whose phone is that, anyway? character signature colours and yoshizawa's phone

There is a perennial debate over what's going on with Yoshizawa's phone. Isn't it Kasumi's phone that she's dragging around for reasons? What's even wrong with it, and why?

I have no opinion on the last two questions (other than that her difficulty communicating likely symbolises the things she's hiding from herself and others.) But I do think we can put that first question, of ownership, to bed.

First let's take a quick look at...

character colour coding

Most playable characters in P5 are assigned a colour, which is used more-or-less consistently for various things. For instance, their chat icons use them:

Their gloves use them. Makoto is the exception here with white gloves (perhaps because she uses fist weapons, so her gloves are always hidden?):

More to the point? Their phones are all colour coded:

Clockwise from the top: Ryuji (gold), Ann (hot pink), Yusuke (pale blue), Haru (purple), Futaba (green) and Makoto (dark blue).

royal trio: joker

The Royal Trio throw this nice little arrangement for an absolute loop.

First off, let's take a look at Joker. Silver phone (you may have observed it). No chat icon that we ever see to my knowledge, though it seems highly unlikely that he wouldn't have a red one. And indeed, his gloves are red. (as you may also have observed)

Our resident Gemini, of course, stomps in with his steel-capped kicker boots and does everything twice. He's got two pairs of gloves, which match his apparent alignment (white or black, with his "day gloves" being black):

And his phone? Well, it's red (though the anime has it as dark grey, because, again, never not extra). Because, to this day, he's still playing hero—with the emphasis by now very much on "playing"—and part of him still wants to be the hero....

So Joker and Akechi have a reverse colour scheme going on with their phones: Joker has the silver/white/colourless phone that you might expect Akechi to have, and Akechi has the red one you'd expect Joker to have. Or rather, Joker has the "bad guy" phone while Akechi has the "good guy" phone, because he's a fucking liar and because each of them, to a greater or lesser extent, is walking that line between hero and villain.

As for his chat icon, it was grey in vanilla [source], while in Royal it was changed to brown. So: two sets of gloves, two chat icons, two phones (if we count the anime). Complicated.

what about yoshizawa?

Just like Joker and Akechi, Yoshizawa is too cool to be bound by any stupid dress code... pretty much. Her outfit is essentially girl Joker, and so her gloves are red, like his. Her chat icon is a deep purply-pink—more hot pink than Ann's, in fact, whose colour hot pink is!

It's possible her icon is meant to be red, but it's been shifted to purply-pink because a red icon on a red background would look bad.

But there are a couple of other things we can look at. And they tell us it's incredibly likely that the malfunctioning phone Yoshizawa carries through the game is not Kasumi's, but her own.

Remember that Yoshizawa's codename, Violet, is taken from her true given name Sumire—which means "violet". In Maruki's Palace, there's a cinematic of her with the real Kasumi during their accident, where both girls have umbrellas. Kasumi's is yellow—but Sumire's?

It's violet. And what colour is Yoshizawa's phone, when she pulls it out on 10/3, still believing that she's Kasumi?

It's violet. Violet for her true name, violet for her codename. Violet like the umbrella she carried when Kasumi died. This is clearly Sumire's phone, not Kasumi's.

Why is it broken? Still damaged in the accident, maybe?—Sumire is knocked flying. Unconsciously sabotaged? Space pixies? Who knows.

being gojo [name], it's no surprise that you're quick to swoon people, may it be guys or girls.

one of their favorite things to do is literally gathering information and analyzing your every move. probably creepy, but not only were they keen on convincing you to join them, they really just wanted to see and adore you upclose, and when they do, may it be from a far in camera or personally, they're losing it in the inside.

apart from possessing sugawara michizane's six eyes and the limitless ability that makes you the strongest ability user alive, you're very charismatic person, and the decay of the angel is no exception to that. the instant they found and learned about you, they were stoked. they instantly became your biggest fans, despite being a terrorist organization that specializes as a murder association.

nikolai gogol !

nikolai is a die-hard fan of yours. he's head over heels in love with you, and he's a lot like miwa kasumi. he gets all giddy and excited as soon as he sees you, but unlike miwa, who is discreet, he is openly expressive.

"goodness, if it isn't an angel sent from above?" nikolai's calm demeanor crumbled when he saw you. he just can't help it.

nikolai practically pushes everyone around you aside and approaches you without hesitation or shame.

you weren't even on a mission. you were simply walking around yokohama by yourself when you were approached by a white-layered haired man dressed as a circus ringmaster. you watched as he pushed the man next to you away without hesitation before bowing with his hand to his chest and lifting his hat in respect.

"gojo [name], it's an honor to finally see you in person!" nikolai exclaimed a little too enthusiastically and theatrically.

behind your black round sunglasses, your eyes widened slightly. oh, how peculiar. he already recognizes you. perhaps a stalker? well, it's nothing to be alarmed about. you're type of person who eats death threats from higher-ups for breakfast—this was not actually a big deal, so you went along with it.

you proceeded to hold a baffled expression as you tapped your chin in a thoughtful manner, "oh, my. do i know you, kind sir?"

"hohoho, let me introduce myself! my name is nikolai gogol. i've heard everything about you dear! you're the heir of the gojo family and i'm a huge fan," he exclaimed enthusiastically, "do you mind if i quiz you, dove?"

"quiz me?" you tilted your head to the side, practically making nikolai squeal on the inside from how charming and adorable you were up close, especially when you did that—perfect, your charms were working well on him.

"mhm! it is but a simple question," nikolai hummed and chuckled softly as he nodded.

"alright then, go ahead," you smiled at him kindly as you clasped your hands together.

"a vase is what this usually adorns. be careful as it may have some thorns! but even so, it is as beautiful as a ravishing woman like you," nikolai declared with a wink.

it was a riddle.

"hmm, vase? thorns? beautiful?" you furrowed your brows and held your chin between your fingers, thinking of an answer. you snapped your fingers as you smiled at him, "ah, a rose!"

"ding ding!" chimed nikolai happily, and with that, he pulled a bouquet of roses from his overcoat and handed it to you, which made you gasp softly as he continued, "a beautiful rose, for a beautiful lady."

"well, aren't you quite the charmer?" your lips curved into a smile as you pushed your glasses down slightly, just enough for your blue six eyes to stare at him, "thank you, nikolai!"

nikolai found himself giddy at the prospect of seeing you this close up, especially those gorgeous eyes of yours, let alone hearing his name spill from your plump lips. you were truly as lovely as a rose, perhaps even more so.

however, as soon as he saw a familiar man approaching you from a distance, his eyes narrowed slightly. it appeared that it was now time for him to flee. his expression changed immediately as he extended his hand for you to take, and in return, he bent down and kissed your knuckles as he gently grasped your hand, catching you somewhat off guard.

"it is truly an honor to see you in person," nikolai exclaimed before smiling and pulling away.

"gojo-chan!" you turned around to see ranpo running towards you, holding his hat and huffing for air as he came to a halt.

"ah, ranpo-kun! what are you doing here?" you asked, blinking.

"it's urgent. i need to discuss something with you," ranpo said, his eyes widening slightly as he looked at the bouquet of roses in your hands, "eh, were you on a date or something?"

"nope. this kind man gave this bouquet of roses to m—your eyes widened as soon as you turned around and found nikolai gone without a trace.

