I like how logical and functional both Hua Zhi and Gu Yan Xi are. They broke up and are both quietly pining and missing each other, but they're both still carrying about their day and doing their jobs without letting it affect their jobs.

I Usually Get Bored with Romance Dramas but Surprisingly, I Really Enjoyed This Drama
When the trailer of Oath of Love first dropped, even though I knew I was going to watch it (because I adore the main leads), I was prepared to get bored of it eventually because Chinese romance dramas tended to do that to me. However, Oath of Love seriously shocked me in the best way possible because I was absolutely engrossed in it. I do not recall getting bored at all.
This drama has a good blend of romance, family and friendships, the amount of happy, funny, angry and sad scenes were pretty optimal as well. All in all, whilst watching Oath of Love, there was barely any opportunity to even feel bored.
Additionally, this drama has a way of kicking stereotypical romance drama tropes to the curb. Let's take the "third parties" as an example here. Gao Xi and Shao Jiang are Zhi Xiao and Gu Wei's love rival but during the span of the drama, none of them did anything "villainous" at all. Gao Xi handed Gu Wei the concert ticket just like she told Zhi Xiao she would, and Shao Jiang did not create any lies about Zhi Xiao at all. It was rather refreshing developing an adoration instead of malicious thoughts for the love rivals.
I would also like to give Yan Bing Jun a special mention. This man really annoyed me in the first couple of episodes. I honestly thought he was going to be that person who would take the despicable route just to improve his position in the hospital. But when he told those parents off in the later episode? When he first stood up for Gu Wei and then stood up for the healthcare workers? I wanted nothing more than to give him a hug and thanked him with all my heart. This man was also another stereotype kicked to the curb. I might have disliked Gu Wei slightly during this period of time, but Yan Bing Jun, Gao Xi and Xiao Du made it better. Furthermore, Gu Wei kinda redeemed himself after that, so all's well.
As for drama finales, Oath of Love did wonderfully in that field. The last couple of episodes were bittersweet; I really liked that finale but those episodes destroyed me. It really was the reason I didn't want to give this drama a rating lower than what I gave. The only thing missing in the finale was one more scene with Zhi Xiao's mother.
All in all, Oath of Love exceeded my expectations and I am still very pleasantly surprised by that. However, I would have liked to see more of San San & Gu Xiao and Yin Xi & Jin Shi. I do not always agree with the advices they gave, but these friends are worth heeding bad advices from. I love a show when the friendships are pure and extremely precious, no ulterior motive or competition and whatnot.
P.S.: I really went into Oath of Love loving Gu Wei because of Xiao Zhan but left the show with Lao Lin as my favourite role in the drama.
Rating: ★★★★☆

While I am not in the least shipping Chu Qiao with YY this time around, I do like him as a character a lot. And I think the main reason is he is a rare person who accepts responsibility for his fuck ups and outcomes of his actions or inactions.
Think of the scene when he visits Yan Xun in jail. YX, desperately, keeps asking him whether he did X, Y, and Z - all actions that contributed to the platform tragedy (not warning him, preventing his escape etc etc etc.) And YY admits to it all even though there are explanations or excuses for each and every one of these.
He provides none of those explanations or excuses because he gets something most people do not - that all those explanations and excuses would be insults to Yan Xun, that all they would be is attempt for YY to justify himself as not that bad, but none of them would change the ultimate fact - his actions and his inactions (even if different in gradation or kind from what YX believes they are) all led to Yan Xun on that platform, being broken over and over. Trying to justify himself would be trying to go "I am also suffering! see, I also have pain" to the actual victim.
The closest he comes to that is this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But he stops after that one sentence escapes him. Because ultimately whatever he did or didn't do, he realizes it all comes to this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He protects them from outside prison (the only way YX and CQ survive the waves of assassins is because of him) but once again, neither knows because for all his coldness, for all his passivity, YY understands what is fair and what is deserved for him, and does not deviate.
PS As I was telling @aysekira, I have pictured LGX as my Mo Xi from Yuwu for years and years but never could figure out who I wanted for Gu Mang. And now I am going - aaaaaaa just have Shawn Dou be Gu Mang in my head cast. The look, the vibe, hell even the fact that he's a little shorter than LGX all work. And hey, they totally were great at both jumping into beds or fighting to the death. So mmmm.
PPS I normally loathe love triangles, but rewatching PA made me realize something - I don't really hate the trope, it's just that it's almost never done to my satisfaction. It's always ML and SML clearly delineated so you know the outcome/importance so what is the point. Also, it's either an OTP and an annoying interloper who has no chance or FL is waffling and if she doesn't care enough to pick, why should I? BUT!!!!! The very few times it's done right, I lose my mind - this, Bu Bu Jing Xin, Lost You Forever. By that I mean, both choices have to have equal narrative importance and arcs and time (PA for example, is definitely a dual ML drama in the traditional, not "we are putting a fig leaf over a danmei adaptation" form), but also I am a sucker of there is a possibility for either depending on reactions and the world and/or FL loves both differently for different reasons during different points in her life. This is vvvvvvvv hard to pull off right but when they do, mmmmm!
PPPS I don't usually go "threesome would solve all your problems" (and here it definitely won't since YX's issues are not of the type to be healed by love) but it would be at least worth a try? Chu Qiao definitely has enough energy for both of her dudes, YY is icy enough he needs two people to melt him and clearly poor YX needs double the TLC. win win win, say I.

