Don't risk a rerun of the 2000 election.
In the first presidential election of the 21st century many deluded progressives voted for Green Party candidate Ralph Nader.
Their foolishness gave us eight years of George W. Bush who plagued the country with two recessions (including the Great Recession) and two wars (one totally unnecessary and one which could have been avoided if he heeded an intelligence brief 5 weeks before 9/11).
Oh yeah, Dubya also appointed one conservative and one batshit crazy reactionary to the US Supreme Court. Roberts and Alito are still there.
Paul Waldman of the Washington Post offers some thoughts.
Why leftists should work their hearts out for Biden in 2024
Ask a Democrat with a long memory what the numbers 97,488 and 537 represent, and their face will twist into a grimace. The first is the number of votes Ralph Nader received in Florida in 2000 as the nominee of the Green Party; the second is the margin by which George W. Bush was eventually certified the winner of the state, handing him the White House. Now, with President Biden gearing up for reelection, talk of a spoiler candidate from the left is again in the air. That’s unfortunate, because here’s the truth: The past 2½ years under Biden have been a triumph for progressivism, even if it’s not in most people’s interest to admit it. This was not what most people expected from Biden, who ran as a relative moderate in the 2020 Democratic primary. His nomination was a victory for pragmatism with its eyes directed toward the center. But today, no one can honestly deny that Biden is the most progressive president since at least Lyndon B. Johnson. His judicial appointments are more diverse than those of any of his predecessors. He has directed more resources to combating climate change than any other president. Notwithstanding the opposition from the Supreme Court, his administration has moved aggressively to forgive and restructure student loans.
Three years ago the economy was in horrible shape because of Trump's mishandling of the pandemic. Now unemployment is steadily below 4%, job creation continues to exceed expectations, and wages are rising as unions gain strength. The post-pandemic, post-Afghan War inflation rate has receded to near normal levels; people in the 1970s would have sold their souls for a 3.2% (and dropping) inflation rate. And many of the effects of "Bidenomics" have yet to kick in.
And in a story that is criminally underappreciated, his administration’s policy reaction to the covid-induced recession of 2020 was revolutionary in precisely the ways any good leftist should favor. It embraced massive government intervention to stave off the worst economic impacts, including handing millions of families monthly checks (by expanding the child tax credit), giving all kids in public schools free meals, boosting unemployment insurance and extending health coverage to millions.
It worked. While inflation rose (as it did worldwide), the economy’s recovery has been blisteringly fast. It took more than six years for employment rates to return to what they were before the Great Recession hit in 2008, but we surpassed January 2020 jobs levels by the spring of 2022 — and have kept adding jobs ever since. To the idealistic leftist, that might feel like both old news and a partial victory at best. What about everything supporters of Bernie Sanders have found so thrilling about the Vermont senator’s vision of the future, from universal health care to free college? It’s true Biden was never going to deliver that, but to be honest, neither would Sanders had he been elected president. And that brings me to the heart of how people on the left ought to think about Biden and his reelection.
Biden has gotten things done. The US economy is doing better than those of almost every other advanced industrialized country.
Our rivals China and Russia are both worse off than they were three years ago. And NATO is not just united, it's growing.
Sadly, we still need to deal with a far right MAGA cult at home who would wreck the country just to get its own way.
Biden may be elderly and unexciting, but that is one of the reasons he won in 2020. Many people just wanted an end to the daily drama of Trump's capricious and incompetent rule by tweet. And a good portion of those people live in places that count greatly in elections – suburbs and exurbs.
Superhero films seem to be slipping in popularity. Hopefully that's a sign that voters are less likely to embrace self-appointed political messiahs to save them from themselves.
Good governance is a steady process – not a collection of magic tricks. Experienced and competent individuals who are not too far removed from the lives of the people they represent are the best people to have in government.
Paul Waldman concludes his column speaking from the heart as a liberal...
I’ve been in and around politics for many years, and even among liberals, I’ve almost always been one of the most liberal people in the room. Yet only since Biden’s election have I realized that I will probably never see a president as liberal as I’d like. It’s not an easy idea to make peace with. But it suggests a different way of thinking about elections — as one necessary step in a long, difficult process. The further you are to the left, the more important Biden’s reelection ought to be to you. It might require emotional (and policy) compromise, but for now, it’s also the most important tool you have to achieve progressive ends.
Exactly. Rightwingers take the long view. It took them 49 years but they eventually got Roe v. Wade overturned. To succeed, we need to look upon politics as an extended marathon rather as one short sprint.
Republicans may currently be bickering, but they will most likely unite behind whichever anti-abortion extremist they nominate.
It's necessary to get the word out now that the only way to defeat climate-denying, abortion-restricting, assault weapon-loving, race-baiting, homophobic Republicans is to vote Democratic.

