If I post a teaser for a WIP I haven’t touched since December, y’all will pressure me to finish it, right?
"Please don’t hate me for what I'm about to tell you," Leonard started, still staring at the replicator and willing it to give him alcohol. "Jocelyn and I had our reasons."
"Your behavior is concerning me, Leonard." Spock brought the tea to the table and physically pulled Leonard away from the wall, and sat him down. "Hating you for choices made with your ex-wife would be illogical."
"It's not about the choices we made, it's about the information we kept secret." Leonard looked down at his tea and held the hot mug between his hands. "Jocelyn's other name is T’Sey."
"That is… a Vulcan name."
"It is."

Here, have some unedited, stream-of-consciousness ideas about transmasc Triumvirate for Pride Month 🏳️‍⚧️
McCoy came out the youngest - when he was around 7 or 8, and started HRT young enough that top surgery wasn't necessary for him, any chest growth was negligible. Apart from keeping up with his hormonal implants, being trans hasn't much affected him; his family are modern, 23rd Century people goddamnit, they ain't gonna throw a fuss at their tween naming himself Leonard if that's what makes him happy.
He never bothered with bottom surgery, and he donated his eggs when he and Jocelyn went through IVF. Jocelyn carried Joanna, but McCoy wouldn't have been fully opposed to being a seahorse dad if it was more convenient for them at the time - needless to say, he's still relieved when it's not something he needed to go through to be a father.
All the same, he is very reticent of sharing the fact that he's transgender. It don't matter one bit to nobody but those who share his bed, thank you very much.
Kirk came out as a teenager, sometime around the age of 16. Overcoming the trauma of Kodos and Tarsus IV was something he had to make some sort of peace with first before he realised the discomfort he felt in his body and the perception of himself by other people wasn't any sort of lingering dysmorphia related to childhood food insecurity. He has what some would consider the stereotypical tomboy-to-butch-to-FtM pipeline. He's always been charming with the ladies, and gaining confidence in his identity as a trans man just made him all the more magnetic.
He had top surgery prior to joining Starfleet, and bottom surgery prior to his first posting on a starship.
He's more open and causal about his transition than McCoy is; if other people happen to bring it up, he'll proudly talk your ear off about his gender journey, but he wouldn't disclose at the drop of a hat, either.
Spock came out the latest of the trio. He was an adult, he was already in Starfleet Academy, and it took him a few years after realising his gender identity to start any sort of medical transition. He's on HRT, but hasn't had top surgery or bottom surgery.
Being transgender isn't stigmatised on Vulcan, however Spock was more reluctant to explore his experience with gender incongruity than he would otherwise have been due to being half-Vulcan - either because of internalised shame at deviating from the norm and having these feelings, or as a result of prior medical trauma from being closely studied and monitored as the first human-Vulcan hybrid.
McCoy gives him the what-for the first time he realised Spock binds unsafely during away missions ("And no, sir, it is not 'logical' to purposefully put yourself at risk because you happen to have more durable bones than a human! You still have lungs that gotta breathe, man!")
He is, however unexpected, the most candid of his status as a transgender man.

We need to make T'Pring/Bones a thing. The bitch4bitch energy that these two would give would be phenomenal. And Spock and Jim would be fucked. Spock is horrified; he knows what T'Pring is like and he sees all the ways this is going to bite him in the ass coming. Jim doesn't, so - at first - he's tickled by the whole thing. (Bones is dating Spock's ex-wife - best. day. ever.) But then reality sets in. If he thought Bones harped about things, well. At least Bones gets to the point - loudly and often - but T'Pring is subtle. She says things in a way that means Jim doesn't even realize he's been insulted until 2 hours later. Or that she's cleverly tricked him into doing something he didn't want too until he's halfway through the task. And also - why the hell does Bones get to date a Vulcan when he's the most illogical human this side of the galaxy? Jim can barely get Spock to call him by his first name half the time, how is this fair? This is horrible.
(The rest of the crew find it all hilarious. Nyota and Christine are especially amused.)
(T'Pring's family - if they're still alive - are exasperatedly resigned. They always thought bonding her to half-human might corrupt her mind, but they didn't expect it to go this far.)
(Joanna loves her. It was the one thing that Bones was worried about, honestly. But they bond over fashion and books and things like the philosophical and ethical merits of revenge and whether it's better to bury your enemies quickly or play the long con. Jocelyn has (1) more reason for hating Bones.)

McSpirk's Pokemon Teams
I decided to try and put together some pokemon teams for McSpirk just for fun. These teams are mostly comprised from vibes.
All under the cut because this is a looooooong long post
Bones
Tumblr media
Meganium
Chikorita is cute
Its pokedex says it can calm aggressive feelings.
Overall, I just think it'd be a cute pokemon for him to raise? Maybe one he's even has since childhood.
Blissey A classic pokemon for Doctors and Nurses. They heal other pokemon in the wild. Just very caring and fitting for Bones, honestly. A must-have.
Togekiss Imagine him raising a Togepi. IMAGINE IT. Evolving Togepi to Togetic through friendship. And then to Togekiss Also "It shares many blessings with people who respect one another’s rights and avoid needless strife." Is it fitting or funny, who knows.
Umbreon A contrast to Spock, which you'll see later! I like to think this pokemon was a gift from Spock and/or Kirk, given to him so that he has a "battling pokemon" for protection - the catch being that Umbreon is mostly a defense pokemon, rather than an attack-focused pokemon. Plus, it can glow in the dark for him. One of the three eeveelutions that evolves through friendship.
Miltank Look this was mostly just a funny addition. But also Miltank makes Moomoo Milk, which is a healing item in-game.
"Its milk is packed with nutrition, making it the ultimate beverage for the sick or weary."
Drakloak Okay I was originally just going to have Umbreon be his only pokemon capable of fighting. However, after going through pokedex entries, I thought this pokemon would also work as a great part of his team. Drakloak dotes on Dreepy until they evolve. It gets restless if it does not have a dreepy to care for, and will care for literally anything as a substitute. Also its evolution is super cunty, I almost gave it to Spock. Maybe this, too, was gifted to him, and he's just in the middle of raising it into a Dragapult.
EXTRA: Either has raised or will raise a Cubone at some point. Like are you kididng me. I was gonna put a mudsdale in the team, but decided that maybe he left his Mudsdale that he grew up with to Joanna, so that they can take care of each other
I think his "main" pokemon would be Meganium or Blissey.
Spock
Tumblr media
Espeon Contrasts with Bones. A pokemon that evolves with high friendship. A psychic type. Plus I think he'd love its big ears. Overall, just a very fitting pokemon for him.
Lucario "A well-trained one can sense auras to identify and take in the feelings of creatures over half a mile away." "It can tell what people are thinking. Only Trainers who have justice in their hearts can earn this Pokémon’s trust." Another pokemon that evolves through high friendship. I just think it's a good fit.
Gardevoir Will create black holes to protect its trainer. Make of that what you will. An extremely loyal psychic and fairy pokemon. Has a general air of grace and nobility that I think suits Spock.
Intelleon Look. I know what you're thinking. Why the fuck would I choose Intelleon over all starters. Honestly, I was tempted to give him Sceptile or Meowscarada. However, wanted to give McSpirk different types of starters. And out of the water starters, it was between Intelleon and Samurott. So why Intelleon? I think him raising a very tearful little lizard into a lanky, cunty spy lizard is fucking hilarious. So yes, this is a bit of a meme option.
Haxorus "While usually kindhearted, it can be terrifying if angered. Tusks that can slice through steel beams are how Haxorus deals with its adversaries."
While Spock does have some strong pokemon, I think this one is a good one to sort of underly that somewhat Secret Vulcan Strength.
Ursaluna I disregarded any qualms of time-related forms, so paradox pokemon and Hisuian pokemon were considered! This one was decided on with help from the lovelies of the McSpirk discord server! Spock has this pokemon as a reference to the sehlat of Vulcan. This is a pokemon he's had since he was a child, and it's shiny to boot. A unique pokemon to match a unique guy like him.
EXTRA: I think he'd raise an Abra at some point. I was torn between a Goodra and a Haxorus for him, I do think that they all have more than six pokemon, and that these are just the ones most commonly in their rotation. So maybe he does have a Goodra that stays on Vulcan or smth!
I also considered some Poison types for him, namely Roserade or Crobat!
I did consider giving him a Mewtwo. Genuinely.
I think his main pokemon would be Espeon or Ursaluna.
Kirk
Okay, Kirk was an interesting one. So far, I was able to pretty much make teams that I think could fit both AOS and TOS. However, Kirk gave me the most trouble with this. So of the three teams, I think this one is probably the one I'm not as certain on.
