favorite thing about them: where do i even fucking start. her skill, and strength. her wit, she's so goddamn funny. her resolve. her bravery. the quiet ferocious intensity with which she loves and cares about people. as tragic and troubling and fucked up as it is in canon, i find her perennial tendency towards pair-bonded dysfunctional codependency to be. ALARMINGLY relatable. i love her flat affect. i love her observational skills- she's clever, and perceptive. i may or may not have an enormous crush on her. i love her loyalty and devotion. i love (read: hate) her tendency to deflect any and all important personal questions. i love that she doesn't let go. i love her love for spreadsheets and sharp knives and sensible shoes and sketching. i love her impeccable bedside manner. i love her and her letters and her cassette tapes and her fuckass bob and her smile that makes the earth want to marry her and i love her slate-clay eyes and her laugh. i love that she fought like her heart had already exploded.

least favorite thing about them: i mean, with camilla this question is really more of a "most concerning things about them," isn't it? her codependency, her lack of individuation and independence, her refusal to develop her own identity and exist as her own person. which, like, from one autistic bitch to another, girl i Get It. if i could get away with making myself a satellite accessory to another person instead of having to figure out how to be a person myself, if my society had groomed me to do exactly that from birth, yeah, i would probably do the same thing. being a person is fucking exhausting. but it's also so, so worth it, and it breaks my fucking heart that cam never had the chance, and that the people in her life by and large never encouraged her to really try. we do see pal pushing her on it a little here and there from time to time, and i appreciate that, but it was clearly never enough to stick, y'know? i hate how self sacrificing and selfless she is, i wish fandom at large would talk more about her depression, i want to give her wellbutrin and a hug and therapy.

favorite line: too many to choose. life is too short and love is too long. i don't let go, it's my one thing. sure, it's a nice handkerchief. i think there's another teaspoon full of blood in here somewhere. camilla hect fought like a grease fire. the cohort has taken the rest of him away and i don't know where they've put him.

8. What's one of the dumbest headcanons you have for Snape?

I don't know if it's dumb, per se, but I like to think he and McGonagall get together regularly to drink tea, play chess, and talk shit.

15. If he'd lived, how do you think he would have gone on with his life?

He would probably stop teaching if he was no longer beholden to Dumbledore and responsible for protecting Harry. I think he would probably want to go into a career that uses his skills and helps people, given all his guilt and trauma. Probably something in St. Mungo's, but maybe more in the area of developing cures rather than administering them. Something that doesn't involve having to deal with patients (can you imagine his bedside manner? nonexistent) and doesn't involve having to answer to any boss. And probably comes with an assistant or someone who can deal with all the administrative crap he would hate. He might even teach, given that anyone who would be his student there would have had to have aced their exams and be reasonably intelligent.

Steve does but it doesn’t go quite to plan. It’s the last night before the Day of Unity (potentially the end of the world as they know it) and as they’re both members of the resistance group trying to stop it, there’s a very real risk that one or both of them could die. Murph had made him promise to wait until after everything was over before they sat down to talk about the feelings they’d been dancing around for weeks, because it was very clear to both of them by then that there was something between them but Murph couldn’t handle the distraction (or potential worse heartbreak if they lose Steve after that). Steve is terrified by the prospect of never getting to tell Murph his feelings so it all comes out in one big mess and he kisses them in the heat of the moment but they push him away, genuinely upset with him, and he thinks he’s ruined his chances for good

😚 - When one gets sick, what does the other do?

Murph is extremely professional. Their mother was a healer and they have a good knowledge of medicine and healing magic so they go full nurse mode with all the potions and herbal remedies and spells and just an overall very loving and reassuring bedside manner. Steve is less well-trained and is basically just a Golden Retriever bringing in random items and asking “will this help?” He means well, but sometimes forgets that a major component of getting better is having lots of rest and Murph can get a bit frustrated by his constant hovering and fretting

I’d say it’s a pretty even match. Steve is a little more verbally affectionate, with pet names and compliments, but Murph is a little more physically affectionate and more likely to initiate hand holding/cuddling etc. They’re both soppy sentimental bastards and they’re sickening to look at

