The other day, I was searching on twitter for fan art of Robo fighting Adam Smasher, and of course ran into neo nazis, talking how Cyberpunk is lame fantasy for degen antifas, while Deus Ex was based QAnon fantasy for the red pilled.
Reminds me this 4chan comment about 2077 I saw reposted some time ago, where a dude was like "Hurr durr, corporations bad, even though the world is sure technologicalyl advanced, hurr durr"-ignoring the specific idiocy of that, what exactly did they expect?
I know everything billed under cyberpunk isn't inherently leftwing, and leftism doesn't have monopoly on hating rich people, but if you think Corporations Bad is some crazy commie shit, maybe Corporations Bad in the Future genre isn't for you?
Don't look at Twitter for intellectual POV's because not a single one is to be found there.
My faith in the masses on a consistent weekly basis is demolished, and I am not sure I have much more to give for them.
I have said it a million times, and I will say it til I'm blue in the face. Twitter is just the village square that lets every Village idiot have the podium. These people just eat up whatever stupid ass bullshit if it has enough likes attached to it, because they lack critical thinking for themselves.
If you had asked me a couple weeks ago, I probably would have said the same as the above, except, I was naive enough to believe that the collective could and would be able to look at the evidence and come to the right conclusion. However, this week my thoughts have changed. (I'm specifically looking at YOU Jirard Khalil).
Hating the rich/megacorps has and never will be exclusive to the left. It's for the oppressed. Those who have felt the boot on their necks from those who are in charge or have enough money to sway those in charge, and that number keeps growing especially in the states where our food is becoming scop quality and the dollar isn't going as far as it used to.
Personally, I think both the Libs and the Right wingers are idiots. Neither want to admit that they are both the same coin. Both sides have valid concerns and struggles that need to be addressed, but instead, they (the government and the megacorps that pay them) want to turn us all against each other, because as long as we stand divided, we can't turn our anger to the right people. BUT THEY AINT READY FOR THAT CONVERSATION YET.
Truth is, both games (and the genre) address very real warnings that are being taken with a grain of salt and just flat out ignored because it's not amplified to that degree, so it can't possibly be the case in our world right? 🙄

Escaped clone au
You know all those fics where Danny and Damian are twins but everyone first assumes Danny must be a clone? How about an au where Danny is Damian's clone who escaped the League after he was assumed dead. Damian could even have been the one to have "killed" him, back when Danny was a newly created, fully brainwashed clone minion and trying to kill Damian himself.
Danny gets adopted by the Fentons and canon goes on as normal, until Dan. Witnessing what would happen to the world should he turn evil really drove home to Danny how dangerous he is.
Even if he was confident he could be trusted with his absurd amount of power (which he isn't), what if the League of Assassins found out about him? Does he still have programming triggers from his evil assassin clone conditioning?
So, Danny does the responsible thing: he goes to Batman to turn himself in.
Cue Danny showing up on Bruce's doorstep with ghost hunting equipment, intel on the afterlife, and an almost unbelievable backstory. Somehow he still managed to be more well-adjusted than Damian.

Here's how I'm thinking Danny leaving the League went down:
After surviving his wounds but failing his mission, Danny (then an unnamed potential Damian replacement) knew there was no point in returning to the League. As a failure, he was meant to be disposed of. He even thought of simply allowing himself to perish, since that was what the League would do.
But he couldn't help but feel as though that would be a waste of a resource. Surely he could be of more use to the League alive than dead?
That tiny bit of rebellious logic is what caused Danny to go into hiding, only living on based on the off chance he would find opportunities to further the League's goals. Obviously, that mentality didn't last long after being exposed to the real world and meeting one Jazz Fenton.
Being adopted by the Fentons was the best cover Danny could have asked for, since any odd behavior he couldn't hide while he was learning how to be "normal" was totally overshadowed by the sheer bizarre eccentricity of his new parents. He was still the neighborhood weird kid, but even that was a major upgrade from disposable tool, so Danny considered it a win.

phenomenal episode overall. kendall demanding clouds because he saw them in berlin and trying not to cry when the stagehands cannot in fact build berlin in a day. matsson walking barefoot across a tarmac. shiv and tom biting deep into each other's forearms to see who can withstand the pain the longest in public at a fancy business event. roman firing a random woman because she didn't seem to think he lived up to his dad. roman firing gerri because she doesn't think he lives up to his dad. roman regretting firing gerri immediately and asking ken to undo it but ken is overjoyed and says it's what dad would do so roman smiles and says okay. kendall floating faceup in a body of water that he dove into of his own accord. shiv booking an empty conference room to cry in when no one's around. gerri saying fuck. karl serving cunt. roman genuinely feeling bad about not including shiv, apologizing to her, and asking if they could all hug. kendall announcing a bizarre dystopian real estate project that's framed as 'like a cruise but on land and forever and by forever we mean forever we're talking cryogenics.' tomshiv playing straight chicken all episode. roman listening to an edit of his father insulting him over and over on the ride home. everything i ever could've wanted

thinking about how Humans Are Space Orcs stories always talk about how indestructible humans are, our endurance, our ability to withstand common poisons, etc. and thats all well and good, its really fun to read, but it gets repetitive after a while because we aren't all like that.
And that got me thinking about why this trope is so common in the first place, and the conclusion I came to is actually kind of obvious if you think about it. Not everyone is allowed to go into space. This is true now, with the number of physical restrictions placed on astronauts (including height limits), but I imagine it's just as strict in some imaginary future where humans are first coming into contact with alien species. Because in that case there will definitely be military personnel alongside any possible diplomatic parties.
And I imagine that all interactions aliens have ever had up until this point have been with trained personnel. Even basic military troops conform to this standard, to some degree. So aliens meet us and they're shocked and horrified to discover that we have no obvious weaknesses, we're all either crazy smart or crazy strong (still always a little crazy, academia and war will do that to you), and not only that but we like, literally all the same height so there's no way to tell any of us apart.
And Humans Are Death Worlders stories spread throughout the galaxy. Years or decades or centuries of interspecies suspicion and hostilities preventing any alien from setting foot/claw/limb/appendage/etc. on Earth until slowly more beings are allowed to come through. And not just diplomats who keep to government buildings, but tourists. Exchange students. Temporary visitors granted permission to go wherever they please, so they go out in search of 'real terran culture' and what do they find?
Humans with innate heart defects that prevent them from drinking caffeine. Humans with chronic pain and chronic fatigue who lack the boundless endurance humans are supposedly famous for. Humans too tall or too short or too fat to be allowed into space. Humans who are so scared of the world they need to take pills just to function. Humans with IBS who can't stand spicy foods, capsaicin really is poison to them. Lactose intolerance and celiac disease, my god all the autoimmune disorders out there, humans who struggle to function because their own bodies fight them. Humans who bruise easily and take too long to heal. Humans who sustained one too many concussions and now struggle to talk and read and write. Humans who've had strokes. Humans who were born unable to talk or hear or speak, and humans who through some accident lost that ability later.
Aliens visit Earth, and do you know what they find? Humanity, in all its wholeness.
