spoilers for rebels?
Part 5 of my Ahsoka series is here! Her SWR look isn't my absolute favorite but it's pretty great and i had fun drawing it!
Image Description: This is a digital fanart of Ahsoka Tano in her Rebels design. She is in her twenties, has longer horns and head tails, etc. She is holding her two white lightsabers with a strong look on her face. The painting is stained glass style with a stylized sun behind her head, like the others in this series.
Link to the previous part (Ahsoka novel design):

An ode to fallen heroes?
Dear writers of German television, in this case of Tatort: it is not a good idea to kill off your long-time characters, neither for the audience nor for the character. Spoilers btw, only warning. Of course the actors and actresses can decide anytime that they're through with the role, but there are other ways to write them out - ones that don't look like outright sadism. You torture the character for years only to let them die anyway at the end? That feels very Game of Thrones-ish. You make a ship canon just to kill off one half of it? Someone around here alrady called you out on the Destiel route. In case of Bönisch... well, it was at least par for the course; that team always consisted of a lot of suffering, but that makes her end just another kick in the face of the audience. That sucks. And since it's not necessary to off them that way, it feels like twisting the knife. I'll keep with the ones in my conscious memory here, meaning I'm definitely not covering all of them all the way back to 1970, but we're already in for five teams in my limited frame of reference.
Tatort Kommissare killed on duty:
Felix Stark († 2014)
Nils Stedefreund († 2019)
Nadeshda Krusenstern († 2020)
Lessing († 2021)
Martina Bönisch († 2022)
Not even getting creative there; they were all unceremoniously shot. Stedefreund and Bönisch at least got to die in the arms of a crying partner to squeeze the last bit of enforced emotion out of it, the rest went out alone. In case of Stark, they let us hang on that ominous "perhaps he'll survive", only to then come around with, "whoops, you'll never find out; he never shows up again and his successors don't comment on this, lol, byyyeee". In case of Lessing, the episode was an uncomfortable tonal dissonance with the rest of the Weimar series - it didn't fit the episodes before at all. Understandably so, with one of our protagonists killed, but it really didn't sit well. Also, we very obviously know that there are other ways.
Tatort characters who got away alive:
Robert Hellmann - quit police service for a nicer job
Carlo Menzinger - hit it rich and quit working altogether
Till Ritter - quit police service for whatever reason
Henni Sieland - quit police service out of bitterness
Daniel Kossik - quit police service for a nicer job
Nika Banovic - no idea; she either quit or got promoted
Mario Kopper - got into illegal shenanigans, was fired, emigrated to Sicily to live the sweet life with his fiancée
Emilia Alvarez - got confirmedly promoted
Inga Lürsen - series ended with the death of her partner
Nora Dalay - quit police service out of bitterness
Kira Dorn - series ended with the death of her partner
And yeah, obviously those are not all cheery happy endings or even satisfying explanations, but they are ways to send the characters off without going for the most obvious, the shock value - which is there for one second and is then outweighed by bitterness. That's just shitting on the character, and on everyone who liked that character for a good while and in some cases had hopes for them developing and getting better.
I may not be in the place to complain about that here because it didn't happen to my faves... yet. I'm kinda afraid. I feel like I read an interview with Wachtveitl somewhere that they won't go for a shocker with the end of their München Tatort but do something simple that fits them, so I lowkey hope they'll end on Franz and Ivo newly retired going fishing or poisoning pidgeons in the park or whatever, getting a call from Kalli and giving him some advice, and then we blend over to Kalli on his new Hauptkommissar desk and he's like, "on it." Something like that.
Kinda anxious for the Wien and Dresden teams; those two have a lot of drama potential. And then there's Stuttgart. *sigh* Admittedly, they sent off both Alvarez and Nika unceremoniously but alive, but also, SWR has proven several times that they don't handle either of the Kommissare well in writing their characters. Sebastian with his colorful bouquet of issues, Thorsten with his "retiring is about my greatest fear" attitude - they might go for the kill there, and I already hate them for the possibility. That'd just be the fucking cherry on top of the whopping shit whipping cream.
Admittedly, I have a certain morbid curiosity as to how Münster will end. Like, they love big drama, but they hate continuous changes, but when the actors are getting out, they'll have to face the change definitely, so might as well go out crashing? Heh, I'm not emotionally invested in there enough to care, but it might either make me roll my eyes till I get a headache or get out the popcorn to watch this part of tumblr blow up and burn.
At least I'm not afraid for the Saarbrücken team yet. They do love their tragedy, but also there's so much potential in the Leo and Adam dynamic they'll wanna utilize, and aiming at a younger audience they won't go for killing off the ladies just for the hell of it; they should know by now that fridging a female character for pure drama is not getting them anywhere. As for the format... no idea. They might keep onto the continuing narrative and maybe round it out before it outlives itself, but even then there's no promise they won't end it on a character death just to fuck with the audience.
tl;dr? Just let them Kommissare retire, or find a new job or race off into the sunset with their queerly beloved (as if). The audience won't be happy about any farewell of a character they love, but they might not hate you if you don't go, "lol, HBO does good writing; we should do that to our characters". You're already not serving us shipping, or sweet moments with no arguing in the team, or positive development, or continuity - we're already expecting nothing, so don't let us down on that, too. Just let us imagine they're free to live a better life. Fucking face it; the continous characters and an audience that loves them are what keeps the format alive, not the idiotic case of the week. The point of Tatort is comfy Sunday evening entertainment with not much aspiration or challenge, not chucking something painful at us.

