With the month of October coming to a close, we’d like to highlight an Artist who made a significant dent when his music crossed over to the International market. A man who didn’t stick to one style, and earned a number of hits along the way. He recently celebrated his 40th birthday, and his name is Gyptian. On today’s Oldies Sunday, we look back at his debut single, “Serious Times“. Produced by…

Two drawings i did in june / july of 2023 of the Frostcup x His Dark Materials AU
I was supposed to post like other 2 drawings + sketches alongside these but got frustrated with the light ksadjkajd i still have the clip file just in case i decide to try again. A little bit of confusing info under the cut vvv
In this AU Jack and his sister are from a world where the human soul takes the form of an animal (daemon). A daemon can change form into any kind of animal when you are a kid. It' s final form gets settled when you grow up. Jack's daemon name is Ventisca, and his sister's is Mito.
This AU is Jack who is in Jordan Colleague working in the kitchens to provide for his family until he hears about children going missing and then the news of the disappearance of his sister and joins the gyptians to search for them.
In his search he encounters Hiccup, a soon to be scholar who is researching the dragons and their culture. If you watched the series or read the books, let's say that the dragons are like the armored bears. They soon team up to find jack's sister and find out what is going on.
She got kidnapped with many other children to be used in experiments about the relationship between humans and daemons. She is almost in the role of Lyra from the books. She also is the one to get the alethiomether.
I'm checking my obsidian folders and most of my notes are more of Jack's sister story than Hiccup and Jack *cries*

Okay.. I had this idea in my head and I thought it was so hot!
Paul and reader in a club with the pack and they’re having fun and dancing and shit and the two of them are on a couch in a dark corner, she’s straddling his lap, grinding on him to the music (I was listening to wine slow - gyptian) and they’re making out and touching each other all over.
Please 😩
PLEASE😮‍💨
...
"such a good girl," paul murmured as you ground your hips down against his, letting out a low groan at the action. he tightened his grip on your hips, tugging you down so you were forced to roll your hips against the bulge in his sweatpants for a bit longer, a smirk on his face as you let out a soft whine at the pleasurable action.
"paul-" you whimpered, voice catching as you slid your hands up his clothed chest, fists tightening on his t-shirt as he slid one hand down to teasingly brush his thumb over your jean shorts, the touch combined with the fabric of your jeans stimulating your clit just enough to have you whining underneath him.
"that's my girl," he mused, sliding his other hand up your back to knot his fingers in your hair, tugging you down to kiss him. you were quick to melt into his touch, lips moving against each other sensually as you slid your hands up his chest to wrap around his neck, effectively anchoring him against you.
"paul-" you whimpered as he parted from your lips momentarily to let you catch your breath. he just let out a breathy chuckle, sliding his free hand up to your breast, teasingly rolling his thumb over your covered nipple.
you let out a low whine at the action, closing your eyes and dropping your head back as you processed the pleasure and frustration you felt from not being able to do much more than what you were currently doing.
paul leaned forward, peppering your neck and collarbone with sloppy kisses, pausing with each kiss just long enough to leave a trail of hickies across your neck, marking you as his. you ground your hips down against his again, both of you letting out low moans at the action, "paul-" you whined his name again, threading your fingers through his short hair as he lifted his head to look at you, a teasing smirk covering his features.
"can't wait?" he asked teasingly, letting out a breathy chuckle when you nodded eagerly, anxiously gnawing at your lower lip as you waited for him to continue.
he leaned in, lips barely brushing against your ear as he murmured, "go into the bathroom, yea? i'll meet you there in a minute."

Asriel x Lyra via Chapter 4 of Trials (and errors) fic because I'm having feelings now 💛
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mercury. Lead. Cadmium. Aluminium. Any type of hazardous metals, Asriel is used to handling in his laboratory with according tools and protection, but when a tiny bundle nestles on the crook of his arm, he suddenly feels stupefied. What to do. How to hold it. How, for heaven’s sake, to not harm it?
Afraid of breathing the wrong way, he walks to the stairs. Thinks. Properly, carefully. Then sits on the lower steps, all the way making sure not to press the baby too hard, not to bump the head, not to… a billion other not-tos.
The tiniest face he’s ever seen wrinkles in sleep, and Asriel understands why it’s called ‘falling in love’. It is a fall. His heart plunges down toward something so entirely new, it’s torturing, yet rewarding at the same time. He felt it with Marisa but this, this is different. He stares at his daughter’s face with awe written all over his.
‘Won’t you introduce us?’ He’s oblivious to his own daemon approaching. Stelmaria rubs at his shoulder, her impressive might turned delicate, affectionate. Amber eyes find the baby. She gives the blanket a couple of sniffs and grumbles with content, tail slowly passing from side to side. Asriel feels holy.
