So the obvious type for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond is Steel, with a starter, a legendary, and a breakout that got into Smash all sharing the type. But… there’s not much else beyond that. So I got some help from the past (as well as a mythical I forgot I’d get).
(Oh, and I didn’t play this for two days nonstop without sleeping, don’t worry. I’ve been hopping between this and finishing things up in Pokémon Legends: Arceus ever since I beat Volo.)

I'm obsessed with Hazbin Hotel and Pokemon, so I just had to give everyone teams! I didn't want to give anyone specific types but things to fit both their personality, growth, and just Pokemon I thought they'd have.
Explanations below:
Charlie's main Pokemon is her Umbreon, to represent KeeKee, and Dreepy to represent Razzle and Dazzle. Hisuian Typhlosion is said to purify spirits before leading them to the afterlife but can also unleash those spirits when they're enraged. Quaxly and Mime Jr. are just fun little nods to Charlie's love of dance and Mime Jr. can also learn the move Sing. I imagine them singing and dancing along with her.
Vaggie's main Pokemon is actually her Absol. I was going to make it her Iron Valiant, which I believe all Exorcists would have, but I wanted to do something different for her. I gave her Pokemon that have weapons and a moth to call back to her earlier designs. Her Espeon is a parallel to Charlie's Umbreon. Because they might be the reverse in personality, you still have Heaven (the sun) and Hell (moon).
Alastor was difficult to give Pokemon to since he's such an enigma. His main Pokemon would be a Rotom that inhabits his microphone. Skeledirge has a microphone and is a ghost type. I'd imagine the Skeledirge has is much more malicious than is typical of its species. Dedenne is another Pokemon that I'd link to radio waves while Froslass and Runerigus are "evil" Pokemon. Runerigus even has strange tentacles like Alastor does. Unfortunately, there are no evil deer Pokemon but Autumn Sawsbuck are the most aggressive of the four seasons.
Angel Dust was a fun one to create. Because he's such a complex character. My first thought was to give him waifu Pokemon from different regions but I didn't want to focus on that aspect of him. Or just give him all spider Pokemon. So I focused on the Pokemon he might surround himself with. His main Pokemon is, obviously, his shiny Lechonk to represent Fat Nuggets. His Ariados plays on the fact that he's a spider but is also a poison type Pokemon. Togepi and Sylveon are both fairy types and Pokemon linked to empathy and feelings. Morelull could be the closest nod to shrooms or other drugs since it's, you know, Pokemon. I gave him a Mawile because it's feminine Pokemon with a scary bite.
Oh, Niffty. The funniest idea would be to give her an all bug team. But that would be mean to the bugs. Her Scyther is her main Pokemon because it's a bug but also has sharp knife hands. So I gave her a Joltik as her one bug Pokemon as a connection to bugs and Alastor. Her Minccino is another Pokemon that evokes the part of Niffty that's the hotel's maid. Mimikyu is just a creepy Pokemon that hides behind a cute look. And I just threw in Tyranitar because Niffty would have an insanely strong Pokemon that's a little crazy.
Yeah, unlike the others, I did give Husk mostly cat Pokemon, but they all fit his personality or the idea behind his character. His main Pokemon is his Meowscarada because it's a magician, just like Husk. Meowth represents the more regal yet greedy Overlord he used to be. His Torracat has very similar colors to Husk with the black and red. His Litwick reminds me of the magical lights Husk put up and were lit with Charlie's magic and his Purrloin represents his deviousness regarding his Overlord days. His Rookiedee represents his wings and chivalry when it comes to some of the characters later in the show and his steel exterior.
Sir Pentious was obviously going to have some snakes on his team but I also wanted to give him some steel types and psychic for his high intelligence and love of engineering. His main Pokemon is his Steelix. It's snake-like but in-your-face snake. He has an Arbok but it's not his main Pokemon. He has Exeggucte to represent the Egg Boiz, but also kind of Togedemaru since it's friend-shaped but spikey. Metang and Golurk represent things that have been created/man-made, which is his thing.
Cherri Bomb was fun because most of her Pokemon know the move Explosion. Her main Pokemon is her Camerupt, which shares her personality. Her Golem and her Electrode are for the whole, you know, bomb thing Cherri's got going on. Her Cherubi and her Hattrem are the more feminine Pokemon on her team but her Hattrem likes to terrorize people just like she does. Her Magnemite has the single eye like she does and also explodes.
Lucifer was really fun because I was originally going to try to give him Pokemon to match the forms that he changes into during the fight with Adam but then rethought the plan. Obviously, he needs to have an Applin for the forbidden apple that will eventually become a Hydrapple. And a Ducklett because of his love for ducks. It was between Ducklett and Psyduck but I thought the cuteness of the small Ducklett just makes me think of Lucifer putting a top hat on it. Lucifer's main Pokemon is actually his Hisuian Zoroark, which is the Baneful Pokemon. I was going to have his main be his Seviper but him being tossed out of Heaven and retreating into isolation and shadows once Lilith left him just fit Hisuian Zoroark. Spiritomb has evil spirits inside it which I think matches Lucifer being in charge of the evils of the world. And Lucario is based of Anubis, who is the guide of the dead to the Underworld.

May I request a platonic Hop x reader where the reader comforts him after losing to and being insulted by Bede?
When Hop ran off to challenge Bede in the Wilds Area after the latter insulted you both, you thought he could handle that snobby psychic-type user easily.
For you, taking down his team was like a walk in the park. None of his Pokémon stood a chance against you! So you didn't think there was anything to worry about as you continued onto Hammerlocke, wanting to get your hard-earned badges verified.
Along the way, you've battled some of the stronger wild Pokémon, rounding up a few to add to your team for the next gym challenges. Of course there were a few who were a bit too strong for you to capture at the moment, so you moved on quickly so you didn't get hurt.
But after getting approved by the agent, you were just about to climb the steps when Bede approached...with Hop nowhere to be found.
Much to your dismay, your best friend was defeated in their battle, and he just rubbed his victory in your face, convinced that Hop will withdraw from the challenge for sure. Apparently a few visitors have captured footage of their fight...which must've been a blow to the latter's self-esteem for sure.
Your blood was boiling, especially when Bede mocked Wooloo, claiming it's only a matter of time before it was abandoned.
Sure, he might've been endorsed by the chairman himself..but that's no excuse for his attitude and poor sportsmanship! He had no right talking to another human being like that!
You would've fought him right there and then...but decided not to give into anger as he smugly moved onto Hammerlocke. Instead, you opted to search for Hop, texting him several times to see if he was okay.
Unfortunately, there was no response from him, which was worrying. Although you've both grown in strength since first coming here, the Wild Area was still quite dangerous if he winded up in the wrong place.
After some backtracking, you finally found him trying to take on a very strong-looking Steelix, sending his Wooloo against the iron beast. But despite the obvious disadvantages of a normal type against steel, he kept pushing it to fight back.
Its attacks barely made it flinch.
Steelix chuffed at your friend's attempts to battle it, as though it pitied the little sheep for being forced to fight, before it summoned a sandstorm that blinded the two.
When Wooloo's attack missed because of the weather change, it bared a merciless smile and prepared an Iron Tail attack-
When all of the sudden a plush Clefairy doll was tossed into its field of vision, momentarily distracting it.
Through the blinding sand, Hop realized it was you who intervened, but before he could say anything, you rushed into the storm to grab his wrist.
"C'mon! It's too strong for either of us!!" You didn't wait for his response as you quickly yanked him out of the fight.
You knew he was reckless like his brother...but not to this degree. There's no way he'd act like this under normal circumstances.
Together you ran from the Steelix as the sandstorm subsided, and it growled as it noticed Wooloo fleeing as well, before returning underground.
Once you were both in one of the calmer areas, you let go of Hop's wrist, turning to frown at him. "What were you thinking?!" You huffed. "You're lucky I had a Poké Doll or else-!!"
However, your annoyance was quick to evaporate when you saw the tears welling up in his golden eyes.
Only then did you feel your heart sink with guilt.
"...s-sorry, I was just..trying to get stronger." He was struggling to keep himself together. But it was failing as he slumped against one of the trees, sliding down and covering his face with his hands. "P-Please don't tell Leon.."
He never wanted to be seen like this, especially not by his rival and best friend. Yet here you were, saving him and somehow knowing exactly what to do...while all he knew how to do was get hurt.
"No, I'm sorry for yelling, Hop. I promise I won't tell him." Kneeling down, you sighed softly, watching Wooloo attempt to comfort its trainer. "Listen..whatever Bede said isn't worth your tears. He just thinks he's better than everyone else."
"I-I know, but...it still hurt." He peeked at you through his fingers, sniffling. "The things he said to me...a-and Wooloo...they just stung, mate. And ya know what else? He....he thinks the gym leaders only gave me their badges out of pity."
"...what?! I'm gonna-!!!" You grew livid, but soon calmed down as you remembered getting angry would only make him feel worse. "I-I mean..that's stupid. You won those fair and square because it shows how strong you've grown."
"...you think so?"
"I know so." With a small smile on your face, you gently petted Wooloo. "And Wooloo does, too. Soon enough, he'll regret saying those awful things. We'll show him. Right?"
"Baaa!!" The little sheep nodded in agreement.
Hop just sat there in silence, wiping his tears away as doubt continued to fog up his mind. But when you opened your arms up to him, he accepted your hug, holding onto you tightly.
He never meant to become this depressed so early in the journey; he knew he'd be facing tough losses and not-so-polite trainers.
Though Bede's words just dug into him like a Cacturne's thorn..and he wondered if some of them were true.
But to know you didn't leave him behind was relieving, despite his worries about holding you back from getting all the gym badges. Nevertheless...he's grateful you looked for him and had his back no matter what.
"Next time, I'll have one of my ghost Pokémon hit him with a Max Phantasm." You lightly threatened.
That managed to get Hop to laugh a little, as you felt him relax in your arms. "...yeah, that oughta show him." Then he sighed, eventually letting go after a few moments longer. "I'm sorry again, [y/n]...and Wooloo..for pushing you into that fight."
The sheep nodded in understanding, returning to its pokeball at his request.
"I think..I'll focus on training my Pokémon and rearrange my team before I tackle the next gym." He leaned against the tree, eyes lingering on the pokeball with guilt. "If I'm ever gonna surpass Leon..I-I need to take my time. Form bonds..develop strategies...that's how he got to where he is today."
Then he looked to you, smiling tiredly. "Of course, you probably don't have to worry about all of that, [y/n]. You should really head onto Hammer-"
"Nah, I think..we should set up a camp here and just chill out for a little while." You suggested, standing up and offering your hand to him. "I'll cook up some delicious curry for our Pokémon. I found a killer recipe my team is addicted to."
"That sounds good, but...are you sure about-?"
"Yes."
"....alright! No need to tell me twice, mate!" That familiar sparkle in his eye returned as he grasped your hand, practically jumping to his feet as you helped him up. "That reminds me...I'm short on berries so...I'm gonna go shake that tree over there!"
Before you could see which tree he was pointing to, he took off into the tall grass that surrounded it, having his energy back. All you could do was chase after him, knowing he's gonna trip over a wild Pokémon or two.
"Hop, wait!! I have repels!!"

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Seekers of Soul
[Chapter 46]

