#I am like the opposite of a lot of people where I dislike sketching more than lining

I love lineart, if I could get a job lining stuff I would have some fun with it but that would necessitate joining the art industry on a more serious level probably and that just. doesn't sound great
Like ideally it would be fun to just take comms where people give me their sketches and I line them, like you hate lining? Let me do that shit for you yeehaw

Melo is My Nature Review
Well, as usual, I’m late to the party! I picked up 2019′s Melo is my Nature/ Be Melodramatic with some trepidation since I was (am!) still smarting a bit from the disappointment that’s Hospital Playlist S2, and I wasn’t quite ready for another.
I’m so glad I gave it a chance! While it isn’t a “perfect” series- in the nature of the world *sigh*- its combination of quirky, clever, self-aware humour and heartfelt performances won me over from the first episode.
More thoughts under the cut (along with some spoilers)
I’m very fond of ensemble dramas that love their characters, and “Melo is my Nature” does that very well. Perhaps a little too well, to the point that you feel the writers letting themselves be more than a little indulgent during the middle stretch of the episodes. But I can’t complain too much, because yes, I know the feeling!  “Side characters” that refuse to stay in the lane and take over the narrative are also my favourites, as a writer and a viewer. I loved, loved, loved Lee Joo-bin as the flighty-but-amazingly-smart Lee So-min; that felt like such a delightful  clap-back against the prevailing sentiment that often goes against young, successful women and the ridiculous levels of expectations of them, in how they need to perform gender and  femininity and smartness. I loved that (like Emma! There’s a lot of Jane in this series!) the writers managed to make her likeable even though they never disregard her flaws or its consequences.
Another performance/ character that I totally adored was Baek Ji-won as Jeong Hye-jeong, the industry maven who may be (?) a nod to Kim Eun-sook, I suppose! I was afraid at some point that they’d just trash her character, by making her a little too ridiculous in an unkind way, but I found some of the loveliest scenes involved her- like the one where she tells Jin-joo to do the work, but not be too successful. In the end, there was a love and fondness for her, a genuine empathy, that really was core to what made this show so successful.
Shout out also to two of the weirdest characters I’ve watched, but thoroughly loved- Heo Joon-seok as Director Dong-gi & Lee Ji-min as Nutritionist (?) Da-mi. I absolutely adored that the only wedding in this series is between these two, and they do it in a completely predictably-unusual way.
Re: the “main” characters, I loved all of them without exception, though some more than the others :) One of the things I love about the show is how real and present the three female leads feel; they feel like whole, entire people rather than caricatures of them, even when the show reaches almost unusual levels of quirky. I love that a through-line of the narrative is how important women’s labour is- to themselves. The work they do, which is acknowledged as a part of their identity rather than just something they do to pay bills (though of course there’s acknowledgement of that aspect too!),  their hunger to do it well and for it to matter- all of that is portrayed in a way that’s charming  but still taken very seriously. And the way you know that its taken seriously is in the things they focus on- how Oh Jin-joo struggles to write alone, and how Han-joo’s learning to be someone’s mentor while struggling with her own insecurities, and how lost Eun-jung feels, when work which was supposed to give her purpose fails her in a time of crisis, and how unmoored she feels without it.
Re: the romance- I’m someone predisposed to dislike heterosexual romance, especially at the present moment, so it’s always with a great deal of hesitation that I start watching shows that I know have a large romance component. It’s always a bit of a coin toss for me whether the show will end up making me hate the romance or just about tolerate it. I rarely expect to *like * it.  So “Melo is my Nature” was a pleasant surprise!  This is  one of the few series where I felt the writers put in the work to sell the “main romance” of the show. You get to know the Oh Jin-joo and Beom-soo in sharply etched sketches before they move into the romance part (with a lot of tongue-in-cheek meta humour about the formulaic nature of tv romances). I genuinely felt that thrill of  “oh this could go platonic or romantic and I would like either” slowly ease into “oh my god these two are MEANT TO BE”, because the Romance is clearly in the all the ways they are NOT meant to be, but also, very, very definitely are. DELICIOUS. Just my cup of Jane Austen in a different context/ time.
Through most of the show though, my heart was divided between two characters- Jeon Yeo-bin’s stellar Eun-jung and Han Ji-eun’s pitch perfect Han-joo. Jeon Yeo-bin brought edginess, dark humour and a deep, almost- inconsolable grief to Eun-jung. Some of the stand out scenes of the entire series are hers: the moment where she watches herself on video talking to an imaginary person, and the moment she breaks down in front of the psych after talking about her mother. Watching this show, it really felt like- oh, she’s a star. Consider me sold on her for life (though, no, I will not watch Vincenzo unless there’s a Hong Cha-young supercut out there, in which case, please put it in my eyeballs now)
Han Ji-eun, imho, actually pulled off the toughest performance, because I think Han-joo’s strength of character is so often concealed by her “silliness” (in a similar vein to So-min’s), and that often makes her someone you’d overlook or not take seriously.  But god, she broke my heart, from the scene in the first episode where she’s sitting alone at a table after a rough day and watching her horrible ex live his best life to the hilarious and excruciating  “Oppa” scene, to the one where her kid is quite unconsciously cruel to her in the way kids can be. I was disappointed in the way they dropped the “reveal” about whom she’s dating in the last episode- not that I wanted her to be in an romance with Jae-hoon, god, NO- but it felt quite clunky.  This is one of the two complaints I have with the show.
The second one is that starting from the middle, episodes began to noticeably feel like scenes/ sketches spliced together. Each scene is, within itself, perfectly written and performed, but the seams between the stories began to show. I felt one of the main reasons was that Eun-jung’s trauma tonally felt like it belonged in another show, but instead it had to get stitched into the mostly happy/ frothy storylines of the other characters. Sure, we had Hae-joon and his girlfriend’s terrible relationship, but the show had an easier time integrating that by way of Han-joo.
That said, I love how clever this show is! I love that it loves its own cleverness and can’t resist the urge to show it off- from all the meta references, in-universe jokes, and oh, that entire episode devoted to farting, complete with a song about it,  which I think maybe my fave episode of the series. A great look at the place of performance in intimate relationships (and how the women bear the burden of it more than the men), but coming at it from a place of compassion and humour rather than anger. Love that choice, for the show and us!
I think @rain-hat mentioned in a comment here or twitter that Melo feels like a part of a triangle of shows along with Run On and Search : WWW.  I’m inclined to swap out Run On for Rookie Historian, or huh, maybe change the triangle for a quadrangle? Rookie Historian dares to imagine a past where our protagonist is (mostly) unshackled by the patriarchy and in the “modern” ending to its main heterosexual romance, reminds us that people have always found ways to find joy and thrive outside the rigid bounds of society. Search: WWW goes about it in the opposite direction- placing us in a present/future where the patriarchy doesn’t  and hasn’t ever mattered. Melo, I think, doesn’t quite do that, but in common with both these shows, it refuses to focus on the trauma of living under such structural violence, and instead talks about how we all (irrespective of gender) can find a way to remain unbroken by it. And while both Search:WWW and Melo do well at queer-platonic relationships as an alternate to the heterosexual project, it’s Run On, I think, which goes furthest there- firstly because though ostensibly structured around a het romance, that romance turns out to be falling in love with yourself/ loving yourself;  secondly because it’s most explicitly queer in the choices that the characters make and the lives that they choose for themselves- Min-joo & May are each others darlings and will be for life, Yeong-hwa and Ki Seon-gyeom are allowed a tenderness in their friendship that feels like an explicit repudiation of toxic masculinity, and of course, you have May being asexual, but not aromantic, and Goh Ye-jun’s whole arc of accepting himself as a gay man, and finding acceptance of that identity from others.
Anyway! tl;dr would recommend (and have recommended!) Melo is my Nature to anyone fond of women, clever story telling and also ridiculously happy songs.

⌠ MADISON BAILEY, 19, CISFEMALE, SHE/HER ⌡ welcome back to gallagher academy, CHRISTINA ' CHRIS ' ANDERSON! according to their records, they’re a FIRST year, specializing in MACGYVER SURVIVAL SKILLS & NAVIGATION + PROTECTION & ENFORCEMENT; and they DID NOT go to a spy prep high school. when i see them walking around in the halls, i usually see a flash of ( speckles of dried paint on fingers, cruising round on a longboard, joints tucked behind ears wrapped in colourful papers ). when it’s the ( sagittarius )’s birthday on 12/27/2001, they always request their PHO from the school’s chefs. looks like they’re well on their way to graduation. ⌿ mochi, 24, she/her, gmt ⍀
@gallagherintro
hi uwu, here is a new baby who is not very baby but still a lil baby
. . . it got quite long so tldr; she’s a stubborn art hoe from california who’s dad died so she’s come to gallagher bc her mom is a professor in the p+e major <3
parallels
wyldstyle  — the lego movie: 85%
mulan — mulan: 84%
nymphadora tonks — harry potter: 83%
princess fiona — shrek: 83%
robin buckley — stranger things: 82%
here is a full list
HISTORY
potential triggers — car accident, parental death, divorce
so she’s grown up on on the west coast p much ??? her whole life. her mom worked as a bodyguard for sum famous peeps, dad was doctor but occasionally also a medic in the field — they didn’t always see eye to eye and divorced when chris was around nine. it was mostly to do with chris’ future like whether she’d go to spy prep school and follow in their footsteps and her dad didn’t want that for her so they disagreed, and she lived with him instead, living a more or less normal life. her mom then moved away when the opportunity to become a professor at gallagher presented itself, so they’ve really not been close at all since then
lived fairly comfortably, either way her dad had money and her mom sent support too. her father definitely earns less from no longer being in the spy world but he vowed to leave that behind when he divorced his wife and other than a few people from his past popping up unannounced, he kept that vow. they moved around a couple times in order to keep chris safe, and especially when someone did find them ( even if it was friendly ) but mostly grew up in california, and a lot of it is to do with the fact chris loves it there so much
but chris knows about the spy world, what her mom does and the type of school she works at, but it never interested her enough to try and reach out or fight her dad on it as she enjoyed her life
she remembers her mom as someone stubborn, argumentative, volatile which is the opposite of her dad who was patient, loving and endearing — so it’s a no brainer for her, she loves her dad a lot and he gave up a lot for her while her mom gave chris up for that world, her job, etc aka nada
BUT her dad died in a car accident recently that she was also in but was only a bit beaten up at most ( has some cuts / new scars, learn more below ) leaving her mother to swiftly pick her up and enrol her into gallagher, more to keep an eye on her than anything.
her mom chose her majors and some of her classes for her, which chris is mad about, but mainly bc looking at what ones were offered she’d def pick macgyver anyway, and her mom argued p+e was a step into the physical and combat side of thing without being too heavy on it ( tho it’s the major she teaches so she’s biased and chris just thinks she wants to be closer ) but tbh ? chris just doesn’t want her mom to be right whatsoever or have the satisfaction of thinking she knows her daughter in anyway at all but she knows if she went undecided she’d probably pick those up again in her second year so she’s just ‘ going with it ‘ begrudgingly as if she has no choice
PERSONALITY
extremely stubborn, which she gets from her mom, would rather ruin her life than go back on something or admit she was wrong, if she apologises for something she'll find a way to do it where she's not actually ever saying the words ' im sorry ' or ' i was wrong ' and would rather start another argument than do that — but obviously she loves other people apologising to her
she is generally nice ??? i just think she can be irritated easy ?????? like a bit of a hot head tho she'd argue she's chill, she is mostly chill but likes to debate, be right, and can be very my way or the high way at times — i’ll figure her out more as i play her bc i can’t tell if she’s mean or not but i don’t think so, just a bit tougher than she needs to be
in my head she’s like a seb/luc hybrid so . . . take that as you will
doesn’t dislike gallagher ( mostly ) but thinks all the legacies — even tho she technically is one, she doesn’t identify as one — are entitled spoiled brats and should get their heads out of their ass, doesn't like that being a legacy is even a thing though a lot of it definitely comes from her bitter resentment towards her mom and how she'd have rather leave her and her dad than leave the spy life hbsjhbsjhb also i think bc of her mom she has level 5 clearance which . . . she’s not complaining about but definitely complaining that clearance levels are even a thing, she’s gonna contradict herself a lot, i feel it
MISC
i THINK she’s only arrived, like, at the start of spring semester tbh, she wasn’t here for fall so she is new new
halfway through her first year at stanford studying art alongside film and media as a minor before her mom brought her to gallagher — which she's kind of not happy about like she understands her dad didn't want it for her, she also wanted to just stay in california but the only family she has now is on her mom's side.