‘Stelmaria, this is Lyra,’ he whispers proudly, stunned at the sheer strangeness of the words he never thought he’d use in a combination until he does. ‘My child.’
And then again, ‘My child.’ Like he’s perpetually amused by it. His chest shakes with a stifled laughter of joy.
The baby’s eyes aren’t fully closed, so he thinks he might need to ask Ma Costa if that’s alright. She’ll know. Still, the child appears happy in her slumber. His child, sleeping in his arms. Under her eyelids, a shard of blue. Gyptians say, everybody’s born with blue eyes, sky eyes, and only when spirits finish weaving the threads of one’s life here on earth, do they acquire their true color. What a bunch of nonsense. His child, Asriel knows, will have the bluest eyes forever, even when she’s all grown up. Because she’s theirs, Marisa’s and his.
A little mousy thing climbs from under the fold, yawning and squealing. Perhaps, it’s too hot there. The tiny daemon doesn’t even fully wake, slumping right back on his daughter’s chest and dreaming their little dreams.
‘Won’t you introduce us?’ Asriel turns to Stelmaria, echoing the question. The leopard comes to lick the mouse, her tongue as long as his whole body. A kiss of love, though she’s careful enough not to touch the baby. Small paws catch at the fur on her chin. She licks the daemon again, unmistakably pleased.
‘Feisty,’ she says with quiet fondness before resting a head on her human’s shoulder. ‘Asriel, this is Pantalaimon.’
‘Pantalaimon,’ the name settles over the little thing. Both little things. ‘Lyra and Pantalaimon.’
He sighs, content, amused. In love.
‘My child. My child.’

Sean Paul has been running reggae and dancehall since the early 2000s, charting with hits like “Get Busy” and “Temperature” while solidifying his spot as one of the best artists of his era. After numerous accomplishments like winning a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album and an American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, the renowned hitmaker continues to create bodies of work for the world to enjoy.
In a conversation with REVOLT, Sean Paul spoke about his love for dancehall and reggae, and how today’s artists can show respect to the genres. The Kingston, Jamaica native also talked in depth about his relationship with Beenie Man and reigning together as the top dancehall artists.
Check out the exclusive Black Music Month chat below.
What do you think about the current era of reggae and dancehall? Which artists are doing a good job of carrying the genres?
I’m very proud of the genre and the many influences it has had on many different forms of popular music, and popular names who do utilize it – from reggaeton to Afrobeats, as it lives on in those people and genres as well, not just the people from Jamaica. It’s bigger than us now, which is sometimes a bit nerve-racking or overwhelming. But at the same time, there are some players who are hot right now like Skillibeng and Skeng. Also, the ladies are doing their thing right now like Jada Kingdom, Stalk Ashley, and Shenseea. I’m happy to be a part of it, and I’m loving the vibe of the young kids doing their thing.
How would you describe your relationship with dancehall and reggae?
It’s a very big part of my life, my self-expression, my ego, and my day-to-day thoughts. As a kid, we didn’t have circuses or Nintendo to play – we had football on the road, cricket, and songs. It’s one of Jamaica’s best pastimes, so for us, it’s a part of our DNA. Similar to people in Middle America who have country and Westerns that explain their ways, or hip hop music for somebody who comes from The Bronx. That form of expression with hip hop, dancehall, and Afrobeats is us telling the world who we are.
How have you been able to maintain your connection to these two genres while also tapping into the pop world and exploring other musical stylings?
Even though I have hit songs that are more pop-oriented or a hybrid of what dancehall’s hardcore elements are, I’ll never say I’m not a dancehall artist. I’ll always look for the hot riddims that are out there and listen to what the culture is saying whether I like it or not. As someone who has accomplished so much for the genre and myself, I would say my word counts and [it holds] more weight now. My opinion, even if I don’t put out songs every year, is taking part in the culture while shaping it as well.
Is there a dancehall/reggae artist you still want to work with?
Last year, I released an album called Life We Living, where I collaborated with 19 different dancehall and reggae artists from the old school and new school – it was a wishlist I had. Me and Gyptian have always talked about doing a song and we’ve done demos together, so that’s one I’ll lean to say I would love to collaborate with. Also, I would say Stalk Ashley as well.
Some artists have been met with scrutiny after dabbling in dancehall. What’s the best way creators can show love to the genre without appropriating it?
