(to clarify: I am not that previous anon) The cannibal!will fandom is a really interesting phenomenon to me since it's being introduced to a fandom that's so very against anything 'out there' or 'nsfw' in any capacity, and since it's something that a lot of people are uncomfortable with (but I also see a lot of defense for it) it's getting a lot of push back. Stranger things is relatively gory and is still technically a horror/thriller (even if it's real silly sometimes) so to me it makes sense to lean into that as a fandom, but they also definitely have sexually charged scenes/hints of sex without making it too explicate for their audience and it's just like, basic, expected, normal sexually active human stuffs. Nothing crazy, nothing kinky. Just. Sex basically (pretty common in these types of shows esp teen thrillers, and even though it's there I appreciate they don't go overboard the way a lot of teen dramas try to play it up and that's always been weird to me, I digress) but even though it's there (just like the horror/gore/thriller aspect is canon and very real themes in the show) for some reason nsfw is still very frowned upon (I'm specifically talking about consensual relationships/aged up characters/adults content here that's still getting a ton of hate) to the point nsfw artists/writers are pushed out of the fandom as a whole, and it kinda feels like people are trying to do that in the instance of cannibal/will as well. It's really disheartening and I guess I'm a little jealous of the nice little pocket of 'freaks' /pos you've helped curate. Purity culture has destroyed curiosity and experimenting in a safe space such as fandom and it's weird af. Fandoms have been pivotal to a lot of people finding themselves and trying new things in safe spaces and I just don't understand how the Stranger Things community is this really weird staunchly anti-sex community, esp when the show itself is just. Not that? Never has been that? ISN'T that. (which I guess with how people be out here viewing Mike the way they do, what can I expect) This isn't a 'kids show' and I GET that there's a lot of kids in the fandom (but it's also definitely not just kids pushing people out of the fandom) but there's no age limit to this show and there are tons of people in different age brackets consuming this show and it's just weird how violently against curating your own content and consuming what YOU want to consume is so frowned upon. Sort of like... Just cause I'm in the Stranger Things fandom doesn't mean I want to see all the ships so I can just. Block them! People tag for a reason. There's no reason people should be dictating what can and can't be put on someone else's blogs, and people are so rude, and make uncalled for comments as if they have any right to tell you how to participate in fandom how YOU want to on YOUR OWN BLOG. It drives me crazy. This fandom is so very uppity and act like if you don't like exactly what they do then you're wrong and should feel bad and aren't allowed to be a part of the fandom at all, and I'm just tired of it. Sorry for the long rant. This isn't like... sorry if this comes off wrong. I'm not trying to attack you at all lmao I know how you feel about nsfw so sorry to come to you about it. It's just you always are so respectful and understanding that it's like, not your thing! And that it's ok to not want to view certain things! And I appreciate that a lot. Everyone is in their right to not want to consume certain content and that's totally understandable (esp when it doesn't line up with your personal beliefs or sexuality or anything like that) but you're not out here going to peoples blogs calling people shitty things for enjoying their fandom the way they want to. If people would just... Live and let live, it'd only be for the better. Probably best not to respond to this since I don't wanna start shit on your blog. I just. Wanted to rant but also say good on you for being you and keep doing it. Fuck everybody else. Fandoms are here to be creative/have fun and it's ok to share morally ambiguous content!

hi anon ! i don't have much to say about anything you said since, as an aroace guy, sexual content is something i never quite interact with. even some making out in fanfics can make me all squirmy and uncomfy ! :S

just know that i'm glad you felt comfortable enough to share your frustrations with me, and please be assured that i'll never harass or attack anyone who produces / enjoys that type of fanworks !!

it is,,, a very nuanced topic. and while i do understand why there's a lot of debate surrounding the topic and i do respect a lot of the arguments for and against the concept, i think the main takeaway from all you said —from all the conversations i've ever seen about it— is that newer fandom members need to learn to curate their online experience.

the tools are there. they're not that hard to use. if seeing something sexual is upsetting to someone, it is relatively easy to avoid it both in ao3 and in here. if someone wishes such content didn't exist, it is quite easy to mute some words and blogs and voilà, it's like it actually doesn't exist !! there's no need to make big posts condemning the morality of content tropes one doesn't enjoy in fandom spaces, and there is absolutely no reason to go attack people who do engage with such content and are just doing their thing (which is a thousand percent worse than anyone creating anything "weird" >:\ ).

live and let live, as you said anon.

and the same goes for the dark stuff i enjoy (like cannibalism and all that). if someone doesn't like it they're free to block me,,, or if they don't want to do that but still don't want to see it, they can just block out certain words or my handy "dark byler agenda" tag. it's easy, it's there, and people need to remember to utilise such tools to cater the stuff they see to their taste ~

