TUFF UPDATE 9/7/23

You know... I always talk about how I started The Closet Door, sorta like those old geezers in the 1980s movies. "Back when I first started this game in fall of 2019..."

But this is this is the first time I can talk about actually finishing it. I've been avoiding discussing it for a while. So much has happened in the last year. When I finally got to a point I could have released TCD, I won't lie- I got scared. I learned the world is a rough place. Even in the indie game development arena. Not everyone has your best interest at heart as a creative, and just about anything in life can happen, regardless of what your goals and plans are- including while making a game.

I am so very fortunate to work with others to bring Lake of Reflection - a short visual novel about life, loss and community to life. If I'd never made that much smaller game, I'd never have the courage to release TCD, which has grown so close to my heart, along with everyone that has joined me during my journey to complete it. Thank you so much everyone who helped me make this game. In so many ways, I am like Zeroi- humbled by your kindness and support more than you can ever know.

My first full length project, The Closet Door will be available to play on November 1st, 2023. I think I've discussed all the features (except for some of the backgrounds having animations) before- but if you'd like to know more about the game's features, its synopsis, as well as read the main character bios, you should check out the game page and make sure to follow for the notification when the game goes live!

But you know there's more, right?

Not only will this release have a voiced opening, but I'll be streaming the common route and first few chapters as a sneak peek this upcoming October 1st as a way to celebrate Tuffmallow.com's live launch on that day! I'll also be announcing some other goodies that I've been HARD at work on- it's been feeling so good getting to a point where I can say things are coming together! I'll be doing so in the Tuff Discord (link) because I want to chat with you guys, answer questions and have a ball! Make sure you're there to save the date for the event!

All the negativity in the world couldn't hold me back, my heart is so full right now! I can't wait to share more with you guys, but for now, thanks for everything and just yeah! This Fall is going to be amazing! <3

Update January, 2024

It was good to take a break. I'm glad I got the rest, and I'm thrilled to be getting back to work. Let's talk about what 2024 is going to look like.

The Plan in General

This year, I'm starting production on JUMP! Shonen Battle Roleplay, my most ambitious title yet (although technically, I started production last year with this prototype). My hope is that by the end of the year, I can crowdfund, develop, and release the game in full, including - hopefully - a print run. Along the way, I'll also be whittling away at some smaller titles that I can release throughout the year.

The Plan in Specific

January

Pre-Production on JUMP. I'm currently shopping for publishing programs, as well as reaching out to artists for commissions. The first playtest of the prototype is scheduled for later in the month, and I'm very excited.

February-March

Begin production proper. By the end of February, I'll have finalized who I go to for Illustrations, and by the end of March I'll have the better part of a first draft. During this time, I may also release a smaller title.

April

Begin Crowdfunding on JUMP! This is really exciting - by this point, I'll have something to show for my work, and some art to make everything look nice. I'm not sure what platform I'll use to run the campaign yet, but it's going to run from April till the end of June.

June

End the JUMP crowdfunding campaign. With any luck and lots of generosity, I'll have funded the game, and I'll be making a living on my craft for the first time. Fingers crossed.

October

By the start of the month, work will start on the final draft of JUMP. By this point, a lot of the design will be set and ready to organize and make presentable. From here on out, it's just drafting, editing, and layout. My goal is to have the final draft completely done by Halloween.

November

The tentative release date for JUMP is November 1st. This goes for digital copies - as of right now, I quite simply have no idea if I'll be able to pull of a print run, and if I do how it will work. In all likelihood, it will be a limited run, maybe a few dozen copies shipped to anyone who donated a certain amount during the crowdfunding campaign. Regardless, I'm beyond excited to get to work. I hope you all like what I have planned.

@ my anonymous asker: Your initial ask got eaten by Tumblr, so I'll be posting this as a separate post. You had two asks, so I'll address them both here, which works well, as I started ranting about the femme rep, lmao.

absolutely, like, 100% agree with you on everything you've said about the horrific lack of development with the interpersonal relationships between all the characters in jjk. the unexplained timeskip before the gojo vs sukuna fight made me SO MAD !!!!!!!! seeing it mentioned offhandedly. did such a massive disservice to gojo's character having his reactions to multiple deaths simply written out and missed so many opportunities for a more fulfilling narrative.

in general i feel that the relationships between characters in jjk are so... flimsily written. i have whole essays about how completely unexplored yuji and kenjaku are and how all the characters post-culling-game have suffered in favor of dishing out cool fights with fake-feeling emotional stakes. gege please start writing fights in a meaningful way... more than that please explore character dynamics outside of a purely tactical/background info way... is this the same man who wrote hidden inventory

my god don't even get me started on yorozu. atp the 'gege hates women' jokes can't even be dismissed that lightly I saw tsumiki's reawakening in the last jjk episode and literally said out loud don't piss me off again