ishq wala love (echo x gn!reader)
》 summary: reader comforts an insecure echo after the end of tbb episode 4 "cornered" about having mechanical parts as part of his body.
》 word count: ~2.2k
click here to read on AO3
》 warnings: slight sensory overload, mild panic attack (i think it could be classified as relatively vague in regards to the description), insecure echo about his body, a teensy bit of in universe swearing, lots of flufffff and a dash of angst here and there, no use of y/n [if i should add more warnings, please let me know!]
》 spoilers: extremely mild ones from tbb episode 4 "cornered"
》 a/n: hello! this is my first tbb fic, so i really hope i do the show, the characters, and the fandom justice hehe ^_^ over the past few days, i've become obsessed with tbb fics, particularly the echo x reader ones bc my GOODNESS this man is such a soft bean who deserves all the love in the galaxy. as a result, please enjoy this sleep-deprived frenzy of a fic that i wrote at 1 am and let me know your thoughts! :)
》 misc. notes:
• title of the fic is from the hindi song "ishq wala love" from the film student of the year. i've linked the song (in blue) with some pretty good english translations in case you would like to take a listen, but it isn't necessary for the fic–i just thought it fit well!
• i kind of got way too invested in building up the environment at the beginning, so apologies if it seems like a slow start! i just had to indulge in having the other characters there too <3
• please ignore the inaccuracies of the havoc marauder. i don't really know what the ship looks like, especially the living quarters, so i unintentionally ended up using the ghost from swr to guide my writing for that part.
• what the reader says at the end about the word in love in her native language is true. the language i'm referring to here is hindi, and we have several different words for love. in my very humble opinion, i think it’s one of the many characteristics of the language that makes hindi so sweet-sounding and poetic :)
• THANK YOU FOR 100 NOTES OMG AHHH YOU ALL ARE TRULY AMAZING 😭<333 (7/1/2021)

After Tech piloted the Bad Batch away from Pantora and safely entered hyperspace, you all decided to turn in to get some rest–or at least attempt to. With the bounty hunter scare, you and the boys figured it would be best to discuss what to do tomorrow morning, for Omega’s sake.
You tucked Omega in with her doll and offered her a comforting smile. “Don’t worry ‘Meg,” you said softly, running a gentle hand through her cropped blonde hair. “You’ll be safe, I promise. You’re stuck with us for life.”
Omega smiled sleepily at your teasing and held her arms out for a hug, one which you gladly indulge. “Sweet dreams, love,” you murmur as you let go. You shut off the lamp in her makeshift room and closed the curtains as you climbed down the ladder.
You turned around to find Hunter looking at you from his seat in front of the blinking controls. You raised an eyebrow as you plopped down in front of him unceremoniously, the exhaustion of the action-packed day catching up to you.
"You're good with her," he murmured as you both glanced at the light beige divider and you shrugged in response.
"Just looking out for her. Besides, you're not so bad yourself. She mimics your every move," you grinned. Hunter chuckled fondly as he recalled the memory where they were all stuck in the Kaminoan prison cell and Omega copied his every gesture.
The two of you lapsed in a comfortable silence as you mulled over the day's events, the hum of the ship thrumming beneath your feet.
"We'll be okay. It's tiring and difficult and none of us know how to raise a child, but we'll be okay," you said, breaking the quiet with optimism. You placed a hand on Hunter's shoulder and smiled. "Crosshair will be okay too. Have faith."
Hunter sighed but nodded in agreement as he put his hand over yours. "Goodnight," he said as he stood up, stretching his muscles.
"Sleep well."
You sat at the small table for a few more minutes to think before standing up yourself. You quickly checked in on Tech in the cockpit since he was on watch, and he immediately shooed you away, insisting you get some sleep. You had a feeling he only did so to optimize the ship in peace without distractions.
Nevertheless, you obliged and left him alone. Walking to the back of the ship, you completed your rounds. Wrecker was snoring loudly and you stifled a laugh. At least he was sleeping well–it was all you could ask for really. But frankly, you had no idea how Crosshair was ever able to sleep through it. Thinking about him and seeing his empty bunk made your heart pang in loss, but you were as determined as the rest of them to somehow bring him back. You had to.
You opened the door to Hunter and Tech’s shared room to find Hunter already sleeping soundly and you quickly left. With his enhanced senses, he was already a light sleeper, and compounded with his responsibilities as a leader, he rarely got any rest. You worried for him.
Last stop was your and Echo's room. You stepped in to find the light still on. Echo was sitting on the floor in front of your bunk, staring at the ground.
"Hey there handsome," you joked lightly in an attempt to get his attention and mask your unease. Echo usually only came near your bunk when something was wrong and after everything that happened today, it was safe to say you were concerned.
Echo didn't respond. Did he hear me? You make your way over to your lover and sit down in front of him. You place your hands on top of his.
"Echo, honey?" You said softly and finally finally he looked up at you. Your heart dropped into your stomach.
"Oh, darling," you breathed and you moved to his side to envelop him into a hug, his head resting comfortably in the crook of your neck. You didn’t say anything more–you saw the deep pain swirling in his eyes, the grief, the loss. The anger. You let Echo take the lead; you knew how difficult it was to wrangle raging thoughts and muster them into words.
You didn’t know how much time passed of you two sitting on the floor, breathing each other in before Echo spoke.
“Today… when we went on the supply run, I was dressed as a droid.”
You bit your lip, knowing exactly where this was going. But you didn’t interrupt, letting him continue. Your thumb rubbed absentmindedly on his arm as you listened.
