yugi/Yami will be shipped with the main antagonist (Seto Kaiba). She tends to get demonised a LOT. I have read SO many stories where she is turned into this evil, scheming harpy of a woman who will get in the way of Twu Wuv.
the fandom does her so dirty bc she's in the way of at least 3 different yaoi ships she's so amazing and underrated tho she's such a great character
Was portrayed as a bitch very often in fandom! Is very not a bitch in canon! Supportive, occasionally snarky, occasional damsel in distress, good card player in her own right (this is important in universe, trust me), and very very loyal!

Doctor Who: Boom Town Is Underrated, I Swear To God
On my rewatch of underrated Nine episodes and I don't understand why people don't like Boom Town. Yes, it's between two of the best two-parters of the RTD era, but it's such a good, solid piece of quiet contemplation, this amazing mix of comedy and drama, this amazing piece of comedy/joy/shenanigans in the front half balanced out with some of the best acting in the entirety of Doctor Who in the back half. Now that I'm writing, I kind of understand why some people aren't here for the more quiet vibe of the dual-date section of the episode, but the concept hits and hits so hard and is so integral to Nine's character development/the Bad Wolf arc and Blon is a fascinating villain and it shows off the dynamic of Rose, the Doctor, and Jack so well (as well as providing some decent Mickey moments, some of the best he gets until the Cyberman arc). Like, it's such a solid piece of television and shows off every character so well AND sets up the power of the heart of the TARDIS and yes, the ending is cheesy, but I don't know why it's so low down on so many people's lists of best episodes of the show.
(Also, Christopher Eccleston does not have a single bad moment of acting as the Doctor and I am constantly in awe of how he's firing on all cylinders in every single moment.)

Saw this. Thought it seemed fun to share the opinions I have that none of you asked for. I'd credit the original creator of it, but I found like 5 people claiming it's theirs 🤷🏻‍♀️
Favourite character: Musa
I feel like this one needs little explaining.
She's been my favourite since I was 9/10 (which, yes, was in 2004 when the show first came out). I'm pretty sure Musa had a major influence on my current taste in women (that is, dark haired tomboys)
Least favourite character: Faragonda
I've got issues with this shady bitch. She acts like she's all for helping her students and then turns around and keeps major secrets from them. Not to mention she sends teenagers on death missions (Saladin gets a pass on this cause that's literally what his students are at Red Fountain to do and Griffin doesn't do it cause she's a queen).
All in all, fuck this woman and her fake-ass grandma attitude.
Favourite villain: Darcy
Yes, specifically Darcy. Stormy is close behind, but I just don't like Icy enough for the trix as a whole to be my favourite.
Darcy not only has, by far, the coolest powers on this show but she's also the most interesting villain. Whereas all the other villains are obviously in it for power or for fun (looking at you, Stormy), it seems like Darcy isn't quite as set on power. She's putting in the effort, but I feel like, if it weren't for Icy (mostly) and Stormy, she would never have seeked out that power.
But also her character design is beautiful. I mean, the 70s aesthetic… amazing.
Least favourite villain: Tritannus
I just really don’t like looking at him.
Also I feel like his story is weak af. Just give him some land (water?) to be duke of or something.
Also also that Tritannus/Icy thing 🤢
Most overrated: Flora
BEFORE YOU SEND ME ANGRY MESSAGES: I do not HATE Flora.
I just don’t understand why people love her so much. I just don't think she’s interesting enough. Canon Flora is boring. She has no spice. All of her flavour comes from what the fans have made of her.
Fanon Flora, love her dearly. Canon Flora, equivalent to flour (heh, get it? Flour, Flower).
Most underrated: Timmy
A king.
This man does not get the love and appreciation he deserves. Not only is he brilliant, he is also adorably nerdy, he is kind, he is loyal, he is patient, he is a god-tier boyfriend, he is a lovable and honest friend.
TLDR: He is too good and pure for this world.
If you dislike this man, kindly remove yourself from my page. That shit will not be tolerated. This is a no Timmy slander area.
Favourite season: Season 2
This season holds both some of my least favourite episodes as well as my most favourites. We’ve got an interesting relationship, me and season 2.
That being said, it holds a special place in my heart. Mainly because of the Musa/Riven development, but also the addition of Aisha.
Least Favourite season: Season 5
I only picked season 5 because i don’t think ive ever seen season 6 or 7 fully. I’ve seen parts of season 6 (the ones that pertained to Musa and Riven), but I don’t think that’s enough for me to judge it properly.
Season 5 is just bad all around: mediocre villain, juvenile, probably some bad Bloom/Sky drama that I blocked from memory, that infuriating episode where they forced Tecna and Timmy to go on a irl date, that stupid ass plot where Musa thought Riven was cheating on her, the fucking ridiculous Helia/Flora/Krystal drama.
Favourite fairy form: Enchantix
Beautiful. Classic. Ethereal.
Least favourite fairy form: Sirenix
The Sirenix song, an absolute bop. Sirenix itself, hard no. It’s just… 🤮🤮
Now, again, I am not considering season 6 and 7 as I haven’t seen them properly. Butterflix is a strong contender for least favourite, though.
Favourite episode: Season 2 Episode 15 – The Show Must Go On (Magic in My Heart in 4kids)
Musa performing for the first time in the show. Musa and her dad starting to work on their relationship. Riven putting himself out of his comfort zone for Musa. It’s beautiful 🥲🥲🥲
Least favourite episode: Season2 Episode 9 – Professor Avalon’s Secret (The Angel of Doom in 4kids)
The one where Tecna trades in her base fairy form's hat for a tinfoil hat.
This episode gives me so much secondhand embarrassment.
Favourite couple: Musa and Riven
I mean…. Yeah, obviously.
Least favourite couple: Aisha and Roy
Nabu should never have died
But he did and I have begrudgingly accepted that
BUT FFS LET AISHA MOURN. You made Nabu her soulmate, made them literally perfect together, killed him, made her rage for A SINGLE episode, be sorta sad for the rest of season 4 and the BOOM! Season 5 happens and she’s basically forgotten Nabu ever existed
NO! NON! JE REFUSE! C’EST D’LA CRISS DE MARDE. NON. NON. NON. NON. NON.
Also Roy’s hair looks like a highlighter. Like, y’all make fun of onion boy's hair (as do I because seriously why the fuck is with Riven's hair design), but this man looks like an office supply that has a single use. Onions are not only good to cook with in almost every single recipe in existence (barring desserts) (I am a very bad cook, so do not question me on this) (I am a great baker though, so I know for a fact that onions and dessert is a no no). but they’re also great for throwing at people!
Favourite sidekicks: The Specialists
Look me in the eyes and tell me you believe these idiots are anything more than sidekicks to their girlfriends.
If you said yes, ask yourself if you can remember them going on a single mission without it being to assist the winx since season 1? No. That’s right. You can’t.
These pretty boys exist solely to assist their girlfriends on missions and be eye candy. That’s it. That’s their purpose in life and they are excelling at it.
Least favourite sidekick: The pets
I hate the pixies, but they had their funny moments. These things on the other hand are abso-fucking-lutely useless.

