Gossip Girl Reboot 2x08: Quotes

- “Rise and shine, followers. They say the first 15 minutes of the morning can make or break any day. I suppose that depends on if you got up on the wrong side of the bed. Or perhaps you’re not getting out of bed at all these days. And to the early birds who managed to thrust themselves out into the world, I wonder what did you find?” (GG)

A Sequel To Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Charlie Bucket and His Chocolate Factory (Character Descriptions)

It's been thirty years, and quite frankly, Charlie Bucket is tired. He can't keep doing this forever, and he doesn't want to try, but isn't that what Willy Wonka told him all those years ago?

So he gets an idea. He just never could have expected it to get this crazy...

- Elvira Fowl (Age: 9-10. First Golden Ticket Winner of Surrey, England.)

Born into a high society family that didn't even need to try to be high society, Elvira is used to the high life and therefore doesn't do anything for herself, and when she does, it usual turns out to not end well or be a very drastic thing. For example, she found her Ticket by cutting open various Wonka bars (which she stole from a maid) with a pair of kitchen sheers, and almost eating the ticket.

Her reckless unintelligence, and constant mispronouncing of words, are both a result of how she has never sat down for a full class in school in her life. She's extremely pretty, but as much as she's considered the most beautiful in all of England, she is also considered the dumbest. This results in her mother being quite annoyed with her antics... a LOT.

Beatrice Fowl married into this money and is seriously regretting it, as her husband, Ferdinand, hardly speaks to or notices anyone anymore, and her daughter is a disobedient brat. Elvira is known to, when she doesn't get her way, throw a temper tantrum like she's two and not nine, also a side effect from never maturing by going to school, as one is supposed to.

No one really knows why she wanted a Ticket, though she CLAIMS to like Charlie Bucket's candy, despite her parents not letting her eat it since it interferes with her complection. But no one really knows why she wants anything, at times. Nevertheless, she came home one day demanding, and stole from a maid a box of chocolate bars gifted to her, immediately slashing. Soon she became the first winner, and is now on her way to the factory alongside her (very relunctant) mother.

Elvira is considered the most beautiful of England, a short girl with straight black hair and wide green eyes, and pale skin that is always impeccably clean and perfect. In fact, everything about her is always clean.

For their style, I imagine the Fowl's are the type to dress preppy, in pastel colors of yellow, blue, pink, and white, usually in skirts and blazers, or suits and ties for Ferdinand's case.

I chose the name Elvira Fowl because Elvira was originally going to be Veruca Salt's first name before it was changed by Roald, and she's supposed to remind you of a certain little brute. The surname Fowl reflects both how she's a foul person and a 'fool', due to her unintelligence.

- Narcissa Pottle & Echo Pottle (Age: 16. Second and Fifth Golden Ticket Winners of Nafplion, Greece.)

Twin sister and brother Cissa and Echo are as different as they are the same, both seeking attention and love, but in far different ways.

Narcissa's name is as ironic as it can be, as she is a narcissist, and a bad one at that. She is constantly doing things that will get her the greatest attention from the world, how dangerous some things may be. She often goes great lengths for the likes, dying her hair various absurd colors to stay in trend, or traveling far and wide for the best scenery in her pictures. This has branded her the title of "The Devil Whose Always Daring" and instead of feeling offended by it, she took it with stride, expanding her presence on social media to becoming a full on dare devil as well. She runs various social media platforms, of which she has hundreds of thousands of followers, and posts challenges often, using her parents money to get to the places she needs to go and acquire the safety she needs to complete some of these dares.

Now Echo is a particularly unique form of attention seeker. He doesn't tend to seek the attention of the public, more so his family, especially his sister. Since she was little, Cissa has always been ignoring Echo, so, naturally, Echo has always seeked her attention. He does this by attempting to do things better than his sister, but his imagination is worthless, so he always ends up just copying something that's already been done. By age ten, Echo, much like his sister did with being a dare devil, has embraced that character flaw, and now calls himself "The Echo", and is also popular on social media platforms, but is more of a joke to people than anything.

When hearing of the Golden Ticket Contest, Narcissa immediatly saw it as the greatest attention grabber of the time, seeing as so many people were going wild over the thing. Her parents, always willing to bend to her narcissistic needs, managed to buy thousands of Wonka bars for the girl, though, unlike one Veruca Salt years before, Cissa unwrapped every bar by herself, reflecting on how much work she's willing to put in to gain attention. It eventually paid off, and she managed to sell all the chocolate to her followers on YouTube.

Echo, being Echo, immediately wanted not just to copy his sister, but everyone around him. With everyone being obsessed with the bars, he was convinced now he had to get one too. His parents had spent too money on his sister, however, so he watched all of Mike Teavee's interviews from the first contest, and after months managed to train himself to hack into Charlie Bucket's system just how he had done to Wonka, and soon, the family was back on cameras, younger child with Ticket in hand.

Narcissa and Echo are the same height, with the same golden blonde hair and wide dark eyes, slightly suntanned skin and freckles. Cissa has only a few freckles while Echo is covered in them, and both their hairstyles are curled but Echo has bangs. Mr. Sebastian Pottle, a rich businessman in charge of Pottle's Bottles, is a short and round man, with curly but shaggy blonde hair and beady black eyes. Phoebe Pottle, a weather lady, looks nothing like her daughters, with a slim figure and gaunt features. Her dark hair and wide eyes make her look more like a corpse than a woman, and her seemingly permanent frown isn't helping the aesthetic one bit.

For their style, imagine the typical Greek style of loose fitting whites and blues for their parents, but Narcissa prefers high price dresses to stand out in, and Echo copies whatever the latest trend is. For the factory, that may just be copying all the Ticket Winners of the past.

