April 4, 2024: Coyotes by the Eliot House, Glyn Maxwell
Coyotes by the Eliot House Glyn Maxwell
Tom I’ve a question and all I have is a question. There are lots of coyotes near this old house you lived in. I didn’t expect them here in the green Northeast. Figured them things of rocks and the high sierras. There goes another one bounding for the bushes. First time, I thought: that’s a dog acting really strangely. But it didn’t turn back for approval or get distracted by an insignificant thing, as a dog will tend to. No it was gone by now, it had made me nervous. They’re the size of a family dog but they’re on their own. Folks round here reassure me there’s no danger unless you attack their cubs so I’ll shelve my plan to attack their cubs, chrissakes. Tom, Tom, apologies, I have loved my time in your house.
Last night at dinner we heard a siren wailing off in the town and all of them started howling, all the coyotes for miles around in the bushes aghast, alerting their young, alarming their old, rising and heightening, matching its pitch and power, one near the blue spinning light in its thrall, uniquely bound by this unpredicted visitation. Then after the siren faded they packed it in. What do they think that is, that demands of them and gets of them their love or their terror or both? What do we poets do when we know it’s nothing? Not for them or against them or about them. Tom, I had to be here to ask that question. I expect I’ll have to be gone before you answer.

💀 gimme your finest frights hc's please
When someone actually asks abt my FazFright HCs:
Tumblr media
Okayyy soo, idk where to start but let's go! (this took me like 3 fucking days)
-AU takes place in like 2012-2013 but sometimes there will be stuff from like 2014-2017(or even later) in there
-Umm so first I took insperation from your hurricane paranormal society thing so most of my Fazbear Frights are in some group/organization to discuss "weird" things that they've seen, heard or that have happend to them, Greg is the founder(?) ig, cause he started it some little blog thing and ppl started adding their own stories, so it basically became some online group thing, then they started meeting up irl
-Order that people joined in: Sarah, Oscar, Isaac, Raj, Millie, Reed, Toby, Tabitha, Pete, Julius, Devon, Kelsey and Oswald
-Greg Chapman is Native Hawaiian/Polynesian, he was born December 16th, 1997 and is 15yrs old,
He has a tan/brown skin tone like Carmen ltran (@carmenltran)’s,
complete heterochromia (left eye: blue, right eye: brown) and hooded eyes,
somewhat thin lips (darker upper lip),
a downturned nose, curve starts at the dorsal bridge,
12inch, thin 2A, honey blonde hair, has a choppy wolf cut with shaggy bangs kinda style (he did it himself, or at least he tried❤️),
5’7, slender + he has a lot of freckles across his cheeks and nose and on his body
Has BDD, MDD, and ASD/Autism (Undiagnosed)
Knows some Hawaiian, primarily knows/speaks English
Likes artists like Brent Faiyaz, Steve Lacy, Kali Uchis, Gorillaz, Mother Mother, I Monster, Jack Stauber, Lemon Demon, Will Wood, Tally Hall, Roar, Surf Curse, The Cardigans, TV Girl, Alex G, Mitski, bôa, Caravan Palace, Glass Animals, The Stokes, Radiohead, Hot Freaks, Two Door Cinema Club, Foster The People, Tommy Newport, Cage The Elephant, Tame Impala, Mac DeMarco, Men I trust, Maya Hawke, Eyedress, Wham!, The Cure, The White Stripes, Tears For Fears, The Clash, Queen, October Country, Kate Bush, Sohodolls, The Dresden Dolls, The Crane Wives, Harry Nilsson, Grover Washington, Jr., Marvin Gaye, Gloria Gaynor, Earth, Wind & Fire, etc.
Greg was a nervous wreck when he started the group I mean people could think he was crazy and he was meeting new, random people on the internet + when they planned to meet up he had to come up some sort of excuse for his dad for why all of a sudden he'd constantly be leaving the house, he'd use Hadi and Cyril as an excuse most of the time (even if they weren't talking that much anymore and he was kinda avoiding them) since if he said he had other friends his dad would probably give him a whole interrogation
Contortionist
He got a bonsai tree to take care of, it’s sort of a distraction but he still enjoys it, most of what he does is a distraction anyway
Still does yoga before bed and also still really into science
He likes a lot of "girly" or "childish" things like MLP, dolls, etc.
Kinda isolates himself now so usually stays in his room watching Musicals, trying to get into new books, listening to music, doing random stuff on his laptop, etc
He got into paranormal/supernatural stuff like contacting the dead after the incident (he mostly did it because he wanted to “contact” Kimberly)
He thinks of the “Fazbear Frights” group as a safe place

She and Kelsey are close family "friends", kinda consider eachother cousins, mostly Kelsey, he'll call Millie's parents "Auntie" and "Uncle" and just stuff like that (Millie is very against it)
She's a Romantic Goth
Got into baking recently, asking Kelsey would help a bit since knows more about it but...
Got into drawing as well
Loves humming and singing out loud but almost never does it
Not sure why she ended up joining the group
Usually doing her own thing, has a bit of small talk with people like Sarah and Greg, talks to Tabitha(Hide and Seek) the most

Had pretty bad seperation anxiety with Mick

Voice HC: "Wybie" Wyborn Lovat (Robert Bailey Jr.), Can speak English and Spanish
Has ADHD (Undiagnosed)
His arm is almost completely healed (it was fractured) but there’s a huge, weird, bite mark looking scar on his right arm
Likes drawing, has had around 2 sketchbooks, first one was just an old, mostly empty notebook he found and his current one is a proper sketchbook that he begged his dad to get him, it’s black has a stickers on the outside, it’s mostly filled with sketches of his usual cartoonish drawings including the mechanical animals

After his Grandma died he ended up moving to Colorado, Kelsey babysitted him most of the time since his parents were out/busy, he still does it from time to time, with pay ofc
Was only brought to the group later because Kelsey was babysitting him and Devon insisted it was fine if they just brought him with
Talks to almost no one there, usually just the others being "friendly" because he's a kid, Kelsey just let's him play on his DSI since he understands why he wouldn't want to be here
-Sadly I don't have much to say abt Reed, Pete, Oscar, Isaac or Raj, it's been a while since I read their books, but moving on
Millie thinks Tabitha(H&S) is actually pretty (really) cool, she's really confident, talkative, friendly and, loud, but Millie dosen't mind that much, though she acts like she does (she def has a crush on her)
Millie and Oswald talk from time to time, mostly about their "spoiled" cats (they mean it in an affectionate way<3)
No one there is really close with Sarah, I mean there’s Dev maybe but she doesn’t want to make anything seem more than it is (I know this sounds like she has a crush or something but I mostly, mean in a platonic way, like she doesn’t want to make it seem as if they’re close friends when they’re less than that, I say mostly because I actually may make her have a “crush” on him for like comphet reasons) she's mostly just the sweet one and that's about it, she's a bit creeped out by Kelsey though, catches him staring a lot (y'know it's funny, usually she'd be honored if a cute boy was staring at her)
Julius restraining the urge to claw out Reed's eyes every group meet up<3
Julius also desperately needs a wheelchair (walking with crutches for such a long period of time gets tiring) but his parents can't exactly afford it
At group meetings Kelsey literally talks to no one BUT Devon (and well, Oswald) like I don't even mean he only has conversations with him I mean if he isn't talking to him he'll just be standing or wandering around looking lost and shit (he thinks the others seem nice but he can barely even make eye contact)
My AU's Kelsey isn't an entity or whatever he's just a weirdo and got into some concerning shit (kinda like Vanny basically) + Kelsey doesn't get lured into the suit, Dev was planning to but Kelsey got really apologetic and shit and it kinda made him feel like awkward and guilty, Dev was still kinda considering it but then Mick kinda interfered
Kelsey does go missing the same day he was supposed to die, Mick and Devon don't tell anyone about the fact that they were kinda the last people who were aware of his whereabouts, etc.
Either way Kelsey doesn't die (kinda) so that's the important thing
Kelsey has some weird mini Freddy Fazbear robot-doll thing that he keeps in his room, Dev says it's cool but Mick thinks it's, off(Yes, it's a Lonley Freddy, Yes, it's Alec)(when one of your 7-8th grade besties is trapped in some weird robot doll thing you have and you don't even know😋)