“She’s from… where again?” Funny turned to his secretary, looking at an unfamiliar woman who was standing next to Steven Steel, talking about something. “She’s from London, sir. Apparently she’s royalty. She’s here to cheer on Diego Brando, I've heard.” Valentine scoffed. “Monarchy. Ugh. Well, bring her over. I want to meet this ‘royalty’ since I'm more than likely stuck with her the entire race.” His secretary ran off while Funny kept his eyes on the woman, observing her every move. She was cute. This was obvious to anyone. Even in the dark of the early morning. The way she smiled as she talked and nodded when others would. Her movements were just… adorable. Even the way she walked as she headed over to Funny Valentine, tucking her hair behind her ear.
“You must be the president of this fine country.” She stuck out her hand to Funny, and he gladly took it. “Yes, I am. I heard you were royalty?” “Why, yes! I'm in line to become queen if all goes well.” “I see. Well, we welcome you to the United States. I hope everything has been grand.” “Oh, more than! I didn't know what to expect coming out here, but it is absolutely stunning. Much better weather than London, I'll give it that.” Valentine giggled, pointing to a few workers where to set up some of the stands for the race. “Is it hard?” Funny turned to her, confused, his mind going to a completely different place. “Sorry?” “Being president of such a huge country? Is it hard?” Funny sighed, his face turning red. “I mean, it's not easy if that’s what you’re thinking. So much land and more people coming in. It's a lot, I'll put it that way. I enjoy it though. I'll do anything for this country.” “You’re a good man.” He turned to her with a kind smile, not once tearing his eyes away from that cute figure. “When does the race start, Mr. President?” “Soon. It should be in a couple of hours.” “My god.” She gasped. “What is it?” She pointed to the sun that was rising, putting beautiful colors on the clouds, turning the world golden. “It's beautiful.” “Isn't it? I never get sick of that sunrise.” “It's… stunning. It's like I barely have any words for it.” “Are there sunrises like this in London?” “I mean, sure, but nothing like this. I can't believe how gorgeous this country is. And,” she turned to Funny, looking him up and down with a smile. “A president to match.” He blushed. “Oh, stop.” “Just teasing, that’s all.” “I like teasing.” Funny’s eyes turned flirtatious as he stepped closer to her. “Aren't you married, Mr. President?” “Oh, I was, my dear. But Scarlet decided to not appreciate what was right in front of her.” “I agree.” She chuckled as Funny leaned down, his warm breath dusting over her neck. “How about after the race starts, you meet me in my office. Let's talk… politics.” “I would like that.” He turned away from her, his long hair flowing behind him as he walked towards Steven Steel to finish setting up the Steel Ball Run, all while she stood there with a soft smile on her face and dusted red cheeks.

April Foollishness : Yellowbeard
Tumblr media
So in the 80's there were a few Python adjacent projects ,this was Graham Chapmans, a parody of pirate films and its brimming with comedy talent :Written by Chapman and Peter Cook, music by John Morris and a cast including Chapman,Cook,Eric Idle ,John Cleese,Madeline Khan ,MArty Feldman ,Peter Boyle ,Kenneth Mars,Cheech & Chong .....and legendary actor JAMES MASON!!! Now this film should be comedy classic......Why have I barely heard of it though?.....
In this 1983 film After 20 years in prision Captain Yellowbeard (Graham Chapman) is forced to team up with his son Dan (MArtin Hewitt) who has the map to his buried treasure tatooed on his head
OK this film starts off on a good note ,like I said the cast is amazing and most of them are pretty great :Madeline Khan gets som laughs as Yellowbeards wife ,Eric Idle is solid as a secret serviceman ,Peter Boyle is a good antagonistic pirate and its fun to see him and Marty Feldman as a duo(Also this is Marty Feldmans final role ,as he died during production) ,John Cleese as a blind informant is pretty funny ,and by GOD Peter Cook is the funniest thing in this movie as this old aristocrat /surrogate father to Dan ,he barely has to move but the way he carries himself makes him so funny.I also was pleasently surprised by Graham Chapman,I thought id find him iritating but watching the film reminded me "Oh yeah Chapman was a legit great and underrated comedic actor " and he really sells this unpleasent ,insane monstrus pirate ,hes pretty good here .Honestly I was laughing for a good half hour......Then the rest of the film just SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKS
I dunno what happens but this went from a pretyy funny movie to garbage as soon as the heroes are forced to join a naval vessel captained by James Mason,(In perhaps his worst performance ,I love James Mason, one of my fave actors ,but he does not look like he wants to be in the film and he isnt even allowed to be funny )Thats also when Yellowbeard kind of dips out of the movie for a bit ,and for movie called Yellowbeard he isnt in it alot .Now to be fair maybe they thought too much Yellowbeard would be exhausting but unfortunately our other lead is Dan who is .....Dull as dishwater. They dont do anything with the fact Dans a thinker or anything substantial with the father son bond .I also think the film suffers from having too many antagonists when Peter Boyle was enough ,and one of the villains is Tommy Chong who.....Is just so miscast as a baddie (Cheech Marin as his assistant however is brillaint ).Theres a love story that comes out of the blue and goes nowhere. My other very big complaint is.....Theres like 10 r*pe jokes ,like more then I expected and they are uncomfortable
Overall, the first half hour works .......But then it keeps going and it doesnt work

oh my god tumblr is not a functional website and it ate my next two drafted asks so prepare to get tagged in textposts but @brambleberrycottage sent The Mentalist and/or Person of Interest for the fandom ask game:
✨ send me a fandom and i'll answer with the following!
Tumblr media
for person of interest:
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
↣ very tough choice but i am gonna have to go with shaw for this one. my second choice probably would be reese tho- but i have to go by what ao3 tags i filter the most 😭
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
↣ BEAR THE DOG.....OBVIOUSLY....... akjdhdjfhf but for real it is probably finch. finch rly is So Shaped to me. i do not want anything bad to happen to him Ever. Protect At All Costs
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
↣ FUSCO. FUSCO IS SUCH AN UNDERRATED FAVE. theres like 10 fics out there about my man fusco and ive reread all of them 100 times aldjfkfhjfgjgj this man just shows up to work every day and tries his best and he gets dragged into some of the craziest world-altering conspiracies known to man and for what ??? he just wants to come home to his son every day. but he cares about people and his friends and the world his son grows up IN, and thats why he sticks by the others no matter what he gets put thru. also he is just very funny and relatable at times akdhdjfhf
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
↣ harper!!! very much obscure but she has a cute lil arc that feels Meaningful and has such a fun energy and she has such an ~ outcome ~ (i will not spoil in case anyone who has not seen this show is thinking of seeing it) and tbh i want to learn everything about her
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
↣ elias. he is very problematic. very controversial. horrible villain crimelord etc etc. but isnt it interesting how this show plays with morality? how much nuance there is? how you slowly learn that finch is right- that there are no heroes or villains, just people doing the best they can??? elias is a terrible person that you would never want to meet in real life but hes MY terrible person you would never want to meet in real life.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
↣ this is reese hands down. sorry not sorry to the traumatized man but i do kind of enjoy you getting more traumatized
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
↣ i guess john greer ???? im not sorry, forget everything i said about nuance hes a villain akdhfdjkfhfj he is the worst im joking but if i have to pick anyone its him
Tumblr media
for the mentalist:
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
↣ its jane. of course its jane. what we have learned about me is i am always stanning traumatized over confident (often middle aged middle aged) men in problematic career paths with emotional issues 😭 its embarrassing how consistent i rly am tbh lmao. but HES SO INTERESTING. HES SO TRAGIC. HES SO MULTIFACETED. i could probably write 600 dissertations about him
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
↣ lisbon is my girl i love her so much i will not take any notes on this she is MY five foot nothing cop with anger management issues and i WOULD die for her. shes probably my height irl but she is !!!! small. i love her
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
↣ cho is so underrated !!!!! he is there from start to finish and he gets his own arcs and his own story and he's level-headed and in charge but he's not emotionless and he's not perfect, he's very good at what he does but he makes mistakes too and he's mature enough to own up to them. his realism and commitment is bracing and reliable and brings such a steady element to the show. couldnt do it without him!!
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
↣ she's really not even on screen for more than like 0.1 seconds of flashback but !!! ANGELA JANE. i know we don't get to know much in the way of cannonical characterization but i have read a lot of fics about her. i think the most influential has to be boy wonder, which is a wonderful how-angela-and-young-patrick-met fic unfortunately trapped on the horrible formatting of fanfiction dot net, but every time i think of angela i think of this fic and it very deeply informed my love for her character.
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
↣ probably laroche. deeply weird man but he just wanted to go home to his little figurines and his fluffy dog. what more could he ask for. very creepy vibe but he did his job well and he came around in the end. i would love to know what sort of life made this man happen. i think about the iconic theater episode with him every day.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
↣ aaaaa once again its jane im so sorry sir i just find your trauma entertaining !!!!!
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
↣ probably bertram because i just think he was way scarier than the sherriff sorry sljfkfjfjg