"what man?" ranpo raised a brow at you suspiciously.

you lowered your black round sunglasses to scan your surroundings, but nikolai gogol had vanished without a trace. despite the vast perception your six eyes provides you, you couldn't see him from a mile away.

he was really gone.

you then returned your attention to the bouquet of roses he had just given you, only to discover a small card tied to one of the roses that read,

"i apologize, dove, but i have a show to run. don't worry, we will meet again, gojo [name]."

after reading, you froze and found yourself clutching the bouquet tightly.

this card appeared seemingly out of nowhere.

sigma !

sigma, unlike nikolai gogol, is the true miwa kasumi type. he fanboys for you more on the inside than on the outside due to his casino manager reputation, aside from being a part of the decay of angels.

"it that... gojo [name]?" the young man muttered himself, surprised.

sigma noticed you from afar as a customer in the sky casino—his very own casino—due to your ever-familiar black round sunglasses and signature snow-white hair. sigma's eyes widened and he found himself bobbing his adam's apple. you weren't even dressed in your usual attire. you were dressed elegantly in a sleeveless black dress with a slit exposing one of your thighs and matching black heels.

how could he possibly have missed your name? sigma was certain he had memorized his casino's customers because he was the manager. unless, of course, this is your first time here; it has to be your first time. he had never seen you here before, and based on your information, you work for heiwa in tokyo.

you, on the other hand, were sipping a soda that had been served to you because you don't drink alcohol as you casually flirted and smooth-talked this one customer, discreetly learning about this sky casino.

it may not appear so, but you were on a mission right now. heiwa, your organization in charge of tokyo, asked you to look into any leads related to the books.

sigma followed you as soon as you finished talking with the said man; he was envious of how close the said man was to you. you, on the other hand, could not help but smile.

you got the manager of the sky casino's attention exactly as you planned.

you set your drink down, handing it to one of the establishment's waiters, and smiled as you watched sigma approach you, nearly tripping on his heels. his heart was racing and his mind was pounding.

oh my god.

you just smiled at him.

"yes?" you sweetly asked, watching as sigma gathered himself, clearing his throat as he faced you. you were making him nervous.

"p-pardon me, gojo [name]-san," he cleared his throat, "as the manager of the sky casino, i would just like to check in my casino's customers. that man wasn't bothering you, was he?" sigma asked, glancing at the man you were talking to earlier.

oh, my. well isn't he a bold one?

aren't customers in this establishment coded? hmm, the fact that this man knew your name could only mean one thing—this person is well aware of who you are, whether as a member of heiwa or a descendant of sugawara michizane, or maybe as the head of the gojo family. but you maintained your cool as you acknowledged him.

"oh, so you're the manager!" you exclaimed, resting your chin between your thumb and index fingers, "no worries. he wasn't bothering me at all. thank you for the concern. goodness, i should commend you. i'm not really one for casinos and all that gambling, but this establishment sure is accommodating and well kept in order. you seem very capable, and you even check on your customers!"

sigma's eyes widened. he was caught off guard. oh my goodness. his heart was screaming. you simply complimented him.

'gojo [name] commended me. gojo thinks i'm capable,' he thought, fighting back a flush that was forming and spreading across his face.

you were making him fall in love with you so easily. good god. just how were you doing that?

"would you like to share a drink or two with me, mr. manager?" you asked, tilting your head and using your charm. you mentally smirked as you watched sigma's adam's apple bob up and down. this guy was a big fan of yours it seems.

"only if it's okay with you though! you must be a busy man," you chuckled later, "it's just that I've been meaning to talk to you."

"r-really now?" sigma blinked profusely.

"you see, i'm from tokyo, and a colleague of mine mentioned the sky casino being a worthwhile place to visit here in yokohama," you skillfully lied, your voice smooth as silk, "so places i've never been to or heard of before really interest me, so i was wondering if i could perhaps hear of this establishment's background perhaps? i'm genuinely curious."

"i don't mind at all, gojo-san," a smile graced his lips, "it would be an honor to enlighten you,"

"really? why, thank you! you really are dependable!" you clasped your hands together.

you then gave him a closed-eye smile, which caused sigma to blush furiously, causing him to cover his face and turn away from you, pretending to cough when you opened your eyes and straightened your posture.

fyodor dostoevsky !

now, fyodor is not as expressive and open compared to sigma and, especially, nikolai. in fact, he's very discreet. fyodor is similar to miwa in that he maintains his cool and calm at all costs despite his feelings for you.

it was a moonlit, dark night. you had just finished business in yokohama and were now craving some sweets due to your sweet tooth, and what better way to satisfy your cravings than to satisfy your cravings? it is possible to get some at your favorite coffee shop even if it is late at night. you cheerfully pushed the glass doors, the doorbell chiming upon contact.

fyodor was already outside the coffee shop when you walked in, having arrived only a few minutes before you. with the decay of the angel almost always watching you and your fondness for restaurants and shops selling sweets, it was quite easy to track where you frequently went.

fyodor wasn't the type to go wherever he pleased in public, but he'd been meaning to see you up close, not just through a camera or screen.

after ordering a slice of red velvet cake and a matcha crepe cake, as well as your preferred iced coffee, you took the only available seat by the window and clutched your receipt, waiting for your order. fyodor decided to order at the cashier as well, and then he decided to look around, pretending to look for a vacant seat despite already knowing you had already taken the last one.

fyodor smiled at the sight of you, sitting on the cozy chair, your heavenly blue six eyes drawn towards the full moon outside as you leaned your head against your knuckles, elbows propped on the arm of the chair, and legs crossed over one another—such grace.

"excuse me," your eyes widened slightly. the stranger's russian accent easily caught your attention.

fyodor felt a little nervous now that you were staring at him from head to toe. he couldn't help but be swooned by how intently you were staring at him, especially when you pulled down your sunglasses and stared at him with your heavenly six eyes. you were simply stunning.

"yes?" your lips curved into a friendly smile.

"do you mind if i sit with you?" fyodor asked, motioning over the other tables that were occupied to reason.

"sure, i don't mind," you replied nonchalantly with a shrug of your shoulders, looking around to see that despite the late hour, the coffee shop was packed, making fyodor extremely pleased with your response.

just then, one of the pick-up staff members called your name, along with another, as two trays were served, "orders for [name] and fedya are ready at the bar!" the man said.

"that my order; do you mind if you stay here while i go get it?" you exclaimed, standing up from your seat, but fyodor gently grabbed your shoulder, forcing you to stay.

"i'll get yours, mine's ready at the bar as well," fyodor reasoned, giving you a closed-eye smile. you tried to object, but he shook his head and insisted, "just think of it as my way of repaying your kindness in allowing me to sit with you."

you couldn't help but crease your brows as fyodor walked away to pick up your orders. that man had an odd allure, but you noticed he was quite attractive—shoulder length black hair and sharp deep purple eyes—even his clothing choices were odd, but you weren't going to judge. you straightened your back in either case as he returned to the table, smiling as he handed you your drink and sweets.

"your name's fedya, right?" you suddenly asked.

fyodor's eyes widened slightly as something within him ignited when you said his nickname—even if he may or may not have planned it when he ordered his drink.

but, goodness gracious.

it sounded so good to hear it from you.