I think just the mere fact they put out singles and don’t say this is my dancehall single – they have the upperhand, while we have the influential soup we serve to everybody. We are the net that holds a lot of the popular music together. Coming here to work with some of our legendary producers is a way to do so and also saying, “This isn’t my latest single” because younger people who are 12 years old only knew “Baby Shark” about four or five years ago — they didn’t really know in-depth about music from artists. They hear a new song by an artist and it’s dance-oriented — the kids will say, “This is innovative” and receive it like it’s new. If I put out a country and Western album and say, “This is my latest music,” but I do dancehall and reggae, I think Willie Nelson would call it silly for you to be saying that’s dancehall music. Maybe they won’t be as petty as me or maybe they will say, “This guy thinks he’s doing his own version of the music, but it’s really ours.” I have a very small and weakly respected genre to represent, and I want to fly the flag as best as I can, and be a defender of the culture.
You and Beenie Man were holding down reggae and dancehall during the 2000s and even collaborated. What was that reign like?
[Beenie Man] and I have done many songs that didn’t get released – the last song with me and him came out in 2015. As dancehall artists, we record a lot of music, and some of them hit in certain areas while some hit all over the world. It’s a living, evolving relationship that you have with these producers and artists. Beenie Man is a consummate performer and a legend out here performing for people at 9 years old. There’s been times where he was heavily booed and has now become the king of the space.
Tell us about your Captain Morgan campaign for Vita Coco Spiked and why the collab was a good fit for you.
I’m always down for collabs and this one seemed like a great fit because it tastes good (laughs). The thing in Jamaica has been “The rum is something to sample,” so while I’m used to it, mixing it up with coconut water is something people don’t know about. When we have beach parties in Jamaica, and you’re drinking the rum, but the sun is dealing you, having a Vita Coco is essential. I’m loving the vibe of it.

With You in My Heart I Can Bear Everything.
Tumblr media
Born among the Gyptian families who sail the seas to a sailor and a witch during an upheaval: he was out of place right from the start. Before the boy was even properly named, his mother gathered him and fled from the conflict at the coasts, seeking refuge among family friends who had long lived in the narrowboats that ran the channels of Brytain. His father remained tethered to the sea, unable to join them by a matter of both obligation and honor. To break would send others to ill fates, and leave him a cursed and ruined man, so there he remained.
Henry's home became Eastern Anglia, where his mother made her home on the fens among men. Though she lived well there, and kept their laws, she kept her own way, too. Henry, therefore, was raised on a mix of Gyptain way and Witch's view. As result, he's always had a foot in more than one camp, so to speak. He doesn't lend to tradition very well at all, and loves nothing so much as to question the order of things so that he might decide if he finds that order adoptable or folly. And he does so love to collect. Histories and myths, legends and lore, all of it. A scholar of the fabricated, if you like. He seems rather fond of the idea. It was that, maybe, and the wilder, witchier aspects of his nature, that led him on to be a traveler more than a tradesman, though the two fit neatly hand in hand.
Near his twentieth birthday, something in him changed. [I'm still torn on the exact nature of this part, but either it was a conflict related to his family history, or he came upsettingly close to intercision via The Maystadt Process. Or maybe those were the same thing, and it's both. Regardless, he goes away from it a bit...haunted.] At any rate, he's a known purveyor of maps and charts, sometimes rare artifacts and difficult-to-obtain goods. Anything with a good adventure in it is like to draw his eye.
Tumblr media
On the matter of his dæmon, her first shape was a wild cat's fiercely mewling kitten, amber colored and audacious. She was named Elektryona a full week before the boy's mother settled on the name Henry.
In early youth she was wildly unsettled, fluttering easily between shapes borrowed from the adults he knew (birds and badgers, wolves and weasels) while of her own accord falling often into the shapes of marine mammals (otters, dolphins, sea lions, once -briefly- a great wallowing walrus) and an assortment of canines (scrappy terrier to mischievous coyote to enormously silly great dane all included.) Cats and bats and strange little lemurs made appearances, too; anything to get them to the roots of their questions or helpful in the aim of exploring someplace as thoroughly as was entirely possible. The only holding thing seemed to be that reptiles and bugs were out of the question- any whim was fair, so long as it had fur or feathers. Scales and chitin simply would not do. As Henry's knack for collecting and recounting stories emerged, Lektra took on a habit of adopting on the forms of fictional beasts that appeared within them. She'd hold these to accent the story or enact a prank, but never any longer than that. Of these, she seemed to prefer the chimera, albeit a chimera the size of a large dog. (Tragically, too small for riding.)   Once, after an accident in which Henry nearly drowned, she became a common mouse and kept the shape for weeks on end, hiding in his pockets and under his shirt, curling up against his collarbones. Then one day, for no obvious reason, wasn't a mouse anymore, and she never again took a shape any smaller than a wiggly lap-sized terrier. Soon after, she was more and more a sweet, sleek hunting dog, and hardly changing at all. She fully settled -somewhat early- in their eleventh year of life, comfortably a fine golden retriever with a warm reddish-golden coat and open, friendly face.