she's still enrolled at stanford, though dropped her minor, and is studying online for her major as she's made it clear to her mom she doesn't want to be a spy so she pulled a few strings with the stanford admission board to allow her studying to continue ( idek if this is allowed i'm just pretending her mom is powerful enough to do it ) — it was a big reason chris agreed to come to gallagher, not that she had much of a choice, bc she wants her ‘ normal ‘ life and her ‘ normal ‘ degree regardless of being at a spy school
only her mom calls her christina and she actually hates it so pls dont unless you are trying to get on her bad side — also she probs avoids her mom like the plague so don’t bring that up either
often covered in little cuts and bruises from her skating but she’s got two fresh / soon to be scars on the left side of her face on the top of her cheek bone and on her jaw from a shards of glass when she was in the car accident — she is the type to pick her scabs until they bleed again, too, so i picture her with loads of little scars especially on her hands, elbows and knees
she did learn self defense from her dad growing up and she has studied jiujitsu and akido since she was around thirteen, she also boxes but it's more casual like for stress and stuff rather than something she takes overly seriously
she likes surfing, diving, enjoys the kind of world that exists underwater where it's just peaceful and calm so she will be around the lake a lot / at the pool if you need to find her
she’s 5’3 and never wears heels
pansexual and while it might change i wanna say she's not overly sexual, like wouldn't have hookups for no reason ?? but potentially some one night stands or drunken mistakes or whatever. doesn't look down on sluts but i think she doesn't have the most confidence in that area, or in self esteem in general, so she'll ??? only really have a frequent thing if she feels Hella comfortable
the type to have crushes tho, but not act on them at all bc again self esteem issues
bit of a tomboy, skater, stoner — though she wouldn't identify as one — really loves movies and can be a proper filmophile, probably has more film soundtracks on her spotify unwrapped than she does actual artists and don't get her started on Women— in film bc she won't stop
very active, sporty, probs trying to parkour around campus
enjoys painting, sketching, simply creating things — often is filming, riding a longboard, working on some kind of little project she'll take too seriously but won't show people until it's perfect
is a little pretentious at times ??? doesn't necessarily mean to be but if it's a debate on a topic she's passionate about ( such as art, film, etc ) then she will try to ensure you know just how knowledgeable she is on it, she's not afraid to flex but she wouldn't outwardly flex for no reason if that makes sense
she also . . . feels p dumb at gallagher tbh, a lot of her strengths lie in her creativity and art and now she’s very ??? wtf am i doing ?? but she will continue to act like she knows !
can speak english, french, german and spanish all pretty fluently, italian well enough to get by, knows a bit of japanese bc she’s . . . a weeb sometimes but also bc of her martial arts
CONNECTIONS
FAMILY / CHILDHOOD FRIENDS ( SPY ) — so this would more than likely be before her parents divorce, but she’s not against keeping in contact a little if she liked you, it could have also been a family who reached out to her dad afterwards because while he’d move away / hide his location promptly after, he would still help them if they needed it ( 1 / ? )
FAMILY / CHILDHOOD FRIENDS ( NON SPY ) — same thing, but would have probably been after the divorce, just normal families that her and her dad knew, neighbours, work colleagues, school friends, would more than likely have also needed to be west coast sorta area but if your muse was there briefly, they could have kept in contact once they’d left ( 0 / ? )
LEGACIES — she potentially . . . won’t like you if you’re a legacy and you are egotistical / assholey even a tiny bit, bc that basically proves her argument that they’re ALL like that jshbjsbjs but i wud like her to have legacies that she . . . hates that she likes as well, i think she’ll realise p quickly most are fine lmao
ART HOES — whether they’re into painting as well and they do it together or they let her paint them !
SMOKE / SKATE BUDS — one or the other, both, whatever !!
A HOOK UP THAT’S EITHER ALREADY HAPPENED OR GOING TO — in my head she’s a bit ??? w sex tbh so maybe plot this out a bit more but can be a ?? positive relationship or a negative one idm
CRUSHES !!!!!!!!! — she’s not even been at the school long but im certain she probs has some already
i’m not good w wanted connections so pls just hmu if u have ideas and as usual like dis for plots / jus message me, i’ll be on discord !! if you don’t have/use discord just message me first on tumblr bc otherwise i wont realise jhbsjhbjhbsj

reMarkable 2 Review
I had some requests for a review of this device, and I am glad to oblige in this case. I've been closely following digital pen stylus tech for about eight years. I'm just old enough that I still need to handwrite a lot of things to tap into my creativity, but greatly dislike clutter in my life.
The reMarkable is for the person that writes enough by hand to fill several notebooks a year. For someone that wants the tactile and somatic component of writing on paper to associate with their process. The new reMarkable 2 does basically what the reMarkable 1 did; faster, better, and with a much improved piece of hardware.
If you've read my previous review from May 2018, you know I basically raved about the first generation reMarkable. I had a few criticisms of the Gen 1, and a lot of that has been addressed with the Gen 2.
Support & User Experience
I've used a reMarkable tablet continuously for almost three years. I've never had a support issue with one. The software is updated regularly, features added, and user experience improved with each iteration.
There is really no comparisons to be made with that kind of uninterrupted usage. No smartphone, tablet, or computer you ever own will be that reliable. A 3-4 year old Thinkpad, running Linux, is about as close as it gets to that level of, switch-on-and-use, every day, without fail feeling.
The reason is that the reMarkable 2 is leveraging the most reliable hardware, user input methods, stylus technology, and operating system basis available. My fear has always been that my reMarkable wouldn't be as reliable as a regular piece of paper, and a good pen. So far, that fear has never been realized with the reMarkable 1, or 2.
Tumblr media
Pen Stylus Input
The majority of what one picks up and uses will be Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP) stylus tech, with Microsoft Surface Products, or Wacom AES (Active Electrostatic) like that found in a lot of Asus, Dell, Lenovo, and so forth. The older Wacom EMR (Electromagnetic Resonance) is used less frequently, and usually only with their own products, or a version thereof with Samsung Phones and Tablets.
Of the three options, Wacom's EMR is still the best.
That's what you'll find on the reMarkable Tablet, and if you get their Marker Plus (it's the black one) it has the magical EMR eraser tip opposite the drawing point. There is no better pen stylus experience, for general use, sketching, handwriting capture, tilt sensitivity, and so forth.
The Marker Plus is $50 more than the regular Marker. It is worth it.
What if you're like me, and you have a drawer full of pen stylus products? Products that include the legendary Excalibur stylus pen that came with the Thinkpad Tablet 10 Gen 1, and worked with the EMR capable Thinkpad Yoga S1 from 2013? The one with the eraser tip, and sweet felt tip point? Will that stylus work?
Yes. Yes, yes it will.
However, the reMarkable Marker Plus just feels better. It's heft (19g) is perfect, eraser tip rounded to feel like the real thing, and tips that degrade gracefully without marking up the screen. Buy. The. Marker. Plus.
Tumblr media
The Hardware
The manufacturer says that the reMarkable 2 gets 3 times the battery life of the 1, is 2 times as responsive (relative to rendering digital ink), and is the world's thinnest tablet at 0.19". Mostly, this is all of this seems to be true. Also, as mentioned before all the new Marker Plus has a built in eraser, all the new accessories snap together with magnets, and it charges with USB-c.
The screen is capacitive touch capable now. No more page turning buttons, and you can swipe down from the top to back out of a document or folder. You can turn pages with the swipe of a finger now. It takes a second to get the gestures down, but they're crisp and reliable once you do.
The tablet runs off of a dual core ARM process (a good thing, in my opinion).
My only quibble is that it is supposed to be able to connect to both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz WiFi, but so far I've only gotten it to connect to 2.4. It might be something with my specific router, and I'm not sure if my experience is typical.
On the lower left hand side of the tablet there are 5 connection points. This suggests that the tablet may have the ability to connect to other accessories in the future. If reMarkable added a Plain Text Editor, and a keyboard cover to the reMarkable, I would be over the moon.
There is no evidence that they will do this, but a guy can dream. Having what's basically an e Ink Typewriter this thin and light would be the ultimate for this writer.
Tumblr media
The Software
It is much the same experience as the reMarkable 1 with a few new additions.
You can convert your handwritten notes into text, cursive or block letters, and share by email. There is support for 33 languages.
With a Google Chrome plug-in, you can read web articles and pages on your reMarkable. If you're already battling with eye strain from looking at glowing screens all day, this is a nice feature.
Reading large PDFs and eBooks is still not crisp and snappy, but it is a vastly improved experience when compared to the reMarkable 1. Large graphically intense documents can be navigated without it taxing your patience. What I store on my reMarkable is vastly different now because of how much improved document handling has become.
I find the small sacrifice in speed rendering pages worth it, compared to the eye strain I get reading on other screens.
More pens, features, page templates, and ease of organizing have been added incrementally over time. With regard to the core functioning (Linux Based Codex OS) of the device, the manufacturer has only ever improved and supported the reMarkable.
Aesthetics
The reMarkable 1 was good for what it could do. It wasn't a bad looking product, but compared to the reMarkable 2, it was a rough prototype. Most tablets do not feel as nice in the hand as the reMarkable 2.
Rubber no-slip nubs on the back, rounded edges, satin finished glass and aluminum, make the tablet itself feel like it's from the future. I bought the Polymer Weave Book Folio, a step up from the regular Folio. A close friend got the same device and marker options as I did, but opted for the Premium Leather Folio.
Definitely, get the Book Folio, and if you can scrabble together the extra money, get the premium leather. That's my only regret is that I didn't spring for the best accessory offered. Is the Polymer Weave good? Absolutely, worth the $99. It is rigid, will protect your investment, and it's very classy looking.
My friend who picked up the Leather Folio is a graphic designer, and has greatly informed my sense of aesthetics over the years. She says the Leather Book Folio is well worth the extra. She is, most certainly, correct.
So, yeah, if you're going to get a reMarkable 2 and want a slightly used Polymer Weave Book Folio (mine), I'll let it go for cheap (so I can atone, and get the leather version, ha ha).
Tumblr media
Value
The reMarkable 2 doesn't have a web browser, app store, Merge Dragons, audio player, or other third party applications. It won't replace your iPad, or Android Tablet. It will replace all the paper, notebooks, and pens in your life. This is especially true if you have a small scanner (like a Doxie), and leverage reMarkable's Smartphone app and cloud sync feature.
This tablet is for people that like paper, a lot, but don't want to carry it around or keep track of it. It is for people that fill 8-12 Moleskines a year, and mark up hundreds of pages of documents, for themselves, and others. It is for people that tap into their creativity by writing things down, sketching diagrams, and making lists.
The act of holding a pen or pencil against paper is a cognitive trigger, built into their implicit memory, every day, for years, that allows them to do their things.
$399 will buy a decent Samsung or Apple branded tablet, but neither of those is designed to emulate the experience of writing on paper like the reMarkable 2 tablet is. The reMarkable 2 will run you $399, a Marker Plus $99, and a Polymer Weave Folio $99, bringing it all to almost $600.
Unless you lurk reMarkable's website, and wait for a promotion. They did run a promotion for their pre-order, and will likely do something similar within a year of release. It is my recollection that the manufacturer ran at least two promotions for the Remarkable 1, and the savings were significant.
If you don't need one right this minute, check the website every week or so, their Amazon Store edifice, and whatever other options they have for your region.
Competitors
In the last few years, reMarkable has only acquired more competition in the e ink Tablet market. That competition varies depending on where you live in the world. In the US, no one makes a thing that directly competes. I looked at other products, didn't see anything that made me pull out my reMarkable 1 and make a list of pros and cons for comparison.
That isn't to say there isn't a better thing for your use case, but there wasn't for mine.
Final Thoughts
If I didn't drive this point home earlier, I'm going to make it now. The reMarkable 2 will not replace your laptop, mobile OS (iOS/Android) Tablet Device (meant to replace your laptop), or Smartphone. There isn't even a calculator app on the reMarkable 2.
The Remarkable 2 will replace the pens, pencils, highlighters, notebooks, and print outs cluttering up your daily carry bag, desk, and life. It's a digital paper option, not a personal computing option. When used for that purpose, it is exceptional, and well worth the investment.

Utau sakkaku
Okay I'm warning you now my Art is baddddd I'm sure you already saw but I don't draw that much so I don't have much practice...Hey but I tried! Anyways onto my oc thing.
Tumblr media
okay so first off the picture sucks ik ik. It is pretty inaccurate because like I said am bad at drawing so I'll just describe to you what she's supposed to look like. Okay coolio.
I'm also bad at describing I'm trying my best lmao
What she (is supposed to) look like™
Utau is a Carmel skinned female with brown hair, with a stripe of it being purple, she also has deep blue eyes.
Lmao I tried
Her personality™
Utau is a happy go luck girl with strong opinions on weird things. She's mostly secretive and likes to keep to herself. She is pretty distant because of that. She's is also pretty chill and lazy but she's really hard working when she wants to be. She doesn't have many people she considers friends but to those who she dose consider friends are victim to her over dramatic-ness. But it's usually just her trying to joke around. Shes a sarcastic mess who usually wants to apologize but is to afraid to.