"no, my name's fyodor, dear," oops. there was a slip, but oh, well. you don't seem to mind the small endearment anyway. hehe.

"oh," you remarked with interest, smiling with a hint of mischief, "well, thank you, fedya."

fyodor stifled a small chuckle as he sat down on the seat across you, "my name's fyodor, dear."

"well, yeah, but fedya sounds cuter," you exclaimed as you sipped your drink, "plus, if you don't want me to call you that, you should have given your real name instead."

"well, you're not wrong," fyodor smiled and waved it away as he sipped the tea he ordered.

"you're not from around here, are you?" you pointed out, as you ate a piece of your red velvet cake, "your name and accent are russian."

"yes, i'm just visiting," fyodor replied, leaning back against his seat, his hands intertwined on his lap, "yokohama's an interesting city."

"i guess i agree with you on that," you shrugged, nodding in agreement.

as you two ate and drank, fyodor continued to converse with you. to be honest, there was nothing hidden behind fyodor purposefully bumping into you. he just wanted to see you up close and talk to you, and he couldn't help but be amused by how you're talking and hanging out with him—you knew what he was up to.

even if you were being playful and casual, fyodor could see and sense your passive-aggression, especially when he started talking about ability users and how sinful man is.

you may appear to be a charming and chatty young lady, but you were gojo [name].

he knows about you. how could he not? not when the decay of the angel had been eyeing for some time now. apart from possessing a dangerously strong ability and the six eyes altogether, fyodor even knows how you came from a wealthy family—a clan that you head—and he knows exactly how to push your buttons.

"all that self-righteous talk you're getting there, tch, not really a fan of it," you scoffed as you stirred your drink, your eyes narrowing slightly.

"but when you look at me like that with those eyes of yours, my love," fyodor murmured quietly as he sipped his tea, "i sure am a fan."

"uh, what did you say?" you wondered, tilting your head, "i didn't quite catch that."

"nothing, dear," fyodor said with a closed-eye smile and a wave of his hand to dismiss it.

I'd love to see a time travel/ng+ fic where all the phantom thieves plus the royal/strikers thieves PLUS all the confidants travel back to when the game starts. Everyone's utterly bewildered.

The core phantoms and kasumi, being already physically close, figure it out pretty quick and regroup, but the rest are left confused and floundering until joker gets there and starts reaching out. But with so many people and everyone so lost and upset, he starts delegating and introducing people to each other so they have more options to reach out in case of emergency and to solidify his own web of connections, and for the better efficiency collaboration brings.

And yes I want to see all the confidants become friends or at least co-conspirators in a grand scheme sharing knowing smiles. I want to see normal people struggling with the reality of having lost a year or two of their lives, the surge of hope or fear as they realise they get to do it all again, feeling confused and alone and with the other confidants and plenty of soul searching build up an eclectic support network with others who share the same goal. As a group they could be so much more, and so many would benefit from joker putting them in touch with each other.

But I mostly want to see people coming to the dawning realisation that the scope of joker's reach he's built up is absolutely insane.

Just about every single named character in this huge game is a tarot confidant. Outside of palace rulers, the (hilariously but sadly rare) acquaintances of friends, and occasional mission target, EVERYONE is a secret member of joker's web. He's got the wildest, 'how did you guys even meet' people in his pocket too.

He's got a sentient AI. He's got a politician. He's got a yakuza guy who sells fake weapons who once took out 50 gang members. He's got a secretly talking cat. He's got a high class lawyer. He's got an underground doctor with like 5 PhDs she got revoked who does human experimentation. He's got a government agent. He's got a fortune teller. He's got a guy running his website and managing public missions for no pay. He's got an up and coming teen model. He's got the second detective prince. He's got a world famous wanted hacker. He's got a ten year old. He's got the REACH baby.

It's so funny. He's got like literally 30 odd people with maxed bonds who all think they're one of very very few who know the secret of the phantom thieves and who would break literal laws for this kid. I just think if they all worked together they'd rule the world. And they'd have a huge support group.

Fortune teller: yeah so then I managed to escape the cult, but it's just been so hard to discover who I am outside of that, you know? And they still want me back, it terrifies me.

Reporter lady: *drunk* girl that's absolutely awful you deserve like sooooo much better listen if I see them sniffing around I'll let you know. You shouldn't have to deal with those guys alone, I know allllllllll about making those kinds of guys sweat.

/Ex yakuza fake gun seller: you remind me of my son. He's a good kid, you'd like him. I can set you up?

10yo gun arcade player: oooh do these have real mechanisms? They look so realistic!

Ex yakuza: joker said you could both do with someone your own age - PUT THAT DOWN-

/Shoji player and art kid (yusuke) from the same school: *sitting in silence doing their own thing during school break, having a fantastic time*

/Akechi: *having a breakdown*

Sae, having hustled him off to an empty room for privacy: you know I can't believe I ever bought your nice act. Anyway do you think I could make a case for getting custody of you?

Akechi, stunned out of his attack: ????? Your sister would murder me.

Sae: yeah but it'd annoy shido and my boss so bad.

Akechi:.... I'll consider it.

/sojiro: I admit it's nice to have an adult to talk to about this... Sometimes I still can't believe it's the kids I know that go out and change the world like this.

Government agent: YEAH even with my own persona it's an absolute Ride. You should be proud. Also your coffee is delicious.

/Government agents daughter and mishima: *having an absolute BLAST designing merch*

The list goes ON its just so many under utilised possible relationships!!! Post games the meta verse is gone and most problems are solved (or dead) but if we put them all together in joker's biggest melting pot it'd be such a ride. All of them just low key scared of how many high ranking connections he has.

Like he just texts someone 'hi I think I know someone you'd like to know. I'm sending them to meet you.' and you're like okay??? I guess we'll see why?? And you round the corner and there's a politician and a previously famous missing teen detective waiting for you and they're here to help you get a restraining order on your stalker if you help predict a lottery number or two. And it just keeps happening. Sometimes you're the 'I know a guy' sent to meet people. Like how does joker even know this many people???? He's just moved here!!

And it really hesitant overall to accept that it’s true

(probably due to her relationship with her family and how tense things got after her dad died,,,, also all the student council stuff LOL)

But once you help her get over her fears, except to hear it every once and a while from her too!

Really, she’ll probably like freeze up for a good while when processing what you said

And once the cogs finally get to spinning in her brain she’ll probably freak the fuck out lol

You might even get pre-socialization Futaba back tbh

She’ll be blushing really hard, waving her hands a lot, and probably shouting

And it’ll definitely take a lot to calm her down enough to get her to talk to a normal volume

And by she’ll probably ask you if you really meant it

And naturally you’d say yes because you do

But even though she accepted that “I love you” it’ll take her a little bit to say it back

But just have some patience! It’ll all be worth it in the end :]

Sumire/Kasumi Yoshizawa (but really Sumire)

She would be pleasantly surprised!

Would definitely would get a little flustered

Especially since it came out of almost nowhere one day

And was said so passionately

But probably the most ready to say “I love you too” back

Like almost instantly- and accompanied by a big hug too

And from then onwards, might be the one who says it first all the time

Probably uses it a bit more casually compared to other people

But will also have a lot of moments when she says it and she really really means it

Just overall, a bit more prepared to receive this type of affection despite everything she’s been through

Izumi: I wonder what kind of business Kasumi-san called us in for.