Ah, thank you. I've been a bit worried about the in-universe time in JJK. If I'm not mistaken, the story starts at some point in June, and for the Juvenile Detention Center Arc/Super Happy Fun Killing Yuji Time, some point in July. Of course, Shibuya happens on the day/night of October 31st, and likely the wee hours of November 1st. The entirety of the Culling Games Arc takes place in about two weeks of November, as I recall; actually, maybe less, since the very start indicates that Yuji was on the run for a week. So many short timeskips happened early on, and had negative effects on developing characterization and worldbuilding, both of which I've thought were weak since the beginning. Worldbuilding moreso, but characterization issues were especially apparent with the second-years of Tokyo JJH and all of the Kyoto cast. This caused quite a crunch on Culling Games, since so much needed to happen over a short period of time, leading to a jumbled, molasses pace.

It's actually really interesting to me that Sukuna would agree to postpone the fight to nearly the end of December, and this would have given us more time to explore the newer characters and solidify the older ones; we really needed more interactions between Yuji and others that weren't full of misery. Or seeing Gojo adapting to life back outside the Prison Realm, especially given that so much has changed; for a character that values reforming society and raising a self-assured, powerful new generation, losing that society should lead to a re-evaluation of his priorities. Or like...develop Ieri! Hana! Miwa! And kill off Mei Mei or actually address her position within the cast.

Yeah, one of my biggest problems from the get-go was feeling that Megumi & Nobara was a dynamic that had been left to the wayside, even during early Kyoto Goodwill Arc. And those had been characters that were meant to interact regularly...literally what attachment did Higuruma have to anyone that wasn't Yuji?¹ I adore Yuji's relationships, but he's barely been allowed to have any after Shibuya. How is Choso doing, now that the only people (Yuki & Tengen) not related to him are dead or robbed of agency?

Speaking of...hoo boy, Tengen is a hell of a topic to untangle. And most femme characters really don't get to do anything. Nobara is fun, but suffered since day one with a lack of plot presence, and literally being removed from battlefields/character conflicts, lmao. Ieri straight-up doesn't matter, especially as the manga goes on--but even in Hidden Inventory, which I do think is likely the peak of JJK, she has no real impact. You could basically replace her with a medpack, and little would change. Mai gets a very good conflict with Maki, but just about nothing between then and her death. Maki has given up her niche and much of what made her engaging to become...a serial killer on the good side, suspiciously Toji-shaped. I really didn't like Perfect Preparation, and I dread re-reading it.

But "Gege hates women" was less of a joke to me, and more a hyperbolic version of a statement that I do believe in: "Gege shows a clear apathy and disregard for his femme characters." I noticed very early on in my initial read-through (to the end of 145) that many of the femme characters were simply treated differently than much of the male cast, and often given less to do. One time that I was truly disgusted, though, was how Remi (the lady with hair like a scorpion's tail, and a dependent personality) was handled, even before her ultimate fate in Culling Games. So much of that simply rubbed me the wrong way, and felt genuinely offensive, both in regards to women and to dependent personality-type individuals. And what happened to her later...man, those panels gross me the fuck out with how much they sexualize a woman who's about to get trafficked. I definitely have a lot to say on that, but I want to make sure I can actually post this before Tumblr fucks me over again.

As a note, I don't use materials outside of the story to gauge the effectiveness of the writing (and it's also because I'm a Naruto fan, so I know the Hell of databooks, nevermind some of the other art I enjoy), but I may be missing some things. Feel free to continue to make asks or to reach out to me via DMs. I do enjoy discussing JJK, whether it be for things it does well, things it does poorly, or for other reasons.

¹We did get some Higuruma & Kusakabe, but this came in late, and then Higuruma died, lmao.

19th October, 2022. Maybe 2:04am, but who gives a fuck? I just found out that the gov wanted to see how ytc in Busan goes and then make the decision, but bangtan and bighit, being the dickheaded brainies they are, enlisted themselves, to keep their self respect 🤌🏻. Note- The astronout, logo trailer just dropped. Gonna miss him🥲 Anyways, 994 days to go, We'll wait.

20th October, 2022. Just can't wait for astronaut 🤩. 993 more days, we'll wait.

28th October, 2022. Astronaut is finally out guyssss🤧😭. I just loveeee the theories, and the visuals and the vocals and everything. 986 days more, we'll wait.

29th October, 2022. Jin performed live, rm performed sexy nukim, hobi and rm attended w. 985 days more, we'll wait.