-
Tobias and Nia say their goodbyes to Fort Asra. Following Rosalind's info, they discover some unexpected answers in the desert.
-
Tobias wakes somewhere soft. Once he blinks his eyes open against late afternoon light, he realizes he’s back at Granite and Takeo’s place, in the room he and Nia have been boarding in. Dust motes float through sunlight against a wooden ceiling.
The quiet creak of the door and soft footsteps—familiar footsteps—make Tobias raise his head.
Nia startles at the movement, then hurries over with a smile. “Hey! How’re you feeling?”
Tobias tries sitting up, then groans when that makes his body ache and his head twinge with pain. His thigh is wrapped up tight in gauze, and it itches against his scales.
Nia motions for him to lie down. “Take it easy. You got pretty roughed up.”
No kidding. Tobias rubs at his eyes. “What happened?”
“Well…what do you remember?”
Tobias grudgingly allows himself to sink back into the pile of cushions. “I remember…Calder, jumping in to fight Eddy. And Grant and Takeo. They found us?”
Nia nods, smile twisting with wry humor, “Apparently Takeo didn’t trust us to stay out of trouble. He tagged us with his silk and tracked us across the desert once he realized we snuck out. Granite grabbed Calder along the way.”
Tobias isn’t sure if he should feel angry about that or not. The townsmon did save them from a second fight with the dewott that Tobias isn’t sure they would’ve won.
“What about Eddy and the Steelix?”
“Safely in custody!” Nia chirps, looking proud. “Calder and Lara kept them subdued until some psychics from the guild could come out to grab them.”
Tobias nods as he stares up at the ceiling, something in his memory nudging at him. Something important. He vaguely remembers Nia and Samir leading him out of the cave and up the ladder. The three of them hobbling past the downed steelix (and Tobias has questions about how that happened). Then Eddy attacking them back on the surface.
But before all that, he remembers a terrifying wave of earth bearing down on him, slamming into him and burying him alive. Blackness. Then, a slow return to awareness, soft fur holding him close. Nia’s voice, shaky but relieved. A tight, borderline-painful hug.
Tobias pauses. “Did you…dig me out from that rock slide? How did you find me in all that?”
Nia winces. She looks guilty. “I, um…we couldn’t find you at first, and I was scared you were suffocating. So I found your aura.”
Tobias’ head snaps up as something in his chest stutters. “You looked at my aura?”
He must sound sharper than he means to, because Nia frowns with her ears pinned back in the way she does when she feels defensive. “I thought you might be dying!”
The sudden fear that had bubbled up in Tobias’ chest melts abruptly into shame.
“Right,” he mutters. It still sounds loud in the quiet. “I…I know you did what you had to do.” He grimaces as he peers up at her, almost not wanting to ask. “So…what’d you see?”
Nia blinks. “Oh. Um. Not much, really. I was trying not to dig too deep and I was a bit, uh…distracted. Your soul is red?”
“Red? What does that mean?”
Nia quirks a smile and shrugs. “I’d have to actually focus and look again to tell you. All I know is that you’re a deep red. Almost maroon! I could tell it was you right away. It just…felt like you.”
For some reason, Tobias feels his face heat up at that. He looks away, claws kneading into the cushion in his lap. He supposes he’s glad Nia didn’t find any terrible truths from a fleeting glimpse of his soul, even if he still feels strangely exposed that she looked at all.
There’s a moment of silence where Nia busies herself with fluffing the cushions around Tobias. He can tell she has something to say. She keeps taking a deep breath and opening her mouth, hesitating before closing it again.
“Look,” Nia finally says. “I know you just woke up, but I’m afraid I’ll lose my nerve and we need to talk about this. About…how you get, when info about Team Zenith is involved.”
Oh. Tobias’ stomach sinks as he sits up again, ignoring the exhaustion in his body. “What about it?”
Nia gives him a tired look. “You know what I mean, Tobias.”
“I’m not going to stop looking for them.”
“I’m not asking you to!” Nia groans. She takes a deep breath, rubbing at her face.
"Then what are you asking?”
“I’m not saying we need to stop looking for them,” Nia starts. “I know that you won’t stop, no matter what. But we need to start being more careful about how we tackle these missions.”
Tobias knows that by “we,” she means he has to start being more careful. He’s the one who basically forced her and Samir down into the mines because he was desperate to finish the mission as soon as possible.
He vaguely remembers her hugging him and crying into his scarf, and feels a stab of guilt. Still, he can’t seem to apologize. The words lodge in his throat like a rock. Because he knows he would do it again.
Tobias stares down at his hands and mutters, “You didn’t have to come with me.”
Nia makes an offended noise. “I wasn’t going to let you march off alone to get killed!”
“It would be my fault if I died, not yours.”
Nia throws her hands up. “It doesn’t matter whose fault it would be, it would matter that you died!”
“Would it?” Tobias scoffs.
Nia stops mid-rant, looking stunned. Then, her expression slowly melts into something almost…hurt.
“Yes,” Nia whispers. “It would.”
To Tobias’ surprise, he believes her. Nia gets attached to Pokemon stupidly quick. It makes sense that she’s managed to get attached to him, despite his prickly attitude. They do spend pretty much every day together. Still, Nia could just join Andyn’s team or something if got himself killed. She’d be fine, after a bit.
There’s a heavy moment of silence. Tobias can feel Nia’s eyes on him, so he stubbornly looks out the window, where he sees the side of another building and a glimpse of bright afternoon sunlight.
Finally, Nia sighs. “We just…we can’t keep going like this, Tobias. The seviper in Ghatha, the steelix down in the mines. Rosalind is giving us dangerous missions.”
“I know that,” Tobias says. “What are you recommending we do about it?”
Nia’s mouth flattens into a frown. “I…don’t know. But Samir and I both thought it was too dangerous, and we turned out to be right. We almost died down there because of that.”
Tobias winces, feeling guilt drop heavy onto his shoulders. He wasn’t the only one he put in danger by charging into the mines. Nia and Samir easily could’ve been killed by that steelix. That possibility does scare him. It’s just…so hard for him to think of that, when he feels that desperate itch to follow a lead.
“Can you just…listen, when we try to get you to slow down?” Nia asks. “Be a little more careful?”
Tobias mulls that over. Her request is reasonable enough. She's not asking him to avoid dangerous situations entirely, after all, just to approach them with a bit more caution.
“Fine,” he says, eventually. “I’ll try to listen if you tell me to slow down.”
Nia doesn’t seem relieved by that. Instead, she tilts her head with a little furrow to her brow. Like she’s trying to get through to him, even though he’s already agreed.
“What?” He asks. “I said I'd be more careful.”
“No, I know. I’m glad. It’s just…it feels like you’re agreeing to get me off your back, not because you think it’s the best course of action.”
“What's the difference? Look, I’ll slow down a bit when you get freaked out, okay? And I’ll make sure I don’t drag you or anyone else down with me.”
Nia’s frown grows deeper. “What about you?”
“What about me?"
Nia opens her mouth to reply, then closes it again. “You…want to get revenge, right? On Team Zenith. For taking your family away.”
“Yeah. And?”
Nia bites her lip, but holds his gaze. She looks nervous, but determined. He hates that expression on her because it usually means she’s about to do something stupid.
Finally, she says, “You can’t take revenge for your family if you’re dead. If…If you rush us into a situation and get killed for it, that revenge will never happen, right?”
Tobias blinks back at her, surprised by the riolu’s unusual bluntness. He…hadn’t really thought of it like that before, as obvious as the line of thought is. He’d always sort of figured he’d throw himself at any information and hope for the best. If he died, he died. But…it would all be for nothing then. And if that's the case, it would be worth approaching leads more cautiously not just because Nia asked him to, but because his end goal has a better chance of coming to fruition, right?
Nia continues before he can respond. “Plus, think about what it’d do to Maggie if you were killed. Or the shinx kids. And if I didn’t somehow go down with you I’d be—“
Nia cuts herself off, blinking bright ruby eyes. Her lip quivers. “W-Well. I already thought that yesterday and you saw me then. I’d be devastated if something happened to you.”
Devastated. Somehow, that seems like such an…intense word to apply to him. Tobias doesn’t know if he’s quite worth feeling “devastated” over.
“You’d get over it,” Tobias scoffs.
That makes Nia upset. He sees the blue of her aura flash through her eyes. “You’re not over your family.”
Tobias flinches back as if she’d slapped him. “Of course I’m not! But that’s different!“
“How?”
“Because they were my family!” Tobias hisses.
“Maggie’s your family too! What would she do if she lost you?”
That trips Tobias up. Maggie is his family, and he is hers. But—
“It’s not the same!”
“Why?!”
“Because I should’ve been strong enough to protect my family! And I need to be strong enough now to make Team Zenith pay for what they did. If I go and get myself killed by being an idiot, there’s no one to blame but me. Certainly not Maggie or the kids.“
“None of us would see it that way,” Nia says, voice soft. "You don’t seem to value your own life much, but other people do.”
Something sharp tangles and knots in Tobias’ chest. “Well they shouldn't! I didn't ask them to!"
“I don’t think you get to decide how much other people care about you.”
And Tobias has nothing to say to that. She’s right.
“I don’t want to talk about this anymore,” Tobias huffs, looking away. “I’m sorry, all right? For putting you and Samir in danger. I won’t do it again.”
At least that’s one truth that’s easy to tell. He’ll just face it himself next time, if it comes to that. He has to stop dragging Nia down with him.
A heavy silence falls over the room. Tobias wonders if Takeo or Granite heard them arguing. He doesn’t hear either ‘mon moving around the small building, and Granite is very easy to notice with his heavy steps.
Finally, Nia sighs. It’s a defeated sound, but Tobias has a feeling she isn’t done, even if they don’t revisit this today.
Tobias accepts the uneasy truce, closing his eyes and resting his head back against the cushions. Both because he’s growing tired again and because he needs something to do in the awkward silence. Nia reaches over and picks up the book she’d come through the door holding.
For a while, the riolu reads while he rests his eyes and avoids conversation. He tries to track how far she gets by the flutter of pages turning, but loses track after twenty. He idly wonders what she’s reading about. He doesn’t think she brought a book along when they left the guild. Did she borrow one from Granite and Takeo’s shop?
Tobias’ mind wanders then to the itchy bandage circling the cut on his thigh. And then to the fight down in the mines. Eddy wasn’t too difficult to take down, once it was three-on-one. But the steelix…the giant’s face flashes through his mind, jaws strong enough to kill with a single bite.
Tobias cracks open an eye, cataloguing his partner’s lack of injury. The last thing he remembers before waking up from that rock slide, Samir had been knocked out and Nia had been left alone with the steelix. While he's grateful for it, Tobias can't figure out how she escaped so unscathed.
“So you took down the steelix, right?” Tobias asks, unable to completely stop the disbelief in his voice. “How..?”
Nia looks up from her book, taking a moment to enter the present and register his words. “Oh! You remember those blast seeds we got from that last client?”
Tobias frowns. “Oh. Yeah. I'd almost forgotten about them.”
Nia huffs a little laugh. “I did forget about them. The only reason I remembered at all was because of Giratina.”
There’s a pregnant pause. Tobias stares at Nia, trying to process what she just said.
“Giratina?”
Nia blinks back at him. Then, she bops a paw to her forehead. “Oh! Right! I knew I was forgetting something important! He kind of, uh…showed up down in the mines? In the reflections?”
Tobias sits up, alarm swooping through his gut. “What?!”
“But he helped us!” Nia hurries to say.
“Wh—Nia, he’s—“
“I know, I know! I didn’t trust him at first either.” Nia holds out her paws in a calming gesture. Tobias glares back at her but holds his tongue. This better be good.
“But..?”
“But he helped me hide myself when the steelix passed by. I probably would’ve been crushed otherwise. And he lead me to Samir, and then both of us to you.”
Okay, there’s…a lot to unpack there. Giratina supposedly helped them? For some reason? And Nia likely would have died down in the mines if not for the legendary, which is. Great. Tobias’ subconscious will love that nightmare fuel.
Nia must see the skepticism on his face, because she breathes a laugh. “I know. It sounds crazy. But Samir can vouch for me. I guess Giratina could be pulling some kind of long con, but I don’t think any of us would’ve made it out of there without him.”
Tobias wrestles quietly with that information. He’s heard whispers here and there about Giratina all his life, and literally not a single one was flattering. Add that to the fact that Giratina has been stalking his partner and tried to forcibly yank her into the distortion world, and he’s having a hard time believing that the banished legendary might actually have decent motivations.
On the other hand, Will told them not to trust Giratina, and Tobias hates that guy. So.
“So…what? We just trust him now?” Tobias asks.
To his relief, Nia shakes her head. “I’d still like to talk to Edme first before deciding on anything. Giratina helped us, but that doesn’t necessarily mean his end goals are good.”
Tobias sits back against the cushions. “Agreed. But knowing you, I figured you'd already decided to befriend him.”
Nia sticks her tongue out at him but doesn't respond. Tobias takes that as a win.
"So you wanna catch me up on everything that happened in the mines?"
The riolu almost seems surprised by the request, before she shifts position to get more comfortable and begins to talk. Her words start out hesitant, and she peeks at him like she isn’t sure he wants to hear all the gritty details, but she picks up speed and strength as she goes on. She tells him about Giratina appearing and helping her hide, the legendary leading her and Samir to Tobias, and how she defeated the steelix with the help of the blast seeds. Tobias locks his jaw every time she trails off, clearly trying to figure out how to soften the fact that she—or he or Samir—brushed close to death yet again. He feels terrible for leaving that all on her.
But he also can’t help feeling impressed, too.
“Quick thinking,” he comments, when she reaches the end of her retelling. “And...I am sorry for leaving you to fight him alone. You shouldn’t have had to do that.”
Nia gives him a tired smile. “I’m upset that you dragged us down there in the first place, not that you got knocked out. You couldn’t help that.”
Their discussion is interrupted by a sharp knock at the door. Tobias looks up in time to see a familiar skiddo face peer through the cracked opening.
“Samir!” Nia says, sounding happy but unsurprised. “C’mon in. Tobias is up!”
The skiddo shoulders their way into the room, giving Tobias a once-over as if to gauge how injured he is. Tobias raises a brow in return. When Samir is satisfied that the charmander isn’t going to keel over, they sit down and fix him with a heavy glare.
Tobias frowns back, not appreciating the immediate ire. “What?”
Samir adopts an incredulous expression. They look to Nia, then back to Tobias, then back again.
Nia barks a laugh. “Are you asking if I scolded him yet for dragging us down there?”
Samir nods.
Tobias rolls his eyes. “Yeah, yeah, she already chewed me out about it.”
Samir closes their eyes and lifts their nose into the air as if to say, Good. Tobias gives in to the childish urge to blow a puff of smoke in the grass type’s face. Samir rears back with a wrinkled nose, kicking a small cushion at Tobias in retaliation.
“Okay, settle down!” Nia laughs, yanking the pillow from Tobias’ grip. “Now that Tobias is feeling better, I wanted to talk to you too, Samir.”
Tobias and Samir pause their feud to eye the riolu, wary. Nia’s innocent tone would normally mean something bad for Tobias, but her gaze is currently focused on Samir.
“Don’t look at me like that! I just wanted to say you fought really well down in the mines.”
Ah. Tobias sees immediately where she’s going with this. He smirks.
Samir clearly follows as well. They give Nia an unamused look.
Nia throws her hands up. “No, seriously! You were the perfect teammate!”
Samir's gaze moves to the door as if they’re legitimately thinking about getting up and leaving. Nia shoots Tobias a pleading look.
Tobias huffs. “She’s right, you know. She’s not just being nice.”
At that, Samir pauses. They fix Tobias with a solemn, searching look. Oh. They’re…actually taking Tobias seriously. He wasn’t expecting that.
Tobias clears his throat and straightens up. “You held your own down there.”
“And when we were fighting Eddy you worked perfectly with us!” Nia adds. “Totally in sync.”
Samir blinks at the two of them, wide-eyed. There’s some kind of emotion building behind their stoic expression. Tobias thinks he sees the skiddo’s mouth tremble.
Tobias snorts, trying to defuse the tension. “Your old partner’s an idiot if they thought you being mute meant you couldn’t work as a team. And your guildmaster’s an even bigger idiot if they wrote you off too.”
Nia nods emphatically.
At that, Samir ducks their head. Their shoulders shake.
“Yeah, you’d be an awesome addition to any team!” Nia adds. But this time, she looks to Tobias while Samir is distracted by wiping at their face. Her eyes are wide and hopeful as she looks between Samir and Tobias.
Oh. Tobias leans back, something like panic shooting through him. Is she really asking if she can invite the skiddo to join their team? That’s a huge decision! Not something she can just spring on him! Nia winces at his expression and makes a soothing gesture.
Tobias doesn’t say anything, warily letting her take the lead.
When Samir finally pulls themself together a bit, Nia gently says, “You know, if you ever feel like moving to the Lexym Guild, I’m sure August would love to have you. He’d get you paired up with a team in no time!”
Nia glances at Tobias, and he relaxes, giving her a tired nod. That’s…fine. No promises of a place on their team, but an offer of help and a better place for the skiddo to live. They can talk later about Nia apparently wanting to expand their team. The thought puts a pit in Tobias’ stomach, some part of him whispering that she just wants to replace her grumpy mess of a partner who keeps dragging her into death traps.
But then Nia lights up at his approving nod, tail wagging behind her, and somehow that helps ward away the bad thoughts.
“You don’t have to decide right now of course,” Nia says. “But…just keep it in mind, okay?”
Samir sniffs one last time and nods, avoiding both of their eyes. Tobias relates to the skiddo’s embarrassment when it comes to emotions, and hurriedly fishes for another topic of conversation to get the ball rolling.
Nia answers his questions about the aftermath of the mines. She tells him that he’s only been out for a day, and that Granite and Takeo didn't seem too mad about them disobeying orders and sneaking out. Apparently they just seemed relieved to see the three of them safe.
Tobias sees what she means when Granite and Takeo bring the three of them a small supper in the evening, commenting that it’s good to see Tobias up and awake. Takeo grumbles about reckless kids and their hero complexes, but there’s no real heat to the words. Nia and Samir both give Tobias pointed looks that he returns with a glare. He doesn’t have a “hero complex”—if anyone does, it’s Nia. He just has a mission to accomplish.
The rest of the night passes peacefully, with Samir leaving shortly after the meal.
By the next morning, Tobias is feeling more or less back to normal. Nia watches fretfully as he removes the bandages from his leg and checks the long, scabbed-over gash on his thigh. It’s probably going to scar, but it seems like it's healed enough to travel.
“We could rest for another day,” Nia suggests.
“We’ve got places to be,” Tobias objects, stretching his leg. “Did you get that information from Granite yet for solving the town’s earthquake problem?”
Nia shakes her head. “No. I figured since it’s from Rosalind you’d want to read it first. I can go ask Granite for it?"
At Tobias’ assent, the riolu leaves the room. Tobias takes a deep breath and rises to his feet to stretch out his sore, stiff limbs.
Rosalind promised them info on Team Zenith, on the outlaws, if they finished this mission for her. Tobias hopes it’s something substantial and doesn’t just lead them on a wild yungoos chase. They fought too hard for this not to be worth it.
After a minute or so, Tobias feels Granite’s heavy footsteps moving closer, down the hall. Nia comes pattering into the room just ahead of the donphan, moving to Tobias’ side and glancing not-so-subtly at his leg.
“Heard you were itchin’ to get movin’,” Granite greets them. The donphan has a satchel across his broad back—maybe preparing to go out for the day?
“I-I think so,” Nia says, bowing to Granite. “Thank you for everything! We really appreciate you letting us board here for the past few days.”
Granite waves her off with his trunk. “Straighten up, pup. If anything, we should be doin’ more to thank y’all. You stopped the quakes and even gave us some fresh mining work! Asra's in your debt. If you ever need help or somewhere to stay, you two know where to find us.”
Nia looks sentimental at that declaration. Tobias would bet money that she’s debating whether or not to give the older ‘mon a hug.
Before she can figure it out, Tobias clears his throat. “I’m glad we could help. Rosalind promised us some information in exchange for this mission?”
Granite’s easygoing expression fades. “Right. Listen, I know I said it before and you kids can handle yourselves, but be careful with Rosa, all right? That hatterene’s sketchier than a smeargle.”
Tobias gives an impatient nod.
“Here,” Granite sighs, digging a rolled-up piece of parchment paper out of his satchel with his trunk. “Came in from Rosa the other day, so I guess she was confident you’d get the job done. Sure hope it was worth nearly gettin’ yourselves killed.”
Tobias snatches the paper, quickly ripping it open. Nia quietly thanks Granite before crowding closer to Tobias to read over his shoulder.
Team Scarlet,
I trust that your determination will lead you to the answers our client seeks. In return, I’ve found a delightful piece of information about Team Zenith.
I have word that one of the outlaws, Asra the crobat, settled down just a few short miles from your current location.
Tobias’ breath catches. The crobat is near…here? But what does she mean by “settled down?” Is he hiding out or something? What about his other teammates? Why would he separate from them?
Tobias’ hold crinkles the paper under his hands. He reads on.
Word is that he may have taken on a new alias, going by the name Vesper.
I will warn you that this information is from two years ago, so there is a chance that the crobat has moved on to a different location. However, I thought you would still appreciate the opportunity to explore while you’re in the area.
Tobias reads on, taking in the directions to the supposed location, a few miles outside of town and just off the main road. Apparently the crobat uses a stack of stones as a marker for the turn. He and Nia must’ve passed the spot on their way into Asra without even noticing it.
Nia finishes reading before Tobias does, wordlessly pulling back. When Tobias catches up, he looks up to meet her eyes. She has an unreadable, serious expression on her face.
“Are we ready for this?” Nia murmurs.
“We have to be,” Tobias rasps in return. He glances down at the directions one more time before rolling the parchment back up. “If he is there, you can stay back. I don’t want to drag you into a fight if you don’t feel ready for it, and it’s my business anyways.”
Nia makes a quiet sound of protest, reaching out to touch his hand until he looks at her again. “I’m not leaving. We’re a team, remember? But just…try not to go running in before we can scope it out, all right? Remember what I said before. Let’s go in with a plan.”
Tobias isn’t sure how he can possibly manage that when he knows he’s about to come face-to-face with one of the outlaws who ruined his life. He’s already shaking, adrenaline buzzing beneath his skin. But Nia has a point. He can’t go running in and get himself killed before taking down the other two. Or worse, drag Nia down with him.
Stiffly, Tobias nods. Nia looks relieved, and gives his hand a squeeze before saying that she’ll get their satchel ready so they can head out. Tobias is grateful that she’s so willing to leave right away. He doesn’t think he could’ve handled having to hang around here knowing that the crobat is so close.
“Oi, little Char.”
Tobias looks back to Granite. The donphan gestures for Tobias to follow him, then shoulders aside the door and walks out into the hall, towards the front of the building where the shop is. Tobias glances at Nia before hesitantly trailing the ground-type’s thudding footsteps.
When Tobias enters the shop, he finds Granite shuffling out from between the shelves. The donphan is gently holding the little stringed guitar that Tobias had seen the first day they got to Asra.
Tobias can’t help the way his eyes linger on it, heart aching for a distant memory of music. To his surprise, Granite takes a step forward and holds the guitar out to him.
“It’s yours,” Granite says, more of a demand than a request. “A little something extra to say thanks, for all the trouble you went to to help us out. We appreciate it.”
Tobias stares at the guitar, stunned. Slowly, his hands drift out to take it. The wood is smooth and cool in his hands.
“Take good care of it now, y’hear?”
Tobias blinks, swallowing hard against a lump in his throat. Eventually, he manages to say, “Nia and Samir did most of the work.”
“I already gave the riolu a book she’s been eyeing. Just take it and don’t get yourself killed before you actually learn to play.”
Tobias, too choked up to speak, just nods his thanks, cradling the instrument close. Granite huffs in response and trundles back to the counter before Tobias can embarrass himself further.
For a moment, it’s all Tobias thinks about. He runs a thumb over one of the strings—it needs tightened and probably tuned, but the instrument is in fairly good shape. The wood is solid but flexible, a beautiful copper color and smooth to the touch, expertly carved.
He can try playing—can try making music like his family used to do, humming and singing in their cave. He can show those half-remembered melodies off to Nia, and Maggie! Maggie has a nice singing voice like his mom did and—
Like she did. Before everything. Before Team Zenith.
The rising euphoria in his chest plummets back to Earth.
Tobias doesn’t have time for this right now. He finally has a solid lead on one of the outlaws. He needs to focus on that, on what he’ll do when he meets with the crobat face-to-face.
Nia appears from the hall, worried expression lightening when she sees him holding the guitar.
Tobias ignores her probing look, taking the satchel from her to carry it himself. He carefully tucks the guitar away inside, making sure it’s cushioned by softer items. He feels hesitant to put it away, but he can always try it out later, once this is dealt with. This is more important.
“So we’re heading out right away?” Nia asks.
“Yeah.”
Nia nods, glancing at Granite. “Let me say goodbye to a few people. I’ll keep it quick.”
Tobias sighs, but gestures impatiently for her to get on with it.
He trails behind her as she says her thanks and goodbyes to Granite and Takeo. Granite gives them both hearty slaps on the back and tells them not to die. Takeo sends them off with a quiet blessing from his ancestors. Nia, of course, almost cries, giving them both a watery smile and a wave as they step off the porch.
“We only knew them for a few days,” Tobias points out, both exasperated and amused.
“So?” Nia sniffs. “It doesn’t matter how long you know someone. I’ll still miss them.”
Nia makes a point to stop by Deidra’s ruined saloon next, where the construction has been halted in Eddy’s absence. Luckily, Deidra (and Cody, staying close to her side like a comforting mountain) don’t seem angry with Nia and Tobias for arresting one of their own. They both thank the two of them for stopping the dewott before anyone else could get hurt. Deidra even refills Nia’s canteen and hands Tobias a few hydration berries for the journey ahead, giving them a wink.
Nia leads them to the edge of town next, where Calder and Samir are standing outside of Lara’s house.
“Word is you two are heading out,” Calder says, tipping his head in a capless greeting. “You sure you’re feeling well enough to get back on the road?”
Samir looks at them with an unreadable expression.
“We’ve rested enough,” Tobias says, hiking the satchel higher on his shoulder. “We have somewhere we need to be.”
At his side, Nia offers a helpless shrug and an apologetic smile of agreement.
“Hm.” Calder looks at them for a moment with lidded eyes. Then, he nods. “Well, you two take care of yourself. I’ll be sure to pass along word to the guild about your help.”
“Oh,” Nia says, exchanging a surprised look with Tobias. They’d thought they weren’t going to get any recognition for this one, since it wasn’t an official mission. “Thank you!”
“Least I can do,” Calder scoffs, for a moment looking a bit self-deprecating. Then he shakes his head. “You two take care of yourselves, all right? No more jumping into dangerous situations without backup.”
Nia gives Tobias a pointed jab with her elbow. Tobias hisses under his breath and elbows her back.
Calder almost looks amused. Then, he tips his head to them again. “Let me know if y’all ever need any help. Asra’s authority has your back.”
And with that, the inteleon strides off, leaving them alone with Samir. This silence feels a bit heavier, a bit more loaded with indecision and emotion.
Eventually, Nia says, “I meant what I said yesterday, you know. The Lexym Guild would be happy to have you as a Seeker.”
Samir’s stiff posture and hard expression soften, just a bit, under Nia’s reminder. They sigh, then write in the dirt.
THANKS
WILL THINK ABOUT IT
NEED TO HELP TOWN RECOVER
Nia looks disappointed, but smiles all the same. “That’s sweet of you to hang around and get everyone back on their feet.”
“Just don’t let your old partner or your guild push you around,” Tobias gruffs.
Samir gives them a small, subdued smile and a nod. Nia sniffles. Tobias isn’t at all surprised to look over and see her blinking back tears, mouth wobbly.
“Arceus,” he huffs, rolling his eyes.
“What? It was great having Samir with us!” Nia defends, voice wavering. She turns back to the skiddo. “Really. We’ll miss you. Take care, okay? Hopefully we see you sooner rather than later.”
Samir seems caught off-guard by the riolu’s emotions. They fluster, shuffling their hooves for a moment before nodding and writing, YOU TOO.
Nia does start crying at that, just a little bit. Samir, panicked, steps closer as if to try and help, and Nia takes the opportunity to give them a parting hug.
Tobias stuffs down a sharp jab of annoyance and rolls his eyes. “Nia.”
Nia frees Samir, who looks embarrassed by the affection as they take a step back, straightening their posture. Tobias spots a zebstrika-pulled cart ahead, being loaded up with goods and likely about to head out.
He nudges Nia. “We need to get going if we want to try hitching a ride.”
“Oh! Right. Thanks again, Samir. Stay safe.”
Tobias hurries over to the pair of zebstrika hooked up to the cart, asking if he and Nia could hitch a ride a few miles outside of town. The electric types request a few poké in return, which Tobias grudgingly hands over.
Soon enough, the two of them are bouncing along atop a small cart of goods. They slowly trundle up the narrow path circling the canyon wall, watching Fort Asra shrink below them, a deep blue sky overhead and a canyon of warm, bright tans below.
It’s past noon by time they catch sight of the landmark listed on the map: a large stack of stones at the side of the road, taller than Tobias and Nia combined. Tobias calls for the cart to stop so they can disembark, waving off the zebstrika with a word of thanks.
As the cart wheels away, leaving a faint cloud of dust in its wake, Nia leans in to peer at the directions over Tobias’ shoulder. “You’re sure this is the right place?”
“Rosalind’s info says this is the landmark.” He squints at the dirt ahead, trying to summon up some of Samir’s tracking abilities. “Am I losing it, or is there a trail here?”
Nia tilts her head, as if that’ll help her see better. “…Maybe?” She takes a deep breath, nose twitching.
Tobias suddenly recalls Fen’s words from long ago, when Nia first showed up. “Hey, why don’t you ever use your nose to try tracking?”
Nia looks over her shoulder, as if he’s talking to someone else. She looks back to him, bewildered. “Me?”
He rolls his eyes. “Yes, you! You see any other riolu out here?”
Nia frowns and looks down at her nose, cross-eyed. “I…I guess I’ve never tried? I usually try to ignore my nose when we go places, since smells are so strong in this body. It all just jumbles together and gets really overwhelming.”
Tobias supposes that makes sense. He keeps Rosalind’s instructions out but starts a tentative path forward across the rocky desert landscape, trying to follow the faint remains of a path he thinks he sees. “So humans don’t use their noses to track?”
Nia laughs, which gives him his answer. “Nope! We can use scent dogs to track things, but our sense of smell isn’t good enough for that. Do you really think I could learn to do that?”
“Yeah? You’re a riolu. You just gotta…learn to separate the smells or something.”
“Ah, of course. Why didn’t I think of that?”
Tobias gives her a dry look, before turning back to the map. He only looks at it in short glimpses, sparing the rest of his attention for their surroundings. He doesn’t want to be caught off-guard by anyone, even if everything is so bright and open out here that it’d be hard to sneak up on them.
“Maybe we can find a tracker when we get back to the guild,” Tobias says after a few minutes, hearing Nia taking deep breaths as if trying to absorb the desert scents.
“That would be cool,” Nia murmurs, distracted as she takes another lungful of air. “It’s actually easier out here, since there aren’t a lot of different things to smell.”
Tobias hums and they continue on, scrabbling over rocky terrain and scraggly plants, occasionally ducking under low rock formations. Tobias enjoys the sun against his skin, more than comfortable encased in heat, but Nia has to dig out her water flask within minutes and needs to take periodic breathers in patches of cooler shade. Tobias tries to be patient and not rush her, knowing riolu aren’t built for this climate like he is.
Eventually, Tobias spots another stack of stones shimmering in the desert heat, and he steers them in that direction even as he increases his wary glances around the environment. He does feel better about seeking out the crobat in the height of the day, when he would naturally be asleep, but he doesn’t want them to be caught off-guard. The crobat’s hideout is only supposed to be a mile or so off the main road, after all.
It's late afternoon when Tobias finally spots something out of place in the distance: a small Pokemon-made structure, high off the ground and built into the side of a rocky spire. He points it out to Nia, putting Rosalind’s directions away, and the two of them tread closer on quiet feet.
When they’ve gotten close enough, they crouch behind some nearby rocks and peer up at the strange structure. Tobias isn’t sure exactly what he was expecting, but it wasn’t…this.
The building almost looks quaint. Like a little house. It’s a small wooden structure built into the side of a spire of rock, 15 yards or so off the ground. A rickety, narrow staircase zigzags up the rock face to lead to the front door. Most baffling, there are flowers growing in a basket on the windowsill, and colorful, almost scribble-like markings on the side of the rocky spire that Tobias can’t decipher from here.
“It kind of looks like a house,” Nia murmurs, sounding as confused as he feels.
“Don’t let your guard down."
This has to be a trap or something. He pulls out the letter from Rosalind again, scanning it to be sure they got the directions right. Not like they’ve seen any other buildings since leaving Asra—they’re truly in the desolate emptiness of the desert now. Only someone hiding away from the world or wanting to go completely off the grid would choose to live out here.
Could Asra—or Vesper, or whatever he’s going by—really be here? Tobias has to admit this place doesn’t look like somewhere a murderous outlaw would be hiding, but maybe that’s the point.
“Maybe we should stake it out for a bit,” Nia suggests, eyeing Tobias worriedly as if expecting him to run up to the door with his claws out and flames burning.
Tobias grunts his agreement, sitting down and peering around the edge of the rock to keep his eyes locked on the building’s front door.
This just…doesn’t feel right. Tobias always imagined when he came face-to-face with any of the outlaws from Team Zenith, it’d be an immediate fight to the finish, out in the wilds. Not…this. Not waiting for the crobat to show up and…what? Water his flowers?
Some part of Tobias wants to laugh. Another part of him feels sick to his stomach. He can’t pinpoint exactly why, but his heart is slowly speeding up. Rosalind did say that the information was from a few years back. Could the crobat have moved on?
He continues to stare down the door. Waiting. Distantly, he hears Nia ask him something once or twice, but he can’t seem to pull his focus back to her. It feels like he has to keep all of his attention on that door, no matter what. Like it’s a matter of life and death.
Slowly, the minutes tick by in tense silence. The sun sinks lower, edging towards sunset.
Tobias is only broken out of the spell when he hears a noise of some kind from inside the structure. A high shriek. He stands, tensed and ready to run for the door. What was that? Does someone need help? Is the crobat hurting someone in there right now?
Before he can move from their hiding spot, Nia grabs his arm. He jumps, startled by the sudden touch.
“Wait,” She whispers. “I hear—”
The door slams open, and high-pitched laughter spills out. Two small shapes burst outside and unfurl their wings, giggling and circling each other in the air with quick, frenetic wingbeats. Too small to be the crobat, and neither one is the right color. Plus their voices are too young.
“Kids?” Nia murmurs, sounding just as confused as Tobias feels.
“Be back at midnight for supper!” A voice calls from inside the house. A moment later, the distinct angular ears and pink heart nose of a swoobat leans out the door.
The two kids flap their wings to hover in place, finally still enough to see. They’re little more than tiny blue puffballs with matching heart noses and toothy grins. Something about them feels slightly strange, though, and it puts Tobias on edge.
“Okay, Mom!”
“And don’t play too close to any unstable rocks. You know the rules.”
The kids—woobats—groan but agree before zipping away.
The swoobat sighs and mutters something to herself before propping open the door and heading back inside.
Tobias stares at where the psychic-type disappeared, his stomach sinking. There’s…a family living here, which means the crobat has to have moved on. Surely he’s not sticking around the area, not with witnesses living so close by. They seem comfortable here, too. Familiar. Like they've lived here for a while.
“He’s not here,” Tobias says, toneless. They missed another lead. He rubs at his face, trying to decode and push away whatever wave of emotion is lapping at his heels. Whatever it is, it doesn’t feel good. “Great.”
Nia glances back at the house. “Maybe this family has an idea of where he could’ve gone?”
“You think the wanted murderer made nice with the neighbors before going on the run?”
Nia twists her mouth in a way that means she isn’t exactly hopeful about the possibility herself. Still, she stands and says, “I’m going to go ask. No harm in checking, right?”
She says it as if she’s going to go alone, but Tobias immediately straightens up to follow her. He’s not going to sit down here and have her do the investigating for him.
Nia relents, leading the way to the base of the old wooden stairs built into the side of the rockface. The wood creaks and dips under their weight, but doesn’t give. As they climb, the bright markings on the side of the spire become much clearer with proximity. Tobias can see now that they’re wobbly, messy children’s drawings. Like the ones he and Vivi used to make on the inside of their cave growing up. He swallows hard and moves his eyes back to the steps.
As they reach the top landing, the faint sound of humming that Tobias had barely registered cuts off. A moment later, the swoobat pokes her head out of the doorway, ears perking and eyes growing wide at the sight of Nia and Tobias.
“Oh! Hello there. Are you two lost?”
Tobias opens his mouth to answer, then thinks better of it when he already feels off-kilter.
Nia steps in. “Hello! No, we were actually looking for someone, but it doesn’t look like he’s here. We were wondering if you maybe knew him before you moved in?”
The swoobat relaxes at the question, stepping out onto the makeshift porch. She’s holding a small dish towel between her wings. “I’ve lived here since this house was built, actually.”
Tobias looks up at the swoobat’s face, startled. “What?”
“Oh!” Nia seems equally unprepared for that statement. “W-Well, um. Do you happen to know of anybody living nearby named Asra? O-Or Vesper.”
“A crobat,” Tobias adds, voice tight.
The swoobat drops the dish towel, fluffy collar puffing with surprise. Then, her ears lower as her expression weighs down with something deeply sad. “Vesper? Yes, he…he was my mate.”
Tobias’ breath catches. He stares at the swoobat as his mind fumbles and blanks. Thoughts drain away from him like water.
Mate?
“Was?” Nia echoes gently, after a moment of stunned silence.
The swoobat takes a shuddering, bracing breath, picking up the dish towel with her flexible pink tail. “Yes. Vess passed a little over a year ago, after an accident. I’m…I’m sorry you had to find out this way. I didn’t know many of his friends to notify them.”
Through a numbing static, Tobias hears Nia stutter, “O-Oh! No, we weren’t—I mean…”
“He’s dead?” Tobias rasps.
The swoobat squeezes her eyes shut tight, as if pained by the very reminder. “Yes. Would you like to see his resting place? I’m sure he’d appreciate you stopping by.”
Nia glances at Tobias like he's a live bomb, clearly worried that he’s about to fall apart. Strangely, Tobias feels blank instead. Hollow. His mouth responds for him. “Yes.”
The swoobat gives him a sympathetic look. She asks him and Nia to meet her back at the bottom of the stairs before gliding off the edge of the wooden platform and spiraling down.
Nia turns to him immediately. “Tobias—"
“Let’s go,” He says. “I want to see it.”
Nia looks like she wants to argue. But then she nods, moving towards the stairs and waiting for him to match her steps. As if he might fall off if she moves even a step ahead of him.
Tobias doesn’t register much in the next few minutes. He vaguely feels himself moving down the steps. Realizes at some point that he and Nia are following the swoobat a short distance away across dirt and desert sand to a small cave. The psychic-type’s soft, compassionate voice grates on his ears. Nia is a warm weight glued to his side. He matches her steps, unable to do much else.
And then he’s there, standing in a tiny cave surrounded by cool air. Bright sunset light spills in from behind, painting everything warm against heavy shadows. The swoobat has left, probably for their privacy. Nia has taken a step away to give him space, but he can feel the weight of her gaze.
In front of Tobias sits a small monument, carefully carved and lovingly cared for. Desert flowers and dried berries sit at its foot, carefully arranged.
Vesper
Beloved Mate and Father
Now One with Lunala’s Stars
Among the offerings, Tobias sees a simple painting, likely made by the two children they’d glimpsed earlier. There’s a large purple blob surely meant to represent the crobat, smiling with wide white fangs. Two smaller, bluer blobs sit happily under his wings.
And somehow that is what brings Tobias’ emotions roaring back.
He thinks of the two woobat he saw earlier, about how they felt slightly off to him. He realizes now what it was. They were just a bit speedier than Tobias would expect of such young Pokemon. As fast as the blur of violet wings from his memory. Their fluffy fur just a shade closer to violet than blue.
The crobat who helped destroy his family, who ruined his life, had kids. Had a mate, and a home. He had happiness, after ripping all of that away from Tobias. And he didn’t even have the decency to live long enough to look Tobias in the eye when he came to ask why.
Rage pours through Tobias, hotter than any flame he’s ever wielded.
One instant he’s at Nia’s side. The next, he’s lunging forward with a feral cry. The children’s painting is torn to shreds beneath his claws. The flowers and berries are set ablaze in a flash of fire, bright and hot. He lunges for the stone next, aiming to crack it against the wall until it snaps and crumbles.
Strong arms hook around his middle, yanking him back.
Tobias’ responding snarl almost drowns out Nia’s call of his name, but she only tightens her grip. He writhes and tries to get traction on the dirt, but she drags him back, towards the opening of the cave. Once they’re a few feet away, she swings him around and lets go, standing as a barrier between him and his target. She’s panting, wide-eyed.
“Move!” Tobias snaps.
“T-Tobias, I know you’re upset but—”
“Move!” Tobias snarls, embers spitting from his mouth.
“Tobias, you need to take a second and—”
“Don’t tell me what I need!” He hisses. He tries to push through Nia’s stance, only for her to catch him and lock her hands with his, leaving them eye to eye and straining for ground.
“Tobias, she’s going to come back and see—"
“So what?! She needs to know! She should know that her mate killed a family in cold blood!”
“That won’t help anything!” Nia says through gritted teeth. “What will that accomplish?! Make her feel guilty for loving someone so horrible? Make her kids feel like there’s something tainted in their blood? It won’t help anyone! He’s dead!”
“Maybe they deserve to live with it!” Tobias shouts. He feels panicked as his rage falters into something heavier. Traitorous tears prick hot at the back of his eyes. “Someone should have to!”
Nia falters, eyes going wide. Tobias could break through easily now, if he tried. Instead, he tightens his grip on her hands, trying to stoke his rage back to its full power.
“What right do you have to stop me?! You don’t get it!”
“Tobias,” Nia murmurs, looking uncertain. “I…”
Tobias stares at her, panting, as tears bubble up in his eyes. He’s shaking as the rage mixes with grief in his chest, boiling under his skin both ice cold and magma hot.
“You don’t get it,” he repeats, voice breaking.
Nia stares at him, brow furrowed. Slowly, her hold loosens. She slips free of him, stepping back and out of Tobias’ way. She looks at the memorial, then him, then away.
“You’re right. I-I…I don’t understand. But if this will help, then…I won’t stop you.”
Tobias…doesn’t know what to do with that. His fury has already started to die down after the riolu’s interruption. The magma has hardened to something heavy and horrible, weighing him down. He doesn’t want to sit with that. He wants the fire back.
Tobias staggers forward, back to the memorial. His feet brush through fine ash, still smoldering. He stares at the gravesite through his tears, the delicate carvings of a crobat and lunala blurring. He raises a hand, claws at the ready, but can’t seem to bring it down. That just makes him feel worse.
Tobias swallows thickly, a sob shuddering from his chest. He came here with the intent of taking the crobat down, taking him into custody or even killing him if it came to it. He'd thought for eight years about the questions he would get answers to, the vindication he would feel tearing down one of the monsters who destroyed his life.
Instead, he’s at the grave of a Pokemon who had a mate and kids, who had a family that loved him. It feels…twisted. Wrong. Like he’s in a bad dream.
Tobias’ legs give out beneath him, and he leans forward to rest his head on the stone, cries ripping from his throat. The ugly thing in his chest doesn’t seem to die down, only raging on and on and on.
He can feel it, when Nia hesitantly joins him. She kneels at his side.
He looks up at her, gut churning with nausea. “Why did he get to be happy? He didn’t—he didn’t deserve to…”
Nia’s expression crumbles, and for a moment Tobias thinks she might start crying too. “I don't know,” she says, soft. She hesitantly slides a paw up to rub circles into his back. “I’m sorry, Tobias.”
Tobias doesn’t realize he’s leaning into her until she's already wrapping him up in a hug. He hugs her back tight enough to hurt, but the pressure and the warmth and the soft texture of her fur helps, somehow. It feels grounding. Gives him something to latch onto aside from the turbulent waves of his emotions.
He doesn’t know how long he cries, soaking Nia’s fur and shuddering through waves of nausea. She murmurs quiet, meaningless comforts to him. Rocks with him and uses her thumbs to trace soothing circles against his back.
By time Tobias is somewhat calm again, he feels like the wrung-out dish rag the swoobat had been holding earlier. Flimsy and worn, with a few holes and gritty stains left behind.
The light coming in from the cave’s opening is now gray and weak, dusk on the cusp of night.
Tobias sniffs, staring sightlessly at the ruined bits of the memorial beneath them, now nothing more than scattered ash blending in with the dirt floor.
“I want them to hurt, too,” Tobias says, voice tight. “I know I shouldn’t.”
Nia squeezes him tighter.
“I know they didn’t do anything wrong. They didn’t know, but…”
Before Tobias can fully form that thought, he sniffs and leans away from Nia, wiping at his eyes. It feels cold without her so close.
They both look at the gravestone in front of them, so carefully carved and lovingly cared for. But it’s alone, out here in the wilderness. He can’t touch anyone else, buried six feet under and miles from civilization.
It still feels too good for him. Some part of Tobias still wants to kick the headstone over and scorch it black. He wants to dig up the crobat’s bones and scatter them in the desert sand. But that part of him feels ugly and too much like the monster buried in front of him, so he tries to let it make itself known before passing through his mind.
A quiet sound at the mouth of the cave catches Nia’s attention, and Tobias follows her gaze.
The swoobat has returned, framed by dusk light. Her round eyes are focused on the absence of gifts at the foot of the grave, at the ashes left in their wake. Tobias expects her to be upset, to yell and chase them out. Instead, her gaze moves to Tobias, brow furrowing into something like realization.
There’s a heavy moment of silence.
Finally, the swoobat breaks it, stepping forward. “Vess always held a lot of…regret. For something that happened in his past. He wouldn’t tell me about it, but he mentioned that it’s why he parted ways from his team all those years ago and settled down near Asra. It’s where he was born.”
Before Tobias can respond to that, the swoobat’s gaze flicks away, nervous.
“He was very upset once. When we bumped into a charmander at the market to the south. Wouldn’t talk for a week. D-Did…did something..?”
Tobias feels the weight of expectation settle onto him, but he’s so tired that it barely registers what he’s hearing. How is he supposed to react to this revelation? How is he supposed to feel knowing that the crobat apparently felt some measure of guilt for what he was a part of? That he was upset about it?
Ha. Lot of good guilt does. Doesn’t bring back his family.
The embers of rage spark back to life. Not blazing, but hot enough to put Tobias’ limbs into motion. Tobias staggers to his feet, then towards the swoobat. The psychic-type stands strong and stares back at him, expression resolute even as her body trembles.
She’s scared. Terrified that Tobias is going to tell her something she never wanted to hear. That he’s going to ruin the memory of her beloved mate and the father to her kids. Tobias wants to. He wants to watch her face fall with shock and horror. Wants to spread the terrible grief caused by the crobat’s actions like a toxin.
But Tobias thinks of Nia’s words. Thinks of those kids. Thinks of how much guilt he carries for not being strong enough to protect his sister. Thinks how terrible he would feel for someone he loved and admired to be responsible for such loss.
“Your mate,” Tobias finally spits. “Wasn’t a good Pokemon. At least he wasn’t a terrible father.”
The words feel like acid in his throat. He doesn’t know if leaving her in the dark is a mercy or a punishment. He shoves past the swoobat, stomping away into the desert. Away from their happy little home and the gravestone of a murderer.
He walks, and walk, and walks. Lets the rhythm of the motion replace his thoughts. Eyes ahead, unseeing of the desert around him.
Tobias doesn’t come back to himself until he stumbles over a stone in the ground. He catches himself on his hands and knees, scuffing them. The pain seems to jog something in his brain, because he suddenly settles back into the shell of his body.
The dirt is cooling quickly beneath him with the falling night. Nia is at his side, watching silently. Overhead, stars glitter like layers of crystal. Tobias thinks he can hear the distant laughter of the woobat children.
“Tobias?” Nia asks, soft voice loud in the night air.
“Should I have told her?”
Nia falters. Then, almost too quiet to hear, she murmurs, “I don’t know.”
Tobias takes a deep breath, letting it out in a puff of steam that wisps and curls. He stands. “Let’s go.”
“A-Are you sure?”
Tobias nods, rubbing at his sore, tired eyes. “Let’s just…go find Edme. We still need to learn more about Giratina."
Nia stares at him with worried eyes. She must be able to tell that he’s just looking for something else to focus on. That he just wants to leave, and not think about any of this for a while. That he wants to get some distance between himself and the sweet little family his personal monster left behind.
Tobias expects her to bring it up, to say that they need to talk about it. Instead, Nia slowly nods, reaching out to slip their satchel off Tobias’ shoulder and over her own. She hesitates, then reaches out a paw to take his hand, gently tugging him into motion. Tobias doesn’t fight her, grateful as she leads his unmoored body back towards the road.