Tumblr media
Charizard A classic pokemon, one that searches for challenges, and never attacks those weaker than itself. Its pre-evolution Charmeleon purposefully gets into fights, which I think fits AOS Jim pre-academy lol.
Sylveon The third eeveelution to evolve by friendship. Its pokedex entries talk of its ability to soothe conflicts with its calming aura. A very affectionaste pokemon, I see it being close with Bones and Spock's eeveelutions, and perhaps being the most outgoing of the three.
Scrafty "While mostly known for having the temperament of an aggressive ruffian, this Pokémon takes very good care of its family, friends, and territory." Suits the outer perspective of him, and I also think AOS Jim in particular would vibe with a Scrafty.
Dragonite LOOK AT IT. It's a kindhearted pokemon that always feels the need to help others, and frequently rescues others from drowning. Just a very Jim feeling pokemon to me, honestly. Also a classic.
Ampharos
Smth smth... Guiding light? Ampharos is known for the way it shines in darkness, and is known to be a beacon for the lost. Juat has the vibes of a Jim pokemon to me
Clodsire
"When attacked, this Pokémon will retaliate by sticking thick spines out from its body. It’s a risky move that puts everything on the line." Risky moves, you say? Well that definitely sounds like Kirk.
EXTRA
I think his main pokemon would be Charizard.
Was tempted to give AOS Jim a Cyclizar. Maybe he has one, and it's just not in his regular rotation?
I think at some point he'd at least befriend a Latios. "Latios will only open its heart to a Trainer with a compassionate spirit." - If it wasn't for Dragonite, Latios would be his dragon-type pokemon. And that goes for either version of him.
I was tempted to give him a whole Mew. Just for the fun of it.
Maaaybe maybe, Bones gifts him the Cubone-now-Marowak that he raised. And Spock gifts him the Abra-now-Kadabra he raisedm which evolves into Alakazam. Just maybe.
Bonuses
While I think all their Pokemon are more than happy to hang out, I think the eeveelutions in particular love being together. Find them in cuddle piles if they're not with their trainers.
In AOS I can see Bones and Spock raising a Cubone together.
While I was making these teams, I thought about how the Lake Trio from Diamond and Pearl suited them. Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf: Bringers and also erasers of Knowledge, Emotion and Willpower

My Star Trek HeadCanons
Hiya! I just had a lot of head-canon's running around in my head so I just wanted to share a few! These are an amalgamation of things grabbed from Memory Alpha/Beta, as well as what I just like to think are implications of happenings that took places in these character’s lives. I also have a more adult list for more sexy and/or serious HC’s (if you wanna see those)
~~~~~~
Jim Kirk
Certified genius, by both Human and Vulcan standards
Very ADHD
Loves to dances, especially as a kid
This man has freckles everywhere
Had a pet mini-cow named Pickles
Graduated highschool at 16
Got his Masters in Xeno-linguistics and Engineering from UC Berkeley & MIT respectively, by the age of 21
Lover of old 20th/21st music ( think the Beasty Boys, Nickelback, Red Hot Chili Peppers, FFDP,  Lil’ John, Dr. Dre, 2Pac, ect.)
He purposely fucks with Bones by singing “Get Low” anytime the joke call for it ‘cause he know the old Grumpus hates it
Has a cow plushie that he has kept to this day, it was his dad’s.
Loves himself a good Pina Colada
Is honestly a huge bookworm (his guilty pleasure is dirty novels lol)
loves to cuddle (especially with Bones or Galia)
allergic to most fruits and flowers (including a lot of aliens fruits. Also strawberries, which sucks because he loves them), as well as most nuts
He’s such a sucker for gelato, but Bones restricts how much he has :(
A very loving and open pansexual
Loves to wear all kinds of clothing, especially a good dress every now and then
Met Sulu in his 2nd year because he joined the fencing club
Took Chekov under his wing and they were study buddies
Spock
Has a stuffed Sehlat  names Muffins that Sybok gave him when he was 2
Queer as shit
Follower of the “Talk Shit, Get Hit” way of life
Followed Sybok & Micheal everywhere (even sneaking out with whenever they did during the older sibling’s shenanigans)
Always got carried by his “scruff” by I-Chaya whenever he was getting into things he wasn’t supposed to
His answer to everything when in trouble was “Following one’s curiosity is logical, it is how one learns” (his made Amanda always laugh and Sarek question his life)
Has a tattoo of the vulcan G’teth bush & Induku tree wrapped in Terran roses on his left shoulder (an homage to his family’s humanity and vulcan culture) as well as the mark of the Khas-wan wrapped along his left bicep.
He has a few ear piercings and actually likes ear jewelry (it is one of his few illogical indulges)
Is a avid poetry reader
Mastered the art of Suus Manha around the age of 10
He very much understands human colloquialisms and metaphors, he just acts like he doesn't to fuck with people.
During the customary show-and-tell every child has after their Khas-wan, Spock brought the pelt of a young Le-Matya he had killed, because it was only logical to tell in detail how he survived to his classmates (and rub it in Stonn’s face)
Totally has a secret love for ABBA (and disco in general), Reggaeton, American Country music, and dancing of many terran verities thanks to his mother and her side of the family (including but not limited to knowing how to whine, the tango, the waltz, and southern line dancing)
Dyslexic as shit, but learned to overcome it thanks to his mama
Such a Mama’s boy, will beat of anyone who talks shit about Amanda, including adults when he was a child
cried for days when Sybok was sent off planet, and again when Micheal left, and no one was able to comfort him besides Muffins
Leonard Horatio “Bones” McCoy
The gentlest person alive under all that bluster
Half-Hispanic on his Mama’s side
Makes tamales during the christmas holidays
The galaxies #1 Daddy, he has a mug that says so
Was in charge of hair day when they lived together because he was the parent that braided the most efficiently (plus it kept his hands very dexterous for work)
Knits Joanna sweaters (he also crocheted her a stuffed Tinkadink because it was her favorite Pokemon and like the fact that it hits other pokemon out of the sky)
Wore a pretty floral white and lavender sundress dress to Daddy-Daughter day because when Joanna was in 3rd grade she wanted to try out some “boy” clothing but was worried her friends would think she was weird
Loves Country music (especially Mark Twain, Morgan Wallen, and Dolly Parton)
He’s also a metal-head
Always lets Joanna dress him whenever they visit, they also paint each others nail
Almost tore Joanna’s 5th grade teacher a new one because some little twat kept bullying her about her hair
Applied to the VSA with an amazing transcript and medical journals to his name and was denied for some bullshit reason, which is why he’s salty about Vulcans
Discovered he was Bi at a young are because he saw an interview of Ambassador Sarek holo and thought he was real pretty
Graduated highschool at 16, got his MD and PHD is Psychology by 21 and finished his residency at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta
Married Jocelyn Treadway at 19, and had Joanna at 22
Makes time for the gym even if his week is hellish (both when he was in school, as well as at work), has very much a well built dad-bod with a big chest and thighs
Was the captain of his high school track team
Danced competitively all throughout his childhood (mainly traditional hispanic cultural dances and was in a more contemporary crew throughout high school and college when he had the time)
Was a exotic dancer starting at 18 to pay for college, which is also where he met Jocelyn
He also took Chekov under his wing and would given anyone who made comments about the whiz kid a patented McCoy glare and just the best passive aggressive bedside manner whenever they were under his care
Wears his Daddy’s Saint Raphael necklace that has Joanna’s birthstone
Nyota Uhura
Secretly loves those cheesy rom-com holovids
a pansexual Queen
A woman who lived by the motto “Gaslight, Girlboss, Gatekeep”
Hated when Kirk and Galia would always cuddle in their dorm room, but eased up one night when she heard Kirk singing a Orion lullaby to a sleeping Galia.
While she puts her career first, she is a very maternal person at heart and loves to babysit whenever Joanna would visit the Academy/Enterprise
oddly enough, shes an amazing impressionist
Beginning halfway through her second year (Kirk’s first), Kirk started to randomly talk to her Vulcan, than Klingon and slowly it turning into an ongoing competition to see who between the two of them know more languages
Loves to do Yoga as well as leaned how to traditional Orion dance from Galia as a form of exercise
Found out after a night of drinking with their friend group that Leonard knew how to poll dance and asked him for lessons whenever their schedules lined up, it be came a bi-monthly thing for them
Always gets her family cute little odds-and-ends for their birthday, as well as a card that says how much she loves them in different languages rotating every year
Shares Spock’s love for earrings and will get him a new pair for his birthday
During the bi-annual talent show, she and Spock usually did an act together
One year it was a tie between her Spock, and Jim & Galia’s dance act
Her, Hendorf, CHristine and Leonard have a once a month girl’s night where they meet in Nyota & Galia’s dorm and talk shit
When she heard that Gary Mitchell spread rumors about Jim being a whore, she did everything in her power to make that man’s life miserable
Sometimes the odd person will make a misogynistic/racist comment about her or her appearance, and miraculously Jim and the person who said it willinup at Medical with Leonard being extra mean to said misogynist (and if Spock hears anything while he’s out wither her, they’ll get the verbal ass whooping of their lives as well as a demerit in their file)
T'Pol, Saavik, and Joanna: We were robbed of potentially amazing things
Had ENT got a fifth season, the creators were planning on revealing T'Pol as half-Romulan. I wanna know how that would've been explored! It's not even explored in Beta canon- as far as I can tell. Meanwhile, Saavik being a Vulcan-Romulan hybrid is explored in Beta- probably due to T'Pol's reveal just being discussed while Saavik's was cut from the script and left in the novelization.