(and if they really wish it didn't exist, they could also drown it out by supporting stuff that doesn't have such tropes via reblogging and actually engaging with things, which the fandom as a whole often forgets to do -_- )

I completely understand. I’m sorry you were in a dark place during that time where you were really into Lis. I truly am. And also you don’t have to explain yourself about archiving your old works it’s YOUR art at the end of the day. I get it must me hella frustrating when people keep asking about grahamscott or any old fandom. I understand you. Lis is a special game to you, but you were just in a very dark place that it just if you get back into it, it’ll might make you feel the same way you felt when you were in it. Also I get you might feel like you’re only known for Lis art of grahamscott art, but your dnd art is honestly I prefer it. This might sound weird, but I can see in your art that you truly enjoy your art now more than you used to. So i understand the archiving. It is a bit frustrating sometimes even though I know people don't mean any harm by asking about it. I guess that's the thing with social media. What you once posted will forever haunt you lmao

I was active in the fandom for a bit over 2 years I think? It is quite a long time especially when you consider that I am just 19 years old so that is a notable portion of my life. Also with that comes the inevitable cringing at your old self especially because big changes happen during those years. Simply put, I grew up.

I genuinely feel like I was such a child back then (I mean, I was 16 when I got into LIS so legally a kid still) and a lot of stuff that appealed to me was very much connected to my situation and life experience. This includes Life is strange. I wouldn't exactly say I grew out of it because that sounds too much like implying the game is "too childish" for me now but for example, the appeal of fanon Grahamscott was very much in the angst/comfort aspect of the ship because I related to Nathan as a character at the time. Probably mostly because of my experience with mental illness and dysfunctional family dynamics. After I moved out and cut ties with some family I was finally able to start recovering and respecting myself by setting boundaries. It truly did wonders for my health and self-image. I no longer needed LIS in the same way I had before. I remember a friend saying that he knows he's doing terrible mentally whenever Nathan Prescott as a character becomes relatable and I think that rings true for me as well.

But yeah end of LIS rant. It really means a lot hearing that because I feel that way about my art now. I don't know how to explain it but something about starting playing DnD with a group of close friends of mine really re-ignited a long-lost passion for fantasy art that I had had as a young kid. It reminded me of why I started drawing in the first place. I suddenly became so fixated on my own characters and their stories that it naturally improved my art because I started consuming more and more art from other fantasy artists that inspired me. Also since I have come to the conclusion that I want to make art my career I started taking my work more seriously than I had in my fandom days. I actually started thinking about what I truly wanted from art. Not just what would get me the most likes and comments but what makes me feel content. What I want to express and depict in my art.

To me personally, there is a stark difference in my art now compared to what it was in my LIS days for example. Not just in my technical skills but also in my passion for what I do.

you can queue posts by either a) clicking the reblog button > clicking the arrow next to it once it opens the page where you can add comments > selecting 'add to queue'; or

What not to do to artists...

This is something that happened a couple days ago when I posted part of the Pride Series drawings on Twitter. Just a normal compilation of a few of the couples (since I’m posting the couples individually only on Tumblr and Instagram):

Nothing out of the ordinary, right? The post was doing pretty good actually, more than any of my other posts on Twitter has! Until I came across the only comment on it...

[Putting it under the cut cause I guess I ranted a little too much, sorry...]

[Description/translation: A reply to the previous tweet reading as “This last one doesn’t make sense, they’re not a couple like the others, which are actually good. By the way, I prefer Sirius with James” and displaying four digital pictures of the shipp Sirius x James, from Harry Potter]

To which I replied:

Me: “I’m just drawing shipps/couples that I personally like, it doesn’t necessarely mean that they are or have to be canon ^^” and it’s okay if you like another shipp, one thing doesn’t exclude the other”

Other: “Ok, I just foung it weird to see Sirius and Lupin as a couple.”

Me: *smile and thumbs up emoji*]

First of all... I’m not even go into the “reposting without credit or permission” territory, cause I know that most artists are aware of that already, but what I don’t understand is how this person thought it was okay to just go basically “well, that couple is weird, I like this one better” and tried to JUSTIFY it by reposting random art they found on the replies of my original fanart.

Look, I’m totally fine if you shipp other couples with the same character. There’s literally no problem with it and I even encourage that because it’s totally okay to work with different dynamics. Believe me, I’m a multishipper in many cases. But if you don’t like or never heard about my shipp (which...is kinda odd, I thought WolfStar was pretty popular in the fandom lmao), what gives you the right to go on my post, where I drew the couples that I like and act like I shouldn’t have drawn it and put along with other couples because “it doesn’t make sense” to you?