“That vendor we were talking to wouldn't take what we had. And then he saw me,” Echo took a deep breath. You stayed quiet, holding his hand in a manner that you hoped soothed his anxieties at least a little bit.
“Hunter sold me as a droid to him. I-I know he doesn’t see me as a droid. I know that. But–” Echo’s voice cracked. He cleared his throat of the emotion building up. Echo didn’t know how to express what he wanted to say. He didn’t even want to speak it aloud–that would make it feel too real. And Echo severely doubted he could handle the heartbreak. Can I do this?
“Cyar’ika,” he murmured and you hummed in response. Echo pulled away from you, his hand still in yours. Now or never. “I need you to be completely, absolutely, 100% honest with me,” he whispered. Echo steeled his expression, doing his best to hide how terrified he truly was.
You nodded because of course you would be. When were you not?
But the way Echo gazed at you threw you off. Something was wrong, very wrong. You were almost scared of what he would say next, but you made a gesture for him to say what was on his mind. Clearly, this was important.
“Do you really want to be with me when I’m just–” Echo struggled with the last few words and you strained to pick them up with how they caught in his throat. “–a pathetic, disgusting, hybrid machine?” It’s out, I said it. I said it. Echo felt like he couldn’t breathe, the pressure on his chest too much, too much. He stared down at the floor, face flooded with shame.
You stared at him in blatant disbelief, eyebrows furrowed and mouth open from a shocked laugh. No no no Echo. You’re nothing of the sort. You didn’t move. Echo’s breath hitched as he looked back up at you, broken and open and raw.
“Don’t lie, please don’t lie to me. I know there's no way you could ever love me when I… when I look like this,” Echo whispered, but he may as well have shouted with the way the blood was rushing through your ears.
And then something in you snapped.
You removed your hands from his and placed them on his cheeks, pulling him in until your foreheads were touching. “Echo, you need to listen to me,” you instructed and heaved a breath as you tried to sort your own rushing thoughts into articulated words. But the effort was futile as your careful speech turned into a haphazard and passionate stream of consciousness.
His eyes glistened with unshed tears and your heart broke into pieces. Echo gave you all of his attention. What are you going to say? He didn’t want you to agree, but he would understand if you did. Echo felt disgusted with himself. The walls were closing in on him. Breathing was getting harder.
“You are the best damn thing that has ever happened to me. I don’t give one flying banthashit about any of your mechanical parts. If anyone ever says anything about them, they’re di’kuts and you can send them my way because I will not hesitate to punch some sense into them,” you spat with pure determination, not even noticing the Mando’a slip. After being surrounded by clones for so long, you absorbed bits and pieces of the language. You didn’t even register how Echo picked up on the word, much too focused on getting your point across. You were a person on a mission and nothing would stand in your way.
The knot in Echo’s stomach was loosening a bit, the storm in his mind beginning to break. The walls were a bit farther from him. He wasn’t drowning in his own presence anymore.
“Because you know what? You’re still my Echo. You’re a man, my dear. Not a machine. You never were, and never will be. These parts?” you gestured to his scomp link, his legs, the cybernetic implant in his head. “They mean nothing. Absolutely nothing. Don’t focus on them.”
You smiled sadly as you rubbed your thumbs gently on his cheeks. “I fell in love with you, Echo, not your body. I love the way you make me laugh, the way you comfort me, the way you cry with me. As much as I kriffing hate that you have been through so much pain because of those damned Separatists, I’m grateful for the fact that I’m in love with a man who would do anything for his family, for his brothers.”
A tear slipped down your cheek as you remembered Fives coming back home from the Citadel but no Echo in sight. You would never admit it to anyone, but you swore a piece of you had died that day.
Echo felt like he was going to cry. The pressure that had been building up in his chest was releasing. He could breathe again, slowly, slowly. His only focus was you, was your words. The artificial lights didn’t seem to be as glaring now. They were softer, calmer.
“Echo, my love, even through it all, you not only survived, but you came out on top, victorious,” you paused, briefly overcome with how much love and gratitude you had for this wonderful man. “You came back to me, Echo, and you’re as handsome as ever. I have never stopped loving you, and never will. Don’t you ever forget that darling.”
Echo drew in a shaky breath. The harsh cold of the floor grates was biting into his skin, but he didn’t care. It grounded him as much as your warm touch on his face. He could breathe again. My cyar’ika.
Your fiery and passionate emotional speech came to an end as you stared into your lover’s eyes. There was so much more you could say, but you feared words would not be able to convey it all. You hoped your eyes would be enough to soothe his pained and tired soul.
Silent tears trailed down Echo’s face and you gently brushed them away as you pulled him into a tight hug. It was all you could do to not cry yourself. Echo was always so strong–you admired him for it.
“Thank you,” he whispered, voice thick with appreciation and love. You didn’t say anything. There was no need to. The charged air between you both was enough. The two of you sat in a comfortable silence on the floor of the Havoc Marauder, deep in your own thoughts.
“Ishq wala love,” you muttered fondly after some time, still caught up in your own mind.
“Hm?” Echo questioned, curious as to what you said. The soft sound gently pulled you out of the clouds and back to the man in your arms as you attempted to explain.
“There’s a phrase in my native language, ishq wala love. You see, in Basic, there’s just one word for love, which is love. But back home, we have several different words for love, each with their own subtle, but distinct meaning,” you blew out a breath as you tried to figure out what to say. Echo was hanging on to your every word.