How would T'Pol meeting her father, learning she was half-Romulan have been explored? How would T'Pol navigate it? Would the Enterprise crew and newly founded UFP have learnt of this? If so, would it have been kept a secret thing as to not conflict with the "few have seen a Romulan proper and knew of their origins until TOS' Balance of Terror"?
Plus, just the notion of having a half-Romulan as one of the main cast and that's not an antagonist? I would've loved that. The potential to explore Romulan culture through that- well, sort of, depends on what T'Pol would've done and her father, I guess.
This would've been so neat... But I also really like the Romulans so I have some biases. I would've also just liked to see what else might have happened in a fifth season of ENT.
Also, Joanna, McCoy's daughter might have appeared in a fourth season of TOS, so I feel like we were robbed there. I would have loved to see Joanna and the father-daughter relationship between her and Bones.
Jewish Pagan Spock
I have never covered it in any of my fics, but my Spock is a Jewish polytheist. His father is Vulcan, his mother is Jewish, and he has all kinds of idols all over his quarters.
Tumblr media
I dunno what you're seeing, but I'm seeing Lamassu and Athena.
Tumblr media
And here he is, being chill, with a burnt offering going. And a crystal ball.
But there is. NO. Disputing. That Spock is a Jewish-coded character! Or that both his creator and the guy who played him were Jewish. And the thing about Nimoy was that he infused his art with his Jewish identity. Let's not forget where the ta'al comes from!
Feeling like you owe allegiance to two irreconcilable worlds, constantly code-switching, always feeling like you're coming up short? BIG Jewish mood!
I feel like rather than seeing Spock's Vulcan heritage as his 'Jewish' side, it makes a lot more sense to imagine his father, who comes from a polytheist culture (Source? TAS: "Yesteryear"), as being the non-Jewish part of him, and to think of his mother as being Jewish, which would make him half human, half Vulcan, and ALL Jewish.
I also like to imagine Kirk as being Jewish, since Bill Shatner is. I have a lot of complicated feelings about Shatner, and especially his homophobia, but credit where credit is due. We see Kirk as bi because Shatner accidentally played him that way. Or maybe because De Kelly kept ratcheting up the sexual tension on set. Hard to say.
And so, I like to imagine a McKirk holiday with them bringing Joanna to her gramma's for Christmas. Kirk and Spock show up in ugly Hanukkah sweaters, and Spock makes just an EPIC quantity of latkes.
And maybe he's an idolator, or whatever, and maybe he's married to two men, and maybe a Rabbi would not approve, but a fully-healed Spock doesn't care. He's just out there living his best life, doing what he can to acknowledge his complex identity without losing any part of himself, and I need that.
au where, after ST ITD Bones is send to work in a colony for six months but then he decides to stay there. He and Jim shared a kiss, more then one, before Daystorm but never talked about it after. Bones ends up adopting a bunch of kids, eight of them and every single one is from a different planet. And everyone on them is something new and exciting that make Bones learn new languages, culture and the way they want to be referred to.
A small non-fic about Jim and what he has to learn when he and Bones being serious.
Jim goes from the man dad doesn't want to talk about to the man dad is dating, passing from the man dad allow to talk about, to the man dad talks to once a week and then twice but for 20 minutes maximum, to the man dad talks for hours at time, to the man who invites them all on the Enterprise because he wants to spend time with their dad, to his boyfriend.
And when they become serious™ Jim becomes part of the family and, even if he already talks a good portion of their languages, he has not much more knowledge of them as individuals. Bones knows they are a lot, so he starts with something simple: in the middle of James T. Kirk's third mission on the Enterprise, to boldly go where no men, women and others, are no had gone before, a board arrives. It's not much bigger than a tray but it's the most valuable thing on the ship. The first thing Jim learns are their pronouns, and as Bones explains to him in a video message, most of them are a translation in Standard of the one they use but it's a start and it should make simpler for Jim to talk with them all.
A Vulcan Smile
Tumblr media
Request: Hi!! I was wondering if I could request something where the reader is spocks sister, same parents and all, but she chose her human half instead of the vulcan one and like maybe her and bones start dating but Spock doesn't really agree with it. Thank you!! :D - @prussiasgurl23
A/N: I don’t really know what happened with this but some of my real feelings about Bones slipped out and now I think this is a slow burn thats going to have many parts. Oops
A man crouched down at the edge of the playground and one of your students ran to him. He wrapped his arms tightly around her and stood up, swinging her legs. Her high pitch giggle filled the yard and you narrowed your eyes at the scene. Grabbing a PADD, you quickly crossed the grass and came to a stop in front of them.
“Joanna, who’s this?” you asked the young girl in a cheerful tone.
“My dad!” she answered as the man set her down. “He’s taking me to go get ice cream.”
“Is he?” You turned your smile to the man.
“I am!” he grinned and wrapped his arm around his daughter's shoulders, but when he looked at you he noticed the fakeness of your smile. “If that's alright. The school day’s over, isn’t it?” He he twisted the arm around her so that he could check his watch.
“It is,” you confirmed before turning your attention back to the girl. “Joanna, why don’t you go play for a little while the grownups talk? I think they’re playing freeze tag over by the swings.”
Joanna eyed the two of you for a moment before deciding she didn’t really care what grownup discussion you were about to have and running off. You pulled up Joanna’s file on your PADD.
“What’s your name?” you asked.
“Leonard McCoy.”
You held up your PADD comparing the picture in Joanna’s file with the man in front of you. With a satisfied hum, you lowered the PADD again.
“Well, it appears you are who you say you are.”
“Always good to hear,” he smiled. It was a nice smile.
“I didn’t realize that the Enterprise was going to be in this system.”
His expression shifted for only a moment as he wondered briefly what your interest in the Enterprise was, but he quickly decided to ignore it. “They were just droppin’ me off for shore leave.”
“How long are you planning on staying?”
“Three days.”
“I bet Joanna’s pretty happy about that.”
“Not nearly as happy as I am.”
You matched his smile, “Well, you two enjoy your ice cream. And let me know if you need anything while you’re here. I’m just down the block from your sister’s.”
He started to thank you but was interrupted by another teacher shouting for you. The two of you turned to see three boys attacking each other on the other side of the playground. You sighed and rolled your eyes. The action reminded Leonard of someone but he couldn’t quite place his finger on who.
“I’ve gotta go handle this,” you told him as you started in the boys’ direction.
Leonard called for his daughter and watched as you easily pulled the boys apart, held one off the ground as he tried to kick his friends, and gave a particularly aggressive Vulcan boy a firm “kroykah”.
-
The whole way back to his sister’s house Leonard couldn’t shake the feeling that he knew you. Your name, Grayson, rang some distant bell in his memory. Some of your mannerisms felt all too familiar to him, but your smile was something entirely new. He was sure he would have remembered that if he had seen it before.
“I’m in the kitchen!” his sister greeted as he opened the door.
“Go get your homework done,” Leonard told his daughter.
“But Dad,” she drew out the vowel in Dad.
“Don’t even start. You got ice cream.”
“But I never get to see you.” She blinked up at him, eyes wide and lower lip puffed out just slightly. “I want to spend time with you.”
“You can spend time you me when your homework’s done.”
She huffed but went up to her room, hopefully to start her homework.
Leonard shook his head and went into the kitchen. “That kid gets more manipulative each time I see her.”
“She’s just getting warmed up,” Donna said from the stove.
“I met your neighbour.”
“Which one?”
“Joanna’s teacher.”
“Oh, (Y/N). She’s a sweetheart.”
“Did she come here with family?” Donna raised her eyebrows at him and Leonard jumped to clarify, “She looks familiar.”
“No, her grandparents died when she was in university and she’s single.” She raised her eyebrows again.
He tried to ignore her expression. “No parents?”