1st November, 2022. Missed 2 days, but RM3 in November 😭. They say it's gonna drop somewhere around the 25th, can't waitt!!! 982 days more, we'll wait.

4th November, 2022. Literally missing many days, but got the confusion cleared out. BTS is gonna be on Pharrell's album, and Pharrell is gonna be on Rm's album. Can't waittt! 952 days(got it messed up before 💀), we'll wait.

OKAY GUYS, I FUCKED UP. I thought they would be back by BTS day, 2025. But nahh, they're gonna be back by December 😭. So um, it's 1121 days more, but doesn't make a difference, cause I'll wait all my lifetime for them.

10th November,2022. Not able to update daily as my mental health is having a rollercoaster ride. RM1, INDIGO IS ON 2ND DECEMBER!!! 1117 days more, we'll wait.

14th November, 2022. Indigo is gonna be goddamn fabulous, I can already say it. 1113 days more, we'll wait

18th November, 2022. Indigo is round the corner, Pharrell's going on and on bout BTS, and kook performs at the fifa World Cup in 4 fucking days while we know nothing of the song😭. 1109 days more, we'll wait.

26th November, 2022. Tracklist for Indigo is out, dreamers was a huge fucking success, and jins leaving on the 18th. 1101 days more, we'll wait.

2nd December, 2022. Indigo is outt!!! Not watched yet, but can feel the success.1095 days more, well wait.

Not updated for a while, 18th dec, 2022. Jin left, Indigo is a great success, and our kookie couldn't stop himself from tearing up when Jin left. It's all feeling too real now🥲. 1079 days more, we'll wait.

23rd December, 2022. Jimins new ginger hair is distracting me from the fact that jins not here. Hope he's well. 1074 days more, we'll wait.

27th December, 2022. Hobis surprise appearance at crushs concert, jimins christmas message, and taes cover for "it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas", all together, Christmas this year was wonderful. 1070 days more, we'll wait.

31st December,2022. Last update here as I'm creating a different one for the next year. I've been here since October ig? And it's like a personal diary, and I love it. Jhope is at my for a new years show. Missing Jin so bad. 1066 days more, we'll wait.

New Beginnings [DECEMBER UPDATE]

Hey everyone! This is STAR!! A 20 year old artist online. It has been over a year (on KOFI) since my last post and i felt an update was in order. I am trying out Tumblr, and it's always scary to start on a new platform so i hope all goes well here.

Personally i have some projects i am working on. Some that might see the light of day before the year ends and others i can post come the new year.

Other than that, i am working on post every single day of this month or up until Christmas across all my social media accounts. Or at least the ones i can be consistent with such as Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok and now Tumblr (I'm gonna check out how tumblr works out for me with posting art and blogging.) [I'm not posting on all social media every single day. I pick and choose one or two platforms to post that day. I'll post art, blogs [Like this one], videos, etc. I have a content calendar for the entire month listed out, with at least 2 repost of past stuff each week to fill everything out. It's only the beginning of December but i am managing ok.

Some future projects includes continuing working on my webcomic i started "production" on over the summer, start thinking about my Happy New Year post for January 1st, work on a small series of YouuTbe videos for the month of January and revamp and reopen my sister and I's Online Store. Finger cross for the future!!!!!

[Here's the last piece i did back in October. My whole November was spent working on this children book and creating my Graphic Art Design Portfolio for school]

hey,,,this is just bugging me for a while and i need to get it out at this point. i had a REALLY toxic 'friend' who i stayed with for nearly 6 years. whenever i wanted to do my own thing and when i had my own ideas, they'd block me or threaten me. next minute, they're giving excuses to make me stay.

and i did. i had to put up with their a///se for years until they disrespected me of my gender. i finally cut off contact with them and they still tried to get in contact with me. but after march of this year, they finally left me alone.

but im still terrified of ever meeting them again, i try to remind myself that i'll never see that person again, but im way too paranoid since november's a bad month for me.

is it okay to ask for advice on how to get over this fear? and maaaybe a hug from my comfort charas above? they're a huge comfort to me,,

Well thank *CENSOR* you cut them off, that is incredibly toxic. The guilt you must have felt when they would give you excuses to stay around their toxic *CENSOR* must’ve been unbearable, cuz I know damn well that manipulators are good at that.. It’s shitty that someone thinks they can block or threaten you like it’s nothing and expect you to stick around foreva’. I’ll tell you right *CENSOR* now, this isn’t going to be somethin’ that you can get over easily. Cuz believe me, toxic people will go to any extent just to contact their victims, to try and weasel their way back into their life.