“There’s… there isn’t really a direct translation, but the best I can come up with is that the love that we have, ishq, is much deeper than just romantic love. It’s deep and strong and pure and unyielding. It–it reminded me of us,” you admitted, a bit sheepish. Your fingers dance along Echo’s scomp link, nervous.
Echo took a moment to process your explanation before smiling. You felt your heart stitch itself back together again after seeing that beautiful smile. You would do anything to keep it on his lovely face.
“Ishq wala love,” he echoed, his pronunciation a bit off. You giggled in response. “Close enough,” you teased and Echo simply beamed. You leaned in and planted a chaste kiss on his soft lips, rubbing his metal arm gently.
Echo stood up then, offering a hand to you to help you up. You took it and he led you over to the bunk you shared together. You both quickly climbed in, relaxing in the warmth of the well worn blankets and the other’s presence.
Your head was near his chest and you could hear the soothing dull sound of his steady heartbeat. Your arm curled over his waist protectively and your head rested comfortably on his flesh arm. Echo shut off the light and you were ensconced in black velvety darkness.
“Goodnight, cyar’ika.”
“Sweet dreams, Echo. I’ll be here, waiting for you.”
please consider reblogging! it really helps me and is super encouraging ^_^

Star wars rebels liveblogging: the last season :( start
Finnally was able to track down a site had a working video for part 1 of the season premiere
The scene with Sabine raising the darksaber and leading the charge with the others emerging from the trenches was freaking awesome!
Gar Saxon has a brother who has just as bad haircut as him. Bad hair decisions run in the family.
Chopper likes to play it safe and stays behind during the battle. We get to see Bo-Katan again. Trying to remember if she had that scar in clone wars or if that happened later.
Kanan and Hera do some flirting and dancing around the obvious subtext. Just get together already! We have been waiting 4 seasons for this....
Chopper also don’t have no time for this romantic shit and interupts them
I like how they say terminated instead of executed. Does like Disney XD have a ban on using the word or something?
Sabine is not to be killed apparently. I assume they want to have her in a situation like Galen Erso. I imagine if they  had ever met they could relate to each other.
I assume Sabine’s father recognized Sabine was nearby by the paint bomb. I like his calm in the face of immenient death and his art discussion with Sabine. I like that she gets the warriorness from her mom and the artistness from her dad and that in the couple it is her dad who is the non-warrior of the two. Also that Ursa shares her daughter’s love of explosives.
Jesus fuck the lava cracks in the armor looks terrifying, they essentially incinerated people. Thrawn appreciates the weapon and the subordinate dude to Gar Saxon v2 brings up the obvious and sensible point about the empire using the weapon against them, but Saxon is high on his power fantasy.
Erza brings up the question I was wondering about just changing the armor material and we learn about more Mandelorian traditions.Wow Sabine’s armor is that old? That is a pretty neat heritage thing keeping armor around for literal centuries. Its held up pretty good for being made of a materiel that would have been composed  centuries ago.
Ursa tries to continue fighting despite having one arm injured, I love her.
Satine would REALLY not appreciate being the namesake of such a terrible weapon. Looks like someone didn’t think much of her when she was younger or just REALLY wanted an ironic name.
Jesus Saxon, you talk about Palpatine like he is your person bud or something. Just because you ALSO like electrocuting people does not make you bossom buddies or anything. Also dude, you should have had some sort of insurance set up to make sure that Sabine would not sabatoge things once you just let her have access to the weapon. I mean, my dude that was a stupid move. Sabine teeters over the dark but is convinced away from it. Also she seemed to have forgotten that Erza likes wearing repurposed stormtrooper helmets though it does not seem to have hurt him much.
Premiere ends with a cool sword waving and pledge. Liked this episode/episodes quite a bit.

What's the best place to look for sw Inquisitor content? You seem to be something of a specialist on the subject. I'm not that into the SW extended universe but I've seen them in Rebels and JFO and they seem like such an interesting concept for what screen time they get so I'm wondering where to go next
Hi anon!
I’m flattered to know I’m an inquisitor content specialist haha, but while I may talk the inquisitor content up, there isn’t a *ton* of material out there. There’s been a lot more in the last few years so I’ll try to list it all and drop some recs for fan content as well!
Assuming you’ve already seen swr and played JFO, here’s the rest of the content that I know of. The first one I’ll recommend is where almost all of the non-swr and jfo content springs from, then I’ll list other sources by which individual inquisitors they focus on (this turned out to be a bit of a long post, oops):
Darth Vader (2017): while this is a Vader-focused comic, you get quite a bit of inquisitor lore out of it, and also multiple characters you won’t find anywhere else/many other places. Highly recommend for how it builds up the Grand Inquisitor, Ninth Sister, and Sixth Brother in particular. I recommend reading all of it, but the inquisitor-focused issues are almost all issues 6-20 minus issues 10 and 18. The writing has some flaws but overall one of my favorite comics in terms of story and art.
Here are the rest:
There’s an Inquisitor in the semi-canon Star Wars Visions episode T0-B1!
The Ahsoka Novel: This is obviously mostly about Ahsoka, but Sixth Brother gets some POV chapters as well. I’d say his character is more of an acquired taste but after taking the novel and Vader (2017) in context together, I find that he actually has some of the most content, surprisingly.
The Servants of the Empire series has some Grand Inquisitor lore with a focus on Zare Leonis and (the ever-elusive) Project Harvester.