“They died on Vulcan. Poor thing. She has a few siblings, but they don’t seem all that close. She doesn’t talk about them much.” Leonard could always trust Donna to know everything there was to know about the people around town. She radiated southern charm.
“What were they doing on Vulcan?”
“They lived there. (Y/N)’s half Vulcan.” She stopped what she was doing so she could look at him fully. “You didn’t notice?”
“Well, her hair was covering her ears.”
“She’s green, Len.”
“She smiled. Vulcan’s don’t smile.”
She shook her head. “Always were a sucker for a pretty smile.”
“Wait, half Vulcan?”
“Uh huh,” she nodded.
“Oh. Oh no.” He sank into a chair at the kitchen table as it all started to connect. The familiarity of your name, your ability to lift a large fifth grader like he was a sack of flour, your comfortability with Vulcan phrases, that god forsaken eye roll, it all made sense. He couldn’t believe he had missed it, but how was he supposed to know a Vulcan could smile. Let alone smile like that.
Feeling his sister’s questioning stare, Leonard pulled himself from his thoughts and spoke them aloud, “She’s Spock’s sister.”
“Spock?” She thought back to the stories he had told him of his time on the Enterprise. “The green blooded hobgoblin?”
“That’s the one.”
“I hope she doesn’t know you call him that.”
-
“That’s the man who said those things?” you shouted at your screen. “Donna’s brother?”
“Control yourself,” Spock ordered.
“I am completely in control. You haven’t begun to see me lose control. That doctor is going to see me lose control.” You spit the words ‘that doctor’ out like they tasted rotten on your tongue.
“I did not inform you of his behavior so that you would be consumed by some foolish desire to protect me,” he told you.
You glared at him, your jaw beginning to ache with how tight you were clenching it. You sucked in a breath in an attempt to calm yourself before you spoke again, “Why didn’t you tell me before?”
“I did not wish to ruin your relationship with his family.”
“So why tell me now?”
“You have a right to all of the available information before you choose how to interact with him.”
Taking another breath, you nodded. “You wanted to protect me.”
“You have clearly demonstrated that you can protect yourself.”
You studied the minute changes in his expression. “You’re worried that I would get close to him because of my relationship with his family and you didn’t want my heart to get broken when I discovered organically that he’s racist, so you told me first. That’s sweet, Spock.”
“I do not believe he speaks out of a distaste for Vulcan’s as a species, but solely for me.”
“I don’t care why he’s bullying you.” You put your hands on your hips. “I have a zero tolerance policy.”
“He is not one of your students,” he reminded you.
“I don’t care.”
“Try to maintain control over your emotions. I would prefer not to have to explain to the captain why his CMO is in the hospital.”
“That happened once,” you said, going to your desk to busy yourself with sorting your PADDs.
“It happened twice,” he reminded you.
“We were children. And they deserved it.” You could feel him raising his eyebrow and you signed, “I’m an adult now. I have much more restraint.”
“Are there not other people with whom you can spend your time?”
“Okay, I get it. Doctor’s off limit. I won’t ruin your work relationship with my ‘brash use of unregulated emotion’,” you quoted a phrase he had sent your way many times over the years and looked up at him. “I do appreciate the warning.”
-
Okay so you lied. You hadn’t intended it to be a lie. You had every intention of avoiding the doctor. But Joanna hadn’t shown up in class and you didn’t see why she should suffer because of the complicated relationships her father had with his coworkers.
You stood on her doorstep with a stack of her homework like you had every time she had missed school. You told yourself that it was just because she lived so close to you but the truth was that you had a soft spot for her and her aunt.
The door swung open and Joanna’s grinning face greeted you. “Hi, Ms. Grayson!” Her eyes dropped to the homework you were holding and her eyes went wide as it apparently dawned on her that she was supposed to be sick. She began an impressive show of coughing and sneezing.
You had to stifle a laugh as you watched the display. Movement behind the girl caught your attention and you raised your eyes to see her father coming down the hall.
“Alright, kid, the gigs up.” He came up behind Joanna and placed a hand on her shoulder so she looked up at him. “If I had known you’re still such a bad liar, I wouldn’t’ve let you play hooky.”
“The gig was up before it got started, Doctor. I’ve been a teacher on two different planets; I know when someones skipping. There’s special circumstances. I’ll let it slide.”
“Is there something we can help you with?” he asked.
“I was just dropping Joanna’s homework off.” You handed the stack over to her.
“Oh, calculus. Great. Thank you so much,” she said sarcastically and turned to head back into the house.
“Don’t be rude, Jo. I raised you better than this,” Leonard called after her.
“No, you didn’t,” she called back.
“We have company. At least pretend I instilled something in you besides sarcasm and abandonment issues.”
She leaned over the railing of the staircase to look at him. “How? You didn’t teach me anything else.”
“Your aunt did!”
“Fine!” She came down a couple steps and looked at you, before putting on a bright smile and a mocking version of her aunt's accent, “Real kind of ya to bring this down, ma’am. Sure do appreciate it. You wanna come in for some ice tea? Get you outta that heat. It's hotter'n a blister bug in a pepper patch.”
“All right. That’s enough outta you,” Leonard dismissed her.
This time it was you who called after her, “You need to have those centroid problems done by Sunday night if you want me to check them before class and I want to see all your work this time.”
“I’m not doing that.”
“Yes, you are.”
“Fine but I’m going to complain the whole time!”
When she continued up the stairs, Leonard turned back to you, exhausted with his own characteristics being reflected back at him. “Please tell me she’s not like this at school.”
“Just in my class.”
He closed his eyes and groaned. “I am so sorry.”
“Nah. I encourage it. I like her pluck.”
He looked at you like he was making first contact with a new species. Your hair was pulled away from your face today, making your ears and eyebrows more visible. You were very clearly vulcan yet your body held none of the usual rigidness and your voice and face were filled with emotion. He wasn’t quite sure what to make of you.
“You wanna come in? We actually do have ice tea,” he offered.
“That’s very kind, but I’d rather stab my own eye out,” you told him, maintaining your smile. “Enjoy your time with your daughter.”
-
“Bones!” Jim grinned as Leonard materialized on the ship. “We missed you!”
Leonard studied his expression. “There’s a medical emergency, isn’t there?”
“Just a small one.”
With a sigh, he held out a hand. “Can’t leave you alone for three days. Give me the PADD.”
Spock handed him a PADD. “I trust your shorleave was restful.”
“It was.” Leonard started looking over the charts. “Met your sister.”
“She informed me.”
“Lovely woman. Absolutely hates me.”
“Who could hate you?” Jim joked before confusion crossed his face. “Wait. Sister?”
“She is prone to strong emotion.”
“My sister’s basically adopted her and she can’t stand to be around me,” he said, starting towards sickbay.
“Sister?” Jim asked again as he and Spock followed behind.
“Perhaps it would be advisable to simply avoid her.”
“Probably.” He scrolled to another chart. “But I’m not going to.”
“That is illogical.”
“SISTER?”
Thinking about Leonard and Joss letting little Jo pick her very first pet. They told her that she needed to do all the research and convince them that she could take care of it, whatever it was. She did a damn fine job and answered all their questions with facts and figures. Unfortunately, Leonard and Joss forgot to ask two important questions: how big does this thing get and how long does it live?
Little Jo, turning ten, picked out the tiniest tortoise of the bunch. She was excited to bring him home and give him loads of love and attention. Leonard was grateful she chose a long-lived pet, having known the deep loss of his first pet, Cuddles the cat. Joss took a while to warm up to the little guy but loved having someone to eat her melon rinds. Mister Torty didn’t bark or scratch things, and the most he’d done was accidentally bite their fingers when they were careless while feeding. Overall, he was a surprisingly welcome addition that showed them how responsible their baby girl was.
Over the years, over the decades, little Mister Torty became not so little. When he got too big to live in the house, Leonard, Uncle Jim, and Clay fixed up a section of the yard to house him. Aunty Ny helped Jo build a small dictionary that she and Mister Torty used to communicate through colored buttons that say a word when pressed. Uncle Hikaru and Ben helped Jo plant a garden full of Mister Torty’s favorite fruits and veggies. Uncle Scotty engineered a hover device specifically for when Mister Torty gets too ornery to return from their walks.
But the biggest job of all was for Mister Spock, and Jo only asked him after he and her daddy got married. She was scared at first, but she was nearly an adult and knew how much longer her friend would live compared to her. Jo also knew how much longer Spock would live compared to her and her daddy. It wasn’t the most pleasant topic, but Jo did promise her parents that she would care for Mister Torty for the rest of his life, not hers.
The next shore leave after their wedding, when they were visiting her momma’s place, Jo pulled Spock aside for a walk around Mister Torty’s enclosure. “Did you know that Mister Torty will live to be between 150 and 175 yeas old?” she started quietly.