Narcissa's name is pretty obvious, as it is supposed to show she's a narcissist, but when I discovered that Echo was a Greek name, I realized it was perfect, as, obviously, an Echo is the repeat of a sound, and in Greek legend, Echo suffered from an unrequited love until all that was left of her was her voice. This reflects how Echo is constantly trying to gain his sister's love, but all she hears is his "annoying" voice.

- Ivoire La Citsitoge (Age: 13. Third Golden Ticket Winner of Paris, France)

Violet Beauregarde's second cousin once removed... or something... Ivorie is as much of a winner as she was, as it seems to be a thing that runs in the family. Although, while Violet specialized in gum, Ivoire favors horse riding and tennis, of which he is very good at, particularly in trick riding.

While Elvira stole, Narcissa used money to her advantage, and Echo hacked, Ivoire used hard work and his own money to find the Ticket. Although, to be honest, he didn't really want to. He didn't even eat chocolate. Sure, he found some candies good, but not enough to want to go to Charlie's factory. His parents would never have their kid giving up the chance to win something, however, certainly not something so rooted deep within the family.

Personality wise, Ivoire is a very vain man, the victim of his parents brainwashing. He often makes fun of people around him that he considers beneath him, and is famously focused on his image constantly, a perfectionist who will end a training session when a single speck of dirt lands on his cheek while on horseback. Despite his horse being just, if not more important to his success, Ivoire makes a point to always center the attention on himself and never others. In fact, the black stallion that he has had since he was old enough to not ride ponies anymore, never was even named.

All his life Ivoire has been compared to and told to be better than Violet. Well, now was his time to prove he could be, by winning what she never could. But maybe the Beauregarde line is destined to fail at Wonka's tests. Maybe they don't deserve a factory. Or maybe, just maybe, being prideful and as confident as they are, isn't the right method to obtain a trophy. I guess we'll leave it up to the tour to decide.

Ivoire's parents, Indigo and Odette, each passed down certain traits to their son. He inherited Odette's copper skin and dark eyes, but Indigo's narrow slit shape of eyes and his wavy brown hair. He is considered extremely handsome, the perfect celebrity face for newspapers, and therefore can add being obsessed with his looks to his brainwashing list.

The style of the La Citsitoge family is primarily sports attire, to establish their want to win, though Odette was a model and so her clothes reflect that, always complimenting her figure.

I chose the name Ivoire because it is a french cognate of the color Ivory, and I wanted to keep the color name tradition going. La Citsitoge is egotistical spelt backwards, and I made him french because I headcanon the Beauregarde's to have French origins, as their name is uncommon in America and prominently a French name.

- Sepsis Gilligrass (Age: 15. Fourth Golden Ticket Winner of Virginia, USA.)

The President of the United States is expected to, at all times, uphold a respectable image for the press, and that includes his family. And while Harry Gilligrass' wife, Amanda, daughter, Alexis, and dog, Stewie, all do this, his son is anything but respectable.

Sepsis regularly, and proudly, marks the times he has been suspended from school on his favorite baseball cap, which he continues to persistently wear despite it being worn out and dirty, and having been kicked of the team he got it for after a day. He's a bully and a delinquent, causing damage to school property when he's not beating down innocent kids. And he's not at all smart, either, unlike his older sister Alexis who was top of her class in everything, and never messed around a bit.

Yes it's true the Gilligrass family have, for the most part, been good people. This has led to other family members and friends to call Sepsis the 'bad seed', and the 'plague' in their family line, for how different he truly is. He seems to revel in this, however, doing whatever he can to make himself stand even more out from the crowd.

The press is always quick to assume he enjoys life as a First Child, as he gets away with a lot more things do to his standing, but in truth, he must hate it more than any other First Child ever did in history. He doesn't feel he gets to 'be a kid' as much as he wants to with this huge title, though perhaps this is a good thing, as to him, being a 'kid' really means blowing something up.

This may have you all wondering, then, why he wanted a Ticket in the first place? Well, it's true he hates chocolate, but when beating up a kid on the school playground, he ransacked his bag and found a box of bars, which he opened only to mockingly eat one in front of him. This bar happened to have the ticket inside, and while he tried to sell it, he realized his goons were starting to celebrate him, and thought of all the trouble he could cause in Charlie's factory, and agreed to go on the tour in the end. Although he may find the factory tends to cause more trouble to its guests then they can do to it.

Sepsis is a tall, gangly boy, but is strong enough in a fight that he can beat up kids years younger than him. He has pale, bony skin, and black, spiked hair that he likes to die the tips of. For the tour, he dies his whole hair, making the roots red and tips orange, his whole head looking to be on fire.

While the Gilligrass style is mostly high price, clean clothes like nude slim dresses or sweaters and miniskirts, Sepsis dresses in baggy jeans and sweatshirts most of the time, and always wears the newest brand of sneaker.

The name Sepsis isn't actually a name, but a disease which happens when chemicals released into the bloodstream and used to treat an infection only make said infection worse, causing inflammation across the skin and health problems that can lead to death. I wanted a name that, like Veruca, wasn't a 'real' name but an illness or disease. I thought sepsis fit because Sepsis is supposed to represent the 'bad seed' in his family, or the chemical that infects the blood and body. Gilligrass is the name of the President from the Catcf sequel book Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, so I thought it was practically necessary.

- Chew Ming (Age: 14. Sixth Golden Ticket Winner of Chengdu, China.)

After failing at getting a single good kid, Charlie, fed up and annoyed with the blatant cheating, releases two more tickets, and the first to make sure she got one of these two was a young principal's daughter Ming.

The reason being not because Ming liked candy by any means, or Charlie, or his factory, but because she didn't. She's a smart girl, so common sense told her that, like the last tour, Charlie was hosting this one to find an heir. And, taking one look at the other kids, and the damage his candy does to a child's obedience every day, she knows she has to win to put a stop to the whole corporation.