Jedi Fallen Order: Dark Temple: A five-issue comic focusing mostly on Cere gives you some good Second Sister content, presented pre-Trilla reveal. It gives you more of her cool and competent inquisitor vibe that way. Also, bonus purge troopers!
[spoilers for Vader 2017 in the summary] Mace Windu: Jedi of the Republic: A five-issue comic focusing on a strike team of four Jedi in the beginning the clone war, raises questions of what the republic is coming to, and also gives you some of the Tenth Brother’s backstory.
[spoilers for Marvel’s Star Wars (2020) in the summary] Star Wars (2020), issue 6: Yes, the comic takes place post-esb. Yes, the Grand Inquisitor is there. This one has the most payoff after reading Vader (2017) and watching swr s1.
The Grand Inquisitor has appeared in the Rebels manga adaptation!
Some comics featuring the Seventh Sister and Fifth Brother in the Star Wars Rebels Magazine are in German so if you read the language you’re in luck, but some have been translated into English by fans so you can find them in their tumblr tags.
You get a *possible* inquisitor’s appearance in Return to Vader’s Castle 4 and 5: she’s designated the Fourth Sister—or, it might be her armor. Who knows?
The Grand Inquisitor gets a semi-canon appearance in Star Wars: Dark Legends
I don’t know any guidebooks besides this one but most of the inquisitors’ lightsabers feature in The Lightsaber Collection, which I’d also recommend for being a coffeetable book with gorgeous art
I also have a friend’s word that Star Wars: Secrets of the Sith also contains some fun inquisitor lore!
I’m leaving out most of the canon guidebooks that I don’t know, as well as a few children’s novels from swr s1 which focus on the Grand Inquisitor. I realize, that with the exemption of the first five entries of “the rest”, you don’t really get a ton of canon which focuses on the inquisitors, so I’m going to recommend a few fanfics and extra sources. Most of the fanfics, being about the inquisitors, have some triggering elements going in, so assume for most of these fics that you’d be wise to mind the tags going in:
On the Edge of the Devil’s Backbone by bedlamsbard: This is a loooong fic which has more of a focus on the Ghost Crew in an imperial au (including kanan-as-inquisitor in some portions), but it does some excellent fleshing out of the inquisitors as a whole and the inquisitorius. Please note that this fanfic was written based off of what we knew about the inquisitors primarily from the years 2014-2016, which was a different landscape than current canon, making some details different. It’s still cool as fuck. The fanfic has the added bonus of twi’lek societal lore too and a lot of really good ghost crew development!
Children of the Force by HLine: Another long fic, this features the story of the Ghost Crew rescuing Ezra from being an inquisitor initiate, as well as the very heavy emotional baggage that comes with it. Set in an au where fewer Jedi died in Order 66 and Anakin didn’t turn to the dark side. This fic focuses relatively prominently on some of the canon inquisitors.
Defy by KitePiper: This fic is a two-chapter about Inquisitor Ezra and Eighth Brother finding Cal. You can only read this fic if you have an Ao3 acc, and I have a bit of a bias since it features Eighth, but it’s a good read.
If This is What Passes for Living by nosferaju: A fic about pre-inquisitor Grand Inquisitor. He’s. Not having a good time.
Reforging and Pity (two separate fics) by mylordshecactus: A fic about inquisitor initiate Barriss Offee. She’s. Not having a good time either.
Where I Go, Death Will Follow by Anonymous: The Palpatine + Vader + Grand Inquisitor bonding fic you never knew you needed.
cruelty is all that we know of and how it was to feel alive (two separate fics) by ascxndent: Seventh Sister and Fifth Brother have some sort of attachment and feelings that, at times, could pass for love. They are not going about it smartly, at all.
Blackbird by TheUnkindledQueen: Trilla gets laid to rest, and everyone needs a hug about it.
the scars that we’re made of by inquisitor_tohru: Ninth Sister almost dies and both she and Second Sister get dangerously emotional about it.
Also, I write fanfic too at vividsunsets on Ao3! I don’t do so often, but I’ll plug my own few vignettes about three different ways Eighth Brother can die (Variations on a Death). I also draw fanart for them, and have relatively consistently since 2016 (with varying quality).
Also, if you’re looking for more canon content, rebels recon gets you some tidbits about the swr inquisitors, as well as their wiki entries. Charles Soule has remained tight-lipped on anything about the unidentified male and female inquisitors from Vader (2017) so we’re sort of SoL for those two.

Angstpril 2021: Day 25 - The Light Died In Their Eyes
I Open up My Arms and Fall
read on ao3 409 words rebels, kanera, major character death, season/series 04, swr spoilers
The heat was indescribable. It was more than just fuel and fire, it was a wall, a force, and Kanan was the only thing able to hold it back. In that moment, watching him, Hera truly understood the Jedi. They were living idols of the very Force itself, and there he was, doing its work. The Force worked through him as he held back the explosion of the fuel depot, as he… as he held Hera away from him.
Kanan…
No.
There was nothing but pure strength and resolve in him, and somehow, Hera wanted to hold onto it. But the heat held her back. He held her back.
In that moment it didn’t matter that it was to protect her. Why should he protect her? This was her fault! He didn’t want to start a rebellion, or be part of another war. She should’ve listened to him. And here he was, fighting for her.
Kanan…
Hera should’ve been the one fighting for him. She should’ve… She should’ve done something! Or—or never have left, or done something different, or just held onto him tighter.
Look at me.
But he couldn’t see. He couldn’t see her.
Of course he couldn’t see. He was blind. He didn’t know. How could he possibly know what was happening? How she was bursting and tearing apart inside, and the few seconds she knew they had were the only things holding her together?