“With your dutiful care, he may very well live beyond that.”
“I... won’t.”
Spock put a hand on Joanna’s shoulder and guided her to the picnic bench. Mister Torty saw this and came bounding as fast as a tortoise could, knowing that was where he was usually spoiled with love and treats. “What is on your mind, Joanna?”
“Will you take care of Mister Torty for me when I can’t anymore?” Jo popped the lid on the fruits and veggie scraps and started feeding the tortoise. “You don’t have to or anythin’, but I don’t have kids, and I’m not sure I want ‘em. I want to make sure he’s taken care of no matter what happens.”
“It would be my greatest honor to care for Mister Tort-ty,” Spock assured, still struggling with the childish name. “Though with your father’s efforts, your future efforts, and the general stubbornness of McCoys, I foresee both of you reaching ages that will rival even tortoises.”
Jo laughed and agreed, and later that evening they made up a special will that assigning Spock as Mister Torty’s primary caretaker if she’s ever unable to care for him. Joss and Clay would take care of him while she went off to medical school and then Starfleet Academy, though. Knowing that Mister Torty’s future was guaranteed, Jo could venture out into adulthood and her career with ease. And when she became a commissioned officer and joined the Hope with her daddy and Spock, they let her bring Mister Torty with them.
(Sorry, I made it sad after this.)
Nearly a century and a half later, Spock found himself on New Vulcan with his tortoise companion. His bondmate had long since passed peacefully, as did Joanna. He did not expect to inherit the lifespan of a Vulcan, especially considering his counterpart’s shorter life. Spock did not want it, but Leonard’s last wish was for Spock to live as long as he could and to look after Joanna. Joanna made the same wish, though it was now Mister Torty he was to look after.
Spock was never more grateful for agreeing to take care of Mister Torty, for he was a companion that loved Leonard and Joanna as he did and enjoyed sharing those memories. Spock smiled at the memory that started it all: Leonard making a foolish bet that Mister Torty did not have a memory as good as a human’s and Joanna begging Spock to perform a mind meld. Leonard lost, of course. But Spock won more than fake credits that day.
Though both had slowed with age, they maintained a daily walking routine around the estate and ate their meals in the tortoise-friendly garden Spock and Leonard had constructed ages ago with the help of their friends. It was a peaceful living for both of them and suited their needs as much as anything could when the loves of their life had returned to the universe. At the end of each night, they would share a meld and tell each other a story. Spock was fond of the routine, it gave him some form of purpose.
And when it was their time to return to the universe, they passed together, watching the red skies fade to blue as the sun set for them one last time.
The Lone Survivor: Part 5
Tumblr media
TOS!Spock x Fem!Reader
Spock saves the reader from an icy starship crash, only to accidentally form a bond with them in the process. They are called to investigate a happening in the morgue, seemingly to face the unseen enemy that caused the crash in the first place.
PART(S) ONE TWO THREE FOUR
WARNINGS: Blood, violence, death, corpses, language, and sexual implications. The body eating gets vivid so if you can’t ride, please don’t.
I’m so so so so sorry this took so long to come out. I’m not good at actions scenes so I did my best! Part 6 will be out soon. If I missed you on the tagged list I’m so sorry!
Part 5: Isn’t is lovely? All alone. My heart made of glass, my mind of stone.
Captain Kirk and Doctor McCoy tried to shield you from the carnage, but you broke through their human shield to see Commander Craft surveying the morgue with a grim expression.
Only a portion of the crew were brought aboard-the rest were still being recovered by multiple teams below. Along with Craft came other starships to help with the recovery. The tundra below was harsh and made recovery an even more difficult process. Bodies that were still intact were brought aboard the Enterprise to be identified. The others well were left in makeshift morgues below waiting to be put together with their other pieces.
What you hadn’t known before yesterday was that some of your crew had been devoured.
More had been devoured now. Bodies were littered about the morgue, torn from their bags. Some were only half eaten at the limbs and thighs. Heads and torsos were still left in contact where it was less meat and more viscera and soupy organs. The poor morgue workers were left alone.
“Blunt force trauma,” McCoy noted into his recorder. “Why didn’t it eat them?”
“It appears...it only ate the Calvary crew. The ones that had been on ice,” Kirk murmured, fist pressing into his teeth.
“It likes its food served cold,” you said, absent mindedly.
“Fascinating,” Spock said.
You glanced over the logs last input by the crewman, “He listed finding my father. Right here! Doctor L/N. My father’s dead. It must have kept his form.”
“Which must be why the creature could not be detected on our scanners. It perfectly mimicked the dead,” Spock said, bouncing ideas off of you, “It may be possible to feign the absence of a pulse or temperature-or perhaps it can alter its physical state enough to where it appears to be a lack of both.”
“Why did it take so long to recognize Doctor L/N, then? The man’s been dead for years.”
“The bodies were beamed up in droves, Jim,” Bones answered, “Then picked through. After were found the Calvary’s lone survivor we stopped bringing up one by one.”
“How...” Commander Craft said slowly, through ground teeth, “Could you be the only one?”
“I don’t know,” you answered.
“Four hundred men dead and you...still alive having wrecked in an escape pod,” the commander snarled, seemingly refusing to even look at you. He still surveyed the frozen dead.
“What?” you asked in disbelief, “I was in an escape pod?”
“Don’t play cute with me,” he jerked to look at you finally, eyes blazing, “You launched the pod right before the ship went down. My crew scouted out the area you were recovered from. Only a single pod launched with only you in it. Or did your husband not tell you that’s where he found you?”
“Spock, is this true?” Kirk asked.
“It seems I may have accidentally omitted such a finding...as I was not aware of it.”
“You’re a Vulcan-you don’t miss things,” Craft spat.
“One forgets my human half-although I have never found myself so personal with you, Commander, to share such a fact.”
Craft looked to you and back to Spock and then back to you again.
“You were both with one another the whole evening?” Commander Craft asked.
“I had two guards posted out side their quarters,” Kirk said, his temper flaring, “I doubt she’s in cahoots with the damn thing. Spock looked into her mind and it seems she’s nothing but a scapegoat for a monster to get its next meal! Now you can stop targeting my officers and start cooperating.”
You reached for Kirk’s arm desperately, “Captain, I didn’t put myself in that pod. Captain, I didn’t do this-you’ve got to believe me still.”
“It doesn’t matter what I believe. What see is your crew in bits and pieces down here and that thing is going to do the same to my men,” Kirk said, patience wheedling thin. “Bridge, this is the captain. Issue a red alert. Lockdown all decks.”
“But captain,” a woman’s voice replied, “You just issued a command stating that the ship take a landing and to disregard any other orders.”
“Lieutenant, where was I when I gave such orders?”
“On deck three.”
x
The red alert beacon seemed like it would never fade into the background but it was eventually drowned out by the sound of blood rushing in your ears. Kirk had ordered you all to stay together after a trip to the armory and that you were all going to the third deck, whether the commander liked it or not.
The assent to the third deck was painful as the commander and Kirk had it out with one another. The lift felt extremely cramped, but the tension in the air made it worse.
Splitting up the party had perhaps been briefly suggested by your husband to cover more ground, to which the commander argued, “Don’t let Spock take her anywhere. I don’t trust those two!”
“No ones going anywhere unless it’s with me,” Kirk retorted, “Set your phasers to stun. We don’t know who the real crewmen will be apart from this thing. We don’t want to kill anyone else.”
“Then how to do we know you’re not the imposter then? How do we know the real you isn’t already on the third deck or even the bridge by now?” the commander asked, nearly spitting.
“I wouldn’t have asked to land. I’m getting really tired of you,” Kirk said.
The doors to the lift finally opened, showing and eerily empty third deck washed in the red light.
“Daddy?”
A small voice, a woman’s voice in fact so far away you could barely hear it.
The doctor stepped passed you eyes bugging out of his skull, “Didja hear that?” He whirled back around to you, “Did ya’ll hear that?”
“Indeed, doctor,” Spock replied, “It seemed to be coming from that corridor.”
“Daddy!” came the woman’s voice again, now sobbing and strangled.
“Joanna?” the doctor asked, immediately breaking away with full stride.
You seized him around the waist, trying to prevent him from going, “Wait-doctor-!”
“Simon!” came a wavering moan from the adjacent hall.
Commander Craft was less vocal than Bones and bolted immediately with a tailing Kirk who was then seized up by Spock, “Captain, don’t-”
“Daddy!” Joanna’s wail was blood curdling and McCoy broke free from your hold like a frenzied horse. You bolted after him immediately.