Top 5 characters from the LoS series :)
And, as an extra challenge, top 5 characters from the main games!
LoS!
5. Raisa Volkova
I love her. I love her concept and how she goes about her ways in the game. She misleads both Gabriel and Zobek from figuring out she's Satan's daughter, until the Demon Virus is already spread amongst the city! She led them into wasting one of the cures on her! My only issue with her, is that her brothers don't get nearly as much screentime as she does, making them not as developed as she is. Still a good villain though!
4. The Toymaker
Funny old man, who deserves way more than he got. His story is well thought out, and is actually a fun puzzle! You get more lore on the world through his story in LoS2 and LoS:MoF. His puppets are fun to fight in MoF, and the boss fight in LoS2 is so chaotic and fun! He kinda gives me Eggman vibes from his boss fight! Also, they used the Wallman from OoE as a basis for him!
3. Marie Belmont
The her!!! I wish she had more influence in LoS2, but she's so good!! In LoS1, there is a scene where Laura electrocutes Gabriel, and Gabriel almost gives up right then and there, but Marie holds him through it and reassures him, giving him the strength to keep going. Then in the end, when Zobek kills Gabriel, Marie stands over him, guarding him from the restless souls of those who were trapped because of Satan. And the whole 'I know who you are' scene in LoS2? 😭
2. Laura
This poor girl has gone through it. She deserves a break. A kidnapped child, forced into easily a couple centuries of Vampirism by her 'Mother'. She blocked out memories of her human life, only for them to come back by the display of Marie and Gabriel. You even get to play as her in the DLC! She's capable, but still clearly a child who just wants a family and security. Ya'know.... Something all children should have.
1. Gabriel Belmont
My man. Someone please let this man have a yearlong break and nap. Orphaned boy, who only wanted to live by God and have a family. Who then got betrayed by his 'family' at the Brotherhood, and turned into a monster. In MoF, He is unapologetically evil, but in a sense of like, I'm getting justice from everything you've done to me. Which is why he destroys the village his son had been sent from, which resulted in Sypha's death and Simon's adoption by the Mountain Village. Of course it's toned down in LoS2, but he still eats a family as his first meal, but this time, you see him look ashamed of what he did. He gets his redemption, and he has earned a break with his family.
Main Games
5. Shanoa
Honestly, the whole, 'Raised as a weapon' trope really gets to me. I like her premise, she has a nice design, and she feels and looks natural to the plot of Castlevania. She's a badass, without being a jackass. Also, her and og!Laura are so cute together.
4. Yoko
I love her, even though, much like Shanoa, I don't know much about her. I adore how she seems respectful of Mina and Soma. I've also seen some fandom stuff of her basically adopting Soma as her younger brother, and I love that so much.
3. Simon
My gosh this man needs a nap too. Regardless of what universe he's in, I love his character. He seems like a stoic, yet good man. A heart of gold kinda guy.
2. Isaac
My kinda villain. Absolutely bonkers crazy. I love his unhinged nature, and the 'what ifs' about him. I love the toxicity he exudes, and I love his arrogance. I love him so much.
1. Sara
Underrated and underutilized. She has so much potential in the games from her introduction forward, but they never really go anywhere with it. How cool would it have been for Julius to be talking with Sara, and her helping him relearn who he is? How cool would it have been to have Sara teaching the new Belmonts how to use the VK? Maybe even giving them tips for combos and special moves?

Elizabeth Corday and Romano for the send character post
Elizabeth:
Why I like them: arrogant and has good reason to be. wildly self-destructive in response to emotional turmoil. so bad at so many things but absolutely confidently doing them anyway. total weirdo who, and I quote, thinks "being 'cool' seems somewhat limiting." desperately trying to be Good but she's also capable of such vicious pettiness and unkindness. when she does the big sad eyes I would throw myself into the sea if she asked it of me.
Why I don’t: s10 my nemesis until the end of time
Favorite episode (scene if movie): EXODUS ft. Sooty Elizabeth, a favorite blind box variant (gestures to my icon)
Favorite season/movie: I have to say s6. Dean Rollins arc my most dearly beloved
Favorite line: her goodbye spiel to Rollins is just banger after banger... but especially I held your every breath in my hands. like!!!!
Favorite outfit: whenever she wears sweaters!! the blue turtleneck especially is so underrated.
OTP: ot3 reigns forever :')
Brotp: canonically, Cordano. noncanonically, Susan should have stayed specifically so they could be chaotic bi friends.
Headcanon: she wants to be the kind of person who starts decorating for holidays super early but she always is like "tomorrow!!" and then it's like The Day Before Thanksgiving and she's hurling fistfuls of orange streamers over the banister like WHY DID NOBODY MAKE ME DO THIS SOONER
Unpopular opinion: That Woman Was Never Supposed To Be A Mother: a 25 page essay by Mouse
A wish: more sweaters!! less emotional self-harm!!! also she should kiss me.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: what else could you possibly do to me that s10 didn't already. I mean.
5 words to best describe them: the. love. of. my. life.
Romano:
Why I like them: he has made himself a performance. he has made himself a villain. he is soooo fake and he is soooo horrible and he's my special little guy and I need to fistfight him in the parking lot. he says things and then is just like :) as though he hasn't just vocalized a sentence no human being would ever say under normal circumstances. he is like a chew toy to me and well I am tearing him to shreds
Why I don’t: lol have you seen him. I said meet me in the PARKING LOT, ROBERT
Favorite episode (scene if movie): hmmmmm this is a TOUGH ONE. Power is one of my all-time favorites anyway but he's really good in it especially so let's go with that one
Favorite season/movie: s5&6 again. it's where I LIVE
Favorite line: "DO YOU DREAM OF LIZZIE CORDAY??"
Favorite outfit: I am legally obligated to say the speedo unfortunately
OTP: please.
Brotp: Cordano... Peter... Rogreene... Gretel...
Headcanon: I read him as ace so whenever he pulls a "haha I thought we were talking about sex :)" at an utterly bizarre moment, in my heart he's like "Mission Complete: I Have Successfully Passed As A Normal Heterosexual Man!"
Unpopular opinion: I feel like an insane person but he is so obviously a constructed persona most of the time. like. a person with power over others is not going to be well-liked by everybody so he just decided he's not going to be well-liked by ANYBODY. also if you tell him to stop... he stops. he respects people who have a spine.
A wish: no, little bald boy, don't go onto the roof
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: backstory lol I like him being such a blank slate and so fan attempts at giving him some kind of tragic past are always so funny to me like. he's just a massive dick it's okay he doesn't need a sad reason for it
5 words to best describe them: idiot garbage bag with heart.