He was holding her together. Kanan Jarrus. Caleb Dume. Even as he tore her apart, as the Empire tore her apart, as the very will of the Force— No. Not the Force. Her. This was her. Fault.
All of it.
Her capture. Her torture. Her drugging. Not saying those three precious words till just moments before. And not hearing them from him…
The power grew, and grew. Kanan couldn’t possibly contain the explosion any longer. Everything would tear and burst, and be obliterated.
And then… he turned to her, and she saw his eyes—his beautiful, beautiful eyes—change. Heal.
Kanan saw her, and Hera saw him.
I love you.
He knew. She saw that he knew, and he knew of what lay inside her, what she would eventually add to her family’s kalikori—their family’s kalikori.
In Kanan’s final moments, the light never left his eyes; it strengthened, brightening with fierce love and kindness and bravery. The light lived in his eyes, lived in him… and it died in Hera.

Also I ADORED your tags about Andor on that post about Star Wars TV shows. They were HILARIOUS. And I FEEL ya about loving SWR and Rogue One MOST OF ALL Star Wars media. What are your favorite Rebels episodes and characters?
AAAA THANKS!!! Cassian is one of my most beloved characters tbh (and most quoted, bc i use "i had every opportunity to, but did i" almost daily lol)
see, i actually got into SW just after Rogue One came out, and i'd known all the spoilers and been a secondhand fan (via @fortes-fortuna-iogurtum and @audreythevaliant; remind me at some point to tell you the Legacy of Mandalore story sometime, i think Gurt still feels kinda bad but it's actually THEE funniest thing i've ever done in my life i SWEAR) for like... a year?? before i got a chance to actually watch any of it; the first SW thing i ever saw was the Rebels S3 finale when i was on vacation with my grandparents lol. so yeah not only do i think Rebels and R1 are the best from a writer's viewpoint, i also have a really deep attachment to them because they're p much the reason i got into the fandom. so. yeah.
also tbh i have not watched any Rebels in FAR too long, but off the top of my head i think my favorite episodes are... the one in i think S2 where Sabine, Ezra, Zeb, and Chopper go to that base and get cornered by the Seventh Sister??? i don't recall the episode title but i definitely like that one a lot, i have a deep fascination with the dynamic between Ezra and Sabine so any episode that has focus on that is very !!! to me. but ALSO i do have to say that Family Reunion and Farewell may be my overall favorite episode just because it's SO GOOD, like i can't really put it into words why i love the finale(TM) so much but i DO.
including the Epilogue because (excuse me while i go real meta here for a hot sec) remember in.. i think Heroes of Mandalore? Sabine tells Ezra about how Mandalore is so damaged that nothing will ever grow there again and that pretty much there's nothing she or anyone can do about that?? and then when they go back to Lothal the Empire has scorched and ruined it and the grass is all gone BUT THE THING IS Sabine sticks around post-FRaF and we have that shot in the Epilogue (which mirrors a shot in the pilot episode!!!) of her standing on Ezra's tower and looking out over the healthy, grassy planet!!!! Sabine got to do for Ezra's planet what she couldn't for her own!!!!! and that's a big part of why i like the Epilogue so much
(also the mural, fdshsdkhg the mural i swear-)
also Twilight of the Apprentice is fantastic, also- yeah i could go on forever listing all the episodes i love bc i love them ALL Rebels is just such a good show dsjhgdssdjhkfsdjghs

I forgot I did this a while back but it’s my ranking of all the Touhou characters (except for Miyoi. And some other character who the template maker forgot to include that I have also now forgotten). Link to template here.
Quick Notes
All the characters from Kasen up to Futo are characters I feel are complete packages (well-realized, interestingly written, subjectively appealing to me etc.
Every character after Futo, starting with Yoshika, in the “I Like” category is a character I like but for more superficial reasons. It’s like, I could explain why Futo is such a fascinating character, but with Yoshika and onward, my explanation is “I like thing” e.g. I like Jiang-shi and that’s it.
Shoutouts to Nitori. I personally don’t like her, but I recognize that she’s a fleshed out character who adds a lot to the setting.
If it seems like the “Don’t Like category” is just a collection of popular characters in Touhou, that’s because... it is.
The only character that’s there not because of popularity is probably Wriggle. They’re just... there. I get that they’re meant to be a generic youkai, but you can be a generic youkai without being boring (Sekibanki is a good example of this).
I think I was a bit too harsh on Cirno. Cirno is over-popular, but given that ZUN continues to give her appearances, it’s unfair to lump her in with characters like Momiji and Daiyousei.
Haven’t read CoLA, Fairies or the rest of the Bougestushou, haven’t gotten into the Sealing Club CD’s and haven’t played AoCF or Double Spoiler, which is why I have the “no opinion section”
I’ve actually played and completed SWR and IaMP but I legit only remember how hard those games were, and not what actually happened in them, or what Suika, Tenshia and Iku are like in canon. I should probably replay SWR and IaMP...
Ruukoto, Mimi-chan, SinGyoku and YuugenMagan are there because they don’t fell like “real characters”
Canon Satono and Mai sound like they’re Okina’s props / puppets and not individual characters
Miyoi would probably be in this category

For SWR Asks: 8, 9, 14, 16, 25: did you think Ezra/Sabine were shippy or more like siblings?
8: Favorite Kanan moment?
For laughs, it’s the one where he introduces all of the Ghost Crew to Cham Syndulla as the wrong name because he’s so anxious to impress Hera’s Dad.
