The idea that vampires can be harmed by catholicism and such is propaganda spread by vampires in order to buy themselves some time to run or fight back before a vampire hunter would realize that their tactics aren't working and changing their approach. In fact the majority of christians/catholics are vampires themselves, which is why they're so obsessed with drinking Jesus Christ's blood