This has no real point, just two Train people and their large amount of Pokémon
Emmet & Ingo with their army of pokemon. (I was gonna draw these two and their army of pokemon, but the programme i use just isn't working-)
Tumblr media
There's probably more joltiks around, you'd never know.
(Side note, I admitedly did edit Ingo's Hisuian team- Why? Uhm- I have no solid reason, I just wasn't a huge fan of his in-game team. I'm sorry-)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have my reasons as to why I switched up the team- Some were influenced from comics I've read on tumblr n elsewhere.
Garchomp - It's the closest pokemon to Haxorus there is in Hisui/Ancient Sinnoh, besides, he would've caught a Gible while up in the Coronet Highlands. (Psst, it knows earthquake.)
Rotom - This one is pretty simple tbh. He would've found one while the player is fighting the Electrode. It, like pretty much all his pokemon, would remind him of something from his past- The electrical power of some form of machine. (That ranges from modern day technology to Subway trains)
Steelix - Now this one. It's size, length and the sheer amount of noise it makes when moving around in caves and tunnels reminds him of something extremely familiar. It bugs him for quite sometime until eventually his mind connects the tracks and he remembers what trains are. (+The battle Subway/Gear station)
Zorua - I've seen it been said a number of times now. The colour scheme of Hisuian Zorua and Zoroark match Emmet almost perfectly. Like, come on now, surely Ingo would see these pokemon and at least think "Hmm. Those colours are familiar. Probably nothing-" and then at somepoint maybe he'd remember his brother.

