Happy Audio Drama Sunday! What a week! Let's talk about audio drama!

⏰ Nine To Midnight has its own feed now, which I appreciate, as a listener to many of the involved pods, because I didn't get like six iterations of the show in my feed. I did have to go seek it out though, but I'm so glad I did. These stories!!! These STORIES. The second episode in particular stuck out, just banger after banger. Also, what's up David Ault! Always fun to watch David Ault flex.

😈 Dungeons and Daddies this week was on the short side, but woof. I. Love. The Stamplers. I love them. I love you Ron Stampler and Terry Jr. Stampler and Scary Terri Marlowe Stampler. They are ridiculous and excellent. Honestly though, their wonderful energy was just the prelude to the truly heartbreaking Close clan. These boys are so deep in denial they ought to be worried about the bends. Yikes. I'm really looking forward to watching them try to save hell and make up for lost time.

⚡️ Electromancy! Of COURSE it's all happening at the dance. What kind of school story would this be if everything wasn't going to go down at the dance? Like with all fantasy about young people, I love the mixture of extremely high stakes (colonialism and revolution) and extremely low stakes (but what am I going to WEAR). I can't wait for part two. @electromancypodcast

👟 Keep It Steady!!! New episode of Keep It Steady! Our teenage burnout is faced with the mortifying ordeal of having real friends who love him, which is a wild thing for a teen to have to accept when he has zero self esteem. And then on top of everything, he gets concussed! My boy! @keepitsteadypod

⚖️ The Adventure Zone Imbalance has appeared on the feed, which is a relief to me, a person who hates listening to things on youtube. And Davenport is there! My main man! If y'all need to know anything about me, it's that I love Davenport. I missed these guys so much.

🚀 Travelling Light is a new show from @monstrousproductions, and I am THRILLED. I love a travelogue, I love a character with ties to religion, I love a warm scifi show, I love a recipe. I know from their tumblr that the writer and narrator of this show is Quaker, which is a tradition I'm not very familiar with, so I'm interested to see how that perspective influences this story. It's just so NICE.

👻 I started listening to Magenta Presents this week, in an effort to listen to everything Lindsay Sharman has ever done, and this is spooky. Beth Eyre is always a treat to listen to, and Lucy Roslyn, whose work I am not familiar with, is also a fantastic actor. They have great chemistry. I love a true ghost story, and I love a protagonist who feels like she's slowly losing her mind. @longcatmedia

🪓 I've finally arrived at the bit of Woe.Begone where other actors are showing up, and surprise! It's David Ault again! He's everywhere! I haven't interacted with fans of this show, so I had no idea, and apparently fans hate his character. To be fair, I did too, but now David's here doing the voice, and it's so much WORSE. Well done, David.

🍕 I finished s1 of Gastronaut and started s2, and I find myself enamored with this guy, coming from a place of relative privilege, tearing his preconceptions apart with a fork and a knife. The writing is lush, the story is fascinating, and it really hits the spot for me of "moody thoughtful nonfiction." I love it so much. I can't believe there are only two seasons. How dare they. (I trust them though.)

🧛🏻‍♀️ Re: Dracula is done, and we have announced Carmilla! My role in Carmilla will be less than it was for Drac, but I'm still very excited to get in on making this story. It's going to be amazing.

🧟‍♂️ The Dead's second episode has appeared, and I am continually impressed with the people I work with. What a death scene from Marquis Moore! What good acting from Brandon Nguyen! They are a joy to direct.

TB S2 EP 13 THOUGHTS!

True, Omega has gotten really good with being a soldier. She's staying cool in high tension situations, she has good aim, thinks on her feet and outsmarts her opponents easily. But Phee is right, Omega hasn't gotten to just be a kid for a while now. She deserves to have a proper childhood

LOVED seeing Hunter's enhanced senses at work. Sometimes I catch myself going "froce sensitive?" just because he's so hyper-aware

I know it's supposed to be a joke again, but like Wrecker being full for the first time? That's so sad. Imagine going to bed hungry EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. Being full for the first time is something to remember, Tech should be writing it down.

"Pretty spectacular, right?" <- Phee using the word spectacular, even though its not in her usual vocabulary, because she's generally more succinct and down to earth, but it's totally a word Tech would use

"I suppose... that is... one way to... quantify it." <- Whenever Tech talks about data or research (topics without emotional involvement) his sentences flow nicely and evenly and he gets about 100 out in 2 seconds. Whenever he has to talk about emotions or emotions are involved in the conversation suddenly he gets quieter and his sentences have less of a flow. He doesn't stutter, but he needs a minute to get them out. hmm yes very interesting.

Omegas learned a lot and has been pretty secure in her ability, but hearing her sound so scared when the wave came? dang. loved that she immediately called hunter though. V sweet :)

Like she knows people and is clearly good with relationships, and he recognises that and trusts her to point him in the right direction, WHICH HE DIDN'T AT THE BEGINNING OF THE EPISODE!!!

"Clearly, the mission we got isn't a mission fitting for the first second years." Nanami remarks, his expression seemingly unbothered but at the same time, tired as he walks alongside Haibara towards the airport's exit. "I'm just glad that it's over."

"Me too! Though, the latest mission that we went on has gotten me all psyched for some reason!" Haibara exclaims excitedly, clearly still full of energy despite just arriving back from their assigned mission.

"Besides--" The black-haired boy added optimistically, "-- I noticed that our upperclassmen have been wearing themselves to the bone to protect innocent people; so we have to give it our all too!"

Nanami just sighs as a reply, turning his head to the other way once again.

Suddenly, a cheery yet silvery voice rang in the air, stopping their train of thoughts; accompanied with a series of footsteps running towards them in full speed.

"GOSH FINALLY YOU TWO ARE BACK-!!" You call out loudly even from afar, rushing over the two of them excitedly-- glomping them into a rather tight hug. "It's so great that both of you made it back safely! I swear I MISSED you two so much!!"

Nanami just stands there awkwardly, unmoving for a while there; Haibara grins happily while patting your head with the same energy that you radiated.

"AND WE MISSED YOU TOO, (Y/N)!!"

"Are we done here, or-? I need my rest." Nanami mutters quietly, his facial expression remains unchanged even for the slightest bit, tilting his head to the side slightly. You merely rolled your eyes playfully at his behavior, finally letting go of them from the hug.

"Anyway," You tried to ignore Nanami's previous statement as per usual, casually suggesting. "You guys wanted to grab something to eat? I'm kinda starving from all the waiting earlier."

"YOU WAITED FOR US FOR THAT LONG?!" Haibara exclaims in surprise, a concerned expression is etched upon his features-- to which you replied with a sheepish smile.

"I uhh, I don't have anything better to do earlier anyway. And besides, I just felt the hunger now, y'know.." You tried your best to give a valid reason, only to cause the black-haired male to send you the look of 'are you sure?', being not fully convinced. Nanami merely sighs at the situation unfolding in front of him, before deciding to speak up.

"If that's so, we could stop by at some restaurant if you want." He tells; his expression still not giving away much but nonetheless, the words he uttered had a certain gentleness to it.

Your eyes lit up instantly at this. "For sure! Or the bakery cafe, perhaps?"

After making a decision, the three of you have come to an agreement to stop by at the local bakery cafe instead.