i think conflating disinformation with propaganda is in part to distract from the fact that propaganda is not even remotely partisan…lol but also. and i’m just gonna cram a lot of stuff into this post because i’ve been constantly thinking about it.
the 2016 election really destroyed a lot of people, not only conservatives, and it not only represented but further entrenched this mistrust and disbelief in your neighborhoods, in collective power, in democracy. it made a lot of people, not only extremists and republicans, more conservative. and partisanship got ridiculous. it was proof what we’re doing is not working and is actually quite terrible for most people. and instead of saying, okay these are the old strategies of strife and discord. blame it on the blacks, jewish people, immigrants, “terrorism,” the radicals, then blame it on asians and gay people and “woke culture” and whatever. like instead of saying, yeah this is the eisenhower playbook, the nixon playbook, the reagan playbook, the bush playbook (and the clinton playbook, and the roosevelt playbook, and the johnson playbook……even the obama playbook to an extent)…..we just created a new class of technocrats and talking heads and meaningless beltway politicking. we made new ways for people to make money off of strife…which made it worse….
meanwhile, our brains keep getting broken. like, how many people, no matter what has happened, will repeatedly - literally over and over and over and over and - say “this is why you should’ve voted for hillary! if only bernie sanders blah blah” so all of this is the left’s fault, which is also a very old playbook, but being used by people it does not actually benefit. like that was pretty meaningless in 2017, even, it’s certainly meaningless now. like, me personally? i didn’t vote for hillary. because i was fucking 17 years old. i convinced my mom to in the primary, but if i could go back in time i wouldn’t. but it doesn’t matter, anyway. i couldn’t vote, but i also live in texas. i believe every vote counts, absolutely, but i’m not stupid. it wouldn’t have mattered if i didn’t vote for either main party the presidential election in 2016 because texas was not turning blue, and if i DIDNT vote for trump or hillary, it would still be contributing to the erosion of republican dominance in texas, numbers wise. either way, it has no impact on the election. so, enough already. enough.
and i’m gonna keep going even though this post is too long already, but on that note. again, i just voted today in the primary runoffs. i left two slots blank because there was not enough of a difference between the candidates, but i voted and i vote in every election unless i am literally prevented from doing so (as i was in the democratic primary in 2020 because they didn’t send my mail in ballot until it was too late. i got it after the election was over 🙄). but i don’t see how it helps anyone to pretend like we don’t understand apathy among voters. like, for how many people, how common is it, that no matter who is in office, your life is largely the same? it is without a doubt true that this administration has done some good things already, some really fucking major things, yes. but some of those have already been undone. there are campaign promises they have already straight up broken (i thought we stood with immigrants?). but also, there is the fact that both parties DO have a vested interest in the status quo. they’re not the same, but they are both american political parties, in which most politicians are ridiculously wealthy and live lives completely out of touch with most americans’. and i understand why for many people it is so frustrating to be beat over the head with “vote blue no matter who” when they are not delivering, and too often not even trying. like, democrats are supposed to support abortion rights, and yet they are throwing their weight behind henry fucking cuellar in tx-28, who is avidly anti-abortion. and it’s because he’s an incumbent and they’re incumbents and thus they have a vested interest in opposing primary challengers. but what does that communicate about their position on abortion? that it’s less important than their personal power and influence. the tragedy that happened today…the fucking groundhog’s day of carnage in this country….i do believe the democratic party supports gun control, yes i do. but it is clear they don’t support it more than they do the status quo of governance because they are not willing to do whatever it takes to get it done. and shrugging at this and saying, well they don’t have the votes, this that or the other…come on. you and i know that is not going to cut it. it is not true that a party in charge of both congress and the presidency has no power to change the law…..it’s DIFFICULT. yeah. every fucking thing is. tell me one thing that comes easy? but they are not even choosing easy….they’re too often choosing nothing at all.
our government was not designed to produce radical change, but to suppress it. it was not designed to liberate the masses, but to suppress us. yes, this is true. none of that means we just pack up and go home. none of that makes voting worthless, that’s insane. nothing is an end all be all magic bullet. not even so-called revolution. but you have to believe in a strategy to be committed to it, believe in a candidate to vote for them, that’s a fair thing to demand. sometimes, you have to settle, yes. but arguing all voting is about settling is not true….and when you double down on trying to demonize ANY candidate that can inspire people, i question your commitment to democracy, i do.

One Big Poem Written Out in a Clinic Waiting Room 2023
Kerouacian sketches out of words & language An old couple mourning their son again; this waiting room horror is emotional constipation A preconceived dam burst Total agitated disaster The girl with green-blue hair down to her shoulders is collecting lost books (this is a library) The street today hasn’t taken kindly to strangers or people who own banks I like to just sit here, blank-eyed, and fade in a little invisible public corner Nobody’s going to care until closing time. Soft voiceless anger cut out of a single family home I was apartment dreaming Each scene was decorated wrong: ergo nightmare February is a cup of chopped garlic on Gabe’s kitchen table; it’s unseasonably warm There’s dust by the sink Why do I keep dreaming about her? He asked no one particular Composite reflexive action Staying awake long enough for the fireworks to scatter what’s left of our involvement in one unjust war to the next (amusement park mentality) And God, I’m tired of waiting for the bush outside to light up & send me on my way. Trembling kind of panic Sketchbooks filled up already It’s 2017 (let’s pretend) What’s the current ratio of friend weddings to friend funerals? (Cue arthritis jolt of pain & shock) Pulling over in present time Seeing the sky defenseless like always A scary sort of certitude, glaringly obvious in its relatability Hygiene section of a huge run-down store This is some other night This is some other state I’m going to be responding to strange mysterious anonymous signals in the public bathroom, Sharpie marks on slick disgusting tiled walls Parked somewhere nameless just to cry for a little bit The radio at 1/3 volume The sky an amnesiac blue.