5. Describe their cozy night in.

io is not eorzea's top chef, but she does make a few dishes really well and enjoys making them for estinien, having him in the kitchen with her and chatting as she cooks. or one of them will bring in dinner from somewhere in Radz. they soak up each other's company over dinner. then io will either do some reading or play music while estinien spends time on gear maintenance if it's needed, for both of them. meditative activities for both of them! if they feel up for it, they might take a walk as the city's quieting down.

but they get very snuggly for bedtime; io falls asleep first most of the time, and if they're not already in bed, estinien has to move her there lmao. she's very bad about falling asleep if she gets comfy T^T

8. What happens if one of them gets sick?

io will push herself until she's made to rest, but once she's down she gives up. this is good news for estinien because he doesn't want to argue and he's not particularly soft in bedside manner. he makes her take medicine at the right time and keeps the fluids ready to go on the bedside table. he gives her a lot of space and sleeps somewhere else so he doesn't disturb her.

estinien is restless as hell. he would be so bored and so grouchy. io makes him soup of course, and anything else he asks for, not that he'd ask for much. during the day, she'd leave him a favorite book or two, and he'd willingly check them out. she's not sleeping anywhere else though. she's climbing right into bed with his germ-infested ass.

they. well. they communicate!! just not so much with words. jude and joseph are great examples of People Who Cant Speak Properly To Save Their Life. jude is too quiet, bordering on mute at times, and she's not vocally expressive about her emotions at all. it's a defense mechanism and not one she's game on changing. and we all know what joseph's like (annoying asshole). but they've also learn to adapt to each other and how they can talk to each other without actually talking. it's all in body language and touches between the two; a sentence in the brush of fingers.

so. no, they're not exactly open persay, but they can't hide from one another. byproduct of being locked in a bunker for 7 years with your worst enemy who you start fucking 3 months in.

they both have terrible bedside manner but in different ways. judes very forceful; there's no saying no, and there's no easing into things. she'll fix josephs wounds or help him drink soup but he will be hissing in pain or almost choking on the broth. and she'll tell him to deal, and he'll have to (and also be like. kinda lowkey turned on bc for someone who wants everyone to bend to his will, being treated like shit while being pampered is kind of fun --). joseph on the other hand is forceful with a gentleness, but his methods are... questionable. men who drug jude to get that bitch to go to sleep you need rest you fucking idiot. men who drug jude to please stop yelling at me you have a fever and that wound is infected. stop throwing things at me im going to clean the fucking thing. thats it you're going in the drug-induced sleep.

despite their height difference they're roughly around the same size and jude dresses pretty neutral, so yeah theres often time josephs ass is a little more boisterous looking and it's because he accidentally put on judes jeans and did not notice. jude wears the button ups he discards. when she's disassociating he'll slip his rosaries around her wrist so she's grounded. yes she has punched him with them before.

20. How do they comfort each other when one of them is upset? Is this method of comfort effective?

as stated, their bedside manner is piss-poor, and that goes for the emotional side too, especially when they purposefully try to hurt each other, with joseph not letting jude forget the guilt of Not Listening To Him and all the blood she has on her hands because of it, and jude never letting joseph live down the whole "you lost your entire family by your own hand". their grief is strong and tied together and they yknow, hate each other for it.

that being said though they do comfort each other by sitting there, silent but there. they don't talk about feelings and the one comforting will usually also be doing something else (read a book or something), but they will physically be there with the other as the other has their little moment. it's not as effective as it could be (people who need to talk about their feelings desperately), but it's the only thing that has worked for them. work through it yourself but they're there with you hanging out.

mckirk au they used to be engaged: all the crew of the Enterprise doesn't get how or why Dr McCoy and Captain Kirk know each other so well when they barely talk to each other when they have to, let alone when they're alone. The shuttlecraft isn't the first place they saw each other but no one believes either of them when they say they used to be engaged to be married because it's too wild even for them who are going to explore the unexplored.