For big character development moments, it’s a tossup between the bit where the Bendu teaches him to “see” in early season 3 (this bit)  and the scene where he fights the Temple Guards (here), and when he realizes he’s done all he can for Ezra, one of them KNIGHTS HIM. I burst into tears the first time I saw it and when I watched that scene again just now I got all choked up again.  I’ve read the comic now, so I understand more WHY he always felt himself half-trained, not good enough, and so the fact that he gets that moment... Cue the waterworks on my end.
9: Favorite Hera moment?
That is a trick question because every Hera moment is a favorite moment.
One really great one that I can think of right now, though, Hera talking about why she loves flying and how much it means to her in “Wings of the Master.” Just watched that one again too and... just wow. I love her so much.
14: Favorite original trilogy cameo?
As much as I love Leia and Lando, the one that made me sit up and go “ooooh interesting” was when Tarkin showed up.  There’s this moment I can only vaguely remember where some people under his command are freaking out like “OMG JEDI THEY ARE LEGEND WHAT DO WE DO” or something along those lines, and Tarkin is like, “I am OLD AS DIRT and remember them, everyone calm down,” and it made me laugh. (I wish I could find this clip but don’t remember what episode it’s in or what’s going on around it.)
16: Part that made me cry the most?
I was an absolute mess when we watched Jedi Night. Every once in a while I see a picture of Kanan with his arms outstretched backlit by the fire and I have to look away to maintain composure. So that.
A runner up would be the bit where Kallus is just... watching Thrawn destroy the Rebels and looks so helpless and defeated and... that hit me hard.
25: did you think Ezra/Sabine were shippy or more like siblings?
I think that Ezra had a one-sided crush on Sabine that, when it wasn’t reciprocated, developed into a strong sibling-like bond.  I watched this show in isolation from the fandom to avoid spoilers, and the second I saw all of the SABINE IS SO QUEER YOU GUYS posts, I was like, “Yes good. Headcanon accepted.”

My Top Ten* Touhou Tracks
*...as of September 2019 because I love so many and I’m sure my favourites could change not just in order but be completely replaced by ten different tranks within a month.
Making this list felt impossible at times because I picked out 39(!) tracks that I thought were ‘top ten’ worthy, and obviously reducing that list to just ten was really hard and I’m pretty sure I just gave up at some point and tried going with what my gut told me more often than not.
That sounds like I didn’t put as much thought into this list as I could have, but I would like to spin this as a testament to how good so much Touhou music is and how much it means- Okay that’s a bad excuse.
Behind-the-scenes-edit: I changed this to Top 11 at the last second because I was writing my number one and realised I forgot a song I liked more than number 10!
10 11. Concealed Four Seasons (Okina’s first theme from HSiFS)
I just really love this one. It’s one of the ‘subtly powerful’ kind of boss themes featuring a riff that I adore. That little snippet of Necrofantasia is also nice for lore and my ears.
10. The Clown of the Star-Spangled Banner (Clownpiece’s theme from LoLK)
I think this track is literally the perfect amount of chaotic, cheerful and dangerous for a super powerful fairy dressed like a clown. On top of that, it still manages to have those elements so many of the LoLK tracks have that really make me feel like I’m in space.
9. Night Sakura of Dead Spirits (TD Stage 1)
My favourite of all Stage 1 themes. I’m at complete peace while listening but it’s not too peaceful that I feel like falling asleep.
8. Flawless as Clothing of the Celestials (Pre-Battle theme from SWR)
This is probably my favourite rendition of that classic Broken Moon motif. It  doesn’t represent Touhou as a whole as much as any of the others, and is obviously more meant for Heaven and Tenshi specifically, but it’s still by far the prettiest to me.
7. Walking the Streets of a Former Hell (SA Stage 3)
It’s so happy and festive! The first time I played SA, I didn’t know anything about anywhere, but I could tell right away from this track and the bright lights of the background that I was flying through a cheerful party. ...which I also lost a lot of lives in.
6. Heian Alien (Nue’s theme from UFO)
My favourite Extra Boss theme. It sounds exactly like what I’d expect from the title: Otherworldly, mischievous, but also a really addictive beat. I actually get chills near the end of the loop where the track goes low and then the trumpets blare out.
5. Cinderella Cage ~ Kagome-Kagome (IN Stage 5)
It’s beautiful and manages to sound both epic and child-like at the same time. It really is the perfect theme to a bunch of rabbits.
4.  Lullaby of Deserted Hell (SA Stage 5)
I got really emotional while listening to this. I mean, that applies to 70% of touhou tracks, but this one was one of the... 50% that did it the very first time. It’s so good and makes me want to fall asleep among a bunch of sad skeletons!
3. Wind God Girl (Aya’s theme from PoFV)
Super bias time. This was the very first piece of Touhou music I ever listened to. I heard it used in a youtube gaming video, looked it up myself, discovered it rocks, found more tracks in the sidebar, and it all snowballed from there...
2. Desire Drive (TD Stage 4)
Super bias time isn’t over yet. I’ve basically listened to this track and multiple remixes I’d say.... several hundreds of times in the last few years? I’m no longer capable of properly weighing it against other tracks or even articulate why I love it other than ‘It instills happiness into my brain through the most direct of means’.
1. The Shining Needle Castle Sinking in the Air (DDC Stage 5)
Wow there are a lot of Stage 5s on this list. I feel like this track more than either of Shinmyomaru’s themes from Stage 6 actually best represent the entirety of her character and the conflicts of Double Dealing Character as a whole. Also it’s sooo beautiful it soothes yet ignites my spirit every time.