Here’s a top 10 list of my favorite Gary moments based on absolutely nothing but my personal opinions.
10. Gary’s haircut
Tumblr media
Move over Zuko. Gary’s character development hasn’t finished yet. I feel like this signified a whole new chapter for him that we were supposed to see in season 8, but now will hopefully get to see in the movie. Also he looks so good with his little slut strands.
9. Grippy socks Gary
Tumblr media
Gary helping Hank and Dermott was cute. That’s it. It was so damn cute. It was the trio I didn’t know I needed until it happened. Gary was creeping around the compound looking for an adventure, and unlike Al who got roped into Hank’s nonsense, Gary encouraged it. He provided the intel, made the plan, and probably drove them to the bank. Gary crafting was adorable and he looks so good in scrubs. This is an underrated Gary episode.
I also found it interesting that he continued to call himself Viceroy after cutting ties with the Monarch. I guess following a man dressed as a butterfly since in middle school does things to the developing adolescent brain. Gary was still seeing butterflies, literally (although to be fair, those ink blots do look like butterflies).
8. Hero with a number
Tumblr media
The original Captain Sunshine has Gary pegged. I don’t know if I would go so far to call him a “hero”, but he is one of the most genuine characters on the show and the people around him respond to that. He made an impression on Shore Leave that later made way for him to join S.P.H.I.N.X. After his iconic fight with Brock, Brock didn’t walk away. He sat down next to him and waited at least long enough to light up a smoke until Gary woke up. Then they worked together to defeat a common enemy. Gary must’ve made a good enough impression on Hank so that he could later appeal to Enrico Matassa to save the Monarch from being shot in season 7. And after robbing Hatred blind for years, Hatred ended up bonding with Gary. Even if it was just for a moment. He’s the nice guy Dean wishes he was. Side note - Gary in only a loincloth and mask keeps me up at night. Why doesn’t this man have more bitches? How has RUSTY seen more action than Gary. I’ll volunteer guys don’t worry I’m on it.
7. Suiting up
Tumblr media
Please see my meow meow edit.
But seriously how does Gary just know everything? He knew about Enzo’s, he knew about Teddy at Dunwitch, he made it his job to know what’s good and he’s good at it. What’s more impressive than his physical glow up is how loyal and competent he’s become. He’s a guy that will it handle it. How? He’ll just handle it don’t worry about it.
6. Kano
Tumblr media
Amazing. Phenomenal. A masterpiece. Gary as Kano was setting boundaries. He was addressing his trauma. He was competent and cool and he looked so damn good. And most importantly, IT WAS HIS IDEA! The Monarch didn’t want to dress up as his dead dad. Monarch wanted to do the same old “I’ll get you Dr. Venture” schtick. Gary came up with the idea to be bad guys dressed as good guys so they can kill bad guys so they can arch a good guy. Are you following along? Because Gary sure is.
5. S.P.H.I.N.X
Tumblr media
God I wanted this to work out for him. This phase highlighted Gary’s main motivation. It’s not to be a hero or a villain, he just wants to be a part of something. His conversation with Hatred at the end of season 5 touches on that. When he was 1/2 of a nameless duo that was good enough for him. Being a leader after 24 died didn’t seem to satisfy him. He pursued a relationship with Dr. Mrs. but was rejected. He tried to follow Brock to the OSI but wasn’t accepted. He tried rebuilding a new team but was betrayed. I don’t know if he knew going back to the Monarch was the right choice, but it ended up being what he needed. The Monarch needed a new number 2 and Gary needed a new best friend. This all led up to his speech in his last scene during the last episode of season 7, which makes me appreciate this arc even more.
4. Gary breaks the 4th wall
Tumblr media
21 and 24 aren’t “invulnerable” despite what the Monarch thought. There are many instances in the show that shows exactly how these two idiots survived. They know the game. Gary reads the comics and watches the movies and plays the video games. And unlike Henchman 1, he can see a cliché coming. He’s a henchman and he knows exactly what that means, and it’s not worth dying for. He’s not the main character, he knows the good guys always win, so he hauls his ass out of whatever situation he’s in and hides so he can live another day. He can practically see the plot unfolding before him. He was competent long before his transformation whether he wanted to admit it or not. That’s why he didn’t buckle his seatbelt.
3. Gary climbs the Rocky Steps
Tumblr media
I think we all agree that Gary’s transformation was one of the best developments in the show. He loved and he lost. Then he took a hard look in the mirror and decided to change. Season 4 Gary was motivated by grief. But what I love about him is that it didn’t turn him into a mean, cruel, jaded guy. He got dieseled and went back to the cocoon to make it a better place for himself and for all the other henchman. This was the ultimate taking of responsibility. Something we hadn’t seen in most of the other characters at the time.
2. Gary drives Dr. Girlfriend back to the cocoon.
Tumblr media
I know what you’re thinking. Why did op put this random ass scene in the top 3? Because this is when Gary became my favorite character. I don’t care that he fought Brock (I still think it was awesome). I don’t care that he became General 21. When he was babbling about spin art to someone who could not care less, but he was just exited and thought it was cool, and I know he thought going from talking about their failed attempt to paint the car to spin art made sense in his head. It made sense to me. I remember being a kid and seeing this scene and realizing that whoever made this cartoon really understood me. That’s why he was so distraught when 24 sided with Killinger and devastated when he died. When you’re like that, it feels like nobody understands you and everybody thinks you’re weird. It took me forever to realize that a lot of people react similarly to Dr. Girlfriend, annoyed. So you learn to turn that side of you off. Gary didn’t have to do that because he had 24. And even though he had his glow up, that side of him remained intact. It’s one of the best aspects of his character.
Also because I would play with my Cra-Z-Art spin art toy for hours it’s such a strange specific memory that this scene unlocked for me.
And finally….
1. You already know
Tumblr media
Gary in sweatpants sent me through a second puberty. That’s it.
There are so many other moments that deserve to be in my top 10. Gary’s fight with Brock, Gary suiting up after the Monarch’s jail break, that moment at 15 where he just decided to stay with a guy that kidnapped him and work for him for the rest of his life. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I think Gary has one of the best written character arcs ever. I hope we get to see more of him one day. Everyone please support the movie when it comes out.

sex ed season four... not surprised the writers had no idea it was the last season. it's definitely the weakest season. i still remember how hooked in i was by s1 and s2, and i was in love w otis and eric's friendship and deeply related to both their personal struggles. and ofc i love all the characters too: maeve, aimee, ruby (ofc), adam (yes him too ofc!!), viv (underused underrated), jackson (ditto), isaac (literally my husband) and jean (milf).
i think the season lost me bc of its setting? why is cavendish some sort of lgbt haven school. it rly pulled me out, felt v utopic. i loved that there were new trans characters---and that they had a v untypical dynamic. roman is a gnc trans man and abbi is a trans girl, and i expected they would have as close to heteronormative sex as possible but nope! (i personally found roman v charming, he's my bb boy. but wtf does he have his gf's name tattooed so big non his chest jesus) i liked that there was a deaf character, aisha, who is queer and poly...but all 3 of them were so lacking in personality. they felt like checkmarks :/ i liked cal's introduction to the story in s3 but they too feel like a checkmark. i know that they're nb, dysphoric, quiet, and like to smoke. that is sooo little info. even o---whose character was butchered and made into a villain post-production according to yasmine benoit, her creator---has a lot more personality. and ykno what, yeah o was very unlikeable. she looked smug and two-faced. me personally? i like that and i found her cool. it's still sad tho that it wasn't the intention at all, and that it makes one of the few ace characters in media into a manipulative dick whose coming out scene didn't feel genuine.
still glad maeve and otis broke up i rly couldn't stand them together anymore teehee no more push and pull, no more on-off!
eric meeting god was corny ok. wtv happened to realism. rly had to suspend my disbelief w this one. (lowkey also when the pastor went to the school ball. it feels too good to be true idk.) but it's fitting htat he wants to be a pastor. ruby should become a pr manager srsly. and she should date me. jackson and cal should get back together also. or not. i don't believe in hs sweethearts. (says the one who was classmates w elementary school sweethearts)
joanna was such an annoying character im sorry. why would you do that. and who tf is dan i dont remember him
anyway yeah you can tell it shouldn't have been the last season. i was happy to get a finale cus so many shows go on forever but yeah that wasn't a proper ending. oh well!