Spotlight Series:
Spotlight On Something Old, But New To Me...
Title: Irresistible Love.
Also Called: Uncontrolled Love
Novel Title: Force Majeure
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Directed By: Sun Cheng Zhi & Meng Rui
Written By: Lan Lin
Starring: Meng Rui as Xie Yan
Wang Bowen as Shu Nian
Release Dates: June 28, 2016 (First Movie)
August 20, 2016 (Sequel or Part 2)
Country: China
Language: Chinese
Shu Nian is a orphan and meets wealthy boy Xie Yan who "adopts" him. The two are inseparable friends with Shu Nian calling Xie Yan "Young Master"
Shu Nian is gay and in love with Xie Yan. Xie Yan is a self entitled asshole in many occasions but he can't deal with his feelings for Shu Nian often using force and dubious consent to touch Shu Nian.
As adults Xie Yan has a manipulator girlfriend who is jealous of the obvious closeness between the two.
Final Thoughts: I had a love hate thing with this movie. Honestly I never heard of it. I did like the actors. I felt so bad for Shu Nian. He reminds of MODC'S YU XI GU in that he had no parents and always seemed to get the short end of the stick. And I like Xie Yan almost as much I hated him. He was so entitled but when he was sweet he was a sweetheart. I'm not sorry I watched these two films. According to my research 2 Endings were made. One where you Shu Nian dies from injuries due to a car accident and Xie Yan learns of this and is devastated and isolated him self. (I didn't see this ending)
The ending I saw was Xie Yan went to a location hoping to see Shu Nian after a long time. Supposedly Shu Nian doesn't show. As Xie Yan prepares to leave he notices a man watering grass or plants wearing a mask and baseball hat. He immediately notices its Shu Nian. When the mask falls it is indeed Shu Nian who is limping and is slightly disfigured from the accident. Xie Yan professes his love. The two kiss...the end.
Asking some BL Fam if they've heard of this one. Of course @absolutebl having an impressive numbers of BL's watched. And @pose4photoml & @lutawolf
Or @wanderlust-in-my-soul have you heard or seen this?