White Velvet was inspired by a very specific weekend I spent working on the cabin with my dad. It was Valentine’s Day weekend, and there was a serious snow storm that was supposed to hit. My dad asked if I wanted to try roughing it and staying out at the cabin as a masochistic challenge. I figured I’d give it a shot. Since I was living at home and working remotely, I was spending a lot of money on various gorpcore pieces. For the uninitiated, this Grailed article provides the following definition: “Gorpcore—named after the colloquial term for trail mix (“Good Ol’ Raisins and Peanuts”)—is a style focused around wearing utilitarian, functional, outdoors-inspired gear.” I’d be lying if I denied that part of my motivation for working on the cabin in a snowstorm was to give me gorp credibility (I’ve worn my Arc’Teryx x Beams jacket in a snowstorm, I have the right to wear it walking around Soho!). That being said, the gear itself actually did protect me from the subzero wind chill as my dad and I hauled giant panels of plywood to close up the roof/walls of the cabin.
We closed in most of the cabin and covered any openings with foam insulation and tarp. Building a shelter and sleeping in it to protect from the elements was a special experience. Inside the cabin, it was still (literally) freezing; icicles formed on my eyelashes and my breath turned to ice on the walls of the tent, but we survived. As we drove home, everything was covered in white. It all looked so blank; the mountains that were typically shades of green or brown were completely devoid of color. The music I was listening to matched these feelings: the sounds are similar to Pinecore, but more abstract, more soft. Mazzy Star, The Microphones, and early Radiohead albums like Amnesiac were in constant rotation.
Around this time, I found my dad’s old cassettes. With nowhere to go and a lot of time at home, I often looked through and catalogued random old things I would find around the house. I was fascinated by cassettes as I was listening to a lot of ’80’s/’90’s music, and one of the most distinct memories I have was popping in a random tape of my dad’s and hearing R.E.M., Chris Isaak, even random old techno tracks. My dad never really talked about music, so finding a relic mixtape he made was special. Even more interesting, though, was finding my dad’s old answering machine tapes. Playing a mystery tape and hearing snippets of my dad’s friends, family, and previous partners’ messages from when he was my age was surreal, but connected me to him in a new way. I realized my dad really was my age once, with his own set of problems and relationships. In the same way my dad’s cassettes were so evocative of a specific point in his life, I hope this mix and all of the videos and photos I took during this period will be frozen in time too.

Boise State: 2022 Frisco Bowl Champions
Tumblr media
Why the Broncos won: Boise State trailed 10-6 at halftime, but the offense finally started clicking in the second half when the Broncos put the game in the hands of freshman running back Ashton Jeanty. The former star at nearby Lone Star High in Frisco, Texas, scored a 1-yard touchdown that gave the Broncos a 35-24 lead early in the fourth quarter, and he finished the game with a career-high 178 rushing yards. Quarterback Taylen Green added 119 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, and he found fellow redshirt freshman Eric McAlister on a 24-yard touchdown pass that put Boise State up 21-17 in the third quarter.
Main takeaway: Boise State didn’t end the season as Mountain West champions, but the Broncos are taking the Frisco Bowl trophy home after securing their first bowl win since 2017. The win caps a season that was circling the drain after four games. Boise State was 2-2 after a loss to major underdog UTEP in late September. Offensive coordinator Tim Plough was fired, and starting quarterback Hank Bachmeier decided to transfer.
Still, the Broncos found a way to rally around Green and 63-year-old interim offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter and win eight of their last 10 games. Boise State head coach Andy Avalos did an excellent job navigating a difficult season, and the Broncos’ players deserve a lot of credit for sticking together.
More than anything, Boise State’s turnaround season highlights just how bright the future is on The Blue. Running back George Holani has to decide if he’s going to test the waters in the NFL and the Broncos are going to have to replace a few starters on defense next season, but the sky isn’t falling. Green, Jeanty, McAlister and wide receivers Latrell Caples and Stefan Cobbs are all expected back next season.
Add to that a 2023 recruiting class led by offensive weapons Jambres Dubar and Franklyn Jonhson, and it looks like the pieces are in place to make new offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan’s return to his alma mater a memorable one.
Player of the game: Boise State was without Holani for most of the game. He left the game in the first quarter and didn’t return, and he finished with just seven touches. That left Jeanty to carry the load, but as has been the norm this season, he didn’t look like a freshman. He burst through the line for a 34-yard run on the Broncos’ first play of the second half, sparking a drive that ended with a touchdown run by Green. Jeanty moved the chains again with an 18-yard gain on the drive that ended with McAlister’s touchdown catch, and he finished the Frisco Bowl with a career-high 178 rushing yards on 28 carries. Stat of the game: Boise State scored just six points in the first half, but the Broncos put 22 points on the board in the third quarter. That’s more points than the Broncos had scored in a quarter of a bowl game in program history.
Play of the game: Boise State’s defense struggled to contain North Texas’ high-powered offense, but a turnover changed the complexion of the game. Redshirt freshman cornerback Jaylen Clark, playing because Kaonohi Kaniho was out with an injury, intercepted a pass early in the fourth quarter, setting up Jeanty’s touchdown run that gave the Broncos a two-possession lead with a little more than 12 minutes to play.
What’s next: Boise State’s season is over, but the Broncos are in for a hectic couple months before spring practice begins in early March.