Located not too far down the streets, the bakery cafe exudes a welcoming and cozy vibes to it. The chairs and tables are being arranged very nicely; most of them are occupied as always. The three of you are seated on one of the available seats nearby, having your desired type of bread with you.

Nanami was sitting across from Haibara, and you decided to sit beside Haibara instead.

"Damn, this tastes so good!" The black-haired male states whilst eating rather quickly, due to the delicious taste of the bread. You swing your legs a bit, enjoying the taste of your own as well. It makes you feel very content for some reason, probably because the two of them are with you at the moment too.

Nanami, however, has his eyes silently gazing upon your form as he eats; not really bothering to join in the small talk that you and Haibara are having at the moment. He doesn't even know why, he doesn't understand himself at all.

There's just.. something stirring within him whenever he sees you being all too happy while babbling about random stuff to Haibara.

Was it jealousy, or something else? Whatever it is, Nanami couldn't really tell himself, and it seemed ridiculous considering the three of you have been friends for quite some time now. Not once had he felt this way before.

Don't tell me I'm feeling envious of them right now..

The moment your eyes make contact with his, he immediately averts his gaze elsewhere; trying his best to hide the fact that he just spent a few minutes to simply stare at you.

Haibara, despite appearing to be oblivious to the current situation, sent Nanami some sort of a knowing look. There's a small hint of a teasing-like smirk tugging on the corner of his lips, causing for the blonde-haired male to be dumbfounded, yet secretly nervous once he has taken notice of this.

What is the meaning of this-?

Does it look obvious or something..?

"Guys, I'm gonna go to the washroom for a sec!" You excused yourself, bringing Nanami out of his trance once again. "And if I'm late-- wait I might be a bit late because I need to head out to the store for a while! I'll be back, I promise!" With that, you jogged away, leaving the two alone for now.

Once you're quite far away from them and out of the bakery shop, the two remain in silence for a few more minutes; Nanami's expression is back to its neutral state. Haibara spares him a glance, before deciding to try something out.

"... So, do I look good with (Y/N)?" Nanami almost choked on his own bread upon his question, looking rather confused and surprised as he stared back at his friend.

Haibara is secretly enjoying this. Nanami seems completely unaware that he's testing his reaction, and wants his true answer.

"What are you talking about..?"

"You heard me!"

There's an awkward silence after that, which leads Nanami to start believing that this might go wrong anytime soon, but yet Haibara still looks so determined--

"You two would look great together. There." Nanami simply remarks, returning his attention back on his unfinished bread; trying to distract himself from the current situation.

Even not realizing it himself that his tone has a hint of jealousy within it.

What he just said isn't entirely wrong either. The two of you really match with each other very well. Unlike him, or so he thought.

Truth to be told, Haibara was pretty much taken aback by his friend's response, but at the same time, very typical of him to do so. But then, a grin starts to be present upon his face, leaning forward a bit as if to whisper something back to Nanami; whose head is still downwards, probably having a mental war against himself.

"I knew you liked her."

"Wha-- What are you talking about-?!"

"Oh come on, it's quite obvious! Your voice tone gets softer whenever she's around!"

"I don't--" Nanami cuts himself off, sighing in exasperation, before finally giving in. Surprisingly.

"Please stop that." He almost begs again, now actually showing the slightest hint of panic across his features. Haibara smirks triumphantly at this while Nanami sighs again.

"Fine. Maybe I do like her, a bit more." He finally admits while staring somewhere else, his cheeks are getting warmer after his little admission. Oh, the things you did to him... It's a rare sight to see, indeed.

A laugh escapes from Haibara at his current expression, grinning in satisfaction. "I KNEW IT!! I was RIGHT all along!"

Once he calms down a bit, he clasps his hands together. "Sorry, I got a bit too excited about this whole situation!" The black-haired male apologizes sheepishly, before continuing. "But yeah! You should confess to her soon by then. Unless..."

"Soon-- unless what-??" Nanami questions back almost instantly, obviously trying to get ahold of himself at the moment. His patience is slowly wearing thin by Haibara's continuous teasing.

How can he escape this situation now--

The black-haired sunshine merely chuckled once noticing Nanami's usual irritated expression is back.

"Unless you want someone else to take her away from you~!" It takes all of his strength to contain himself still, feeling the line quite sappy than his usual taste.

But Haibara has a valid point too. He freezes up momentarily at the possible thought, but eventually relaxes slightly while crossing his arms. At least, trying to be.

A slight blush is still visible on his face as he begins to contemplate on Haibara's words even further.

Perhaps, he should really do it soon.

"Hey, you can do this; I believe in you! Go for it, and don't wait for too long!" Haibara reminds optimistically, gently placing his hand on Nanami's shoulder with a reassuring smile-- to which his features soften up ever so slightly at this.

A few days have passed since their arrival; Haibara was away with Geto for now, leaving you and Nanami alone inside the dorms. More like, Nanami's dorm room since you wanted some company right at the moment. Even Shoko and Satoru are nowhere to be found, though Shoko is most likely around Jujutsu High anyway since she wasn't the type to be sent out to missions.

Thankfully, the heat from the day lessens as the sky darkens, the clock exactly on eight p.m. It feels a bit chilly at this moment, and you were resting your arms on your knees as you sat by the stairs, just near Nanami's room.

The skies weren't very clear that night, but a few stars, at least, were visible for viewing.

Nanami was sitting on a chair while busying himself with reading some book, trying to keep his mind preoccupied. But it didn't last long as his eyes landed upon you, who's still gazing upwards towards the sky. Your presence alone simply made him realize that he's not alone in there, and the air of peacefulness surrounds you both. It made him feel calm, honestly.

A thought suddenly crosses his mind, causing for him to have a mental debate for a while there. But after doing some contemplation, he decided to just act on it. He doesn't really care anymore; it's now or never.

Closing his book after-- Haibara's words rang through his mind as he began to slowly approach you. Taking a deep breath, the nervous feeling began to kick in within him despite his seemingly usual stoic facade on the outside.

"Hey, (Y/N).." He starts, clearing his throat a bit to grab your attention. "Do you have a moment-- there's something that I really need to tell you."

By this point, you turned your head to look at Nanami; your expression turned to one of wonder and curiosity as you gave him all the attention that he needed.

"You alright, Ken?"

He pauses for a bit; his hands tightened into a fist by itself due to his own anxiousness. His gaze is fixated forward yet downcast, clearly having a hard time with the situation that he's about to face.

Just have to say it right now.. No turning back now.

His eyes slowly shifted from the ground and to your own, gathering his courage to speak once more. The words he has been meaning to say.

"I have a confession to make."

"Actually, I like you more than a friend, if you get what you mean."

Nanami stops himself momentarily there for now, his voice somehow becomes quieter and softer as he utters the last few words. He just silently hoped that he wouldn't turn this into a regretful situation.

It was your turn to be surprised. Like VERY surprised. I mean, who knew right? It's quite unexpected for you, yet you weren't really expecting much either.

"Wait, you do-?"

"Yeah." Nanami gradually nods in confirmation. "It's... Been quite hard for me to keep this to myself all this entire time, honestly."

"So, I figured that it's best if I let it out right now."

She needs to know.

"I always thought of you as a great friend; along with Yu, of course. But that's not the point here. Since the past few weeks, I have come to a realization about how much you mean to me."

By all the time he's confessing, you listen to everything he says intently-- letting his words sink within your heart itself.