Again, I tried.
Her Backstory™
First off her parents are two pretty popular people her mom is a Singer who's quirk grabs the attention of people when she sings and her father is a pro hero who's quirk is illusion, when he looks at someone he can make an illusion that can last up to an hour if he tries really hard. He can make an illusion for just one person or a bunch of people. Though when it's a bunch of people it doesn't last as long.
When her parents got together they kept it a secret if only for privacy. When they had a child they kept it a secret too, for their and their child's privacy. Utau also keeps her parents a secret and tries to change the topic when it's brought up about them.
Before attending U. A utau didn't have many friends but that didn't mean she was bullied. It was the opposite actually, a lot of people found her attractive and she was really popular. People often try to pry into her life because of how secretive she is but they couldn't find out anything about her in the end.
She kept things like her quirk, family (that ones obvious), likes, dislikes, even grades locked up. There was one instance where utau had made a friend. They where someone utau considered a friend but after maybe a month they started giving away personal things about utau.
This bothered her so much she moved schools because of it. When she moved schools she was even more secretive. Almost nobody knew anything about her other than what she looked like.
Soon U. A entrance exams rolled around and utau tried for the heroics course but ended up in gen. Ed. She was devastated about it. Until she talked to her parents about it. Her dad told her that there was still hope. He said he was in general. Ed too before moving over to heroics in the sports festival. With some new found hope utau attended U. A in gen ed.
Her dad trained her the basics of hand to hand combat and how to dodge when he had the time. Until being transfers to heroics from the sports festival.
She made maybe two friends in the hero course after a year but she made a few more the next two years. After graduating from U. A she became a well know hero. And yeah had about as normal as a hero life can go.
Her quirk™
Utau can make an illusion for as long as the song she is singing is. Anyone can become a victim to her illusion as long as they can hear her sing. Downside is she whatever it is she's singing about has to be relevant to whatever she's making an illusion of. Another downside being if she messes up in her song, hits a wrong note, etc whoever is in the illusion snaps out of it and she has to start again but after shes done an illusion once it's hard to do it again, not impossible but definitely difficult.
Her name™
Okay I only made this section to tell you, yes I know how uncreative I am in naming her. In English her name is actually sing illusion, and that's only according to Google translate. And I'm sure we all know how 'amazing' Google translate is... Anyways this is just here to tell you how uncreative I am. I tried.
Tumblr media
That's the sketch BTW if there are spelling mistakes, deal with it. I suck at spelling so. Deal. With. It.

Held in St Nicholas Church, Bramber.
All the work shown is for sale (with one exception) and wherever possible I will include links to the artist’s website or, if they don’t have one, to their page on the Steyning Arts site. Where possible I spoke to the artist about their work but many had taken a well-earned break on what was an extremely hot day.
These photographs are by Wendy Ball who says she take them for her own pleasure and, although she has won a number of prizes, appears not to have a website. Some of them are printed on aluminium which seems to add an extra layer of cold air to the mostly winter scenes. I found the compositions interesting and the colours, but mostly I was taken by the patience necessary to capturing a moving animal in the right spot at the right time,
These acrylics by Mike Kelly, reminded me of stained glass, fractured and with lead partitions between the pieces. I remember making pictures at school using black paper over red and orange tissue pasted onto cartridge to mimic the effect.
These prints are by Andrew Purches who doesn’t seem to have a website. I was drawn to the simplicity of the demarcations in line and colour in these landscapes.
These are by Carol Wagstaff whose work is both prolific and varied. These two are probably not my most preferred in terms of my own likes and dislikes, but I think they represent her artistry. Her instagram account gives a far better idea of her range and includes portraiture and abstracts from her recent humanitarian project currently on exhibition in Shoreham. She describes her work as “Multi Media Artwork encompassing Painting, Sculpture, Installation, Photography and Print.“
These marvelous little textiles are by Jean Griffiths “Textile Art and 2D”. As someone who has no skill or patience with a needle, this kind of work is a challenge too far. I can imagine making them with inks though – dark umber, gold, and orange. This small group is called ‘Fractured Earth’,
the next two, ‘Violet Sunset’ and ‘Seascape’ which are almost collages of fabrics stitched into their composition.
‘Welsh Landscape’ (bottom right) also includes a section of ordnance survey map.
I met John Corballis at last year’s art trail and saw him several times around the village on his bike. I hadn’t known how ill he was, and perhaps he didn’t either at that time, so his death later that year was a shock to all of us. This is a token exhibition of his work in oils – precise, controlled, and detailed which might be expected of a man whose life had been the law.
Tumblr media
Crafty corner! These lovely little pieces are made by Carol Parker using flotsam found on the beach. I find the compositions compelling in their simplicity, balance, and colours.
Tumblr media
These digital photography prints are the work of Andrea Shelton who doesn’t seem to have a presence on the Steyning Arts site. I was attracted like the magpie I am to the bright colours and sense of floating light which reminded me of some of the virtual world environments I have experienced.
Tumblr media
Further round the exhibition I found more of Carol Wagstaff’s work. Simple marks with a core subject. Taking photos through glass doesn’t do them justice.
Sarah Duffield ‘Sussex Landscape Artist and art tutor’, is probably one of our more high profile members with her signature style of non-natural colours and simplified shapes, all derived from local landscapes. She uses her instagram account to post preparatory sketches, often in charcoal, and to talk about her work.
Tumblr media
I love Janet Butterworth‘s tables; in fact I have one next to my TV with a lamp and a sculpture of Alien made with bits of motorcycle parts on it! Janet ‘distresses’ and rescues old furniture by adding mosaics and colour. All of them sound furniture in addition to being things of beauty. Janet was the only artist there to talk to and she was busy fielding questions about possible purchases of other artists’ work on their behalf. We did have a brief chat but I never made the connection between her and the tables as she was down the opposite end of the church from them.
Tumblr media
These are all by Rosalind Landreth who seems able to cover a range from botanical through to photorealistic. Again, glass, reflective in strong light, impairs photographed image,
Tumblr media
I think I would like to make work like these by Alison Millner-Gulland (Mixed media paintings, printmaking and ceramics). Almost cartoons, collaged, a bit abstract but with a message if you can stay to look and read it in there. There’s a lot to look at and so many interesting marks on her various supports. I’m interested in the frames too – how do people choose? How do you find the right one for each piece?
Tumblr media
Lino prints by Melissa Birch, ‘Linoprint Artwork and Design’. I have to confess no idea at all how these works are made, my only experience being carving out channels in chunks of old lino at school, plastering the surface with poster paint, and slapping them onto paper to finally reveal an acorn or a spider or whatever we thought we had marked out. I suspect the operation is more sophisticated than that and I should ask – Melissa lives only a couple of hundred yards from me.
Jill Blake – ‘Water Colour and Acrylic Painting‘ – makes originals and prints of natural scenes, objects, and animals. I forget what she calls the technique used in the picture of teasels (bottom left) but it involves leakage.
Tumblr media
Finally, these are by Karen Corballis, widow of John. She describes her work as ‘Mixed Media, Oil, Water Colour and Print Making’. The one I like best is a landscape of trees in a left-to-right, background-to-midground composition done in vibrant summer greens and yellows with a slash of dark trunks marking the line, and a sliver of sky above. It’s on her Steyning Arts website.

Anon said:SHINSOU KAMI AND KIRI ARE THE MOST PRECIOUST BOYS WHO WE MUST PROTECT
None of these strong amazing boys actually needs protecting but is that gonna stop me from trying? Is it?? (the answer is no)
Anon said:Hi! If you haven't already answered this, would you mind listing the tags/ships you aren't comfortable with people tagging your art with?
Ohhhhhh what an interesting ask, I’ve been thinking about how to answer since I got it and?? I’m not sure, so let’s put it like this: generally, if the art is obviously meant as platonic I’d prefer it if you didn’t use the ship tag on it, but as a general rule I don’t actually mind people tagging ships anyway? I know how this site works so if I’m really uncomfortable with the idea of it being misinterpreted as romantic I’m just not gonna post anything with those characters in it from the start
That said, sometimes people tagging ships confuses me a lot??? For example the majority of people who’ve reblogged my latest bnha comic have tagged it with the bkdk tag and? There’s nothing romantic about it?? Bakugou is literally off to kill Deku why is that romantic we just don’t know, bkdk shippers seem to have an understanding of romance completely different from mine haha
Ah, also I’ve been having people tagging my bokuro and akaken arts with the ot4 tag, even if I rarely ever draw all of them in the same place. Please don’t do that. Like. Seriously.
As for the general tags, there’s a lot of tags I don’t understand, but from there to saying I’m uncomfortable with them is a bit of a huge step... the one thing that comes to mind is people trigger-tagging Bakugou’s mom. That’s. Hm. I happen to really like that woman and my drawings depict her in a positive light always, so if people could stop that it would be very nice? That’s about it tho~
Anon said: Bakugou smiling omg bless your soul
!!!!!!!!!!!!! Smiling Bakugou is a happy Bakugou and happy Bakugou is a happy Fran so you can 100% expect more of it 👍👍
Anon said:I'm rooting for Kacchan as his hero name. I feel like it would be a huge step personality wise for Katsuki, just like 'Deku' was for Izuku. I feel like they might become civil with each other and hopefully even friends. For Shouto it would be amazing if he could find a name that shows he's accepted who he is but that he isn't a prisoner of his blood...... even though I have no idea how to show that with a name lol
Ah, I’m sure in the future Bakugou and Izuku will be on civil terms, but here’s the thing anon. Deku was a name with a negative connotation given to Izuku the degrade him - someone Izuku holds dear changed the meaning for him, made it something positive, and Izuku took the name back and made it his own, like a phoenix reborn from its ashes. It was a positive thing because it used to be a negative one, you follow me? It also didn’t have anything to do with Bakugou. Izuku took that name away from him, he didn’t accept Deku as a name to show some sort of positive change in his relationship with Bakugou, it was more about him cutting Bakugou of a source of power he had over him. It was distancing himself from Bakugou, not growing closer
Kacchan doesn’t have anything like that tied to it, it’s just a childish name Izuku has been using since he was four, most probably because everyone used to call Bakugou that - Bakugou doesn’t actually care for the name, or else he would have found a way to make Izuku stop using it. He doesn’t like it, but he doesn’t actively dislike it either, he just does not care, right? So there’s no way him accepting it as the way the whole world knows him as would be some sort of positive change for him, imho
What I meant when I said that I really hope it doesn’t happen is that all it would be for Bakugou is just yet another smack on the growing list of things gone wrong for him - there’s no way Bakugou would willingly accept such a childish name as his hero name just for the hell of it, one thing is growing up and a whole other thing is him making a 180° on his personality like that. So, like, I really don’t want it to happen because I want Bakugou for once to have things go as he wishes, but considering the amount of times the narrative has punished Bakugou and how often his plans have gone on the opposite direction compared to what he was working for, would I be surprised if that choice too were to be taken from him? Absolutely not
As for Todoroki, as I said I have never spent time thinking about his hero name? I kind of assumed he actually wanted to be known as Shouto, but you really never know with him! His character is always going in directions I don’t expect one bit, so his hero name too, if it comes, is probably gonna be something I hadn’t seen coming at all haha
Anon said:THE TAGS ON THAT LAST BAKUSHIMA KILLED ME THATS SO SWEET AND IT ALSO MADE SENSE AND I LOVE THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE THING THANK YOU FOR BLESSING ME WITH THAT YOU AND YOUR ART ARE INCREDIBLE I HOPE YOU'RE HAVING A LOVELY DAY
Anon said:I love your ring hc for that last post omg it's perfect
OHHHHHHHHHH I’M GLAD YOU BOTH LIKED IT!!!! I hope you’re having the best days too!!!!!!!
Anon said:dude, your art output is simply incredible, you post something pretty much every single day, and its not even just single pictures, its comics! with lots of poses! and anatomy! ahhh, bless you, youre a gift!!! A GIFT!!! your comics are adorable and funny and so in-character u
Thank you!!!!!!!!! So much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my gODS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Annnnnndddddddddddddddddddd.............. actually............... I kind of............................. not do much aside from drawing................................. r i p
(The thing is that I draw to make myself feel happy when I’m sad. I’m. Always sad. So.)
Anon said: Fran why are people shipping Todoroki with Kaminari ? i mean the pics are nice but i was wondering if there was an interaction between them ?
