I was tagged by @drawing-way-outside-the-lines, thank you very much!💖 I chose Roy for this tag. (I could write a novel about Roy's character evolution, but I don't think this tag was created for that purpose! All the same, I hope I can be forgiven if I go off on a few tangents.) Below is a screenshot from one of Roy's first appearances in my story, in June 2013.

Roy was introduced as Joël's best friend whom he had known from kindergarten, and was only ever meant as a secondary character, shamelessly dropped into the story to be Joël's sounding board and to help chart Joël's romantic challenges. But Roy was never going to be content with having a minor role! The first time it became apparent to me that he was girding his loins for a much bigger share of the limelight was the night he had one too many Pink Cougars at The Grind, and decided to strip down to his undies and dance on the tabletops.

It was also the same night he first met Anita:

After that, Roy more or less shared equal billing with Joël. He and Sonia's wedding was one of the highlights of Five Years Earlier, and still remains the most fabulous and immersive fun I have ever experienced since starting my Simblr.

As far as Roy's physical evolution goes, he was becoming noticeably more buff by January 2014, because he was working out 4 or 5 times a week to take his mind off he and Sonia's infertility woes. He also got a new skin, Ephemera's Fresh, that everyone was raving about at the time:

I loved how it made his body look, but I disliked the weird, waxy colouring it gave to his facial features:

The skin only lasted a few months before I went back to my previous default, Joedy’s Nephilim, which is still my default today.

(Roy and Sonia's infertility struggles also allowed Roy to show his vulnerable side, and hopefully added some depth and richness to his character. Up until then I had never written any chapters from Roy's POV, and I remember being very nervous about stepping into his shoes for the first time, because his personality type was so far removed from anyone I knew in real life! But it became so much easier once I could feel empathy towards him. It is upsetting for any male to be told he has a low sperm count, but for a self-described alpha-male like Roy it must have been devastating. But I think it also made him a lot more human and relateable.)

Okay, that's enough with the tangents! Here is what Roy looks like today:

His hair has never, ever changed, and his face hasn't been tweaked either apart from his famous scar. He has no tattoos. (He has lost a wedding ring, though!) So yeah, it's probably fair to say most of his evolution has been spiritual, emotional and psychological.

This was before decent eyebrows, before any type if replacement defaults and before I knew how to take proper pictures and let's face it, it's a CAS shot! Those are awful by definition... But I didn't know any better. James is 17 in this picture (and see, he's always been slightly cross-eyed)

James's next "profile picture" is taken in real time 2017. I'm sure there was one in the meantime, but I seem to have lost it.

Next is not a profile picture, but definitely evolution: James' tattoo!

This is James in June 05, after graduating high school. He's 20 years old in this picture and these were the times when he was really partying hard, sleeping around and acting smug (it's all an act, it's all a cover).

And my graphics weren't great in these days...

This is 2023 for me, and October 06 for James. He's 21 years old in this picture. Before the hairstyle change.

Growing his hair was something James wanted for a long time, but he always hesitated because his hair gets wavy when it's longer, and he's always been scared it would make him look too feminine. But I think it suits him. 😊

James wanted me to add this picture too, because this is his personal favourite. 😉

I've been tagged by both @heldhram and @eljeebee, thank you so much!

However, I'm not sure how to answer this tag because my screenshooting abilities have been pretty consistent throughout the years. Well at least, in my eyes? All my characters did was grow older. I don't use any sliders and I make a point never to ever tweak my Sims's physical appearance once they're born. Their hairstyle in particular becomes their signature that goes with them throughout their lives (the exception being Uli because he never does the same as everybody else!).

A few years ago, I did something similar for Nathaniel, like showing him at the various stages of his life. I don't really see the point of doing that with my current characters as they are all still quite young (or even haven't changed at all for the immortals).

Well, sure they are differences in screenshot quality since I started taking pics in 2012 but it depends more on updated graphics than on skills. I still rely on the same old techniques. ;) Honestly, I see absolutely no difference in the way I took my screenshots in, say, 2017 (random example here with teen Erik) and how they look now in 2024. Does this mean that I haven't improved? I'd say that my use of the game has reached its limit a long time ago. The only thing I can improve now is either the editing (bleah) or the writing itself. I chose to work on the latter. ;)

Sorry for the disappointing response but I think a direct comparison would have been even more disappointing!

OC Evolution Tag - Laverna Rosefist

Thank you @salemssimblr for the tag!!

Laverna is the oldest sim I still have access too, as well as the only one (or one of a very, very few) who has undergone major changes over the course of her sim-life. Her earliest version, from 2021, was made as a submission for a Baldur's Gate-inspired save that never ended up happening. Then in 2022, I revamped her as my first ever dnd character concept, giving her a true fantasy makeover. (This was after rescuing her files from where I'd shared them in 2021.) In 2023, she got an updated makeover, though I didn't change a ton, except for giving her the iconic black eyes and thief's outfit... (At some point, either in 2021 or 2023, I gave her a backstory revamp.) Her hair, skintone, tail, and nails have stayed the same across all versions, though.

Who else would I do but my favorite boy Gian? However I think he's particularly good for this because manz has gone through such an evolution.

-I made him in July 2019 for @colourfullsims big brother challenge, and Cam actually is responsible for his overall style and vibe! When i made him I was like 'eh he's elimination fodder' but as is common with my sims I send people- he became a fan fave lol. (And I think Cam takes most of the credit for that!!! She did such a fantastic job with him!!) -Upon losing big brother I decided to run a bachelor challenge for him, ~The Gianlerette~ era (idk if I'll ever top that as a reality tv show challenge tbh) And 1. he got so jacked like jfc and 2. he really embraced an eclectic style. -Since that ended he's my go to pretty boy to throw new CC on./ just rotate in CAS. He's just living his best life in the gianlerette save with dreama uwu

Hiiii we love to be unfashionably late to things, so here's that one oc evolution meme! Featuring OCs that are also alters that are also OCs (you understand). Without further ado...

Fritz [TS3+4 c.2017 -> TS4 2024]

Carter [TS3+4 c.2017 -> TS4 2024]

The ts3 ones are actually bases our partner did, iirc? These two are technically shared ocs between the two of us, but we're the one with the dorks in our head, so we get last say rights lol. I'm going to ramble under the cut about my thoughts on it! :D

I feel like, above all else, we've found a better middle-ground between cartoon-y and realistic sims! Especially with Carter's 2017 sims, he's almost uncanny, I'd say? The eyes feel weird to me at least, but with the 2024 one, I think we figured out how to make him look like he's running on 10 minutes of sleep and 5 coffees without making me worried about him enough to ask him about it pffff.

We keep having repeated phases in our art where we draw people with too much weight or the opposite and there's no middle ground, and that's getting kinda apparent here too, which surprises me! I'd say Fritz' 2017 TS4 sim is definitely not as fat as he should be, while Carter's is too chubby for how he really is? We're still working on hitting the mark for the 2024 ones (Fritz could go a little fatter still and Carter could go thinner), but I think we're getting at least to a point where it's more realistic proportioning! I hope at least, heh...

Also, most notably, we started being more deliberate in our cc, heh. I think the 2017 ts4 sims only have like... Carter's septum as CC (pre-werewolves rip) I think? And the CAS bg of course. The 2017 ts3 sims do use CC, but our partner just... sent us a zip of all the ones she used, so that doesn't really count pfff.