Oh, and my nose tells me that the entire Stellar Blade controversy may also be a complete hoax. The Asian Gamer company that Leftist Feminist Gaming journalists went after, for being too Sexist, while that company literally showed off the female model used, as a rebuttal, for guys on all the right-leaning YT channels, to admire, just happened to put the word HARD, next to an R, in their game, which the Feminists promptly jumped on (See Race-baiting) and then Twitter promptly spammed HARD R for hours, side-by-side with racist, N-word filled tweets and the HULU promo for #BlackTwitter
Another so-called, racist 'OOPS' just like the Congressman who used a bigoted word, which Twitter also spammed for hours. Some of these gaming companies are manipulating the public, while the activists within, are costing 1000s in the Industry to lose their jobs, over this drama. I hate to be so blunt, but trusting any Tech companies from Asia, right now, is sheer stupidity and for some reason, they're being pushed, aggressively. See below, as the mole, Clownfish TV, while still going after Disney on a regular basis, also keeps up with the race-baiting coming from BBC Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa.

honestly it’s still super weird to me that the archangels or inquisitors or whatever they are were first shown in a way that made it look like they had pitch black skin and strong resemblance to demons.

Only to later reveal they’re just white people in weirdly expressive masks and fake horns.

I keep seeing that scene from Rebirth of Aerith and Tifa in swimsuits and I’m so tired of people going “AAAAAH WOMEN AAAAH HOT HOT BARK BARK WOOF WOOF GRRRRR GRRRRR GRRRR” over it. Keep it to yourselves people. And the fact that some of these people were the same who complained about Tifa’s design in 7R says a lot (they gave her a BRA? Unforgivable.). People who say stuff like this: “The West is doomed because they don’t make hot video game characters! Glory to Japan, the only country that dares to give female video game characters bikinis!”
-A guy who’s never seen the sun in their entire life
You can enjoy a character’s design, but a character’s design is superfluous to their actual character. If you think they’re hot, then good, that’s not exactly the most controversial opinion in the world. But remember, Aerith and Tifa aren’t real!
Tumblr media
GamerGate isn’t dead, sadly. In fact, it’s only gotten much worse. And no, the West isn’t erasing attractive characters, have you seen Black Cat in the Spider-Man games, or Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3? Games like Stellar Blade and the AerTi swimsuit scene in Rebirth are also not a sign that Japan (I know South Korea and Japan are different countries but try telling these people that, they can’t tell the difference) is the only country brave enough to make hot female characters. How about we talk about how Cloud is shirtless in that scene as well. Y’know, I hear Cloud and Sephiroth have quite the following with women….but you guys would burn down a city block if you found out that women can be attracted to men.