some of my favorite underrated fictional friendships/potential/unexplored friendships, in no particular order
joss carter & anthony marconi - person of interest
the man HATES reese and tolerates finch but anthony genuinely likes carter and probably at least suspects what it takes for her to bend her principles and help elias
meanwhile carter doesn't trust him but she gets where he's coming from, understands the kind of loyalty that binds him and the love that fuels that fire
they come from the same school of 'put your money where your mouth is' and take no shit from blowhards, but at the same time they both have a habit of being blowhards themselves when they feel the need to state their authority. i'm sad we didn't get to see them interact more, i would have loved for them to butt heads over who's the toughest tough guy
benji dunn & ilsa faust - mission impossible
going from the banter in the car > "i misjudged you" > her betrayal > them working together seamlessly in fallout > her SLAMMING her spine against a table to get free & save his life is such an up-and-down progression of events, i just think their dynamic is neat
i feel like they both have a certain element of displacement and frustration in common: benji as a fiercely loyal not-particularly-violent friend in a field where betrayal and violence are like water and bread; ilsa as someone good at what she does who's forced to do it for all the wrong reasons. both british ex-pats, both a bit awkward in non-emergent social situations, both a bit like the side of ethan hunt that the other is most impressed by/worried will get him killed one day
also benji is entirely too forgiving even while he's verbally bitching up a storm, he jumped to "ilsa? OUR ilsa?" with a quickness in fallout given that the last time they saw each other she'd had orders to kill him. i think that would fucking gut her given that she's so used to being tossed out on her own for things that aren't even her fault
danny williams & kono kalakaua - hawaii five-0
they got along like a house on fire in s1, she gave him surfing lessons, their matching tempers & equally matching loyalty, plus his blatant concern for her during her whole s2 arc and their mutual protectiveness of each other
they both have such a big 'family' chip on their shoulder, what with danny being raised in a big loving family only to become a divorced single dad struggling to make ends meet for his daughter, and kono likewise being raised in a big tight-knit family that's all about duty and honor, only to watch them turn their backs on chin without a second glance when he's accused by IA without even wondering why someone also raised on duty and honor would forsake either
and as a result, they're both so defensive of who and what they care about, both quick and sharp with their words but also both careful to check in and make sure they're not doing real damage when they don't mean to
i can easily see them completing each other's sentences trying to get out of trouble for something they absolutely did and that's an A+ in my book
they're such sweet friends and they get so overshadowed by whatever homoerotic shit danny & steve have going on
alana bloom & will graham - nbc's hannibal
yes they were attracted to each other, yes it went sour when they expressed those feelings, but my GOD she is not the villainous seductress i keep seeing people characterize her as in their will/hannibal fics. it is possible for an mlm relationship to form in coexistence with a perceivably heteronormative relationship/overture without needing to be repulsed by the latter's presence, especially when the m/f characters both go on to be in explicitly and implicitly queer relationships. some people heard 'kissing alana bloom was a clutch for balance' and went 'she's a predator seeking to lure will away from hannibal' in what frankly feels like an EXTREMELY lesbophobic and biphobic manner
anyway as someone who is autistic, the presence of a character who was always willing to dictate what would usually be between-the-lines, openly telegraphed when she was considering dancing around a subject so that will could choose if he wanted to hear socially acceptable vaguery or direct communication at risk of offending, and refused to let a miscommunication sit any longer than she needed to be able to address it, was a breath of fresh fucking air and i loved that she was willing to adapt to will's preferred methods of communication instead of expecting him to adapt to hers
even in season 3, after everything has changed between them, after pushing each other away continuously, they're still able to sit on a couch and just chat about each other's families like nothing ever went wrong. by the end of the show, alana is still the only person who never tried to manipulate will into changing who he was, and she is still the only person will is ever completely honest with about how he's feeling (even in s2 when he's plotting murder in prison/honeytrapping hannibal & faking freddie's death, when it comes to how he's feeling, he never lies to her)
there's a definite power in a relationship founded on clarity in a show defined by the lies we tell, to ourselves and to others, in order to keep our person suits well-tailored
dr. mccoy & literally everybody in star trek tos
WE GET IT HE AND SPOCK ARGUE ALL THE TIME!!!! it's a wonderfully complex dynamic but there's so much else going on with him!!!!! he's always boiled down to the grumpy guy who has beef with spock (SIDE-EYE JJ ABRAMS SIDE FUCKING EYE) but his number 1 character trait is that he cares so goddamn much about everyone and everything that he can't dial it down At All, it's both his strength and his achilles heel
he and christine chapel are so precious to me, he's so kind and supportive of her crush on spock while also warning her to be realistic, they tease each other mercilessly, and there are no two people you want Less to be caught in a game of chicken with than them. there's an episode where they literally get into a screaming match bc mccoy is refusing to tell anybody that he's gravely ill & chapel refuses to leave him alone until kirk arrives & he can't back out any longer, and even then their fight ends with mccoy very softly reassuring her that he will do the right thing
mccoy and uhura have this playful chivalry routine going on where one of them turns on the charm and the other ups the ante and it is endlessly entertaining to me. also in the tholian web when they think kirk's dead & uhura freaks out after seeing his 'spirit' in her quarters and runs right into mccoy in the hallway, he catches her so carefully, tries to reassure her, and keeps her from running off in a panic, and then later in sickbay he helps her out of the bed and is so kind to her
mccoy and scotty being drinking buddies!!! the two most loud-mouthed combinations of curmudgeonly and boisterous alive just reveling in each other's casual company!!! and the way mccoy starts yelling at a literal killing machine after it hurts scotty & dismisses the fact, how rattled he looks when he thinks scotty is dead, ugh dude
we don't see a Whole lot of him with sulu and chekov, but the parts we do are darling. he and sulu are so tongue-in-cheek with each other, sulu demonstrates a complete trust in mccoy any time he's in sickbay, and i can't remember if we actually hear mccoy tease sulu about his plants, but i feel it in my bones that it happened and we run on vibes in this house. then there's him bantering with chekov about his 'russia invented everything' stories & teasing him when he clearly has a crush on an ensign in the apple, everything about spectre of the gun, mccoy adopted that boy the second he opened his mouth
all i'm saying is the Entire Crew banded together to save him and get him help in search for spock, sacrificing their jobs and cushy lives in the process, and they had good goddamn reasons for it!!! he's friends with literally everyone i need to see more of those dynamics at all times

