Anyone squeamish should probably skip the next bit..

.

So at the minute I appear to have both a chest infection and an infected abscess, which is pretty disgusting if I do say so myself. The antibiotics for the latter were pretty tough the first day or two. Now the combination of shortness of breath, difficulty sleeping (due to cough & the abscess being on the back of my shoulder) and lack of energy has me feeling blurgh.

But the worst thing about being sick? My appetite has fucking disappeared. I love my food. Probably too much. I have several delicious bars of chocolate and Easter eggs in my cupboard and it's so frustrating because I don't even want them 😭

Anyway, I'm taking tomorrow (and probably Tuesday) off work. Which actually means I'll be doing bits and pieces of work at home, but hey ho.

It's funny, I saw it differently, but I think part of that is because of one clip that PJ didn't include. It's this one. I see Ringo as being extremely flirty and soft and loving in that clip. He seems to really care about MLH.

There's of course the moment where MLH says that he loves Ringo, and that they should get married. It's important to remember that Ringo responds with "I love you too." Also Ringo was REALLY against Libya, he only finally said yes because Michael begged him sweetly. I don't think he would have said yes if he felt nothing for Michael.

And finally, this was in a newspaper when Let It Be came out. It's an interview with Ringo from Melody Maker July 31, 1971

Ringo was exceptionally hurt that he wasn't in more of the film. And I don't think he talked to Michael after this.

The way I read it is that he and Michael had something special and he was really hurt thinking that Michael cared about Paul more.

And it's funny, watching Get Back, it seems like they were both pretty attracted to Paul and spent a lot of time staring at him together. That that was something that bonded them, but I guess, after everything, he didn't remember that in 1971.

So I hope that explains a bit about why I think that it was more than just an unrequited crush from Michael.

Spent a couple of days over the Christmas break helping to clear out my Mum's attic/loft. Quite a few boxes of my stuff from when I was a kid/teenager. After spending hours clearing/sorting out boxes upon boxes, the overwhelming feeling I'm left with is...

...How the fuck was I not diagnosed with something as a child? So much evidence of ADHD/ASD in those boxes, it's unreal. Explains a lot though.

MLH: The idea was they’d all be journalists working in a newspaper office but secretly one of them, Paul, was trying to write a paperback novel, and then it would be how they would help him or how they would not help him. But it would give us a setting of a newspaper office which I thought would be an interesting. So I suggested this to them which of course in those days would have been a very low tech newspaper office compared to what we have today. There still would have been typewriters and secretaries taking dictation or whatever. So I gave them the idea and they said, “Yeah, maybe, let’s think about it.” Then a couple of days later, which was probably about a week before the shoot, I got as phone call from NEMS, which was Brian Epstein’s company, saying quote unquote, “Mr. Epstein didn’t want anything unusual, just a video of the boys performing.” I suppose from his point of view, I guess they hadn’t been seen for a while. They hadn’t had any videos made since the ones that came along since “Help!” So I think he just thought it would be simpler and I’m not sure he wanted anything fancy or complicated; he just wanted to show them performing to the world., Brian was a nice man; he was interesting. He was quite a reserved, sort of reclusive person but he said no to that so that’s why we shot “Rain” and “Paperback Writer” the way we did.

It was Brian's fault. Everything bad about Paperback Writer was Brian's fault, not Michaels.