Sakyo: Well, it’s probably some kind of magazine project, right?

Izumi: (Kasumi-san told us we’d get more details about it when we meet…)

Kasumi: Sorry to keep the two of you waiting. Thanks for coming all the way out here.

Izumi: Hello.

Sakyo: Thanks for having us.

Kasumi: Let’s get started right away. Have you two heard of this magazine?

Izumi: This is… “BE.MINE”. Of course I’ve heard of it, it’s a really famous and popular fashion magazine!

Sakyo: So famous that even I recognize it.

Kasumi: That’s great!

Kasumi: So, here’s the deal, “BE.MINE” has asked MANKAI Company to do a feature in the upcoming issue.

Izumi: Huh? Really!?

Kasumi: I’ve been friends with the editor-in-chief of “BE.MINE” for quite some time now.

Kasumi: And apparently, they had read a feature article in “Spotlight” about MANKAI Company.

Kasumi: Since then, they’ve been wanting you guys to do a feature in “BE.MINE” someday.

Sakyo: That’s great to hear.

Kasumi: The theme of the feature is pretty straightforward! It’s “Boyfriend Material”!

Izumi: Boyfriend material…?

Sakyo: …The hell is that?

Kasumi: I could see Sakyo-kun not knowing, but do you not know what it is either, Director?

Izumi: U-Umm… I might’ve heard of it before… or maybe not.

Kasumi: Simply put, it’s doing a photoshoot of boyfriend-like situations!

Izumi: Oh, I get it! Like the word “boyfriend” in English…!

Kasumi: You’ve done photoshoots for lots of magazines, like “Spotlight” and “VELUDO”, but…

Kasumi: You’ve never done a theme like this before, right?

Sakyo: That’s true, we’ve never done anything like this before…

Izumi: This feels like something that’s only possible in a magazine aimed at women!

Kasumi: Guess that means it’d be a new challenge for you then.

An episode dedicated to Kasumi's feelings about his role and his past as a leader.

“Toshi-san, there’s this interesting rumor I’ve heard from an older lady.”

It’s hard to get the intonation right… The emphasis should be here…

“Kondo-san, I’ll stand guard here! I won’t let anyone escape!”

Kaede

Papa, are you playing as a woman?

Tsubaki

Or are you playing a guy?

Sakura

Which is it~?

Kasumi

Uh… Actually…

Kasumi

…Y-Yukio-san, this… is a mistake, right…?

Yukio

It’s not.

Kasumi

Eeh!? B-but I can’t believe I’m the only double cast…

Yukio

As for you, I wanted to see you play as both Kimigiku and Todo Heisuke.

You played Lady Shizuka in “Traces of a Dream” already, and just playing the beautiful Kimigiku is boring, isn’t it?

And I also want as many people as possible for the Ikedaya incident scene.

Kasumi

No, no, no, no way! I wouldn’t care much if it’s just a female only role, but I’ve been blank for too long and yet you already want me in the Ikedaya fight…!

It’s like a neighborhood kid getting caught in a gang leader fight!

Yukio

It’ll be fine. Yuzo said he’ll teach you.

Yuzo

…Yeah. Leave it to me. I’ll put you through the Shinsengumi hazing process.

Kasumi

(In the other play I acted as Lady Shizuka after a long while of not playing female characters, and I got a lot of compliments from a lot of people. I'm looking forward to playing Kimigiku.)

(The only problem is Todo Heisuke… Hopefully… I’ll get the hang of it after some practice.)

(Now that I think about it, I remember the first time I was on stage there were three sword fights, it was a mess…)

“...Haah, haah, my bad…”

I’d be on my knees at first, it was hard to get up.

My body ached everywhere and my body felt heavy like steel.

It was as if the gravity only changed around me and pulled me down.

“...If the leader’s gonna be like this, there’s nothing to discuss, shouldn’t we just replace this guy?”

Syu-san’s bluntness and arrogance was nothing out of the ordinary, but it struck my heart this time.

I was pathetic and remorseful, I couldn’t even get myself to face them.

It was the first time I was assigned a role where I had to fight.

No matter how much I practiced, no matter how slow I took my time, I couldn’t reenact the movements properly at all.

I looked like I was doing a Lantern festival dance instead of having the form of a swordsman.

It’s no wonder that Syu-san, who taught it, was dismayed.

“Alright well, let’s leave the fight scene at that for today before you get hurt.”

I heard Yukio-san’s gentle voice interrupt and just bowed my head, devastated by my own shortcomings.

“...”

Yuzo looked at me like he wanted to tell me something, but with the state of my mind, I couldn't take another word, I left the rehearsal room as if to escape.

“...Today’s the day I’ll get it right.”

The next morning, I was determined and went to the rehearsal room early.

“Well, aren't you early?” “Eh, Yuzo? Why are you…”

Immediately after that, he threw a wooden sword at me and Yuzo told me to prepare myself.

“Get in form.”

Subconsciously, I handled the wooden sword as Syu-san had taught me.

“Try to move the same way as I do.”

“But, Yuzo, your role…”

“I already got your movements memorized in my head. Try to keep up the pace.”

“—T-thanks.”

Repeating it over and over and adjusting the speed, eventually I got it right for the first time.

“Yes! Finally!”

I was able to keep up with the other members at the same pace.

The joy of being able to do something I couldn’t before welled up deep inside me.

“This is just the beginning. Go show Syu-san, that this role is yours alone.”

“...Yeah!”

Yuzo usually only smacktalks me, but he helps me out so casually like this when I’m going through something difficult.

He really is a reliable childhood friend.

As a way to show my gratitude for being helped like this,

I definitely made that role mine, and mine alone.

I made up my mind and got back into the flow of things.

Kasumi

(Back then, I felt like I had to do my absolute best as the leader of the Spring Troupe.)

(...I wonder if Sakuya-kun also had a tough time with fight scenes.)

Rather, the upcoming play, Sakuya-kun might come to see it…!?

(He adores me as the first Spring Troupe leader, I can’t just show Sakuya-kun an unseemly sword fight.)

Sigh…

(I got no choice, I’ll just have to suck it up and ask Yuzo for help.)

(In the story, Kimigiku supports the Shinsengumi from the shadows, meanwhile Todo Heisuke leaves the Shinsengumi later.)

(It overlaps with my desire to support MANKAI Company in the shadows in different ways despite my departure from the theater.)

…You really are amazing, Yukio-san.

(Honestly, you’re like a wizard.)

A few years ago, I played through the Dragon Age games. Now I'm playing through Mass Effect, and I find it kind of hilarious that in both DA2 and ME2 Bioware was like, "Okay, these games are pretty combat heavy, so we've got to figure out who the protagonists are going to be fighting the whole game." And in both games, they were like, "How about various gangs, each with a gimmick, whose members will ceaselessly throw themselves into the deadly path of the protagonist?"

I've written about this before for DA2, but it's just as funny in ME2.

You've gotta imagine the conversations happening in the mercenary gang headquarters throughout the events of this game. The leaders have gotta be like, "Okay, why are our members dropping like flies all of the sudden?" And then they get a little intel and they're like, "Oh."

So they gather their crews around and they're like, "So guys, we just want to let you know to keep an eye out on any jobs coming up because we've been taking some hits."

And the crew members are like, "Okay, who are we looking out for?"