Lektra is always playful and warm, but, too, fiercely protective, somewhat rowdy, & sometimes entirely unpredictable. She tends to be more willing than the average dæmon to speak to others directly, and does so with a confidence that defies every reproach. Truly, Elektryona and Henry are cut entirely from the same cloth. Their greatest difference seems to be that she learned a little better than him when to keep her tongue and take her time, and so often acts as Henry's voice of measured action, pulling him out of impulse with a poke of her nose. Excitable as she is, though, when they leap for trouble it's very often in tandem.
Her voice claim is (Lily J.ames.)

Final rant about His Dark Materials (for now). There were some weird choices regarding race in the first 2 eps of series 3.
1. King Ogunwe is no longer a king. Now he’s a commander, a leader of a rebellion against oppressive religious forces. Which, sure, makes sense in plot-wise (though I found the Ogunwe who said “I am a king, but it is my privilege to fight for a world where there are no kings” much more interesting and original). But taking the Doyleist perspective... They just took a black man and transformed his character from a proud, powerful King who was so committed to bringing about a better world that he took up a fight that didn’t really directly benefit him... and made him something akin to a slave leading a rebellion. I know that’s an inflammatory and dramatic way of describing the tv show character, and it’s not 100% accurate, but... it’s not far off. He’s still a powerful leader with or without Asriel, he still becomes Asriel’s top general, he’s still a thoughtful and intelligent and commanding character. But that change still seems like a shame.
2. Ama’s a blonde white girl now? The book has Mrs. Coulter take Lyra to essentially the Himalayas, where Lyra’s helped by an enterprising young Nepali (~ish, the world-to-world comparisons aren’t perfect) girl. Why move that part of the story to Germany? Why make Ama a white kid? This change I dislike because it’s part of a bigger issue I have with the show, namely that the world seems small. Considering that this show traverses not only the entirety of Lyra’s world, but also a lot of other worlds too, the scope feels remarkably small in this telling. Everyone (~) speaks with the same accent. Gyptians speak like Oxford scholars speak like ice bears speak like magisterium folks. Ama was a chance for the show to expand properly. To give us a kid who clearly isn’t from the same world as Lyra. To give us a different language and a different culture. So while I thought making her deaf and using sign language was a cool idea, the barriers between her and Will were so easily overcome - there was some interpreting by Balthamos, but also she clearly understood English and could lip read what Will was saying. The loss of the racial, cultural, and (complete) linguistic differences and/or barriers let the world of the show just keep shrinking ever smaller.

Northern Navigators
Tumblr media
To say that Lyra was excited for the Gyptian’s arrival in Trollesund would be the understatement of the century. They were getting closer and closer to the north with each passing day! And also getting closer to finding Rodger! Lyra was overjoyed! The town beyond Maggie’s boat held any number of surprises and she and Pan were bursting to find it out.
                                                                ~
“You’ve already looked at it from that direction.” the daemon said, attempting to move the paper in his human’s hands a different direction.
“Alright! Hey!” the woman said, moving the large piece out of the way.
The two of them made a strange pair, sort of. The woman had a large backpack strapped to her back, seemingly loaded down with all manners of previsions. She might as well have worn a sign that said, ‘I am not from here.’ That, and the fact that her daemon was probably one of the largest most of the people in Trollesund were used to seeing. A reindeer, regardless of proximity to the north, was going to stand out. Neither of them really seemed to mind though, focused more on the map in the woman’s hands.
“I’m not deliberately taking a long time, you know that right?” the woman asked, “I’m trying to get my bearings here.”
“And you’ve been doing that for about ten minutes.”
“It would be a lot easier if the map was labeled.”
“Sure” the reindeer chuckled.
“Hush you” the woman chuckled back. Then she went back to cross referencing.
It was then, that a little girl walked near them. “What are you doing?” she asked.
The woman with curly brown hair pulled the map down away from her face. She had a brown coat wrapped around her waist, no doubt to be worn when it got colder (not that it was really warm at all now). She had sensible brown trousers and sturdy looking boots along with an evergreen button shirt with the sleeves rolled up past her elbows and a pair of brown suspenders. She looked every inch an adventurer.
“Well,” the woman said, answer the short haired blonde girl, “I’m supposed to be reading this map.”
The reindeer beside her made a snorting sound, she looked over and smirked at him momentarily.
“But,” she said back to the girl, “It doesn’t have any words on it.”
“That’s silly” the girl responded.
“A little, but it just takes a bit of time. You just have to know what you’re looking for.”
The reindeer daemon nudged her shoulder with his snout, carefully avoiding her with his antlers. Fine, the gesture said, I’ll concede, you win.
“If you don’t mind me asking, darling. What are you doing all the way out here by yourself?” the woman asked.