Please send help Xi Yang Yang literally has me in a chokehold and I am struggling knowing that out of most donghua, most of which are generally already pretty underrated and niche in the mainstream, this is probably one of the MOST NICHE fandoms I could ever get into because it is a kids’ show. 😭
It has a fandom in China that’s actually super active (I love getting lost in Bilibili’s AMVs and animation memes when I can afford to (as in I usually can’t/shouldn’t because I spend too long on that addicting site)), but obviously I’m not fluent enough to be super active on Chinese websites. 🥲
BUT XI YANG YANG JUST HAS GOTTEN SO ANIME AND BADASS AND HEARTFELT AND IT KILLS ME BECAUSE I’M WATCHING THESE ADORABLE LITTLE CHARACTERS I LIKED AS A CHILD BECOME AMAZING, ACTUALLY DEEP CHARACTERS IN REALLY INTRIGUING STORIES!!! It doesn’t help my addiction that the Xi Yang Yang channel on YouTube literally uploads all the episodes so I can watch them!! For free!!! It’s so accessible and thus super addicting!!!
Tumblr media
I just found out from summary videos what happens in the latest season (the one where the goats and wolves go back to the fantasy cat kingdom except this time they discover a dog kingdom) and AHHHHHHHHH. I was literally—and yes, I do mean literally!—screaming because OH MY GOD KGJSKFHSJS THE PLOT. THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN.
God I wish there was a fandom for this. I used to yell about it on Twitter and at my Chinese friend who also liked animation (he was even nice enough to send me Xi Yang Yang merch!!) but my Twitter followers follow me for my Scum Villain (and maybe Erha) content and my friend isn’t active anymore. 😭
Obviously it’s my account so I can just post what I want but what I want to do is yell and upload too many screenshots and yell some more and sub video clips and post those too. I LITERALLY HAVE CLIPS OF XI YANG YANG THAT I SUBBED MYSELF JUST SITTING ON MY PHONE GLSJDKSHSJS.
I can’t emphasize enough how this series has grown and changed so much since I was a kid—now rather than have Tom and Jerry-esque comedy and rather stiff animation, it’s more colourful and fluid and even more meaningful—and it remains super funny. Like yes, sometimes the animation is still a bit off but overall it’s just improved so much!! The action is so shounen it’s just so much fun!
https://youtu.be/yQpdr4h2rbc
youtube
And the characters are all so likeable—like I genuinely think Xi Yang Yang and Hui Tai Lang are examples of iconic character design, and their friends are pretty good too (Xi Yang Yang can get really funky with some of the character designs—for example with the egg villains etc but overall the main characters look so so cute).
I’m so glad they reformed Hui Tai Lang in Mighty Little Defenders!! I’ve watched every season since then and they’re all really really enjoyable. Since we’re not just constantly reusing Hui Tai Lang as a villain and having him chase the sheep around, we get a lot more interesting stories: the entire Rescue Across Time season, with all its time-travelling shenanigans, remains one of my favourites, as does the aforementioned fantasy cat kingdom transmigration season (we even got the goats brainwashed into lovable jerk versions of themselves who also happen to be cats!!). The whole plot surrounding Xi Yang Yang’s parents and Bing Bing Yang is really nice too, and Hui Tai Lang is such a good dad. 😭
Also I guess it doesn’t technically matter if I spoil the latest season and reveal why I was screaming earlier today, but basically I found out they make Hui Tai Lang brainwashed by dark energy into becoming a villain. Xi Yang Yang tries to fight him and they both get affected with the dark energy, but in the end, Hui Tai Lang still sacrifices himself to save his best friend. GOD THEIR BOND IS SO CUTE. ;w;
Tumblr media
I know this is like all gibberish to people who haven’t watched Xi Yang Yang and I’m betting 90% of you haven’t (and that even if you have, 95% of you or more haven’t watched the newer seasons (from Mighty Little Defenders onwards)). But basically besides Xi Yang Yang being devastated by Hui Tai Lang’s potential death, Gou Xing Lang, the villain from the cat fantasy kingdom season (Against the Dark Force) soMEHOW MANAGES TO SAVE HIM FROM WITHIN THE DARKNESS???? AND IT HAS ME EVEN MORE EMO BECAUSE HE HAD A SAD, PRETTY TOUCHING BACKSTORY WHERE HE LOST TOUCH WITH HIS CHILDHOOD BEST FRIEND WHO BETRAYED HIM (which they referenced in the Ultimate Battle season) BUT WE ALL THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD!!!
So now I’m wondering if they’ll build on the fact he’s somehow in the dark energy??? Or if they’ll just leave it at that!?
Man I haven’t even watched the season yet because the YouTube channel gets the seasons way later than China does, so I don’t know the details and from what I have seen, I might find some of it a bit odd, but they really do have the capability to make me feel feels, don’t they? Just from a summary video and I was already getting all emo over Xi Yang Yang and Hui Tai Lang’s bond, and how badass they both are when they’re a bit more villainous.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m also wheezing because the summary video pointed out how Hui Tai Lang lamented the fact he always gets made into the villain, and it’s kind of true… 😂
They turned him into a robot in the Ultimate Battle season—and ahhhh he looks so badass!!—and now here too he got infected with dark energy. But I’m down for dark Hui Tai Lang and dark Xi Yang Yang… Like I’m really happy they brought back the kitty versions of the goats because the whole premise there is that they’re like the goats but also opposite, so a lot of them are way meaner than the goats. And that’s always such a fun idea!!
Tumblr media
Kitty Xi Yang Yang is brash and arrogant and only cares about power/fun while Xi Yang Yang himself is clever but caring—even when he can be a bit vain. Mei Yang Yang is sweet and a bit timid—although I love the badass older version of herself we got in Ultimate Generation—and yet kitty Mei Yang Yang is just a major bitch and I love it. Like think Flutterbitch from the first couple Discord episodes or from the Chrysalis episode lol. Fei Yang Yang is protective and strong and brash while kitty Fei Yang Yang is selfish and obsessed with cleanliness. Nuan Yang Yang is tender and caring yet kitty Nuan Yang Yang is basically a green tea bitch—she pretends to be sweet on the surface to get people to like her and listen to her but obviously inside she’s not that sweet. Instead, kitty Nuan Yang Yang is rather lazy ahaha.
Speaking of lazy though, we finally got to see kitty Lan Yang Yang, which we didn’t see in Against the Dark Force, since he was never brainwashed. Apparently kitty Lan Yang Yang is still cowardly and gluttonous but also kind of…coquettish? 😂
I’m genuinely so curious about what happens in the dog kingdom season ahhhhh!!! But so far I’m watching Ultimate Battle as it’s updated on YouTube, and I’ve enjoyed this season a lot. It reminds me of Sonic actually, and new Xi Yang Yang already kind of reminds me of Sonic (that’s actually part of why I recommend it—it’s like various really good series all combined into one, and I think fans of modern kids’ shows will also probably enjoy Xi Yang Yang!).
Having Xi Yang Yang and Hui Tai Lang chase a villain into the future and meet their friends 15 years after they disappeared is such a cool plot idea! Plus the villain himself is pretty neat—he wants to roboticize everyone to remove the weakness that is emotion—and from spoilers I know, he’s bringing a lot more intriguing things to the table later.
I’m obsessed with how mature Xi Yang Yang’s friends now are—like they still feel like themselves, but you can really tell they’ve grown up! And it feels natural, which is great.
Mei Yang Yang became a journalist to better search for Xi Yang Yang, and we get lore on her this season, which is really awesome. She’s now no longer bothered by dirtiness and she can fend for herself, which is great to watch—I love her weapon too because it’s a sword that can break into pieces to become longer, like a whip.
Fei Yang Yang is now a badass, reliable firefighter, so he no longer carries that childish brashness of his younger self, and he’s really cool in action. For example, the way he figured out Bu Lei’s plot and was later the one who used three cards, overexerting himself yet becoming super powerful and badass in order to defeat Professor T, was just so cool.
Lan Yang Yang is working as a food reviewer basically and while he’s undoubtedly still Lan Yang Yang, enjoying eating and sleeping, he’s well-respected in his community and sometimes he actually feels full because chefs search for him so much lol. He also has a cool weapon—it’s a flying platform with three sort of canons floating above it, and it kind of resembles a fidget spinner!
Nuan Yang Yang achieved her dream of becoming a singer and I like how consistent her love of music—and her being a fan of a singer who’s a duck—is to her character. I am disappointed because they made her slimmer and I feel like her being a bigger goat as a mountain goat was always a fun part of her backstory and why she looks slightly different from the other sheep. Despite that, I get making older characters look very different from their younger selves for the sake of change (eg Anko getting fat in Boruto vs being skinny in Naruto), so while I’d prefer her being her bigger size, I can live with this change.
Some of the roboticization storylines are really badass too—I already mentioned Hui Tai Lang’s, but there’s also Hong Tai Lang’s admittedly hot roboticized look (and I feel like I can call it hot because the Xi Yang Yang team did also release an artwork that showed a human version!!). I also know there’ll be more involving Xiao Hui Hui, as his abandonment issues from Hui Tai Lang’s vanishment were resolved a bit earlier in the season but I suppose they’re bringing some more drama later! Mei Yang Yang’s trauma from Xi Yang Yang’s disappearance also gets explored, and we get to learn some of her lore, which I am very *rubs hands excitedly* about. 👀
Tumblr media
And of course I know some spoilers about Professor T that I’m just like ‼️ over. The other robots also had pretty compelling stories—Bu Lei is fun as a green tea bitch/yandere type villain and Hei Zhuan (Hei Zuan?)’s story with his sister was cute. But Otto’s whole storyline literally nearly made me cry. 😭
OH AND I CAN’T WRITE ALL THIS AND NOT TALK ABOUT THE NEWEST XI YANG YANG MOVIE, WHICH IS ABOUT BASKETBALL.
I actually skipped the basketball season since obviously I’m not exactly into the sport, but I’ve determined since I should probably watch it still sometime because I realized later it nonetheless carries that Xi Yang Yang charm, so even if I don’t care too much for the dramatization of basketball (you know the kind; the kind that permeates all sports anime), I can nevertheless enjoy it for depicting my favourite characters. 🥺
I’ve caught a glimpse of some episodes of the basketball season and they are cute!! The one where they compete with the bunnies and actually help save them from famine despite the bunnies trying to cheat to win was really sweet, and later episodes depict that awesome bond between Hui Tai Lang and Xi Yang Yang.
So back to the movie—I brought up the basketball season because obviously the movie does adapt/reference some of it since they’re both about basketball, and I did skip the movie too for a while… But I later watched it and AHHHHHHH GLSBDKSHDKSB OF COURSE I ENJOYED IT. It’s a depiction of characters I love being themselves while on an adventure!! How could I not enjoy it!?
The animation style was really neat; seeing the sheep and wolves in a more detailed anthro style than their usually chibi/cartoony style meant we got some pleasing aesthetics—for example, I enjoyed how their eyes corresponded with their themed colours (like in the series Xi Yang Yang and Hui Tai Lang both have dark bluish-grey eyes, but in the movie Xi Yang Yang’s are very visibly blue and Hui Tai Lang’s are very visibly purple. It’s quite pretty!).
I’ve also embarrassingly enough tweeted about this before, but they did make Hui Tai Lang…unfairly hot in the movie LGBSKFHSJSH. Basically, they gave him consistently half-lidded eyes and with the more violet colour and more realistic proportions (since the characters look more anthro). My younger brother even complained about how such series indulges furries since you could tell they gave Hui Tai Lang those muscles etc on purpose lmao.
Tumblr media
Who let this man look like this? Who!?
But yeah Hui Tai Lang and Xi Yang Yang have a conflict within the film—which of course they do; it’s a movie so we need to up the ante—but as sad as it is seeing characters we like have a falling out (and as overdramatic as some of the angst may feel), it’s nevertheless characters I cherish facing conflict. So seeing them come back together after and working hard to get the basketball championship after losing is really lovely, and I really enjoy how Xi Yang Yang lets all its characters shine.
In every season, while there may be one character who gets more focus along with Xi Yang Yang and Hui Tai Lang—for example Against the Dark Force was very much Lan Yang Yang’s season and in some ways, Ultimate Battle allowed Mei Yang Yang to shine—all the characters get arcs focused on them that correlate to the bigger overarching plot. I mean, every season is 60 episodes!! So of course we have lots of time to explore the characters and I really appreciate that.
So even in the film, we do see the other characters shine, even if it’s all tied back to the overarching plot of basketball and even if Xi Yang Yang and Hui Tai Lang take centre stage. I also really enjoyed the ending since it kept me on the toes—the rival team to Xi Yang Yang’s had a character that was going through his own arc, but I was desperately hoping the sheep would win the championship this time since they lost to the wolves in the basketball season. Plus I was crossing my fingers waiting for Hui Tai Lang to get to shine since they set up how he’s not the best player and thus feels like he’s in Xi Yang Yang’s shadow…
And fortunately the film did end up going with the best possible ending (imo)!
Spoilers ahead if you care lol:
Basically, they did let the sheep finally win the championship, which is perfect since obviously this is a sequel to the basketball season, where they started off as the underdogs yet did end up losing, even with all the growth they had. It felt like a perfect progression—especially since even though the rival team (the tigers) did have a character with his own arc and reasons why he really wanted to win, they only had to have his father finally approve of him playing basketball to give him a satisfactory conclusion. As in, he didn’t need to win the way the sheep needed to.
And thankfully, while I was getting worried throughout the final match, they did let Hui Tai Lang shine!! He got to take the winning shot after Xi Yang Yang faked being the winning shot, which is of course the perfect progression to Hui Tai Lang’s arc too. I was so happy when they did that!!
Of course, some of this conclusion is probably obvious in hindsight, but I did have a fear…mostly because the sheep almost did lose until they protested an issue and it initially looked like Xi Yang Yang was going to take the winning shot—which if he had, it would feel less satisfying, as Hui Tai Lang wouldn’t get to join him in the limelight.
I need to have more trust in the Xi Yang Yang team lol. I’ve loved almost everything they’ve done so far, and whenever I doubt them, they manage to pleasantly surprise me! And what I mean by “doubt them” is that sometimes Chinese series will have writing conventions a westerner may find odd, but even when Xi Yang Yang subverts my expectations and indulges in that “odd” Chinese sense of humour etc, I still love it to bits (and listen, I’m not saying Chinese writers are bad. Not at all! I’m just referring to the fact that as a Canadian-born-Chinese, I’ve witnessed people complain about Chinese story details because it’s not what they’re used to).
OH ALSO THE MOVIE’S OST SLAPS. I KEEP LISTENING TO THE SONGS ON LOOP GLSHFKSHDKSH.