They used to be this perfect, young thing where Leo had aspirations and Jim's one was even bigger and they were both going in the same places so why not? Nineteen and the world in the palm of their hands, kissing at every corner in Leo's house and sharing peaches and cold tea, waiting for nothing more than two pieces of paper and then freedom. That never came. Not for both of them together and it would take years before their friendship could have that name, because what did Nyota see at the beginning? It was just a chapter of many.

Nothing really big or dramatic happend when they decided to broke up, like maybe, probably, someone would have tried to kiss Jim during a party because he was still Jim but nothing really came out of it? It was probably more the realisation of what would have implied going that far, together and being without all the support they had until that very moment. Leonard long hours studying and then at work, Jim projects and ungodly hours, a home to tend to at the top of everything and maybe, it was a little too much and they were a little too young.

(How it works: they sit on the same side of the table, the third week of their mission. Jim is tired and Leonard has the most prominent dark circles under his eyes everyone, but Jim has ever seen. Jim's head slips on Leonard''s shoulder, Bones even if he still doesn't call him that but he does in his head, and Leonard's arm around his waist, singing a new version of Sweet Home Alabama that says, Sweet Home Georgia.)

And the crew just doesn't get why don't try again when they're so compatible and they still have that something half of the people can only hope to find in a relationship. None of them really has an answer for Nyota's constant pesting, Spock's logical points of view or Hikaru's way of remembering years passed and now they're grown adults, doesn't matter how many times Leonard calls Jim kid and gets an old man back, because they're different people now.

(How it continue to work: Jim sends Leo a piece of peach pie, handmade and with fresh peaches in, the day of David's anniversary and Leonard has a medkit just for Jim and fills it with three different kinds of snacks with fruit and vegetables blend in because he knows he won't eat them when he's on an away mission.)

BJ for the character thing

favorite thing about them

His arc! He's the perfect American golden boy and he is destroyed by America. Incredibly compelling and excellent symbolism. As a person, he really cares. He has some really wonderful moments with patients. He doesn't have that magic bedside manner that Hawkeye and Margaret have, but he's good, and we see how much he cares. He also cares a lot about Hawkeye. When he's like "I'm just calmer than you" and then immediately attacks+threatens to kill that patient who attacks Hawkeye? Good stuff. I like that he tries to be comforting at the end of Period of Adjustment even though he is full of shit. I love how much of a dad he is, with bad puns and apparently drinking lime kool-aid with strips of bologna dipped in it (???). His despair at being separated from Erin is really heartbreaking. It's so true that he will never get those two years back, and that really happened to so many families.

least favorite thing about them

There are a lot of times he's a bad friend to Hawkeye, and that would be interesting, except I don't think the show fully acknowledges it. With Hawkeye and Trapper I never got the "are you sure you're best friends?" feeling and there are a couple times I get it with Hawkeye and BJ. BJ just doesn't have a hook that compels me the way most of the others do. I also feel like he's overly dismissive of Hawkeye "tilting at windmills" and hypocritical in that some weeks he's down to change what they can and other weeks he's like what's the point. I know writing-wise it made sense to have the others be less than convinced by Hawkeye's moral stands, but I feel like if BJ is supposed to be Hawkeye's best friend he needs a better reason for being so unsupportive sometimes. And sometimes he's just a dick in general! Charles listening to his records in the officers' club in that one episode would have been a perfectly acceptable compromise but BJ sabotaged it for no reason. He can be very self-centered, like the whole "no one's stuck here like me" thing, but I actually like that because it's interesting. Also, he went to Stanford, which is disgusting. My least favorite thing he ever did was steal Hawkeye's bird imitations joke after telling him it was bad. It was just such a mean thing to do to Hawkeye specifically and BJ knows Hawkeye well enough to know how damaging it is to Hawkeye's fragile ego. Oh and Hawkeye was right to be mad about the socks, too.

favorite line

He's such an asshole in that episode but the line about how he missed "a lifetime. Erin's lifetime. Even if they sent me home right now, I'm never gonna get that back." I'm paraphrasing but you get it.

brOTP

BJ and Hawkeye absolutely. The moments they're on are really good. Mike Farrell saying BJ would walk across the country to spend time in Hawkeye's company resonated with me, because my best friend lives in another state and I would walk there without question. I think BJ and Hawkeye are codependent in a way that's not entirely healthy, but it's healthier than the alternative. They're stuck in a war zone and need each other to survive, I don't really care about BJ one-on-one with anyone else, unfortunately, but I am obsessed with BJ, Hawkeye, Margaret, and Charles as a group.