“I’m not alone,” she said, pointing to two men talking quietly to themselves beyond her, “I’m traveling with some Gyptians. We’re searching for their missing children.”
“Well,” the woman said, frowning, “I sure hope you find them... what’s your name?”
“Lyra, and this is Pan.” Lyra gestured down to wear a small white ermine wiggling his nose at her.
“Pleasure to meet you Lyra. Pan.”
“What’s your name?” Lyra asked.
“Libby. Libby Lancaster. And this is Elliot.”
The reindeer smiled as best as he could, bowing his head to Lyra and Pan.
“He’s the biggest daemon I’ve ever seen. I didn’t know they settled as animals that big” Lyra said.
“He always liked animals about this size growing up,” Libby mused, “I suppose that says something about me, doesn’t it?”
Libby folded up the map and crouched a little, getting eye level with Lyra. “You know,” she whispered, “My mum always told me that it was because I have a bigger personality. I’ve come to believe that’s true. If Pan settles like Elliot here did, Lyra, people are going to have some things to say about you. I’m telling you, don’t listen to word any of them say. You should never feel ashamed for you who you are. If they want you to be less, that’s their problem.”
The two ladies shared a smile before Lyra’s name was called. The men she was with motioned for her to join them and Lyra nodded, quickly turning to Libby.
“Good luck with your map, maybe we’ll see you on our journey!” she said.
“Maybe! Good luck finding your friends, hopefully we do see you around. You could introduce us.”
With that, Lyra ran off to join her adults, leaving Libby and Elliot smiling after her. Libby leaned back, resting herself on Elliot as she looked up at his face.
“What a nice little girl” she said.
“I hope we do see her again, she seems like fun” Elliot agreed. Libby smiled with a laugh, before unfolding the map again.
“Now where were we?”
Little did the two navigators know, they would be seeing Lyra again very soon.

He wanted her to mother the baby. She could tell.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to necessarily. But every time she was near the babe it felt as if she didn’t know what to do. Marisa wasn’t used to not knowing and the more frustrated she got, the harder it all became.
Asriel just didn’t understand.
He didn’t spend any time with the babe; other than making sure she was happy and fed - by the gyptian woman that looked after her. He didn’t even do the feeding itself. Yet, whenever Marisa was there, he all but forced her to tend to the babe. She didn’t come here, to the Belacqua estate to be a mother.
Still though, she was drawn to the little thing. Lyra, though she rarely thought of the baby by name, was a cute squirmy little thing. She had grown in the three months since she’d entered the world and now she looked even more like Asriel than she had in the beginning. To Marisa, the babe looked like a perfect copy of her father.
Looking down at Lyra now, her little face red and squalling in discontent, Marisa felt the panic start to swell inside her. The Golden Monkey clutched at the crib bars in agitation. She scowled at him as she reached in to pick up the child. Lyra wiggled and squirmed, her little mouth opening wide as she cried, the sound getting louder and louder.
Marisa frowned, eyes wide as she tried to rock the child as she’d seen the gyptian woman do. Except, unlike the woman, she couldn’t seem to calm Lyra down. Her hands tightened as they held onto the baby, the urge to shake her into quietness welling up in her. But it only made Lyra cry more and harder - Asriel had dismissed the woman for the evening and now he was nowhere to be found either.
The Golden Monkey opened his ugly little mouth to speak, whether to soothe or berate, Marisa did not know and she did not give him time to voice his words. Instead, she lashed out with her foot, to kick him squarely across the chin. They gasped and whimpered in tandem, the daemon scuttling away to cling to the door frame. She ignored him.
“Hush, hush,” she whispered desperately to the child. Yet, the baby did not quiet and Marisa’s grip tightened once again as it squirmed against her harder. She wanted to shake it, to cover it’s mouth and stop it’s incessant squalling. She shouldn’t though. She couldn’t it.
She felt squirmy herself then, her skin overheating and her breathing labored. She couldn’t do this; she couldn’t be some kind of mother figure to this girl that Asriel was so determined to keep. She should’ve dashed the baby’s head the moment she realized the thing looked like Asriel. Instead, sentiment had taken hold of her and she’d let Asriel spirit the thing away like some thief in the night.
And he was a thief, Asriel had stolen so much from her…
Marisa shook her head, words I can’t, I can’t whispered through stuttered breath as she dumped the babe back into its crib. She wasn’t gentle or careful and it only made the wailing louder. How Asriel couldn’t hear the atrocious thing was beyond her.
Her hands gripped the bar as she stared down at the baby she’d birthed, seeing nothing but the proof of her sins and the damage of her wicked little daemon. It disgusted her. She didn't want to be it's mother. The thought flittered enticingly through her mind then; she could still get rid of it, here and now. No one knew about the baby. It would be so easy to pick up the nursing cushion on the rocking chair and smother it.
