"Riddle me this," Edward started in exhaustion as he worked on patching up the bleeding and bruised jester who was currently laying on his couch, barely conscious, "who is the most stubborn, bullheaded person in this room?" He questioned as pushed a sewing needle into her flesh so he could stitch her up.

"I'm- OUCH! THAT HURTS!" Harley cried out in pain, tears starting to form in her eyes.

The man's brow twitched, "Probably not worse than what your so-called 'lover' has done to you, my dear." He grunted, "And the answer to that riddle was you, my dear black and red jester." He huffed.

"...oh." The girl murmured, trying to ignore the pain as she watched him silently as he moved the needle in and out of her.

He scowled as he finished and moved away from her to clean off his medical instruments. He truly hated seeing how much that god forsakened clown abused her and how she acted as if it were her fault- she was smarter than that and he damn well knew it. His hands clenched on the counter as he watched her from the reflection in the window- he couldn't understand why he cared for her so much despite how often she seems rather suicidal by just being with Joker.

"...E-Eddie?" She called out meekly as she forced herself to sit up, wincing a bit as she did so. She took a sharp breath in- she could feel that a few of her robs were broken after what her Puddin' did in anger after one of her multiple screw ups-

"You're blaming yourself for his anger again." Ed grunted as he pushed off the counter and turned to face her, he didn't seem angry but just tired of her getting manipulated like she did so often.

"It-it was my fault!" She spoke, "I-If I was only faster to do as he asked or if-"

She suddenly shut herself up as she was suddenly given some pain medicine, "No. It was his fault for acting the way he did!" He told her as he sat down in a nearby, "You're a brilliant and talented woman, Dr. Quinzel, if he doesn't understand what he's got with you then that's his problem. Not yours."

The jester just stared at him in stunned silence before tears began to stream down her tears and was quick to hug him as she sobbed, muttering thank yous.

The quizzical man blinked before slowly returning the hug. He knew she'd eventually run back to the clown but for now he could care for her. Come what may.