They were on the same team during the cavalry battle! And!! That’s about it!!! Horikoshi has doodled them together now and again in his twitter sketches but as far as canon goes that should be the only significant interaction they’ve had. I don’t mind the ship? They could be cute, but I don’t exactly ship it. Then again I lowkey ship Todoroki with Sero so who am I to talk
Anon said:Ao3 dealing with a wildcard
I don’t!!! Understand this ask!!! Anon help me out please!!!
Anon said:BRO, that last comic with Bakugou's hero name is PRICELESS! I know you said you actually would prefer him to have a cool name, but could you imagine if this happened in cannon?! I would DIE of laughter! Or worse, imagine if Bakugou did end up with the hero name Ground Zero, but everyone in the public decides to call him Kacchan ANYWAYS, because it's adorable and if deku can call him that, then why shouldn't anyone else? XD I just can't!
Bakugou spending the rest of his life trying to make people use his actual hero name and failing miserably is the single most rational and canon comment I’ve gotten about that comic I’m not even gonna lie hahahaha
Anon said:As soon as I finished reading your Teacher!Bakugou post, I couldn't help but think of that meme/twitter compilation. The one where the teacher is going over safety procedures only for the students to show how much they love their teacher. Like, one student says they'll avenge Bakugou if he ends up getting hurt while another says they'll go after the perpetrator's kids. This idea is gold~!
The problem here is that I can’t really see Bakugou giving a straight “no you can’t do that” answer to those suggestions oh my god what a disaster lmao
Anon said:I just wanted to say that I love your terushimas and your bokuroos and especially your kiribakus (actually the hole bakusquad) and that I'd love to see tokoyami more in your art style (as he's my fav in bnha)
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! More Tokoyami is definitely coming!!! I love him so much and he’s so much fun to draw!!!!!!!!!!!
Anon said:Hey! I love your art, seeing it on my dash always makes me happy! I'm sorry you have people demanding things from you and not respecting your work, you don't deserve that
Anon you’re so sweet onot fine but I’m used to it? Sadly. Haha.

Heyyyy so I love Mark and Jack's videos but I've seen so many things about their multiple personalities and I'm... I'm so confused 😅 Is there any way to briefly explain their personalities or are there videos they made that will explain it? And how much is fandom headcanon and how much is "canon"? Thanks :)
Hey! Wow, this is kind of a big question, ahah. Mark and Jack have quite a lot of ‘egos’ and some of them have a longer history than others.
I’ll attempt to give a brief summary of the most prominent / well-known egos. At the bottom, I’ve linked to a really helpful masterpost with every video where each character has appeared!
Markiplier:
Wilford Warfstache is a bizarre, trigger-happy reporter/journalist who tends to leave a trail of bodies wherever he goes. His signature pink mustache has been part of Mark’s logo and brand for a long time. He first appeared in 2012 in some comedy sketches where he was interviewing Slenderman. He has since interviewed the Phone Guy from FNAF and Markiplier (who he killed mid-interview but seemed not to comprehend that he did so). There are also two sketches centered around his character, “The Warfstache Affair” and “The Ned Affair,” which could be seen as a backstory.
Darkiplier actually began as a fan theory / fandom-created character after Mark made some uncharacteristically creepy videos (’don’t blink’, ‘don’t move,’ etc). Since then, fans would speculate and add to his fanon anytime Mark seemed to act darker than usual. He has always been seen as Mark’s evil alter-ego, though specific theories varied wildly. Over time, Mark himself became aware of the character and disliked him at first, even making a video mocking the idea of Dark as just an edgy emo. After that, though, he decided to seriously take the character into his own hands, and he produced “A Date With Markiplier,” which includes a Darkiplier route. To sum him up, he’s Mark’s opposite in every way: 100% manipulative, controlling, terrifying, angry, and pretty much the worst asshole you’d ever have the misfortune of meeting. It should also be noted that he doesn’t control Mark, but is his own being. He’s merely taken his shape because he envies the influence and audience Mark has and wants that kind of power for himself. (All of this has been confirmed by Mark during a livestream.)
Googleplier / GoogleIRL is essentially a Google device in humanoid robot form, with an insatiable hunger to destroy mankind. He was originally Matthias’ idea. “Google IRL” and “Google Gets an Upgrade” are the vids you’ll want to watch.
The Author was the main villain in a two-part Cyndago series titled “Danger in Fiction.” Whatever The Author wrote or narrated would happen, and he used his powers to control real, living people until his characters fought back.
The Host was the Author, but he is now blind and softly narrates to himself. Mark said in one comment that the Author changed his name when he realized he was only a spectator to the events around him. Almost nothing is known about him or how he became this way. Any ideas you see going around about him are pure speculation / fanon.
Bim Trimmer, Dr. Iplier, Ed Edgar, and Silver Shepherd are all “minor” egos that each have their own origin sketch. These, along with the four “big” personalities mentioned above, all appeared in Markiplier TV a few months ago. This is the first time we’ve seen multiple egos interact with each other in a big way, and Mark has said there is more to come. As with the Host, much of what you see on tumblr is fanon since we don’t have a whole lot to go on.
Jacksepticeye:
Antisepticeye is to Jack what Darkiplier is to Mark, an evil alter-ego. He also originated in the fandom, because one evil Youtuber wasn’t enough I guess :P It wasn’t until last year that Jack started to own the character himself. In October, he started adding strange glitches/edits in videos and dropping hints on social media with more and more frequency until Anti made a full appearance on Halloween in “SAY GOODBYE”. He is chaotic and corrosive; I don’t think he has a body of his own but is more like a virus who exists only online. There are some more popularly accepted headcanons, some of which Jack has confirmed, but there’s much we still don’t know about this character. (I have a feeling Jack scrolls the tags and reads through theories until he goes “ooh, I’mma use that!” haha) Recently, Jack’s been hinting more and more at Anti returning (or that he has already returned in some way), much to the terrified excitement of the fandom.
Henrik von Shcneeplestein / Dr. Schneeple is a surgeon who is really bad at his job tbh (’: it’s been theorized recently that Anti has controlled or corrupted him in some way.
Chase Brody was originally a satire of youtubers like Dude Perfect (see “Teabag Edition | Bro Average”), but he and Dr. Schneeple have recently been at the center of some very concerning Anti theories. here is an amazing post summing up what’s been going on with both of them, though it’s 3 weeks old and more has happened since.
And finally, here is the amazing masterpost with links to all pertinent videos (including those of minor egos I haven’t mentioned here): https://them1nd-fantheories.tumblr.com/post/163062751375/i-have-gathered-all-the-ego-videos-i-am-aware-of
Phew, well, I did say I’d attempt to keep it brief… (’: I hope this helps!! There is kind of a lot of content to catch up on, so I apologize. Have fun spiraling down the rabbit hole with the rest of us~ and if you have any more questions about specific characters, let me know and I’ll do my best to answer!

Monkey  Business
my OCs Operative Zero and Monkey in a vaguely superhero universe.
“May I have this dance?”
Helen pulled herself away from a mental assessment of the ballroom, filing the number of exits and blind spots away in the back of her mind. She turned slowly, allowing a smile to form just as slowly. Simply snapping into a cheerful expression would seem as genuine as a twenty dollar bill with Washington's face on it. So instead she made a subtle show of someone being called out of a thoughtful silence, shifting her untouched drink to one hand so she could push back a few strands of hair. Slightly flustered, but not embarrassed. A touch of humanity, a small flaw to keep her from seeming aloof.
“Thank you,” she said, smile still only halfway complete, “I prefer not to dance.”
“Oh, really?” the man said with a sigh, “I suppose that you have zero interest in dancing?”
Helen's incomplete smile dropped away. For a moment she let the intricate facade of charming socialite drop and diverted all her energy to assessing the man—the possible threat—standing in front of her.
He was tall. That made Helen immediately dislike him since she had to lean her head back to look up at his face and ruin her poised posture. The man stood at ease, hands clasped behind his back, hand tipped to one side while he waited for her to answer. A curl at the corner of his lips and a spark in his eyes indicated his emphasis on the word zero had not been a coincidence.
That much confirmed, Helen made a brief note of other details. He was tall, slim, relaxed, had a head of thick but completely white hair even though he couldn't have been more than forty, his dark face sketched only with faint laugh lines. Clothing was stylish and tailored, otherwise unexceptional. He stood at ease. Light. There was the air of a dancer or athlete about him.
“Yes,” Helen murmured, bringing her drink to her lips to hide the abrupt changes in her expressions, “you might say that. Mr. . . .?”
“Kyle,” the man said with an easy grin, “Kyle Lucian. Bored millionaire and collector of antiquities and odd things.”
“Oh, yes,” Helen said, offering her hand “you're opening an exhibit of some of your treasures.”
“Of African and African American history,” Lucian said, looking like he was laughing at some private joke, “and you are Miss Helen Pickerton, the beauty of high society.”
Helen felt that losing a little of her smile after that remark was only natural. Even when she had been a fresh girl of twenty she had never been a great beauty. At thirty-eight she might have been called, at a stretch, handsome. People said she had 'good bone structure'. Perhaps her skull was exceptional. No one would ever compliment the scars she had from breaking her left upper arm in three places, or the metal plate in her ankle. Only a skillful and scrupulous application of makeup kept the scars on her face hidden.
Now this Kyle Lucian was throwing false praise at her, as if a woman needed to be constantly validated by some random's man appraisal of her physical appearance.
“Hardly, Mr. Lucian--”
“Call me Kyle,” Lucian said, still holding Helen's hand. He had shaken it and then retained it, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles in an overly familiar way. And he still looked like he was laughing at her.
“Call me Miss Pickerton,” Helen replied, removing her hand, “CEO of Keyhole Enterprises and nothing near a beauty.”
“You're too modest, Helen--”
“If you insist on complimenting me, Mr. Lucian, please try to infuse them with some truth.”
“Well, then I shall praise your skillful rebuilding of your company after it crashed under your brother's care. It has become an operation head and shoulders above all others. Innovative, cutting-edge, caring. Your patents for improved motorcycle helmets have probably saved hundreds of lives.”
Operation.
Helmet.
Laughing, still laughing. Who was he to be playing and hinting with such significance? He knew, he must know and he was toying with her. Playing with her. If she was dressed for work, helmet and all, she would have been able to knock him down and drag him away for questioning. He was a leak, and her agreement with the authorities let her investigate leaks in her operation. She could also call one of her team to take him in, but then it would all be associated with her, Helen Pickerton, and perhaps confirm things he only had suspicions of.
“That's better,” Helen said, “those are things I'm actually proud of.”
“Aren't you proud of your makeup job, too?” Lucian leaned forward to look at her face.
Helen restrained herself from flinching. He couldn't see the scars. There was no way he could see the scars . . .
Her breath stopped when he tapped her chin with a well-manicured finger.
Right on the scar she had gotten when the chin guard of her helmet had cracked and the criminal she had been pursuing punched the jagged edge right into her face. Her comm had been smashed and after she had subdued and cuffed the criminal she had been too dizzy to mount her bike. It had been lucky that--
“C'mon,” Lucian grabbed her by the hand and pulled her toward the dance floor, “let's dance!”
“Wait!”
“No time like now!”
Helen caught up the train of her dress, wishing she had worn something other than this confining turquoise mess of glittering beads.
“I love your dress,” Lucian said, sweeping her into a ballroom dancing hold and into a waltz, showing that he was as light on his feet as he looked, “Chinese pattern, right? It suits you. I mean, I think you look best in black and white, but I'm biased.”
Helen was trying very hard not to make a scene by flipping Lucian over her shoulder and stabbing the heel of her shoe into his neck. She followed his lead in the dance, moving every bit as smoothly as him and wishing he didn't hold her . . . Well, it wasn't exactly inappropriate. It was a very respectable dancing hold and he wasn't trying to feel her up or pull her into a tight hold. He just held her so comfortably. And it almost felt comfortable to her.
“Stop playing coy,” Helen said sweetly, her expression open and friendly to anyone who was looking. No one could see her driving one dark-blue fingernail into Lucian's hand.
“You're going to draw blood,” Lucian said without losing the tempo of the music, “I really love the way your dress swirls, by the way. Must be all that practice with your cape.”
“I am going to break your finger unless you tell me who you are right now.”
“I promised I would take you dancing,” Lucian said, smiling brightly even when Helen's fingernail about to puncture his palm, “Finally, our first real date. It's not a real date if we spend all of it jumping over rooftops and punching crime in the jaw.”
Helen's hand flew up to her chin, touching her scar.
She had been about to lose consciousness, slumped over her bike with her chin split open and her head spinning, but Monkey had been there. He had come bouncing back, dragging the first man's accomplice with him, spouting wisecracks and witticisms with all his usual careful joviality. Then he had gone quiet. She didn't remember him talking after that. She didn't remember much but being dizzy and sick, just that Monkey had picked her up and she had felt safe.
A ridiculous, frivolous cat-burglar in an African style monkey mask, who hung around incessantly, wiggling into her operations, making himself useful, flirting shamelessly and not at all abashed at being rebuffed.