Gym Leader Pokespe AU
This is basically an au where the dexholders are gym leaders. I picked what types they use based on which type is the most populous in their teams for the most part, but there are cases where a) there are no repeat types in their team, b) I don't think that specific type fits them or c) someone needs to take that type for some variety. I am also making their teams as if they were the 8th gym leader, so you can just imagine the pre-evolutions for earlier gyms.
Red: Fighting type gym. Yes I know Red had 2 water types on his team but I do not see him as water type gym leader. Also he's the Fighter so…His gym is located in Saffron City, Sabrina finally gets booted like she deserves, in place of the Fighting Dojo. He has a strength gym puzzle, if you place the boulders correctly around the room a door opens up that leads you to him but if you fail a trap door opens under you and you fall into a room filled with trainers. There are also Machokes in the room with the puzzle that will try to mess with things so you have to defeat them if you don't want to restart everything. His team is: Hitmontop, Machamp, Hitmonlee, Primeape, Hitmonchan and Poliwrath. Poliwrath is obviously the ace. If you win you get the Dynamic Badge and the TM for Dynamic Punch.
Green: So I know Green already is a gym leader, but I still wanted to give him a monotype team, so…he's a Steel type gym leader now. Did I choose steel simply because I like Scizor a lot? Absolutely. Do I regret it?…partially. I am trying to give them teams that mostly have pokemon from their home region…but Kanto has like…two steel types and that is the Magnemite line so…yeah I had to get some other generation steel types in here. But anyways, onto the gym puzzle…it's the exact same, hooray! His team is: Skarmory, Steelix, Alolan Sandslash, Magnezone, Aegislash and Scizor. I know none of these are gen I pokemon…but I'm doing my best. Steelix, Magnezone and Scizor are evolutions of Kanto pokemon, Alolan Sandslash is an alternate form of a Kanto pokemon and Aegislash he could have picked up while he was in Kalos. Skarmory is there just to set up Stealth Rocks. Scizor is his ace. If you win you get the now renamed Metallic Badge and the TM for Iron Defense.
Blue: So before Fairy was introduced, Blue basically had 4 normal types on her team, so she's a Normal type gym leader. Her gym is located in Vermilion City, since you use a boat from there to get to the Sevii Islands so I think it works for her. Her gym puzzle is basically a sales pitch. You craft some items, like TMs or potions and then you try to convince the gym trainers to buy them. You need to get 1000 pokedollars from your sales if you want to fight Blue. If you don't manage to convince the gym trainers to buy, you have to fight them for the money. Her team is: Ditto, Persian, Kangaskhan, Chansey, Snorlax and Wigglytuff as the ace. If you win you get the Craft Badge and the TM for Hyper Beam.
Yellow: Electric type gym. Pikachu is her whole thing, it would be wrong not to make her an electric type gym leader. Her gym is located in Pewter City since it's the other city close to Viridian Forest. Her gym puzzle is finding 'injured' pokemon in Viridian Forest and healing them. They're not really injured, they're pretending to be for the puzzle. Around the forest there are gym trainers that will battle you to prevent you from helping the injured pokemon. Her team is: Electrode, Jolteon, Electivire, Raichu, Alolan Golem and a Pikachu with a Light Ball to make it strong enough to be her ace. I did not give her any pokemon from the Magnemite line because I don't want 2 gym leaders from the same pokemon line in one region. So she gets Alolan Golem, an alternate form of a Kanto pokemon and Electivire is there because it makes sense as the evolution of a Kanto mon. If you win you get the Lightning Badge and the TM for Thunderbolt.
Gold: Fire type gym. So, personally when I think of Gold the first pokemon that pop into my mind are Togetaro, Mantaro, Explotaro and Ataro, since they are his most iconic in my opinion. So it was a choice between these 4 and since Typhlosion is my favourite starter, he's now a fire type gym leader. His gym is located in Goldenrod City, since it's next to the Day Care. RIP Whitney's Miltank, you will not be missed. His gym puzzle is hatching 4 pokemon eggs and delivering the babies to their mothers. You have 20 minutes after the first egg hatched to deliver them and gym trainers will do their best to stop you, either by stealing the baby pokemon or by putting obstacles in your path. His team is: Arcanine, Magmortar, Ninetales, Magcargo, Houndoom and Typhlosion as his ace. If you win you get the Hatching Badge and the TM for Blast Burn. Yes ik in the pokespe world this is not a TM but let me have this, I swear I have a legitimate reason for giving them the ultimate moves as TMs.
Silver: Water type gym. Silver has 3 water types on his team, ain't no way I am giving him something else. Sorry Weavile. His gym is located in Blackthorn City simply because we cannot have 2 Kingdra trainers in one region and also fuck Clair, she sucks. His gym is a trading game, you give your pokemon to the Gym guide and he distributes them among some of the gym trainers, then you have to trade using rented pokemon to get them back. However if you ask someone to trade and you do not have the required pokemon they will challenge you to a battle using your own pokemon and another pokemon that you might need for another trade. After you get your team back you can challenge Silver. I feel like his gym would be very popular among people that want to evolve their pokemon but don't have friends to trade with. His team is: Shiny Gyarados, Lanturn, Azumarill, Slowking, Kingdra and Feraligatr as his ace. If you win you get the Trading Badge and the TM for Hydro Cannon.
Crystal: Mega is absolutely her most iconic pokemon and since Parasee is part grass, this makes it her most populous type on her team. Technically so is Psychic due to Chumee and Xatee but we'll ignore that. So she's a Grass type gym leader. Her gym is located in Violet City since that's where the orphanage/Pokémon Academy is located. Her gym puzzle is catching specific pokemon that can be found in the grass in her gym. You get 10 of each pokeball and you have to catch a pokemon for each one. The gym trainers will try to stop you either by catching a pokemon before you can get it, scaring pokemon away or battling you. Her team is: Parasect, Jumpluff, Exeggutor, Bellossom, Vileplume and Meganium as her ace. If you win you get the Catching Badge and the TM for Frenzy Plant. So, for the record, I did not plan for the Johtrio to be a fire, grass, water trio, it happened on accident as I was deciding the types for their gyms and I decided to just roll with it and have them match by giving all 3 the ultimate moves as TMs.
Ruby: Fairy type gym. Fairy is like a very pretty type and Ruby is someone who values beauty so it works. Also I refuse to make him a water type gym leader. Sorry Mimi. His gym is in Lilycove City because that's where the Master Rank Pokémon Contests are held. His gym puzzle is basically a bastardized version of a Pokémon Contest, the only difference is that if you don't get a high enough score you have to battle a gym trainer. Ruby, Wallace and White via video call are the judges. His team is: Mawile, Wigglytuff, Clefable, Togekiss, Azumarill and Gardevoir as his ace. Ruby is in a similar situation to Green, not a lot of fairy types in Hoenn so I borrowed from other generations. Also since this is a different region Wigglytuff is fair game for Ruby to have. If you win you get the Beauty Badge and the TM for Charm.
Sapphire: Rock type gym. Imma be honest, I did not know what to do with Sapphire, so I just took all the types of her team, put them on a wheel and it landed on rock so…yeah. If you're disappointed in me, trust me, so am I. The gym is in Rustboro City because we cannot have 2 rock type gym leaders. Her gym puzzle is basically the tower defense game, you get to construct your own secret base and you have to defend it from invaders, be they wild pokemon or gym trainers. If you manage to successfully defend your base for 30 minutes, Sapphire will come to your base to battle you. She's basically the final boss. Her team is: Relicanth, Armaldo, Cradily, Kabutops, Tyranitar and Aggron as her ace. I gave her Tyranitar to make up for the fact that she has Relicanth, Armaldo and Cradily. I feel like these three's uselessness balances out Tyranitar's power. People who play competitive pokemon know what I'm talking about. If you get past Tyranitar you win the Corundum Badge and the TM for Sandstorm. Fun fact, corundum is what sapphires are made of.
Emerald: Psychic type gym. Emerald was the exact opposite of Sapphire, the moment I looked at him I was like, 'Psychic, Emerald is a Psychic gym leader and I will not take any criticism'. He also has a connection with Jirachi, Latias and Latios, who are all psychic types so it works. His gym is in Mossdeep City because again, we cannot have 2 psychic gym leaders. In his gym you are handed a slingshot and small capsules with soil from a pokemon's birthplace. In the gym there are wild angry pokemon you have to shoot the soil at to calm them down. After all of the pokemon are calm you can challenge Emerald. Gym trainers will attempt to anger the pokemon again and if you want them to stop you have to defeat them in battle. His team is: Grumpig, Medicham, Claydol, Starmie, Xatu and Mr. Mime as his ace. If you win you get the Shooter Badge and the TM for Psychic.
Platina: Ghost type gym. This is the exact thing that happened with Green, I really like Froslass so she gets to be a ghost type gym leader. Her gym is located in Hearthome City because Fantina exists so we have to steal her gym. Her gym puzzle is a trivia game combined with an escape room. You get into a room and are given a piece of paper, a feather, the TM for Thief and an Ultra Ball. On the paper there are 3 pokemon listed: Mismagius, Bastiodon and Milotic. Bastiodon's Sinnoh Dex number, #039, ends up being the combination to a safe. You open it and you get a scale. The scale is a clue that leads you to figuring out you need to know the weight of Mismagius, 4.4 kg and with that you find out how much weight you need to put on a pressure plate. A door opens and you get led to another room where you find a plastic copy of the Griseous Orb, a stick and a wild Misdreavus. You use the Ultra Ball to cath Misdreavus and teach it Thief. You also find out it's holding rope. Milotic is 6.2 m long which is how much rope you need to create a pulley system using other items from the room that allows you to open a rusted trap door. You jump into the room and find a Glameow that is very skittish and won't stay still. You use the feather, a stick and some leftover rope to create a toy that will distract the cat long enough for the Misdreavus to use Thief and steal the item the cat had around it's neck. It is a locket with a picture of Giratina, you insert the fake Griseous Orb into the wall and a door opens up to a room where you finally reach Platina. If you don't manage to escape in less than an hour you get taken out of the room and have to beat 6 gym trainers. Her team is: Rotom, Drifblim, Gengar, Spiritomb, Mismagius and Froslass, with the ice type as her ace. If you win you get the Apparition Badge and the TM for Shadow Ball.
Diamond: A Normal type gym leader, because he has 3. This is our first repeat type because there are more dexholders than there are pokemon types. His gym is in Pastoria City because it's in between Hearthome and Sunyshore, which are the gyms of his friends. His gym is a cooking game, you are presented with 5 pokemon with different natures: Naughty, Bold, Sassy, Hasty and Rash. Your objective is to make Poffins that cater to their tastes. If you fail you have to fight that specific Pokemon's gym trainer. His team is: Purugly, Staraptor, Ursaring, Blissey, Lickilicky and Snorlax as his ace. If you win you get the Chef Badge and the TM for Return.
Pearl: Ground type gym. Pearl has almost no repeat types on his team, with the only overlap being Tauhiko and Chahiko, but I already made Dia a normal type gym leader so I went with ground because I also needed someone to take that type. His gym is in Sunyshore because I wanted to place Dia in between him and Platina. In his gym puzzle you are given a pokemon that knows Helping Hand, you have to traverse with the pokemon through a labyrinth. Inside the labyrinth there are pokemon that are able to shatter parts of the walls to make a path or to obtain you a clue, you have to determine what move the pokemon will use next and use Helping Hand to boost it. However if you guess wrong the pokemon will fight you instead. There are also trainers there that will try to stop you. His team is: Hippowdon, Gliscor, Rhyperior, Gastrodon, Garchomp and Dugtrio as his ace. If you get past Garchomp you win the Willpower Badge and the TM for Earthquake.
Black: From his team, the pokemon that always stood out the most to me were Brav and Musha, and I like Braviary more so, Flying type gym leader. His gym is in Mistralton City, because Skyla is a type overlap. In his gym you have to win 3 consecutive battles with only one of your pokemon against trainers who have 3 pokemon so it really forces you to strategize. You have to do this for each one of your pokemon, leading to 18 battles in total. There are flying Braviarys above you that you have to latch onto to get carried to the next trainer. His team is: Archeops, Emolga, Swanna, Mandibuzz, Sigilyph and Braviary as his ace. If you win you get the Aerial Badge and the TM for Aerial Ace.
White: Grass type gym leader because she has 2. Her gym is in Virbank City because of Pokéstar Studios. Her gym puzzle is a musical. Your pokemon have a chance to become actors and they have to reenact a movie where they are the heroes of the story. All trainers are hidden from view for the camera and gym trainer's pokemon act as villains for the movie. Once most of the story is over you get to battle White, with her pokemon pretending to be the big villains of the story. Her team is: Simisage, Lilligant, Ferrothorn, Whimsicott, Sawsbuck and Serperior as her ace. If you win you get the Story Badge and the TM for Magical Leaf.
Lack-two: This is another dexholder with three water types on his team, so he gets the Water Gym. His gym is in Humilau City because of Marlon. His gym puzzle is a murder mystery. You get a file for the fake victim and have to find who killed them. There are clues all around the gym and you have to battle the trainers if you want their testimonies. This all leads around to discovering that the murderer was actually the gym leader all along. Once you figure this out, you can challenge Lack-two. His team is: Simipour, Seismitoad, Jellicent, Carracosta, Kabutops and Samurott as his ace. If you win you get the Clue Badge and the TM for Scald.
Whi-two: Bug type gym leader. Whi-two has 2 pokemon if you don't count the Delphox she got at the end of XY and one of them is a grass type, so we only have one other option for her. Her gym is in Castelia City, taking the place of Burgh. In her gym you have to 'liberate' Pokémon from evil humans. Her gym trainers are pretending to be bad people that you have to defeat to steal their pokemon. Once you defeat them, you take the pokemon to a safe place. You have to be careful because the gym trainers will try to get their pokemon back. Your goal is to help as many pokemon as possible before 15 minutes are up and if you haven't managed to liberate at least 6, you fail. Her team is: Leavanny, Scolipede, Crustle, Galvantula, Volcarona and Accelgor as her ace. If you win you get the Critter Badge and the TM for U-turn.
X: Dragon type gym. Someone needed to take that type and Mega Charizard X is right there so…His gym is in Lumiose City because that's where Professor Sycamore's lab is and he's the one that gives the player the mega evolving Kanto starters. His gym is a long series of mega evolving battles, there are 10 gym trainers in total and all of them have pokemon that can mega evolve. After you beat all 10 you can challenge X. His team is: Tyrantrum, Dragalge, Hydreigon, Goodra, Noivern and Mega Charizard X as his ace. If you win you get the Scales Badge and the TM for Dragon Claw.
Y: Flying type gym. Everyone saw this coming. She's a Sky Trainer so it makes sense. In the games, the first Sky Battle happens on Route 8, if I remember correctly and the nearest city is Cyllage City, so that's where her gym is. Her gym puzzle is gliding down from the top floor of the gym to the bottom, along the way you have to fight gym trainers and defeat them. If you don't have pokemon that can participate in Sky Battles, platforms will appear in places for them to land on but the trainer cannot use them. Her team is: Altaria, Vespiquen, Crobat, Drifblim, Pidgeot and Talonflame as her ace. If you win you get the Sky Badge and the HM for Fly. I know normally gym leaders don't give you HMs, but it would be weird to give her anything else.
Sun: So Alola doesn't have any gyms, but they do have Island Kahunas, which are similar enough for me to make him and Moon a team. He specializes in Dark types, because he has 2 on his team, so he takes Nanu's place as the Kahuna of Ula'ula Island. The Kahuna grand trials are just battles so I'll just move on to his team: Sableye, Honchkrow, Umbreon, Malamar, Alolan Persian and Incineroar as his ace.
Moon: I think we all know what type Moon uses: Poison. She's the Kahuna of Akala Island, because both Slandit and Mareanie can be found there. Her team is: Tentacruel, Dragalge, Arbok, Gengar, Toxapex and Muk as her ace.
Sou: So for Sou, I did something a little different, I looked through the pokedex and searched which type has the most pokemon holding items, since that's his thing. And the answer to that is Psychic, with 7 pokemon if you count Galarian Slowbro's Shellder-gun-arm thing, which I have to, because otherwise I have to give him Hoopa and that is not happening. Does this make you mad? Because it makes me mad, but oh well. I did not spend 40 minutes searching for pokemon with items just to scrap this. I don't know if some of the pokemon in his team even are in the Galar pokedex, but I don't care. It's too late to change it now. His gym is in Stow-on-Side, because it has the Bargain shop and you can get cool items there. His gym puzzles are item based battles, like against a Focus Sash pokemon with Endeavor and Quick Attack or a Toxic Orb, Guts pokemon. You have to battle against 10 gym trainers if you want to battle Sou. His team is: Delphox, Hypno, Galarian Slowbro, Alakazam, Mr. Rime and Oranguru as his ace. If you win you get the Psychic badge, because Galar names their badges after types and the TM for Magic Room.
Schilly: Ice type gym leader. As I'm writing this I realize Platina would have made more sense as the Ice type gym leader but in my defense, I need someone to take the ghost type and Schilly has none but also, it's 5am as I'm writing this and I'm tired so you will just have to deal with it. Her gym is in Circhester because of type overlap and for her puzzle you get placed in a room in the middle of a blizzard and are given a drone that you have to use to find 10 pokemon before 30 minutes are up. As you attempt to do this, gym trainers will try to shoot your drone down so you will have to battle them if you want them to stop. Her team is: Weavile, Frosmoth, Arctozolt, Arctovish, Galarian Darmanitan and Eiscue as her ace. If you win you get the Ice badge and the TM for Ice Beam.
Bonus:
So we all know how close the Sinnoh trio is and it feels wrong to split them up in different gyms so I also did a version where they share a gym.
Sinnoh Trio: So the type that all 3 of them share, that isn't Normal, is Electric, so they share an electric type gym in Sunyshore, because Volkner is a type overlap. I really like the rotation battles that were introduced in gen V, so even though they don't exist in DPPt, I decided to give them a rotation battle gym. You have to win against 10 gym trainers to battle the gym leaders. And yes, even their battle is a rotation battle. Their team is: Magnezone, Jolteon, Raichu, Pachirisu, Rotom Wash and Luxray. If you win you get the Friendship Badge and the TM for Thunder Wave.