Ming, her mother Jia, and her father, the principal of her school, Feng, all are as stuck up as you can get, focused only on rules and learning, and under the strict belief that children shouldn't ever get to play, as it only leads to 'disobedience.' Beyond that, if there's something the Chew family hates more than anything in the world, its candy, as they believe it to be the devil of children's 'disgusting items that only encourage chaos.'

It should be said, however, that the Chew family are also slight hypocrites, as well Ming is a very well rounded and intelligent student, she also often uses her power as the Principal's daughter to get other students in trouble, of which she gains no reconciliation. She also secretly enjoys eating candies outside her parents eyes, or playing in the backyard on sick days.

To gain her ticket, Ming used her whole allowance and handed the bars she bought with it to her detention students of the week, buying one box from each country in Asia, and making them all sort through them, eventually taking and claiming the Ticket that one of them indeed ended up containing. This event of course did nothing to still Charlie's attitude, especially since she, like the others, cheated.

The Chew family hardly looks anything alike. Chew Feng has pale and wrinkled skin, causing some to make the immediate stereotypical assumption that he's Ming's grandfather. His wife is a short, chubby woman with curly dark hair and eyes. Ming has long copper hair she usually ties in two braids, and remarkably dark eyes, and is one of the taller kids.

Feng is always seen in his famed blue suit and red tie, his wife matching with some blue and red dress, and Ming prefers to wear her school uniform often times. And if not that, then just simple preppy clothes like skirts, stockings, and sweaters.

For Ming I wanted her name to reflect her smarts, but also start with an 'M', due to her being based off of a cut character by the name of Miranda Mary Piker. I discovered Ming meant brilliant and knew I had struck gold.

- Charlotte Sweezy (Age: 10-11. Seventh Golden Ticket Winner of Treaticetown, England.)

As soon as Charlie laid eyes on Charlotte, he knew he had found his heir. She was perfect. She lived on the other side of the factory form where had, she didn't buy dozens of Wonka bars, or was talented nor rich by any means, she was just an innocent bystander girl, who could afford a singular Wonka bar on her birthday after he released more, and gladly bought one. She was, by all means, just like him.

Though she certainly wasn't as buried deep in poverty as Charlie and his family had been. The house she lived in was falling apart, true, and hardly of good quality to begin with, but it had separate rooms, and at least she was able to sleep below a closed roof and not get hypothermia from the wide open hole next to her head.

And her mother, Kelsyy Sweezy, was the only one she had to live with, and Kelsyy was by all means a great mother, always somehow being able to work hard all day and night then come home to make dinner in time for Charlotte coming home from her job, and then be a mother by asking how her day went, and teaching her to be nice even to bullies. The two lived in hard times, but it was at least manageable, because they had each other.

Charlotte never knew her father. Left a long time ago, before she was even born. And her mother refuses to ever open up about her grandparents, no matter how many times she tries. But, she loves her still, and, when she comes home and ask her darling daughter what she'd like for her birthday, she is quick to respond, without hesitation, "one Wonka bar please."

Now Kelsyy, when she was just a little girl, had also wanted a bar, in the hopes of finding the Golden Ticket and going to Mr. Wonka's factory. She did eventually get one, a whole box at the time, but even when she spent her time unwrapping every single bar, she didn't see a single glimpse of gold. The disappointment had made her refuse to eat any of the chocolate for the next week, though she had still gone to the gates like everyone else and witnessed the kids be led out by their parents, drastically mutated and changed. Well, except for Veruca Salt.

Due to this, she had debated not even getting Charlotte a bar, purely because she didn't want the little girl to suffer the same pain she had when she opened it and saw no gold. But, she knew that without the bar at all she'd be just as disappointed, and all the little girl wanted was a chance, and really, was that so much to ask?

So she got her the bar, and she opened it on her birthday. But imagine the surprise when it ended up containing the final Golden Ticket.

Now the two are off to see the Chocolatier, a duo that never parts, and prepared for the experience of a lifetime.

Mother and daughter look hardly similar. Kelsyy has her bright orange hair done in tangled curls, that don't go past her chin. A line of bangs hides her forehead, and her tall, slim, bony figure perfectly represents a full time working mother just trying to make ends meet. Charlotte is a very small and skinny girl, with longer brown hair she usually does in braids, and a matching line of bangs. They both share the same colored steel grey eyes.

Their style consists of whatever fabrics they can find patched together, because they really can't afford any proper clothing, so their outfits only further sell the tired and always working family of two look.

I chose the name Charlotte since it's a female version of the name Charlie, and I wanted to sell home this idea of her being "just like him." Sweezy is derived from "Sweet" to reflect the family's kind perosnality.

Or was it?

No one, not even Giovanni himself, knows how he got his ticket. Well, they know HOW he did it, but not how it could have possibly worked.

He was doing what he always did; heading to his home past the garbage dump and checking to see if he found anything useful, when the Italian boy heard complaining about the end of the contest and turned to see someone dumping perfectly good Wonka bars from their store into the back of his truck.

"I certainly don't need these anymore." The clerk had said, in Italian, obviously, before clapping his hands and heading off, whistling. He climbed into the driver's seat and started to drive away, when, Gio got an idea.

He had always wanted a Wonka bar throughout the whole time watching people go nuts over the things. Not because he wanted to win a Ticket, no, but becuase he simply wanted the chocolate. His family thought candy was a waste of time, as they did with anything he showed the slightest of interests in, and therefore never gave him the money to buy anything. No matter, he often found what he needed in the dump, without ever even thinking of what he was thinking now. But as he looked at the back of that truck, open and so easily attainable...

He was ducking behind an alleyway and unwrapping the bar before he knew it. Although, he seemed to blackout once more when, lo and behold, a rectangle of Gold paper shined beneath the wrapper, just a tad sharp on the edges to the touch.

All his life Giovanni had never really gotten to be a kid. His Dad's a drunk, his Mom's a criminal, his older sister smokes and drinks and does drugs and brings home guys and all the stuff a seventeen year old shouldn't do but still does and will probably get pregnant by the end of High School. He's ignored because he doesn't want to be like them. Smoking, drinking, and robbing. He's ignored because he's the good kid, and apparently, good kids aren't wanted at the Coco family home.