“T’hy’la!” Spock began to which in the confusion Kirk said, “Go after them-I’ll get Craft!”
x
Could it possible the creature could multiply? You hadn’t seen it for yourself, but fear blazoned in your body and drove your legs to pump themselves as far as they could go. You were younger than Bones, but your weak leg gave out. Spock was faster than you anticipated and with thundering footfalls you felt him upon you.
He swept you up quickly, “That was foolish.”
“It’ll kill him, Spock!”
“I do not think it can be many places at once or it would have acted upon the crew sooner.”
“It’s just throwing its voice?”
“Possibly.”
He was moving at a light sprint, cradling you up like a baby.
“If it likes its food cold it will go for the bridge. It’ll wreck the ship to the snow below,” you breathed, clutching onto Spock’s uniform.
“I suspect the same thing-” his running faltered a bit, “-it will pursue the captain in attempt to control the ship.”
“Fuck.”
x
“Jim!”
“Sam?”
Long ago had Kirk lost sight of Craft, now lurking beyond every corner. It seemed the third deck was empty and he found out quickly why it was so quiet, save the bells. He came upon the mangled bodies of his crew, not eaten, but twisted like rag dolls in their heaps.
Now it was mimicking his brother. The bastard of a thing-whatever it was.
“Jim, help!”
“I’m coming, Sam!” Kirk called, moving carefully down the hall, phaser in hand. It was leading to him to his own cabin. He knew his brother was dead, but it was almost like he couldn’t stop himself. It was a painful desperation and it burned like fire in his chest.
He opened the door and stepped inside. His room was the same as it had always been. Bed in one area, dress and mirror in the other. His antique weapon collection of old era muskets, sabers, and spears freckled his walls but were hard to be seen as the lights were oddly set dim.
“Captain!” a distressed voice cried from the corner. A female voice.
“Y/N?” Kirk asked, moving closer, “Kitty, is that you?”
The person moved from the corner and into the light and indeed to the captain it appeared to be you. But how? Kirk questioned.
Your face was beaten and your body was bloodied. Your dress which once was white was almost completely dyed scarlet and it was ripped all the way down, revealing your right shoulder and breasts.
Kirk snatched the blanket off the bed and brought it to cover you. “How did you get here so fast? Did it do this to you?”
“It ran as soon as it heard you. It was a man. He looked just like you. I thought it was you,” you cried.
He skimmed the tears off your face with his thumb, “There, there. I’m here now.”
“You’ve got to help me. Spock tricked me, Jim,” you said, moving closer. “I need you.”
x
The third deck was so confusing you (the real you) thought you and Spock would get lost but you honed in on the doctor’s desperate cries of “Joanna!” like breadcrumbs.
You both came to a dead end to see the doctor there, bumbling at the wall, clearly confused.
“Doctor!” you cried in relief.
“I heard Jo one second and the next-I’m at a loss!” he attempted to explain, scratching the back of his head.
The doctor stared at the bare wall as if his daughter was apart of its making. She was there in his ears and the next she wasn’t.
“She was never there,” you sighed, still cradled in Spock’s clutch.
“It was a trick, Doctor,” Spock concurred.
“Lemme down,” you reached for Bones almost desperately.
You felt like you had to touch him to truly know he was alright. His face looked alright as well as the rest of his body, but his eyes were still large with bewilderment and grief. Joanna had not been there, but she had sounded so real and seemed to be in so much pain as the ghost of your own father had been.
“Doctor, are you well enough to care for my wife? It seems she has reinjured her leg to some extent,” Spock inquired, allowing you to bear weight on your good limb.
Bones reached for you immediately and then asked Spock, “Where the hell are you going?”
“I must relocate the captain and Commander Craft for their safety,” Spock explained, already having turned promptly to leave.
He broke out into another sprint, which looked faster than it had while you were being carried. Vulcans were faster, stronger than humans naturally, it seemed.
Bones fussed over you and you shushed him, “It’s just a limp-I’m fine-no, we are not going to sickbay!”
“Where do you suggest we go then? We might as well be sitting ducks.”
“We’re going to catch up with, Spock,” you said in a definite tone.
“In your condition and mine? it’ll take this old man two weeks to get you there,” he said, shaking his head.
“Hey,” you grinned, “It’s not the first time you’ve walked a pretty girl down the aisle.”
Bones face heated up with a large grin.
x
The door shifted open and Spock was greeted with the sight of his nude wife fondling his captain. Except you were had been left in Bones’ care behind him. Something white hot and broiling ignited in his very being.
You could feel it from down the hall.
He’s mad-why is he so mad? you questioned internally, limping as fast as you could.
Kirk fired his phaser immediately into the creature’s belly, after letting it draw itself close. The mirror version of you somehow enclosed its hand around the firing phaser, crushing it completely.
Kirk shook his hand free, screaming. The creature seized Kirk by the shoulders and flung him effortlessly into the wall. He hit part of his antique weapon collection, spears and swords clattering to the ground with him.
“Captain-!”
“I’m alright.”
The imposter whirled around and grinned like a Cheshire, “Well the infamous Mister Spock! I can read the crew’s thoughts y’know. Plenty of gals seem to like you. But you only like this one, don’t you?”
The imposter ran her hand down her naked form, taunting him.
“Too bad your captain got the upper hand on your wife first. Didn’t even stop himself when given the opportunity.”
“That’s a lie, Spock,” Kirk choked.
Spock shot at the creature, phaser still set the stun. The creature was knocked back only a little, seemingly unfazed. Spock shot multiple times only with the same result.
“I like it rough,” the creature laughed, “Keep on.”
“Why did you place Lieutenant Y/L/N in the escape pod when you could have devoured her?” Spock inquired.
“I seek the weakest link of all that visit my land. I seek their fears, their sorrows and hers was most adequate for my use,” it said, “The other ships that follow after every crash always tend to stay longer when there’s someone to blame. Everyone likes someone to blame.”
“How many other starships have you sabotaged?” Kirk asked, moving slowly about the weapons on the floor.
“Enough to feed me my due.”
Kirk launched one of the old spears at the imposter and it grazed its belly, spurting purple blood.
“Run, Captain!” Spock ordered.
The creature seized the spear and thrust it a Kirk as he ran to the door. Spock was faster and quickly moved in front of Kirk, catching the spear deafly with one hand. The blade was merely inches from his nose. The phaser clattered to the ground.
“Fascinating,” the creature said mockingly and changed it form from you to Spock himself.
x
Eventually you and Bones were able follow the trail of downed crewman to the captain’s cabin. Upon opening the door you were gifted with the sight of two of your husbands wrestling with one other over some ancient spear.
Where the hell did that thing come from?
Long forgone on the floor was Spock’s phaser and you knelt to grab it.
“Jim!” Bones exclaimed.
Kirk was once again a heap on the floor, already having been assaulted twice by the imposter and saved by Spock. He was bleeding from his right flank.
Bones quickly moved to him, dragging you long with him.
“We’ve got--got to kill it--” Kirk stuttered, staggering upward. You caught him under the arm, supporting him. “The phaser doesn’t seem to work on stun. You have to set it to kill.”
Bones caught the other, “But how can we? Which one is it?”
You shakenly pointed the phaser even though it seemed it had no effect.
“Alright you two!” Kirk yelled, ‘Stop or we’ll be forced to shoot the both of you!”
The wrestling came to a still and the spear was tossed aside, rolling to your feet.
They were identical, completely. Fuck.
“T’hy’la, it is I,” said the one on the left.
“No, that is incorrect,” said the one on the left.
Down to the nose, the hair, the faint hue of green in their cheeks and lips. The familiar warmth pulled you at the back of your mind.
“Kitty, what are you doing?” Kirk began.
You moved forward, with two fingers extended, “Husband, attend.”
The one of the left immediately came forward and you felt the warmth surge closer at is it, enveloping your mind as your fingers touched.
“Fools!”
The one of the right’s entire mouth opened up as if it was a venous fly trap, launching itself at you and Spock. You fired the phaser, blasting a hole on its left side but it still came.
Kirk was faster on the draw, and launched the spear into the creature’s mouth, splattering purple liquid everywhere. Its lifeless body hit the ground with a wet thud.
The spear had ripped through its body and pierced itself into the wall behind it.
“Good shot, captain,” Spock said. “And you as well, wife.”
“Second time’s the charm,” Kirk said, holding his injured side.
You let out a dry sob, mixed in with a laugh. Bones patted your shoulder, letting out a large sigh.
!!!! I! Thank you for this lovely ask!! I also have a lot of love for TOS, it was the first Trek I watched and it's always going to have a special place in my heart!!
If you really want to know everything, we're going to be here for a while, so this is going under a cut for length. I should never have been enabled like this. None of them have any fics yet and I can't really draw all that well, so there's no art either, but I'm always happy to ramble about them and call it lore, so here we go!