But wow okay I rambled WAY too much lmaooooo. I just can’t help it!! When I really love things I love them to absolute pieces, and when a fandom is underrated, I tend to feel the need to actually be active and promote it so I can spread how happy it makes me. Plus I can happily juggle multiple brain rots at once, even if I have one main one that takes centre stage lol. Like right now Scum Villain and Erha are my biggest obsessions—and y’all have seen how much I can ramble about both Scum Villain and Erha lol—but of course I love all my donghua and danmei and manhua and cdramas and Chinese music. ♥️
Along with my other planned blog entries about donghua and danmei and Chinese-themed media (such as me wanting to write some thoughts on Everything Everywhere All at Once), I have every intention of writing about why you should watch Xi Yang Yang on my blog ahaha.
I just. Have so many happy feelings surrounding Xi Yang Yang right now and I want to yell about them specifically, especially since there’s barely a fandom for them in the west. All this rambling is a result of me bottling up my fangirling for weeks NGNSKDHSKSH. Plus I’m a naturally ramble-y person! But I feel even more ramble-y when a series is an underrated gem and makes me endlessly happy, the way Xi Yang Yang is and does. 🥺

Honestly Seeing the 2 New Bad Batch episodes was Pure HYPE!! Defenintly some of the best Star Wars I've seen in a while. It's good to know that Senator Organa is still fighting the good fight against the Corrupt Senate/Empire in a sense, along with this new Senator lady, It's good to know there's still some genuinely good people in Corusant even after order 66, even if at the time it's at the rising of the Empire so it's a heavy battle, even if the day ended in defeat for our heroes. I have to admit I'm loving the fact they're giving more depth to the clones
Palpatine is just five steps ahead of everybody in twisting the truth about Kamino's destruction to fuel his own intentions of pushing the Defense bill for his Imperial Stormtrooper army.
I admit I thought the mystery assassin was gonna be crosshair but it was a no name clone who's a "believer". I WANT TO KNOW SO MUCH MORE ABOUT THIS! Believers in the Empire? For Palpatine? for what really?, God I hope this gets mentioned more in the show
Bail Organa is one of the underrated MVPs of the Star Wars universe. This guy was slowly building towards rebellion before pretty much anyone else. It's also sad though, to see him trying to make things work, still thinking there might be a way he can fix the system from the inside. Riyo Chuchi isn't new, she was in a few Clone Wars episodes, though she was a fairly minor character so I can see why you'd forget her.
TCW and now Bad Batch have made the clones absolutely iconic, more so than they were after the prequels.
Palpatine remains one of my favorite villains of all time. Even when the good guys think they have a win, he pulls the rug out from under them masterfully. That's the thing about Palpatine; while everyone is struggling to play chess, he's the own running the board. Meaning that no matter what anyone does, he always manages to push things towards his own goals and desires.
I've seen a few guesses about that clone so far. Some are saying he was a deserter who had his chip dialed up to eleven, others are saying he was trained separately from the other clones on Kamino. Some have even suggested that he's from a secret flash-cloning facility separate from the Kamino operation, which could be why he says the word "brother" to Rex with such sarcasm. I personally think it would be interesting if he was just genuinely dedicated to the Empire. Would make the conflict even more interesting, with some Clones remaining loyal and others turning against the Empire. With the way Rex called attention to how unusual he was, I'm sure we'll get some sort of explanation in the show.