“Monkey,” she said, still caught in the turning of the melody.
“Operative Zero,” Monkey said with a nod of his head, as if being formally introduced. He spun Helen out and then pulled her back in, “I'm so glad I came. I never come to boring rich people parties. But then I saw a gorgeous lady with a distinctive posture and a familiar set of lips. It's really a shame your helmet only shows your mouth, because I am enthralled by your eyes.”
Helen had a lot of things to say. None of them were suitable for asking out in the open. Instead she asked, “Don't tell me I was that easy to spot.”
“Stop smiling, lovely, it's unnatural. Where’s the deadpan vigilante of the night that I know so well?”
“I'm not a vigilante. If I was then I wouldn't have been able to persuade the authorities that it wasn't worth wasting the manpower on forming a taskforce to track you down.”
“I always thought that was very sweet of you.”
“You did return the stolen items, after all.”
“My love for you put my feet back on the path of righteousness.”
“Answer my question.”
“I wasn't sure if it was you, so I threw out a few lures. You are a divine dancer. We're going dancing twice a week from now on. You just . . . move like you.”
“Like this?”
They were dancing past an open door. Helen took over leading and swung Lucian neatly through the door and out of sight of the chattering, glittering crowds. He reeled a little bit until he found the wall.
“Whew, like that!” He agreed, sliding down to sit on the floor, leaning his head to the side again to watch Helen's face, “Yes, that's much better. I've always imagined you had a little line between your eyes when you looked at me like that. And you do!”
“What are you going to do with this information?”
“What, knowing your first name? Well, it'll be nice to have something to put on the card when I send you flowers. And to know where to pick you up when I want to take you out on the town. I promise not to drop by without calling ahead. I might be flippant but I'm not rude.”
Helen would have dropped her head into her hands if she hadn't been worrying about her makeup. Instead she gathered up handfuls of her beaded skirt and crushed them under her clenched fingers.
No one was supposed to know who Operative Zero was. An information leak like this could be disastrous to her operation, to her family. People would know where to send their hate, their bombs, know who to target to bring down the organization. There were be panic. The operatives would worry that their own identities were in jeopardy. The political opposition would seize this leak and blow it out of proportion, everything would--
“Hey, now,” Monkey gently tugged the skirt out of her hands. She was almost used to that sort of thing, he did it so often. Straightening her cape, poking her shoulder to get her attention, clasping her hand in another dramatic profession of love, “You think I'm going to go tell the whole world?”
“Maybe.”
“Not a chance, sweet. We're exclusive.”
“Let me guess, I have to go out with you or you'll post my secret identity on twitter.”
“Whoa!” Monkey bounced to his feet, curving himself sideways to get on eye level with Helen, “I'm madly in love with you, not insanely obsessed! Okay, well, I am crazy about you, yes, but not in that way.”
“You did just force me to dance.”
“I just tricked you into going with the flow. What's a little hoodwinking between friends? Or lovers, for that matter?”
“You're not being very convincing.”
Nonetheless, Helen's hands were relaxing and the tension in her shoulders easing. She couldn't help it. She trusted Monkey. They'd been through too much for her not to. There he was, being himself, twisting himself around and beaming at her with a smile she had never seen before. She'd heard the sound of it in his voice, but she had never seen it.
She thought she might like it.
“Something I love about you—aside from everything—is that there might not be much expression on your face, but if I watch I can see it all anyway,” Monkey swung around on his heel, taking in the small room they were in, “Sometimes I can see you smile even when you're face is solemn. Something about how your shoulders loosen.”
“You're ridiculous. You're saying that knowing who I am doesn't change anything?”
“Of course. Now I can see your eyes. That's life-changing. They are peerless pieces of polished jade.”
“Haven't you considered that I now know who you are? I could give your name to the police and have you arrested.”
“Angel, you would never.”
Helen crossed her arms.
“. . . would probably never?”
“Can't you ever be serious?”
“Only about you.”
Helen tried to ignore the strange little jump her heart made.
“Did you steal that from a movie?”
“Probably. But can't you hear the clear ring of truth in it anyway?” Monkey refrained from grabbing her hand again, holding his out, “Oh, you fantastically beautiful, ruthless hero of the night, I've loved you ever since you kicked me through two display cases. It might have been a different story if that had been genuine African pottery instead of replicas, but let's not dwell.”
“You pushed me out a third story window.”
“And caught you! What are superhuman reflexes for if not to save your true love?”
“Yes, about that--”
“Oh, there's plenty of time to tell you my backstory later. I look forward to hearing yours, to be sure. Right now, though, we both have the night off and there is music to step to. How about a breakfast date to hash out everything and tonight we pretend we are two ordinary millionaires who have never jumped off a building and onto a moving vehicle in our lives?”
Helen was sure she should have been fighting off a headache by now.
But she wasn't.
“My ankle hurts.”
“Oh?” Monkey's eyes darted down to the hem of Helen's skirt, “I didn't step on your foot, did I? Because that would be unforgivable.”
“No, I just have a metal plate in it and these heels throw everything out of alignment.”
“Goodness, that's no good. No more dancing tonight?”
“Well . . . maybe just one,” Helen held out her hand.
Monkey took it, a delighted grin glowing on his face, “I knew I'd wear you down. But, no, no way am I allowing you to dance. You're going home and putting a hot towel on your ankle. And, if you'll allow me, I'm going to sweep you off your feet.”
“What--?”
“I'm going to pick you up and carry you lovingly like the precious treasure you are. I would just surprise you, but I don't want to be flipped over your shoulder. Again.”
Helen considered this while Monkey attentively watched her impassive face.
It had been awhile since Helen Pickerton had done anything disgraceful. She never did anything ruinous, but just something for people to talk about and make them think they knew what was behind the mask of the powerful businesswoman. Being carried out after having a little too much to drink . . . that about fit the bill.
“I am going to get another drink and then stumble over a potted plant,” Helen brushed her dress off.
“I get to heroically rescue you?”
“Only because it would cause too much attention if I rescued you.”
“Darling, you're marvelous.”
“Then we're going to my apartment and talking about all this.”
“Can I swing by my place to pick up the small volume of poetry I have written about you? I have a whole series about how the light glints off your helmet.”
“We're talking about the repercussions of you finding out my identify. That is all. Potted plant. Five minutes. Be there.”
“How big of a an interior floral decoration do you need to trip over before I get to kiss you?”
“Business, Monkey. Business.”
“You said monkey business.”
“I'm calling the police department.”
“Okay, okay. Only business, no monkey business. See you in five,” Monkey ducked his head and kissed her cheek, dancing out of the way before she could strike at him.
“Monkey!”
Monkey batted his eyes at her.
Helen left before he could see the blush coloring her cheeks.

Ideas and Sketchbook Work for YCA Project
08.03.19
For my YCA project, I plan to create a graphic novel cover with Big Ben and the Queen on the cover design. Though there is no theme this year, I have decided to still do something that represents England, so I think that those two things are perfect for this. It will be the first volume of the series, so I want to make sure I entice people and make them want to read the story right off the bat. Big Ben will be in the background while the Queen will be more in the foreground, though not centered. I probably won’t have the focus on Big Ben, since I want to mainly demonstrate my illustrative skills. I plan to create Big Ben in Adobe Illustrator, since it is comprised of a lot of lines and geometrical shapes. If I were to draw Big Ben in a drawing program like Clip Studio, I feel I won’t be able to make it look good since I’m not too confident in my landscape or architectural illustration skills.
Sketchbook Work
The angle at which Big Ben will be at is from a worm’s eye view—opposite of a bird’s eye view, so everything from the bottom will be bigger until it reaches the top which will be the smallest point of the tower in this case. Big Ben will be in front of a nice blue sky with some clouds spread out throughout the composition. I also think that a lens flare could look good behind the tower, to imply that there is the sun behind it. This will be done in Photoshop once I’ve created the design in Illustrator. You can see the illustration of Big Ben below. Along with Big Ben however, is the Queen, just as a profile shot. She of course won’t be this big in the final composition (I don’t think so at least), since I want to showcase Big Ben too. If I fail to create something I like, then sure, I’ll make the Queen bigger, but if I am actually pleased with how it turns out, then I will want to show that off too, therefore having to mess around with sizes. The pencil illustration below of the Queen is something I did in my general art style by looking at different reference images of her on Google. It doesn’t look exactly like her, but I think that you still get the idea that it is her. Though when it comes to doing the illustration in Clip Studio, I will try my best to get her to look like the actual Queen. I’m not completely sure which style I will be going with, whether it be simple or a painty-realism kind of style, I am leaning towards a bit of both to be honest.
Tumblr media
Below are some initial sketches and some notes talking about my ideas. The colour palette that I thought about would consist of a red, blue and white, like the Union Jack. The Queen would probably be wearing something red—or the title that I will eventually come up with will be written in red. The sky would be a nice blue, and there will be some white clouds. These drawings of the Queen somehow look more like her than the drawing I spent more time on above does.
The top image (top right in this case) is the original cover design I had in mind would look (excluding the Queen). It looks relatively the same as how I drew the better version above. The title will most likely be at the top, and the volume number somewhere, probably below the title. The bottom illustration is maybe how it would look if there were no Big Ben, or at least, the Queen was obstructing it too much. I think that this drawing of the Queen best looks like her, so when it comes to illustrating her in Clip Studio, I may look to this for a good reference.
Tumblr media
Ideas for the Story
When it comes to the actual story behind the graphic novel, I am not sure what I want to convey just yet. One idea is that it could just be about the current state of the UK, but I dislike politics so I may want to stay away from that, that and I just don’t understand it well enough to be able to come up with a good story—not that I’m writing an actual story for this anyway. Another idea is that it could be about the Queen’s life—of course I don’t know what she does, but I could come up with some kind of entertaining plot that involves her tending to important matters in her way. She would only be on the cover of the first volume, since she is a prominent figure—so other characters would be added to the story, like the Duke and Duchess maybe, various celebrities or whatever, and take future volume cover illustrations. I could make it a comedy of some kind, with the Queen and various other established people. Perhaps future volumes would be centered on different countries and people. I’m sure it would be pretty amusing to see Donald Trump or Kim Jong Un on a graphic novel cover. Maybe some of the gags would include them fighting over nukes. Another idea proposed by my tutor is that I could have the series focus on addressing the news—in an attempt to get younger people to read it more often. If they saw it portrayed in a graphic novel, they would perhaps be more inclined to read about the news.
Final Idea
I think that the idea that I’m most inclined to go with is the bottom two ideas from above—so, to teach the youth about the news, while also including humour, so, a political comedy...? That must be the biggest oxymoron since ‘jumbo shrimp’. The ‘news’ that I’ve been referring to should also mean things that have happened in the recent decade or so, so I guess it could also teach people about the past. I don’t think there would be enough interesting things happening in the news where I could create en entire graphic novel series about it. That, and I obviously don’t know what is going on in the daily news over in America and certainly not North Korea—but, does anyone know what’s going on in North Korea? (This was in reference to me mentioning Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un earlier).
Actual Final Idea
28.03.19
Okay, so I said that the above would be the final idea, but I think that I want to change the story completely to fit the cover more. I know that it would usually be a bad idea to change the story after so long, but as I am not actually writing a story for this book, I feel more inclined to go with something else, especially since after looking at the cover and title, I realize that neither looks comedic or satirical in the slightest, so I need to revise the plot, ideally. The idea that I feel more comfortable with now would be a more serious story that focuses on the Queen’s life, and the people surrounding her. The Queen’s smiling face on the front cover will only serve as a facade to cover up a more dark story about the Queen and the goings on behind the UK. Of course, the story would be entirely fictional and not based upon any real life stories—I wouldn’t want to unleash any dark secrets about the Queen or the UK. I think that the story will start with a young Queen Elizabeth, and will kind of progress as a coming-of-age story where she faces various difficult choices and situations until she inevitably becomes the ruler of England. Yeah, I think that works much better than telling the news, after all, that’s not really what graphic novels are intended for.
Title Ideas
21.03.19
As for title ideas, I’m sort of dry on those. Perhaps something including the words: world, worldwide, globe, global, happening, events, times, affairs, etc. The title probably won’t be something boring, like “World Events” though, maybe it will be a kind of humorous title, even a question of some kind. Some that I’ve thought of: Worldwide Happening, Global Occurrences, The World, Happening, International Instances. I kind of like ‘The World, Happening’ for some reason.