It's so genuine hearing all of this from him, despite his occasional struggle with his own words.

Nanami keeps his gaze on you the whole time, finding himself unable to look away. His whole demeanor changes to one of seriousness yet calm while doing so, now feeling determined all of a sudden despite his anxiousness from earlier.

"I was afraid, actually; that my feelings for you might not be reciprocated, and that my efforts alone aren't enough. I'm sorry if my words seemed out of place, I'm just--" He sounds so... Vulnerable, at this point. His voice is shaky, his hands are trembling ever so slightly.

But you paid no mind to it as you gently held onto his hands, pulling him into an embrace after.

Nanami was caught off guard by your actions, perhaps expecting an instant rejection. But that didn't happen at all as you start speaking reassuringly as a reply.

"Kento, I'm so touched, truly..." Your voice is so soothing to him, which results in his face reddening slightly as he returns the embrace slowly-- his expression becomes more serene and content, burying his face in the crook of your neck while you continue.

"I was surprised, to say the least. Who would've thought, right?" You joked a bit, rubbing the back of his head tenderly. He still has his face hidden, but a small smile is present, however.

With his grip around your waist tightens; but not to the point of discomfort, Nanami lifts his head from your neck while a small blush is still apparent on his face.

"I may not show it much, but.. I feel happier when I'm around you. I totally understand if you didn't feel the same way as I did with you, I'm just relieved that I'm able to let it out to you like this."

Nanami whispers at the end of his sentence; clearly expecting the worst. But you paid no mind to it yet again as you rather feel comfortable like this, having no reason to reject him at all.

Because you do feel the same way.

Your scent gives him a sense of comfort as always. He exhales a bit, before breathing in a slow, calm manner.

"Having to hold it in is painful for me, and finally realizing this moment myself; it's honestly the most comforting feeling I've ever felt in a long time."

You merely smiled up at him in pure adoration.

"I know, I could tell, and I'm really glad you did." You tenderly stroked the back of his blonde hair even more.

"And I love you too, Kento. I mean it." Nanami slowly lifts his head from your neck upon hearing this, his face flushes once again.

But this time, a genuine, happy smile is plastered on his face, to which it matches with your own.

Slowly, but surely, he leaned his face closer to yours, as the two of you finally shared a rather cute, short kiss for the first time. It's so gentle as if he's being very careful and handling you with the extreme care that you deserve.

When the two of you have to break apart for air, his hand finds its' way to lift your chin lovingly-- just so you can maintain your gaze up at him.

To which you absolutely did; your cheeks had a hint of redness on it, eyes seemed to shine beneath the moonlight itself. The smile didn't ever leave your face even for a second due to how happy you felt right at this moment, as he did as well.

Not too long after, you both shared a light laugh as the slight awkwardness begins to creep in the tender moment you two have shared; still looking flustered as ever.

Haibara's gonna have a loooot of fun teasing you both once he knows about it.

Really enjoy reading your analyses of Netflixvania. Makes me feel like I'm not crazy for disliking the series, since it seems most people really like it. I'm not a huge Castlevania fan (I wasn't even aware of any Castlevania manga until I read your posts), but the fight with Dracula at the end of season 2 just felt really off to me. Like every single character came out of it ten times worse than when they started. So I'm curious, what do you think of how Dracula was defeated?

I'm glad you liked it! <3 And I completely understand. The show gets praised to high heavens from everyone, and while I can dismiss the occasional "god i want to smother myself in alucard's tiddies" post, the long articles gushing about the stellar animation and carefully woven characters leave me more at loss... And like I said, it's not even a matter of being a fan of the games, the writing itself is seriously flawed.

Anyway, the Dracula sequence has me conflicted.

Pros:

Dracula is appropriately shown to be an absolute beast in combat. Three against one can barely scratch the guy. And Godbrand says in an earlier episode that Dracula hasn't been feeding regularly, meaning he's also in a weakened state. It is, in theory, viscerally satisfying to see.

The animation finally reaches the standards that the general praise attributes to it. That is to say, it's really fucking cool. I appreciated the focus given to his giant Hellfire attack, since it's his most iconic one (although I don't think it should be touched with anything, but eh)

The "my boy" sequence is the most heartwrenching scene in the show, both because it's simply well written, because I like the poetry that a monster like Dracula can only be put down by his own human emotions, and because Graham McTavish's back must have hurt so bad, carrying the show like that. Seriously, he's leagues above every other voice actor.

Cons:

Dracula being an absolute beast only makes me angrier in retrospect because the rest of S2 painted him as a Depressed Old Man™ slumping in his chair and being too Tired to properly supervise the war he started. "Carmilla has made her move" no shit you absolute dumbass, you and your lackey Isaac allowed her to do so! You were aware that she was dangerous and you didn't care!! Where were you all this time!!!

(and don't give me "well drac doesn't lift his own ass until the very last possible moment in the games either, it's lore accurate". that is a sign of arrogance and power. like drac doesn't need to lift a finger to stop intruders in their tracks, his legions of hell can do all the work. only if you actually, physically reach him, then he starts to fight. In the show he was so apathetic, that I almost lowkey agree with Carmilla's frustrations... and that's the point. It was artificial conflict for the sake of propping this OC.)

Dracula no-selling every attack paints the heroes as weak. Especially Trevor, who after making such a scene of the Morning Star in a previous episode can only piss him off with it.

Trevor punching Dracula, and him recognizing him as a Belmont because of that. The sheer lack of respect towards Trevor as a character and the source material cannot be contained :^)

(and this is minor, but I don't like how Sypha is the one getting scarred by the encounter. Alucard also got scarred by his father way back at the beginning, as he loves to flaunt. Meaning, Trevor is the only one who wasn't impacted by him, which boggles my mind - the scars that game Trevor has on his face and chest aren't there for show! They mark him as the Legendary Belmont who first survived against the Dark Lord! Why do y'all hate this guy so much?)

Alucard steals the entire glory. In a vacuum, it makes sense because they have the closest, most interesting relationship. Lore wise, this should have been Trevor's moment and once again he gets deprived of it. The Belmonts just don't have a legacy in the show.

Overall, For Love is a very well written emotional payoff to a huge waste of time. I don't care that Alucard is setting to kill his father because we barely know how he feels about that. I don't care that Trevor is finally about to fulfill his own legacy because the show kept spitting on it. Sypha is just there to be OP I guess. Their entire "arc" in S2 was them getting cooped up in the Belmont Hold, and Alucard and Sypha having fun being the biggest dicks to Trevor. They didn't even train! The most they did was to conveniently find that the castle uses an engine to move.

... so I have more negatives than positives lmao. I agree with your general assertion that everyone looks worse than they should. However, there are genuine aspects to praise. I guess the scene is beautiful if you're a fan of Dracula and Alucard, and really disappointing if you're a fan of Trevor :P

Incoherent GO Rambles for prosperity

It's been two weeks and three days since Good Omens 2 dropped, and I'm still not over it.

CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR GOOD OMENS S2!!

For not even having WANTED the show, back when they announced it, I haven't been this in love with anything since S1!

I mean, I love the book and I was all for it when they said they're going to make a show out of it. (Do NOT get me started on the awesomeness of the cast; those who had been around, KNOW - the rest doesn't need to know the extents of my unhingedness back then!!!) I mean, I have a GO banner in my kitchen, for crying out loud!