Lana condor boyfriend
Tumblr media
Lana Condor wears a Reformation light blue satin mini dress with puff long sleeves (Credit: MEGA / WENN) It features a smock neck, long sleeves with puff shoulders, a ruched bodice, and paneling at the midsection that accentuated her tiny waist. Romney Doesn’t Think Cheney Has a Prayer
LOS ANGELES (OnlineColumnist.com), Aug. 20, 2022.--Beaten by a landslide of over 40% in her Aug. 15 Wyoming primary, Rep. Liz Cheney hinted in her concession speech that she would not leave the politics.  Cheney thinks her abysmal defeat helps her chances in to run for president in 2024.  Cheney told her depressed following that she would continue to work with the Jan. 6 House Select Committee to get Trump convicted of planning and orchestrating the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection.  Painting herself as a profile in courage going after former President Donald Trump, Cheney actually betrayed he constituents to launch a one-sided attack on former President Donald Trump.  Cheney could never explain why her entire political life was consumed with destroying Trump’s political career.  She thinks it’s her patriotic duty to keep Trump from running for president again, working in overdrive to keep him away from the White House. .
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Ut.), who ran as the GOP nominee against former President Barack Obama in 2012, found out its no easy feat running for president. While Romney despises Trump, he still recognizes the sway Trump has over the GOP.  Cheney has no sway other than her self-righteous mission to destroy Trump politically.  Romney recognizes that Trump as a force to be reckoned with in the Republican Party, not because he has any organizational pull but because he relates to ordinary blue collar white citizens, a lost constituency in today’s GOP.  Romney despises Trump, did everything possible with other never-Trumpers to prevent him from becoming president.  Romney figured out that Trump was a masterful retail politician, capable to winning over big crowds with his attacks on the media and the GOP political establishment.  Trump won against all odds in the 2016 election going against former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Cheney was a non-entity when she came into the House Jan.3, 2017, right before Trump was inaugurated Jan. 20, 2017.  What she knew about Trump was that her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, despised him for his stated opposition to the Iraq War.  Trump confronted the conventional wisdom in the GOP that former President George W. Bush did the right thing invading Iraq March 20, 2003.  Trump’s 2016 shattered all the GOP complicity in the Iraq War, costing the U.S. trillions in tax dollars and 4,431 U.S. lives.  Trump confronted the Bush family for defending the Iraq War, making an enemy out of Dick Cheney, and, of course, his daughter.  Liz can’t exactly say why she despised Trump’s presidency since it brought the country economic growth at home and solid foreign relations, especially with American’s enemies, Russia, China, Iran and North Korea.
No, for Cheney she drank all the Democrat Cool-Aid that Trump planned and orchestrated the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection to stop certification of the 2020 Electoral vote.  Instead of letting the House Select Committee play out, Cheney took a co-leadership role in conducting the hearings heavily biased against Trump.  Once Cheney lost her post in the GOP leadership post May 12, 2021, she sought any leadership position available with the largely Democrat Jan. 6 House Select Committee infuriating not only Trump supporters but the vast majority of the Party.  Cheney was no patriot or hero, she allowed her obsession with Trump to get the better or her, actually destroy her political career.  At the end of the day, Cheney, not Trump, destroyed he political career, tone deaf to any sense of Party loyalty, while he continued her vendetta against Trump for some unknown reason.
How could any Republican, seeing the damage inflicted on the economy and foreign policy by 79-year-old President Joe Biden, not recognize that life under Trump was far better than under Biden.  Democrats and the media conspired to trash Trump for the Covid-19 global pandemic, as if Trump had anything to do with Communist China infecting the U.S. population.  Cheney adopted all the Democrats political hacks like Washington Post report Bob Woodward, who’s 2020 book, “Rage,” blamed Trump for not doing enough to stop the global pandemic.  With Woodward’s help, Trump was butchered in the press for the Covid-19 pandemic, especially from the economic fallout from shutting down the economy on the orders of Dr. Anthony Fauci, and other members of the White House Covid-19 team.  Catastrophic damage was done to the economy, something Democrats exploited in 2020 election.
Romney thinks Cheney should take some time to think about her future largely in the Democrat Party, since she’s burned all her bridges in the GOP.  Cheney for some unknown reason decided to take on Trump, one of the most irrational political choices in U.S. history.  Romney recognizes that Cheney doesn’t have a prayer in running as a GOP candidate, after losing her primary to neophyte Harriet Hageman by 40%.  Wyoming’s vote against Cheney was a long-overdue, watching her disgrace the state’s GOP for some time without any way of paying her back.  “I don’t think someone who is seen outside the Trump circle would have any realistic chance of becoming the nominee in 2024, barring something I can’t foresee at this stage,” Romney said about Cheney’s prospects in 2024.  Cheney wrecked her political career because her irrational obsession with Trump consumed her politics.

#20 Decembrance 2021
I walked through the trees this afternoon looking for nests in the bare branches. For understanding the vulnerability I was feeling I wanted to find clues in the twigs nestled and woven in-between branches. I found a nest high up in a forsythia bush mostly made of broken twigs, but also a few pieces of brown tarp. The mix of natural and human ingredients raises questions about how I have come to make my nest in Virginia.
I have collected bird’s nests for many years because I find their construction inspirational. The use of found materials whether it’s horsehair, newsprint, or blue tarp continue to fascinate. No matter if it is moss or twigs the collage instructs me about the structure of my life. I love this house and the pandemic has driven it home more clearly how my intuition and Warren’s engineering have been woven together to make a life.
For so many years I felt lucky to have the fixed orb of my parents’ loft in New York City, a nest where I could land at a moments notice. Omen was so close, only a block away. I could arrive like a bird and settle down into the protective artistic shelter of my parents soulful home. I could walk a couple of blocks and dip into the contrasting heartbeat of city life.
My father liked to go out to lunch once or twice a week by himself when my mom was busy doing her own thing. For many years he liked to go to Elephant and Castle, a restaurant close-by on Prince Street. Mikio also liked to eat there at mid-day. They would sit at either end of the restaurant at their own tables, but trade off buying lunch for each other. My dad and Mikio were very different birds but had a great appreciation for each other.
“The old books on birds that lined my childhood shelves described nests as ‘bird homes’. This confused me. How could a nest be a home? Back then I thought of homes as fixed, eternal, dependable refuges. Nests were not like that: they were seasonal secrets to be used and abandoned. But then, birds challenged my understanding of the nature of home in so many ways. Some spent the year at sea, or entirely in the air, and felt earth or rock beneath their feet only to make nests and lay eggs that tied them to land. This was all a deeper mystery. It was a story about the way lives should go that was somehow like – but not anything like – the one I’d been handed as a child. You grow up, you get married, you get a house, you have children. I didn’t know where birds fitted into all this. I didn’t know where I did. It was a narrative that even then gave me pause.”

Coincidences that are keeping me up all night:
12 May 2015
Louis went to Snoop Dogg’s album release party. He got papped as he left. A mysterious blonde in those pics would be reported as having his baby later. I’m not posting the cursed pic. We all know which one.
12 May 2017
Exactly two years later, Harry released his solo debut album. His album cover looks like he’s dramatically crying in the bathtub with pink water. Or maybe he’s trying not to make that honking laugh. Guess we’ll never know which one for sure, because we only see his back.
Tumblr media
Horseback riding happened to be one of H’s favourite things to do, according to his answer in FOURPLAY. Aka the game in which he said “not that important” to female being a trait he looks for in a lady.
But that obviously has nothing to do with said Snoop Dogg’s album cover two years prior. With blue horse dog nibbling on green bush in front of the trees and green screen. His name & album name in capital letters on top left and right.
Tumblr media
Although Louis styled his name & album name the same way on WALLS album cover, too. In which he’s just sitting there looking like a prisoner. But that’s unrelated. Obviously, Snoop Dogg couldn’t be a bluegreening Larrie who knew what was going to happen in advanced, right?
Tumblr media
11 Oct 2017
Before Louis dropped the masterpiece that is his WALLS album. He released Just Like You on National Coming Out day first. 25 and it’s all planned.
2 Feb 2019
Harry just turned 25. Louis posted 3 pics on IG with the caption: It’s coming… the first picture is in a film reel with a very interesting number on top corner: 22. Guess what else had already happened in film reel? Taylor Swift’s 22 MV. In which the party at the end fit quite nicely with Night out and it’s 10 grand. Which in turn, looks like Taylor’s End Game MV & maybe Louis’s Miss You MV (where you see ME on the wall to his left in the middle of the song & a vertical Style to his right at the end of the song.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
26 Apr 2019
Taylor released her single ME! on Lesbian Visibility Day
13 Dec 2019
Taylor just turned 30.
Harry released Fine Line. Thus, digging up Haylor grave. Headlines that I can’t stand.
31 Jan 2020
It’s the last day that Harry was 25 years old.
But you only get half of the story. Luckily, we get each half from two people to make it whole.
Louis released his WALLS album. He said it’s his most honest album so far. Okay, Princess Park.
Taylor released Only The Young for her Miss Americana Documentary. Prior to this, she already sang: There’s nothing like this Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince. Effectively calling out her own documentary as half bulls*it in advance with Lover. Of course, Cornelia Street.
23 July 2020
Taylor released folklore, on the 10th anniversary for the first day of One Direction.
Track 15 peace (Your integrity makes me feel small. You paint dreamscape on the wall.) did kill my mind far too many times to count. First, by being The Number: 28-13=15. The difference between Louis’s number and Taylor’s number.
Second, by being the word on Louis’s white t-shirt in that “I love you first” interview before Haylor took over the gossip front pages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, the lyrics video looks like it could be the background filming location of Louis’s We Made It: Director’s cut. Let’s move on before I fall down that deep dark abyss of a rabbit hole.
11 Dec 2020
Taylor released evermore out of nowhere, right before Louis’s first livestream concert, no less.
12 Dec 2020
It’s the last day that Taylor was 30 years old.
Louis held his first livestream concert with a giant, golden H on his chest. He debuted Copy of a Copy of a Copy. Its lyrics just happened to match the visual cue in Taylor’s Willow MV. From the album she just dropped the day before. No biggie. Pure unadulterated coincidence, right? Definitely not

Right?
Run by Taylor ft. Ed from her RED’s vault won’t be related to 1D’s Ready To Run from FOUR in capital underlined, right?