Hashiras as Pokémon Gym Leaders!
what better first post than combining two of my greatest loves together? i felt that giving the hashiras 1 type to work with would be too cliché, so i gave them a second one that would work with them as well! maybe i spent too much time putting together their parties...but ultimately it was worth it. i really enjoyed writing for them, and i want to hear how you feel about them being gym leaders in a pokémon game! (i'd never stop replaying that version if it were real...)
Kyojuro Rengoku - fire, obviously; steel, less obviously ❥ so obviously, he would be a fire gym leader, right? probably chose a Charmander as his starter years ago and never strayed from the cute fire-breathing baby since they were the same. the rengoku's probably raise all the fire starters as a family tradition anyways ❥ he's got a lot of other pokémon that he adores, but he always gravitates towards the ones that can benefit from his training and vice versa ❥ his full party: Litleo, Fletchinder, Magmortar, Arcanine, Chandelure, Charizard ❥ kyojuro is 100% a steel type gym in disguise. his personality says it all. his determination, his drive, everything he stands for is as unbendable and unwavering as steel. (let's not get started about his body...) ❥ yeah, yeah, steel is super weak to fire, but in kyojuro's case? they make each other stronger in any other way that they can. they solidify wishes and goals and go for it ❥ his full party: Mawile, Klefki, Metagross, Corviknight, Steelix, Aegislash
Giyu Tomioka - water, obviously; ghost, less obviously ❥ as a water hashira, he'd be a water type gym leader. he chose little Oshawott as his starter and loves him greatly, they're quite literally inseparable. ❥ giyu doesn't pay much attention to his pokémon nor does he go out with the intention of training and capturing more, but this one bidoof has been by his side...even after it evolved into a bibarel... ❥ his full party: Shellder, Seadra, Sharpedo, Wailord, Walrein, Samurott ❥ he's distant and cold sometimes, but he ultimately means well, or at least he tries to convey that. people like him, right? shinobu is just teasing him any chance she gets, right? ❥ did i say sometimes? his ghost pokémon rat his real emotions out to people if he isn't watching, they just want the best for him! ❥ his full party: Corsola, Mimikyu, Gengar, Dragapult, Mismagius, Froslass
Obanai Iguro - poison, obviously; ground, less obviously ❥ kaburamaru picked his starter when he was younger, sobble. though throughout obanai's teen years, he trained closely with a bulbasaur instead. ❥ obanai likes to pretend that he doesn't care what happens to his companions, but the second the battle is over, he's hovering over each pokémon, ensuring that each feels cared for. ❥ his full party: Skrelp, Croagunk, Arbok, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Venusaur ❥ obanai is a hardened soul but is still a softy after you get past kaburamaru and his own tough, rough skin. hold him gently and he'll melt without realising, like eroding ground. ❥ he gets mad when he does find out that his pokemon have been meddling in his life, though, so be careful! he's not easy to win back at alI. ❥ his full party: Drilbur, Krokorok, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Sandaconda, Garchomp
Sanemi Shinazugawa - flying, obviously; fighting, less obviously ❥ sanemi is pretty reserved when it comes to his pokémon, but there's no denying that he has a soft spot for the bird species. he trained with a grass/flying type starter but later realised it was no longer flying. ❥ his pokémon may be free-spirited from time to time, but whenever he calls for them, they're by his side within seconds. his pokémon automatically give him tailwind whether he needs it or not. ❥ his full party: Rookidee, Drifloon, Gliscor, Archeops, Toucannon, Decidueye ❥ he isn't so much as a "go with the flow" guy as much as he just appreciates the ebb and flow of the air currents and he expects the same of his winged companions. ❥ he enjoys the rush of the wind, whether it's on the back of his pokémon or he's running right alongside them, though he loves the confrontation on the ground and will never pass a one-on-one fight ❥ his full party: Hawlucha, Kommo-o, Bewear, Scrafty, Machamp, Decidueye
Tengen Uzui - psychic, obviously; dark, less obviously ❥ his exceptional hearing doesn't discriminate when it comes to pokemon that he's raising. the louder, the better, he says...to everyone, though his wives would disagree... ❥ in another life he could've been a conductor but he wouldn't trade his life for another anyways. between him and his wives, he's got enough to deal with ❥ his full party: Bruxish, Gothita, Malamar, Rapidash, Alakazam, Delphox ❥ alongside his wives and him was a lone froakie, which later became his own cherished pokémon, as well as his wives' ❥ tengen may be very good at distinguishing sounds, but he lets his pokémon make as much white noise as want, even if he needs to concentrate on a mission ❥ his full party: Absol, Deino, Grimmsnarl, Honchkrow, Malamar, Greninja
Mitsuri Kanroji - fairy, obviously; dragon, less obviously ❥ she starts every battle by sending out her pokémon with a kiss. it's fitting that every pokemon she has is in a love ball since she's the love hashira. ❥ her pokemon are as graceful and tough as she is, both in appearance and battle. she's always making treats for every one of them, and especially herself! ❥ her full party: Togetic, Kirlia, Hatterene, Grimmsnarl, Alcremie, Altaria ❥ she’s one of two women who’ve become hashira, so she must be strong, right? in another life she could’ve been a ballerina of sorts, or any other profession that let her express her strength equally to her beauty. in this one, it means she harbors dragon types under her wing. ❥ don’t underestimate mitsuri and her cute stature or you’ll be sorry. she may be looking to marry, but you’ve got to show you love her dragons as much as she does… ❥ her full party: Dreepy, Dragonair, Goodra, Salamence, Garchomp, Altaria
Shinobu Kocho - bug, obviously; ice, less obviously ❥ her butterfly attire gives her typing away just like the original gym leaders. it’s only fitting that the butterfly mansion is home to bug types as well as the injured. ❥ she’d never admit that her favorite is her butterfree, but there’s a reason her haori matches the wing patterns near perfectly. confront her about it and you’ll likely be poisoned one way or another ❥ her full party: Skorupi, Whirlipede, Accelgor, Butterfree, Yanmega, Frosmoth ❥ have you seen the look in her eyes? or heard the way she talks to Giyu? she can be cold when she needs to (or wants to) so it only makes sense that the chilly Pokémon have flocked around her ❥ if you let her warm up to you she might show you some tricks her ice types have picked up, like how to beat rengoku’s fire types or how to make nifty potions for battle ❥ her full party: Sneasel, Lapras, Ninetales, Dewgong, Avalugg, Frosmoth
Gyomei Himejima - rock, obviously; grass, less obviously ❥ as the stone hashira, he has strong connection with rock types that are resilient as he is. they love joining him during training sessions and will often practice when he is ❥ his party's defense is so high, you'll likely have to whittle them down little by little. you'll be lucky to take a chip out of them before they trap you in a tomb ❥ his full party: Rockruff, Lairon, Bastiodon, Tyrantrum, Omastar, Cradily ❥ the rock types he works with are tough and hardened, but the grass types he works with a flowy and flexible. they may look super tough on the outside, but they're soft on the inside ❥ his grass types love practicing with him, especially when he's water training. show up with a water type of any kind and they'll show you who's boss ❥ his full party: Gossifleur, Skiddo, Ferrothorn, Shiftry, Torterra, Cradily
Muichiro Tokito - normal, obviously; electric, less obviously ❥ his aloofness definitely takes a part in what Pokémon stay by him throughout his journey. normal types are unaffected by his amnesiac tendencies and care for him all the same. ❥ he might forget who is in his lineup, but he’ll always put on a worthy battle even if it takes him until halfway through to realize he might lose. don’t let him remember there’s a badge on the line and he might spare your party of Pokémon… ❥ his full party: Spinda, Minccino, Wigglytuff, Snorlax, Slaking, Heliolisk ❥ the blankness in his eyes can be fierce like a storm. if you get on his nerves, he might just lash out with everything he's got. you won't want to get caught in the spark. ❥ while his party is sparky and electrifying, he can still be pretty absent-minded and forget to pay attention to them. they remind him with a little spark and sometimes you'll even see him play with them. ❥ his full party: Pincurchin, Magnemite, Toxtricity, Ampharos, Electrode, Heliolisk