Crib-death was common enough. No one would think anything of it. Except…
Except, Asriel would know. And he would never forgive her. But maybe she could live with his hate, if it meant this little thing didn’t tear her life apart.
“Marisa!” Asriel’s voice boomed down the hallway, straining to be heard over the crying. She barely looked up from the little thing as Stelmaria and her lover charged into the room. “For Authority’s sake, woman, calm her!” Asriel said before he stopped to take in Marisa for a moment. He frowned.
Stelmaria spoke then. Cautious and steady. “Asriel,” she warned. She lifted her majestic head to Marisa then. “You should go Marisa,” Stelmaria told the woman and Marisa nodded.
She stepped away from the crib quickly, eyes on Stelmaria as Asriel scooped their daughter up and began to calm her down. The babe’s cries lessening in the comfort of her fathers arms. It made Marisa sneer.
She didn’t want to be a mother. Not now, not like this.
“You wanted to keep it, Asriel. I will not see the child again. Understand?” Marisa told him plainly, voice low. She kept her eyes on Asriel’s, to make sure he understood and though he scowled at her, he did not say a thing.
Marisa turned her back then, on her lover and her child and strode out of the nursery. The Golden Monkey gave one last pleading look at the occupants of the room before scampering after her. She’d made her choice and nothing was going to change that now.

"don't chase the rabbit"
their visits weren't so often; perhaps maybe once a week or every other time when the small family work venture to the gyptian family. her father always standing so proud and serious around the other man, her mother usually off painting and drinking out of cleaned jars with the other woman. she can't remember their names, but she always thought the woman was so nice.
it was so long ago the memory feels faded, but now she recalls - this rather smaller boy that came with the couple, that seemed to stick to himself where her brothers didn't quite interact with him; they were all older, and didn't want to hang around with some kid.
except - she was closer around the same age as him. she remembers dashing through the grass to him, astrid as a lioness cub at her side as they approach. various colorations of various paints stain her attire, some patches in astrid's fur as though she had been helping her human in recent projects.
"you seemed really sad over here - you wanna come play? my mommy just got these pretty paints and crayons! we can draw something together!" there's enthusiasm in her tone in making a friend, a hand eagerly sticking out towards him as astrid smiles at his daemon, tail shifting back and forth more akin to a dog.

Prompt: "I know you still love me.." || His Dark Materials || Asriel x Jupiter
A/N: fuck.. I know this will cause a huge mess.. but I'll do it... Spoiler Jopari is alive in my fic.. so here I go..
Tumblr media
Asriel watched, as a familiar looking woman came in. her booted feet, and baggy clothes gave the impression she was definitely the gyptian woman from his past that he hadn't seen since leaving that world.
"well if it isn't the Gyptian woman, who use to love coming into my office or lab to learn?" he smirked as he slowly looked up to her face. she didn't look happy.
"Hello again, Asriel." she said, her tone was low, he smirked at that fact he still had an effect on the woman. there were only specific people who didn't call him 'Lord Asriel'. that would be Marisa Coulter, Marisa's sister, and this Gyptian woman named Jupiter. Jupiter was Ma costa's younger sister. "destroy anymore children lately?"
"now, wait a minute, that was one time..." he said, "i have found a new way of doing things."
"sure." she simply said and that was when he realized there was another person in the room with them.
"Who is this?" he asked, finally taking a look at the guy he just realized was holding hands with His Jupiter. Asriel's jaw tightened.
"Oh? you mean Jopari? i mean John Parry? he is my boyfriend, Asriel." she moved closer to Jopari and leaned into him, wrapping an arm around him and leaning up to kiss him. the sight of her with another man started to piss Asriel off.
Jopari smiled down at jupiter and glanced over at Asriel. he couldnt help the smirk that formed on his lips.
"I didn't realize you had any relation to Lord Asriel, Jupe, Darling." Jopari said.
"Our relationship has always been.... complicated." Jupiter said, looking back up at Jopari. "may i have a minute alone with him. to catch up?"
Tumblr media
Jopari kept his arm around her, glancing over at Asriel again. "you sure?" he asked and looked back at Jupiter.
"yes, love, I'll be right back out in a few moments. go check on Lyra and Will." she told him, and he nodded slowly, dipping his head down to purposely kiss her deeper, his fingers entangling in her hair and tugging, resulting in a small moan escaping her. Asriel's hands form fists, and Stelmaria rubs against his leg to calm him down.
Jopari then leaves, a bit of a smirk on his lips as he saw the reaction he got from Asriel at how Jupe responded to him. he could tell Asriel was jealous.