And the leaders go, "Well, first of all, Commander Shepard. You know that human who saved the Citadel from the Geth and that rogue Spectre a couple of years ago?"

And one of the dudes is like, "I heard it was actually a Reaper she defeated."

And the rest of the crew laugh at that crazy conspiracy theory and are like, "One human? Big deal."

And the leaders are like, "Well...not exactly. She tends to run with a crew."

And then the leaders have to tell them about Shepard's crew, consisting of:

Some human lady who always wears a hood (Kasumi is actually good at her job, so I assume they wouldn't have reliable intel on her)

A Quarian tech expert

A former Alliance marine who survived Eden Prime and the attack of the Citadel

A lady who's pretty much a clone designed to be physically and mentally perfect

A Salarian who helped redesign the genophage and was also a member of the Special Forces

The galaxy's top bounty hunter and also co-founder of the Blue Suns

Some Drell dude who may or may not be the most successful assassin in the galaxy

A biotic prodigy who has broken out of more than one high security containment facility

Weirdly, another clone designed to be physically and mentally perfect, but this time they're a Krogan

An Asari Justicar (or her even more murderous progeny)

A Geth who can talk, apparently

And a Turian who looks like, sounds like, and shoots exactly like that guy Archangel, who took out large swaths of merc crews almost singlehandedly before mysteriously disappearing (or dying?) on Omega

And at first the crew isn't that impressed. They're like, "Sounds like a bunch of weaklings to me." And then somewhere around Zaeed they start to be like, "Okay, we'll keep a lookout." And then somewhere around like Samara they start to be like, "Well, shit." And then they get to Garrus and they're like, "Please don't let it be that asshole again."

And the merc Commanders are like, "Good luck to you guys. Make sure to wear a helmet or you might be getting your head crushed through some mixture of pure biotic force, a Krogan bodyslam, and/or a headshot from the guy who's definitely not Archangel!"

And then after the guys leave the Commander thinks to himself, "I'm glad I made it up through the ranks before all this bullshit."

A/N: Since you just put reader, I will assume that the reader is not dating them and is somewhat of a stranger.

Surprised, and blushes slightly.

"Is...there something I can...help you with?" Rindou hesitantly whispers, moving his eyes away from you.

Honestly, he is very uncomfortable with you being in such close proximity to him and trying to dominate him.

Rindou will request that you let him go. If you do, he will walk away quietly. However, if you don't let him go, Rindou may use a little force to move away from you. Then, he will kindly tell you not to ever do that again.

NOT amused.

If you are a woman, he will keep his hands to himself and verbally ask you to move away from him. If you don't give in, he will move your arm away and step out, then glare at you.

If you are a man, he will push you away and try his best not to punch you.

Maica is not okay with you coming so close to him and trying to assert dominance, especially since he doesn't even know you. Even if you did it as a joke, he is not pleased.

Blank.

Menou has no reaction and stares at you blankly. He is too sleepy to even care that you are trying to assert dominance.

He actually decides to take advantage of your pose and rests his head on your shoulder. Now, your shoulder is his pillow. If you are strong enough, you might be able to move him away, or you could just stand there and let him sleep.

But if you are smaller than him, he might just fall on top of you. Good luck getting him to wake up and move.

Blushes profusely.

Sinju doesn't understand if you are joking with him or trying to dominate him. But he is polite about it and asks you if you could please let him go.

If you agree, Sinju is thankful and asks why you suddenly kabedon him. If you don't let him leave, he will stand there in discomfort, hoping that someone will come and help him.

If you make him uncomfortable enough, Sinju will run away whenever you try to talk to him or get close to him in the future.

Opens his eyes and smirks.

Are you trying to play a game with him? Nekome will be more than happy to oblige.

In the beginning, he will make it seem like you are successfully dominating him. But you will soon realize that he is letting you dominate him.

In a blink of an eye, he grabs your shoulders, spins you around, and kabedons you. He brings his face close to yours and asks in a chilling voice, "I am quite enjoying this game. Do you wish to continue?"

Unhappy.

Mokuren glares at you. If you are a woman, they simply command you to move. They do not know why are you attempting to dominate them, but Mokuren will have none of it.

If you a man, they will push you away then attempt to gracefully kick you. Will Mokuren actually kick you? No, they just want to threaten you a bit.

"Don't do that again," they said in a cold voice before marching away.

Startled.

Initially, Qu looks down at you, surprised. It isn't often a person shorter than him tries to dominate him. He thinks it is a bit adorable, especially if you barely come up to his chest.

However, Qu is not keen on you attempting to breach his private space. So, he kindly asks you to move. If you comply, great, he will simply walk away. If you don't, you will see a meaner side of Qu, which he keeps reserved for a certain few.

Amused.

Kasumi chuckles, but at the angle you are standing, you manage to get a peak of his eyes. When Kasumi notices you are distracted by his gaze, he decides to play a little game with you and gives you a somewhat seductive look.

The moment he catches you off guard, Kasumi turns into a ninja and moves so swiftly that you don't realize when your back is against the wall.

Before he leaves, Kasumi smirks and winks.

Uncomfortable.

Hari is not happy with your attempts to get so close to him, especially with your chests nearly touching. It makes him very uncomfortable.

Being a gentleman, he requests that you move away and let him leave. If you do, Hari will give a slight bow and say thank you. If you don't, he will take one of your wrists and push it off the wall so he can sidestep you.

Hari kindly reminds you not to do that to people you don't have a deep connection with you. At some point, you may actually get into serious trouble, especially if you attempt this on some of the dangerous Starless members.

Ara...?

Zakuro doesn't know whether he should applaud your bravery, be amused by your advances, or teach you a lesson for trying to dominate him.

A somewhat chilly but alluring smile tugs on his lips. He hooks a finger under your chin and brings his lips closer to yours. However, he has no intention of kissing you.

"Are you trying to tempt me...or do you simply wish to make me angry?"

Deathly calm.

Aogiri looks at you with a simple smile as if waiting for you to explain yourself to him. But if you don't, he will grab your wrist and twist you around, so he will be holding your wrist behind your back.

Bringing his lips closer to your ear, Aogiri whispers in a chilling voice, "Kindly respect my personal space."

Mass Effect mod list

Ok I said I'd make a list of the Mods I have installed for Mass Effect. Sorry it took me a while.

All my mods are just tweaks and adjustments, nothing that actually changes vanilla in any meaningful way or alters what the core experience is like.

This list is spoiler free

First off, some pointers;

You will need the Mass Effect Mod manager. It works the same as the Mod Manager used for Skyrim, but this one is specific to Mass Effect. You can find it here

For textures, the Mods and Tweaks manager has automatically included the program needed to mod textures for the game. I don't need to teach you how to use these programs as they have built-in tutorials and on screen instructions that walk you through everything.

I learned this the hard way. Only change textures AFTER you have added all the mods you want (that are not texture based). If you change the textures and then want to add more mods, the mod manager will stop you because this confuses how it applies the mods + textures. So make sure to do ALL your mods before you add texture changes.

Whatever else mods you add, make sure to add the LE1 Community Patch, the Unofficial LE2 patch, and the LE3 Community Patch. These are general patches that fixes bugs. That's it. They just fix bugs. But they are essential.

Ok! With all of that out of the way, here you go! No "read more" thing, we die like men.