Chapter 23 - Blizzard Island Rescue
And by the randomizer list, I dub thee... Chapter Name.
...Thank you, RNG 🙄
Tumblr media
I guess I'm making title cards for the post-game chapters now! Well, this shot came out too nice for me not to use.
(Also this post was supposed to come out several days ago but my job had other plans for me... Sorry.)
Some days after the ascension of Sky Peak Cloudy Well...
Tumblr media
Hey, Starmie? Any reason why you're standing <2 inches in front of Aerodactyl? Let him breathe!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seaking for Scizor, huh? Yeah, I can see that! Both names start with an S, anyway.
Tumblr media
The... the what.
*Imagines a 4-way intersection made of rubber bands*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wait... *processing*
Just to be a joy kill, I'm having the same thought I did at Sky Peak... Why couldn't Ice Types handle this rescue? Or were there none around? Or did they just go "F*ck this guy in particular"?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Incredible team? Saving the world? You could almost call us... a gift from Heaven!
...I'll see myself out.
Tumblr media
👀 Would I? Would I?? You betcha! If nothing else, I want to know what the hell an Elastic Crossroad is.
Tumblr media
...Just kidding, I don't want to know anymore. (Gee, this looks awfully familiar.)
Thankfully, unlike Nonsensical Castle, there's not too much for me to say here. To help me construct these posts, I take notes whenever something of significance happens. And my only notes for Elastic Crossing are as follows (verbatim):
Linoone spamming Dark Void in a single room floor and having Bad Dreams 🥲
Lots of one-room floors actually... 2, 8, 9.
Good job team, we made it through relatively painlessly!
So yeah, I'll just share the few shots I have and we can move on 😃
Tumblr media
I believe this is the Icicle Forest aesthetic? Cold and foreboding indeed.
Tumblr media
🥺️ Oh, honey. You're not in the world you think you are (thank god).
Tumblr media
🎩 HE WAS NUMBER ONE!! ☝️
Tumblr media
Ngl, a room full of poisonous frogs and snakes, violent piranhas, and god-tier apes would be mortifying irl. But here, we get through without too much trouble and eventually emerge to find...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh... Yaaaaaay...
Tumblr media
Dirty Province 💀 This is two steps away from being... you know what, never mind.
Tumblr media
Crevice Cave is a gentrified village?? Or perhaps referring to a certain Danish prince.
Tumblr media
Uh. No comment on this one. ._.
Tumblr media
Okay, Teresa officially has the BEST IQ group ever. Coin Watcher, Wise and Quick Healer, Self Curer, Brick Tough, Deep Breather, All-Terrain Hiker... Well, I guess that one is irrelevant with her Flying type. And now Trap Buster?? Talk about a GAME-changer!
In the lowest depths of the "Ghetto"...
Tumblr media
I'm gonna posit their shock is due to seeing a Scizor instead of a Seaking...?
But suddenly! A wild Snow Storm appeared!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ooooo, okay, who's our Froslass?
Tumblr media
O-O YEAH OKAY THAT WOULD BE TERRIFYING! GOOD CALL, RANDOMIZER!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ironically(?), this happened immediately afterward:
Tumblr media
This was before anyone made a move, so I guess Steelix has Drizzle?
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THAT DAMAGE!! SUPER EFFECTIVE CRITICAL HIT BABEY!!!
As this image suggests... Steelix went down after only two turns of Mud Slap and Octazooka. Not so scary now, huh?
Tumblr media
Tee-hee... See you never ❤️️
May as well click here to advance to Part 2 and give Seaking time to thaw.