Anyhow, when they announced a second season, I was more or less meh! Yes, I didn't really want it, it felt like overstaying its welcome and making the best of something that was too damn epic to be replicated again!!! (Which is still true for many sequels these days - some things just do NOT need a continuation! Some things just are allowed to END permanently!!!)

Boy, was I wrong!!! On second thought, I should've known. Neil (and Rob) know what they're doing. If anyone could make a second season of something that only existed in Neil's and Terry's heads, it was them.

Of course I was happy to get DT and MS back - they're just fucking epic together! Of course I followed the filming of it - it's DT, I always do (casually). But I didn't really care as much for it as I did for S1. I did see the promos and everything, I watched the trailer but my heart wasn't really in it.

But of course I watched it when it dropped (I'm not nothing but loyal to something I love(d), and I will always give it the benefit of a doubt). Well, I watched the first episode at work (calm day, and boss doesn't really care much anymore) and then the second one and since a dear friend had a head-start on me, she made sure I watched the 3rd one as well - I have never ever laughed this much about a stupid zoom-out onto a CAR in fucking EVER!!!!

I mean, that was one of the few reasons I was actually excited about it - John freaking Finnemore - I've been watching and listening to him for over a decade now (Thanks BC) so I KNEW it would be good on the writing front (Yes, I know, Neil's also very good at it, I never questioned the writing or anything!! I love him dearly; just didn't feel we needed more, that's all!)

Anyhow, I had to stop watching and could only finish after work on Saturday. I'm still utterly amazed that I wasn't spoilered on it - and GOOD LORD, am I glad for that!!!! Even The Leak didn't make it on any of my sm's - well, it did but I had that much self control to NOT click any links... which I will never not be grateful for!!!!!

Because it surprised me, shocked me, blew my fucking mind!!!!! In the best possible way, mind you!!!

I've NEVER really seen those two as lovers.

There, I said it. For me they had been best friends, platonic soulmates, whatever you wanna call two beings who hung around each other for over 6000 years and still wanna be around one another.

Of course I saw it all before: the art, the fics, the meta's and hey, good on you. Just wasn't how I saw it but hey, that's totally fine.

So The Kiss really caught me off guard. Like, staring at my screen with my mouth open and my heart pounding kind off guard.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I couldn't believe Neil went and did that. It was just too damn good to be true!!! (I mean, I've watched OFMD, I KNOW it's possible to do that but its soooo fucking rare these days, it's always better to expect disappointment than something some people have been waiting and wanting for over 30 years!!!!)

The rewind button got a workout, I was soo glad I wasn't at work watching that, so I could freak out properly, and I will be forever grateful that I had my friend who had watched it so I could scream and wail at her all I wanted and she was there for me, holding me virtually, screaming with me and just in general keeping me from losing my mind entirely.

It took me a while to wrap my head around it (still trying to catch up with all of Neil's asks (as I had been ignoring a lot beforehand as I didn't want to be spoilered too much)) and Im still sooo very much in love with it.

Yes, I am. It's maybe not the show I wanted but BY GOD, it's the show I needed. I loved S1, and I fucking ADORE S2 just as much. The whole damn thing is just perfect (as I should've known with Neil!) and I swear, Amazon better be renewing it, unless they want to deal with an angry mob of GO fans descending on their headquarters...

I ignore all the bigots and homophobes and in general people complaining about it because they're just wrong. If they still don't get it, yeah well... they never will.

I love how my very own perception of these two has shifted now. I mean, I knew they loved each other, just never really in THAT way (still understood why and how others may saw that differently, that's the beauty of fandom!). I still don't see it very sexual (right now at least), more like the kind of deep and endless love that comes after having spend sooo much time together, having avoided Armageddon and scheming against their bosses. It comes with trust and a feeling of 'he knows me better than I know myself'. It's a love humans probably never will have, and it's so fucking beautiful I wanna weep!!!

It made me write my first GO fic (after having tried and failed back in the days), and I hope there will be more because I am fucking inspired right now!!!

It made me fall back in love with DT which I never say no to *hehe* I mean, he's always been there for the past decade or so, at the back of my fandom life, popping up every now and then when there's new things he's done but boy, did he stoke that simmering flame into a roaring fire with his beautifully nuanced and incredibly heartbreaking Crowley! It does help that he ages like the finest wine and has never looked better! (although im still sad that demons apparently don't have freckles... god, I love those freckles so much!)

I'm still a little taken aback at the INTENSITY of my own feelings for this season! Right now, there's nothing more pressing than having the confirmation for a third season and then getting that on its way. (Its DOES help to know that Neil would be writing a novel in the VERY UNLIKELY case of S3 NOT happening!) But hey, that's take time, so I'll do the one thing I am really really good at - waiting. Trusting that the strike will resolved in favour of the artists, knowing that as soon as that happens, Neil will get on it. Hoping DT and MS still wanna do a third act with those two idiots, and knowing I will be a lot more invested in everything again going forward!!!

Until then, I will be rewatching it over and over, look at all the beautiful art and read all the wonderful fics, maybe write some more myself and just revel in the unapologetic love Neil (and the fandom) has for these two (That man's a fucking SAINT - I've never seen anyone have this much patience with our fandom, yet he's not afraid to call people out on their assholery if needed and I will love him deeply and wholly for the rest of my life!)

So yeah, basically just wanna say how very much I love Good Omens S1 AND S2!!! And that I was wrong!

I watched stranger things s1 way back when it aired and thought it was pretty good but then couldn’t be bothered to keep watching when s2 came out and haven’t paid it any thought since and yet now after seeing gif after gif of Eddie fucking Munson and reading headcanons and ficlets about steddie on tumblr I’m suddenly in a position where I’ve read at least 300k worth of steddie ao3 fics and I can tell I’m not about to stop any time soon. I still haven’t watched any more of the show. What is this strange power Steve and Eddie hold

omggg i feel this in my BONES. only difference is i have watched all of it (some seasons multiple times hskgsd) BUT. i totally get what you mean. like there is just SOMETHING about eddie goddamn munson. like, they put fucking CRACK in that boy or something lol.

i was a VERY casual fan before s4, like i watched s1 when it first aired too and i really liked it! but it was definitely one of those this is really cool i really dig it but i'm not like obsessed kind of likes. and i got excited about the other seasons too and i binged them all when they came out, but again, super casual!! like once i watched that would be it. i wouldn't really think about it all that much after. i didn't seek out any fan spaces for it, didn't really discuss the plots or analyze it or anything outside of like very general predictions with family and friends who watched too, and i certainly didn't create or write for it at all.

but then season god damn 4. season goddamn 4 and eddie goddamn munson!!!! i fell in LOVE. i got SUCKED IN. i was pulled DEEP. the obsession set innnnn, that funky little dude sunk his claws in deep and dragged me headfirst into a full on stranger things fixation - dedicating my blog to it, reading a million fics, writing a million fics, joining discords, signing up for zines - and i am STILL hooked, 4? 5? months later?

there's just something SO good about eddie and something SO good about steddie!!! steve and eddie just FIT so goddamn WELL it's insane, truly, how complimentary they are to one another. i reblogged a post about it earlier, where it pointed out how steve and eddie so clearly want the same things, how they have plans for the future but those plans are not set in stone, they're flexible, and all that really matters is if they're together and are able to get and give the support they need to. also i feel like they're both SO easy to put into any sort of situation - ESPECIALLY eddie. because like as much as the show gives him plenty of interests and traits and all, he is still SUCH a malleable character, still SO easy to project onto and relate to and to shape into what you want him to be. and that makes for a WONDERFUL canvas to work from.