ok I love shakespeare and have been meaning to reread some lays/branch out from what I read in school pls tell me where to start/what I need to know
CRACKS KNUCKLES
okay so it really depends on what your tastes are.
if you're an American (or really, anywhere outside of the UK), it is very likely you were not taught the histories, save for maybe richard iii. that is a goddamned shame. Fuck That. yes, the histories contain a lot of... well, history. there's names and places and shit that you probably won't recognise if you haven't been taught it. it will take some research and cursory knowledge for the reading of the plays (though i believe, as with all shakespeare, that if you know how to play the damn thing, then such details are irrelevant and the audience should understand what is happening regardless of their knowledge of context). but the histories contain some of the most gutwrenching portrayals of humanity i have ever seen. these are some hidden fucking gems, dude. which is silly to say bc like. it's shakespeare. the man is arguably the most known writer in the english language. but here i am, the president of the The Histories Are Good, Actually club, and i am telling you. read the histories.
good place to start is the henriad. *the sun shines, angels sing, flowers bloom, etc*
the henriad is the love of my life and yes I will elaborate, but probably later. it comprises of richard ii (my underrated love), henry iv parts i and ii, and henry v. henry iv pt i is, quite literally, my favourite shakespeare play. is it the best? objectively probably not. does it make me absolutely fucking insane? Yes. this is a whole separate post, babes, but the first time i saw henry iv pt i (and, at that time, i was well cemented in my shakespeare knowledge), i literally had to fucking pause my life and consume as much of it as i could. absolutely unbelievable. william, you're crazy for this one!!!!!
ahem.
weakest parts in my opinion are the back half of the henriad-- pt ii is a joke (sorry, will, babes, but. come on) and henry v, while still being about the Love Of My Life, has incredibly great moments and beats and scenes, but it just. it's not part i. you can never be that girl. (i am currently getting flayed as we speak for speaking this treason, esp for someone who literally cries every time they hear the st crispin's day speech)
anyway what were we talking about.
reread romeo and juliet and forget fucking everything any English teacher ever has taught you. i have Strong Opinions on romeo and juliet and in due time you will hear them but. reread it. stop applying any lens to it and just read the damn thing. form your own opinions. do not let Everyone Else's Opinion matter on this.
reread othello and really sink your teeth into why iago is the villain beyond the fact that he's literally called a villain. think about how incredibly radical it was for the villain of a play about a black man was, arguably, its most racist character. (we will have the Shakespeare And Race talk another time.)
reread hamlet just because that shit is a good play. reread macbeth and for the love of God stop taking it so seriously. we get it, it's about murder.
read king lear and let it wrench out your heart when you think about how age and madness can consume the best of us (and fucking shudder at the "let him smell his way to dover" line, jesus)
and read the comedies! the loves of my life! and don't you DARE listen to anything anyone tells you about taming of the shrew without first understanding that the crux of any shakespearean play is the idea of play. just trust me on that one and maybe i will elaborate if you buy me a cuppa.
read much ado. it's the love of my life.
just pick up the works and read. read titus, because it's an early work and it's a silly as fuck play and we all love young William in his Revenge Play era. read the tempest and weep about him being at the end of his life (though we have no real validation it was his last play, it is a later play, and the themes are there). read everything in between.
and, and this is most important
don't you dare listen to a single soul who tells you some posh snot nosed fuck from Oxford, of all places, wrote his plays instead. punch their classist nose right in. they deserve it.
enjoy my dear. i will be here with you to scream.

90's Pulp Movie Villains Ranked
SO I am going to be doing a series of rankings ,as I have been marathoing the Pulp superhero trend of the 90's .Why not start with my favorite topic ,the villlains...THis was hard in a sense, because I love all five of these baddies
5.Big Boy Caprice from Dick Tracy
The biggest mob boss in town and arch nemesis to Dick Tracy.I actually though going into this rewatch ,I thought he would be number one ....But looking at the other villains he fell to the wayside.I love how bonkers Al PAcinos performance is and his quirk of messing up qoutes and the makeup looks great but honestly I cant help but feel he is a wannabe of Jack Nicholsons Joker .He is fun though
Tumblr media
4.Xander Drax from the Phantom
An evil powerhungry business man who wants to harnass the power of 3 magic skulls .On paper he is the weakest villain, going into this rewatch,I thought I was gonna put him dead last .The problem is the side villains are more intereresting ,like the pirate king Kabai Sengh and Quill who killed the Phantoms father, while Drax is just an evil rich guy ......Thank GOD for Treat Williams performance ,he is taking character description of evil 1930's capitalist and running with it .Not great but he is a ton of fun
Tumblr media
3.Neville Sinclair from the Rockateer
A swashbuckling movie star who is actually a Nazi spy trying to get his hands on an experimental jetpack .NOw we get to the really interesting guys .While Big Boy and Drax were fun, theres a bit more to Sinclair .Being a dashing movie star he is charming but his villainy is motivated by a sense of desperation .Timothy Dalton is an actor who feels like he is right of the 1930's and 1940's ,so he is able to nail the deonair side while also being a legit menacing villain
Tumblr media
2.Don Rafael Montero from The Mask of Zorro
A Spanish Governor who wishes to take over California ,but the big thing is he stole the daughter of Don Diego De La Vega AKA the original Zorro and had him imprisioned for 20 years .NOw what impresses me about Don Rafael is he couldve been a mustache twirly villain, just a hate sink as we root for Zorro to run him through....But they decided to give him nuanace .Oh he is still a villain who kills and enslaves innocent people ,but he has his own morals ,doesnt want children to see his crimes, and does very much care for his adopted daughter Elena .Stuart Wilson plays him with a sense of dignity and nuance one doesnt often see in a blockbuster bad guy of that era
Tumblr media
1. Shiwan Khan from the Shadow
The last descendant of Genghis Khan(I know there are millions of descendants of that guy just roll with it ,its a movie ),Shiwan Khan is a wannabe conqueror who wishes to rule the world using his psychic powers and an atomic bomb.SO while DOn Rafael is a more nuanced villain,Shiwan Khan is a classic supervillain done REALLY well .Like the guys got a simple goal,he wants to rule the world, cause being descended from a great conquerer he wants to be a conqueror himself.A few things make him stand out ,one is John Lones charismatic performance, especially in his scenes with the Shadow .In classic villain fashion he is a dark reflection of the Shadow.....But of the Shadows past .The Shadow used to be a bad dude but has put his sins behind him to fight evil .Basically Shiwan Khan has all the powers of the Shadow and is what the Shadow would be like is he still pursued evil. What I love is Shiwan Khan actually admires the Shadows past and is diappointed he has turned good cause he really wants him to rule with him .He also reminds me of Kilgrave from Jessica Jones in how he uses his mind control powers to convince people to kill themselves who mildly inconvience him .With cool powers ,a good performance and a great dynamic with the hero ,I think Shiwan Khanis one of the most underrated supervillains in superhero movies and best villain of the 90's pulp movies trend