"Oh Asriel, you can't be acting like that now. you treated me with disrespect, i was just a way of getting your frustrations out. you never loved me, i know that now." Jupiter says. "and i never can forgive the crap you are pulling."
Asriel moved around the workbench and towards the Gyptian woman, she stepped back but could not go far, she was pressing her back against the wall now. Asriel tower over her and her breathe was shaky now.
"I know you still love me." he said in a husky low tone, with his head dipped down by her ear. Jupiter closed her eyes and gulped. it had been too long since she had seen this man now towering over her, she had forgotten just how much he effected her.
"maybe so, but you never claimed me, when you could have so many times. you could have shown me real love. but you never did." Jupiter tried to stay calm and stand her ground, but when she spoke those words, his hand shot out quicker than she ever expected and she let out a small noise that was a mix of a choke and a moan. her eyes rolled back and her hands gripped at his wrist.
"you are so easily effected by my touch, Jupe." he growled and used the nickname the other man had used for her. "you can't tell me I'm lying about that. just look at you, woman." he chuckled and let her throat go.
"you are mad, you have completely lost yourself." she said through the gasping. she knelt down to swing her leg around and trip him to make him land on his back. which he did. "i did love you, at one point. my body may react to you now still, but that doesn't mean you own me. Jopari makes me feel loved when he touches me. you? use to make me feel loved, but now i realize it was just lust. you never loved me." she stood from a kneeling position and looked down at Asriel. "goodbye asriel."

7 Point Story Structure Explained in 5 Minutes
Tumblr media
Hi there! Today we are doing a basic introduction to and breakdown of 7 Point Story Structure--all in ~5 minutes.
This is a great story structure to learn when you already know the basic, basic story structure:
Tumblr media
And are ready to go a little deeper, without doing a deep dive into more complex approaches like The Hero's Journey or Save the Cat! (Or other, more complicated renditions of 7 Point Story Structure.)
And a lot of best-selling writers stick to this structure alone.
It doesn't seem like anyone knows definitively where this structure originated. Some say here. Some say there. Dan Wells, a best-selling writer, is sort of famous for (and sometimes misattributed for having come up with) it, but he says he learned it from a role-playing guide book, but I've also seen it in other places. It's used a lot in screenwriting.
It's also worth noting that both Larry Brooks and K. M. Weiland use a rendition of this structure as well.
While some, like Wells, use the term "Plot Turn," others, like Brooks and Weiland, use the term "Plot Point." (You know how writing terms are--not regulated 🙄) So please note that they mean the same thing, should you listen to people talk about this structure. So let's get to it.
7 Point Story Structure
Hook --This is the starting of the story. It includes the setup, which grounds the audience. Who is this story about? Where is this story taking place? Everything you need before problems really take a turn.
Here, the protagonist will start in a state that is the opposite of where he ends up (typically). Plot Point 1 -- At Plot Point 1, something enters the story that challenges the established normal and leads the protagonist to go a new direction. This shifts the story from the Hook section and gets it on course to hit the Resolution at the end.
Pinch Point 1 -- A pinch point is what it sounds like. It's a key moment where the antagonistic forces apply pressure to ("pinch") the protagonist. It reveals to the audience that the antagonist is a legit force and foe. Typically, this pressure forces the protagonist to take further action. It forces her to step up and try to solve a problem. Midpoint -- The midpoint is the moment the protagonist decides to move from responding to acting. Since Plot Point 1, he's been responding to what's happening. Here, an event leads the protagonist to become more proactive at defeating the antagonist. This happens at the middle of the story. Pinch Point 2 -- Another pinch from antagonistic forces that is worse or more dangerous than the first. Now or eventually it leads to a moment where it feels like all is lost. Plot Point 2 -- This is the final turn to the end. Here, the protagonist gains something significant that will help with the climax. He rushes to defeat the antagonistic forces.
Resolution -- This is the climax of the story, where the protagonist achieves (or fails) in her goals. She usually ends the story in a state opposite of the Hook.
A Note on Ambiguity Concerning Plot Points 1 & 2
Story structure can be more complex than this (as I mentioned), and as a result, you may see places where Plot Point 1 and Plot Point 2 are defined a little differently by writers. For clarity, I'm going to break this down a touch further.
Plot Point 1 Ambiguity:
After the story's setup, something unexpected enters the picture that disrupts what's "normal." You may have heard this called the "inciting incident," a "catalyst," or the "Call to Adventure."
This moment eventually leads the protagonist to choose a new path forward.
In some cases, this happens back to back. Prim has her name called out, and almost immediately after, Katniss volunteers.
In other stories, there may be entire scenes between those moments. In The Hobbit, Gandalf comes and invites Bilbo to go on an adventure, but Bilbo doesn't actually choose to go on the adventure until quite a bit later.