“My five stars danmei novels.” | Short maybe not short reasons why I like them.
Tumblr media
🎋 —Yuwu.
Tumblr media
carrd.
Another one by the Queen. I wanted to read Yuwu a long time ago, and when I finished it, I was extremely satisfied. Meatbun just doesn't fail.
Mo Xi and Gu Mang are characters that I both love and respect. In fact, Gu Mang is one of my best friend's protégé (in this parentheses, I want to cheer on her because she had to bear with my curses on a certain character at 5:00 a.m.)
Yuwu is a novel that shows the cruelty of slavery. It makes feel horrified when you read the pain slaves have to go through —people of high class often forgot that they were humans, just like them. The fight for their rights is depicted in the book and the way it was managed with was immaculate.
Yuwu also has two of my favourite things in novels: politics and cultivation. There are a lot of intrigues, and I want to mention that this novel is connected with 2ha and if you have read said book before, you'll understand more about the character's origins.
Did I cry? For God's sake, this is a novel by Meatbun. I remember I was traveling with my family when I was reading the last chapters and I was this )( close to cry in public. Meatbun just has a way to get into your heart with her words.
🎋 —Fanservice Paradox.
Tumblr media
carrd.
This is my most recently read novel, and the first thing I want to say is that YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO THIS BOP NOW. Pozhen help this novel get its five stars.
Fanservice Paradox is about a boyband! I actually stan BTS, and Kaleido sort of make me thing about them because they both started in a small company and now they're superstars love by millions of people!
Zhichu knows how to write that tension between her characters. It was so satisfying reading it —you end up shipping them as hard as TingJue fans!
This book also has a lot of philosophical and mathematical thinking. Fang Juexia has a degree on mathematics and Pei Tingsong is a student of philosophy. Their studies have a lot of influence on the way they view life and they make you reflect.
🎋 —TGCF.
Tumblr media
carrd.
TGCF holds a special place in my heart. I read it when I was going through a hard moment in my life, and it helped me a lot.
I didn't know I could cry so much reading a novel until Hua Cheng popped up. Yes, that handsome gentleman made me realised I wasn't as strong as I thought. There moments I was doing OK and then I thought about him and I had tears in my eyes, I'm not lying.
And guys, there's a reason why Xie Lian is Hua Cheng's only god —he makes you want to worship him once you've gone through all his story (but remember to worship them together so that your wishes come true!)
THEIR RELATIONSHIP, OMG. Just one word: devotion.
I liked the way the story is written, with one volume in the present and the other in the past. The arcs are also amazing <3.
🎋 —Wushuang.
Tumblr media
carrd.
I TAKE FULL OFFENSE if you've been following me all this time without reading this novel, seriously, stop what you're doing right now and go read it.
Wushuang is a Qian Qiu's sequel (another amazing novel, by the way), and it has POLITICS AND MARTIAL ARTS. 💖
Feng Xiao is a beauty with amazing martial skills (hey, he even had a fight with Yan Wushi once), and Cui Buqu has the kind of brain you want to kiss. FengCui is my best friend's favourite couple! Although these two aren't the kind to recite poetry, their actions speak how much they care about each other.
The plot is [chef's kiss]. I didn't want to do anything besides reading Wushuang at that time because it was just so addictive.
🎋 —Nan Chan.
Tumblr media
carrd.
I remember this novel as the one with the best first chapter I've read in my life, just read the following:
“What do you see?”
“A mountain of corpses amidst a sea of blood.”
“Why have you come?”
“To kill.”
AND THIS IS LITERALLY WHAT YOU FIND WHEN YOU OPEN THE NOVEL. Tell me you if you're not baited.
Nan Chan is a novel that covers the Eight Sufferings in life according to Buddhism in a series of arcs that have characters that make you easily connected with their stories.
The main characters are 🥺. And, oh, this novel has a dragon, A DRAGON. Cang Ji is the best. ♡ And Jing Lin, get behind me, I'll protect you! (said the girl who is 1.50 m tall). Reading their wedding was literally one of the best things that could happened in my life.
And, ah, how can't I not say this? This novel has the character I hate the most. Tao Zhi, fuck you.
Tumblr media
And that's it for this part of Angie recs! Hope you give a try to all these amazing novels. ♡
I'll post pt. 4 when BAB has more official art.

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) Masterpost
Tumblr media
Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) is a Vocal synth (Vocaloid and SynthV) music project. It consists of songs themed around different figures throughout Chinese history. The project is a collaboration between different artists and creatives, with music and videos featuring prominent traditional Chinese elements. The project's title translates to "The Records of Magnificence of the Wangchuan" - In Chinese mythology, "Wangchuan" (or River of Forgetting) is a river in the Underworld that can rid one of their past life's memories, similar to the river Lethe.
A mobile game adaptation has also been developed by NetEast. Unfortunately, I haven't played it so I can't give much insight on it. However, I assume that its premise is similar to that of the idea behind the project as a whole: all these historical figures meeting each other in the Underworld after they died. Maybe.
You can find all the songs on Bilibili. The official Weibo can be found here. The game's website, which includes all characters appearing so far in the game, can be found here, and its Weibo can be found here.
(If you prefer YouTube, I've also put together a handy playlist. Please know that most of these videos are reposts though, so please watch the original Bilibili MVs if you can!)
This blog is where I will be posting everything I feel like I need to say about the songs in this project. A lot of it is lifted from my Twitter account but will be in much more detail. Note that I probably won't touch collab songs, or songs that don't focus solely on the project's own characters.
Disclaimer: I do not speak Chinese, nor am I an expert on Chinese history. Therefore, I cannot reliably translate the lyrics to these songs, nor my words should be taken as gospel. I am merely a nerd gushing about my hyperfixation.