St Vincent: “Pour a Drink, Smoke a Joint... That’s the Vibe”
Ding dong! Daddy's Home
By Johnny Davis
19/03/2021
Tumblr media
Annie Clark, known professionally as St Vincent, picked up a guitar aged 12 after being inspired by Jimi Hendrix. During her teens she worked as a roadie and later tour manager for her aunt and uncle, the jazz duo Tuck & Patti. Originally from Oklahoma, she moved to Dallas, Texas when she was seven and later attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts for three years, before dropping out.
Clark worked as a touring musician with the Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens, before releasing Marry Me, her first album as St Vincent, in 2007. By her fifth album, 2017’s Masseduction, she had become one of the most celebrated artists in music, the first solo female artist to win a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album in 20 years.
She became unlikely Daily Mail-fodder around the same time, thanks to an 18-month relationship with Cara Delevingne, and later Kristen Stewart. Her ever-changing music, dressing up-box image and head-spinning well of ideas have seen her compared to David Bowie, Kate Bush and Prince. To complete the notion of her being the "artist's artist", in 2012 she collaborated with David Byrne on the album Love This Giant.
Indeed, she is surely one of few performers today who could stand in for Kurt Cobain with what’s-left-of-Nirvana, performing “Lithium” at their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, as well as cover “Controversy” at a Prince tribute concert in 2020, with such guitar-playing fireworks its author would surely have approved.
Following the glam-influenced pop of Masseduction, St Vincent has performed another stylistic handbrake turn. Complete with a new image – part-Warhol Superstar, part-Cassavetes heroine – she has mined the textures of the music she loved most as a kid: the virtuoso rock of Steely Dan, the clipped funk of Stevie Wonder and blue-eyed soul of mid-Seventies' David Bowie, on her upcoming album, Daddy’s Home.
The title refers to Clark's own father, locked up in Texas for 12 years in 2010, for money laundering in a stock manipulation scheme, one in which he and his co-conspirators cheated 17,000 investors out of £35m. It is also, in typical Clark style, a bit of saucy slang.
Back on the promotional trail, Clark Zoomed in from Los Angeles one morning recently – fully caffeinated and raring to go. “My vices?” she pondered. “Too much coffee, man…”
What question are you already bored of being asked?
There’s not one that’s popping out. There’s no question where I’m like “Oh God, if I ever hear that again, I’ll jump off a building.” I’m chill.
I mention it because prior to releasing your last record you put out a pre-recorded “press conference”, seemingly to pre-empt every inane question the media would throw at you.
It’s so funny. It didn’t really occur like that. Originally that was supposed to be a legit green screen conference. Like, “I’ll just answer these questions ‘cos when they need to have me on ‘The Morning Show’ in Belarus they can have this and put their own graphics behind it”. But then when my friend Carrie Brownstein [collaborator and Sleater-Kinney vocalist-guitarist] and I started writing it and it became very snarky. For some reason it didn’t occur to me that “Oh, that might be off-putting or intimidating to journalists” I just thought "This is silly”. So anyway… I understand.
We're curious about your dad and the American legal system.
I have had a lot of questions about that. For some reason it didn’t occur to me how much I would be answering questions about… my hilarious father!
How do you view his time in prison?
Just that life is long and people are complicated. And that, luckily, there’s a chance for redemption or reconciliation, even after a really crazy traumatic time. And also anybody that has any experience with the American justice system will know this... nobody comes out unscathed.
You recently presented an online MasterClass: "St. Vincent Teaches Creativity & Songwriting". One of the takeaways: “All you need are ears and ideas, and you can make anything happen”. Who’s had the best ideas in music?
Well, you’ve got to give credit to people who were genuinely creating a new style – like if you think of Charlie Parker, arguably he created a new style. This hard bop that was just absolutely impossible to play. It was, like, “Check me out – try to copy me!” So, that’s interesting. I think Brian Eno, for sure, has some great ideas about music – and obviously has made some of the best music. Joni Mitchell – completely singular. I mean: think about that. There are some people who are actually inimitable – like, you couldn’t possibly even try to imitate them.
It’s a brave soul who covers a Joni Mitchell song. Although, apologies if you actually have.
No, I have not. And there’s a reason why not. Come on – Bowie. Bowie never repeated himself. David Byrne also didn’t repeat himself. He took all of his influences of classic songs and the disco that was happening at the time, and the potpourri of downtown New York music from the mid- to late Seventies… and synthesised it into this completely new, other thing. I mean, that’s impressive. Those are the ones we remember.
How hard is it not to repeat yourself?
It’s whether people have the Narcissus thing or not. Like, it’s always got to be a balance where you’re, like, “Well, I need to believe in myself to make something and be liberated. But I can’t look at that pond of my previous work and go ‘Oh you! You’re gorgeous!’” So I don’t go back and listen to things I’ve done. I finished Daddy’s Home in the fall and it was, like, “This is done” and it felt great. I loved the record and it was so fun to make. But what I did immediately afterwards was to write something completely different. But then I don’t know, ‘cos there are people who do the thing that they do just great. And you just want to hear more songs, in the style of the thing that they do great.
Right. No one wants an experimental Ramones album.
Exactly. Or, like, or a Tom Petty record. I don’t want a tone poem from Tom Petty! I want a perfectly constructed, perfectly written completely singalongable three-chord song.
The new album has a very “live” Seventies feel. I’d read that some of the tracks are first takes. Can that be right? It all sounds very complicated.
That’s not right. I should say [rock voice] "Yeah, that’s right, we just jammed…" But, you know, I’ll be honest. There are some vocal takes in there that are first takes. But it really is just the sound of people playing. We get good drum takes. And good bass takes. And I play a bunch of guitar and sitar-guitar. And it’s the sound of a moment in time, certainly. And way more about looseness and groove and feel and vibe than anything else [I’ve done before].
Amazing live albums, virtuoso playing, jamming – those were staples of Seventies music. Have we lost some of that?
I mean, I can wax poetic on that idea for a minute. In the Seventies you had this tremendous sophistication in popular music. Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan and funk and soul and jazz and rock…. and all of the things rolled into one. That was tremendously sophisticated. It just was. There was harmony, there were chord progressions.
Tumblr media
What else from that decade appealed to you for Daddy’s Home?
It reminds me of where we are now, I think. So, 1971-1976 in downtown New York, you’ve got the Summer of Love thing and flower children and all the hippy stuff and it’s, like, “Oh yeah, that didn’t work out that well. We’re still in Vietnam. There’s a crazy economic crisis, all kinds of social unrest”. People stood in the proverbial burned-out building. And it reminds me a lot of where we are today, in terms of social unrest, economic uncertainty. A groundswell wanting change... but where that’s headed is yet to be seen. We haven’t fully figured that out. We’re all picking up pieces of the rubble and going “Okay, what do we do with this one? Where do we go with that one?” Being a student of history, that was one of the reasons why I was drawn to that period in history.
Also: that’s the music I’ve listened to more than anything in my entire life. I mean, I was probably the youngest Steely Dan fan. It didn’t make me that popular at sleepovers. People were, like, “I want to listen to C+C Music Factory” and I was, like, “Yeah, but have you heard this solo on [Steely Dan’s] ‘Kid Charlemagne’”? That music is so in me. It’s so in my ears and I feel like I never really went there [making music before]. And I didn’t want to be a tourist about it. It’s just that particular style had a whole lot to teach me. So I wanted to just dig in and find out. Just play with it.