and honestly, i am SO glad that this did happen, because like i've met so many incredible people through this fandom already and i've had such a good time, and also steddie has sort of like reignited my love for writing too? like, i didn't not love writing before steddie, but i felt like i was sort of in a writing slump for a very long time. like i wrote for other fandoms and pairings but i would never make it past 10 fics (barely even made it past 5 for some!!) and it just wouldn't stick, and i just wasn't coming up with ideas or getting that spark of inspiration. but with steddie ohhh my god!!! it's been FANTASTIC!! i've been writing more the past couple of months than i have the last like 2 years. i've broken the under 10 fics curse with them haha and i have sooo many ideas still. and the response to the fics i have posted has been insane!!! like so good! and i am blown away!!

so yeah, basically i owe eddie munson my goddamn LIFE sjfdhksf

(also, i totally do recommend you watch the rest!! like the show has it's issues and some rocky narrative choices, like all shows do, but overall it is a very enjoyable show and there's a lot of good stuff that comes out of the other seasons too!! ESP season 3, my beloved. scoops steve?? YES. scoops troop team up?? YESS. robin buckley introduction!!! YESSS!!)

What do you make of the snow ball scene? I don’t understand why Mike pushes Will to dance with that girl. I also am a little confused about why they had Will be so visibly uncomfortable about being asked to dance, and then look to Mike for help, but later he’s smiling as he dances with her. Do you think maybe the smile was fake, or was he genuinely having fun? I’m starting to really believe in byler, but you also can’t deny that Mike really wanted to dance with El, or that he was very sad when he thought she wouldn’t make it. And I thought maybe we would see Will sad that he couldn’t dance with Mike, but maybe Will’s feelings for Mike just weren’t romantic yet since they were still so young. Do you think in the case of byler this would be a writing flaw, or is there something more to the scene?

I don't think I have any bold opinions on the snowball scene, I know many people think thats when mike realized his feelings for will but i personally don't think so

with mike pushing will to dance with that girl, i honestly can't see him NOT doing that? we know now with season 3 and 4 that mike is dealing with some form of internalized homophobia, so i can definitely see that playing a big part. i believe within the original character descriptions it mentioned that mike was insecure about not having a girlfriend. in s3, Mike is also shown saying "I mean what did you think, really? that we were never going to get girlfriends?" which had always struck me as odd, since mike almost described it... as something on a bucket list? get a girlfriend? idk. so the snowball scene could possibly be mike projecting his insecurities onto will? kind of like "hey. this is your chance. go get a girlfriend." does that make sense? thats how i interpret it!!!

with will smiling while dancing with the girl, that is most definitely a fake smile lol. it isnt necessarily OBVIOUS but if you pay attention to the song playing while they dance i believe its something along the lines of "with every smile you fake"- which clues into the fact that he wasn't having fun. plus i mean we know will is gay so i don't think he was necessarily enjoying it; ESPECIALLY taking into consideration the glance he gave mike when she asked. it was a "help, what do i do" look. going off of this, they definitely wouldn't/shouldn't have included will wanting to dance with mike. this was s2, right? my memory of the earlier seasons is fuzzy, but this definitely isn't a writing flaw. I'm glad they took will's love for mike at a slow pace. Him longing to dance with mike would have been too explicit too early. I mean, we didn't even know if will liked mike in s3. it was all still speculation. so to have something so obvious in s2 would kind of mess up the pace of the slowburn imo. i think having the "with every smile you fake" line from the song is genius. something so subtle yet so OUT THERE. something that makes you think "huh. i wonder why they had that line for that specific scene." but now that we know will is gay and in love with mike, its like "oh!!!! thats why!!!!!"

with mike and el, boy that is a hard one. m/leven in the earlier seasons is confusing, but overall i think that mike and el were mistaking their feelings for each other as romantic. i mean, if we take into consideration mike being insecure about not having a gf, and the fact that lucas and others almost forced romantic feelings onto m/leven's relationship, i can totally see mike messing up his feelings and viewing them for el in a skewed way. overall i do love the snowball scene, and i feel like its one of the only m/leven moments where they're both genuinely happy to see each other, with no relationship drama. i love it.

but overall i think mike was pressuring will to get a gf and be "normal" while also pressuring himself to rush into this romantic relationship with el.

i figured you don't really care about stranger things that much anymore but how would you feel if byler becomes canon? would you be glad? would it change your current opinion on the show?

(firstly, disclaimer: I care very much about the show and these characters, which is precisely why I've been so critical of the last two seasons. I love S1-2, and am still writing as if they're the only seasons which aired!)

moving onto your question, it's a good one. although it partly depends on how they pull it off, I'm inclined to think that it wouldn't change my opinion of the show's current state.

whether it's been intentional or not, mike wheeler is a totally different character in seasons 1-2 from how he is seasons 3-4. are we really expected to believe that this boy, who spent nearly a week at will's side in s2 without so much as changing his clothes, is the same person who shamelessly admitted in front of will that his life started the day he found out will went missing? will fell in love with the old mike - how could he believably want to be with the new mike?

character regression aside, a pronouncement like this would cause a massive rift between the two characters. and even if they play it off like he was just saying anything he thought of to save el, that wouldn't change will's perspective on the situation.

any good writer knows that such issues would take more time to fix than the show has left. even if they bloat s5 out to 13 hours like they did with s4, there are too many other characters and storylines to be able to give mike and will the arc they've deserved since s2. any attempt to do so now would seem rushed, and would give the byler critics (you know who I mean) the ammunition they crave to decry the relationship as sudden, underdeveloped and pandering to a specific audience.

meanwhile, the mainstream media would hail the show as *the* queer show of the decade, and the creators would rake in the rewards of having achieved the absolute bare minimum.

please excuse my pessimism. I have so much respect for people who still believe it will happen and are excited for it. but "once bitten, twice shy" - and I was bitten by s3 more than bob was by the demodogs, and I can't see a way out of this that affords the show's queer viewers any justice.

I'd never consumed any nancy drew media before and I fell in love with the show and now I adore nace only I'm just finding out nick/nancy is the ultimate nancy endgame in all other forms of nancy drew media and I'm in this place where it's hanging over my enjoyment of the ship I've been burned many times and I'm afraid(this is frankly a very likely possibility) they're gonna give us nace then circle back to nick/nancy endgame and I like fanerson but they happened too fast to last by cw standards

First of all, I’m so glad you’re loving the show! It is really, truly amazing.

Second, I know what you mean, I go through patches where this same thought haunts me 😂 I just had a rough time with it last week. It is definitely a possibility, I can’t lie to you about that. But you know what else?

Nancy/Ned isn’t necessarily the most popular ship within the general Nancy Drew fandom, either. Many people prefer her with a Hardy boy (hello Ace). A lot of adaptations tease the Nancy/Hardy connection but never end up there - and what is this show all about if not breaking the mold? The way Nace is being built is already so careful and intentional and truly epic - one for the ages. Their dynamic snuck up from behind and weaved its way into the heartbeat of this show. They created something unforeseeably captivating and special, and the writing in s2 is only making it better. As a writer myself, I wouldn’t want to squander that magic in the end for something that would be more of a risk just because it follows conventional canon.