Like, they tried to say that my not-canon couple is weird by telling me their not-canon shipp is better? What’s the logic here? (And again, I’m not hating on their shipp, I literally couldn’t care less. I’m just intrigued by the aUDACITY)

I mean, I’ve already seen comments on other artists’ posts that were variations of “oh, I really dislike this couple/character, but the fanart is lovely!”, which is not a good thing to say already...but at least they’re like halfway supportive and kinda have good intentions behind it. Not ideal, but not as bad either. At least in my personal opinion, of course.

But I guess people forget they have the option to just...scroll past it if you don’t like it. Or, at least, don’t be rude when commenting on someone else’s work. Gosh, there are so many shipps and characters that I hate, but some artists that I love and admire do like them, so when they post something related to that shipp I just go “alright” and don’t interact with it at all. Because it’s not within my right to make an artist feel bad about themselves because I dislike the characters involved.

Is it so hard to...not give your opinion when no one asked? And I mean it in this specific case. Cause why would you go out of your way to try to invalidate someone’s work because...you don’t see the sense in it?

Sorry about the rant. This just got me really upset (and laughing at the same time). This is probably just a teenager with too much free time on their hands that happened to scroll past my post and thought it was a personal attack or something.

The moral of this whole text was: please, have some common sense. If you don’t like something, just sigh at it and move on (this phrase applying specifically for this situation with shipps and art). Do not repost fanart without permission, that’s mean to the original artist. Don’t try to shove your favorite couple on someone else’s work. Be nice to people, in general.

As an elriel shipper I find it really sad that the two sides can't just get along and make this "ship-war" more fun. Like why can't we make this fun and just laugh about how we all see these characters going in different directions and joke around I don't get it. Why can't we just be like "5 bucks on elriel!" "I'll raise you ten!". Why you gotta be so serious all the time it's literally a book about fake creatures fucking.

Honestly. Sorry but I'm using this as an opportunity to rant about this fandom because it's so embarrassing, I am so tired of it.

I used to have so many elriel mutuals. I didn't care that they posted about it for years because I had the tag blocked so I got to see their other content still and interact with them. Funny how a bunch of them unfollowed me after acosf though, when I started posting content they didn't like and they couldn't extend me the same courtesy of blocking the tags so we could still interact regardless. I think I still have some but they just might not be as active, idk.

People are way too invested in being right. And they are way too invested in the idea that canon = the only thing you can like.

That's the whole reason fandom exists! To play with canon! To change it in ways that we prefer! Yes fandom exists to get more content about our faves, but that content is inherently not canon. Literally, anything that any of us say about these books, unless it's a direct quote from something that sjm has published, is not canon. People need to get the fuck over it and start to have fun, maybe. Even fanfic that agrees with canon can be tagged on AO3 as "canon compliant". That should tell you something. It's not fucking canon, no matter how close to the books it is.

(Screw canon. Y'all all need to take a giant step back from canon because it's getting mangled in your desperate grasp at this point.)

This whole thing with the character/ship weeks is just another example of how this fandom cannot have nice things. We can't even appreciate the same characters without people making it into a dick measuring contest, what the fuck! And I get anons who get mad at me for pointing out when people say shady shit about Elain, like babes, mes amis, besties, we both like Elain and I am defending her by saying don't reduce her entire personality to bread and roses, why are you mad at me?!

I haven't participated in any events since acosf (except for one elucien hc post that I did last minute) because the events have been tainted. It wasn't just this last week, it was way before this. The events have felt like a contest rather than a genuine enthusiastic "yay, this thing!". And now not only that, but certain people are trying to make events into a contest for territory or "I'm better at liking this character than you are". Gross. And sorry but the timing of the event pages is fucking sus! The fact that people have saved a whole bunch of Elain week event blog titles that they will never use just so that Sue (and others) can't access them, is fucking ridiculous and childish. And the fact that people were being snide about Sue in the comments of the one announcement? And those comments were just treated like those people weren't making pointed, dickhead comments? So much for your neutral, drama-free event. LMAO

And people treat fan art/artists that way as well, like if someone draws elucien it's a checkmark in the elucien column? We can't just enjoy that art? Or if it's an artist who has drawn elriel/elucien/gwynriel, then people get pissed off that the artist they thought was on "their" side has betrayed them? It's so immature.

But I also wonder if the ship war ending will make it any better. Right now I'm seeing a lot of pro/anti Nesta content and I am sighing and pinching the bridge of my nose. If you don't like what someone says about Nesta, just block that person or the tags. It's not enough to have a ship war? We need to be pro/anti individual characters, too?