1: Default Femshep Retexture.

This was actually one of the main reasons I wanted to mod my game. This mod's texture doesn't change Jane Shepard's iconic design, it just uh... makes it better. Mostly because a bunch of game dev dudes are not the best to understanding things like.... make up.

This texture makes Shepard look less like a straight guy's idea of a drag queen and more like an actual person who knows what they're doing would. It also gives her freckles better placement and makes her eyebrows.... less like that.

I love this mod to death. I nearly cried when I saw how good she looks in-game

2: Iconic Femshep Hair Fix For LE3

For reasons unknown, Bioware did not give Jane Shepard her iconic hairstyle in the third game. (Probably for the same reason nobody has the right blood colour in the third game either) This makes sure she has the right hair style in the finale.

3: LE1, LE2 and LE3 Garrus and Turians - Face and Eyes Textures

I'm only linking the first game's but make sure to get the same for the 2nd and 3rd game.

For whatever reason, the Turians often get shafted in the texture department. There is also a bug which has apparently been fixed in the Legendary Edition where Garrus' texture will load in super low res.

This just fixes some resolution issues, fixes their eyes, and just improves the over-all skin texture. Again, this made Garrus and the other Turians look so good I almost cried.

4: Immersive Emails

When the third game launched, there was an app you could get for your phone (irl I mean) where the characters would message you depending on decisions you make in the game itself. Including getting messages from whoever you decide to romance. Sadly the app was never available in my country, but the screenshots were circulated a lot.

Anyway, with the app now defunct, this mod adds ALL the messages into the game itself to appear in your in-game emails instead.

Highly recommend not only for the romance ones, but because in one of the best DLCs in the final game, you get to hear everyone essentially yelling at each other in the Normandy Discord chat, and I imagine that's basically what these messages kinda are.

5: Some mods that restore things that were accidentally removed in the Legendary Edition

Admiral Daro'Xen Restored Kirrahe Makes Good Missing Codex Restored (ME2LE) BUGFIX Genesis Intro Dialogue Undo Mod - Legendary Edition

6: Kasumi Dress ported to Citadel DLC

You get a cocktail dress in the 2nd game as part of a mission which has also become rather iconic.

This ports it over to the third game for a specific mission which required formal wear.

This mod isn't essential at all, I just like the 2nd game's dress a lot

7: Casual Underwear for Femshep

For reasons I'm sure will forever remain a mystery to us 🙄 Shepard's default underwear in the game is like.... lacey and frilly and shit?

That's fine if you like that sort of thing but it really clashes with her personality as well as like... it doesn't make a lot of sense? And in the modder's own words: "I discovered the butt window on femshep's underwear today which sent me into a spiraling modding frenzy (that and fuzzy memories of how awkward the ME3 cutscenes-)"

Anyway this mod replaces the horny game devs' underwear with something that's more in character for her.

(also low key Athletic underwear is a lot sexier imo)

8: Casual Hubs for LE1

The Team Mates wear their casual outfits while on the Normandy or on a non-threatening world like the Citadel. I like this one because I always felt it must be uncomfortable for them, especially when Shepard is allowed to wear her casual outfits on the ship.

There is also this mod for LE2

The casual outfits for some squadmates in the 2nd game are optional, such as Jack wearing a prison uniform on the ship which I personally would not put her in because she's too chaotic to keep that sort of thing on.

The woman was gonna be walking around topless for the 2nd game until EA told Bioware "no" ffs.

9: Cerberus Ladies Wear Cerberus

Bioware never patched the 2nd game so that the Cerberus women actually wear Cerberus uniforms. This fixes that.

10: LE3 Opening Remaster

in the modder's words:

"LE3 Opening Remaster aims to improve the opening cinematic of Mass Effect 3, using remastered footage from an early ME3 Xbox 360 demo, as well as diversifies the opening text scroll if the Arrival DLC was completed."

11: Apartment Additions

In the 2nd game you could invite Shepard's SO to her cabin to hang out. Someone made a similar mod for the 3rd game 👀

12: LE3 Prologue Outfit Customization

The third game's prologue is weird if you have a specific casual outfit you like to put Shepard in (it's the hoodie... we all know it's the hoodie) and she doesn't wear it.

This mod let's you decide which outfit she should be wearing in the opening to better match how you've been dressing her in the 2nd game.

13: Garrus with No Visor and New Outfits (LE2)

Gives Garrus some more outfits he can wear rather than just his green one and optionally removes his visor when he's wearing his casuals (or always if you just dislike the visor).

The visor is lore important so I keep it on him most of the time... but I have it removed for when he's wearing his casuals because it's just kind of awkward for him to have it when he and Shepard start sleeping together.

Also he just looks better in blue than green ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Mods I couldn't install because I had already installed textures :(

LE1 and LE3 Diversification mods.

"A project designed to diversify LE1 through increased population count, better species' population balancing, outfit/appearance diversification and overall breathing more life into the world."

This includes adding female turian NPCs to the first game (they were only given a model in the 3rd game because something something video games) As well as giving the Elcor their walking animation.

The Diversification project is busy being worked on for the 2nd game as well but for now is only applicable to Omega.

I'm only linking to the first game's mod but you can find the third game's from the same creator.

Please note; Diversification mod and Variety are mod are TWO DIFFERENT MODS and may cause clashes if you install both.

I want this mod so bad..... I might risk breaking my game just to add it I swear sldjfsdklfjksd

And that's everything I use!

Before anyone asks, I don't have the "ALOT of textures" mod installed despite it being really good for no other reason than it replaces the signs into english text and that just bothers me for some reason. Especially since the most common spoken language by all species is "Trade". So having signs in english just doesn't make sense to me.

Shepard is an Alliance marine. She would know how to read Trade.

There is also a mod to improve lighting to an insane degree but I haven't messed with it because it requires a seperate program to introduce modern lighting engines to older games and I am too intimidated by it to try it.

"Morning Y/n!" A voice called out. You turned around and saw the short black haired girl running behind you

"Good morning Yosano!"

"We've got 1st period english today, right??" You watched Yosano pulled out her English notebook and slammed it onto your desk, "Lemme copy your homework PLEASEEEEE" Yosano begged.

Seeing the sight of Yosano practically on her knees begging for the homework made you feel bad for her. "You forgot to translate it at home again?!" You exclaimed, wanting to giggle at her mistake, you shook your head in disbelief. You then pulled out your notebook and handed it to Yosano.

"I swear, what would you do without me.." You sighed as Yosano snatched your notebook out of your hands and began writing down the translations from last night's homework.

"Thanks alot! I owe you one," Yosano sighed in relief as she fastened the pace of her writing.

"Oh! By the way, a friend from another school asked me for your phone number, what should I do? Do you want me to give it to him?" Yosano added as she stopped to look at your expression.

"Hmm, he didn't ask himself so no, turn him down for me okay?" You answered as you began to fidget with your pencil.

"Nakajima-san" A voice interrupted, you watched the black haired boy pick up an eraser from the floor. It was your eraser. "You dropped your eraser," The boy continued as he held out your eraser, you grabbed your eraser from him and thanked him.

"Akutagawa-Kun sure is gloomy, not that he's new or anything he just seems like he'd be a total otaku.." Yosano whispered.