Hey, did you hear the director fell into a steelix sized pit recently?
Yes, I have. He is quite ashamed of the situation. Personally, I think this incident qualifies quite well for "Director Clavell Top Ten Cringefail Moments [NOT CLICKBAIT]". Which is certainly... a video. Several people have suggested.
He asked me to tell you cool Caterpie not to worry about his health, though. A broken ankle is nothing a cast cannot fix!
...In completely unrelated news, I have gotten into another dancing accident! Yes. A very bad one. Also quite qualifiable for "Top Ten Clive Fails". That has also happened to injure my left ankle.
I know, the coincidence is uncanny. Perhaps the Director and I are linked in spirit! But I, too, will be wearing a cast. Consider it "solidarity".

umm rhys pkmn team ideas 🩶
Tumblr media
i had this all sorted out AWHILE back with my friends but figured hey why not archive this thought here ehehehe also im really enjoying my new "style" in infodumping so i like to see more of it
this team doesn't have to be THE canon if it conflicts with the story that the devs plan, but if i had to expand his character a lil bit, this is how it goes!
so rhys is not exactly the kind of champion to focus on one type (i.e: wallace and water types/steven with steel types) but he would be like blue and red who has a variety! except that rhys focuses on two types - ice and steel type.
why ice and steel - well, for one i think those types are super underrated (and i would be lying if i said its not boring to reuse the fire water grass cycle lol) and i kinda the design philosophy in gym leaders how their types reflect their personality in a way. ice types are cool, calm and collected. "chill" if you will. steel types are determined, bold and dare i say potentially misleading (jasmine)
i see rhys as a man who is very calm, humble and sweet (ice) but when time strikes where he must act serious (and its not just battling, say - whatever happened to carmine), he's a stern, almost emotionless man who will do whatever he can do get what's needed.
so these two types bounce off him really well! also, its fun to break the stereotypical "if x is a fighting type then it means they gotta be a martial artist" - no rhys is not a fuckin KNIGHT as a steel type user nor is he wearing A SCARF OR SKI MASK as an ice type user lmao
ok heres the actual team tho
Tumblr media
his ace is steelix (courtesy of nero suggesting that and sandslash) i wouldve added lucario but nah that guy is so overrated (and he would absolutely lean on the "he's riley's son" narrative AHDHSDJSJ) so i went with bisharp instead. i also did not want to pick metagross (even if its such a good pick) because..... f/o association AJSHDHSJA
funnily enough some of the 'mons pokedexes had a lot to do with leading a team or showing superiority which is like... haaa... champ privilege SHDGDVSJSHHA
froslass is there because her pokedex says this:
"It freezes hikers who have come to climb snowy mountains and carries them back to its home. It only goes after men it thinks are handsome."
anyways our running gag is that rhys is a handsome motherfucker and everyone is literally a fan of him and this froslass said 👍 /lh

Obligatory Introduction Post
Yo, what's up? Saw my friends doing this, and I decided I might as well make one.
I'm Onyx. I'm a rock/steel type gym leader located in the Galar region. You may recognize me from the Galar gym challenge a couple of years back. But I'm just here to post about my life and what it's like being a gym leader.
More about me under the cut if you're curious. If you wanna skip all that, just scroll to the very bottom to see the rules.
I was born and raised in Unova, but my family and I moved to Galar when was 13, which is also the time I started my journey. Rivals and friends were @quillpokebiology and @pokedesignercalli, as well as my other best friend who is a bit secretive and doesn't plan on getting a Rotomblr. When I'm not doing my gym duties, I work in coding and help tutor young kids on math.
Team
As a gym leader, I have to have a lot of Pokemon to fit the skill level of the different trainers that come by. But still, here they are!
Journey Team
Atlas: Metagross
He was my starter, which I got as a Beldum. Found them wandering the city at night and decided to take them in since they didn't have a trainer. I know Metagross doesn't have a gender, but they don't really care what you refer to them as.
Obsidian: (Shiny) Gigalith
Caught him as a rogenrolla because he snuck into my camp, and it was the first wild shiny pokemon I saw.
Marble/Aggron
I found her while exploring a cave, and she was just a small Aron chewing on some random metals she found.
Jasper/Scizor
Found him in the wild and is the first pokemon I caught that was fully evolved. I'm not fully sure what happened to him, but my theory is that he was abandoned by his old trainer, since he doesn't like it when I'm gone for too long and gets really clingy when I come back.
Fenrir/(Midnight) Lycanroc
I found him as a rockruff in the Isle of Armor. He was really rowdy and aggressive, which really appealed to younger me back then. I didn't really know what to name him, so Quill did. They say it's from a myth, but I don't really understand it. Fenrir is also the pfp.
Gym Teams
First Challengers: Galarian Meowth (Male), Rolycoly (Male)
Early challengers: Galarian meowth (male), Onix (male), Togedemaru (male)
Mid Challengers: Persurker (Male), Boldore (female), Togedemaru (female), Stunfisk (male)
Last Challengers: Excadrill (Male), Steelix (male), Shuckle (Female), Crustle (female), Coperajah (female)
And then the final teams are just my journey team, which I rarely use unless I'm up against another gym leader, someone of the same skill, or if someone straight up asks me to.
Other
Rocko/Roggenrola
That time Obsidian had a son with a ditto without me freaking knowing. But yeah, Rock is Obsidian's kid. He's a bit of a troublemaker, but I still love him. He's also the youngest member of my team.
Rules
-While Onyx is 18, the person running this blog isn't and is still a minor. Please do not submit any NSFW, and I will br keeping this blog PG so everyone can view it. You xan send flirty stuff in inbox if you want, since i can imagine the interactions will be pretty funny, but nothing too far
-Not really a rule, but the background for the art came from blitzorodeo on Instagram
-If your account has the default tumblr pfp, is untitled, has no description, has a pornographic name, or pornagraphic imagery, I'll assume that you are a bot and you will be blocked
-This takes place in an alternate universe where most of the existing characters don't exist. But I will talk about some as if they do exist if asked about them; I'll just tag it as not canon

teko's uhhhhhh guide to hammer-swinging idiots i think
so i saw a certain @ConcernedRowlet's guide to pokemon care on chatter and i was immediately like "hey this is super good and all but you know what it needs? more memes and affectionate badmouthing of the pokemon in question" so allow me to enlighten you about how to care for these little hammer shitling goblins through the lens of my personal experiences and a shitload of sleep deprivation in the form of a rotumblr post
[ahem] "fuckin' tinkatink line! how do they work?"
[Image ID: A half-conscious Tinkaton sprawled out on its hammer, covered in grime and food debris. Its tongue is hanging out of its mouth slightly.] yes they truly are the pinnacle of grace, aren't they
these guys are all-female fairy/steel types and they're uhhhh so like you know those inventors in a lot of TV shows the ones who somehow come up with just the thing to save the day and can casually flaunt the rules of science because it's cool for the audience to watch like uhhh professor farnsworth or something ...yeah imagine that, but they're perpetually disheveled and constantly acting like they just did a line of cocaine and pounded back a six-pack of monster immediately after
let's start with tinkatink tiny babey the little rattle thing they hoist around that's supposed to be a hammer due to them not being very strong in this form it's less a "hammer" and more like "heavy-ass monster hunter greatsword" to them their technique with it is less "hit the enemy" and more of a "use the sheer weight and heft of the thing to swing yourself around in the hopes you manage to concuss something" sort of thing it's important to get them accustomed to using it quickly so they're less likely to hurt themselves trying to flail around, especially in battles
they're fiercely protective of their little scrap clump, and for good reason you know how i said they're not very strong well ferrovores (metal eaters like aggron or steelix) often eat their hammer  it's like a little iron-flavored sucker this is bad news for the tinkatink, because having the physical strength of a wet spaghetti noodle doesn't do much for self defense
this is not a wild pokemon exclusive thing, either if you have any ferrovorous pokemon in your squad be sure to establish early on that this thing is friend, not food it's important for the tinkatink too they're perfectionists when it comes to the hammer and will take it pretty hard if it gets eaten what you should do if this happens is assure them it's not their fault, and give them little pieces of scrap metal to help them along
now onto tinkatuff! bigger! stronger! dumber? these guys are sort of like the vigoroth of the line well uh if vigoroth didn't evolve into a fat lazy fuck, at any rate in this form, your buddy gets more of the hyperactive temperament the line is known for
they're also very stupid there i said it i'm sorry but they are dumb as all distortion like, they're not dumb in the sense that there's nothing going on up there like a slowbro or volcarona but they're morons in the same way as a frat boy with ADHD on top of having a ridiculous amount of ideas rattling around in their skulls (most of them poorly thought-out) they think they know everything when they really, really don't and since they have the impulse control of a two year old things can go...badly
[Video ID: A Tinkatuff, gleefully carrying a large fragment of a Copperajah tusk and cackling, while getting chased across the screen by a herd of Cufant. Leading them is a very angry-looking Copperajah with most of its left tusk missing. The trainer holding the Rotom Phone can be heard facepalming, then proceeding to mutter "I told you this was a bad idea, you pink idiot..." He then sends out a Ceruledge and starts running forward in an attempt to protect the Tinkatuff.]
in this form it's imperative for you to put a lot of effort into cleaning them this is because they get...filthy like really filthy here's a fun little experiment: attach a poke doll or other such plush toy to a pokemon's leash and let it drag through the dirt as it runs then briefly dunk it in whatever you're cooking for dinner  congratulations you're now in the ballpark of how dirty they get
in the wild they basically live in huge burrows of scrap metal and food waste they make in their forges they have little to no standards for cleanliness because of this told you they were like frat boys they eventually begrudgingly pick the bare minimum off of their trashpile-mates when their fur becomes super duper matted and stuff it's up to you to keep them from getting to this point by gently scrubbing, cleaning and thoroughly combing their fur on the regular fortunately they don't like, hate baths and stuff: they just really can't be assed to clean themselves in the slightest
ooh right right right the hammer almost forgot about that not long after evolving these guys will seek out any metal they can get their mitts on to beef up their hammer ...the "beefing up" usually consists of just taping on a few pieces of bent metal and lengthening the pole, but still, A for effort
but when i say any metal i mean any metal they can and will get it off of a large appliance, your plumbing, even a steel-type corpse if you leave them to their own devices they can literally smell metal so don't think your plumbing is safe either so as soon as they evolve it's best to get them more materials fortunately many stores in paldea (and a few other places) sell different types of sheet metal for the express purpose of sating their appetite and if not just going to your local hardware place is usually enough to tide them over or if you're really cheap you could just rummage for stuff in local scrapyards take her with you when you do this your partner has a good eye for what they're after, she'll know which kind of metal is right for her the hammer gets juiced up more and more as they get stronger so you're gonna have to provide them with more metal when it finally reaches a certain size and grandiose-ness you can often expect them to evolve not long after
on top of that, being the ADHD-ass little nutjobs that they are, they test their hammer by smashing it against whatever catches their eye they get much physically stronger here, so their swings have a bit of heft to them now unless you want a lot of ventilation in your home take measures to control this immediately fill a punching bag with rocks, let them go nuts with it, and put it back up again whenever they start beefing up their hammer some more this teaches them not to hit random stuff
and finally tinkaton! tinkaton are crafty very crafty they're still not smart by any means but they are crafty so crafty, in fact, that they often use other pokemon as tools
[Video ID: A Tinkaton, holding a Charcadet upside down above a hunk of metal that it's working on. The Charcadet's fire plume is shining brightly as the Tinkaton uses it to weld a handle to its creation like a blowtorch.]
there are close to no limits on what they can find uses for, so if one of your team members finds themselves getting used as a power drill or smth, don't be surprised: this even applies to their battle strategies
they get a lot stronger in this phase and i mean a lot you think some of the stuff fighting types like machamp and conkeldurr can handle are impressive try hurling around a 200lb+ blunt object like it's a long twig and still being able to lift more if they wanted to they could probably swing you around as a hammer too! ....not sure how well that would go, since you'd probably splatter as soon as they hit you against something, but they still could!
their hammer is very large and elaborate now it's almost a miracle that it's still built around the same rattle thing it had as a tinkatink! they don't need beds or blankets or anything because, get this, they just plant the hammer into the ground and pass out i always wonder how their back isn't torn to fucking pieces when they wake up from sleeping on a giant lump of metal if they trust you enough, they'll eventually start lightly bopping you on the head with it as a sign of affection!
in the wild, they live in large clans with other members of their line called "forges" these forges are equal part giant trash and scrap burrows and huge testing grounds for whatever crazy thing they decide to band together and build they also make prosthetics for wounded pokemon out of steel-type carcasses in exchange for scrap metal and berries!
forges typically give roving trainers a wide berth because they know pissing off humans is a bad idea very rarely a stray tinkatuff will ignore this because, again, they're foolhardy dumbasses if they go after you just hit it with a few status moves and it'll typically turn tail and get a stern talking to from the forge's elders or you could just use whirlwind or smth the different forges in paldea are proficient at utilizing different pokemon, and even form sort of partnerships with them for example the asado desert forge teams up with varoom and revavroom to use them as steeds [Image ID: A Tinkaton with a red scrap cloth headband riding a Revavroom, leading a pack of Tinkatuff and Tinkatink riding several Varoom.]
as you'd guess from this they're very social creatures it's important to let them bond with the rest of your team better in this form, as they serve as surrogates for their pack if you want you can also visit your local forge to let your tinkaton screw around with the forge members a bit for funsies
a common misconception is that tinkaton hunt down corviknight by tossing rocks (or sometimes other pokemon, such as falinks troopers) at them in the air with their hammer hence why squawkabilly is used as the flying taxi coach in paldea this is actually a lie and they get hard walled by corviknight (and then they get salty over not being able to do anything useful in the battle) they do it because to them it's funny as shit it's like their equivalent to miltank tipping they don't really do it to other people's corviknight because it's not as funny: they don't get as surprised because they're far closer to the ground
they're also super driven to build stuff what is "stuff?" nobody knows! not even them! sometimes they just get a flash of inspiration and start scribbling out plans for some sort of grandiose scrap metal behemoth and you just have to roll with it if you have a bit of engineering/mechanical know-how, you can feel free to join in the fun!
....unfortunately that's where the burglary sprees start
now i know what you're thinking you little smarty-nipple
"wehhhh but maybe yours is just a bad temperament or you're not raising it right or-"
N O .
i have worked with several of these rattata bastards and i can say with complete certainty that they're all a bunch of kleptomaniacal shitheads seriously if you took one of those Rabbid things from Rayman and gave them a hammer well uh you wouldn't exactly have a tinkaton but you'd be pretty arcdamn close
if they need metal and you don't give it to them they will steal things computer parts refrigerator doors stove hatches engine blocks it does not matter what it is or what it's made of if it ain't nailed down and it's made of metal they're taking that shit this is why it's really, really important to teach them to ask for your aid if they're in the mood to build something
they also need to hunt wild steel-types not often, mind you, kinda like pyroar prides but it's still sometimes tinkaton are hardwired to kill for their materials giving them sheet metal and stuff helps with the urge to build but not the urge to "disassemble" steel types you'll need to get the proper licenses to hunt pokemon and only go after any steel-types that are in season to do this what they're after is metal pokemon with only small bits of metal on their body, or those which have the metal-y bits on the inside, like lucario or togedemaru, are typically off the menu they also need you to help, and possibly your other pokemon remember what i said about them being pack hunters to them, you're the pack's leader, so they look to your guidance for hunting
unfortunately this, along with the stealing part, is why a lot of trainers end up abandoning/releasing them in this phase some people can't bring themselves to be complicit in outright hunting down pokemon, only capturing them, which is understandable being denied part of the enrichment it needs, the tinkaton begins lashing out in other areas to try and vent some of the stress it's built up with no other suitable outlets this can lead to your opponents or even other people getting seriously hurt if you're looking to raise one of these guys, please, look for a suitable alternative unless you're willing to really, really commit that said, give 'em what they need and rein them in here and there and you'll have a loyal (if slightly violent) partner who can come up with some truly amazing things like this [Image ID: A Tinkaton decked out in an imposing suit of armor made from assorted scrap metal and Steel-type hide, posing triumphantly atop its hammer, which is planted into the ground. The armor has a Corviknight's head plating as a helmet, and a segment of a Forretress' shell hanging from the back like a cape.]
finally, a few anecdotes from my own specimen of these dum-dum yokel gremlins
cotton likes eating her food on her hammer as well as sleeping on it, yet she doesn't like it getting cleaned ...she doesn't seem to make the correlation between a dirty hammer and more baths ...nor does she seem to care
she likes listening to "Sweet Release of DEATH - Sugary Spire" before battles because it gets her even more hyper than usual this helps because i like to use her as a support lead/damage dealer hybrid, because, as befitting their crafty nature, they learn a lot of support-oriented moves
anyway yeah that's all i got later nerds