Is there a style of music you don’t like?
That I don’t like?
You're a jazz fan...
I love jazz. Are you kidding me? I was that annoying 14-year-old who was, like, “Yeah, but have you listened to Oliver Nelson’s The Blues and the Abstract Truth?”
I love jazz. Are you kidding me? I was that annoying 14-year-old who was, like, “Yeah, but have you listened to Oliver Nelson’s The Blues and the Abstract Truth?”
That does sound quite precocious for a 14-year-old.
It’s annoying. Just insufferable. [Thinking aloud] What music don’t I like….? Here’s what can happen. And I feel like it’s similar to when an actor has some lines in a script and they’re not very good – not very well-written – so they overcompensate by making it very dramatic and really overplaying it. I would say that is a style of music that I don’t really like. Where somebody has to really oversell it and it all feels… athletic. Instead of musical or touching.
Did you put your lockdown time to constructive use?
If you need any mediocre home renovations done, I’m your girl. It was fun. I did – let’s see now – plumbing, electrical, painting. Luckily there’s YouTube, so you can more or less figure it all out. I did a lot of that stuff and I have to say it was such a nice contrast to working on music all day. Because when you’re working on music you have to create the construct of everything. You’re, like, “I need to make this song. But what is this song?” Everything is this kind of elusive castle in the sky thing. But then, if you go and sand a deck, you’ve done something. It feels really good. And it’s not, like, “What is a deck? And who am I?” You’re just, like, “This is a task and I get to do it and I can see how the mechanism works I understand it it’s not esoteric – it’s simply mechanical". I can do something mechanical. I loved it.
Which bit of DIY are you most pleased with?
Painting the kitchen cabinets. That’s a real job. We’re talking sanding. We’re talking taking things off hinges. We’re talking multiple coats. The whole lacquer-y thing at the end. That. I’m, like, “That looks pretty pro”.
What colour did you go for?
Oh, you know, it’s just a sort of… teal. But classy teal.
Of course.
Yeah. The wallpapering wasn’t as successful. But, you know, that’s fine. So that was really fun. And then I also went down a history rabbit hole. I realised I had some gaps in my knowledge about the Russian Revolution and life under the Iron Curtain and the gulags and Stalin and Lenin. So, I went down that hole. And then I was like “Oh I forgot – I haven’t read any Dostoevsky”. So I have been working on his short stories – which are great. And then Solzhenitsyn I really liked – I mean liked is a strange word to use for The Gulag Archipelago. I read Cancer Ward… All of them. I recommend all of it. And then, before that, it was a big Stasi kick. I can’t remember the last time I had time to brush up on the Russian Revolution.
There’s a lyric on “The Laughing Man”, “If life’s a joke… then I’m dying laughing”. It’s also on your new merchandise. What do you think happens when we die?
Nothing.
This is it?
Yeah. I mean, I understand that it would be comforting to think otherwise. That there might be a special place. It would be nice! The thought’s never really been able to stick for me. I would say that we are made of carbon and then we get subsumed back into the Earth and then eventually we become life again – in the carbon part of our makeup.
Well, that sounds better than an endless void.
I don’t think it would be an endless void.
In what ways are you like your mum and dad?
Let’s see. Well, my mother is a precious angel who has unwavering optimism. She is incredibly intelligent and also very nonjudgmental and able and happy to explore all kinds of possibilities. Saying that, though… it’s sounding not like me at all. I’m like my father in that I think we have very similar tastes in books, films, music and a very similar sense of humour. My mother’s so kind that it’s hard for me to… Her level of kindness and decency is aspirational to me.
Tumblr media
How famous are you, on a scale of one to 10?
God, I mean, like, “TikTok Famous” probably a one, right? I’m gonna say – I don’t know about the number system – but I’m going to say I-occasionally-get-a-free-appetiser-sent-over famous. Which is a great place to be.
What do you look for in a date?
It’s been so long since I’ve been on a date. You know, I once read something, it might have been something cheesy on a card, but [it was]: if you don’t like someone, then the way they hold their fork will bother you. But, if you like someone – or love someone – they could spill an entire plate of spaghetti on your lap and you wouldn’t mind.
You play a zillion instruments. What’s the hardest instrument to play?
Well, I can’t play horns or anything like that. The French horn is supposed to be really hard. I don’t like to blag… but I’m an incredible whistler. Like, I can whistle Bach.
Is Bach a particularly tough whistle?
I think… yeah. It’s fast. And noodly.
What’s the first thing you’re going to do when we're out of lockdown?
I’m gonna get a manicure and a pedicure and a massage. Massage from a stranger. Any stranger.
What about a night on the tiles?
I will probably attend a dinner party.
That sounds quite restrained.
It sounds hella boring. Sorry.
Clubbing?
No, I don’t really go to clubs. I think in order to go to clubs you have to be a person who likes to publicly dance. And I don’t publicly dance. I mean I would feel too shy to dance at a wedding. But for some reason I will dance on stage in front of 10,000 people.
That’s why alcohol was invented.
Exactly! But I swear I would reach the point of alcohol sickness before I would be drunk enough to dance.
The effects of drugs on creativity: discuss.
Unreliable. Really unreliable. Sometimes after a day’s work in the studio you’re like, "I’m gonna have shot of tequila and then sing this a few more times, and then play". It’s okay but you peak sort-of quickly. You can’t sustain the level without getting tired. And then I would say that weed just makes me paranoid and useless. Every once in a while some combo of psychedelics can get you someplace. But, for the most part, you either come back to [the work] the next day and you’re, like, “This is garbage” or you get sleepy or hungry or distracted and you’re not really doing anything. I’ve never had opiates. Or coke or whatever. So I don’t know. I can’t speak to that. But with the slightly more G-Rated [American movie classification: All Ages Permitted] thing, it doesn’t really help.
Tumblr media
What do you have too many of in your wardrobe?
I’m not a hoarder. I tend to have one thing that I get really obsessed with and then I wear it every day. Some people, having a whole lot of things gives them a sense of safety and security. It gives me anxiety. I can’t think if there’s too much visual noise. If there was a uniform that I could wear every day I would absolutely do that. And at certain times I have.
Like Steve Jobs?
Or, oh God, what’s her name? The Theranos lady… Elizabeth Holmes!
The blood-test-scam lady?
Well, I guess it was unclear how much of it was self-delusion and how much of it was, you know, actual fraud.
Another black turtleneck fan.
And – again, this is unconfirmed – she also adopted a very low voice like this in order to be taken seriously as a CEO.
Like Margaret Thatcher.
Did she have a low voice?
She made hers “less shrill”.
Oh yes. Yes!
What movie makes you cry?
The Lives of Others
That’s a good one.
Right. I rewatched that during my Stasi kick.
I’ll be honest, your lockdown sounds even less fun than everyone else’s.
I mean… Look, I had to educate myself. I went to a music college [Berklee College of Music] where I tried to take the philosophy class and the way that they would talk about it… it was taught by this professor who was from one of the neighbouring colleges in Boston. And it was very clear that he really disliked having to talk Kierkegaard to a bunch of music school kids. He was just so bummed by it. I’m trying to learn, “What’s the deal with Kant?” and he felt he had to explain everything only in musical terms [because he assumed it would be the only thing music students could relate to]. Like, “Well, you know, it’s like when Bob Marley…" I’m, like, “No, no, no! I don’t want that!” So I had to educate myself. This is where its led me.
Where should we ideally listen to Daddy’s Home?
Put it on a turntable. Pour yourself a glass of tequila or bourbon – whatever your favourite hooch is – and smoke a joint and listen to it. I think that’s the vibe.
Daddy’s Home is released on May 14