"Like, as in a 'Moeeee~' type of guy?" You questioned. The thought of Akutagawa with an nendoroid of an thicc anime character never really crossed your mind, you never really pictured him to be that type of guy.

"Yeah yeah! Exactly like that! Don't you think so too Y/n?" Kasumi asked. "Not really,," You grumbled.

"Well anyways, I'm going to karaoke with Tachihara and everyone else, you wanna come?" Yosano asked as she finished copying your homework.

"Sorry I'll pass,"

"Come on! You alwaysssss say that!" Yosano complained practically begging you to go with her.

I think that's pretty much how things are- well.. that goes for me too.

You were at home cleaning and getting the house ready and got distracted with all the house chores that you never really noticed that it was time to pick your little brother up from daycare.

"Shoot! It's almost time for me to go pick Atsushi up!" You exclaimed. You grabbed your purse off the counter and headed out.

Since I was a kid, my parents' jobs have kept them both busy. It's my duty to take care of my little brother. So I don't have time to hangout with friends on the way back from school..

It's really no big of a deal, once you're used to it- But still, this is a side of me I don't want my friends to see.

"How about we eat some hamburger steak today?" You smiled at Atsuhsi before he cheered out a "Yay!"

You were getting laundry done at home and Atsushi got home from playing outside.

"Onee-Chan!" Atsushi cried out.

"Welcome back, Atsu..." You paused, you took a peek at Atsushi and his nose was bleeding. "shi-" You trailed off. A wave of emotion hit you when you realized Atsushi was hurt.

"ATSUSHI!!!! WHAT DID YOU DO?!!!!" You yelled at him, you dropped the basket of clothes and ran to him pulling out your handkerchief then began to clean the blood off his face. "What even happened?!"

"I fell" He tried to explain.

"It looks like he's okay, so I'll be going" A random voice said.

OH SHIT, I COMPLETELY JUST IGNORED HIM!

"U-uhm! It looks like we've caused you some trouble so-" You paused. "Not at all, I'll just show myself out," He interrupted.

Atsushi grabbed the teenaged boys' hand,.

"Atsushi?"

"Onii-chan, please stay..." Atsushi cried.

"Huh...? Well but-" The stranger paused- "No! Er- Well, please come in!" You interrupted. "I'd like to thank you anyways, please stay"

You gave the stranger a cup of tea, "Sorry for the trouble," The stranger apologized. "No, no thank you!"

"Oh! As for earlier, A dog startled him and he fell down.. I happened to be there when that happened, so I tried to help him out.." The stranger explained. You examined the guys face and you realized that he has a ton of piercings.

"Ohhhh, that explains the nosebleed- Thanks for helping him out! You really didn't have to do that though.." You nervously laughed.

"Atsushi-kun, he's a sharp kid. He was able to tell me his name and address."

"Oh! No, not really.. He's so clumsy so I don't know what to do with him sometimes," You giggled.

"But still! It's amazing that you run the house yourself, Nakajima-san. I was honestly a bit surprised.."

Huh!?!?!?

You slammed your hands on the table, surprised that that the guy sitting in front of you knew your last name. "Huh?! You are Nakajima-san, right? From Class 3??" The stranger asked.

"WHAT?!" You exclaimed.

"I-'m Nakajima but-.. WHAT!? Huh...?? Do you go to my school??" You asked the guy desperate for an answer.

"Huh? What are you talking about?" The stranger asked. "It's me Akutagawa- We're in the same class?" He asked all confused.

"HUH?! So you're saying that you're Akutagawan-Kun?! The one with his hair down, glasses??"

The next day at school, you were completely shocked. HUUUUHHHHHHHH??!??!?! you thought. On your face was a completely shocked and horrified expression.

"Y/n, what's up with that crazy face? Are you okay?" You heard Yosano ask.

"IT'S NOTHING!" You nervously laughed. "Are you sure? You had that same expression this morning, I'm kinda getting worried.." You were staring at Akutagawa from your seat, but the others thought that you were looking out the window since there was no possible way you would be looking at Akutagawa.

Was that really the same person?! I still can't believe it, but even more than that, more than anything... HE SAW ME WITHOUT MAKEUP ON????

"Y/n, you sure you're okay?"

You took another look at Akutagwa and finally decided to talk to him. You got up out of your desk and and walked up to him. "Akutagwa— do you have a minute?"

"huh? can i really come over and hang out again?" Akutagawa asked.

"N-NOT WITH ME!! ATSUSHI! HE KEEPS SAYING HE WANTS TO PLAY WITH 'ONII-CHAN' AGAIN!" You answered turning around to look at Akutagawa.

"Oh. Well, in that case, I'll buy him a picture book or something."

"No need! Don't go out of your way to spoil that little brat!" You said as you sighed looking out the window. "Thank goodness, Atsushi will be happy to see you!"

"That was a surprise" Akutagawa laughed, he then leaned against the wall standing next to you.

"What is?"

"You coming to talk to me- After yesterday, I just assumed... I guess I was sure you'd totally avoid me," Akutagawa said followed by a nervous laugh.

"I mean, yeah, I'm feeling a little awkward, and yes, I was freaked out that you were nothing like you are at school- but that makes two of us- so in the end it's no reason for me to avoid yo-" You paused as you turned to look at him.

You noticed to see that Akutagawa was blushing through his turtle neck scarf. "Why are you blushing?!"

"I'm not really- used to hearing that sort of thing--- It just feels weird to hear someone say that to me," He said as his eyes diverted to the ground.

"But thanks!" He said as he flashed a smile to you.

Akutagawa has a pretty smile.. You felt your heart skip a beat and your ears turn red. "You should wear your hair up like yesterday more often.. And maybe lose the glasses as well?"

"Yeah.." He mumbled. "But.. My piercings would show-" He laughed.

"How many do you have anyways?" You asked him. "I have- maybe nine?"

"That's too many if you ask me."

"Thats what my mom said.."

Episode 3: Reassuring Companions

Syu: You’re being quite thorough, making us come to a restaurant during afterhours. We could’ve just met in your office you know?

Reni: The office has been busy lately with discussions about plays and other things. Troupe members and writers often come in as well, so it’s not secure.

Syu: That’s pretty impressive.

Reni: Anyway, let’s organize all the information we’ve gathered.

Zen: Before that, you should fill your stomachs first.

Syu: Isn’t it past the orders cut-off time?

Zen: Today’s an exception.

….

Syu: Phew… Thanks for the food.

Reni: Sorry to make you do this so late.

Zen: I’ll just add it to the service charge.

Yuzo: Yo

Kasumi: Good work today.

Hiro: The heck? Only they get to eat?

Reni: Why are you all…

Syu: I called them.

Reni: What?

Kasumi: I was recording my show earlier today and Hiro came on as a guest.

Hiro: And as if the timing couldn’t be more perfect, I got a call from Yuzo.

Yuzo: Since you guys were going out to drink anyway, I thought I’d join in.

Syu: And I guess that’s when I had called. Anyway, it’s good that we all gathered here so quickly.

Yuzo: You guys were already here. Are we just extras or somethin’?

Reni: It’s a bit of an important discussion. I was going to tell you all when I got everything together.

Syu: Might as well talk about it to all of us at once, that way it’s less complicated, right?

Reni: Haa… I guess there’s no way around it.

Hiro: Is this important conversation about bringing Yukio back to Japan?