25.03.19
As the April Fools’ Day deadline (I hope it isn’t just some prank) approaches, an idea that I just came up with is “We Interrupt this Life!”, this one is interesting, but maybe a bit of a stretch, my thoughts are that it’s common in television shows that a message like “we interrupt this program...” will show up on the screen when something big happens, so because my aim is to tell the news through comedic and/or satirical means, I think that this would be a fitting title. I chose the word ‘life’ because it is referring to the reader, and how the book is—well, going to interrupt their life if they choose to read on. The word could be substituted for a more suitable choice, but for what, I do not know right now. Maybe even “We Interrupt Your Life!”, but then it kind of just looks like an overly-aggressive marketing advertisement. I have to think about how this would look on the actual cover too, I think it would be good to have two words on the same line and two below—they would also be stylized so that they are not completely uniform, and a bit uneven. Another one that I just came up with is “Six O’Clock!”, this one could really be a stretch, but it is in reference to generally the most common time at which news is broadcast worldwide, to my knowledge (might be 10 actually). I’m unlikely to choose this one, but it’s out there.
28.03.19
After considering it and messing around with how it looks on the cover, “We Interrupt this Life!” just isn’t very good—I said it aloud, and it just sounded stupid in all honesty. The title that I will most likely be going with will simply be “British Times”. It’s the best I can think of, and it fits with the cover (British Times - Big Ben in the background, a clock). I will also most likely scrap the idea that future volumes would be taking place in other countries, mainly so that this title idea will work, but also because I wouldn’t be knowledgeable about other countries enough to write an imaginary story about them.

Is very shy and wary of strangers but once you get to know him he can be raver snarky and sarcastic. ----My description---- (mine) Hi im gradient and this is my story When i was born error was still the destroyer and ink the creator heck back then fresh was they protector but that's besides the point. I was born as you would expect in the anti void and neither new the outside world or the love of a parent. Error tried to kill me when he found out called me a glitch and as for ink he tried to look after me but everytime he sore error in me he would snap its never safe when they were together so i hid under tables and beds. When i was 7 i almost had a family ink and error came together and tried to raise me but it didn't last. They were yelling and breaking things i tried to stop them but ink struck me for the first time i ran to my room and started crying. I remember a surge of magic run through me as i started to create my first and only portel the floor glitched and polled me though i remember seeing there sad and desperate faces as they tried to teach me but it was too late. I woke up in the bata void and stayed there in that white abyss of 10 years until error found me again. I watched from my screen error and ink create a new family relaxing me with paperjam so i was reluctant at first there was so much i didn't know until i found bluescreen He's my half brother on errors side his dad is blueberry now let me tell you me and blue screen meet them and was fanboying all over the place i mean come on there the originals the most strongest people in the multiverse they like celebrities not to mentchen we ship everything we see and crash god we're nerds though i guess its also has to have something to do with the fact we had near to 0 contact to the outside world are entire lives. Were like twins it's amazing i found him in the files and brought him with me i also have another half brother his name is pallet on inks side his dad is drem pallet is in love with are cusin goth who is the son of death and geno geno and fresh snd are uncles by the way on errors side and we love them but not as much as paperjam loves fresh. Paper Jam is my little bit bluescreens older brother he was born of ink and error he never had to prove himself to them and they traded him like a son on day one so i guess you can say i feel envy for him but i love him and will protect him to my last breath. ---Gradients Lalaby--- (mine) safe and sound we wait in silence with nothing but are ink, with No one there to harm or hurt us, is in silence that we think, though time mean not, ill wait for you to hold you closs agine, for now im free ill keep you safe, and stare at the stares agine... ---Gradients Story--- (mine) Prologue Nothing is what I see. Silence is what I hear. Numbness is what I feel. Trapped in this never ending void of white is where I stay, alone and afraid. And yet, I’ve never been safer. I’m a glitch you see, an ERroR A BeInG ThAt ShOuLdn’T EXIST! Or at least that’s what I’ve been told, heck my own mother thinks I’m a mistake, welts my father tried to kill me more times than I can count. I do not blame them though it is their nature to hate me after all. I guess I have to explain, my father is called Error or the destroyer, and he is the one that goes around destroying AUs or alternate universes and as expected where there is Destruction there is also Creation. That’s where mom comes in, his name is Ink and yes I know but Gray how do to mails have kids, and there is a good answer to that as well, . . . Magic. Anyways ink is the one that creates the au’s in order to keep the balance. They are the opposite of one another, yin and yang, good and evil, wells one destroys another Protects and like everyone in this situation, they hate each other and fight whenever they meet. It was these two that created me. Half Destroyer. Half Creator. I am nothing compared to them, should I chose to protect in the end there’s not much my kind can do… Ten years I’ve been stuck in this empty void with nothing but my ink, dolls and creators pen, I cannot leave nor can I call for help. . . after all I doubt anyone remembers that I ever existed for who could ever love a glitch. The Escape I sit on the floor of the Bata Voids staring into the empty space of white, all knowledge of the outside world has forever been lost two mw, excepted for two things. “My name is Gradient and this doll in my hand is Error, my dad and one day he will find me, but why do I know that?…” I close my eyes as I try to think, a faint memory comes to mine or perhaps just a dream for something this beautiful could never exist is a world of white, a place filled with glittering lights and the face of a man I long to see. It was his voids I remember most, a song he sang to help me sleep once, if I remember correctly I became ill and he never left my side, for some reason I always wanted to know why he bothered if I’m just another glitch to him. But it was in this action that gives me some hope of escaping this hell. After all no matter where I hid or tried to run away, he would always find me. I get up for a split second before collapsing to the floor agile, all feeling in my legs are gone. I stare blankly as the ink that I tipped in my moment of carelessness and watch as the pitch black liquid engulfs the pure white floor. Tears begin to fall down my face as I try everything in my power to stay sane, I close my eyes as I began to sing the very same lullaby that man used to sing all thoughts years ago. “Safe and sound we wait in silent with nothing but are ink. With no one there to harm or hurt us in silence that we think. Though time means not I’ll wait for you to hold you close again. For now I’m free I’ll keep you safe and stare at the stares again…” A memory comes to me as I stare at my glitches hands. My father holding me close as he cry’s into my shoulder, repeating the same words as I glitch into this white abyss. “I don’t know where you’ll be but, I promise, I will find you and when I do will stare at the stares again for all long as you wish, I’m so sorry my so-” I never did get to hear the end of what he was gone say next. I sigh as I pull out my creator’s pen to see the worlds I’ve been dreading for years. “Low battery, exactly the two worlds I didn’t want to see right now.” I close my eyes as a glitches portal opened up in front of me. It was at that moment I know I was finally free. Chapter Three Lost child It was a normal day when I first learned about him, you see my name is Geno or as some might know me as Aftertale sans I am originally from a genocide run so I get kinda triggered from certain comments. Anyways as I was saying it was like any other day, on this day I was visiting my brother error and his wife? Husband…. Ima says wife ya that sounds right so anyways I was visiting my brother at his house in the anti-void. Now you might be wondering, what's the anti-void, well it's like the void but white. Though seriously the anti-void is a big white endless space that error resided alone. Now a daze it's much more noisy. You see in the past error used to be known as the destroyer of the AUs but that was before he met ink, sure they fought a lot and tried to kill each other but know they're inseparable. Ink and error fell in love and like any love story they got married and had a kid named paper jam, I for one like Paperjam he's a cute kid though I find it weird how he has a crush on my brother who is his uncle and what makes it even weirder I think fresh likes him back. Shakes head. that’s off topic though, so as I was saying, I was visiting my brother when I found that photo. I was sitting on the sofa with error when ink asked me to grab an art book from the cupboard for him. So like any kind person I got up and went to the cuboid, but as I was getting the book I knocked over what seemed to be an old photo from. When I picked it up I knotted that the glass what cracked that must have happened in the fall. On closer inspection I knottiest it was a pitcher of error holding what I assume was paperjam. But there was something off about it, unlike paperjam this baby didn't have ink splat he also had box like blue markings on his gray bones unlike paperjam. This got me thinking that this must be someone else kid, so as the cuross and concerned older brother I decided to ask error about it. I closed the door of the cupboard and made my way to the sofa pitcher in hand as I poke errors cheek, Error turns and faces me with little annoyance. “Is there something you need geno?” he asked me in curiosity. “I was wondering if you knew who this baby is considering that you are in the pitcher.?” I handed the photo over to error and sit in wait for any reaction. Error looks at the photo amused by genos curiosity but the more he stares at it, the more his grin starts to fade. He looks at the photo with dread almost like he regretting something. I continue to watch him as he places a hand on the photo over the child face like he's trying to physically touch the child in the image. Curiosity takes over me as I asked him something I know he didn't want to here. “You do know this child right?” My eyes widen as error starts to cry holding the photo close to his chest. I pull him into a comforting hug, rubbing his back to calm him down. “Hay now it's OK, you don't need to tell me if you don't want to” Error shakes his head. “on its not right that you don't know him it's just we've kept this secret for so long…” “You can tell me anything brother, i'm here for you” I place a hand on his shoulder and give him an encouraging look. Error wipes the tears from his eyes as he stares at Geno. “The child in the photo… the reason I know him is that he is mine and inks child.” My eyes widen in disbelief. “you have another child with ink? Why did you never tell us and why did you need to keep it secret” Error looks down in sadness. “The reason we kept it secret is because I killed him…” I jump up in surprise and scream. “YOU DID WHAT TO HIM!!!” Error cried harder as he shakes. “i-it wasn't my fault, h-he just started glitching a-and then the next moment he was gone, I tried to find him believe me I did but ink… he didn't believe me I know he's alive out there I just need to find him I j-just DAMIT” “error pleases calm down this isn't good for you” Error hugs Geno. “Please big brother you have to find him m-maybe he's in the save screen i'll do anything just…. Bring him home” “i'll see what I can do…” Chapter 4 New Biggings ---Genos pov--- I have been searching everywhere and asking everyone i know if they have seen him, tho it was always the same… They iver didn't know who he was or didn't care because he was errors son. Eventually i tried to ask reaper to confirm if he was even alive and to my happiness he said yes, but then he went quiet. I asked him what was wrong and he told me not to go looking for that child because all he will bring is misfortune and death. I was horrified but not at the child but at reaper for trying to stop me from looking for my nefw. We fought and argued for days until he finally gave up and told me where he was but with a condition. If i bring that child back, then reaper and goth will leave. It was an almost impossible chose to make but i chose that child over my own family, so reaper took me to where the child lays. ---Gradients pov--- I flinch as i stare up at geno with broken gray eyes, he makes a move to come close but i scurry away as much as i can before collapsing again from lack of strength. After that he chose not to come closer instead he sat down and stared at me. I eventually build up the courage to speak and as my voice echoed in the white abuse i said. “who are you?” ---Geno pov--- I was shocked to see this child, he looked just like error but more pale and thin, it also looks like he hasn't slept in days. I move closer to pull him into a hug but he ran away almost like i was about to hurt him. I hesitated but sat down to try and make myself look smol and less threatening. It must of worked because moments later he spoke* “who are you?” “my name is geno, i'm your uncle” “u-uncle g-geno?” “yh that's right, you're safe now i'm gonna take you home.” I smile at the child in a comforting way as his eyes fill with hope and tears, then out of nowhere he hugs me in a accepting way and it was in that moment i know. I finally saved someone. ---Other Discripchion--- (not mine) Gradient is a teenager (14) and he tries to act older than he is(evident of his speech) but he HATES acting his age because he doesn’t wanna be seen as childish. He also has the unique ability that whenever he becomes extremely flustered/embarrassed, his form will start to bubble (much like a lava lamp) as his form starts to change from a solid to a liquid. When Gradient travels through the multiverse, like his father (Ink), he keeps an AU log.  He likes to learn about the different AUs before his dad (Error) destroys them. When Gradient is with strangers, most often he might slip and act his age.  However, when he’s with his friends or people that knows him, he will do his best to not act his age. Gradient doesn’t need to sleep (because he was born in the anti-void) but on certain occasions he will.  Otherwise he rarely sleeps. When he does sleep he most of the time has nightmares  Gradient has Haphephobia, like Error, he has a fear of touch.  So strangers he ESPECIALLY hates touching him and even if you’re already one of his friends, he still doesn’t like to be touched but he will tolerate it. If Gradient were to receive a gift (and he has so we’ll use the MP3 Player for an example) he would selfish and NOT want to share.  He would fear that it would be taken away and he would never get it back.  (Kinda linking this to how Error was never around when he was a kid and he doesn’t want something precious, gift or parent, to slip through his fingers again. Plus he’s a teenager so its kinda natural for them to act selfishly here and there. Gradient has heard of AUs and timelines that have made it to the surface, but he has never encountered one before. He also is very naive.  He’s not familiar at all with human things or the world above. (Ex: His friend Rip offered him cake once, and he didn’t know what cake was.  He was asked if he owned a radio since he likes music but he didn’t know what a radio was) Gradient is also a pacifist.  He does not like to fight.  However, if the situation absolutely demands it, and if he is pushed over the edge just enough, he won’t hesitate to protect what he cares about. Even to this day, Gradient longs for Error to accept him as his son.  He doesn’t hate him and he won’t ever be able to since that is his dad. Gradient doesn’t believe that someone can come to love him because he sees that he has so many problems that he doesn’t seem himself as a desirable catch.  (His glitching, his eating habits, how he destroys his creations so willy nilly, etc) Gradient also has a fear of touching things that are nice or pretty because he feels that anything he touches could destroy at the slightest touch of his fingers.   Gradient gets jealous of other people’s artwork and it may come to the point where he wishes to destroy their work. Gradient, despite being the eldest, still has a lot to learn about the world. He lived in the Anti-Void his whole life, so he knows nothing about Earth or any human or monster customs. He's very curious and not afraid to say what's on his mind at any given time: he loves to learn about the different AU's before Error destroys them, and keeps an AU log. He also has the unique ability that whenever he becomes extremely flustered/embarrassed, his body will start to bubble (much like a lava lamp) as his form starts to change from a solid to a liquid. Gradient loves to create, but is a perfectionist, dubbing his creations 'hideous' before promptly destroying them. ---Relashion ships--- Paperjam Paperjam is in the middle in terms of age, but definitely acts the most responsible. Gradient admires PJ's resolve and confidence in himself despite the odds being stacked against him. He tries to help PJ take care of Bluescreen and offer his support in times of need. They're very closely knit: Paperjam considers himself the protector of his brothers. Gradient is thankful to have PJ there. Bluescreen Bluescreen is the youngest of the three. Gradient likes to challenge him to contests and games to try and boost his confidence. He doesn't like seeing Blue lonely, as Gradi himself knows the feeling all too well. So he spends as much time as he can with Bluescreen, often asking him to help out with a project. Oftentimes their escapades get out of control, which ends in getting in trouble with Paperjam. Ink When Gradient was born, Error immediately rejected him, whereas Ink took him in. When nothing is too busy, Gradi likes to visit Ink in whatever part of the universe he happens to be in. They know all each others' ins and outs: they're very similar in personality. Ink likes to spend most of his free time with Gray, while Error fawns over Paperjam. Gray tries to include Bluescreen in as much as he can, which Ink deeply appreciates. Error Error hates Gradient with a burning passion, avoiding him as much as possible, and at one point even attacking him for visiting without permission. Gradi, on the other hand, wants Error's love and acceptance more than anything. He tries fruitlessly to prove himself. He wishes Error would love him, and is angered by the fact that he won't accept him. But despite that, Gradient still loves his dad, even if Error will always loathe him.