Now that’s just me; I don’t know what the writers are going to do. But it’s a thought that provides me a bit of comfort.

I also realize the futility of worrying about endgames on a tv show. I still do it, literally all the time, clearly 😂 but sometimes it helps to remind myself that it’s a work of fiction, endgame is a long way away, and the best thing I can do for myself in the meantime is to enjoy the journey we’re getting right now!

Definitely not s1-s2 Utsumi, who is in love with Rinharu and was bashed for adoring them too much.

So Dive to the Future that everyone wants to forget and Starting Days that wasn’t a good novel interpretation, and actually flushed all the moments important for character’s depth and development? I honestly wouldn’t listen to those, but I highly doubt it was Kawanami, cause I don’t think he cared even about their friendship in s3. So Takemoto of SD then? But SD is not good for MH either.. so who in their opinion said that... an imaginary Makoharu director?

Honestly, I of course, don’t know all the directors, just the main ones.

But I can tell it’s a fan quote just from your phrasing, cause no one from the directors would’ve called Makoto Haru’s half. The only one who dared to say something like that was Miyano Mamoru who called Rinharu a “destined pair”. Since then and the creators using the term of “red string of fate” about their relationships, the jealousy has started. And the second half sounds like “Rin loves Haru only for swimming” which is also the nonsense MH fans created, they’ve been throwing around since forever, and we’ve discussed it just recently.

Also “if it hadn’t been for swimming rin and haru wouldn’t be friends” is that the actual quote. Cause it’s hilarious then, bc in official characters interview there was a moment when they were asked what connects all of them and Makoto answered that without swimming they probably wouldn’t connect, it was Rin who said “mhhhh... probably” and added “if you say it like that”. So LMAO I’m just wondering, are they all ok?

It’s also been a problem several times already about Makoharu spreading the false translations, when it comes to anime subtitles too. And I know that japanese is hard and stuff can sometimes be interpreted differently, depending on the context, but many purposefully demeaned some scenes and translate it to their own benefit. It took me a while to get to all the subtleties in many scenes.

It took forever and Netflix to translate Sousuke’s phase as “you’re in love with him”, but I still remember watching it back then with “you’re interested in him” which I might say “infatuated” can’t be translated as “interested in”. It’s an entire different feeling, and things like that changes scenes, just like when in “Untamed” they’ve translated “best friend” instead of “soulmate” it’s very different vibe of the scene, so it can actually change the whole feeling during the watching.

Tbh no offense to anyone, but I’m seriously tired of this already. I haven’t seen anywhere else shippers like that, who constantly spread so much idiotism around. And aslo legitimately pretend that it’s real. I mean, if you want to prove your ship, do it with canon stuff and if you can’t then maybe don’t try then. It’s the first fandom I see who just cause they don’t have canon proof use the opposite ship moments instead or come up with some nonsense to diss it, which doesn’t even make sense if you have brains. And the ammount of people, who believe it and don’t even check or too lazy to read is just incredible.

Like recently my sister sent me a post from instagram with 1k likes where it described Makoto as a “protective af”. 1k people, who apparently need glasses and a hearing aid or they watched anime with their asses.

It’s Rin who loves Haru not just for swimming, canonically proven, it’s Rin who is protective over Haru, canonically proven, it’s Rin who’s obsessed with Haru’s smile and will do everything to see it, canonically proven, it’s Rin who made Haru see his future and made his dream come true, canonically proven. Not yours, can’t touch it. And no, Makoharu is not any of that.

Last time I saw something idiotic was the creators of AOT who replaced the Armin/Eren manga scenes in anime with Mikasa. All that it proves is that Mikasa/Eren ship sucks balls. Still... look at all the shippers, especially boys, who if saw the same scene with Armin would’ve said it’s just bromance. Same with Makoharu who basically write fics about Rin and Haru, but replace his name with Makoto. Good luck with beeing a moron.

Just now talked to a girl under my RH vid, who said that she’s more into Makoharu, and how Makoto is the best for him and that she doesn’t understand why hating Makoto for not having any life goals (yeah, really why? lmao), the only thing she hates Makoto for is that he refused to persue swimming with Haru professionally... like... what?

I’m honestly... I get mad at people’s stupidity so lets just pretend that basically everyone ships Rinharu, cause it’s really mostly like that, they’re just too dumb to realize it.

My point is if you ship something, ship it for what it is, if all you do is create the OOC stuff or try to imagine things that’s not even there then it’s not this ship anymore, it’s just two characters you created. And if you steal everything from other ship, maybe you just ship them then?

Hey!! I love your fic. I was just wondering - and yes, i know it's unrealistic - if in an ideal, paradise world Stranger Things decided to go the stoncy route, how would you want them do do it? If you were in the writers' room how would you develop it in a convincing way that fits with the rest of the show? (I'm genuinely curious since you wrote them so well in IASL)

First, thank you so much!

I mean, first and foremost I always want it to be a little bit of a mess since we’re dealing with a time and place where the word "polyamory" was not in circulation and there was no real poly community or overall awareness of polyamory as a way to be. They might be aware of free love in the ‘60s and the concept of swingers but mostly as far as they’re concerned they’re out here in ‘86 Indiana inventing the concept of a triad and it’s hard enough learning normal relationship skills as a teenager without adding unlearning socialized ideas about exclusivity and jealousy on top of that.

So let these idiots fuck it up a bunch, is what I’m saying. Bring on the return of Nancy ‘Say the Meanest Possible Thing to My Boyfriend(s)’ Wheeler.

How would I make it fit the show...man this would be easier if these three had shared a scene together for more than two minutes since S1. This is probably going to get long so more after the cut!

The show loves to trot out ‘shared trauma’ so in this perfect world they actually remember that it applies to Steve, too. So he’s dating around town but it’s not working out with anyone since it gets really, really awkward trying to explain to the girls he sleeps with why he shouts the name of an ice-cream shop during his nightmares without mentioning Russian spies ‘cause yeah, retail is hell but it’s a little excessive.

With Jonathan gone Nancy starts hanging around with Steve more often because she too remembers that he exists and went through all the same shit with them and that he ramming-speeded a Cadillac Eldorado into Billy Hargrove’s face to save her life, and her entire over-14 support system is gone. Steve thinks its a little unfair (and Robin thinks its a lot unfair) but he still cares about her so he goes along with it and Nancy is sort of surprised by how different he is from S1/Early S2 Steve.

Robin is like ‘Oh so you can lie on truth serum ‘cause you’re definitely still in love with her.’ which Steve vehemently denies. He’s just a good friend, buddy, pal. No romantic feelings at all.

Jonathan is in Arizona or Illinois or friggin’ Derry, Maine knowing Joyce’s luck obviously very much missing Nancy. They talk on the phone and Nancy mentions that she’s been hanging out with Steve- now this could go either way the ‘Jonathan Byers is An Angel’ route where he’s okay with it right off the bat or the ‘Jonathan Byers remembers how he and Nancy got together the first time and tries to be okay with it because he is above petty normal people things like still being jealous of the ex-high school jock but can’t let it go and the two of them get into a fight. (where Nancy probably says the meanest possible thing to her boyfriend’ route. Obviously I choose the second one.