Race Baiting - A thoughtument by Nikkiitalks.
Okay.. Here we go.
Firstly, for the sake of absolute transparency, when I was first contacted by @olivaraofrph in a tirade of a novel of a response, my skimming through it had me starting to be swayed in her favour, mostly because of the depths of which her privacy was invaded for the sake of the allegations against her. And in that moment, I prematurely forgave her. Told her I understood. But it turns out, after much more has come to light, that I in fact do not understand. And in turn my forgiveness is recanted.
I did not have all the information. Hell, I had a fraction of it. Natalie and I, we were friendly, but not close. We don't talk every day and we never did. We had, though, stood arm in arm against that moment's hot button issue that I had felt strongly about, and so had she. It seemed. We'd held each other in places of mutual respect, shouting each other out and praising each other's advocacy.
Now, it all feels so... silly. This performative display that I so willingly let be pulled over my eyes. But that's beside the point. That was all I knew of her, really. There are others in this tiny niche of our already tiny community, that were far closer. Those that ran servers, indigenous servers, with her. They weren't even afforded the respect of being given an explanation to, but I did?
I was the one, who when I it was brought to my attention, when I was urged to send a DM which I already had, that was deemed the one to get that? A novel, let me be clear, the contents of which I won't make public upon request. A lot of it had nothing to do, truly, with the issue at hand but served to distract from it in a wall of text. It was overwhelming, and it felt just a teeny, tiny bit, manipulative.
There's so much evidence now, even evidence regretfully obtained, that the only place her advocacy extends to is Tumblr. None of your public, irl facing socials having anything there about it. Your own admission of percentage, (how that had been confirmed as she claims I can't speculate), and other things that don't line up. Those of us in the community affected haven gotten together to compare and talk through our feelings toward it all and there is a consensus.
It fucking sucks.
Just the fact that this needs to be brought up absolutely sucks. It detracts from the credibility of other indigenous creators in the space. Not all press is good press, and Natalie right now, is bad press. Beyond myself and the others being lied to. Beyond the personal offense I take to that. This is what bothers me the most. For all the posturing and all the 'talking in wrong and confusing ways' it makes us all look bad. And for what?
The other personal and religious or spiritual beliefs she believes doesn't mean anything to me. The other racism claims about her I can't confirm, whatever. Talking shit about a beloved creator, real or not. Doesn't matter.
What matters is there is damage done to the indigenous community here on the rpc, and before we came together to discuss it, it was distressing to all of us. There is no such thing as clout on tumblr and I don't know why people can't seem to get that through their heads? What need is there to claim to be something you're not, even through insinuations, half truths and vague details? I don't understand.
Yes, the indigenous community is so willing to accept anyone with any indigenous blood, and it's the fact that this is what was taken advantage of by someone... that really gets me. That's what really makes it sting. It's a blow to every white passing Native out there, in my opinion. That's where my hurt is. It's the fact that there is question of the validity of the claims toward a shared familial and generational trauma to myself. That still impacts my father's side of the family to this day.
I don't even know where I'm going with all this, and I feel like I'm typing myself in circles, but it's all to say that I don't care about all the other stuff that serves to muddy the waters of the real issue. Race baiting does nothing but end up hurting those who's real life experiences you're roleplaying.

I can see how that video making fun of the AI generated babies saying "At 28 days old I was put in a microwave by my own mother" is like maaaybe funny cause it's ridiculous but the fact that the people who made those videos (the AI generated ones) are literally fishing for likes by telling the story of a real infant that was killed by her own mother after being put in a microwave is just extremely disturbing to me. not to mention the baby (Paris Talley) was a Black baby and most of the AI generated babies in the videos are white and I sincerely doubt many of the people making those videos are Black themselves (kinda baseless cause I'm not gonna check their Tiktok accounts but most people I've seen do "true crime" stuff are white) it's just gross as hell and I can see how and why it's making fun of those people but it's so fucked up I can't even laugh at them yk ...

My most controversial opinion is that if you can’t keep the same energy for Ariana Grande as you do for Jesy Nelson then you need to shut up forever about “race-fishing” and admit that you just want a socially acceptable excuse to hate on that girl without feeling like a massive bully.

My biggest issue with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the race stuff that's kinda in it. Like it's tried to make the NINETIES look like it was really racist. Like the Nineties were not nearly as bad as all the racism that we have now.

^^^ Not a good look for somebody regarded as a "God-Emperor" by the MAGA cult.
Though Trump's unearthly hair is probably the least of his problems these days.
The 'Donald Trump show is over' says New York attorney general at civil fraud trial
"The Donald Trump show is over," (Letitia) James told reporters after the 77-year-old former president left court at the midpoint of Wednesday's proceedings. Before leaving, Trump railed against James and complained that the "rigged" trial with a judge "run by the Democrats" was keeping him off the presidential campaign trail. "I'd rather be in New Hampshire, South Carolina or Ohio or a lot of other places," Trump said. "But I'm stuck here because I have a corrupt attorney general." Responding to Trump, James said "I will not be bullied" and denounced his decision to attend the opening days of the trial as "a political stunt, a fund-raising stunt." James, who is African American, said Trump's personal attacks on her this week were "offensive, they were baseless, they were void of any facts or of any evidence. "What they were, were comments that unfortunately fomented violence, comments that I would describe as race-baiting, comments unfortunately that appeal to the bottom of our humanity. "This case was brought simply because it was a case where individuals have engaged in a pattern and practice of fraud," James said. "I will not sit idly by and allow anyone to subvert the law."
This is a civil trial, so it won't end with Trump behind bars where he belongs. 😞 But he still faces 91 counts in four indictments which could send him from Mar-a-Lago to the Rod Blagojevich Suite at the Federal Correctional Institution at Englewood, Colorado. 😃
h/t to Jimmy Kimmel for pointing out that Trump hair photo a couple of days ago.
youtube
BTW, ever notice that when Trump tries to look intimidating that he ends up looking like he's constipated? 🚽