Less Popular Danmei Character Finals
CWs: misgendering as a joke ("princess"), slavery, animal mention, suggestive language
Yan Zhengming from Liu Yao: the Revitalization of Fuyao Sect
Submission: Winner of the award for highest number of times I’ve called a man a “pretty princess”
Apparently has a fantastic character development into the Sect Leader (I’m not that far), but he’s also just a pretty princess <2
He’s the eldest disciple of Han Muchun / Fuyao Sect who was born into a rich family. He ran away at age seven and became Han Muchun’s first apprentice/disciple. He’s similar to a spoiled young master character, but he doesn’t really bully anyone; he may try to bully/clash with Cheng Qian, but I don’t think he wins (been a while since I started it - he’s like 15, and Cheng Qian is ~9-10 at this point)
“Strict with others but lenient on himself” → responsible Sect Leader pipeline, More at 10 pm
Propaganda from @ komaneko-kun:
Gu Mang from Yuwu / Remnants of Filth
Submission: He’s my little guy
He’s the tragic ML who betrayed the MC while also being the biggest fucking clown / the comedic relief
He truly believes he’s a fucking wolf at one point.
Essentially, Gu Mang was a slave in Murong Lian’s household, which led him to meet the MC, Mo Xi, who is a noble of similar standing to the Murong clan. He eventually becomes the General-in-Chief of the Wangba Army (later renamed to the Northern Frontier Army bc it was a funny name) and fights for the Chonghua Empire. However, since the Wangba Army was made of slaves, not a single of his fellow soldiers were given a proper burial, which - along with other reasons - led to Gu Mang defecting to an enemy nation (that also killed Mo Xi’s father and may or may not be cannibals).
The story begins when said enemy nation trades Gu Mang back to Chonghua as a prisoner of war with parts of his soul gone, causing him to believe he’s a majestic blue wolf. The summary is a tiny bit misleading, albeit not wrong - “they’ve slept together before” is actually more “they slept together multiple times while Mo Xi, at the very least, is incredibly in love with Gu Mang.”
Gu Mang’s also pretty funny, even with his memories gone, albeit the inherent tragedy is overwhelming. Idc what “evils” he committed… the Lotus Pavilion thing or whatever was fucked up. The author is so brutal to him, and for what? Funsies? (<-mainly joking, but it’s a SAD story… I’ve cried so many times)
Anyway, Gu Mang Did Not Deserve This 2023
Wu Xi from Lord Seventh / Qi Ye
Submission: He is the roundworm in my stomach
Qi Ye tells the story of Prince Jing Beiyuan’s seventh life, which is a repeat of his first life. Wu Xi is the Great Shaman’s Shamanet and the Empire’s captive from Nanjiang who did not appear in Jing Beiyuan’s first life.
From what I remember, he uses something similar to magic to make a court official become aroused / see a beautiful woman and embarrass himself in front of the entire court. As a child.
He also has a vast array of dangerous and venomous animals, one of which he gifts to Jing Beiyuan after they become friends.

Rant time
I've been watching review vids of straight romances that are popular like Colleen Hoover, EL James, Stephanie Meyer, Anna Todd, Beth Reekles, etc. and I am literally SHOCKED at how HORRIBLE some of the love interests are to their partners.
ESPECIALLY in comparison to danmei love interests. Yan Xiaohan from Golden Terrace redesigned his house to be wheelchair-accessible for his partner. Hua Cheng waited 800-FUCKING-YEARS for his partner and built a thousand statues to him. Mo Xi from Remnants of Filth fought to gain custody of Gu Mang from his asshole master.
I'm not saying that the partner has to be perfect, not everyone can be a Hua Cheng or a Yan Xiaohan, but at least have them not be actively abusive? Is that so much to ask?
No one deserves to be abused, whether gay, straight, bi, pan, trans, or whatever you may identify as.