But now he finally had something that was his. Had something he wanted. And while he had to go with at least one guardian due to the rules, it didn't matter. He was still going, and that was worth his sister coming along, the other brats most likely bullying him the whole time, and the press accusing him of faking a Ticket.

(But Charlie Bucket had come himself and proven it to be real, so what exactly has happened?)

It didn't matter. He was going to Charlie Bucket's Chocolate Factory, they all were, and nothing could possibly get in their way now.

Giovanni is a short, tiny little boy with olive skin and dark hair that he comes down nicely, because he believes it to be polite and respectable to keep your hair looking nice. His older sister, Bianca, is much taller than him, but has an attractive figure, with wide hips and an attractive bust. Her skin is also olive in color and her hair dark, but she curls it intricately all the time.

The family dresses in ripped jeans and leather jackets, looking more like greasers than normal neighborhood people. Even Gio doesn't get a say and has to wear a jacket. Each jacket has their name spelled across it though, so it's not THAT bad.

The name Giovanni Coco doesn't really have any important meaning, but that's the point. He's supposed to be the normal kid who no one expected that came out of literally no where.

So, that's it. We started with five, but now, apparently, we got eight ticket winners. And Charlie will be taking a grand total of... Nineteen people into his factory! That really is a stretch but while we should be worried about how Charlie can possibly handle all those brats, I'm more interested to see how they handle his Factory.

Guess we'll have to find out!

Where do you think all the money is going to come from? Then again you may live your life with the attitude of ‘let’s eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die’. There is also a chance that it’s not your money you’re spending. You may be funded by your parents or have been left an inheritance and think that money grows on trees. Regardless, you need to exert some discipline as the well will run dry at some stage.

Where taste and style is concerned, there is a tendency to follow every trend whether it suits or not. Clothes may be expensive but gaudy and tacky. Like a lotto winner gone overboard and mad, bling may be the order of the day as you like others to see how much money you have to throw around. Unfortunately, you may end up looking a bit trashy so remember ‘less is more’ and you will not go wrong. The thing is that money cannot buy sophistication, refinement or grace if you just don’t have it, and a wardrobe load of designer clothes and heaps of sparkling jewellery won’t cover it up either. You can work on it though by taming down the volume and being more discreet. Then again, you may have all the style, grace and sophistication but carry an air of superiority and look down your nose at others. You may be full of ‘airs and graces’ , conceited and way too self-absorbed with your own importance and image. Like many so-called celebrities, you may be famous just for being famous.

The Nine of Pentacles can also point to the opposite and suggest you are working too hard, allowing precious little time for leisure, social activities or relaxation. It can imply that you are a workaholic. You may not need the money but continue to let work dominate your life. There can be an inability to relax even though you have earned it. It can be all work and no play. On the other hand, you may have no choice in the matter. You may have to work every hour possible just to cover your overheads and pay the bills. This is especially true if you are trying to pay for a lifestyle you can’t really afford. Unlike the first instance where you may be guilty of spending money you don’t have, in this case, you are spending everything you have earned and must keep earning more and more just to keep up.

You may have set your sights high, gone for the big house, flashy car, expensive holidays and designer clothes. You might also be putting your kids through private schools or funding college. Status and prestige may be more important to you than free time or relaxation, so if keeping up appearances is important to you, then you will be happy to grind yourself into the ground. If this is your personal choice, so be it, but you may also be under pressure from your partner or spouse to maintain a certain standard of living. You will need to reflect on why you do it and what your priorities are. If someone gave you an option to walk away and live a more simple, less showy life, would you jump at it?

Following on from the above associations for the Nine of Pentacles Reversed, we also see the all too common dilemmas so many well-meaning and good intentioned people have found themselves in as a result of the recession. A huge number of people made a lot of money during the boom years. They studied hard, graduated and began top salary careers with large bonuses, perks and company cars. They began relationships with similar career-oriented ambitious partners. The money poured in and the spending was frenzied. Banks were literally throwing money at them and pre-approving large mortgages before they had even been asked for. Big properties were bought and sometimes a holiday home. Then there was the pressure from peers and banks to buy more investment properties for rental purposes. When the crash came, jobs disappeared overnight along with the perks and bonuses. If they were lucky, they had a company car that was just taken back but most had probably invested in a top of the range model and were still liable for the huge monthly repayments. Property prices plummeted and spiralled into negative equity but their mortgage repayments went up due to interest rate increases. So, they were left in their big luxury houses, with the fancy car or jeep outside and wardrobes full of designer clothes. They also had the mortgages on their rental properties which were now all vacant because of job losses. The holiday home was mortgaged up to the hilt aswell. There was one big problem though, there was no money to pay for any of it anymore. They couldn’t sell because of negative equity and they couldn’t pay their mortgages because of no money. They couldn’t get a job to save their life. What a mess. So the Nine of Pentacles Reversed very appropriately highlights these wretched situations. It hit a certain sector of the population dramatically. The nouveau riche very quickly became the nouveau poor. Was it a crime for them to want to improve their standard of living or did they get their just rewards because of greed. Many worked very hard to afford their lifestyles, putting in years of study and training but others appeared to move too fast, too soon and became rich overnight.

The Nine of Pentacles Reversed can also suggest that you have been very ambitious and have worked your way up the ladder in your career or business. Your goal was success and financial freedom and you have given years of your life to the pursuit of it making many personal sacrifices along the way. You have succeeded in your mission, reached your goal and realised your dream. The money is now there and plenty of it but you have lost touch with life somewhere along the way and have disconnected. Appearing more machine-like than human, your personality may be non-existent. You may only be able to converse in facts, figures and profit. Everything is weighed and measured. You know the price of everything but the value of nothing. You have what you worked so hard to achieve, but now that it is here, you don’t know exactly what to do with it. It is the accumulation of money that excites and interests you but not the spending of it. You may buy expensive properties and drives top of the range cars but they bring you no joy and you spend very little time in them. Your holiday home on the mediterranean may lie vacant each year because you do not get the whole thing about vacations and the need for them. What a waste.