I’m not sure when Mega Blastoise is coming. Realistically, probably not anytime too soon.
I wasn’t lying when I said I was working on Mega Blastoise back then – I was. But I haven’t touched it in a long time; I have less free time to work on art for this blog, so when I do have time, Mega Blastoise just isn’t my priority right now. (I’m currently focusing on finishing up commissions and getting into Gen 9; Fuecoco’s line is close to being finished).
As for why I stopped working on it in the first place, Blastoise and Mega Blastoise are facing different directions, which makes the in-between for them more of a pain. After starting it, I really wasn’t satisfied with the direction it was going in and ultimately decided I’ll be making forward-facing artwork for Blastoise (like I did for Mega Sceptile) so that the in-between has more flow and the transition is more obvious. But doing that takes time away from something else I could be working on...
That said, I haven’t done all the other Mega’s yet. I still have Mega Steelix, Mega Metagross, Mega Latias/Latios, Mega Rayquazza, and Mega Diancie to do as well (and I’ve started most of them, too).
For Gen 1 to be “complete” to me, and ready to upload to Instagram and deviantArt (etc), there’s some more Pokemon lines I’d like to redo, including:
Kanto and Alolan Rattata
(Potentially) Spearrow
Jigglypuff
Zubat Line
Kanto and Aolan Diglett
Kanto Geodude line (I also still need to finish Alolan Geodude line)
Seel
Slowbro/Slowking (I also still need to finish Galarian Slowking)
Magnemite
Drowzee
Jinx
Kabutops
The majority would just be updating the art as opposed to redesigning them.
I haven’t forgotten about Mega Blastoise and the other Megas or remaining Gen 1 lines that I want to redo, I just have limited time and energy and am just one person! I will be keeping Mega Blastoise in mind and will try to get to it before too long, but please understand that I’m not just sitting around twiddling my thumbs ignoring Mega Blastoise for the sake of it.

TSSM Pokemon Au Part 3
I watched some Pokemon videos and decided to give TSSM characters Pokemon for fun! This is also going off of @hermesserpent-stuff ‘s Spider Nephew Au. Also, there might be some people with the same Pokemon for different reasons; either they fit two people, or it’s to match with someone. I also base some of these Pokemon in different ways, from types, aesthetics, Pokedex Entries, jobs, powers, and backstories. I also won’t mind explaining my reasoning because I did a lot of research for them. Also, I tried o make sure they had diverse types, but some people might have more than 1 of the same type. Another thing is that I like to imagine that Peter and the other villains have 3 Pokemon for their civilian image and then the other 3 for their hero/villain work.
The last thing is that I have only played up to Generation 8, and I have yet to play the other games. So my bad, if there is another Pokemon that suits them better.(let me know plz)
I will highlight their starter and their strongest. Red is their strongest, and blue is their starter. Purple is both. Any that has a * are their secret team.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 4
Otto Octavius/Doc Ock
Reuniclus (Psychic)
Grapploct (Fighting)
Metagross (Steel/Psychic)
Octillery (Water)
Tentacruel (Water/Poison)
Tangrowth (Grass)
His first Pokemon was a Remoraid he befriended in the water. Then a Solosis to help him with his science project until Remoraid turned into an Octillery he had more hands. As he got older and worked on with more heavy machines, he caught a Beldum and quickly evolved it to Metagross. Since he still wanted to be hands-on with his project with some distance without using his Pokemon, he created his tentacles after Octillery. After becoming Doc Ock, he caught more Pokemon with longer limbs like him.
Adrien Toomes/Vulture
Scizor (Bug/Steel)
Skarmory (Steel/Flying)
Flygon (Ground/Dragon)
Mandibuzz (Dark/Flying)
Archeops (Rock/Flying)
Staraptor (Normal/Flying)
Adrien did catch Pokemon when he got older since he wasn’t sure what he wanted. After catching Skarmory, he got into robotics and got inspiration from Skarmory. Since he wanted to make a suit that a person could fly with, he caught multiple Pokemon, not just Flying-type Pokemon. He caught types that can fly too to study them.
Max Dillion/Electo
Rotom (Electric/?)
Toxtricity (Electric/Poison)
Primeape (Fighting)
Magnezone (Electric/Steel)
Grapploct (Fighting)
 Stunfisk (Ground/Electric)
Max started out with a Rotom he found in an abandoned mansion. He then got a Mankey when he found Rotom messing with it. Even though Max was very chill, he got along well with Mankey. Then he got a Magnemite after dropping out of school and started working. After he became Electro, he was actually found by Toxtricity when he was fighting Spiderman and wanted to help. After breaking free, he got Grapploct from Otto. Then he found Stunfisk alone, needing a full team to fight Spiderman.
Flint Marko/Sandman
Excadrill (Ground/Steel)
Palossand (Ghost/Ground)
Steelix (Steel/Ground)
Machoke (Fighting)
Heracross (Bug/Fighting)
Thievul (Dark)
Flint started with a Machop when he was younger as he watched some Machamps work in construction. He likes the idea of big and strong Pokemon since he believes he wasn’t smart enough for certain jobs; he can at least do heavy labor. He then gets a Heracross he finds in the woods. As he grew up and had a job, he felt like he wasn’t getting enough and that it wasn’t fair that he can barely make a living as he rooms with Alex O’Hirn. When they turn to crime as the answer, they decide to get another Pokemon to help them, which is why he caughtThievul it it can steal and an Excadrill to break into buildings. When he was taken by Hammerhead to Osborn’s secret lab and told that they were trying to do an experiment, he agreed. As he was being hooked up, he noticed a Palossand. He didn’t know that they were trying to put Pokemon DNA on people. When he was turned into Sandman, he took Palossand with him. As he tested his new powers, he accidentally bumped into Steelix as they were both in the ground and caught it.
Alex O’Hirn/Rhino
Aggron (Steel/Rock)
Poliwrath (Water/Fighting)
Sableye (Dark/Ghost)
Rhyperior (Ground/Rock)
Machoke (Fighting)
Bewear (Normal/Fighting)
When Alex was younger, he didn’t really care what Pokemon he caught first since he just wanted a friend. He caught Stuffle as soon as he saw it. Then he befriended a Poliwag later when he went to a pond. As he got older, he caught a Machoke for a job. He ended up meeting Flint, and both became friends. Even as they moved in with each other, they still had money problems and agreed with Flint on stealing. For this, he caught a Sableye. When it was his turn to be experimented on, they tried to recreate Pokemon’s skin as armor to put on people. O’ Hirn saw a Rhyperior in a glass case when he was there. When he becomes Rhino and releases Rhyperior. While joining the Sinister Six, he caught an Aggron.
Toomes’ Staraptor looks after Harry’s Taillow since his owner does the same with Harry.
Octillery is Otto’s friendliest Pokemon since it remembers what Otto was like before all of this happened. It hopes he turns back to the softer person he was and won’t look down on others.
Bewear can now hug Rhino without worrying that she might crush his owner.
No one can tell the Machokes apart except for O’Hirn and Flint.
Primate is ready to throw hands for Electro anytime he gets mad.
Otto has his Grapploct wear a collar to tell his apart from Electro’s
Flint likes making sandcastles with Palossand for fun.
Peter might be seen riding Steelix or any other large Pokemon and it makes Otto worry a lot.

Ok so I'm working on an au where one of the hermits (haven't decided which one yet) accidentally angers a spirit or something and end result is all the other hermits getting turned into pokemon and thrown into the pokemon world, and they have to find all of them in order for everyone to get turned back to normal and go home.
I only have half of them nailed down, what do y'all think?
Bdubs - burmy or wormadam (little bush with big ol' eyes)
Cub - helioptile, or maybe klang or murkrow? (Mostly based on vibes, though I am So Very Tempted to say teddiursa purely for the pun)
Doc - gogoat (he is the GOAT)
Etho - greninja (ninja man needs ninja mon, though wishiwashi just for the meme would be HILARIOUS)
False - braviary or pidgeot, or maybe morpeko (she be birb, but also symmetry)
Gem - sawsbuck (ye I know she's a pirate now but she will always be a deer in my heart)
Grian - fletchling (look I know just how much lore this man has and how much everyone loves watcher eldritch madness and stuff, but like. The sheer comedy potential of him being just a Random Tiny Bird is too good)
Hypno - hypno (need I say more?)
Impulse - noivern? steelix? Maybe impidimp for the pun? (Yeahhhhhh idk)
Iskall - electrike (lbr, mostly chosen on the basis of electric type + green, like it'll work but idk)
Jevin - grimer/alolan grimer or ditto (goopy slimy liquid dude)
Joe - whimsicott, dreepy, or mime jr (based purely on 'he's just a little guy' vibes)
Keralis - omanyte, maybe kabuto (big eyes and inexplicable eldritch vibes)
Mumbo - blipbug (dapper, smart little dude, but also silly wet cat energy)
Pearl - venomoth or masquerain, maybe lunatone (she be moth, she be pretty, she be moon)
Ren - lycanroc midday form (big ol' fluffy dog)
Scar - espurr, jigglypuff, decidueye, salandit, maybe sableye (silly dude but also HoT GuY but also capitalist conman, the vibes are all over the place)
Skizz - chesnaught or rillaboom, maybe machoke (big guy always ready for a hug dad vibes)
Joel - mudsdale (part bc mud = swamp = shrek, part bc turning the guy who kills horses into a horse is hilarious)
Stress - skitty, bellossum or steenee, maybe ribombee (SILLY PINK CAT but also happy flower lady and fairy vibes)
Tango - quilava or charmander, maybe flareon (blazey burny fire man, though I did consider litwick bc blue fire)
Beef - tauros (beef become beef)
Wells - armarouge (armor man needs armor mon)
XB - gyarados (he be fish)
Xisuma - golurk, golisopod, armaldo, maybe mimikyu (big ol' armor dudes, but also playing dress up all the time)
Zedaph - wooloo (silly rolly sheepy man)
Cleo - mandibuzz (rotting flesh girlboss)