Ok, as I'm writing down the lore for my ship with Spock, it's becoming a lot longer than I thought it would be - as in it's over 1000 words and we *just* got to Starfleet Academy. I'm going to trim it down a bit to try and get a shorter version and I'll probably turn the rest into a fic. Even with the cuts, though, this is really long. You've been warned.
Once I finish my WIPs with Nerys, I have some plans for some TOS fics, so hopefully my lovely friends will get their fair share of fics soon! I can tag you in any TOS fics I write if you'd like, but of course there's no pressure!
Bones:
I selfship with Bones in the way I do to cope with some specific issues, so lore-wise it's a bit different than my other ships. I don't really have an s/i, it's just me here in our world. He's off on the Enterprise doing all those fun space things, but I can call him whenever I like and he always tries to get back to me as soon as possible if he misses the call at the time. He doesn't miss them often, though - he and I set up a system so I can mark calls as high, mid, or low priority and he'll interrupt almost anything to take a high priority call. I hardly ever use it, but it's nice to know I can reach him if I really need to. And he's amazing to talk to! He's really supportive and always willing to listen to me, and he gives the best hugs :)
I'm actually really excited because he's due back on Earth soon, and he promised to come visit! He can't visit often so every time he does he goes out of his way to make our time together special. It's one of the little ways he shows he really cares about me.
This is a fairly new ship for me, so I still haven't figured out what I'm going to do about Joanna. I'm unlikely to add her as a familial f/o, but we might end up as friends or I might just ignore her entirely. It's my canon now :)
Uhura:
So! I am a massive language nerd. I've been teaching myself both Vulcan and Klingon in addition to studying Latin, Japanese, and Spanish in school at various points. (Yes, Swahili is next on my list. Yes, this is because of Uhura.)
Nyota and I met at Starfleet Academy (more details on how I got there in Spock's lore as both ships use the same s/i) during one of our xenolingustics classes. She seemed super cool, but she had a friend group already, so I ended up being too scared to approach her. I haven't always been the best student, so I got into the habit of taking any extra credit opportunities that came my way. Our xenolinguistics teacher offered extra credit if we went to a presentation being hosted by the xenolingustics club, and I figured I had nothing to lose, so I showed up. Nyota saw me there, recognized me from class, and encouraged me to join the club. She seemed nice and I was free, so I said I'd try it out. I came to a few meetings and we ended up becoming friends!
I was never close with her friend group (we didn't have a lot in common and i just didn't fit their vibe) but she worked hard to make sure we still had time to hang out, and I never felt like she liked me any more or any less than the rest of her friends. How she balanced it all, I don't know. I still think she might be superhuman.
She was a year ahead of me and we ended up falling out of contact a little bit when she graduated. Between her (and later my) assignments, there was just never enough time, and as some of you may know (Sorry!!) my ability to stay in touch with people online is atrocious. We didn't stop talking entirely or stop being friends, but it wasn't until we were both assigned to the Enterprise that we were able to reconnect, and we're even better friends now than we were back then. I didn't exactly figure out who I was, but I grew more comfortable with the process of growing as a person and not having all the answers, and as a result I ended up way more confident in myself and with a lot less self loathing. Turns out, that makes you a lot more fun to be around! I still have a lot of work to do in that area, but I'm a lot better than I was back at the academy.
She and I hang out a lot on the Enterprise, sometimes with Spock or Nurse Chapel and sometimes just the two of us. We sing together, play games, talk in half a dozen languages (just because I don't know them yet doesn't mean my s/i can't!) and just do all those normal fun friend things. Sometimes we even teach or help each other learn new languages (I'm learning a new dialect of Klingon and she's learning Latin). One thing I've always really appreciated about her is the way she handles spontaneity with me - when she wants to hang out or change plans on short notice, she always gives me a really good sense of what she's suggesting we do and gives me the chance to raise any concerns or questions about it before we have to make a decision.
Interesting quirk of our friendship: I can usually be flexible about what we do but really need to know in advance who is going to be there, and she can usually be flexible about who's going to be there as long as she has a good sense of what we're going to do. It took us a little while to figure that out and start warning each other appropriately, but once we did things got a lot better!
It's really a crime that the writers didn't give us more Uhura-centric episodes because there are just so many things I want to know about her! This is also a new-ish ship for me, so the lore isn't quite as finalized as I'd like. If you see me changing things about our ship later, that's why!
Spock:
Ok, important warnings time. My selfship with Spock fills a very particular emotional role for me that causes me to be unusually protective of him and our relationship. I'm aware that this isn't exactly emotionally healthy, and that's something I'm actively working on. Part of the benefit of my ship with him is that he can fill this role rather than me putting it on a real person, which, yeah, wouldn't be great. A lot of this has to do with him putting me first.
To be clear, I view my ship with him as happening in one of many similar but distinct universes (there's a TNG ep I'm thinking of here) that's separate from both canon and other people's ships with him. That's why I say that our s/is probably can't be friends (unless we have some universe crossover stuff going on). I would never want to get in the way of another person's ship with him! And this is the division of things that makes it easiest for me to wholeheartedly support others' ships with him, which is something I very much want to be able to do. (What I'm trying to communicate, badly, is that I want to be clear that I don't view the way he thinks about me as being true anywhere outside of my ship with him.)
I do refer to him as my best friend, the platonic other half of my soul, and other similarly intense terms, which he reciprocates. We also have a minor telepathic bond (I have Headcanons about Vulcan telepathy and no one can stop me from using them). Our relationship really is strictly platonic, but if that's going to make you uncomfortable, the time to stop reading is now! I'm also always happy to work out more detailed tags if needed.
Now! On to the actual ship stuff. I've changed around the lore a little bit recently to be a little truer to the way I've been shipping with him for the past 6-7 years, so hopefully this is the final(ish) lore. There are several moments where if canon says otherwise I simply do not see it. I am looking away. My canon now :)
It's late, later than I should have been out, but I'm too young to know better and too excited to care. My cousins are playing in the sand out ahead of me, but I've had enough of the noise and the people for right now, so I'm doing what I do best: wandering off when I shouldn't. The beach is busy but the nearby hills are quiet, so I start to climb. Even at that age, I hate sand, and the stone staircase is a welcome relief.
I was so focused on the climb to see him and by the time I reach the top, I'm too exhausted to do anything but flop on the ground. As soon as I do that my eyes turn skyward and then I'm too focused on the stars to do much of anything else. Even with the lights around, it's a dazzling display. Most call it science, but to my untrained eyes there's a much simpler word: magic.
Between the exhaustion and the stars, it takes me several minutes to realize I'm not alone. A Vulcan boy I don't recognize is sitting on a bench a few feet away from me, staring at something in his lap and staying very still. I watch him for a while and when he still hasn't moved, I walk closer. He twitches - clearly, he knows I'm here - but keeps his eyes fixed firmly on his PADD. If I were older, I would have gone down the hill and this would have been the end of it.
But I wasn't older. I was young, and dumb, and perhaps most dangerously of all, I was curious. I didn't go down the hill. Instead, I walked up, pulled myself up to sit on the far end of the bench, and asked the question that would end up shaping the rest of our lives:
"Have you ever looked up?"
And he did.
I rambled about the stars and asked about his logic homework, and he watched the stars and patiently answered my questions. By the time we parted ways, I was smiling with his contact information tucked safely into a pocket and he watched my go with the corners of his lips pulled up into that classic Vulcan not-quite-smile.
My mom recognized his name and description as the son of Amanda Grayson, a friend of a friend, and she let me use her PADD to keep in touch with Spock until I was old enough for my own. He turned out to be a few years older than me and a lot of fun to be around with a subtle sense of humor that never failed to make me laugh. We'd hang out in person whenever I went to Vulcan or he came to Earth and we talked almost every day online when we were apart. He was (and is) my best friend, and we saw each other through the highs and lows of growing up. Even when his bullies got really bad and when my school social life went down the drain, we always had each other, and somehow that was enough.
Because of something something Vulcan brain development, the eligible age to apply to Starfleet is 20 rather than 16. (ooc this is my headcanon and I need it for our backstory to work, so shh.) I was certain he would apply for Starfleet Academy the moment he was eligible, and I think his decision to wait for a year shocked everyone. I asked him about it, wondering if there was something wrong. We'd talked for ages about how much he wanted to escape Vulcan, so why wasn't he now that he finally had the chance?
His response? "Not all humans treat me as you do. The bullying is unlikely to change, only its source. If I am to be bullied no matter my path, I will choose the one in which we are together."
I have never felt more honored in my life.
We applied for Starfleet together the next year. His father was devastated displeased that he did not choose the Vulcan Science Academy, my parents were upset that I was moving out so young, and we rolled up to Starfleet Academy as the resident pair of family disappointments. Good times.