On the other hand, you may now be viewing your great wealth as a curse rather than a blessing. The garden walls that acted as security in the Upright Nine may now seem like a prison as your very wealth and success have robbed you of freedom of movement and social associations. You might become paranoid about security and theft.

The Nine of Pentacles Reversed can bring dishonesty where money is concerned. Deceit, cons, scams and swindling may be high on the list. Look out for the King of Cups Reversed and the Reversed Magician as there may be professional criminals working their way into your company. They may be hard to recognise by appearances as they are well organised and hide behind suits and sharp white collars. These are the kind who want everything that money can buy but do not want to work for it. They will be after big sums of money, massive fraud or theft of luxury or collectors items. You must guard your assets and possessions well for someone may be out to take them from you.

This Card also refers to property and land. If you are in the process of making a purchase, make sure you check things thoroughly, go over all documentation and fine print. Carry out all the necessary searches and surveys regardless of how genuine and sincere the sellers may be as something may not be right, or is being concealed from you. Remember, the Snail in the imagery of this Card and how he seemed out-of-place in the beautifully manicured garden. There may be something out-of-place with your purchase too. Regarding property there is also the threat of damage as a result of vandalism or storm.

The discipline that was so strong in the Upright may be sadly lacking when the Nine of Pentacles falls into Reverse. You may not have the tenacity, determination or staying power to follow your plans or goals through to completion. You may be too impatient to see results and as a result become impulsive and take ill-advised action. You may fail to get the result you had hoped for. Success may be achieved but not to the level of your satisfaction. You may pull out of college too soon or fail to get further qualifications that will seal your future. There is a danger of abandoning your long-term plan in favour of a get rich quick scheme that is bound to fail. Nothing can replace good old hard work and slow but steady progress but you do not have the patience for that.

Your wealth may have been gained by underhand or illegal means as we now see the wealthy drug barons living it up on the Mediterranean secure behind their high walls and armed guards. What price have you paid to get where you are today? The truth may be hidden behind all the designer clothes, fancy cars and sprawling house. Prostitution can sometimes be suggested by this Nine especially if accompanied by The Devil Card and King of Cups Reversed.

If you have made financial investments for your future, you may cash them in too soon or they fail to mature as well as you had hoped for when the Nine of Pentacles Reverses. You may have to sacrifice some of your plans for retirement or may not be able to retire as planned. The recession may have had a very negative impact on your investments, and depending on surrounding Cards, you may not be able to retire at all.

If you have reached a certain age, you may feel very disappointed at how things have worked out for you. You might be comparing your life to those around you of a similar age. You may see others as having an easy life or being well taken care of in their middle years while you are still struggling. Everyone seems to have it better than you. You had probably presumed when younger, a certain lifestyle you would have when older. Yes, you would have to accept that you were getting older, ageing even, but there would be a lot of positives that would go with it. You would be able to relax more, take it easy, do your own thing. You may have envisaged travel or lunching with friends. Possibly taking up golf or art classes and getting your hair blow dried every week. You would have swapped your trendy clothes for well-cut tailored key pieces that flattered and hung well. You probably planned on tinkering around in your garden or having the house revamped. What a let down and how wrong you could have been. Instead you are stuck in your boring job, eking out a mere existence, and having nothing to look forward to. You can’t afford to get you hair cut or buy nice clothes and you don’t know the last time you were able to sit in your garden. You wouldn’t be able to buy a golf ball let alone pay for a round, and holidays are a thing of the past. Your mortgage should have been paid off years ago but then there was the divorce and having to buy a new property after the money was split. Then again, your health may not be great when the Nine of Pentacles Reverses. You may not be looking after your body the way you should. Nutrition may be poor and you might be lacking in physical exercise. You may be too lazy but then again, may not have the time to give it your proper attention. As this Card can suggest Menopause, there may be hormonal imbalances causing you to feel pretty low or ill. Look for the High Priestess Reversed and The Reversed Moon for more evidence of this. You may be trying to keep up the hectic pace you always did, but now must try to slow down a little. If The Empress Reversed appears in the Reading close to the Nine of Pentacles Reversed, it can suggest unnatural growths, so women should ensure they keep appointments for breast checks and smear tests.

Where Relationships are concerned, you may be chasing a certain lifestyle and seek prosperous partners in order to access the wealth you desire. You want all the trappings of being rich but are not willing to put in the hard work to earn it yourself. You want to be looked after by a partner who is prepared to spoil and pamper you. You or your partner may be high maintenance and are costing a fortune. Partners are chosen for their bank balance and property portfolio. You may choose to marry for money and not love.

As a couple, you may be financially sound but lack closeness and intimacy. You may marry for status or connections. There is a good chance that this is very acceptable to both of you. This is a throw back to the days of arranged marriages and especially where important families or royalty were concerned. Dowries, titles and land changed hands when the marriage was consummated. Then again you may be working so hard and career focussed, you do not have any time for relationships. However, this may be a deliberate attempt by you to avoid intimacy. You may need to take a close look at yourself in order to understand why.

All may not be well in a relationship when the Nine of Pentacles Reverses. Again, you must look to surrounding Cards. Appearances can be deceiving. This Card is strongly linked to women and especially women of a certain age. However, it can also represent a mature man of a certain age. When this Card Reverses and you are financially wealthy, you must be on your guard against fortune hunters and seducers who will tell you anything you want to hear until they get a ring on your finger. If it all looks too good to be true; a young man or woman declaring undying love and you are old enough to be his or her grandmother or grandfather, then it probably is. Look out for the Reversed Knight of Cups for he is an expert at seduction.