OTP

BJ/Peg but not really in a "oh they're so cute" way, I'm just rooting for them to stay together, mostly because I think in their case marriage is more interesting than divorce. They're this young couple that has their commitment to each other really tested in a way they never expected and how they deal with that is really compelling to me.

nOTP

Hunnihawk. I really just don't like it. There's just nothing there for me. Absent a couple of moments, I would have to be actively looking to see it, which would be okay if I had a motivation to look, but I don't because I think they're bad together. I also just don't see a believable situation where they end up together. I know fanfiction is about wish fulfillment for a lot of people, but for me, pure wish fulfillment isn't interesting. I have read and enjoyed hunnihawk because that's what most of the fic out there is so I make it work, but I never seek it out and probably never will. I'm actually at a point where I will click on Piercentyre or Hawkeye/Margaret just for some variety. Also BJ/Aggie. Absolute worst one episode romance. "I love you" girl stop it's been like two days. You're embarrassing yourself.

random headcanon

He shaves his mustache on his way home. Peg is a little disappointed because she wanted to see it. When he's hit with the reality of everything he stops shaving entirely and grows a depression beard, which his boss at his respectable 1950s hospital job begs him to at least trim. When he starts getting out of the spiral he goes back to the mustache, maybe not permanently (bc I hate it) but for a while (bc symbolism).

This could be its own post honestly. I'll try to be abridged. I don't think BJ is gay. I honestly think he's straight, but I can easily accept him as bisexual for fanfiction purposes. I can't even see him as gay easily. I also don't really like it as a headcanon because no matter what angst obstacles you add, it's an easy way out of his marriage. Even though I'm rooting for BJ and Peg to stay together, I could see their marriage falling apart, but it has to be a genuine breakdown, not "oh, turns out I was gay all along!" I don't really think BJ is all that crazy. I had seen some memes about it so I kept waiting for it and I still don't really have a clue what everyone is talking about. There are a handful of episodes where he acts crazy, but not nearly enough for me to consider it a defining character trait. I also don't think he had pre-existing emotional issues. I think he was an easygoing, open guy, who was absolutely destroyed by the war. He's really only interesting to me that way. Specifically, I think that "enigma in size 13 shoes" line is widely over-interpreted. Textually, I think Sidney is mostly confounded by how BJ remains calm, and recognizes that he must have some internal anger (which we see erupt on several occasions, he's repressed but he's not that repressed, because it comes out kind of a lot), and within the episode one of the storylines is Sidney beginning to figure BJ out. He finds out that BJ is using practical jokes as an outlet to let off steam, and understands him a little more than he did before. I think that line and that story more generally is mostly about the writers trying to figure out the character, but even from a Watsonian perspective, it doesn't mean he's a complete mystery or super unhinged. Sidney asks a question: how does BJ stay calm? and finds an answer: practical jokes are his outlet. Sidney has also known Hawkeye, Klinger, Radar, Father Mulcahy, and Margaret a year longer than he's known BJ, who he only recently met. I do think it's funny to say Sidney has no idea what that guy's fucking deal is, and it's true to an extent, but I think fanon makes way more out of it than was intended, and more than I prefer. I also do not understand the "BJ is a liar thing" at all. I do like the interpretation that he was incredibly honest before the war and then once he starts lying he can't stop, but I'm not sure how much textual evidence there is vs just a fanon thing. It's possible he does lie in the later seasons, but I don't think he often lies for no reason (and a practical joke is a reason, because as established that's an important part of his character). Generally, I don't think BJ was trapped before the war or just doing what was expected of him. I think he was doing what was expected of him, but he didn't mind. His father and grandfather were doctors, so he's expected to go to medical school: that's okay, he likes being a doctor. He's expected to get married and have a family: that's okay, he likes being a husband and father. I don't think he's lying to himself about any of that, I think he's genuinely happy, but he's also a little sheltered so it never occurs to him to question anything until he's sent to Korea. I think Hanky Panky is a decent episode. A little cringey to watch, but decent and believable. Not so hard to watch I'd need to skip it. I don't love the pink henley. I don't hate it and it is iconic but aesthetically I don't love it. I love the red suspenders even less. I hate the mustache. I think it looks awful. I like BJ more in seasons 4-6, even though I think he's more interesting and better-written in seasons 7-11, and I genuinely cannot tell you if it's just because I hate the mustache so much. It like. Legit might be. I dislike entire seasons of The West Wing and The X-Files partly because of the characters' hair. Yes I'm insane. I think his motorcycle thing is kind of cringe, too. Coffee shop AU: Who is the barista, and who frequents the coffee shop? Yennefer frequents the coffee shop, for certain. She’s a big important lawyer or ceo or something, and she comes in every day for her coffee because she needs her fix. (this might be influenced by the lovely fic “Our Colors so Bright and Brillant” but I love the idea of struggling musician Jaskier. So like. Episode 2 Jaskier. He hasn’t hit his stride yet. He’s working at a coffee shop to make ends meet, and he’s trying to convince the owner to let him do like, open mic nights or something.) And Geralt... if he works at the coffee shop, it’s just so that on the weekends he can go live his horse girl dreams at one of those therapy ranches. If he DOESN’T work at the coffee shop, he works full time at the therapy ranch. He doesn’t interact with the riders much, just the rescue horses. Does this AU exist? Jaskier flirting SO HARD with two of his most regular clients?