We get a scene of Jonathan getting worked up talking about it to Will who is like :/ bro, you are mentioning Steve A LOT in this conversation, aren’t you pissed at Nancy? And Jonathan is taken aback because yeah, he is sort of obsessing about Steve.

Nancy also mentions the fight to Steve because Nancy is bad at this whole ‘don’t put your ex in awkward situations regarding your current relationship’ thing. Steve feels bad.

But before it gets resolved plot stuff kicks off and Joyce and Murray are off to ...sigh...fight evil Russians and free Hopper from a Soviet gulag. Jonathan and Will and El end up back in town however they do and we all wonder why they moved in the first place.

Jonathan, Nancy and Steve end up teamed up FINALLY (In this world Robin ends up on Team El, Max, and Kali because fuck everyone who hates her, Kali is here too and Max deserves her best friend, a big sister, and a tiny super-powered vigilante punk-rock aunt after what they did to her last season. They all kick Brenner’s ass like the last scene in Death Proof, the end) And at some point the boys end up separated from Nancy and try to make awkward conversation and Steve tries to assure him that he’s sorry and he would never get between him and Nancy and once he gets started apologizing he just sort of keeps going- for all of High school, and if he ever ate his bagels in a really weird way, and for the fight and blaming him and Joyce for Will and calling him queer and the two have a real adult conversation where they bury the hatchet and move past high school.

And because I love the fanfic classics, that’s when a monster tries to eat them and Nancy saves them (bonus points if she uses the bat) and afterward they’re just like, ‘Fuck this town, why do we do this EVERY YEAR’ “I MOVED.’but they obviously realize that they make a really good team and actually enjoy each other’s company. The rest of their plot line has them growing increasingly comfortable with each other as they investigate whatever Nancy has dragged them along to investigate. Jonathan says he was wrong to be jealous and Nancy says of course he was because she’s always right because this is still Nancy motherfucking Wheeler and she will never not be that bitch.

Monster stuff. The teams all come together. Hopper is back and the evil Russians defeated, yay. Robin is glad Steve is not dead and vice versa and Steve is like where did you pick up the hot punk-rock chick and did you get her number? And Robin is like long story and yes, why is Jonathan Byers looking at you with heart eyes? Which is information that overloads Steve’s brain and he’s almost glad when the series climax where they all fight a giant monster or a hole in the universe happens right then.

No one dies, or fake dies, or maybe dies or maybe ends up in a Soviet gulag again.

Post- Climax wrap up where we actually see what everyone is doing that night directly after saving the world instead of flashing forward to months later and missing loads and loads of important character moments. After we’ go through everyone else Your Love By The Outfield starts playing because it’s 1986 now and I can FINALLY use it since it was released in ‘85. Steve goes home to (everyone say it with me) an empty house and he seems to debate with himself a little before calling Robin with a question. Nancy and Jonathan are together wherever the Byers’ and Hop are staying when the doorbell rings and it’s Steve who obviously immediately regrets this decision the minute they answer but they bring him inside and the music becomes diegetic as Jonathan puts on the record and closes the bedroom door behind them.

So apparently even in my perfect world where I’m in charge it sort of ends up mostly ramping up to stoncy than pure stoncy over one season. I’m pretty firmly of the opinion that the three of them just messing around in increasingly inclusive ways comes way before any actual poly negotiation or reflection or discussion on their respective sexuality and you can’t show that on PG-13 Netflix so we’re just crashing to black and credits.

I've found you know, so I'll keep an eye out for your work. :) Not sure if that was my comment on ff (I only reviewed the last chapter even though you absolutely deserve a glorious review on every single one of them) but I did like the baby name. I agree that those decision are pretty big ones and I was curious to see what you'd end up doing but I personally didn't have very strong feelings about it. I viewed it as a creative choice

and I could have been sold on Hope or probably other names too as long as the choice was explained and made sense and Eve certainly did. I assume there might have been some unhappy people but then again you can never please everyone and I think you handled that pretty well. I'll be stalking you for now it seems. :) I'll try to be a smart adult and still get in my sleep and work done properly but I can't promise that I won't be spending some of my free time reading your story instead of looking

for a more permanent job than the temporary gig I currently have. But in any case, this is not your concern, your writing brings me joy (fine, and tired eyes but very few things in life are flawless)! Once again, thank you so much for the monumental effort that is The Wold universe. I'm looking forward to S2 and I'll eventually stop by to share my excitement about KC&Eve and the soundtrack suggested (both TVD and TO seems to get the music right most of the time). Yeah, I made peace with the fact that I could never please everyone when it came to the baby name. Some people wanted her to be Hope, some people wanted it to be a boy, some people were disappointed that it wasn't twins. lol I can't win. But yeah, glad you liked the choice! :) It made sense within the story, but I also personally really like the name Eve, so it worked well for me.

I wish you the best of luck with adulting and finding a better job! 🙌 I'm awful at adulting myself, so I know how hard it can be. 😅

I've been adding the songs I have in mind for specific moments as footnotes on the chapters, but I might share the whole playlist at some point.

I had to laugh IRL there. Cos, it’s true. It’s June’s story, technically speaking, not Serena’s. And I dunno but I feel like I suspect that’s where they eventually want to take the show. But S2 is too early for that? I personally don’t know why. There’s no law an American programme must go one for 14 seasons. It could easily be a 4 season series. Or 3! But I’ve read things that Hulu wants to keep it going as long as possible. Huge mistake, imo. Organically speaking, Serena changing course after 2x08, or even, at a push, 2x09 would have made much more sense than this “will she? won’t she?” BS they keep doing with her. I think she’s come around in a way she hadn’t before by the finale (or Eden’s murder). But it still doesn’t seem like it’s something she’ll carry through with--especially without June. It’s interesting how much Serena relies on June for incentive/encouragement. Basically everything Serena’s done in resistance since mid-S2 has been because June has done or challenged her or said something to prompt her. I feel on her own, she would be ~meeker. Even things like, “Hey, so I know this way to possible save the baby... what do you think?” is clearly her going “Please say what I want to hear!” It’s like she can’t just do it herself. She needs June’s input. June was calling almost every shot in 2x08. In 2x09, when left to her own devices, Serena folded. It took June screaming at her in 2x13 for her to do anything about reading. So, without June around I feel like Serena will just go back to old ways. Which is ridic cos she is an intelligent, powerful woman when she actually has the balls. The only thing Serena manages to do on her own is assault, hate speech, and war crimes lol. The easy shit.

That said, I kinda like how they ended 2x08. I loved Fred seeing the rose on June’s bedside and putting all the pieces together and seeing that as the true threat: Serena and June as friends/partners in rebellion. The beating scene was horrific too, mostly cos I’m not one of those weird fans that was sitting there cheering, “YAY I’M SO GLAD SERENA GOT BEAT! SERVES HER RIGHT!” (I just... want to throttle every single person who’s said that. Not necessarily cos I wuv woobie Serena sfm but because way to miss the point of the entire series.) but the aftermath was even worse, imo. June reaching out and attempting to maintain the bond, but Fred managed to break Serena really easily. Like it’s just so awful how easy it was for him to snap that bond, cos he knows his wife and her pride, etc. It was ... so manipulative and evil genius. (Although it doesn’t take a genius to figure that out, Freddie boy.) It was just such a prime example of exactly how they maintain power in Gilead and how they managed to get it working: estranging women from each other. And it was just such an apt way of visualising the concepts June talked about in S1 about keeping women at arm’s length of each other, suspicious, etc. in order for men to keep power. So, in that sense, I thought it was well done. But then... I was like, “OH FUCK THIS. NOT AGAIN. FUCKING SERENA. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. WHY CAN’T SHE BE STRONG LIKE JUNE. UGH.”