Where pregnancy is concerned, the Nine of Pentacles Reversed can suggest a termination or miscarriage. Then again, if you or someone you know is close to full term it can represent the actual birth, as in not been pregnant anymore. However, you may have either left it too late to have children or chose a career over starting a family.

Where Work is concerned, you may be a workaholic and just do not know when to quit. You may have reached the top of the career ladder but are still not satisfied. Money is all that matters and we see the Pentacles dominate the top of the Card when it Reverses compared to the Upright, where the Pentacles are nearer the ground while the woman looks away. This symbolises her interest in things other than the material world. You may have no outside interests or hobbies. Work is all there is and you have lost balance in your life.

Then again, you may be very ambitious but work shy. You may seek a short cut or easy access route to the top by making a play for the boss’s son or daughter. You may even go after the boss if you think you are in with a chance.

Career-wise, things may not have gone according to plan. You may have lost your high salaried job and are finding it difficult to adjust your lifestyle accordingly. Then again, you may not have put in the effort that was required and now find yourself falling behind and unable to keep up. Success eludes you at every hands turn and you may feel like a total failure when you compare yourself to others. You may have lost sight of your goals or long-term plans, or possibly got distracted. You lacked self-control and self-discipline when it mattered the most. You may find it impossible to get further in your career. Then again, you may have achieved your goal or dream career and find it not what you expected it to be. You may resent the amount of time you have to give to work which takes you away from the things you really want to do. You may walk away from a highly paid job in favour of something less demanding.

The Nine of Pentacles Reversed can also suggest anti-social working hours or working 24/7.

Your Business has not developed the way you wanted it to and years later still find yourself working all the hours god gave in order to keep it in the black. It may be bleeding you dry on many levels but not giving you the lifestyle you had hoped for. You may have invested all your money and have little to show for it. You may have poorly planned for your business or took short cuts which have backfired on you. There may be big losses. Your business may have a ‘flash in the pan’ success but can not sustain it in the long run. However, your business may just be slow to take off, and given time, will be a success as long as you put the effort in and remain patient. Slow but steady progress may be all you can hope for at present.

When the Nine of Pentacles Reverses, your business may be very successful but gain comes from illegal dealings and unprofessional practices. You may be making money out of the misery and suffering of others. Tax evasion, fraud and embezzlement are all associated with this Nine when it Reverses.

If in business, it is important to do some spot checks in all departments to ensure everything is in order and everyone can be trusted. There may be some underhand business going on or dishonesty, so check accounts and stock inventory.

The Nine of Pentacles Reversed can indicate not being able to retire when you want or deciding to work on past retirement age. You may be feeling your age and find work a struggle.

Midterms 2022 Hand Biden Victory

LOS ANGELES (OnlineColumnist.com), Nov. 11,v 2022.--President Joe Biden was the big winner in the Nov. 8 Midterm election, the first time in 20 years that the incumbent’s party hasn’t suffered big losses. When former President Donald Trump faced the 2018 Midterm election, he lost both Houses of Congress, in an historic shellacking, leaving the last two years of his presidency in limbo. Biden walks away with the same number of votes in the U.S. Senate, leaving him in a flatfooted tie with Republicans, with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the decisive vote. When it comes to the House, it looks today like the GOP will narrowly win the House majority when all the votes are finally tallied. But let there be no mistake, no “red wave” materialized for Republicans, leaving the talking class to point fingers at Trump. What Trump has to do with Republicans winning a decisive majority in the House and Senate is anyone’s guess.

Blaming Trump doesn’t begin to tell the real story of what happened on Nov. 8, where Democrats more than held their own, bucking an historic trend. Republicans can thank the Supreme Court for its reckless June 24 ruling to end 1973 Roe v. Wade, giving women the right to abortion. Republicans cheered the ruling while destroying themselves politically, especially among single women and everyone under 40-years-of age. What kind of a self-destructive party thinks that bucking a popular Supreme Court precedent in Roe v. Wade would help their cause? Republicans got what they deserved, all because a zealous conservative majority found a case in Dobbs v. Jackson that gave them a way to end Roe v. Wade. Consequences to the shock June 24 ruling could reverberate for years for the GOP. Had the ruling not occurred, the GOP might have seen their “red wave.”

Biden’s abysmal approval ratings, runaway inflation, dangerous proxy war in Ukraine, wrecked diplomatic relations with Russia and China, all would have given voters reason to vote for Republicans. No, Republicans had to muck it all up with the Supreme Court ending Roe. v. Wade. Just like the 2020 presidential election, voters blamed Trump for mishandling the Covid-10 global pandemic, causing the deaths of one million Americans. George Floyd’s death by Minneapolis cops—and the months of riots that followed—allowed Democrats to associate Trump with White Supremacy or nationalism. Covid-19 gave election officials the chance to use universal mail-in ballots, giving Democrats a 20% advantage over the GOP. So when Trump claims election fraud, there’s no reason to conclude anything other than Democrats did a good job of demonizing him.

Looking at the Nov. 8 Midterms, all the blame going to Trump by the Republican Party signals they do not want him as the party’s nominee in 2024. Democrats, especially the Jan. 6 House Select Committee, have been obsessed with stopping Trump from running in 2024. All the worry and fretting about Trump running in 2024 should be of no consequence to Democrats. Trump faces some stiff opposition to becoming the GOP’s nominee in 2024. Other younger candidates, like Gov. Rick DeSantis (R-Fl.) or Gov. Glen Youngkin (D-Va.), will make it difficult for Trump to win the nomination again. Republicans, especially after the Nov. 8 Midterms, have misgivings about Trump, even if he’s getting unfairly blamed for the lack of a “red wave.” More than anything, the GOP’s support for ending Roe v. Wade came with a big cost to independents, crossover Democrats and young voters.