Highschool/College AU: Who is the straight-A student, and who’s the backrow slacker? Yennefer gets straight As and has to work her ass off for it. Jaskier gets As in nearly everything without working at all, and the minute he has a class he’s not naturally good at he gets very pouty about it because he never learned how to apply himself. Geralt is good at three subjects because they’re his special interests and he just. cannot bring himself to care about the other subjects. Probably if this is a high school AU the Wolves are all being fostered by Vesemir but everyone thinks they’re like, in a gang? Because they wear matching clothes and they hang out all the time.

Rivals to loves AU: Who takes their rivalry seriously, and who is half in it just to push the other’s buttons? Ooh okay so like. With the Yenskier part of this obviously we have the canon Yennefer who is just here to have fun, who is better than Jaskier and KNOWS it, and Jaskier who is super invested and wants to, some day, just once, one-up her. With Geralt/Yennefer in a rivalry AU, tho? You know that scene in the opening of the Incredibles where Helen tells Bob he needs to be more flexible? That. Their rivalry is JUST sexual tension. (ooh now I want a superhero/incredibles type modern au) I liked what you said about a Geralt/Jaskier rivalry where Jaskier is just in it for the lolz. And Geralt is so tired. So, so tired. And annoyed. But he will not let Jaskier know. But Jaskier already knows.

Enemies to lovers AU: Which one switches sides? Not Geralt. Ooh, double agent Jaskier who’s feeding info to both sides and only in it to save his own skin until he falls in love with both of them and now he’s trying to save THEIR skins, and then Yen switches sides because she never really believed in her cause anyway, and who cares about Geralt’s cause, either, there are no Right Sides in a war, but Geralt cares SO MUCH and has this MORAL COMPASS, and it makes Yen and Jaskier both want to be BETTER so they join him.

Soulmate AU: Who is eager to meet their soulmate? Who absolutely does not want to meet their soulmate? Jaskier is the only one who wants to meet his soul mate. The other two have so much baggage. Geralt doesn’t want to tie anyone else to him, and Yennefer doesn’t want to NEED anyone. Jaskier, though, is like, “someone who’ll stay with my annoying bastard ass? TWO someones?”