if someone wanted to really understand you, what would they read, watch, and listen to?
For listen, it would be of Montreal’s Paralytic Stalks, read it would be Angela Carter’s The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman, and for watch it would be either Terry Gilliam’s Brazil or Wings of Desire.
have you ever found a writer who thinks just like you? if so, who?
No. I think it’s impossible to find anyone who thinks just like another does. My thoughts have been guided by certain writers so if anything, I don’t think like them, but their amassed effort has made me realize my malleability.
list your fandoms and one character from each that you identify with.
I feel sad saying this, but I don’t have a fandom. I don’t like belonging to any clubs that would want to have me. The only thing that comes close for me (though I don’t contribute to any communities for it) is probably the Megami Tensei franchise. I cosplayed as Anne Takamaki from Persona 5 so I think I might identify with her.
do you like your name?  is there another name you think would fit you better?
I like my name. I did participate in a thread where someone chose a name of the opposite gender and renamed me. They chose Elliot, which I think is the only other name I’d accept.
do you think of yourself as a human being or a human doing? do you identify yourself by the things you do?
“A human being or a human doing”? In this application, being and doing mean the exact same thing.
are you religious/spiritual?
No. I’m an atheist.
do you care about your ethnicity?
Sometimes. Not always. People always want to know what I “am.” Which is funny because there isn’t much to that “am”.
what musical artists have you most felt connected to over your lifetime?
I would say . . . of Montreal, The Fiery Furnaces, St. Vincent, Bjork, Radiohead, Rufus Wainwright, David Bowie, Eleanor Friedberger, Belle & Sebastian, Harry Nilsson . . .
are you an artist?
Not at all. I sketch every now and then though.
do you have a creed?
“Don’t shit where you eat.”
describe your ideal day.
Being able to stay home, write, sew, watch films, read. Maybe socialize. That’s becoming an important part of my life now.
dog person or cat person?
All animals person. Even snakes and spiders. Though I will say I am slightly more in favor of cats over dogs. But I love dogs too.
inside or outdoors?
Inside is more likely where I will stay. Sometimes I would love to go outside, but I convince myself that it’s not what I really want.
are you a musician?
I used to play the clarinet, guitar, and flute. I had played the clarinet for the longest and was in both orchestra and marching band. I was also in jazz band where I was hit with a depressive breakdown and stopped playing entirely. I’ve been thinking about playing again, though.
five most influential books over your lifetime.
The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman by Angela Carter, The Neverending Story by Michael Ende, Ice by Anna Kavan, Blue Eyes, Black Hair by Marguerite Duras, and The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Kureishi.
if you’d grown up in a different environment, do you think you’d have turned out the same?
Yes. I grew up in an environment that was fairly religious. Several of my friends invited me to their “youth camps” (I can’t think of what the second word actually is, but I have camp stuck in my head). I’ve been an atheist since I was 11. I played at being religious so that they wouldn’t know but eventually the truth came out. And my friends were . . . nicer about it than I thought they would have been.
would you say your tumblr is a fair representation of the “real you”?
One side, yes. There’s another me that has emerged though and it’s the me that was stifled by depression and anxiety. It’s a me that is really sociable and has an easy time talking to others and likes to make people laugh. It’s a me that existed in high school that is only now coming back.
what’s your patronus?
I think that’s a Harry Potter thing and I’ve never read Harry Potter nor do I have any intention to do so.
which Harry Potter house would you be in? or are you a muggle?
See above.
would you rather be in Middle Earth, Narnia, Hogwarts, or somewhere else?
“Anywhere but here, any time but now.”
do you love easily?
It takes a little more time for me. I have to warm up to people. And if someone tries to make a move on me before I’ve reached that point, they’ve ruined any chance of getting my attention. I have to take my time to figure out who a person is. I’ve found more and more recently that I care little about romantic love and have far more interest in friendly or familial love.
list the top five things you spend the most time doing, in order.
Working, driving, writing, sewing, watching films.
how often would you want to see your family every year?
Far more than I usually do. It’s extremely rare that any of us have time to get together on days that aren’t holidays though.
have you ever felt like you had a “mind-meld” with someone?
Sometimes. And I actually love to use “mind-meld” in conversation. There is someone who has issues that are similar to mine. While we were on break one time, we started to have a conversation that was extremely close to a certain conversation about prescribed drugs in Silver Linings Playbook. I dislike that film, but it was bizarre to be having that exact conversation.
could you live as a hermit?
Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. There are times when I crave isolation. But there are also times when I crave being around people.
how would you describe your gender/sexuality?
Murky. I’m still not sure what’s going on with it and I often describe it as an amorphous fog in my head. I don’t feel anything too strongly about it. Gender is something that is difficult for me to talk about, as a lot of people have wanted to dress me up throughout my life and I have had little control over that. I think sewing is allowing me to experiment with that. Sexuality, I identified as bisexual and while going through a depressive breakdown, I believed I was asexual. Now after drugs and therapy, I’m more aware of the fact that I’m most likely bisexual. I’m more likely to be attracted to women over men though.
do you feel like your outside appearance is a fair representation of the “real you”?
I don’t know. What is the real me? I experiment with clothes. Try on other identities, try to see what fits. Some stick. Others don’t.
on a scale from 1 to 10, how hard is it for someone to get under your skin?
Internally, 3. Outwardly, 11. I refuse to show someone that they are getting under my skin. And trust me, I have dealt with difficult people in my line of work.
three songs that you connect with right now.
Hang On Me by St. Vincent, Last Rites at the Jane Hotel by of Montreal, Put Your Money on Me by Arcade Fire
pick one of your favorite quotes.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg's Documentarians Are Still 'Very Scared' of Her (Exclusive)
"Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whether women know it or not, has had a big impact on all of us," documentarian Julie Cohen explains. Associate Justice Ginsburg was only the second woman ever confirmed to the Supreme Court, of four total, and a pioneer of women's rights and gender equality, long before her scorching dissents launched her into a pop culture icon-dom as the Notorious R.B.G.
Now, Cohen and her directing partner, Betsy West, have a hand in crafting Ginsburg's legacy and introducing more women -- and men -- to her story with their film, RBG, out now, which documents her early days in Brooklyn and Harvard Law School and onward, through landmark court cases to Kate McKinnon's infamous Ginsburn-dropping impression on Saturday Night Live. (The RBG crew was the first to show Justice Ginsburg the sketch.)
"It's an honor to tell her story, frankly. I feel that. I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity," West told me. Seated around a conference table in a Hollywood office suite, the duo discussed with ET why Ginsburg originally turned down the doc, why they are still "very intimidated" by their subject and why RBG is now more relevant than ever.
ET: This is the first documentary that is wholly about Ruth Bader Ginsberg, as far as I am aware.
Betsy West: Yes.
I have to imagine she's been pitched the opportunity in the past. Do you know?
Julie Cohen: You know what, we don't know. We didn't ask her! [Laughs]
West: She's done interviews before--
Cohen: Right, including for us.
West: We had both interviewed her for other projects. I had a big project about the women's movement, and Julie did a film [The Sturgeon Queens] about a Lower East Side fish store.
Cohen: A smoked fish store that she's a fan of, so I'd interviewed her for that.
In your estimation, did she seems protective of her image? Or precious, even, about telling her story?
West: Well, look, she's a very busy woman, to the extent that her time is limited. We wound up spending about 20 hours with her over the filming of a year and a half. She imposed absolutely no limits on what we would ask her about or what we would do -- she didn't try to control it in any way. Beyond just what we knew, which is that if you're a sitting Supreme Court justice, you can't talk about cases or issues that are likely to come before the court. We wouldn't even think to do that. That's crazy! But other than that, there were no restrictions.
Cohen: If anything, her mode in terms of suggesting things to us was to expand things. She was always telling us, "Oh, do you know about this? Do you know about that? Have you talked to this person? Do you know that I'm going to be doing a speaking role in the Washington National Opera?" Her office had mentioned that to us about nine or so months in advance. Her life has been very full and she's got a lot of accomplishments. She told us about all kinds of things, [but] we can't use everything in the film. I actually wouldn't say protective.
West: No!
Cohen: For someone who's as reserved as she is, she was actually fairly open.
What was your original pitch to her about what the documentary would be?
West: We wrote her a very finely crafted letter in which we said we wanted to do a documentary about her life and what she's accomplished in her life, including her work as a women's rights advocate in the 1970s, and that we wanted to really go into the cases and what she argued and what the outcome was. And also, just take a look at the full breadth of her professional and personal life.
Cohen: Of course, from her perspective, people in her immediate circle all know her history -- they understand what she accomplished for women's rights under the law -- but the general public really doesn't. We made that point: You've become this very well known public figure, but there's amazing story of your life that so many of even your fans don't know about. We just want to tell it as thoroughly as we can.
Was it a yes from her on your first ask?
Cohen: No. Essentially, it was a "not yet."
When was that first pitch?
Cohen: That was in January of 2015.
West: The answer was very nice, very polite--
Cohen: And she answered us at all, which we know a lot of requests that go to her office don't get answered! Because they're busy there.
West: But basically, not yet. She was 82 at that point and we were like, "Oh. If not now, when?" But then we thought, Well, she didn't say no. So, we made a slightly different approach in which we actually outlined a list of the people we were going to interview and we said we didn't need to interview her at first, but that we'd like to start gathering material and talking to these people and, again, quick response. Her first sentence was, "I would not be prepared to give you an interview for at least two years." So, this is now the summer of 2015. We're thinking, "2017? That's a long way away." But then the next paragraph was, "Well, if you're going to be talking to people, you might also want to talk to" and she added the names of three people. At that point, we thought, Wow. She's interested. That was a signal from her that we could proceed, and so we did.
Do you know why two years? What was the significance of that amount of time?
Cohen: We really don't. We suspect that part of it was testing our mettle. Because truthfully, if you're going to do a documentary about someone, it's going to take some years to get it together. So, I think she just wanted to see if we were going to go away or if we wanted to do this badly enough that we were going to proceed according to her timeframe.