When you look at the shellacking Republicans took in the 2018 and 2020 elections, their performance in the Nov. 8 Midterms was quite remarkable. Keeping the Senate the same and winning the House by a narrow margin was a unexpected feat, considering trends in the electorate toward Democrats. If the GOP takes over the House, it will wreck Biden’s legislative agenda for the next two years. Everything Biden touches he messes it up, one way or another. Fighting a costly proxy war against the Russian Federation should alarm all Americans, not only for the waste of tax dollars but also the harm caused to U.S. national security. U.S. national security is at the lowest point since after WW II. Biden has wrecked U.S. relations with China and Russia, to the point to starting WW III. No one wants to see WW III or nuclear war with Russian Federation or China.

If Biden hadn’t messed up the economy and foreign policy so badly in his first two years in office, Democrats would have won decisive majorities in both Houses of Congress. Biden pounded his chest at the White House Nov. 9 but, if he’s being honest, Democrats would have made more impressive gains in the House an Senate if Biden did anything right. Roe v. Wade turned off the youth vote to the GOP, leaving Democrats with a clear advantage. When it comes to Trump dragging down the GOP, it’s a farfetched analysis. While it’s true there’s Trump fatigue that could do in any future presidential run, it’s also true that ending Roe v. Wade turned off single women and youthful voters. Even with that obstacle, the GOP held their own the Senate and looks poised to win the House. Any honest analyst shows that Biden was the biggest drag on the Democrat Party.

I shall now yell about Ingo, please stand by:

Ingo’s transformation from the underappreciated backbone of the ranch to an absolute ruff-wearing cantaloupe of a man is also pretty interesting (if you’re the kind of person who absorbs the Zelda series through your skin like a frog to live).

I’ve bolded the key points for skimmers.

Granted, the manga has it that Ingo just gets brainwashed by Twinrova into being a staunch follower of Ganondorf. That’s not canon, but it’s not informing any of this thinking, either way.

In the beginning of OoT we meet Talon by waking him up from a nap, and we learn pretty quickly that he’s lazy and often yelled at by his daughter for slacking off like this. Ingo at the ranch confirms again that Talon doesn’t pull his weight around there, and since Malon’s still a child, it’s pretty obvious that Ingo’s settled with the bulk of the work.

Ingo is grumpy, he’s resentful, and he complains a lot. But he does do the work, and you can find him (presumably) in the process of mucking out the stables.

Let’s examine what he does at the ranch:

Epona really liked that song... Only I could tame that horse... Even Mr. Ingo had a hard time...

Now, Epona is established in game to be a real winner of a horse. She’s fast, she’s smart, she’s got a lovely sorrel coat and white mane that seems to be quite rare or highly prized coloring. The catch is, she is notoriously wild. The only people she tolerates are Malon and Link, due in large part to being soothed by the song Malon’s mother taught her.

Ingo had to really try to crack this horse, which Malon’s observation suggests is unusual.

Epona is very young when we first see her, so it’s never really revealed if she was caught wild, or bred at the ranch with a very headstrong temperament.

Ingo’s clearly the guy that’s breaking them in, though. The most Talon is doing is... sleeping in with the cuccos. We never see any organisation of the cuccos, in terms of egg collection or poultry farming, but nevertheless, Talon has the much less physical jobs even if he was doing them. His focus seems to be cuccos, deliveries to the castle and book keeping between naps (and to be fair it’s probably a little depression related, given the dead wife).

Malon gives us a cow later on, and she’s got the egg for the crowing cucco that wakes up Talon, so I’d like to assume for simplicity’s sake that even as a kid, Malon was up at dawn most days helping Ingo with the cows and milking them. It’s never really implied that she has amazing skill in dealing with horses, just that Epona has a special connection with her specifically. Other than that, Malon is simply kind and respectful of her animals (though I’ve got no idea how she got that cow to Link’s treehouse and that’s worth investigating).

Later on, Ingo is also shown to be a competent rider. Enough that he has absolutely no qualms in challenging Link to races for wagers, and was quite confident of his ability to win.

The takeaway is, Ingo is usually VERY GOOD with both caring for and training horses, if not breeding them for the ranch.

That kind of lends to his grumbling, when he is referring to himself as ‘the Great Ingo’ and comparing himself to Talon, who is a ‘bum’. His claim to greatness may not be undeserved, at least in horse circles, and especially if he’s not getting particular credit for it, his bitterness and frustration (alongside envy, exhaustion, and dreams of recognition) would be quite deeply run.

So it seems that his friend and employer is clearly taking some advantage of him, especially after the death of Malon’s mother.

So now, let’s examine his feelings, and how he changes.

The feelings Ingo has about that are pretty textbook for the sort of thing ‘evil takes hold of and twists’, in the Zeldaverse.

Focussing on the game itself, Malon says this as an adult:

Since Ganondorf came, people in the Castle Town have gone, places have been ruined, and monsters are wandering everywhere. Mr. Ingo is just using the ranch to gain Ganondorf's favor... Everyone seems to be turning evil...

We do see other characters in Hyrule become influenced by the ‘darkness in their hearts’ as byproduct of Ganondorf’s reign.

A prominent example of a character who was visibly dissatisfied with their lot, and then notably changes (while praising Ganondorf for what he’d done), is the Castle Guard who is heavily implied to have become the Poe Dealer. Even if by some slim means it’s not the same person, the Poe Dealer does still express that they could not do the work they do without Ganon as King, and that they now benefit from him being in that position and are grateful to him.

The Kakariko Carpenters seem to have given into their fantasies about living among the Gerudo women, and gone out to the Valley and gotten themselves taken prisoner. Following work near the fortress, the team chooses to act on their selfish desires and go for broke, chasing their dreams. They weren’t previously prepared to act upon these fantasies when Link was young, admittedly much milder in their still very prominent obsession, but seven years later, they’re quite happy to risk it all and piss away the stability of their careers (and nearly their lives) at the first opportunity.