Single parent AU: Which one is the single parent? (Alt. if they’re both single parents: Which one is open to starting a new relationship from the start? Which one is never planning on finding love again… Until they meet the other and are instantly smitten?) Jaskier and Ciri are trying to parent trap Yennefer and Geralt back together. This would be easier if Ciri had a twin. So instead... Yennefer has been dating casually, but she’s not interested in monogamy or anything serious. She and Jaskier go out sometimes. Geralt does NOT want to see anyone else since his last relationship crashed and burned. But there’s Jaskier, and he and Ciri get along so well... and Geralt is lost. Cue shenanigans in which Jaskier and Ciri scheme for all three of them to see each other

Doctor AU: Which one is the longsuffering doctor? Which one is the patient? The only doctor AU I have ever experienced is the tv show House so bear with me this one will be less detailed. Doctor Yen. Geralt who keeps getting hurt and telling increasingly unbelievable lies about it. Bright young resident Jaskier who genuinely wants to help and has the SLICKEST bedside manner. Yen knows he’s actually an asshole tho.

Bodyguard AU: Who is the bodyguard? Who are they protecting? Which one is secretly pining for the other? Bodyguard Geralt, ofc! And Yen can either be a big important person or another bodyguard who works for a DIFFERENT company and sometimes their charges will be in the same place and they can have clandestine meetings... Except Geralt’s latest responsibility is A Handful of a viscount’s son who won’t stop screwing married people so Geralt can’t get a moment to himself because he doesn’t trust Jaskier not to get MURDERED. And then this happens: Jaskier: You’re extra grumpy today. Why? Geralt: I have a friend in town. Jaskier: Go see them! Geralt: I can’t. I have to stick with you. Jaskier: I could... come with you? And then they all fall in love.

Pirate AU: Who is the pirate? Who is the member of the royal family who did not sign up for this? Yen the pirate, queen of the seas. Geralt her sometimes-lover who lives on land mostly and disagrees with her piracy but agrees that the people she’s stealing from are, for the most part, dickheads. Jaskier the captive who is really more trouble than he’s worth.

Childhood best friends AU: Which one was super obviously in love with the other the whole time? Who was oblivious until they were older? Jaskier. Jaskier who falls in love with everyone with a pulse flirted with both of them the WHOLE time. But Geralt didn’t take him seriously because how was he supposed to know what was real flirting and what was just Jaskier? And Yen KNEW but she thought maybe if she ignored the problem it would go away. Thanks, this was FUN! And now I want to write ALL these aus T-T Ask me about AUs for more ships!

7. Doctor AU: Which one is the longsuffering doctor? Which one is the patient? 

(not sure if this is technically counts as a doctor au, but I don’t write for these two nearly enough)

AU Questions for your OTP

“I’m not a doctor, you know.”  Winter cuts the end of the gauze with a forceful snip of her surgical scissors.  She expertly finishes wrapping the bandage around Robyn’s forearm.  She puts her scissors down and reaches for the disinfectant without having to look where it is.  “You should have gone to a hospital.”

“What can I say?”  Robyn shoots a charming smile that would have worked on literally anyone else at Winter.  “You have better bedside manner than most doctors and nurses.”

Winter glares.  “Somehow I don’t believe that.”  She starts dressing Robyn’s next wound.  When Robyn winces at the application of the disinfectant, Winter’s eyes flick up to her patient’s face.  “It’s not too late.  I can put a good word for you in with the General.  You don’t have to keep doing this, Robyn.”

Robyn closes her eyes.  She leans her head back to rest against the wall behind her.  “The fact that you’d say that means you still don’t understand why I do.”

Sighing, Winter looks away.  “You can stay here for the night.  No one will disturb you.  I sent Penny down to patrol Mantle with the instructions that she’s to notify me before she returns.”  Her face flushes at the memory of hastily shoving Robyn in a closet the last time, to keep Penny from finding her and asking a barrage of awkward questions on why she’s there.

“Hmm.”  Robyn answers noncommittally.  “Have you considered my offer any more?  You’re a good huntress, Winter.  Better than the military deserves.”

Winter doesn’t answer verbally, just shoots Robyn a pointed look.

Silence descends over them for the rest of the evening.  Both want to say something more, but neither knows how to bridge the gap between them.