Honourable mentions:
Favourite title theme is a tie between Newshound (Double Spoiler) and Mysterious Purification Rod (Double Dealing Character).
Favourite Stage 1 boss theme is A Midsummer's Fairy Dream (Eternity Larva's theme) and I mention it here because it was the only Stage 1 boss theme among the 39 tracks I picked.
Favourite credits theme is Oriental Evening Sky (Scarlet Weather Rhapsody).
-
This all started because @pyramomo basically dared me to but I’m glad for it.

Alphabet Squadron and Hera Syndulla
This will be my thoughts on the new book by Alexander Freed. If this is something you would rather not know or something you’d like to read yourself, then avoid the “keep reading” button and keep on scrolling.
POTENTIAL SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT!
You have been warned.
Okay, so first, my thoughts on the book…
Overall, I think it was okay. There’s a lot of characters to learn about, a lot of backstories to sift through, and that’s okay. This is just the first out of three books and it still has plenty of military drama and action scenes to be entertaining.
The audiobook was well done and I detected a few new pieces of music that I hadn’t heard before, so as an avid SW audiobook listener, that was nice. :)
Now… as for the reason I even read/listened to this book in the first place. They said Hera Syndulla, was going to be in the story. And she was!
She first appeared in chapter 8 (I think) and then pops in and out periodically for the rest of the book. It is not just a cameo or a name drop. She is actually in the book, just not the main focus OF the book.
My impression of Hera’s character… well… she’s not as intense as she was in the Doctor Aphra comic, but she’s missing a bit of her more gentle patience on the surface like her TV counterpart. Don’t get me wrong, it peeks in every now and again, but mostly I just get the impression that she is tired and a little lonely.
It’s not a fanfiction, so the story isn’t going to cater to some of the more tropey feels we’ve come to expect from Hera in this time and place.
There were brief mentions of the Ghost crew, none by name— which, before we start to panic, isn’t necessarily a red flag because remember, this is not Hera’s story, and though it could have come up casually in at least two conversations or her own soliloquies, the trilogy isn’t over yet. There is plenty more time for a bit of Rebels mentions.
I have to say my biggest disappointments in the book are only Rebels related because I am 100% biased that way.
We did not get a single mention of Chopper or Jacen, and we have no idea where they are or what they are doing during this time. Are they on the ship? Are they somewhere else? We don’t know!?
I’m not sure if it is a part of the author’s plan or just something involved with the knowledge he had of the characters at the time of writing this story, or perhaps the permissions he was allowed in order to use them in the first place.
Jacen has been a mystery to us since first being introduced in the SWR finale and everyone from Filoni to Lego, comics, and more are making it nearly impossible for us to learn anything about the kid. By my math though, he would be at least 5 by now, so that means any number of possibilities:
He could be doing his own thing around the ship while Chopper babysits?
He could be with people Hera trusts to take care of him somewhere safer?
He could be in Luke’s Jedi school for all we know!?
Personally, I hope he’s running around in the background somewhere because imagining Hera ALL ALONE on this huge ship will most definitely break my heart!
But back to the book.
There are some Rogue One references, a few mentions here and there that we, as fans, can connect the dots and assume we know who is being talked about, etc. etc. So that is all nice fan-service there.
I will say, if you are going into this book SOLELY for the SWR content…. well…. you’re probably not going to get anything you’re longing for. At least not in this first book. Ultimately Hera IS in it and we do get to see a bit of what she’s up to after the Battle of Endor, but if you want her to even mention a character from Rebels by name, least of all talk about them more than just to say she misses them or remembers a bit about them in context to these new pilots, well——
Tumblr media
I’d say to ultimately give the book a chance, but don’t get your hopes up. It was easy for me to have more to say with the Aftermath Trilogy because I stumbled into it AFTER all 3 books were released. I am definitely going to get all 3 of these books for Hera’s sake, and maybe even for the pilots—if I come to love them as much as say other book characters such as Eli Vanto or the Wexley’s and Nora’s team.
Wyl Lark is a precious boy, Nath is a handsome scoundrel, Chass is full of character, and Kairos is super mysterious. If Quell loosens up a bit more, Hera would be right…she’d probably like everything a lot better! They are an interesting bunch to say the least, so I think the next books will have some real potential.
Honestly just give me a little more SWR mentions, tell me where Jacen is, let Chopper still be with Hera, and I will probably give Alexander Freed my soul.
Feel free to agree or disagree, discuss or share your thoughts as well. Try to avoid spoilers since the book just came out yesterday, but you’re free to talk about it with me if you have the urge.
Thank you for reading! ^u^

Star Wars Rebels Spoilers
Right now there are some alleged Star Wars Rebels spoilers circulating from Reddit.com. If you post anything that might spoil the series finale, please tag it as "swr spoilers" or don't post it here at all until everyone has had a chance to watch the final episodes. Also, please keep in mind that the spoilers may be fake. I have read them, and I will not speak of what I have read because I don't want to spoil anyone and because I don't know for sure if what I read is true. Let's just say we have a lot to look forward to in the finale tomorrow if the spoilers are true. Anyway, I love Star Wars Rebels fandom. Dave Filoni is a master storyteller and I have confidence that he will not let us down. Season 4 has been absolutely incredible so far, and my hopes are high that this series will have an epic and satisfying conclusion. The Force will be with us...always! Love and peace to all. ❤️✌