The academy was a blast, though. We got to see each other! In person! Every day! I was there to stand up to the people who teased him, he was there to encourage me to make good choices, and we both were there to remind each other that sleep is a necessary biological function not to be ignored. We were both studying science, but he focused on the astrophysics side and I focused more on the biology side, so we didn't share too many classes, but we'd hang out all the time in between classes and we tried to take the same electives when we could. Having similar interests helped a lot on that front.
I was a weird child that had by now grown into a weird teenager, so I didn't have a ton of friends at first. Even when it started directly affecting his social life, Spock was never embarrassed to be seen with me, and though he claims that he would be treated the same without me... I doubt it. Still, though, it helped a lot to have him there, and he's never held it against me.
I did convince him to do a show with me once. He tries to hold that one against me but he had fun and we both know it. Besides, it's my job to drag him into illogical things sometimes :)
We graduated together but like so many close friends are, we were posted to different ships. It was a weird time for us. I was doing great, honestly. I was medicated for my chronic illness (finally!), in therapy (finally!), and I loved my ship and fellow officers. My job was interesting and engaging and I was having a blast. Spock, on the other hand, started to struggle a little bit. Though he always treated me like an equal, I think there was a part of his mind that always thought he was a little bit better than me, and seeing me succeed seemingly effortlessly where he was struggling was hard for him. We got through it, though, and he got some better accommodations (and later a transfer to a ship that fit him better) which made everything a lot better. I even ended up taking some engineering classes and wound up getting a degree in engineering too, just for fun.
Before we knew it, he was the first and science officer of the Enterprise and I was a lieutenant commander working for him. (I say working for him, but really it's a lot more like working alongside him. Most people in the science department assume that if you tell something to one of us and don't specifically say not to tell the other, we will, so you can basically report things to either of us.) I do some work for Scotty too, and Kirk likes to joke that I'm an honorary member of the bridge crew at this point. It was a funny joke right up until I started getting invited to briefings, but hey, who am I to complain?
Serving together is a lot of fun. I'm one of the only people on board who doesn't constantly pressure him to show his emotions, with the result that he is a lot more emotional with me. He knows that I don't view his moments of emotion as a reflection of how Vulcan he is or isn't, so he has nothing to gain by hiding them. Mostly, I don't comment on them, which is his preference.
While we're both happy to offer each other emotional support when needed, most of the time we end up just sitting with each other and letting them process it on their own. Between my emotional regulation issues and his I Am A Vulcan mentality, it's been a great way for us to show each other the support we crave without worrying about finding the perfect words.
Speaking of words, I'm one of very few people on the ship who speaks Vulcan. I actually learned it years ago because of him so we've been speaking it to each other for a while, and we take the Vulcan tendency to drop words to a truly ridiculous extent. Uhura tends to joke that we created our own language somewhere along the line, but it's a fun way to annoy Bones when he really gets on our nerves. He can't even complain about it because as it turns out having the ability to converse in a way no one else understands is very, very useful when a mission goes south. You can't really complain about something that's saved your life, now can you?
The telepathic bond (again, very minor and strictly platonic) came about when he had to meld with me on one such mission gone wrong. It wasn't planned, though we'd talked about it in the past and neither of us was upset by it. Bones tried to joke that our minds were so compatible that we were probably going to start dating now and immediately found himself on the receiving end of two death glares. Credit to him, he never made that joke again. We view each other like family anyway, so yeah. No.
But I like the bond we have! It's nice to know when he's uncomfortable but not saying anything and it's easier for me to tell when he's protesting for effect and really does want to go along with my bizarre illogical scheme and when he'd rather not. As someone with no real sense of social cues or sarcasm, it's a lifesaver. Besides, he's been a lot more comfortable with causal touch between us since it formed, which is great for me.
We also play a lot of D&D together. It's something I got him into but which he took to like a fish to water, and the lengths we go to to avoid scheduling conflicts for our weekly game night are probably a bit excessive, shall we say, but it helps that all the friends we'd normally have conflicts with end up getting invited too. He very rarely DMs, but when he does, you better hope someone in your party has a decent intelligence stat because his puzzles are amazing. Seriously, I don't think you've really played a puzzle based game of D&D until you've played one of his. Works of art, I tell you.
I could go on about him for hours, but I'll wrap it up here for time and length's sake. If you have any more specific questions, I think I've already effectively demonstrated that I'm incapable of shutting up about him!
4. “I know you didn’t ask for this.” Established Spones
So this is actually McSpuhura, but the fic itself is just Spock and McCoy dealing with the situation while Uhura is away. But I hope you enjoy it nonetheless!
A Blended Family - Joanna is kicked out and finds her father in San Francisco...a surprise to both McCoy, his husband, and his wife. But it turned out to be a pleasant surprise in the end.
READ @ AO3 | BUY ME A COFFEE?
Spock looked around at the luggage in the living room, the girl sitting on the sofa, and the man he had chosen to love so long as Leonard was alive. “Your daughter, I presume?”
McCoy sighed. “Yeah. She embarrassed her mother’s new husband one too many times and she was sent to me. Us.” He went over to his husband and led him to a chair. “I know you didn’t ask for this. But Bev basically threw Joanna out and she found me and...I can’t send her back, not with what she’s told me.”
“Naturally,” Spock said, and McCoy relaxed. He turned to his stepdaughter and held out his hand. “I am Spock.”
“My dad’s new husband,” Joanna said, and she grinned. “You’re not a typical Vulcan, are you?” Spock gave her a quizzical look. “Handshakes are like kisses. You usually greet people like this.” She did the Vulcan salute and a small smile crossed Spock’s face.
“You are very knowledgeable about Vulcan ways,” Spock said, returning her salute with one of his own. “But I am half-human, half-Vulcan.”
“I’d love to learn Vulcan someday,” she said. “I had a teacher who was a Vulcan. She was such a great math teacher.”
“Our wife could teach you,” McCoy said.
“You have a husband and a wife?” Joanna asked, surprised.
“Yeah, well, the last time Spock had pon farr, he didn’t just want Nyota,” McCoy said with a cough to cover his embarrassment. “We’ve been a thruple ever since. I just never mentioned it to your ma because I didn’t want her to use it against me with us talking to each other finally.”
“No, that’s fine,” Joanna said. “Is she here?”
“Nyota is on a diplomatic mission with her father,” Spock said. “She is providing translation services for a delicate situation.”
“She’s a xenolinguist?” Joana asked, her surprised look melting into a wide grin. “I love xenolinguistics.”
“Oh, I think you’re going to fit into this household just fine, kid,” McCoy said as he relaxed even more, moving to the sofa and leaning over to kiss the top of her head. “I’ll show you where your room is in a minute. I need to call Nyota and tell her so she’s not shocked when she comes home next week.”
“I can do that,” Spock said. “You should acquaint yourself with Joanna more. I will make hot cocoa.”
“He likes to torture himself by making Nyota and I cocoa while he has tea,” McCoy told his daughter with a grin. “It gets him drunk. But he makes a damn good one, all things considered.” Joanna stood up and she and McCoy went to get her bags to take to the guest bedroom. Joanna’s bedroom now, Spock thought to himself. Twenty minutes later, McCoy came out alone and wrapped his arms around him from behind, pressing a kiss into his hair. “You’re not mad?”
“Nyota and I love all you and yours. We knew of Joanna, and I think with the deterioration of the relationship between her and her mother, from what you told us, we knew this day might come. It just came sooner than I had expected it would. But we will love her as much as we love you.”
“I appreciate it,” McCoy said. “Did you get a hold of Nyota?”
“She is already planning shopping trips to decorate,” Spock said as he turned in his husband’s arms and wrapped his own around McCoy’s waist, a smile on his face. “I know the two of you may be able to procreate without the help she and I would need, so this will give her practice in parenting as a stepmother.”
“Do you want more kids?” McCoy asked.
“I would like a biological child for both of us,” Spock said. “I know Nyota wants a child or two as well. A...blended family?” McCoy nodded. “I think we could all parent a blended family well.”
“I think we could too. And Joanna might like some brothers and sisters.” McCoy leaned in and kissed Spock on the lips softly. “Let’s see if we can start when Nyota comes back. We can find out what the two of you would need to do to have kids while we wait.”
Spock had a satisfied smile on his face. “Have I mentioned I am enamored with you yet today, Leonard?”
“Not yet.”
“I do love you. Very much.” He moved so he was standing by McCoy’s side, resting his head on his shoulder. “I suppose I should start making the cocoa.”
“I kind of want you to stay right here just a little longer,” McCoy said as he wrapped an arm around Spock’s waist.
“I can do that.”