West: It seemed like a long way away, but in fact, it really allowed us to get everything in order, to do all the interviews, to do all the archive research and to structure the film so that by the time we interviewed her in the summer of 2017, we already had a pretty finely honed rough cut. We followed her around the country at these various events where she speaks and does interviews and by the time we were getting ready to sit down for the interview, we'd structured a lot of the film. We knew, OK, we need to ask her more about her mother. We need to ask her more about the Frontiero case. These are the things that we want to touch on. It helped us in a way. It worked out.
"The idea of an 85-year-old rock star, yes, it's funny. But also there's something kind of beautiful about it."
Was it one interview total that she sat for? How long was your interview that day?
West: We sat with her for an hour and a half in the Supreme Court.
Having interviewed with her in the past, was there still anything that surprised you about Justice Ginsburg when you got in the room with her? Anything that you weren't expecting?
West: We did know a lot about her. I think the extent of her love for her husband, the relationship and our understanding of how important that was to her personal life and her professional life, we got a greater feel for that. We were very lucky that her biographers had come across these home movies which were from Justice Ginsburg's husband's family. That was really a wonderful gift, because you can see the still photos of Justice Ginsburg -- she was a beautiful young woman -- but I think in those home movies you really get a sense of just the closeness, the young romance, which is quite beautiful.
Cohen: Justice Ginsburg is a serious-minded and presents herself quite seriously and quietly and somberly, so any moment of emotion that comes from her almost feels like a surprise. Whether it's her loving feelings towards her late husband, her children and grandchildren, or frankly, her humor. I think both the little zingers that she gives out in her talks -- which we tried to include throughout the film -- and also her reaction to seeing the Saturday Night Live impersonation of herself, which, she's really cracking up pretty heavily. To see her have so much humor and even when it's kind of humor at her own expense, was surprising. It's not like we expected her to dislike that, but I don't think we expected her to get as much a charge of it as she did! [Laughs]
West: She's intimidating as a person!
Cohen: Yes, we're very intimidated by her.
West: [Laughs] We're very scared when we go to see her. Because there's something very regal about her, in a way. And she takes time to gather her thoughts before she talks, so sometimes there's a bit of a pause. That can be intimidating as well.
Cohen: Even her childhood friends said they were intimidated by her!
She says in the movie that [her late husband] Marty was the humorous one and she considers herself "sober." Yet, she also seems to have so embraced this notorious RBG persona, and the first time you see her in the documentary is working out wearing a "Super Diva!" sweatshirt. I think she's hilarious. Maybe she doesn't know it yet.
Cohen: No, I think she knows it now. It's an unusual persona. It's not something that usually happens to -- certainly -- a judge in their 80s. That's not normally when one would become a rock star as a woman, but that's part of the fun of it. She has embraced it. She understands that it's an opportunity to educate young people about more serious issues, but I think she also appreciates that whole idea of in a society where we're usually making celebrities out of people who are not old enough to have any clue what's going on, the idea of an 85-year-old rock star is, yes, it's funny. But also there's something kind of beautiful about it.
Having worked on the doc for so many years, what does it mean to you that it's coming out right now? After Hillary Clinton's loss, but in this moment of Time's Up and #MeToo and the Women's Marches.
Cohen: You know, at the time that we started this project in 2015, one question in our minds was: Are we coming to this a little too late? That turned out to be exactly the opposite. As luck would have it, our film is coming out at a moment where Justice Ginsburg seems -- and I think is -- more relevant than she's ever been, both literally in terms of what she's doing on the court and also as a symbol of speaking out against that with which you disagree, and also looking back to her earlier career, speaking up and making change where there are problems. She's an example for the current generation of activists to follow and I think our film has more emotional resonance than we knew it was going to, because of the environment that we're releasing it into.
West: No question about it.
People spend a lot of time worrying about what we will do when Justice Ginsburg isn't seated on the court. From the time you spent with her, does it seem like that is something she thinks about a lot?
West: I'm not sure that she dwells on it a lot. She gets asked about it a lot.
Cohen: People are saying it to her, yeah.
West: People are always asking her what is her plan for retirement. She has a stock answer, which is that, "I will do this job so long as I can do it full steam." She sent a more subtle sign a few months ago when she announced her clerks not just for next term, but for the year after. She has named her clerks up through 2020. That seems as though it's a sign that [she] intends to be here. And, look, her workout -- which is pretty vigorous and pretty extraordinary -- is an example of her determination to keep herself in shape to do the job that she loves.
I think it's more rigorous than my workouts.
Cohen: Us too.
West: Believe me, we have been inspired and tried to up our game a little bit after having witness that. It was quite a day.

From your time spent filming her and then interviewing her and through this release, do you have a go-to favorite party anecdote about your time with Justice Ginsburg?
Cohen: I think the party anecdotes are really about Sundance. Justice Ginsburg saw the film for the first when it had its world premiere at Sundance. She came to Park City, [Utah] not having seen the film--
West: Never asked to see the film in advance, ever.
Cohen: Which is pretty incredible. I feel like just seeing the way that that whole environment that's used to organizing itself over worshipping the latest young movie star, seeing all of Park City, this Hollywood machinedom, go crazy over this tiny, 85-year-old Supreme Court Justice was just really... [Laughs] Crazy and exciting and fun.
West: It was quiet a day. She arrived, she looked fantastic and it had snowed in Sundance. She had on little flats. She didn't even have boots. Everybody was so nervous! They were sending people out to shovel the snow so she wouldn't have to walk in anything. She gave a talk, a Q&A, with [NPR's] Nina Totenberg prior to the screening and there were people lined up down the block to try to get into this thing. It really was a hot ticket.
Cohen: A big line of people and everyone with their cell phones out, and she gets out of her car with the federal Marshals and everyone is treating her the way you treat a major pop culture celebrity. And you see in this little smile on her face, she enjoyed that!
West: The other thing that happened at Sundance, the other sort of great moment in addition to her watching the film and liking it, was we went in to see her before she gave this talk. It was the little green room and she was sitting in a big chair and we went in to talk to her. We talked to her for five or 10 minutes and then we left, and I was standing across the hallway from the room and all of a sudden, I saw, like, a plaid shirt come by and a blond back of the head and the Marshal opened the door and Justice Ginsburg popped up to attention. It was Robert Redford. He introduced her for the talk and then afterward, several hours later, she did the premiere. She was very generous in that she came down to the front, said that she liked the movie and then somebody asked her, "How do you like Sundance?" And she said, "Well, I think Park City is very beautiful. It reminds me of Switzerland. And Robert Redford is still very handsome."

20 Best New Portfolios, March 2018
Hello readers! It’s March. As is tradition, I’ve gone and collected a bunch of interesting portfolio designs for your perusal. It’s an eclectic mix this month. You’ll see some plain and basic good design together with sites that do interesting things with 3D graphics. Enjoy!
Note: I’m judging these sites by how good they look to me. If they’re creative and original, or classic but really well-done, it’s all good to me. Sometimes, UX and accessibility suffer. For example, many of these sites depend on JavaScript to display their content at all; this is a Bad Idea, kids. If you find an idea you like and want to adapt to your own site, remember to implement it responsibly.
Kaj Jeffries
Kaj Jeffries has won my meme-loving heart by the simple expedient of using GIFs to showcase his work as a director. It’s a simple technique that works flawlessly with his particular directorial style. The layout with two columns that scroll in opposite directions is perhaps not the most practical, but certainly fits the vibe while not being unusable.
Ori Studio
Ori Studio is the first site in a long time to have “dots” as their primary theme. I don’t know, the first word I thought of was “pointillism”, but that doesn’t feel quite right. In any case, the style lends a very distinct feel to the site, and I doubt I’ll forget it soon.
Julien Renau
When you take into account how much I dislike pre-loaders and the overuse of animation, it says something that I like Julien Renau’s portfolio. There’s just something about the little blinking mascot (which you can control via the arrow keys), and the execution of the rest of the site that I find both elegant, and a little charming.
Uncanny Valley Studio
Uncanny Valley Studio changes up what would otherwise be a fairly standard minimalist layout by embracing a distorted graphical style when presenting their projects. And it works.
Each of their projects also seems to feature some interactive elements, such as this basic music looper. This adds a whole new dimension to the way users experience the portfolio.
Snow Beach
Anyone who’s read a few of these articles will know that I can appreciate designers trying something bold, and even drastic, even if it’s a little flawed. That’s more or less how I’d describe Snow Beach, a portfolio for what appears to be a team of directors.
The navigation isn’t exactly obvious as navigation until you look closely, and the “screensaver” kicks in way too quickly. Otherwise, this site hits you hard with that red tone, and a design that is obviously all about getting you to the videos as quickly as possible. I like it.
Community Films
Community Films is another portfolio for several different directors. Instead of hitting you hard with a ton of one single color, though, this one organizes its videos (and Instagram posts) into a pleasant masonry layout.
I’d say they need to make it clearer which links are Instagram picture and which are videos from the get-go, without requiring the user to hover over each one. Otherwise, the site is pleasant to browse, and stays out of your way.
One Design Company
ODC2017 is an interesting case, as it’s not the main portfolio. It’s just a collection of things that One Design Company did in 2017. I have to say, it’s rare for me to see over a dozen color palettes put to use in one page, and even rarer still for me to think it works. But it works here.
Claudia Basel
Claudia Basel’s portfolio is another one of those sites that hits the right spot ion a weird way. You know, like, it’s weird but it’s good weird. Full-screen navigation with what looks an awful lot like a family photo on the home page gives way to a minimalist portfolio that is clean and clear.
Hugo Vann
Hugo Vann took the now very-familiar asymmetrical site and gave it a dark coat of paint. It’s simple, and nothing mind-blowing, but it looks pretty, and works well. What I do particularly like is the way he presents snapshots of his work in ways that make sense for the medium. For example, he doesn’t present his mobile interfaces with skeuomorphic faux-phones, but you can still tell it’s a mobile interface first and foremost.
Patrick Heng
Patrick Heng used his portfolio as a way to show off all of the fancy interactive tricks he could pull. But I’ll find a way to forgive him, if only because it’s just so pleasant to look at. It’s rare that a site manages to feel colorful despite most of its elements being monochromatic. It definitely has something to do with how colorful all of his work is.
Switch
I’d just like to tell the people behind Switch that their site is lovely, find yet another way to implement project slideshows creatively, and that they should look out for lawsuits from Nintendo; they litigate hard.
I typically wouldn’t recommend using slideshows for everything, but I must admit that more and more sites manage to make it work. Switch is one of them. I’d just make the contact info horizontal again. I don’t like trying to decipher text that’s “on its side”.
Akademi
With the dead-simple layout, the huge and bold sans-serif type, and the thick black borders on some thing, Akademi feels like a bit of a throwback. You know, a throwback to two or three years ago, at most? Darn, trends move fast.
It ain’t fancy, but it’s a good website. Man, I almost miss this style, now.
Two Twenty Two
Two Twenty Two is the next site on this list to go a little nuts with the 3D graphics on its website. We’ve got polygonal pizza, lollipops, toast, sunglasses, and those boxes from Super Mario that have question marks. The rest of the site sticks to a fairly typical layout, but that homepage really sets the tone.
Magic People Voodoo People
Magic People Voodoo People lives up to its name by embracing a new-age kind of vibe in its presentation-style portfolio. And even if the logo does look a bit too much like clip-art for my taste, you can’t deny that they have a distinct theme going for them.
P.S. Click around on their page until you see lasers shoot from the eye-logo. Then keep clicking as fast as you can.
Contrast Films
Contrast Films has taken to the Internet with a presentation-style site that very lightly mimics the look of a video camera’s view-finder. It’s stylish, the type is great, and they milk that theme for all its worth.
I am still skeptical of navigation links being spread to all four corners (or sides) of any given website, though. I don’t know where this trend came from, and I’d dearly like to see some numbers on how well it does or doesn’t work.
Mr. Kyle Mac
Mr. Kyle Mac brings us another website that is light, clean, and minimalist, with a few light touches of animation. Nothing mind-blowing, but solid and dependable design.
Walter Spatzek
Walter Spatzek’s portfolio goes right past “light touches” of animation, and dives right into the deep end. And yet, the rest of the design feels elegant enough that I don’t mind. The work is very clearly emphasized, and does all of the selling.
Florian Wacker
Florian Wacker has managed to do something I never thought I’d see. They’ve made (what I’m pretty sure is) German look more elegant than terrifying through typography alone. Okay, that’s a joke, but really, if that was English, I’d quite enjoy just reading everything on this site.
Ketan Mistry
Ketan Mistry is an old-school designer, and his website embraces an old-school theme. I half suspect his website might have looked a lot like this as far back as when we used frames and tables for layout. And why not? Good design lasts.
Robbie Hall Creative
If Robbie Hall’s portfolio looks a bit like a theme, don’t worry. That’s just Bootstrap showing through. However, I didn’t figure that out ’til I looked at the source. In a way, that fact alone is a testament to the skill of the designer. Plus, it looks good.
