I don't know if they'll be good or not, BUT, Michigan State University is offering a free "course" online over Zoom, "Adulting 101," where they present about various adult-life topics; finances, banking, relationships, cover letter and resume writing, traveling, cooking, jam making (??), voting, that kind of stuff. Might be worth sitting in on and seeing what they have to say.
Here's a link if you're interested in checking it out, the next class session is on Feb 12th.

Hello. for those of you who are unaware, I am a student at Michigan state university. if you've been keeping up with the news, you may know where this is going.
TW: Gun violence, death, shooting
at 8:18 pm on February 13th, shots were fired into a nearby building on campus. from that point on, we were on lockdown. I barricaded myself in my dorm room with my roommate and started reaching out to those I knew.
3 of my classmates lost their lives, and several more are injured. I will be putting updates here for what's going on around campus and any GoFundMes made to support the victims and/or their families.
Please. don't make this another statistic. that could've been me that lost my life. Please fight for me and my classmates. they deserve to be alive today.

Crazy to think that not even 2 hrs away from me, there is an active shooter on a college campus and I am just driving to work as usual. I ordered donuts for Valentine’s Day tomorrow, no doubt some of those other kids did, too. It was just supposed to be a normal day at college for them and now it’s turned into one of the worst days of their lives. Fuck this country and its love affair with guns and the fucking NRA.

Hello all,
It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I apologize for my sudden departure from this blog, which came following some massive changes in my life (both good and bad) that meant I didn’t have time for daily updates anymore, despite my desire to still post. I didn’t feel I could keep pace with this blog and as my last update became further and further away, I set this project aside, but I never forgot about it and all of you.
All of that being said, there was a mass shooting at my campus, Michigan State University, yesterday evening. Although I am an online graduate student, there are no words for the horror I felt seeing dozens of emergency emails come through and watching the videos of students running and endless streams of police officers showing up to my school.
There are no words for the fear that I felt for my classmates who were on campus.
I don’t personally know anyone who died or was injured in the shooting yesterday, but it was still my school, my classmates and we are all grieving and I am still in shock of what’s happened.
This being said, I’m revisiting this blog and, knowing the impact it's had on my life and the lives of others, I’m going to try to begin giving weekly updates on the epidemic of mass shootings in this country. Maybe one day I’ll figure out how to code auto-updating posts, but, for now, I still do not have the time or capacity to commit to daily updates on these tragedies.
Thank you to all of you who’ve sent me messages checking in. Your comments meant more than you’ll ever know.
I’ll update later this week updating everyone on 2023’s mass shooting metrics, but in the meantime, please join me and the rest of MSU in mourning our three classmates who passed away and the five who are in critical condition and keep their families in your thoughts and prayers

A Michigan state lawmaker released a furious statement in the wake of a shooting at Michigan State University that left three dead and five injured on Monday. “Fuck your thoughts and prayers,” said Ranjeev Puri, the Democratic Majority Whip in the Michigan House of Representatives, in a statement on his Twitter account. “What happened in East Lansing is unfortunately far too common. Going to school in America, whether it’s pre-school or college, means risking your life every day to the threat of a mass shooting. Yet all we have offered up are empty solutions—traumatizing active shooter drills and bulletproof backpacks. We do not need to live like this. The United States is the only country where this happens.” Puri’s statement goes on to point out that the attack in his state— after which the gunman is believed to have fatally shot himself—is the 67th mass shooting to take place around the U.S. so far in 2023. “Thoughts and prayers without action and change are meaningless,” Puri added.
The suspect who fatally shot three people at Michigan State University has been identified as Anthony McRae, authorities said at a news conference Tuesday morning. Five others remain in critical condition after the 43-year-old’s alleged rampage at the campus in East Lansing on Monday night. All of the victims were confirmed to be students. Police said he had no apparent connection to the university, and the motive remains unclear. McRae was previously sentenced to 18 months behind bars in November 2019 after he was convicted of possessing a loaded firearm in a vehicle, court records show. He was released from supervision in May 2021.