1st and foremost advice, block them everywhere you can think of and if you know their handles. Just as a caution, ya never know when these *CENSOR*wads are going to show up. If ‘ya got places like facebook, don’t accept any requests you’re not familiar with. If your instincts tell ‘ya it’s bad news, deny and delete.

Man...these toxic people really are like cockroaches, annoying little shits. Be aware of your surroundings too when you go out if you’re paranoid, make sure you don’t go out alone. Maybe it’d be better to go out with someone by your side just incase.. Alright, I’ll leave the hugging to Pooichi and the klutz of a nurse! But if you want a hug from me, I don’t mind anonymous.. I hope that *CENSOR* ex friend doesn’t come back, they don’t deserve someone amazing.

Hello Anonymous, I'm really sorry to hear that you've had to go through that... I want you to remember that you don't deserve any of that and that things will be okay; you'll heal as time goes by. Of course you can have a hug.

I understand that right now is a scary time for you, and that's okay. You have every right to be scared... Just be sure to protect yourself, make sure to make all of your social medias private and protecr your details. Change any usernames they might have known about too. Be sure to tell someone you trust, preferably an adult or friend that won't turn you away in case of any immediate danger.

My advice to you is that you take your time to heal; start looking at hobbies that you like, activites to take away your stress. Explore the things you love and you'll be able to find happiness. It might not be a straight and smooth road, but things will be alright. Everything will work out, remember that better times are ahead. You're safe now, okay?

Belak:

Most likely to not give two f*cks about you or your mama's opinion, Belak is well known for splurging out some hilarious yet solid mind-to-mouth rhymes that are just in your face.

Out of the stack of manilla folders in his creative chamber, he picks out a series of compelling tales to lay out on any beat that is presented to him.

Belak then becomes the main character & speaks in first person (the Internet Jesus even uses abidexterous flows to back it all up!).

However you look at it, Belak is a dominant force that's striking down the competition one day at a time. His advantage? The voice that's in the back of his mind.

There's nothing that stops this follied rhymester from getting the day started. If he isn't balling harder than everyone else then he works until it happens. "I can't let any lame a** h**s touch my swag." Belak says "I have to be the best. I'm a very sore loser. I hate losing."

His rapping skill was always praised by friends & family but when an important figure pulled him aside to say that he should pursue a career in music, it had a different effect on him. "I use to dance competitively & perform in my school's talent show every year. I did ballet, hip-hop, & breakdancing. I was listening to a lot of electronic music at the time as well." Belak adds in "I loved coming home to check out what was new on Trap City & Trap Nation. I just started googling stuff every chance I got. Then I ended up making mixes to dance to. I started my own label & everything just kind of grew from there but that's the mixing/engineering & production side of my music. My project is actually focused on me as a vocalist. I've been writing short stories since I was in 1st grade but at the end of my sophmore year in high school we had to write a poem as part of our english final. I asked my teacher if I could write it as a rap and she said yes. After we all finished reciting our poems, she pulled me aside at the end of class & said "Hey, that was actually really good, maybe you should do this for real." That was the first time anyone other then my loved ones had said anything good about my music, so I started taking it more seriously after that." but not everyone agreed with his plan, "My aunt raised me for a large portion of my childhood & she used to say things like "You're never going to change" or "You're a piece of crap just like your mom & dad" just all sorts of rudeness I dont even want to dive into. Long story short though, when I get to the point where I consider myself successful, I will get in touch with her & we'll see what she has to say then!"

In his music, Belak tries to give his fanbase something new to think about with every song because generally he just wants people to be happy (he even has some unreleased music that hes made for charity & music to help people through their ups & downs.) "Give me any genre or any combination of genres & I can make it. I don't limit myself to making one type of music." Belak goes on to say "I might make an anthem one day & the next day I'll be making a song where im sampling napkin noises for the beatwith lyrics about cleaning up after yourself. Feel me?"

Although he come from the foothills of Northern California known as Georgetown & there isn't a lot of people in the town, he is still able to move audiences across the globe. "Cities are so overpopulated & they always have so much happening. Where I'm from life is very simple." says Belak "I just moved to Nevada, so I don't really know anybody out here but while I was living in California I would work with King Theta, Jae Killa, George Washington & Dusty Sanders. I also just worked on some new music EGOVERT & SadBoy Prolific. We're all going to the next level.

Yet Belak isn't only giving praise to these MC's. He also pays homeage to his friends & himself. "Anytime they [his friends] do something cool, I feel like I have to one up them or I'm a little a** b**ch. I'm always trying to go 100% harder then anybody else I know."

All things considered, Belak's approach on complexual beats can either offend one or have them amped up for more.

Ultimately he is a master who brings verses & hooks to life through storytelling music.

It really works in everyone's favor - including his own.