Reni: Yes. Given the nature of the other party, I had no choice but to move with caution.

Reni: During the second act-off between the God Troupe and Mankai Company, someone sent a copy of Tsuzuru Minagi’s script to Kusumi Ikaruga and encouraged him to plagiarize it.

Reni: Furthermore, that person had sent people to attack the members of Mankai Company as they headed to the God Theater the day of the act-off.

Zen: Those must’ve been the guys Banri and I fought against.

Reni: When I questioned Kusumi, he denied involvement with the latter incident, but confessed the name of the former’s perpetrator.

Reni: Moreover, it’s not the first time this person’s done something like this, as they’ve also had someone plagiarized Hakkaku Ikaruga, once before.

Hiro: No way, THAT plagiarism…?

Reni: Kashima knows about this.

Yuzo: It was his son, Kusumi, who plagiarized Hakkaku’s script.

Yuzo: Yukio decided to protect the theater company on the condition that he’d take full responsibility for the plagiarism and leave the theater world.

Yuzo: Its thanks to him that Mankai Company still exists and is eligible for the Fleur Award.

Hiro: I see… So, he did it to protect the company…

Yuzo: Yukio must have thought about Hakkaku's feelings of wanting to protect his son, Kusumi, so the truth of the plagiarism was never made public.

Zen: So who was the person who urged Kusumi to plagiarize on both occasions?

Yuzo: I’m not sure. Yukio didn’t elaborate on it.

Reni: … Keiju Amadate. He’s the head of the Hyakka Troupe, to which Kusumi was once a scriptwriter for.

Kasumi: The Hyakka Troupe?!

Yuzo: Isn’t he also a member of the Board of Directors?

Zen: So he would have the money and power to do something so bold…

Reni: At the time of the first plagiarism scandal, apparently it was Amadate who suggest Yukio to leave the theater world for the sake of Hakkaku and the theater company.

Reni: He promised that if Yukio did so, the truth about the plagiarism would never be exposed.

Hiro: It was more of a threat to stay silent and withdraw from the theater world than a promise.

Zen: Even though he’s the one who tempted Kusumi into doing this.

Kasumi: Kusumi was working for the Hyakka troupe, so why put the blame on Mankai Company…?

Reni: It was Amadate’s plan.

Reni: Mankai Company would’ve been put at a disadvantage had it been brought to light.

Yuzo: If we made one wrong move, it would’ve been Hakkaku being blamed for plagiarism instead of Kusumi.

Syu: Even if they were to go to court, it’d just cause tension between the parent and child, and Hakkaku would’ve had a rough time with that.

Zen: Did Hakkaku know about this?

Reni: Yes, but he didn’t know the details. The only thing he was aware of was that Kusumi had plagiarized.

Reni: Though, there’s a chance he vaguely knew that Tachibana took the blame for all of it.

Reni: Anyway, for some reason Amadate harbors strong animosity and hatred towards Yukio and the Mankai Company.

Hiro: So, they tried setting up this new scandal after the success of the first one.

Zen: However, this attempt is different than the first's.

Zen: If we weren’t careful, there's a chance that both Kusumi and the God Troupe would have been denounced.

Reni: I thought so too. If the God Theater was targeted, it would have been a hindrance as a Fleur Award nominated theater company.

Kasumi: But, the Hyakka Troupe doesn't have to resort to such tricks, they're good enough to win the Fleur Award on their own merit.

Hiro: Even so, at the end of the day, it's all up to the consensus of the Board of Directors that decides. It isn’t surprising that they’d try to nip any sort of competition in the bud.

Zen: Even if they’re only able to take down Mankai Company instead of the God Troupe, it’d still be more than enough for them.

Yuzo: Are the other members of the Board are unaware of this?

Reni: It’s no exaggeration to say that Amadate has almost complete control over the Board of Directors, even though he holds a mid-level position.

Syu: All the members of the Board of Directors have become watered down.

Yuzo: They ain't bad people, though.

Reni: That's how good Keiju Amadate is at gaining control over people's hearts. And there’s no doubt that he’s a man who will go through any means to an end.

Reni: Because of such a situation, I decided it was necessary to get inside the Board of Directors that Amadate was in control of.

Yuzo: Hey, it's not that easy to get inside...

Reni: Of course not.

Reni: But when I talked with the Chairman through a personal connection, it seems that he had been feeling uneasy about Amadate's movements for a long time.

Reni: After promising to side with the Chairman, I was added to the Board of Directors as a candidate on the Chairman's recommendation.

Reni: I need to grab Amadate by the tail and expose everything he's done up until now before he completely rots the Board of Directors council.

Kasumi: But if you become a board member, wouldn’t it be difficult for the God Troupe to be nominated?

Kasumi: The Hyakka Troupe is top class in Japan both in name and recognition, so if they don't get nominated, it'd be suspicious...

Hiro: Board members would be suspected of collusion if the nominated theater companies were related to them.

Syu: It's funny how the president of the Hyakka Theater is so sincere in this aspect, even though he’s so sinister.

Yuzo: You gonna be alright Reni?

Reni: What a foolish question. Just like Hyakka, my theater is recognized well enough that the public would think it strange if it wasn’t nominated.

Kasumi: So true~ .

Hiro: If you're prepared to do all of this, then I'll do my best to help.

Kasumi: I also have to pay back Yukio.

Zen: And we should also send Amadate our regards for all that he did to us.

Yuzo: So, what's your next move?

Syu: I'm trying to contact people within Hyakka Theater Company without being noticed by Amadate.

Syu: I’ll just be giving a progress report today.

Kasumi: How are things going Syu?!

Syu: Well… The more I investigated, the more I realized how tightly Amadate controls all the members in the theater.

Syu: But just when I thought I was out of luck, I received an anonymous email. –Look.

Syu: “Man was born for love and revolution. – K”

Kasumi: K reminds of Natsume Soseki’s novel, Kokoro.

Zen: The quote’s by Dazai Osamu though.

Syu: Based on the address, it looks like they from the Hyakka Troupe.

Syu: However, it’s possible that this is a trap set up by Amadate, so I’ve held off on replying.

Syu: But, sitting around doing nothing won’t help us. I can try reaching out to them if you want, Reiji.

Reni: Do as you’d like.

Yuzo: Syu, you called us over today to tell us something. Is there something else going on?

Syu: Right. I'm running out of information I can gather on my own through my contacts, so I’d like to ask you all for your help.

Hiro: In that case, I'll try to find for information in the entertainment industry from people that seem to have a close connection to Keiju Amadate.

Kasumi: Once we get enough material to corner Amadate, I can collaborate with Nadeshiko Publishing to get it published in their weekly magazine.

Zen: There’s a performer here at Gentiana who came from Hyakka, although he goes by a different stage now.

Zen: He doesn't talk about his past much, but I'll try to ask him about his time at Hyakka and get as much information as I can.

Yuzo: What should I do then?

Kasumi: You can come babysit my daughters. They like you because you play a good monster.

Yuzo: That has nothing to do with Yukio's case!

Syu: Then I’ll get props for Yuzo’s wonderful performance

Hiro: You could be my bodyguard with that face—

Yuzo: Again, that has nothing to do with Yukio!

Reni: (How reassuring it is, to have companions like this...)

Reni: (We need to get Yukio back as soon as possible. Everyone’s waiting for him.)