I dunno.

Yeah. 2x10. I was “lucky” to have seen that scene ahead of time... so I was prepared when it happened during the episode. But it was still repulsive. Aside from the nonsensical writing of the whole thing, it was just gross. And I think maybe you’re the first person that when talking about this has mentioned how grossed out you are by the other Ceremony scenes. So many people just... don’t really mention them. I remember the article about 2x10 and how the showrunners were saying something along the lines of “Is it really that big of a deal when the same thing has been happening the entire time?” Nobody reacted the same way those times, because the Handmaids are quiet and well-behaved during their rapes, even though, on some level I think Serena and some other wives (IIRC) are completely aware of how terrible it is (Serena even admits as much...but does it anyway uuuggghhhhh.) This is the only time June ever fights back and suddenly not only are Fred and Serena faced with the brutal reality of the act but as the audience we are as well. It’s easy to look the other way when nobody is crying or struggling but WHAM. Fuck that. This is gross and horrible and here is what it REALLY is. And it’s hard to swallow.

June crying Serena’s name was probably the absolute worst part, cos it just makes it crystal clear that everyone knows exactly who is responsible for that rape. June knows who has the power, whose idea it was, and she knows the only one to stop it is not Fred. (God, I fucking hate Fred but like you said, he was totally played by Serena. I don’t let him off the hook for it but really it was her idea, 100% and he just thought “Hell yeah! Sounds good!”)

I feel like as much as Serena understood the Ceremony is pretty bad generally, I don’t think she recognised it as “real” rape until that moment. I feel like a lot of those Gilead people are just so willfully blind and selfish and horrible that they actively refuse to see things. Like Serena’s weird ass enthrall about child brides. I know some of that was to get back at June but she seemed genuinely awed by how beautiful it all was. NO BITCH IT’S NOT. IT’S CHILD ABUSE AND SEX TRAFFICKING.

I just have given up trying to understand why Serena would do such a monumentally STUPID and DANGEROUS thing if she honestly cared about the baby--which, incidentally, I do believe she truly loves Nicole and babies. As crazy as that is. Even if her love of Nicole specifically is totally a self-centeredness. But she loves babies. Babies above all else apparently, including other women. And she’s not an idiot. Baby health aside, that is a HUGE crime in Gilead to rape a pregnant Handmaid for any reason. I’m supposed to believe Serena is just so massively upset about June’s false labour that she goes mentally insane, even after being subjected to the similar treatment like a week earlier? It’s a huge, nonsensical risk on basically every single level.

I’ve come to the conclusion, considering all those things you did, it was just bad writing. Her 180 just... is bonkers. I give up. I don’t think there’s any way to logically get from 2x08/09 to 2x10 without taking some leaps. Do I think Serena would punish and abuse June for humiliating her? Absolutely. That’s her MO. She lives for that shit. But rape? It... I dunno again. Fucking weird. I don’t know if it’s on purpose or what, but I do find it interesting that after that Serena never raises a hand to June again, when she had some opportunity. She still punished her by separating her from Nicole but she never physically assaults her again. (Not that I’m saying she’s a changed person or anything. I just thought it was curious but I don’t know if it was deliberate on the show’s part or just a symptom of lack of real opportunity.)

ITA re: the marital rape too. I see no reason Fred wouldn’t escalate to that. It’s all Joseph Fiennes fault. Which is probably what pisses me off the very most. He decided that was just too much for his character? C’mon. That’s too much but what Fred does in the next ep is peachy keen? Oh, right, because in 2x10 we can blame Fred’s behaviour on his evil wife. It’s not really his fault. I see. But you can’t blame Serena for him raping her. Ugh. So, cos, Fiennes doesn’t like it, we lose way more context for Serena--who, lbr, is the more important character in this whole series out of the two of them.

EDEN. OMG BB EDEN.

I’m with you. I was actually pretty disgusted at fandom’s response to her. SHE IS A CHILD. But all these Nick/June shippers were going hogwild attacking her for getting inbetween their precious self-insert fantasy relationship. (I have a particularly low opinion of Nick/June shippers primarily because of their reactions to Eden, tbh. Before that, I was like whatever, each to their own.) This is a story about women and girls in a horrible society, and the focus seemed to be on tearing apart this female child for something she had zero control over. I never got the “Eden is evil and gonna fuck shit up for Nick (and June)!” vibe. She seemed to be a regular girl caught and raised in a misogynistic awful place and just lost. I absolutely ABHORRED the way Nick treated her the entire fucking time. (I honestly hate him so much, and most of that again is due to him since the forced marriage, both in the way he was with Eden and with June. And the number of fangirls fanwanking away all his shitty fucking behaviour and throwing Eden under the bus didn’t help my attitude.)

She’s a KID. FORCED TO MARRY A GROWN MAN. A man who it wouldn’t kill to just be straight up with her and a little bit kind. Fuck. (Serena’s grooming certainly wasn’t good either. Like, seriously lady, shut up. Stop pressuring the kid to fuck an adult man who hates her by telling her “Well maybe you can like it too!” AHHHHH.)

To me, aside from the babies/children, Eden was the most truly good character on the entire show. She was patient, kind, caring, FORGIVING, loving. Completely innocent bb girl. And then she gets fucking murdered for kissing a boy she actually likes and wants to be with. Which, was ........... wow. Gilead’s hypocrisy killing a pious young girl, presumably fertile... Yikes.

And that little girl was more brave than ANY other character. And maybe some of that is teenage thinking but still she was staring down death and refused to back down. Sure, it’s unreasonable, and an adult likely wouldn’t have made that decision... but also what was her option? Repent... and become a Handmaid? That would have been her fate since she’s an adulteress and fallen woman. And since she truly believes in goodness, and God, and Heaven (presumably), she sees it as a way for her and Isaac to be together. Meanwhile, it took a literal death sentence for Nice Guy Nick to actually recognise he could have maybe been a bit kinder to her. Then she’s asking for HIS forgiveness. AH. Eden bb.

I have a lot of feelings about Eden, and the way fandom treated her. Even when she was killed, fans were still calling her stupid and annoying for her choice--likely the ONLY real choice she has EVER had for herself. (I think that concept gets forgotten.) Like WTF sort of world do you live in that you watch a show about fascism and female oppression and turn around and bitch out the YOUNG GIRL strictly for being a young girl in a fascist society?

But hey, this is the same fandom that calls Janine annoying and crazy, and says Serena deserves to be beaten and mutilated by her husband/Gilead. Way to miss the point of the entire show. But that’s a totally other rant for another time, heh.

okay well it’s normal that I’m confused at first. I’m mostly when it comes to shows & it takes a few eps for me to really get into it. except for timeless I was in love since ep 1 😂 I’m glad you see it like this. I’m glad we still got the chance to continue talking too & you didn’t abandoned me yet because of my lack of replying 🙈 but the french players did win the double games against austria didn’t they? ohh boy thiem is currently playing against nadal, I’m watching & I’m so nervous haha but indeed it’s nice to see the next generation getting better & better.