That frustrates me because how can we have conversations with one another? What's the point of being in the fandom if it's just "I think x" and then all we hear in return is a chorus of "so true bestie".

Fandom is supposed to be fun. People are sucking all the joy out of it.

Yo lemme just tell you that I have friends and family members with strong stereotypical energies of their signs. Like I’ve come across so many phat stelliums then with ppl who have no stellium at all.

thank you + milestone!!

damn, never thought we'd get here, did we?

in all honesty, it's been a pretty shit year. march 'til now has felt like the same month on repeat with tiny tweaks to make it all so much worse. but i'm not here to complain about the worst parts of this year, i'm here to celebrate the best ones.

this was the year that i finally started writing, that i was finally spurred to open a google doc and just type away until a tiny work of fiction stared back at me. my first one was 1k words, a rant to get all of my emotions off of my chest with an idol as my muse. it felt...great, though it also felt a bit odd writing after being an avid reader for years. i always did prefer essays to creative writing, but this year definitely changed that perspective.

i wrote that first blurb along with another fic in late july, and in early august, i asked my friends if i should post them. om august 3rd, i changed this blog from a fic rec to a fic writing blog just like that. i regret none of it.

it's been nearly five months since i revamped this blog and i couldn't be more grateful for the support i have gotten from all of you, whether it be a kind comment, a like, a reblog, all of it. i never thought anyone would like my content, but i've been proven severely wrong by this community. from my irls that are on here, to my lovely mutuals and followers, to those i've talked to a lil bit on this hellsite, to the writers whose fics i absolutely adore, to those who have left a like or a comment on one of my fics, i want to say thank you from the very bottom of my heart ♡

Ok. So this post thread is basically me venting and ranting about social media. If u are uncomfortable or dont care about this u can scroll pass it.

What I wanted to say is: I had enough. Every time I get msgs from my friends that somekind haters shit on my page and accuses me of shit for what I havent done. They repost my art without my permission, rip my comments out of context and this is already for a month or 2.

I got only 1 question: why? Why are u doing this? What do u want to do with spreading crap about me? U want to take me down? U want to make people hate me? Well I will tell u 1 thing - I dont care anymore. Do whatever the f*ck u want, if u got nothing better to do than shit on a person who minds their own buisness.

I had enough of those toxic shitters shitting on my ship (kruelee) that its toxic, while they ship 2 enemies who hate each other (kruecent) together. I had enough of people reposting my art and saying I draw something wrong just because of my artstyle. I had enough of this shit and I dont care anymore.

PS: if u are a kruecent shipper, I dont hate u as long as u dont hate on kruelee and spread shit about it. I respect all shippers until it gets shitty like this and people share their hateful opinions about a fictional ship, which causes innocent shippers getting into trouble because of haters/people who cant hold their mouth full of shit shut.

But at same time, I cant be quiet. I have to speak up and show people I aint the bad guy, because silence usually proofs u are at fault. All I want to do is reach equality. I had enough that shippers like me get blocked for their ship and get hateful comments on their posts, even tho they dont send it to anyone in private and just mind their own buisness creating. I had enough and I stand up for them and am ready to be their shield.

U think u do something good by hating on someone for shipping 2 fictional characters who are both adults? And then u scream someone of these shippers puts their opinions on your hateful opinions??? Lmao then u arent any better. U arent a god to be pure or perfect, u arent god to judge others for what they like. And if u think our opinions arent valid - your arent either.

I speak for all my friends and my favourite artists whom I support in what they do, and seeing hateful comments on their works I wont tolerate. Ok me, I dont care anymore. But others - its too much. U did enough by harrasing us for a somekind artstyle/fictional ship which isnt changable/isnt even real. U broke so many souls, who didnt deserve that.

I had enough watching how my close friends suffer from u all, who harrass us for nothing. Who accuse me, personally, in "sexualisation" "fetish" "toxicity in shipping" even tho they themselves create NSFW content and participate in NSFW rps while being a horny minor.

I had enough of this f*cked up hypocrisy. I had enough of someone thinking they are a king/god to control us. I am speaking up to stop all of this shit.

Now, if u are THAT person reading this and planning to post another hate post. Just stop doing that. U think u are helping? U think u are doing something good? All u do is showing u got nothing better to do, nor do u show you are better. In fact u behave like a immature kid, thinking u are doing SUUUUCH A BIG THING shitting on someone.

Instead of forgetting about us, not giving a shit about our existence, working hard and becoming better in what u like to do - u waste your time.