Note: I’m going to deviate from my usual fluffy stuff. I was browsing my draft collection, because there is a lot of pending write-ups and this one’s been there for far too long… since 2017 to be exact. Procrastinate much.
This was originally planned as a two-chaptered fic. And I’m hoping I stick to that.
Summary: There was a weird sensation pulling at her midriff; followed by a loud, sucking sound before she was suddenly plunged into darkness.
“Watch out!”
The shrill sound of Usopp screaming reached her ears. Nami watched, horrified, as each of her nakama evaded the eerie, almost dark purplish light that was heading towards them.
She stood, rooted on the spot. Her body failing to move even as her brain kept commanding it to shift out of the way or she’s going to take a direct hit.
Her brown-colored orbs widened with the realization that she’s not going to make it in time. Her hands tightened their grip on her weapon as the light advanced towards to her.
She heard Luffy’s voice shouting her name, as well as the wailing cry of their cook calling out for her. She didn’t understand why in that split second before the light hit her, her senses seemed to have become acute.
There was Robin’s loud gasp, Chopper bursting into tears, Franky screaming ‘strong right’ and Brook yelling Yahazu Giri.
Her ears picked up the sound of someone running towards her. Her eyes tried to search for the source of the sound. Somehow in the back of her mind, she already knew who was responsible for it.
She stared haplessly as Zoro tried to reach her in time to save her from the damning light. His face was taut with concentration as he tried to move faster towards her.
“Nami!” He shouted, one sword-less hand stretching out to her.
Surprisingly, she was able to lift her own towards him.
“Zoro…” she whispered his name, vainly trying to reach out to him.
 But he was too late.
The light hit her. It enveloped her whole body, her whole being—warm and unexpectedly soothing.
There was a weird sensation pulling at her midriff; followed by a loud, sucking sound before she was suddenly plunged into darkness.
The Straw Hat pirates stared, aghast, as their orange-haired navigator suddenly disappeared right before their very eyes.
-------------------------
It was Monkey D. Luffy’s idea, as usual, to explore the unknown island where they just dropped anchor.
After two weeks of nothing but the ocean in their sight, the exuberant captain was at the end of his expectedly short rope to have his ‘land adventure time’—much to the chagrin of everyone who knows that Luffy’s so-called adventures usually ends with all of them knee-deep in trouble.
After the kaizoku bento was distributed, the crew separated into groups: one to survey the island, one to look for the town and restock their supplies and one to stop Luffy’s idiocy from rampaging. Brook volunteered to guard the ship and Sanji promised to relieve him once he’s able to get some food shopping done.
All’s well until the survey and babysitter groups ran into some weird, crazy guy who has the strange ability to make anyone or anything disappear. How Luffy came across the downright creepy fellow while exploring the mountain’s forest… no one can answer. After all, said captain has an unusual knack for attracting trouble everywhere he goes.
It was a good thing though that for such a rather powerful ability, their enemy seems to be truly unaware of its true potential. For he was just randomly flinging purplish circle of lights, screaming that they leave him alone or he’ll make them all disappear with his power.
Usopp concluded that it was probably because the guy’s got too many loose screws in his head. After all, he was living hermetically in an isolated cave on top of the island’s mountain.
The others, sensing that something was amiss when both groups failed to return to the Sunny after a few hours and seeing the tell-tale signs of a battle going on up in the mountains made their way to the skirmish.
It should’ve been an easy battle, but someone had to deliberately irritate the hell more out of the enemy by dousing him with seawater.
Much to the crew’s amazement, the only effect of the water was to vex their opponent more as he hurled much larger circle of lights at them. This was not a devil fruit user as they had originally believed.
A surprised gasp came from Robin and she went on to explain that while visiting the town’s library earlier, she read something about an old island legend regarding an accursed man who has the power to make people and things disappear.
“Not a devil fruit Robin-chan?” Sanji asked as he avoided another light aimed at his direction.
Robin shook her head. “Unfortunately, no,” she answered. Behind her, Usopp and Chopper dove at the same time behind a bush to evade a light whooshing towards them. "And here I thought it was just a legend." The excitement in her voice was evident despite them being under attack.
“So it’s a mystery power!” Luffy exclaimed excitedly, holding onto his hat firmly as he jumped randomly to escape the lights directed at him.
“You can say so, sencho-san” Robin replied smiling. She hid behind a tree as another round light whizzed past her.
“So how do we beat him?” Zoro growled. He launched a Pondo Ho towards one of the lights. Both his slash and the light dissipated out of thin air. He sidestepped to elude another and promptly collided with the navigator.
“Zoro!” Nami chastised him frowning. “Watch where you’re going!”
“Well don’t just stand there like tree woman!”
“Marimo!” Sanji screamed at him. “How dare you hit Nami-swan!”
“Uruse ero-cook!”
“Shitty swordsman!” The cook seethed.
“I can’t believe you’re getting lost even here.” Nami snapped, fighting the urge to bonk his thick head with her Clima-tact. She roughly pulled at his green coat just as another light flew past the swordsman’s left side.
“Thanks but no thanks witch,” the green-haired lad scowled at her.
“Hey I just saved you! Gratitude please!” Nami retorted. Another light soared towards them and Zoro wasted no time in grabbing her around the waist and pulling her behind a tree.
“Now we’re even.” He muttered condescendingly as they hid behind the trunk. Nami huffed in response and they watched as Franky leaped at the bushes beside them, hollering ‘super’ as he dodged an attack sent towards him.
“Ok this is getting way too long!” Sanji complained.
“Took the words right out of my mouth, swirly!” Zoro sneered, drawing out another katana. Nami backed away from him as the he stepped out of their hiding place.
“Did not, baka kenshin!” The cook yelled back.
“Usopp,” Nami called the long-nosed sniper. “Long-range attacks!”
Usopp nodded. With their enemy’s ability, it poses a much lesser risk to hit him with flying attacks rather than meet him head on.
“Luffy, Sanji-kun!” Nami warned both the cook and the captain not to attack the enemy.
“Hai, Nami-swaaan!”