Anyway, the trend is, those across Hyrule who are unhappy with their lot before Ganondorf’s coup tend to be ‘corrupted’ by seven years later, and appear to have given in to a twisted version of whatever they most wanted.

This is noteworthy especially because the language in the game revolves around the Sacred Realm being opened and corrupted, too, by Ganondorf’s unbalanced heart and selfish goals. It is unable to be ‘sealed’ again while Link has the Master Sword. In aLttP, we know there is a mirror like effect to do with the sacred turned dark realm, in which it reflects the hearts of men.

So it is very reasonable to say, that for OoT in particular, much of this evil influence plaguing the land and preying on the darkness an people’s hearts is a result of the corruption of the Sacred Realm. It is an indirect byproduct of Ganondorf’s acquiring of the Triforce, but not necessarily something he himself does to people on purpose, unlike the brainwashing of Nabooru.

Mr. Ingo is just using the ranch to gain Ganondorf's favor... But Dad... He was kicked out of the ranch by Mr. Ingo... If I disobey Mr. Ingo, he will treat the horses so badly...

This explains a lot of the more callous and greedy behaviour that Ingo shows later on, and why it seems to disappear when he is truly humbled by Link.

Link’s win serves as a reminder of Ingo’s stagnating skill with horses, the very thing that made him feel so deserving of praise and recognition in the first place, in that for everything he now has control of at the ranch, he still cannot control that horse. He has become as much of a bum as Talon ever was, relegating Malon to do all the hard work while Ingo struts around uselessly. He’s even lost his touch with the Horses so much, in his arrogance, that now he has taken up mistreating them and using harsh and abusive methods (according to Malon’s concerns).

The humiliation and shame takes hold, his pride shattering with the loss of Epona-- not only as a valuable asset, but also as the horse he could never truly tame.

The dark feelings he was holding onto are let go of, as he regains a sense of humility, and the corruptive influence upon him dissipates. He even seeks out Talon to bury the hatchet and invite him back to the ranch.

Oh, I have to tell you about Mr. Ingo... He was afraid that the Evil King might find out that Epona had been taken away... It really upset him! But one day, all of a sudden, he went back to being a normal, nice person! Now my dad is coming back...I can't believe it, but peace is returning to this ranch!

But what about his obsession with Ganondorf in particular?

When the coup happened, Ingo watched the King of the Gerudo unwittingly play out a sort of grand parallel to what Ingo felt should happen on the ranch. To Ingo’s perception, I think Ganondorf was representing an ideal version of Ingo himself.

A man of the desert, where hard work and grit are as second nature to survive the harsh conditions. A man frustrated with the King of Hyrule’s shit, and forced to swear fealty to him despite being a King himself. A man resplendent with wealth, with fine and flashy clothes and plentiful jewelry.

And perhaps the most important note of all, the Gerudo in OoT?

They’re horse people.

They love horses. Ganondorf’s horse is reputed to be a purebred Black Gerudo Stallion, which is obviously a specialty breed, that is fully armoured and as flashy as he is. When the Gerudo cut the bridge leading to the valley, the only way in and out is to have a skilled horse jump the gap.

They also have a huge horseback archery range, and prowess in the sport is an incredible source of respect amongst the Gerudo, and many of the guards possess bladed polearms suitable for mounted use. From this, it can be assumed that during the recent civil war, Gerudo weapons, war tack and military tactics were probably built around mounted cavalry archers foremost, with a lesser focus on light and heavy cavalry aside (iron knuckle armour springs to mind).

Anyway, Horses are very important to the Gerudo in the era of Ocarina of Time.

So Ganondorf is also unique in the sense that he is the King of a people who value what it is that Ingo does very highly. He, of all people, stands to immediately recognise the knowledge and skill that Ingo possesses in rearing horses.

So this is a man who successfully stages a coup of Hyrule, who clearly inspires Ingo to do much the same of the ranch, and who Ingo also feels is very likely to take his side should he appeal the matter.

And Ganondorf does.

And if that’s not a great compliment to Ingo’s actual skill, I don’t know what is, because Ganondorf is not a man that suffers fools. He’s got a limited patience when it comes to shit that is beneath his notice. Clearly, he recognises that Ingo is indeed the backbone of that ranch-- and the main reason for the quality of its Horses-- and rewards this accordingly.

And for Ingo, being on decent terms with the big scary goth King is a very, very good place to be. But it’s more than that!

What a guy! Not only did he deliver on Ingo’s long due validation, he gave Ingo everything he’d ever dreamed of having to his name, and the authority to kick Talon to the curb. He gets it! Ganondorf, this great eight foot beacon of freshly sought divine power and topaz-encrusted glory, this absolute unit of a man, this great underdog horse-lover after Ingo’s own heart; he really understands how great Ingo is. Ganondorf is paving the way for people like them! Oh, to rub shoulders wiht such greatness when the rest of Hyrule is scorned.

Ingo feels seen. The Great Ganondorf made all that thankless time spent shovelling horse shit while Talon slept mean something. The Gerudo appreciate Ingo’s talents.

And all Ingo has to do is keep turning out really good horses, and promise to present the King with his finest.

So Ingo knows he’s in deep shit when he gets cocky and loses Epona to a wager, who at this point, he’s prepared pretty well and sunk a lot of money into on the idea that she’s going to Ganondorf.

Who he’s probably bragged to about how fast she is.

He lost her to some jerk in tights who’d barely ridden before, too. And then when Ingo tried to cheat him out of the win, the kid jumped the damned fence an in ass-bustingly cool move that really just drove home how excellent and rare Epona was.

One does not promise the King of the Gerudo a fast horse and then fail to deliver, let alone for such a stupid reason.

Honestly, by the end, the man’s just happy to be alive.

Also I’d like to think he and Talon had a much fairer delegation of work and forgave each other, each really learning to appreciate what they have and what’s really important.