I have heard some writers refer to the former as Plot Point 1, and others refer to the latter as Plot Point 1.
What matters is that you understand that something enters the story and disrupts the normal, which leads the protagonist to choose a new path forward. This may happen back to back, or it may be spread out.
In some approaches, Plot Point 1 is seen as the moment where the protagonist definitively moves away from the established normal--when there is no turning back--and begins the new journey into the main conflict.
Call them what you want, but understand these different moments.
Plot Point 2 Ambiguity:
Likewise, at the end of the middle, two things usually happen:
The protagonist has an "all is lost" moment, where after a big loss, it seems like there is no way they can succeed.
However, soon after this, they gain something that empowers them, and that allows them to move forward toward the climax.
Some writers call the former Plot Point 2, while others call the latter Plot Point 2.
What matters is that you understand that the protagonist suffers a painful loss before gaining something empowering (usually).
Example: His Dark Materials
Hook -- The story starts in Oxford, England, with Lyra who has a daemon named Pantalaimon. We are introduced to her world, which is a parallel of our own.
Plot Point 1 -- Mrs. Coulter arrives to take Lyra to live with her in London. After Roger is kidnapped, Lyra chooses to go with Mrs. Coulter, in the hopes she'll help her find Roger. (Worth noting is that Lyra is also given the alethiometer and told it was her uncle's)
Pinch Point 1 -- Lyra discovers that Mrs. Coulter is actually the head of the General Oblation Board (a group linked to Roger's kidnapping), so she runs away.
Midpoint -- After gaining more allies (Iorek and Lee Scoresby), Lyra and the Gyptians are now more proactive on their quest to rescue those kidnapped (and for Lyra to reunite with her uncle).
Pinch Point 2 -- Lyra is captured by villains and sent to go through intercision.
Plot Point 2 -- When it seems like Lyra has no escape from intercision, she is rescued by Mrs. Coulter, which then allows her to rescue the other children, including Roger, who accompanies her on her journey to find her "uncle" (she is empowered by freedom and an ally).
Resolution -- Lyra helps Iorek regain his place as rightful king. She takes the alethiometer to Lord Asriel (her "uncle"), who later uses Roger for an experiment that opens a gateway to another world, which Lyra chooses to go through.
Tumblr media
And that makes up our five-minute explanation.
If you want to see the pros and cons of this structure, continue on.
Strengths & Weaknesses of 7 Point Story Structure
One of the best things about 7 Point Story Structure is that is has clear moments that focus on the antagonist--the pinch points. This means it asks writers to consider what their antagonists are doing, which I think sort of gets clouded over in the other story structures. When stripped down to the essential basics (like here), this structure is straightforward and easy to identify. I mean, two of the terms get reused. Simple. But that leads me to what I consider are some of the problems. The term "Hook" is misleading, in my opinion, since not everything in that section is actually a hook. Writers are often told to begin "with a hook," which means an actual hook. Of course the Hook should have an actual hook (and multiple), but outside of this structure, nowhere else have I seen setup and exposition referred to with the word "hook." I think that makes it confusing, and it adds to the ambiguity of writing terms in the writing world.
Likewise, I think the term "Resolution" is problematic. Oh yeah, sure, there are other story structures that use that term to include the climax, but most I see these days, don't. I mean, I guess it makes sense, since much of the climax is about resolving problems, one after another, but I feel like it's misleading because it combines climax and falling action into one, and I feel like those are two very separate segments. And I think most of us today are taught that those are two different segments.
So overall, while it's a great structure to use, keep in mind it has ambiguity issues.
Other Story Structure Approaches
This is just one approach to story structure. However, in my opinion, all the structures actually overlap, more or less. In the future (likely months from now), I'll show how superimposing them will give you a more comprehensive and accurate view of structure--great for plotting, writing, revising and troubleshooting.

Sooooo...
Is anyone here a fan of His Dark Materials too? I've been re-reading the books in English lately, and man they're really my favorites. I also started watching the series and so far it's not bad! Which leads me to this...SPN HDM AU because I'm trash...
So Cas got an owl dæmon, and he's a high ranking member of the magisterium because of his family heritage. His whole world collapses when he discovers the atrocities they're doing and he ends up joining the Gyptians in their quest against the gobblers, or some shit like that. (You probably guess where this is going, Dean and Sam are Gyptians hehehe) Overall I just think I wanted to draw him in cool clothes with a dæmon hahaha (And I really enjoyed drawing that owl hehe tho idk what her name is) (For those not familiar with the HDM universe, there is several worlds but in the one we follow there's witches, talking intelligent bears, and the humans souls take an external form as an animal, called dæmon, always the opposite sex as the human. Dæmons can take any animal form until the human reaches puberty, then it settles on one form. (Man I really love this world) )