“But Namiiii…” Their captain childishly protested. Bored from jumping too much, he landed beside the navigator with a pout.
Nami pulled his ear. “Baka! What are you going to do if you get hit with that light and you disappear?!”
“Let the others attack him first Luffy,” Robin said, appearing behind them suddenly. Crossing her arms in front of her, she said, “Franky!”
“Aaww!” Franky, who felt hands pushing him up, jumped from the bushes where he landed earlier, striking a super pose to indicate the he's a-ok.
“Brook!” Sanji bellowed, not seeing the skeleton anywhere near the vicinity.
“Right here Sanji-san,” Brook answered, way up on one of the trees near them.
“Damn it you idiot where you hiding there all the time?!”
“Yohohohoho!”
“Chopper where are you?!” Nami looked around hoping the doctor did not get hit by those troublesome light their enemy was bombarding them.
“Here Nami!” The little reindeer raised a hoof; hopping down from where was currently perched atop of Usopp’s head. He hopped down to stand beside the sniper.
With all the Mugiwara crew accounted for. It was time for a counter-attack.
“Weapons left!” Franky hollered just as Usopp simultaneously released one of his Kabuto bombs.
“Zoro!” Nami yelled.
“Way ahead of you woman!” The swordsman answered, placing Wado Ichimonji between his teeth. He released a much powerful version of his previous Pondo Ho.
The concurrent attack hit their enemy head on. There was an explosion and an ear-piercing scream of pain as smoke filled the spot where the man was standing.
Usopp winced. “Ooops. I think we overdid it.”
“Super overdid it.” Franky agreed.
Sanji nonchalantly shoved a cigarette into his mouth as he studied the scene. “Yeah you all did.” He muttered with a flick of his lighter. “He’s just a normal human being and you all went all out to attack him.”
“Shut up shit cook,” Zoro snarled at his direction. “Better than just standing there and doing nothing.”
“Say that again shit head!”
“Both of you shut your traps.” Nami immediately stepped between the two men. “Now is not the time for yapping at each other.”
“Tch.”
“Hai Nami-swaaan!”
The others ignored them and continued staring at the still smoke-filled area, waiting.
Out of the blue, another light flew towards their direction, bigger than before.
“Everyone scatter!” Luffy commanded, stretching his arm towards a random tree limb and making a grab for one of the nearest crew member, who unluckily was Usopp.
The crew scattered out instantly. “Heeeelp!” The sharpshooter screeched as he was lifted mid-air.
“Kyaaaah!” Nami shrieked.
“Move! Move! You’ll get hit!” Zoro’s voice reached her ears and she bounded towards her left blindly. She felt his arm grabbed her by the waist, hauling her up and tucking her under his arm. Nami was in too much panic to even care that he was lugging her like a sack of potatoes.
“Nami-swan!” Sanji squawked when he saw the green-haired dumbass carelessly carting off his favorite lady brusquely. “Put her down you boorish, moronic marimo! Nami-swaaaan! Come into my arms so that I can protect you! Ack!” He nearly tripped when he accidentally collided with Brook, who landed beside him, when he tried to dodge the light.
“Ah Sanji-san. You must not lose concentration lest you get hit!” The skeleton reminded him as he swept the cook into his bony arms and effortlessly leapt towards another tree.
“Brook! You shitty skeleton! Put me down!”
“Yohohoho! No.”
“Nami-saaaan!” He yelled again when he and the musician landed safely on a sturdy tree branch.
“Somebody shut him the hell up!” Zoro roared from somewhere down.
“Urusai!” Nami can be heard screeching after. “Can’t you see we are in the middle of battle?!” She, along with Chopper (whom she didn’t see earlier was also tucked under Zoro’s other arm), are hiding with the swordsman behind a thick group of trees. As for Robin and Franky, she failed to see where they took cover.
“LEAVE ME ALONE!” Their enemy was screaming as he continuously launched purplish lights at them. Nami squeezed Chopper towards her, ducking her head lower as the reindeer hugged her back just as forcefully.
“Careful! He is going out of control!” Franky cautioned from afar, exactly where, no one can pinpoint.
Nami heard Zoro made a tch-ing sound as he carefully peered from behind the tree trunk to observe what was happening. From up a random tree Usopp was complaining, “Ouch! Don’t push me! Luffy!”
Then he yelped. The light hit the tree where he and Luffy were. Luckily, the rubber man was able to swing himself to the safety of another but had forgotten to take Usopp with him.
The sharpshooter did not hesitate to dive down the ground before the tree they were at disappeared completely.
Everyone held their breath as Usopp was suddenly rolled towards the refuge of some thick shrubbery by Robin’s bloomed arms.
“Robin!” A sob can be heard from under the foliage. “Thank you!”
“You’re welcome.”
“Shi shi shi! Sorry Usopp.” Luffy apologized sheepishly as he leapt down to where Usopp was lying prone.
“Temee Luffy! You idiot, you forgot me!”
“Everyone look out!” Robin cautioned as another light surged towards them.
One by one the trees and shrubberies were disappearing as the purple light hit them.
“Damn it!” Zoro suddenly swore when this time it was their hiding place that vanished. He grabbed Nami’s arm, roughly yanking her up.
“Zoro!”
“Move Nami!” He pushed her forward. “Chopper head towards those trees!”
“Hai!” Chopper jumped from Nami’s arms and change to his heavy point. He grabbed the navigator and made a dash towards where Zoro was pointing.
“Chopper! You could’ve change into your walk point!” Nami protested.
“Eeeh?!”
“Too late! Just go! Go!”
From behind them, Luffy was now telling off the enemy.
“Oi ossan! Stop throwing those mystery lights on us!”
But the man was oblivious. He was only focused in eliminating them out of his sight.
“That’s it! Gomu gomu no…”
“Luffy stop!” Almost everyone shouted.
“Pistol!”
Luffy’s rubber fist collided with the man’s face, sending him flying a good four feet away.
“LUFFY!” They all gaped as the man lay sprawled on the ground, seemingly unconscious.
“Yosh!” Their captain declared with a nod, crossing his arms and looking absolutely pleased with himself.
“Well that put a stop to—” Brook’s voice trailed off when the man stood up, looking totally unaffected by Luffy’s punch.
Usopp let out a whimper. “Is it me or he looks angrier than ever?”
No one answered. Because no one can.
For the man suddenly let out an enraged scream as huge purple orbs appeared all around him. He swung his arm with all his might, casting all of them towards the pirates.
“WATCH OUT!!!” Usopp screamed.
-------------------------
Zoro stared at the empty space in front of him.
His hand was still extended, his fingers still poised to grab the woman who was not there any longer.
Just a few inches more…
Yet he was not able to reach her in time.
“Nami!!!!”
Somewhere from behind him, their captain screamed.
